Review Han Palace - Perth

Sin Fong Chan
Han Palace in Perth Visited on 28/5/2022 The restaurant has an impressive entrance. The 2 stone Lions guarding on the right check the visitors out before entering. Upon entry, there is a Golden Dragon Throne. However, that's it for the impressive interior deco. It was not just a simple dinner; it was a banquet fit for a hungry emperor. It would nice if the waiting staff be a bit friendly.

The best Chinese food in Perth! The take away menu is lovely. The butter king prawns were heaven and the portion size was so generous. Honey king prawns are amazing too. The service is always warm and friendly. I will always return to Hans Palace for my Chinese food. Thanks you Hans palace. ❤️

Service is first class and cuisine is well presented. This restaurant is one not to be missed. The high standard they have set should not be taken lightly!

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Perth, the standard menu items are perfect and the more pricey items (e.g. Singaporean Chilli Crab) are amazing. Would recommend for a large family outing, special occasion, or with friends. They have large individual rooms and the restaurant is very well appointed with attention to details, e.g. the high quality cutlery. A small note is the large family groups can get overly noisy with young children running amok between tables, but I wouldn't blame the restaurant for that choice, just parents but it may impact your dining instruments with screaming children. Overall great place, can get relatively expensive depending on the more exotic options selected.

Food is excellent and the service first class. Would definately recommend to anyone who wants a very nice night out with friends!

Ordered take away fried rice. Got white rice with the meat and seafood mixed in & no shallots or greens. Why is steamed rice sold as fried? Disappointed as I have eaten in house and meal was great. Now reluctant to return :-) As a positive the staff are exemplary.

Ordered a food delivery, food was fresh and tasted fantastic. Recommend the black pepper fillet steak. Ample portion sizes, would definitely recommend.

I've eaten here on a few occasions, excellent friendly service, lovely interior and ambience, excellent range of dishes, and of course very tasty delicious Chinese cuisine. Take away also available too.

Sang Chow Bow is the best in Australia. Omg. I will be back next week. Great atmosphere too.

It was a dinner treated by a friend, otherwise I would not bother to go, overpriced and too much MSG ( sure it is very common among the Chinese restaurants). Food is just average and plain, and no worthy

Just excellent! Great Service.. Traditional Chinese Food .. so flavoursome and presented well .. great place for a special occasion or just a good feed .. well priced . 👍

Chinese Emperor decor and tableware. Amazing service. Highly recommended and best of the best dish " Hong Kong bay Lobster ". Fried rice was great. <br/>Entrées cold dishes was good. Soup was good in a little tea pot. The rest was average, too much strach.
Foodie In Paradise
Been here a couple of time and so far food been quite tasty but with slightly too much MSG. Service always been friendly but can be a bit slow.

The Taichin Chicken, Hot & Sour Soup, Hongkong Bay Prawns are pretty amazing. The Restaurant Manager is very friendly and nothing is ever too difficult even during busy hours. Very glad to have this restaurant in the neighbourhood.

Traditional Chinese. Unfortunately no good if you're gluten free and full of MSG. Otherwise the restaurant has an authentic fit out and the staff are friendly. They tried their best to accommodate me.

This is one of the longest established Chinese restaurants in Perth. Good food and good decor for entertaining. The San Chow Pow is big and nice. The lady boss is very friendly and will try hard to please.

Hans is always good. So cheap too. Ive been coming here for years and never disappointed. The basil beef is yummy but honestly everything is. Big thumbs up

Never ever going there again. <br/><br/>Bought Groupon voucher stating banquet for 2 with 2 mains. The place look flashy but the food was just so so. The food were over greasy, 2 people has to share one person portion of fry rice and vegetables. Ordered garlic butter King prawns , and receive just 4 pieces of prawns in the dish. <br/><br/>Vegetable stir fry comes up with caterpillar in the dish. What a low quality restaurant.

I was really in the mood for Asian and got a takeaway order from Han Palace. I was happy they provided the crunchy deep fried pork in a separate bag whilst the sweet and sour was in a separate container with a bag to guard against spillage. Very thoughtful. The sweet and sour pork was really delicious and hit the spot. I also enjoyed the fried rice which was tasty and very solid. The half golden duck was also delicious, served with a plum sauce for extra flavour. Nice crunchy skin and succulent flesh. They also gave me a bag of prawn crackers which was a welcome surprise. I was really happy with the food and the staff are also professional and have a nice manner.

Lovely Chinese restaurant! Food was delicious and service was prompt. Staff stayed back 45 minutes past closing time while we finished our bottle of wine (they were byo, even though not listed as such).

Yummy food :-) good service!

Great food and excellent service!!

A review by Food Fer-natic: Nah mate, overpriced Chinese.<br/><br/>My recent visit to Han Palace reminded me of the reasons why I have not set foot in this restaurant for nearly 3 years.<br/><br/>Food: Dishes are heavily overpriced and the portion has been downsized quite drastically. I ordered Peking duck as a main to share with three of my mates but we were only able to get 2 pieces of duck skin each....HOW SMALL IS YOUR DUCK?? A simple stir fry was done greasy and not really a standard that I would expect from a up-class Chinese restaurant.<br/><br/>Service: Nah, don't bother. It's pretty bad.<br/><br/>Ambience: Yeah, it's nice. It makes you feel like you are actually dining in a palace. Except the food quality is mediocre and pricey.<br/><br/>Verdict: Unless you are desperate and too lazy to travel to Northbridge for something better, by all means go for it.

I have eaten many times, both lunch and dinner. Here's my overall review:<br/>* not the cheapest but if you want Chines to impress, this is a good option.<br/>* on busy nights it can get very noisy so if its intimate dining you want, maybe reconsider<br/>* I hate fruit and meat together generally, but you HAVE to try their banana chicken!<br/>* Book well in advance if you want to book during any Chinese holiday period.<br/>* Service can be slow...not the choice if you are in a rush, otherwise just sit back and enjoy.

I'm pretty sure I've had much better Chinese meal experience elsewhere. The dishes are completely fake! full of pepper and onion! not recommended at all

Chinese. Little pricy but Great food , large serves. Good service
Kevinlauemail
Owner cut on staff, even staff isnt happy and poor service. Second time having dinner there, restaurant wasnt even busy and there is only 2 staff for service. At the end of the night they were forced to get another staff. Food was good but not enough service, even basic tea and hot water service was affected. I hope it would improve in the future because I find the food there is really nice.

Don't get rip off. This restaurant has lost its glory days. It's not worth the price, as standard has deteriorated, and now it's like just an ordinary Chinese restaurant in second class. Be careful of what you ask for; a small plate of cut chilly (about 2 or 3 pieces) costs a shocking $8.00....., and it's not hot at all....

Delicious duck. Went to Han Palace for duck with some friends recently and it didnt dissapoint! Great Peking duck, great service and beautiful atmosphere. Definately worth a visit!

Excellent!. We dined last week as a group of four. We were very pleased with the food and service. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly ( even holding the door open for us as we left). The food was excellent both in taste and quality. It was an excellent evening and we would certainly go to this restaurant again.

My husband and I had the deluxe banquet here. The food was AMAZING. The service was excellent, the staff managed to be attentive and present without hovering. My only "complaint" was how big the portions are...but we did order the deluxe. Just as a point of how lovely the staff are, I am allergic to pig meat. I forgot to enquire when ordering about this in the special fried rice. So when the rice came, I asked about the pig meat. It did contain it, so the manager whisked it away and had the chef make a pig free fried rice. I was blown away by this level of service, especially when it was my "fault" for not asking when we ordered.

Nice Chinese ever. Been there last satuaday and it was busy, however they still provide quality food and top service. nice interior and good people. will absolutely go back.

Amazing food but slow service.. The food was delicious! Fantastic Peking duck- really crispy and not fatty. Liked that it came with a. Choice of a second dish made from the duck. The soft shell crab was yum! The service was very pleasant and helpful, however the food took a very long time to arrive, despite the place being very quiet.

One of my favourite places! The staff are always friendly and obliging. It is beautifully presented. The food is delicious. I eat at Han Palace at least 4 times a year and I have always had an excellent experience!

Putrid chinese in perth. Yuk, yuk, yuk! it's a never again situation for all 6 of us. we kept having to ask fot water and even though they werent busy it was taking over 30 mins to come. food was awful and staff could be heard yelling out back all night. the boss lady was rude to us and by the end of it i had to tell her to take it down a notch

Ummm... No. Came here on a Groupon for the banquet for 2 people. Been here a few times with family in the past, and I must say that this place has slipped from it's former glory. <br/><br/>To begin, service was slow and the waitress did not know anything about the house wines aside from the fact that one was red and the other was white. Two glasses of wine took over half an hour to get to our table, however, after that, food came out promptly. Chicken and sweet corn soup was crying out for seasoning. Crab claw and spring rolls were nice but not fantastic, same ones you can get anywhere else. Tai chin chicken was delicious, honey prawns were nice however there were only 4 of them, and they were 50% batter. Veggies were wonderfully fresh and crisp, fried rice was bland and void of the usual exciting bits ie prawns, bbq pork, egg etc. What really got to me, was the size of the mains, they looked tiny. When we asked the waiter if this was the normal size of the dishes, we were told that they do smaller serves for the banquet and that the dishes would be bigger servings from the a la carte menu. Also, you aren't allowed to doggy bag any leftovers if you're using a voucher - I do not understand the logic behind this, and quite frankly I thought this was quite rude as we only didn't want to waste any food... <br/><br/>Fruit for dessert was tasteless and the watermelon was off-colour. When we went up to the counter to pay for a bottle of sparkling water, we were also charged $1 for chilli oil... Guys, every restaurant I've been to gives this stuff for free. $1 for a couple of teaspoons worth of chilli oil, really? Wow, just wow.<br/><br/>The decor is nice, and the waiter with the slicked-back hair seemed to be the only one who had a clue about customer service. Felt ripped off even using a voucher, that is just sad.

Ok food. Went there using a groupon<br/>Service: excellent<br/>Atmosphere: excellent<br/>Entree: crab claw (so delicious), spring rolls (average), chicken corn soup was bland.<br/>Mains: Fried rice (plentiful amount and yummy), veggies (I didn't eat so can't comment), honey prawns (nice), squid (nice), scallop dish (wouldn't choose that one), fish in black bean sauce (nice but not many fish pieces and they were very small).<br/>Dessert: watermelon, honey dew melon and rock melon squares and a scoop of icecream (the melons were pretty bland).<br/>Drinks: as we don't drink alcohol, we requested to substitute for LLB but they said no, only soda/juice (which was the same price anyway). <br/>Just have to comment that they serve the soup in what looks like a baby bowl or strange doggy bowl, quite bizarre.<br/>It is not on my list to go back there again.

Service was Superbly Terrible!. Eight of us were there for dinner last weekend and the place was packed due to a function going on. <br/><br/>We had their 'banquet' menu and I have to admit that the portion was more than enough for us all. Food overall was ok but salty. My dad, an 80 year old man, found a small piece of trangular shaped stone/granite in the crab claw entree. It was blue in colour and had sharp edges - what looked like a chipped granite counter or something like that. Anyway, we requested for the restaurant manager/captain to see us. When we told her what we found and showed it to her, (evidenced by the mark made in the crab claw), immediately she asked if we had put it in there!!! I was shocked. I didn't say much as we were the guests. She went out and subsequently another guy came in and told us that this is defnitely not from the restaurant as they actually purchased the crab claw from a wholesaler!! The woman (she was dressed in a cheong sam) came in again and we were in for a greater shock ... she told us that if it had been in the crab claw, it would have melted from the frying!! Can stone or granite melt?? <br/><br/>I had been to so many chinese restaurants in Asia and if this had happened in a fine Chinese restaurant (as they had claimed theirs to be), they wouldn't have charged for that particular dish or even do something to redeem themselves!<br/><br/>Service was bad as we had to wait for almost half an hour for our dessert to come eventhough we had reminded them several times! <br/><br/>I won't bring any of my friends there .... food was not cheap, service is superbly poor and how they dealt with such situation was appalling!! Was she trying to tell us that we stuff the chipped whatever in there?? SHOCKING!! <br/><br/>Had this been in Singapore, HK or even Malaysia, we could have reported them!!
Caroline Ann Edwards
Waited one hour to get even a glass of tap water. Hsd to go and find a waiter several times to ask for service. Given a menu but no explanation of which 12 main dishes we could choose from on our Groupon banquet for four voucher. Again had to scour the restaurant for service and explanation. drinks order taken and half an hour later only two out of four arrived. The others eventually came after asking two more times! So you get the idea that service is woefully inadequate for a restaurant that advertises in the Entertainment Book that service is 'polished and attentive'.<br/>Having said that, the food was very tasty and unexpectedly above average and portions were more than adequate. The squid and beef black bean as well as the garlic vegetables were authentic and lovely and excellent value for $27.50 pp on the voucher. And one waiter definitely came to our rescue towards the end, going out of his way to fill the gaps left by others!!"<br/>All in all a good night out, marred especially by inattentive and bumbling<br/>service, v pricey drinks not in keeping with the other aspects of the experience.

Best Chinese in Perth. I have been to a large number of chinese restaurants all around Perth and this is by far the best.<br/>I used to live a short walk away, now drive over 30km everytime I want Chinese.<br/>The flavours and potions sizes are good and the price is always very reasonable.<br/>The staff are very attentive and senior members of staff always pop around to make sure everything is ok.<br/>They are family friendly too, as we always take our 10 month old with us.
Food Of Perth
Authentic Chinese!. Love, love love this place! I have to say that this is the best Chinese I have had in Perth! <br/>my family and I really loved the freshness of the food, it was delicious and well presented! For the quality of food and service received makes the price reasonable. I love how each dish was brought out in a timely manner, we never waited too long for a dish, but were never rushed either if that makes sense??<br/><br/>Staff were very attentive, professional and friendly! After placing our order the staff member told us we had too much food and recommended that we drop 2 dishes, I am thankful that he mentioned this as those 2 extra dishes would have gone to waste! It is nice to know that the restaurant is not "money hungry" and tries to prevent the wastage of food.<br/><br/>I will be back again soon and I am definitely spreading the word! Recommended.

Did not like it at all!!!. We had dinner here for our anniversary. It was not that busy as it was Sunday. The place looks nice and welcoming, BUT service was incredibly slow. We had to walk to the reception looking for someone to take our order. After 40 minute food arrived one by one. Taste was alright, nothing outstanding, also portion was not enough. Peking duck was expensive, we expected they bring whole duck to our table and cut and prepare to eat. But They brought something wrapped in pancake and mince in lettuce from the kitchen. Very unusual. We ordered a whole duck, but were not sure if we had a whole duck or not. Definitely not going back there. They wanted to charge 2.5% on card payment, and asked us to pay some in cash to avoid surcharge. What???

Best Chinese in perth, by far! Nothing comes close !!!

Just had a great meal. Thanks to Jason and staff! Hope to go again.soon.

Finally, a good Chinese restaurant!. Very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant especially considering the low rating on urban spoon. The food is very good quality (not too oily and no MSG taste) and good sized measures. I can highly recommend Fu Shan chicken - which is crispy skin chicken with vinegar, chilli and coriander, sounds strange but it works! Salt and pepper squid and the Lantern beef were also hits, the latter is a crunchy sweet and sour style dish. Considering how hard it is to find a good Chinese restaurant with decent service AND good food in Perth we'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

Nice decor, good food but very expensive. I went here with a group of 4 friends. We were served promptly and the food was very good. I liked how the waiter served the rice for everyone. How ever I found the dishes extremely expensive. Was around $35 for a main and $25 for fried rice. Nice opulent Chinese decor. Would only come back for a special occasion.

Great food & service. A group of four dined for the first time on a Friday evening. Service was very good with excellent food & beverage choices. Decent size portions of fresh & tasty food. Will return again.

Good Service, Great food. I have been 4 times to Han Palace and I can rate the food as 9/10 and the service 8/10. Apart from 1 dish which was a bit salty, I have loved and appreciated the entrée, main course and desert. Special thank to Jason who looks after the customers very well

Excellant Chinese Fare - Lovely decor. Dining out in Perth IS overpriced and expensive. Stat. And Han Palace is no different from any other restaurant. However Han Palace IS value for money “for Perth”.<br/>A dark exterior and upon entering its’ like going into another world... The golden opulent furnishings down to the table settings are Chinese, perhaps a little OTT but just really pleasant.<br/>The food is fresh, tasty, authentic and well... just really good Chinese food.<br/>The service is friendly, not stuffy and very good.<br/>We had the hot and sour soup - huge serving! The egg yolk crab - which was the highlight, pork hot pot – tender and flavoursome, and the salty fish, chicken and tofu hotpot – I always order this dish if I can and Han Palace did one of the best yet.<br/>Also - Once they found out it was my birthday, they played the Chinese tune and bought out fresh fruit and deep fried ice cream - a cute touch.<br/>Thanks Han Palace - a lovely Asian dining experience in Perth - we will be back.

Just had the best chinese banquet . The waiter jason has been best . I reckon mend this palace

Highlight dish was snowcrab with egg yolk. Unfortunately vinegar chicken was too sweet n undercook. Spinach was too salty, tofu n mongolian lamb was ok. Peking duck was too dry n sang chow pau taste like it was missing the duck. Quite disappointed.
Hardrockcafe
Great experience. Food was delicious. Food presentation was good. It wasn't noisy like some Chinese restaurants. Recommend: 8 treasure duck; flower chicken; red bean pancake with ice cream. The cutlery made the experience more special. Waiter persons were friendly n helpful!
Ann
Extremely unhappy with the service at this restaurant. When it came to payment, I was informed that I could not use 2 entertainment cards eventhough there was 4 of us. The lady (Stacy) taking payment at the counter was very rude and I realized the next day that my entertainment card was swapped for an expired previous year's card! Attempts to contact her has been unfruitful and unsuccessful. - Diners Beware!
Sharon Collins
Lovely meal. This really was a superb eating experience. The food was the best Chinese food I have ever eaten anywhere. Lovely staff too, and the owners personally checked we were happy. Great recommendation from our hotel. Very highly recommended!

First Class Meal - 5 Star Service. Han Palace is truly the whole dining experience. The restaurant is triple threat: World class venue, Quality Food and Exceptional service. If you are looking to impress clients, staff or loved ones this place has it covered. Everything from the décor, the furniture, to the staff dress code has been carefully selected to give the restaurant an element of class. The private dining areas are some of the best I have seen in Perth. The presentation and taste of the food is first class. The batter on the pepper squid is the best in Perth and the crispy duck main is exceptional. Not many restaurants in Perth remember the importance if good customer service however the 'hostess with the mostess' Anthea and her team really do look after their customers.<br/>I am looking forward to going back to try Han Palace's famous Peking duck!
Jeffery Ang
Had a full 9 nine course dinner with a whole bunch of friends today. The food and service were simply fantastic. The private room decor and table set up was impressive. I would certainly go there again. Most ofmy friends were impressed by the quality and quantity. A+. Jason and Anthea were fantastic hosts.

Mr Hilly. Just dined at Han Palace & boy what a massive slide in this place has taken. I am a regular business traveller to Perth & have dined here many times. It is just so over priced with very small serves & now very very average food. I just do not understand why supposed 5 star restaurants employ less than 1 star wait staff. The waiter tonight was to put it simply hopeless. I ordered spring rolls to start & asked for chilli sauce which I had to explain what that was. When they arrived they were just warm & I got a sickly sweet red sauce that I had not idea what it was. I ordered king prawns in black bean & a small fried rice. The prawns like the spring rolls were just warm. Fried rice not on your nelly, I was presented with a small steamed rice & when I complained I was told that's what I ordered. The main serve was so small in any normal restaurant it would have been an entree. Total bill $80, I am still hungry, did not get what I ordered, I am never ever going back. Just so you know I had 1glass of wine & nothing else in that $80 account. Do yourself a huge favour, don't bother as I am sure I will not. Grossly overpriced, grossly over rated.

Delightful duck & decor.. We went to Han Palace on a Peking Duck recommendation. It didn't disappoint.<br/>Our starters were just okay. I had soup and GF had a pancakey thing that was too greasy for her to finish.<br/>The Peking duck however, was a star. First part was with pancakes - Peking-style and the rest came as Sang Choy Bow. We had some vegetable fried rice to go with it but found it very oily.<br/>There's Eight Treasures Duck on the menu which looks interesting but you have to pre-order it, so we'll have to return with that duck lined up, so to speak.<br/>The prices at Han Palace are quite expensive, so take your Ent Card. All in all, I don't mind because it's not your cheap suburban Chinese joint with plastic everything including tablecloths. The decor at Han Palace is beautiful and they use real tablecloths, napkins and quality and intersesting crockery. I still think it's good value and as I said, we're going back for more duck.
Ryan
Plain. Very overpriced Chinese food. Unfortunately seems to be the perth norm. Restaurants charge too much and produce very average quality food. The dishes here generally seem to be just... not very good and some even put me off. I can't put my finger on it. Fried rice is quite bland. Unfortunate because I love Chinese food.
Tinkerbell
I love it here I'm a regular I think there fantastic and the food is the best Chinese ever.. And I go to a lot of restaurants
Garcon ...
Not good enough. I don't mind that a Chinese banquet restaurant actually shifts away from the usual frenetic pace that such restaurants typically go about delivering the dishes. It would be refreshing. But our experience at Han Palace was of glacial pace. Add to this that on three occasions the dish was delivered to our table and no instruction was given that we were supposed to wait for a second waiter to actually plate up the dishes. We found ourselves being arm-wrestled away from the serving spoon when the 'glacial' (there's that word again) finally arrived to plate up. The staff is not being trained to be sharp, thinking ahead and understanding the status that our banquet is at should any queries from the diners come forth i.e. how many dishes have we to go. However, the two way fish, pork hock, fried rice (done in butter, hence its oiliness) were good, the rest of the dishes were ... well ... ho hum! Mediocre is simply not good enough. Book this restaurant at your peril for the sort of money they're charging.
Ed
Hit and miss. Went there for a small party of four, had a pleasant dinner, good food and service.<br/>We then picked it for a dinner party of 15, since there were very large round banquet tables. However, it turned out to be somewhat of a let-down. Food was average at best and service minimal. It will not get my custom again.
GimmeeFood
Good food. Not great Service.. Food is good but service could be better. We were given one menu between 4 of us and we were not given any more until we requested extra menus. Also when we asked for an extra 5 minutes to read the menu before ordering, they never came back and I had to go and search the restaurant for a waitperson. Granted it was busy but we felt as if we had been forgotten. A bit embarrassing when you are out for a birthday dinner.
Mel
Appalling food. Fried rice was gluggy & very oily. Won't be returning!
East Perthite
Inconsistent at best. We've been to this restaurant twice. Each time, after entering, it's taken more than 5 minutes for anyone to appear to seat us. Once, I had to use my mobile to call the restaurant to tell them we were waiting to be seated.<br/><br/>The second (and last) time we ate take away, a member of our party received a mystery meat none of us could recognize. He ordered chicken, and if this was chicken, it was from another planet. It was inedible. We won't be returning.
Kazzablanca13
Room for improvement. A few tables of us had a banquet lunch. The dishes were a bit disappointing, I expected more considering all I'd heard about this place...

Good service but more importantlygreat great food in wonderful surroundings. Just go there and tellyour friends.

Han Palace is not the same as Hans Cafe, in fact it's the opposite of Hans Cafe. It's opposite in the sense that it's not bad asian food with bad service. The restaurant is hidden amongst other houses along Bennett street in East Perth, the only way to distinguish it the chinese style roofing and the chinese style entrance. The restaurant is not your average Chinese restaurant, it is far from the cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurants that aspire to the same style of Chinese cooking, in fact, Han Palace is an upmarket eatery. The food is rich in flavours, an art form, the interior has traditional and rather decadent decor and a atmosphere that is well refined for a Chinese restaurant. The service of the place has improved dramatically, and the food is exceptionally good for Chinese food. In fact it's up there on the Chinese eatery. The best one I still reckon is Grand Palace on the esplanade. But that's another story. We had a banquet dinner, 11 dishes or so in total, but I was too bus
