Review Bulgogi Bbq - Perth

B W
The restaurants exterior isn’t the most attractive store front I’ve seen, however the interior is a bit better. The menu could do with improvements, both of physical appearance, layout and what is on menu. Compared to other bbq I have been to, there was a lack of sauces and complimentary vegetables with the meat. The service was good though, and the hot plate functioned well.

Absolutely amazing experience, had the marinated meats, all were top quality and the flavours were excellent. Korean pancake was also a standout. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I took some friends that had never tried Korean bbq before, they said it was the best dinner they'd had in a very long time and will be back ASAP

Great! Food arrived quick and warm. Even if you don’t like Korean BBQ or you accidentally burn the beef (like I did) you aren’t on MasterChef so no stress, there is plenty rice to go around! Savoury pancake was delicious and cozy atmosphere.
Renee Aloha
Fresh meat and prompt service with a reasonable price!! Love it!
vincenzo roccara squarcialupi brancaleone
The most disgusting korean fried chicken i’ve ever had. Tasteless and just covered with batter loaded with oil. $22 for 8 piece, absolute disgrace to korean food.

Very good Korean BBQ, authentic and taste. Many Korean guests and the decorated just like in Korean dramas. But surprised me the most was that they have really nice korean steak tartare~ my favorite~Fresh steak wrapped in egg yolk is very tender, and mixed with crisp juicy pears and special sauce, that's fantastic😋

Such a satisfying BBQ place! Reasonable price, meat of a good quality and nice service. Here's just like one in Korea. Had a pleasant dinner tonight and it's not gonna be out last visit😊 Cheers.

It Might be the best Bulgogi in Perth 🤔. Don't be fooled by its simple interior, their food is on point !
GetinmyBelly
Great place, taste is excellent, staff are friendly and hospitable really cannot fault this restaurant. Have a pretty limited menu but possibly have done so to ensure that all their items on the menu is of a certain level

Tasty Meat and delicious marinate, reasonable price too! , love the kimchi and seafood pancake even the dipping sauce not sweet which weike , Jab chae must try , spicy pork on hot plate also delicious(the hot plate small but plenty of meat ) , we’ve tried other dishes as well and all so good , last of all try no 3 from the top of the menu , its so tender and serious flavour of the marinade , that is why our family keep coming back ! 🙂

As close as authentic as you will get. Charcoal fired BBQ. Place was filled with Korean patrons which made us super happy. Always a good sign! Loved the Kimchi! We had both beef and pork and the kimchi salad hot bowl. Superb all round. Outstanding!
Please do order the Korean "wine" white , slightly fermented taste. It is soooooo good!
We will be back again!
Great job to everyone at the place.😊☝🏻
Orderer the sweet rice drink, jap chae, marinated pork and roasted bbq duck. They serve several small dishes and vege to go with the meat too. Everything was on point and it was a delight dining here. They could probably improve by tenderising the duck meat as duck is more tough compared to pork.
Kudokun
Nice coZy restaurant in East Perth with plenty of good meat. Their pork belly and beef tongue are a must have. Ideal to come with group of friends, have great bbq and enjoyable conversation. Staffs were polite too.

Had such a nice dining experience here. I loved the meat choices for BBQ, pancakes were delicious, cold noodles were superb (best in Perth yet) and fried chicken was crispy and juicy! Also liked how they had the fune hoods over the BBQ, it makes it a nicer environment to dine in. Free top ups on the side dishes - what more could you ask for?

Update: Ok, the kimchi pancake that was temporarily on the menu a while ago is now a permanent fixture. Having tried a few places around Perth recently, I must say Bulgogi has the best pancake in town (heavenly crispy and caramelized on the outside and beautifully warm and soft inside). Pair that with delicious homemade kimchi and you have a bloody winner! The bulgogi has a beautiful smoky flavour, the japchae beats most in town, and they have seriously good banchan.

Fantastic quality BBQ; well made, delicious, homely Korean dishes, and good service. Good eats!!

Delicious food! Great service! Their haemul pajeon is probably the best in Perth. Banchan provided are always well made and fresh. While there isn't a large variety provided, the ones provided are always topnotch!

Food was good and pretty cheap for the amount you get. Got the duck, marinated pork belly and meat tray, by far the best was the marinated pork belly.

Omg! I love this place soooo much! We came in a group of 5 and had so much food for $45 per person!! First time trying dolsot their bibimbap and doenjang jjigae and they were heaven!! Kimchijeon, pajeon and osam bulgogi delicious as always, as were the so galbi and samgyeopsal!! Banchan is best in town!!! Lovely staff!! 감사합니다 😊

Best Korean food in Perth! This place is super authentic and the menu has plenty of choice. For the BBQ I recommend the short beef rib! Their squid and pork
bulgogi and spicy stir fried squid are amazing, along with the kimchi and seafood pancake. They stock a great range of Korean beer, soju and makgeolli at affordable prices! Service is fast and friendly, we will be back soon to try their jjigaes!
Chels Badger
Another Perth Korean BBQ joint that is absolutely killing it! A little cheaper than others, but only by a slight amount and the kimchi wasn't that spicy but tbh I liked that :)

My go to place for Korean BBQ! Great quality meats, and all other dishes are very traditional. Fast service and good selection of drinks. Added bonus of brand new exhausts at each individual grill means you don't come out smelling like smoke either and can go out afterwards. Good for big groups too as they have separate rooms down the back that you can book.
Sumobunny
Love it! I always come to this restaurant if I am craving for some korea bbq. They have one of the best tasting wagyu beef, and cold noodles. Will recommend to others!
Linsey
100% the best Korean restaurant in Perth! This is a must for people who love Korean BBQ, especially so-galbi (short beef rib). You should also try some bulgogi dishes and seafood pancake. The food here is super traditional and service is fast and friendly as is the standard in Seoul ! It's BYO but also stocks Korean faves such as soju, makgeolli and mekju at affordable prices! We absolutely love it here :)

One of my korean friend introuduce me to this place few years ago and is my favorite place for korean bbq since then. The owner is korean and most of the staff are korean.

+ positive
0 neutral
- negative

+ : they using charcoal on each table for you to bbq the meat rather than normal fire and gas. (It taste better)

+ : you could refill the side dishes whenever you need more. (Kimchi, seaweed, pototoes, radish & carrot, and etc)

+ : for the price ($50 for 2 person), food is great (i usually get pork belly, kimchi soup, stir fried marinate pork.)

0 : Tried their seafood soup, lots of ingredients but not my taste.

0 : Sometimes there is no parking (6pm - 8pm), end up going somewhere else. Just don't go during busy hour, usually there's alot carpark at the back after 7:30pm or 8pm

- : the only negative things is the air circulation, it still make sense when lots people bbq their meat and lots of smoke coming out but still hope the air circulation are better. (Try get table near the door side for better air circulation)

Overall is a nice place to hang out with friends if you don't mind that your cloths have the bbq smell after you done.

A good place for korean barbeque, the price was reasonable and the quality is decent.

The place is rather small though so you might need to wait for quite a while when it is busy!

If you look from the outside you will be scared to enter... The ambient is awful at all. But the meat I ordered was great, super tasty. Vegetables with the meat were horrible, left all of them there.
Ok for the meat, but I will not be back for sure.

Best Korean restaurant in Perth! This place is very authentic and always busy, even on Monday nights- so book a table or come early. Meat lovers should order the short ribs!! I highly recommend the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) and ojingu bokkeum (spicy squid) as well as their side dishes. The kimchi and fish cake are out of this world! Service is always quick and friendly:)
Jojostar
While I find that their soups is quite lacking in flavours in general (we had soft tofu and kimchi soup), their marinated meat range is absolutely divine. Beef ribs is an absolute must order!
That Girl Who Travels
I do find that the dishes were priced a little high given the portion of beef that actually came in the soup my husband ordered. Taste wise its quite lovely. I would definitely go back, especially for the kimchi which is always a plus!
Shawn
We love coming here because of the reasonable price and nice food. We usually order the bbq meats. Not the best in Perth, but considering the price and location (very near to our apartment), it is a regular favorite.

I'm Korean and I'm also a foodie so you can trust me on this... But, this is the best Korean restaurant in Perth for Korean BBQ. I highly recommend this place if you'd like to enjoy BBQ. Their wang-galbi (the large-sized marinated beef) is a bit pricey but very delicious and it runs out quick, so I recommend you order early if you'd like to try this.
Jtogno
Good food, very tasty in a place where most of the other customers were Korean, which is an indicator of the quality

The chicken wings are deep fried and huge so only order them if you are hungry but better than KFC

The metal chopsticks suck though, hard to use and a bit unnecessarily pretentious.
Zee
Food was awesome!! Totally loved everything we ordered. I would probably recommend getting the any beef dishes for the BBQ. The only problem was the ventilation but other than that, all good!

Came here for a GF birthday for a group of 8 girls in a private room. Luckily the food was ok, because the service was super crap. The lady waitress was not happy answering any of our questions, and was greeted with a sour face. Upon cutting the cake we had to ask for plates for the cakes and they gave us 4 plastic plates among 8 guests?!! Been to quite a few Korean restaurants and this is by far the worst service.
.ji.sama
great korean bbq here, probably my favourite korean bbq joint in perth, something about their meat...always tastes superdelicious...only problem is i love chicken and they don't have chicken on their bbq menu...everything else is fantastic, service too as you don't really get that at the other places...love the cold noodles and the seafood pancake...yummy..
Evonne
Pleasant local Korean restaurant. Had the pajeon, kimchi jigae, soon doobu jigae. Banchan was kimchi, bean sprouts and fishcake. Nice, homely flavours in a casual environment. Would like to try the BBQ meats next time to give a complete review =)

6 people seated without fuss. I had the bibimbap and it was great. Also the seafood pancake, much deliciousness. A low fuss great taste restaurant.

Been to Bulgogi BBQ restaurant several sometimes and I must say this is my favourite place to have Korean BBQ. The place is amazing which have rooms for reserved and the staff are helpful. Comes to this restaurant, have some number 2,6,7,9 with kimchi soup, seafood pancake and some OB beers with soju. Things couldn't get any better without this. I'm a big fan of BBQ and being a meat lover so this is where I will be there most and my friend of friend of friend sometimes we run up to here. I love Bulgogi BBQ.
AngMohAsian
Very surprised. The food here is quite nice, I didn't expect much cause it seems a little out of the main areas of Perth and can't do well. I was very happy with their dolsot bi him bap, I love the stone pot and the meat and vegie combo with the egg. I loved how they didn't cool the egg all the way through, cause you're meant to mix it when they serve it. The calamari was in fact very tender and cooked well. I will try bbq here when I get the chance.
Cassie
The place is quite cramped and in the summer it can get very hot inside the restaurant. However, the food is good and is cheaper than some other Korean BBQ restaurants.
Dan
You know this place is good when it's filled with Koreans every night of the week. Me and my partner love the beef and pork bulgogi. The service is quick and the price very reasonable. It has the nicest kimchi ever! Be prepared to come out smelling like a bbq.

Well just got back from dinner. Meals were about $15 each plus drinks. Korean BBQ style. Outstanding. Will be going back there again. I could count the number of "Round Eyes" other than us on one hand. English was not really heard at all. All in all a good restaurant as long as you don't need to much instruction on what to do or how to eat the food using the lettuce leaves instead of plates.

1st Visit. Authentic Korean cuisine..wide choices....efficient service...stress free drining...good value too.

#1 KBBQ in PTOWN. This place is the best for korean bbq!!

1. plenty parking available (this is quite a big deal these days)
2. fast service + friendly staff ( I asked so many things from the waiter, and he patiently attend to my requests)
3. top quality meat!
4. price is quite reasonable

L O V E I T !!!

Decent meat, tasty and great service. Will be back soon.

The restaurant was packed when we got there and that was a good sign. Friendly atmosphere, tasty BBQ and washed down with BYO wine and some purchased Korean beer. Great night out

Eastern End Korean. Situated at the East end of town where not a lot appears to happen Bulgogi is a non discript shop front. Groups of Asian customers sit at tables with the equipment for BBQ in situ.

The thing with Korean in Perth is that it is often overpriced and underwhelming, Bulgogi was a surprise on both counts. The first hint that things are looking up comes when you see the real coals being lowered with skill into the cavity at the table. Temperature can still be controlled with a gas burner so it is not all cave man.

The slices of meat are generous and flavorsome. Side dishes are authentic and complement the BBQ. The seafood pancake was satisfying and generous. Beer prices are cheap for Perth and the Shoju satisfied the 4 of us.

Services was efficient. Give it a go. Most enjoyable and affordable at the same time.

Great food, Great service. What more can you ask.. Had really enjoyable meal here on New Years Eve. It was busy but the service was excellent and the food something to race about.

Foodie Is My Middle Name
A Korean friend told me about this joint on Hay St so we decided to give it a go on Saturday night. I was not disappointed at all, quick service, lovely staff, good food. Favourite dish - bibimbap! Delicious!
Vivian
Not very nice food. Beef chewy and tasteless. Seafood pancake and pork scotch fillet was nice. But the wagyu was not up to standard. Maybe we are a spoilt in Melbourne with great Korean restaurants....

Yuuummmm!!. Loved it! Allot of people think having a night off is not cooking your own food which I agree with but this place certainly is not like cooking at home. All the food was fresh, delicious and it was fun! Me and the partner had serious fun here. Will definitely be back.

Fun, good night out. I went there and had a very western eating girlfriend and she even loved the food, and was good fun, great service and obviously best part of the whole night was the price.
Definetly a good experience eating straight off the cooker. really adds a new dimension to dinner :)
Idoido001
Best Korean restaurant!!!:). I am a Korean.
I believe this restaurant is one of the best Korean restaurant in Perth.
Free refill of side dish and soy sauce marinated pork is really yummy ;)

True Korean Food. This place has the best tofu n seafood soup and pork n squid bulgogi I've ever tasted. These have become my comfort food for the past few months. Well, I go there once every 2-3 weeks. Just never get bored of it. The decor looks so simple but the food is simply amazing and fantastic price too! A must try Korean restaurant for sure!
Tttt
Food was average for its price. Otherwise ok.

Yummy yummy yummy is all I can say! Great food for great value

Food okay, service so-so. The restaurant on Hay Street appeared to be busy on weekends.

We decided to give it a shot and see how this unpretentious restaurant stacks up against Dae Jang Geum and Seoul BBQ.

Without making any reservations, we head there one evening and was ushered in very quickly. Service was fast initially and like a typical Korean restaurant, it was staffed by Koreans who unfortunately cannot speak very good English. This is not a real problem but it became more evident when our BBQ meat all came out without rice. When probed, the staff cannot quite explain to us. Eventually, another staff who can speak better English informed us that the rice is still being cooked!!! I guess this was not too good as we already had our BBQ meat on the grill.

We also had the Pa Jeon apart from the usual BBQ. The pancake was a far cry from the ones I had back in Seoul. Okay, maybe there is a tad unfair considering that some ingredients may not be available in Perth. But it still pales in comparison to Dae Jang Geum and Seoul BBQ. It was thick and flour-y. Bleh!

I say, skip this joint.

Good standard Korean BBQ food, very quick and organized service. Ridiculously cheap.

Awesome. One of the best korean bbq restaurants in perth. great food, great service at very reasonable prices, bulgogi is always a pleasant experience thanks to the friendly staff.
Darren
What a great spot ..really really good honest Korean food .. Cook your own at the table or have it authentically prepared for you. BYO Wine (beers available - local and Korean ).. Two of us ate with corkage ..$34 BUCKs!.. Don't be fooled by the simple cafe style decor.. The place has vibe! Go where the locals go!
Jenn_uine
Really good korean food!. I love their marinated beef (Galbi), its the best in Perth! The spicy pork & squid dish and the spicy seafood tofu soup are lovely too. If you want great Korean BBQ this is the place! The only downside is the smell of meat that gets absorbed in your clothes lol, you'll need a shower when you get home!
Noka San
Pros: great food, fast and friendly service, good value for money - the Meat Love (for 2) is more than enough to satisfy any korean beef craving! free parking around the back is a plus given the location in the cbd

Cons: only open for dinner and no longer on sundays which was our preferred day to go, ventilation could be increased e.g. directly over each table to reduce the barbecue scent stuck on us
Ryu
Didnt even get to sit down!. Was recommended this restaurant by a good friend who is Korean.

I made a reservation for 7, arrived at the restaurant and they had not taken my booking down. The made no effort to seat our group and majority of the staff had extremely limited English, for Pete’s sake if you’re going to have a restaurant in PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA try to have some basic English language skills as it is imperative in hospitality as you have to deal with people from all cultures. After showing the lady at the counter my phone history, clearly showing that I made a call to the restaurant earlier she acknowledged that I had called them but had not pencilled us in. I found the staff to be extremely rude and to not care less whether we got a table or not. I found this quite frustrating and a first for me at any restaurant, most restaurants will apologise and make some sort of arrangement. I took my group of friends up the street to another restaurant, expect 6 more bad reviews to follow this one.

Regards,

Ryu

The place is alright. Lack of ambience and atmosphere. Food wise is good.

Overall, i will give 7 out of 10.
The Critic
Friendly service. Great tasting, fresh food. Plenty of flavour across their menu. BBQ meats, bulgogi and even the fried chicken was far from the usual. As a non local, loved it. Just a lil more pricey than others out there.

Great Casual Korean Eatery. My wife and I had dinner here last night. We ordered the mixed meat plate (to BBQ at our table), a spicy pork and tofu stew to share, and an extra bowl of rice (as the stew came with a bowl). Plenty of food for two people, and with a cup of tea each the meal came to $45. Not bad at all for some extremely tasty meat and condiments (e.g. kim chi, omelette, potato, cos lettuce, garlic, chilli...) and an excellent stew. There was literally nothing left when we finish - it was that good. The restaurant was pretty busy for a wednesday - it would be worth booking on a Friday or Saturday - and this one is definitely worth a try. Don't expect much in the way of niceties (the teas were served in clear plastic 'glasses' with the tea bags still in them!) but it is clean enough, service is fast, and the food excellent. The current 96% rating is deserved IMO.
Alice In Wonder
If you want to try real korean cuisine i would recommend this place is the best in Perth

It's not that cheap when you have table bbq(roughly $25/pp), but you get right amount food and service as much you pay!

IF YOU CONSIDER TO GO KOREAN RESTAURANT, THEY ARE REALLY BUSY BETWEEN 7-8PM EVEN WEEKDAYS.
Missdelish
Always a good sign to walk into a restaurant and hear the language associated with the cuisine abounding. One of only 2 non-Koreans on a packed night, and now l know why. Delicious Bbq meat (rib eye and brisket) for two with kim chi, salad, fish cakes and many more sides, washed down with abottle of plum wine for under $50. Bargain...
Y.J
Well....... Been a regular here for a while, always pleasant but not this time. We called before we go and they said they closed at 10pm. Once we get there at the time of 9pm and see they are going to clean up. We still got served but be informed some dishes are not available!! Can't believe a restaurant try to stop service an hour before closing time!!! That's not too good!

-----02 Jul, 2012-----

Great food !. Have been there for dinner few times, and the food is always good. The BBQ combo(3 kinds of meat) only $28.00 and serve with side dishes & green salad. We always and BBQ combo, a pot of kimchi stew, seafood pancake and some drinks, it cost us only like $50-$60. Great value for 2. Will visit regularly.

Great food. I love coming here, the service is good, the prices are fantastic and the food is fresh, spicy and tasty. im so grateful that I live in the neighbourhood!

Satisfying, spicy hot, don't think I can finish this great meal....

Good option for East Perth. Came here on a friday night and it was quite busy mostly with tourists and asian businessmen. We had a shared beef soup (bulgogi) which was more than enough for two people. The price was something like $34.
Mazstar1980
This place made me love Korean food. This was my first foray into Korean food besides one drunken BBQ experience. This place is excellent - very cheap lunches and great food that is consistently tasty.

Their stone bibimbap, kimchi stew are amongst my favourites.

Just recently, they decided they would stop doing lunches except for on Fridays - this sucks.
Js0n1
Great lunch deals. Came here for lunch one day. For $8, I got a really generous serving of meat rice and noodles.
Daniel Bahk
Had the pork ribs, bibimmyun and dol sot bibim bab, tasted great. Only downer is the exhaust system setup is quite poor so u come out smelling like BBQ, buy seriously food is awesome, much better than other Korean restaurants in Perth.
Dotty Queen
I went with 2 of my friends to try out this small Korean restaurant. We ordered the BBQ and also one of the toufu soup. The price of the food is very reaonsable.
Jellyphine
We were so full by the end of the night and it worked out to be about $25pp, which I find to be of so much more value than a buffet version of korean bbq. Although if variety is what you are after, then buffet is the way to go!
Shaun
I had a delicious crispy seafood pancake with spicy kimchi, bean sprouts, bean curd & a sour sauce. I then had tender flavoursome beef bulgogi which was excellent. They also offer gas stoves to cook your own Korean BBQ. Recommend
