Review Nasi Lemak Korner - Perth

Perth Photography
Nice restaurant with nice decor food was ok but rice was cold when it arrived.. given the name of the place is the food i ordered and it seems like it is their speciality, plus the premium price for a dish that is usually not so expensive, I expected more. It is disappointing when the specialty dish is not as good as many other vendors out there, and do not charge a higher price, its no wonder the place of almost empty when i got there on a Saturday lunch time, i believe more attention to their main dish will help their business better.

We had the Beef Rendang & Fish Curry, and thought that the meals were absolutely delicious. For me, it was the best Rendang I’d had since a holiday in KL. The service was really good, and atmosphere bubbly. The waiter/maître d' and waitress were very attentive. We’ll be back soon to try the laksa next.

High quality service for excellent value. Food was okay but nothing spectacular. Maybe a bit on the bland side. Tasting plate is highly recommended.

Bad experience!! Never answer their phone. Booked twice from the fork both time was cancelled by the restaurant. First time was in April which I booked for our family of 8, they cancelled our booking the day before via email. We decided to give them a second chance in June we made a booking for 3 pax for Aug - mum’s bday. And one month later today, the booking was cancelled again. Very disappointed at this restaurant. I don’t think we will ever book this place again!

Average at best and very far from authentic Malay food. The best dish we had was the sweet potato noodles. The chicken was overcooked and the sambal was only spicy and lacking the depth of flavour you get from real sambal. Service was also really slow, although it was a packed out evening, but from what we saw, a lot of takeaway went out while the tables got to wait for their food.

Tasty food at a reasonable price. Generous serves. Good ambiance, but can get a bit noisy. Service is friendly and courteous, but can be more orderly. The biggest problem is seating. Chairs are rather uncomfortable and if you are really unlucky, you will only get a stool with no back support. But all in all, we had a great evening at this place.

I would give it a 0 star but cannot be done. Do not make a reservation with this restaurant through any apps such The Fork, Quandoo or the restaurant booking facility. Apparently it been closed for several months, the owners have not bother to advise the appropriate organisation or amend information on their website. We booked last week via The Fork for lunch today. Upon arrival we found the restaurant closed, we waited for 15 minutes in case the owner was running late but no one came. It's unprofessional and inconsidered not to advise appropriate organisation & amend website of the closure.😡

Great looking restaurant. The staff who took our ordered made us feel a bit hurried though. I did make a mistake ordering a spicy nasi lemak (Nasi Lemak Sambal Ayam) which is quite tasty but provided so much heat than I can endure. My partner got the Beef rendang and reckons it could have been done better. I did ask for milk but apparently there was none. 😂 I do want to give it another chance though.

I managed to get past my annoyance that they spelled corner with a ‘k’ (pet hate of mine), and decided to book a table. It’s in a busy little area of Como with shops and a cinema close by. There are high and low tables, and it’s a BYO establishment. The menu is full of tempting Malaysian favourites, and we chose fairly traditional dishes. We started with a chicken satay (3 sticks per serve). This was nice, good satay with juicy chicken, but I have had a lot of satay before and it wasn’t the best or tastiest version I have ever tried. It was a good start to the meal though.

Their laksa is always good but all the dishes are on the pricey side. The portion is a bit small as well. It’s almost 30-40% more than any other Malay food. Seating area are quite tight as well. It’s almost back to back with other tables.
Fakan Makan
A little bit pricey for Malay food, but I think it is made up for with the venue itself. This would be a great place to take someone who hasn't experienced Malay Food before on a date. A lot nicer atmosphere then what you would typically find at a place that sells Nasi Lemak. Plus you can also finish your date with desert at the ice cream joint next door.

After 40 mins and seeing 3 groups who came in after us went to check on our food. Our had not been passed to the kitchen. Even after acknowledging their mistake our entree of Spring Rolls still took another 20 mins. Apology was very half hearted. Disappointing that a place we walk too quite often treated us this way. This place seems to be losing its way.

I’d been wanting to try Nasi Lemak for ages but being NOR I’m rarely ‘in the area’.

But when we finally did it was worth the trip.
Food was flavoursome and true. Good serving sizes. Tasting platter easily served 3 of us.

Service was prompt despite being a full house on a Thursday evening.

Delish!

Came here with some friends for dinner so ordered a few dishes to share. The presentation and flavours were good but unfortunately a lot of the dishes lacked authenticity and the curries were a little sweet. If that's your thing, then go for it. Then go to Malaysia or Singapore or some smaller Malay eateries around the place and see if you can spot the difference.

We went to the Nasi lemak korner, Como on a Friday night, it is located near to the cinema and other shops but there were plenty of parking available. This place is BYO only. I think it was our ignorance that we didn’t knew that this place is only BYO so we had to settle down with soft drinks only.

For entrees we wanted to order pipi clams but were told that it is not available for the night.
Then for entrees we ordered the chicken satay and Cucur Udang, which is basically deep fried prawn and chive fritters like onion bhajis. The entrees were nice but nothing great. I have had better chicken satays in other Perth restaurants and at are priced much economical or can I say better value for money as most places the serve includes 5-6 pieces. We shared the Prawn fritters and to my disbelief I couldn’t find a single piece of prawn in my first fritter and then may be just 1-2 pieces in the second one, though my friend confirmed that she did get few pieces of prawn in hers. The fritters were not bad if I wasn’t expecting to have some prawns in it.

For mains I ordered the Roti Canai with Chicken Curry and my friend ordered the Roti Telur with the Beef Rendang. When the mains arrived (approximately 8:45pm) the roti canai was served with the Beef Rendang and the Roti Telur with the Chicken curry. Personally being a Hindu, I do not eat beef but do not mind others eating in front of me. When we told about the same, the waitress said just swap the containers of the curry, I wasn’t very happy with this as I could see some of my chicken gravy dripping on the side of the small bowl, but thankfully the Beef Rendang didn’t spill at all.
My friend love her Beef Rendang and said she can’t complain as it was flavoursome and soft.
My chicken curry bowl had 4 pieces of potato and 1 chicken. While ordering the desserts, I just casually said, I have 4 pieces of potato and 1 chicken piece and she said its 9 pm and the not sure if kitchen has any more curry left. I enjoyed the roti and the curry was nice as well. But it wasn’t outstanding.

For desserts, we shared a chocolate cake with Banana ice-cream which was good, not overly sweet and good way to finish the meal.

The chairs are old metal framed style chairs which are not comfortable at all. Also they need better lighting for the outdoor area, it was quite dark. And the quality and the quantity of the dishes should be improved to justify the prices.

The staff are really nice and attentive.
Rob
We had tried to book previously leaving two messages however they said there was nothing on their messages, big negative there so we didn't make it. So try #2 and on this occasion the service was excellent, prompt and attentive at all times and this factor by itself tipped the scales for a rating of 4. The food was traditional with some quite good dishes and others a little underwhelming. Prices slightly on the high side. Heavy metal framed chairs not totally comfortable. The amenities area is one of the best and cleanest I have seen. At night they need an illuminated sign.

Definitely not kids friendly, was organized and book online.got there to be seat at the high table with 3kids and baby.so end up holding the 11 monthsbub the whole time.had 1 hr 30mins eating time but nobody took our order until I ask someone to.which wasted 20mins already.foods took a while to come out which I understand.didnt understand why people who were seated after us had foods and left already.my dish came out and asked for chopsticks and was told they didnt have any.never going back here again.services was terrible.

Starting with the positives: staff are really nice with good customer service skills. Decor is quite good.
And that's about it.
Food lacked any flavour, barely even any seasoning. Ordered 2 types of roti, vegetable lentil and buttermilk chicken. Everything was consistently underwhelming. To be honest, I couldn't even finish and I hate wasting food.

The place was small and crowded and it was very difficult to move in between tables to even go to the toilet. Additionally, there are no clear signs that show where the restaurant is. Overall, the food was authentic yet average but yet very overpriced in comparison to quality.

We had the Nasi Lemak with Ayam Percik and Mamak Mee Goreng - It was delicious! The staff were lovely ... and very helpful too. There is a gorgeous mural inside depicting a blend of South Perth, Perth City and (we think) Malacca. We googled and found out that the Artwork both inside and outside is done by Malaysian artist Joshua Kane Gomes. We’ll definitely be back again soon.

Food taste good. Service is sometimes a bit slow. Price is a little on the expensive side. Great decor of the restaurant, easy to find parking space.

Ok picture this.
Guy 1: We should start an asian restaurant
Guy 2: I know, let's name ourselves after a cheap, easy to make malaysian dish
Guy 3: Oh, also we should market to rich white folks and rip them off!! let's charge $20 per dish which is nowhere near authentic or half as tasty as the orginating product, put it in a nice plate for #foodie instagram posts that will look cool!! Most of our customers will not be asians who know better, they will never pay that much for nasi lemak!!!
Pretty much sums up the experience here.

We ate here on the 2nd March and will never return. The meal was disgusting slop. I sent a private message to the venue to relay our disappointment
They gave me the “sales pitch” and said they would investigate
Expectedly, I have heard nothing
I am a local in this area and want to support local business, very hard to when no pride is taken when dishing sloppy food
Shame on you!
Denise Koh
Decent food and staff are friendly but probably shouldn't charge $20 for a dish you can get from it's origin for $1-2 unless you can make it just as well as them. The food on their menu is considered street food in Malaysia and if you want to charge those prices, probably up your game a little, but not a bad place at all.
Wulan Sucipto
Great place for the taste of Malaysian food. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Located in Como area. Their nasi lemak taste beautiful. And they have lots of variations on beverages which i loved very much.

sharing between 8 of us, this place was great. although the food is quite pricey for what you get, shared between all of us came to a total of $15 each which i conclude is reasonable for the place and location, and was enough to fill must of us. the decor was hipster and different, and the music was a plus for me. also the waitress who served us was lovely and friendly. overall a good experience.
Nikki Brown
Such tasty food and delivered to the table very quickly, service was excellent and the food is really well priced.
Cannot fault this little food gem.
JR
I have really liked the food here since the day it opened however sadly as appears with a lot of restaurants it has gone downhill but not as much as the service. The service has become appalling. We were charged corkage which I do not mind but they did not offer any wine glasses or an ice bucket.....all other patrons did...excuse was that they were too busy. Two desserts were ordered, one came the second arrived in a plastic box in a plastic bag after I had paid the bill on which I disputed the corkage and they refunded $4. Pathetic attitude towards its customers in my opinion, especially as we are local with businesses just across the street and home around the corner. In short the staff really do not care, they are probably students and God help us in the future if that is the attitude we will have to deal with. If you want a proper curry go to Saino on Canning Highway Como

Never disappointed with this place. I've paid much more for much smaller portions and average quality food at many other Malaysian restaurants in Perth. Still amazes me how cheap NLK is for great quality Malaysian food!
Cannot get enough of the Chicken Sambal, but for true Chilli lovers only.

The place is always pumping, even on a Monday night - that's a pretty good indicator of a great restaurant. Not surprised walkins struggle - the food is so good, priority goes to those who book.

Having read some of the other reviews:
Just wanna say, the service is consistently good for what's on offer and waiters are always friendly and attentive when needed.
The staff are doing everything they should be.
I think some clientele are mistakenly expecting high class dining, which is leading to the bad reviews. If you can look past this, you'll realize how good their offering actually is, and why it's packed every night.

Don't expect 'at your beck and call' service, that's not the NLK vibe. It's a cheap and good quality Malaysian restaurant with BYO, that's got a busy but still chilled atmosphere.

Food is ok not exceptional. I booked a mth in advance but on the day they called saying that they only have a small table for 3 of us, so small that our legs cannot all fit under the table and was very uncomfortable eating. Deep fried foods were more greasier than usual, drenched in oil...we were full after the entree tasting platter before starting mains. A bowl of steam rice is a ridiculous $6! Don't think we will ever be back.
More Than Nourishment
After seeing a great deal through Scoopon, we couldn’t resist to try it out. We were greeted by a unfriendly manager.. not a good first impression. Luckily the younger waitresses made up for it and quickly took our orders. Food came out soon after. The cold Teh tarik didn’t have the usual strong tea flavour and was too milky for my liking. The nasi lemak with the beef randang was a generous serving which had a good spicy kick. The sambal was delish. We also got the nasi lemak with the squid. Oh man.. it was spicy! Luckily I can eat hot food and it did make me break a sweat. Unfortunately the durian strudel was a let down. It tasted like defrosted durian on plain pastry. Not worth eating. Overall it was a good meal although I wouldn’t pay full price for it as it was on more of the expensive side.

Went here with my hubby and great experience. Got seated immediately and greeted by friendly server. We had the tasting plate and nasi lemak. Very lovely interiors. Very quick service and delicious tasting food. We really enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning soon to this restaurant.
Ilovebeansprouts
Lovely interior with a nice ambience. Tried a number of dishes and while some dishes tasted great, others were just so-so. Had the Cucur Udang (Prawn & Chives Fritters) and Tuna Cutlets to begin with. Both had delicious flavours, but we would have liked more prawns in the Cucur Udang and more crisp on the Tuna Cutlets. Pipi Clams were beautifully cooked in a light tasting broth.
For mains, we had the Nasi Lemak and Nasi Pandan, which were both nice and fluffy. The sambal of the Nasi Lemak has a good kick of spice. Quite enjoy the Pineapple Fish Sambal and Beef Rendang too. However, the Sayur Lodeh, which is supposedly a mixed vegetable curry, only had cabbage, green beans & loads of carrots, and the curry was a quite flat in taste.
Dessert was the most underwhelming one. Had the Cucur Pisang (fried banana balls) and they were dry & doughy- wasn't a delight to sink our teeth into. The chocolate ganache wasn't really a ganache; tasted more like an artificial chocolate sauce.
Prices are premium and though overall it was a good night, the quality of some dishes needs to be improved in order to justify the prices we were paying.
Mango The Froot
Came here a few times but our last trip proved to be the worst. We made a booking and upon arrival, they said that our names were never in the list (I confirmed booking via phone call). Nevertheless, we got seated despite the crowd.

We ordered and around the half hour mark into ordering, we asked the waitress and they looked confused. She went to the kitchen and came back to inform us that they have lost our order and thus it was never put through ! She then re-took our order and assured us it will be here in a bit.

After more waiting the food arrived but I was given the wrong food, and so I notified them. And did a bit more waiting before I could indulge. So, as you can tell, service is terrible.

Whilst the food is decent, though not authentic enough, the price is quite exorbitant. The roti was so-so. The nasi lemak was just alright. The best part for my meal was perhaps the ayam sambal, which I have always had a weakness on. My boyfriend ordered the laksa, and it was perhaps the most expensive and tiniest bowl I have ever seen in Perth. He barely got full eating it. I informed the waitress of the size and how disappointed I was as it was categorised under 'great for sharing' or wtv, and it could barely feed one; and she said "oh but I feel full eating it though". Mind you she's a very petite girl and probably weighs like a child.

Overall, I would not come back because I kept getting disappointed and the prices are seriously unjustified. And seriously, $6 for rice ??
PerthBlueSky
Was hoping to taste some authentic Malaysian food, but was disappointed. Satays (beef and chicken), satay peanut sauce, pipi and kerabu salad were all quite bland and not well made. Beef rendang and chicken curry were tasty but nothing to shout about. Coconut rice lacked the creaminess and aroma of good nasi lemak.
Matty Boi
It was a real mixed emotion dinner with some positives and negatives to share. We turned up a ten mins before our booking which was no problem and got seated straight away. But took twenty minutes to get asked if we wanted drinks or ready to order which was a bit frustrating. I was craving a coke and we ordered some satay sticks a roti to stay with followed by a new gore get and lamb curry for mains. The roti came out first followed by the satay sticks ten mins later which wasn't a major issue but they forgot the Coke. And when the Coke came out it was 60 per cent ice and this was five bucks for what would of been half a can of Coke at max, photo below which is not all the ice. So recommendations ask for no ice if ordering a cool drink. The roti was really good no complaints and the satay tasted great but for ten bucks got three mini skewers which was quite funny. As we bought one chicken and one beef and this was highway robbery being twenty bucks as the skewers were so small, wish I took a photo (tasted great though). The mains came out after a lengthy time of 25-30 which is not the worst but finally they were some good servings which was really weird considering how small the satay was but the lamb curry was very nice with the bits of lamb not fatty at all. And the new goreng was fantastic. Overall I give a three. The food was a four but overall I have to give a three. This place has a lot of potential to be a great restaurant but just those little things need improving.

So recommendations. Order Coke with not ice, curries and mains are a lot more value for money and waive down a waiter to ensure you get served.

One last thing the rice is six bucks a serve which in my opinion is good enough for two so don't order two unless you eat a bucket load of rice.

Diane Dowdell
DO NOT COME HERE! the staff asked us to leave before we had finished our meal so they could give the table to another customer. When we asked for menus for dessert the waitress didn't want to give us menus. They then tried to have us all sit around one table so they could set the table up for someone else. When we complained they told us never to come back to the restaurant. I will happily oblige. The food wasn't even that good.
Sparkles
Ordered pipi clams (entree), chicken nyonya curry, nasi kunyik, papadum and teh tarik (hot drink) shared between two.

Service was great even though the place was understaffed. They did their best with what they had. With the pipi clams, about 10 were closed and so we asked for it to be sent back to the kitchen. The waiters readily helped and apologised. They asked if the dish was good the second time it came back and apologized again at the cashier.

Curry was amazing. Enough said.

Rice (nasi) could use more butter but maybe that is just me. I liked how it had small pieces of fruit and vegetables on the side. It was refreshing :)

Teh tarik. Can't go wrong with curry.

Papadum. Great, maybe not the best dish with curry. But still good.
@Foodieguide_lily
I've been here quite a lot! I originally came here at the invitation of the owners to try it on the house but have since been back many times and love to chat to the really lovely Malaysian couple Tania and Allen. I feel sorry for this place as it is constantly being criticised for being too spicy by westerners and not spicy enough by Malaysians. I think it's a great place to try Nalaysian food if you've not had it before, as they import authentic ingredients they can't get and play it a bit light on the excess chilli but give you the option of extra free sambal - so it's the best of both worlds!

I have tried several noodle dishes, roti, several curries, drinks and desserts - I loved it all although didn't really find their new addition of a breakfast menu to be my thing (mainly because it wasn't Malaysian). I liked the curries and roti the most, and the pandan rice. Although the glass noodle salad is bloody delicious too, the dressing is amazing even though I have no idea what is in it. The main test is that I never look for a salt or pepper shaker, or even the chilli sauce - and for a condiment obsessed foodie like myself that says a lot. It also has a lot of vego friendly options!

The setting is relaxed, airy and really nice for a catch up. I think if you stick to the traditional dishes you'll really enjoy it - and remember to ask for more sambal if you want it!

Chose to visit this place purely based on the photos on their Instagram account — food looked delicious! Having seen mixed reviews we tried not to set our expectations too high, but I'm happy to say our family of four were not disappointed in the slightest! Went there for Sunday lunch, and arrived to find the place quite busy. Staff were very polite and communicative, although I'd recommend they brush up on their knowledge of which items are gluten free. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Stand out dish was the rendang roti — the beef had a beautiful melt-in-the-mouth texture. We ordered three of the four desserts on the menu, but they were a bit disappointing.

great food, incredible staff. had the laksa, honestly the best I've ever had, so spicy! no complaints whatsoever. very well priced as well! have been recommending to everyone since.

Amazing! Food and service were both wonderful! Highly recommend the Assam fish curry and vegetable dahl. Only downside is that most dishes don't come with rice and at $6 per serve it gets a little pricey. However I would definitely come back.

Food was tasty and well priced. Had the nasi lemak. Nice atmosphere. Staff were attentive and friendly. Byo aswell at $4 a person. Deserves a higher rating on Zomato.

It was a lovely warm April night when we tried this place and the modern decor and ambience was inviting. I really enjoyed the Nasi Lamak, which is uniquely Malaysian and comes with coconut rice, roast peanuts, small fried anchovies, cucumber and boiled egg as garnishes which is then made all of a sudden meaningful with the special spicy sambal sauce. My fellow diners opted out of the house specialty and tried the more familiar Malaysian Laksa and noodle dishes, which they found unremarkable. "My plate was just sauce and noodles!", cried my sister. I loved my Nasi and if you wish to give this place a try, I recommend only the Nasi as the house specialty. A good night and I would come again.

Thursday night dinner with my sisters after a very busy, physically and mentally challenging day!
On arrival, we were seated at our reserved table without delay. Water and menus were brought promptly and orders taken in an orderly fashion. One of the things I have noted from this experience is that we were needing to prompt the staff a bit to cater for our needs. Not a big fuss but just something that I think is worth mentioning. They didn't seem to anticipate providing sharing plates or bowls for our rice and noodle dishes. They also didn't anticipate needing wine glasses for our byo wine ($4/glass).
The food was quite delicious; so that is a definite factor to return for.
Our entre was chicken satay for $10 (3 skewers). This came out quite promptly and was tender and accompanied by all the traditional trimmings of cucumber and onion.
Our mains swiftly followed but this is one of those points where we needed to prompt for some service.
The beef rendang was soft, tender and cooked to perfection. Accompanied by rice which had to be ordered in addition to the dish at $6/bowl (I think this is the most expensive bowl of rice I've ever ordered). The serving size for the rendang was a lot larger than we anticipated and we were extremely pleased with this.
The laksa nonya was interesting and tasty. Not to say it was not delicious but I think the other two dishes outshone this one. It had two types of noodles which is vermicelli and egg noodles which is perfect. Also the broth was flavourful and creamy. It had prawns and soft shell crab also cooked well and not soggy or anything.
The nasi lemak is of course their namesake dish and we chose this with sambal ikan (fried anchovies). As my sister described it had a slow burn, gradual hot heat to the dish which was divine. The flavours were all well balanced in this dish and delicious.
As we were also ordering a take away dish, the waitress was very proactive in returning to our table at the time the kitchen would be closing so that the final order could be put through. This ensured the food was freshly prepared and not soggy by the time we left. Thank you!!!!
Overall, being able to sit down, enjoy good food, good company, albeit slightly loud/echoey to hear each other speak... it was a well enjoyed night. 👍

Went there on Sunday night, made a booking for 6pm but I went early because I was super hungry that day. The waitress was very nice and got us a table. So customer service was GREAT

HOWEVER, The one thing that really disappointed me was the food, I ate a Beef Rendang with jasmine rice and had a Tim tam mock tail. When I got home I felt really sick, had a stomachache and I vomited.

Not too sure if the beef was too spicy for me or if the drink was off or whatnot but overall I felt sick after eating from there.

This place is a little gem! Situated on the corner of Stirling Hwy and Glyde St in Mosman Park, the Malaysian restaurant isn't hard to find. The ambience of the place is lovely and the fit-out is stylishly modern without being too over the top. I especially love the mural that is painted on the southern wall. The service was fantatsic, all staff are very friendly and greet each customer with a smile. But the best part is the food! We ordered the Chicken Nyonya Curry and Ayam Goreng. Both were excellent and really reminded us of being back in Malaysia. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves authentic Malaysian eats.
Little Aussie Epicurean
Was craving some nasi lemak so checked out the south Perth Nasi Lemak Korner. Ordered my Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang. Generous serving size and free refills of sambal as needed. A friend was warned by the staff that the Nasi Lemak with chicken is very spicy! Beef rendang was slightly drier then I prefer but all in all was a very pleasant night and hit the spot!

Came here for a meal on a Friday night and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was great, we had the Nasi Lemak with beef rendang and the Nasi Goreng. Both dishes were tasty, the beef was AMAZING! Really generous portions too.
Staff were great, really attentive and fun actually, there was one guy who was hilarious and really made our night. Will definitely come back

We stumbled upon this place whilst catching a movie in the cinema next door. Judging from its name it specializes in Nasi lemak. I had mine with ayam goreng which didn't quite impress me as it was dry. I also had the Teh Tarik which was unfortunately way too sweet.

Buzzy and with switched on and chilled staff fostering a great atmosphere. Shared a range of dishes including an excellent Nonya Chicken, Rendang, and Roti. Preston St is developing and Nasi Lemak Corner should be celebrated.

Came here on a rainy Thursday night for a friends birthday and it was packed! The chicken satay was a little too lemony, even the peanut sauce had lemony taste to it but at least the meat was chargrilled well.
Beef rendang was well done, with the meat the right texture.
Seafood fried rice was nice but a small serving for the price.
The nasi pandan tasted like it was just colouring and pandan essence.
Had the sago gula melaka for dessert. That was nice. Well textured sago.
Food was excellent with large portions for reasonable prices. Service was slow and poor. Drinks ordered weren't brought to the table but still added to the bill
Food Lover
Went there yesterday for a quick bite to eat. We ordered the beef rendang and the satay chicken. Both were very nice - no complaints. When we asked for rice we said to the waiter we would like rice for two. He said to get two portions of rice as one wouldn't be enough. We followed his guidance. When we paid at the counter I was surprised with the bill. $40 for a beef rendang, 1 enteee size satay and some rice. I knew the randang and satay was $28 so the rice was $12 for two people. That is close to extortion and I felt totally ripped off. No wonder the waiter suggested two portions of rice. Even though the food was nice, this left a really bad taste in my mouth. If it was just for the food it would have been a much higher rating - sorry.

Do not bother trying this place if you are craving for proper nasi lemak. They serve overpriced Nasi Lemak that will only appeal to local taste-buds. There is no hint of authenticity in the dishes served. The flavor of the sambal is too bland. The Rojak(Passembur), is the biggest failure of all with them altering the core ingredients to "posh" it up while ruining the flavor of the whole dish. Dishes were not served hot enough and the beef rendang was tough and dry. They should go back to basics and stop reinventing the classic dishes. I strongly suggest to spend your money elsewhere while they learn and rectify their mistakes.
Lara
Very friendly service, good atmosphere (can be a bit loud sometimes), absolutely amazing food in generous serves, also comparably very cheap. Have been here many many times and it's consistently fantastic. Malaysian cuisine varies so much, this is definitely the best in Perth. (From a Malaysian family).
Trent.savage
Without a doubt the best Malaysian in Perth. The beef rendang is amazing as is the nasi goreng. My partner is of Malaysian descent and loves it too. Everything is well priced. I can't believe it's rated so low, my suspicion is it must be competitors rating it down. Amazing value, check this place out!!!
Michelle
Came here for dinner for the first time on Thursday! Small and cosy little restaurant, the food was tasty and the service was good. I really liked the bihun, I think that was my favorite !! The clam was ok, and the nasi Lemak was just abit too spicy for me ! But I will definitely come back and try something else!!

In one sentence: Don't do it!!!!

Small, poky, extremely noisy - the poorly-designed menus near impossible to read in the dim lighting.
Had a reservation for two, got sat at an extremely noisy table and requested a move to a window seat by the pavement. Rude little man at the front desk acted like we had just asked for the constitution to be re-written!! - fabricated a story about needing it to join up for a large group that was coming - but 4 minutes later, he had given it to a couple who walked in without a reservation - And there was no sign of a group either - Not sure why he had to lie?

When the (12-year-old) waitress finally decided to take our order, we asked for two of the Nasi Lemak Sambal Ayam; she read it back correctly, but we were then given the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng instead.
What the hell, we figured, how different/bad can it be?
WRONG! It was like over-fried, hard strips of burnt schnitzel smothered in the harshest, most over-sweetened sambal we had ever tasted. And Ikan Bilis saltier than the Dead Sea. At least they got the boiled egg right. Easily the worst Nasi Lemak I have ever tasted and I'm not just comparing it with versions I've had in Singapore or KL, but it's also the worst available in Perth. Fortunately for them, the clientele they had on the night did not look like the sort who could tell a Nasi Lemak from a Spag Bol, so I guess they're probably safe.

I practically never leave food in my plate, however bad, but willingly made an exception today. When rude little man posed the empty question "How was the food?", he was actually not remotely interested in the answer. Instead got bristly and defensive and tried to walk away. We decide against dessert and got the hell out.

Give this place a miss - if it's Nasi Lemak you're after, go to Malaysian Dining Delights in Bentley or Pappa Rich in Northbridge.

A ruined evening.

We came here at 7:30pm for a reservation as I wanted to try it as it always seemed so busy! We decided to order their Nasi Lemak as it seemed to be their speciality, and some roti.

Entree- Beef Bone soup: This was just literally beef stock. There was nothing special about it. It was just potatoes, carrots and beef floating in beef stock with a piece of bread.

Main- Nasi Lemak with Rendang: This was just super salty, everything about it just needed about 50 glasses of water! The Rendang meat was soft however and the flavour was there.

Side- Egg and Sweet Onion Roti: The roti wasn't crispy, it tasted more like an omelette than roti, but I like omelettes, so I quite enjoyed this.

Dessert- Cucur Pisang: This was supposed to be banana fritters. It was actually deep fried banana cake which they covered in chocolate and caramel sauce and sprinkled in 100&1000s. The batter went all soggy from the sauce and icecream and the chocolate and caramel sauce tasted bottled.

Service was okay, however the food took 40 minutes to come out. The waitress also walked past us a couple of times when we were trying to flag her down. Not something I would eat at again, but worth trying.
The restaurant is in a good location and it has a nice decor. I ordered the Nasi Lemak. Chicken was unfortunately dry. The taste was very average and too expensive for the quality that you get. First and last time.

Went to this quaint restaurant as it was close by despite the range of reviews. We absolutely loved it!
The service was great and food came quickly. We had the beef rendang and mie goreng and both were to die for with massive servings.
Would definitely come again!

Visited for the first time today. I give 3 due to the waiting time between dishes. There were 4 of us, only 2 dishes came out first, the other 2 persons watching the others eating. By the time the remaining dishes came out, the two were already nearly finished. Also the portion was too little for the price.

Food is ok yet and got a nice vibe atmosphere. Not recommended for family dinner. The service was not professional enough. The way they handle the food is not kids friendly, served over the pram which was pretty dangerous. Last minute information related to how long we can sit in the restaurant is very dissapointing especially when you are about to order dessert. :(

I wanted to like this more, the decor and feel is lovely - dark wood, soft lighting, nice stemless wine glasses (it's BYO). The wayang kulit mural on the wall facing the old Cygnet cinema is clever and evocative. . . but the food, though it is photogenic and pleasant - tastes attenuated and seem very far removed from the food I wanted to eat.

On Tuesday my partner and I went out to Nasi Lemak Korner with an old colleague of mine and her boyfriend. I often use the Dimmi app to book a lot of my reservations and over a period of time, had accumulated enough points to get a $20 voucher which can be used a selected number of restaurants. Many of the restaurants you can choose from are fine dining restaurants so $20 probably won’t go a long way. However one of the options was Nasi Lemak Korner which is on the cheaper end of the spectrum. As you may or may not be able to tell from their name, Nasi Lemak Korner is a restaurant that offers Malaysian cuisine, one of the dishes being Nasi Lemak – a traditional dish comprising of coconut fragrant rice, fried anchovies, sambal (a chilli paste), egg and peanuts. At first glance of the menu, the dishes were more expensive than your typical Malaysian restaurants (I’m comparing this to other places such as Bamboo or The Rice Noodle House which also serves Nasi Lemak but for about $10ish). Here, Nasi Lemak costs $12 for a plain one and then it costs another $6 or so to add a side dish such as fried chicken, sambal chicken or beef rendang, which would bring the total up to about $17 or so. I really wanted to try the roti here but unfortunately it is only available on weekends. So devastated.

Love it, great food and maybe it's just me but I like the feel of the place. Will go back again soon but will bring a jumper was a bit on the cold side.

This small corner shop, appropriately named Nasi Lemak Corner, showcases a variety of contemporary Malaysian cuisines. This was also complemented by the contemporary interpretation of Malaysian artistry, whilst maintaining a level of simplicity. I tried their speciality dish, Nasi Lemak which was presented beautifully. From the first spoon, the taste had been inherently cultivated for the Western palate, with many of the striking and sharp flavours dulled down as to not overwhelm the senses. This can either be a positive or negative depending on how you like your food, but I personally prefer the original recipe. Prices are on the higher end, but you get a lot more than just good food.

We were booked for 1pm, got a phone call at 12.45 asking if we were still coming, um, yes, on our way. Got there 1pm, showed them email booking, but they had given our table away and we ended up squashed at in inside table. Sour cherry mock tail was awful, supposed to have lime zest but was chopped up peel which kept on getting stuck in straw. Menu very hard to read, bad colour and font choice. Sharing plate was ok, mostly deep fried items with salad and crunchy noodles. Rendang was nice but pulled out about 10 inedible curry leaves. Fish with spicey pineapple sauce was a huge disappointment. Sooooo chilli hot you could not taste the fish, only found 3 prices of pineapple too. Not sure what all the hype is about this place. $100 for 2, will not go back.

Nasi Lemak serve up lovely Malaysian dishes in a cosy, buzzing environment on Preston Street, Como. The service is always friendly and accommodating, and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant itself is always comfortable to sit in, and fills up quick. Come here for a wonderful cuisine experience, start to finish.
Monique
Food was lovely and so was service but beware Byo charge. $4 per glass. We opened our own wine snd poured it ourselves. That's a fair bit to plank some glasses on the table.
Nice cosy ambience for breakfast or lunch. We had Asam Laksa and Nasi Lemak Ayam. The fish based soup was ok, but would prefer to have belacan and dollops of heh ko/prawn paste (the dark paste on the spoon) adding in to the flavour. On the other hand, a big thumbs up for the Sambal served for the Nasi Lemak. Yes, I'd agree with other reviewers that the price is slightly high for Street food. Definitely would come back again, but more on occasionally basis.

Straight up - Nasi Lemak Korner is BYO only. They don't have any alcohol on the menu. Thankfully the Karralee is across the road and you can get supplies from there.

Secondly, parking is a bit of a nightmare. Meaning you could be driving around a bit if you're not a local and don't know the good spots.

And thirdly, either I'm getting really ancient but the menu is hard to read. It's this cursive thick don't that bleeds together.

Now those things are out of the way, onto the food. It's Malaysian street food thats far from dirty. It's full of flavour and doesn't leave you feeling greasy like some Asian restaurants in Perth do. But it's not cheap or heavy on the portion sizes like Malaysian street food.

We ordered the beef rendang, that had us coming back for more. The chicken nyonya curry, which was four decent pieces of chicken with potato and a good amount of sauce. The pasembur is a board of battered and fried soft shell crab and prawn on a mountain of salad with sambala on the side. The Nasi Goreng was filled with fish. The dhal was our least favourite and a little flavourless, but was a good offset from the hot rendang and sambala.

We were a table of six and told this was a good amount to share. And yes the number of dishes were right, but the portions are really small, we were cutting meat in half to make sure we could all have some. Instead I suggest you order two mains and double up on them so you get a good amount of each:

Trawling through Zomato this afternoon I was excited to find a nice sounding Malaysian place that is named after a traditional Malaysian dish Nasi Lamak and which happens to be one of my favourites. After spending three months in Malaysia, I have memories of eating Nasi Lama from Banana leaves for breakfast that we got from a local stall but really I could eat Nasi Lamak all day.

Came for a Saturday lunch. Very quick and friendly service.

Ordered the famous Nasi Lemak with chicken and beef rendang. Gotta say, disappointed with the chicken (although my 4yo loved it) but the rendang was delicious.

Would score higher if prices were lower, I feel like they're charging just a bit much for what is classically street food.

I wasn't impressed with this place. My wife was looking forward to try the Asam Laksa here, that's why we decided to swing by.

I've had asam laksa in malaysia several times so ive got some idea how it's supposed to be. I was disappointed to find the noodles had been cut to 1 inch lengths and was well over cooked. It had the texture of eating food for toddlers. There was a lack in flavour and it hadn't been seasoned enough.

The nasi lemak was quite expensive. The sambal and rice was nice but i found the chicken to be very dry.

I also didnt enjoy my ice Kopi C. I hope it wasn't an instant premixed preparation as ive bought one from the oriental supermarkets and have tasted better.

I wasn't content when settling the bill and on retrospect i would have had a better experience if i had visited a cheaper place. I hope these guys work on their menu and perhaps consider their pricing.

The positives is that they do provide good service and the ambience and seating are great. It wasnt loud and cramped like other malaysian places.

Overall, Sarawak hawker and lepak kopitiam are definitely a better alternative both price and authenticity. Perhaps ill try this place again in the future and update my review as necessary.
Mogan Rasa
Been to alot of Malaysian food joints and always important ingredients like sambal is served in good portions.
Here the sambal quantity was pathetic. Curry in curry mee has to be well above or at least the level of the mee. Here served on 1/3 the level of mee. Roti canai always comes with good amount of dhal but again pathetic amount and had to use curry mee sauce to dip.
Not worth the time going there and for the price.
Wont complain about the price if quantity was sufficient.
Kuchi Kuchi
Not the best nasi lemak I've ever tasted. Also ordered mie goreng, very very salty, staff was kind enuf to offer for a new mie goreng which turned up still not delicious. Def NOT going there again.

Been looking forward to trying here for a while so a little bit worried to read the negative reviews prior to going.
Well they couldn't be more wrong. This place was great, food delicious.
Satay sticks were exactly like the ones we had in Penang though $10 for 3 is a little on the upper side.
The nonya chicken curry was come back for more delicious! Coconut rice was the perfect accompaniment.
I am extremely glad we came on the weekend and could order the roti, best I've had in Perth and as good as Malaysia, $9 for 2 a little over priced.
We will definitely come back, service attentive, food amazing favour and great serve size. I would have given the 5/5 if the price was a little less.

Been here 3 times now and each experience is different, which explains the mid range rating and varied reviews here. Nasi Lemak on all occasions was substandard, with inconsistent flavours. Also tried many other dishes - flavours are just ok (or safe?), and meats are occasionally tough. It just misses the mark on authenticity and some dishes could be more generous for the price. Service was pleasant each time.

Well you all must have caught them on a bad day, or we got lucky. We were headed elsewhere but saw this and thought we should try to get a table. It's always a good sign when a place is packed. The friendly waitress found us a table and we had menus inn moments and entrees in minutes!! Fantastic service all evening actually, with a special mention to Tony for help with the dessert selection. Getting ahead of myself ...
We had tuna patties and a calamari salad for entree, with nasi goreng and beef rendang for mains, washed down with lemon lime and bitters and followed by sago with brownie and panacotta and ice cream. All the food was fresh, flavoursome, beautifully presented and served quickly. I highly recommend you try this little gem of a place.

Food was alright. Service was appalling. Despite making a reservation two days in advance, they told us that we'd have to move tables 1 hour into our meal. However, the second table we were promised ended up being occupied by another party.

The way we were spoken to (being asked to finish our meal and leave) was appalling. Despite calling them out on the rudeness, all we got were shrugs.

Such a shame, if only the service was as good as the food.

Mixed reviews about this place. Arrived and already a bit disappointed with the service, seems a bit lacking with feeling welcome. Since it took us a long time to finally eat here because for some reason, it's always fully booked - we ate alot. Started with their Teh Tarik and Kopi Ais. Good teh tarik, but the kopi tasted like plastic, was awful. Foodwise we ordered Chicken Satay, Bihun Goreng, Sambal Ayam Nasi Lemak and Roti Canai. The satay was tender, but meat wasn't marinated enough and the sauce lacked enough kick from the peanut and spice. The bihun (rice noodles) were fried well, but had a weird fishy smell as if the seafood used wasn't fresh - spoiled the taste. The roti was too thick and doughy, not buttery, light and flaky. The nasi lemak was decent though, good chilli level, chicken well cooked and juicy, rice pleasantly fragrant. For dessert we had the Durian Strudel - good durian flavour but the pastry was way too hard. Overall wasn't too impressed.
Matt
Been here twice a year apart and was disappointed twice. We had the cucuk Udang, sambal sotong and chicken nasi lemak, three layer tea and the kopi Tarik. The only nice thing about the food we ordered is the sambal, the rest is bland, boring, expensive and somewhat weird (especially the kopi, tasted plastic)

I don't know why the rating is so low!
It's much better than 2.6/5 :O
I think the food was very good. Particularly enjoyed the entree tasting plate. Great value if sharing with 2 people as you get a piece of almost everything on the entree menu. And it was all very yummy.
The chicken curry was good but I will admit I'm no expert on curries and am always limited on options because I don't like spice. Pandan rice was something different and I really like it (albeit $6 for a serve is too much I think).
The most interesting thing was the Black Glutinous Rice Cake - it literally had shaved cheese on top of the cake! Was bizarre! But I still like it. Not the usual super sweet dessert that I normally get - the cake was dense and pretty moist but not very sweet.

I think the decor is cool but it's chilly in winter. Also the tiny tables for 2 are too small! I also had a plant in my face and nowhere to put my jacket...
The staff were very nice though, no complaints on service.
Foodie In Paradise
Came to this restaurant with high expectation since it was recommended by few friends. We were really looking forward to have our dinner here but left feeling slightly disappointed.
We ordered the beef rendang and sambal ayam to share. We were planning to order some roti to go with the beef rendang but was told there were only available on weekend. The beef rendang was very tasty but the sambal ayam was just okay. Both the dishes came warm-ish but not hot. We also had the nasi jasmine and nasi pandan. Nasi pandan was flavorsome and fluffy. Personally I think it was a bit overpriced, $6 for a bowl of rice. The biggest let down was the durian strudel with ice cream which consisted of 95% of puff pastry and 5% of durian. I felt like I'm just eating the puff pastry really since there only have a tiny smear of durian in between the pastry. Teh Tarik was great though.
Overall, love the atmosphere and the friendly service of this restaurant.

Love the menu at Nasi Lemak - great range of foods and flavours, something to please every one. The store is super busy, so definitely recommend making a booking beforehand. Will definitely be coming back to try more items on the menu.

Recommended by a friend from Curtin Uni. So went there to try out with a few friends. Firstly the service was excellent. We ordered Beef rendang, Nasi lemak and chicken curry. They were all very tasty. At first we were a bit surprised with the price but at the end we were all happy. Will definitely go back to try put other dishes.

Service is good. Food is food but just a bit small portion. The atmosphere is very romantics. Asam laksa is very spicy. Nasi lemak is very nice.

Came on a weekday night and was asked if we have made any table reservation. Luckily we came in early, as after 10-15 mins it was packed with people.

Nasi lemak was awesome and authentic; mee goreng wasn't that tasty though. I would recommend to try the Assam curry fish as it is quite tasty and coconut milk-ish. :)

Everything, including the customer service, was fantastic but it's way too pricey. :$

Loved the place. Great food presented very well. Service was great. Had a chat with the owner and felt they are passionate about what they are doing and want people to eat good food and go home happy. Will go back for sure.
Food_Glorious_Food
Tried this restaurant on a whim and was not overly impressed. Dishes were definitely not authentic and at times downright bland. Staff were very friendly but ultimately if the quality of the food is not up to scratch, nothing can compensate. Won't be back.

Yum yum yum! Visited this place on a Sunday arvo for lunch... Busy but staff were great and food was out quick! Nasi goreng was so delish! As much sambal as you want, which is also super yummy! We tired the roti canai, not as good as the roti canai from papa rich, but the Dahl was very tasty! Can't wait to go back and take friends!
Sandra Lam
A girlfriend and I ate here the other night (tues) and we were very happy with both the food and the service. The staff were happy and attentive which always helps. We ordered a tasting plate as well as the special meal which was an Assam laksa which came with a drink. They even halved the drink for us because they knew we were sharing it. It was the first time I was there and I'll be back. My friend has been there before and recommended it. I just can't work out how this place hasn't scored higher than a 3.
Ami
Nasi Lemak was good, quite possibly the second best I've had in Perth, I requested extra sambal which was not provided, and received a quoted price over the phone for my takeaway which was different to the price when I got to the restaurant - they have a public holiday surcharge which hadn't been factored in over the phone. No apologies for the price difference. Apart from that appear to be friendly, pleasant staff. Good quality food.
J Smith
I'm surprised this place isn't rated a 3 at the very least. The nasi lemak beef rendang and mee goreng were good and generous servings. Beef was tender and sauce was flavourful, mee goreng was more on the sweet side than I'd prefer but still good and they had no problems giving me more sambal sauce for more of a kick. Teh tarik was spot on! The service was welcoming and very attentive. I think the reason it is not rated higher is the price. It was $18 for the meals which is not what you'd expect from a Malaysian local place although this isn't a ma and pa takeaway place. It's nicely decorated, great service, Como area (probably high rent), BYO, made to dine in kinda place so keeping that in mind I think the price is justified. Merely buying take away then the price would be considered steep.
Yolanda Aung Francis
Worst service I've ever had. Bought out 2 out of 3 meals and even after we've finished eating the third person still haven't received theirs. Waiters didn't act apologetic and chatted behind the bar and when we asked for the food told us to wait longer. Ended up leaving with the third person never receiving their meal and having to not eat lunch. Really appalling. Over priced and shocking service.
Wing Ho
Utterly unimpressed and disappointed with the service. 5 of us in the restaurant, got my husband's order mixed up and forgot my order. No apologies were given and staffs were just standing around chit-chatting. Would not be back at all. Food was alright, price was on the expensive side. All hype but no substance.
Hippokathy88
Came here for lunch with 2 of my friends yesterday and that would be the last time I come here. Let's start with the positives, the service received from the 2 waitresses was absolutely top-notched, they were attentive and friendly but we wish the food was half as good as the service. For entrees we ordered beef bone broth, tuna cutlets and pipi clams to share. The beef bone broth smelled good when it came to the table but that's just the aromatics, the broth lacked depth of flavour and it just tasted wishy washy. The tuna cutlets should have been called fish cake because it was exactly what it was, it was like tuna paste mixed in with some weird potatoey texture, wasn't our favourite. The pipi clams were problem the only good dish of the day, the broth was flavoursome, although once again a bit watery. For mains we got asam laksa, nasi lemak with ayam goreng and daging masak kicap. The asam laksa was far from authentic, it wasn't sour enough, wasn't fishy enough and it looked like they used tin pineapple instead of fresh ones so it was super sweet. The rice in nasi lemak had a good flavour but not dry enough, there wasn't enough sambal on the plate and the ayam goreng was wayyyyy over-cooked. The beef dish wasn't too good either, again smelled great but lacked depth of flavour. For desserts we ordered durian strudel, green tea tiramisu and panda panna cotta. The best dessert was probably the durian strudel, but we liked it because there was real durian in there, not for any other reasons. The tiramisu was so dense it was more like a badly made mousse, green tea flavour was minimal, just not enjoyable. It was put in a glass so all the layers were squished down and did not look great. The worst dish of the day was definitely that panna cotta, it was dense and grainy, NOTHING a good panna cotta should be. Our drinks, teh tarik and green tea infused mocktail were nothing special either. The waitress warned me about the sourness of the asam in the mocktail but I couldn't even taste it. The teh tarik tasted like watered down milk tea. Needless to say we were immensely disappointed with the food. It is insulting for diners as well because obviously people who have not had authentic Malaysian food would have thought this was the standard for Malaysian food, judging from the positive reviews online. They have no idea. This place makes PappaRich look good.

Over all, I was sufficiently impressed by the quality of food at Nasi Lemak Korner and that made me wonder; why is the rating for Nasi Lemak Korner so low on Zomato? Sure the price range was not the cheapest and neither was it easy to get a table, but the food was sufficiently satisfying!
Nicole Tissott
I am only rating 3.5 as I haven't dined in yet. My friend picked up some takeaway. We had beef rendang which was amazing. Melt in your mouth meat, wonderful sauce and flavour and a pretty generous serving although I am not sure how much we paid. Next was the Assam Fish Curry with tamarind sauce. Unfortunately we all found it a bit fishy. We tried some rice cooked in pandan leaves which was lovely and an $8 side salad that was super cooling and refreshing and good value for the price. Look forward to dining in and trying the nasi lemak. Will definitely reorder the rending, pandan rice and salad.
Peasant From Perth
My boyfriend made me go here, I was pretty optimistic.... Boy I was wrong.

All decent seats were reserved... There were only a few tables taken and the rest was empty. We had to wait for a couple to finish eating to take their seats, which were awkward and uncomfortable. Thought maybe the food was going to be decent but yeah it wasn't. Couldn't finish my meal because I hated every bite.

Lovely place. Good food and generous servings. Good atmosphere too. Bustling with chit chat in a good way. Service still good despite being very busy. Impressive.
CS CHUA
Customer service is excellent. Food wise, I prefer the Mee Goreng rather than Nasi Lemak. Even though signature dish should be Nasi Lemak. Huge portion of food, maybe comparing to the price, it's reasonable. Nasi Lemak have to be improved :)
LittleMiss
Was looking forward to giving this place a shot but just walked away really unsatisfied. It's far from authentic Malaysian imo, yes prices are a little steep as well. Service was a good attempt, all were friendly but I just had to keep checking up on the food, tables are small and most chairs lacking backrests...tisu had an apparent bitter taste masked by the condensed milk. Canai was a good attempt but hit and miss...ours came out with the dough looking slightly raw however the next table it looked golden and crispy...however it was quite busy so good on them - not my cuppa hawker tea :)
Veevee
Good, affordable meal for the family. The bill came to $57 and five of us were fed for that price; we ordered two mains with rice and two entrees to share. The beef rendang was tasty, although I found a few pieces were gristley and it could have been spicier but as I said it was tasty enough. The vege spring roles were nothing fab, likewise with the prawn fritters. The vege noodle dish was tasty. Would like to return to try the roti which is only available on the weekends.
Joe
We really wanted to like this place, but just can't let go the fact that the price is so steep for typical malaysian hawker food. We always end up somewhere else cheaper and the food is just as good when we crave malaysian food. Struggling to justify why we should go back.

But apart from that, food tasted good. We had the nasi lemak with rendang and curry chicken. Service was attentove too.
Queen Of Bad Timing
When there’s fried chicken on a menu, nine times out of ten you know I’m going to order it. My choice of the traditional nasi lemak ($12.00) with ayam goreng ($4.00) was easy to make, the chicken marinated in a mix of fragrant spices, then deep fried calling my name.

I thought that the base nasi lemak offering was relatively decent. The coconut rice was on the wetter side, but that’s very much how I like my rice while my dining companion said they like it drier. There was a good amount of coconut flavour, and the ikan bilis (dried anchovies) were freshly fried and utterly delicious.

The fried chicken was definitely moist and juicy, the colouring spot on to great ayam goreng I’ve had in Malaysia and Singapore. I did find the actual level of spices used was a bit more mellow than I’d expected, so would have loved that dialled up a bit more.
Fusian Palette
We ordered Nasi Lemak with fried chicken and noodle goreng. Fried chicken was over cooked. What I meant is it's already fried and re fried when served to customer which resulted in a dark texture and dry too. Fried noodle stirfry sauce was too sweet. Less is more guys. Sorry but your drinks was too sweet.

Dine 2nd time oct 16- Went back again 5 months later and my opinion doesn't change. We order Nasi lemak ayam goreng and curry fish. It was just dry and too sweet. Won't be back.
BS
Nasi Lemak that lives up to the name. Beef rendang that's melts in your mouth with a very rich gravy, much better than the franchise Malay that's popping up all over Perth. Salad was to die for really helps cut through the spice and richness of the Nasi Lemak and beef rendang. Only let down was the Roti Canai which wasn't very fluffy but quite buttery, also didn't come with Sambal
Foodrinkperth
One of the best Malaysian cafe/restaurants we have dined at in Perth. Food really great with that home cooked taste. Presentation spot on as was the service, efficient and friendly! The entrees were a little on the small size however the beef murtabak and curries well portioned. The rendang was perfectly spiced - always a good curry to compare - this was exceptional! Definitely happy to return to this well priced neighbourhood gem!

A LITTLE GEM
Visited(for the first time) on a recent Saturday for lunch. Booked online. We received a friendly welcome & ushered to our reserved table. Great ambience & setup. The food was excellent, a good example of Malaysian "street food". A good balance of spicy & tasty. Ordered Satay Chicken & Chilli Beef Noodle Salad as entrees. Beef Randang(the best) & Mee Goreng Mamak for mains. No desert, no room! The down side, the price of sparkling water at $7.00/bottle. However, we'll be back.

The second time I've been here and it was actually better than the first 👏🏻👏🏻 We ordered nasi lemak with rendang curry and mee goreng mamak. Both were really good👌🏻👌🏻 I ordered a three layer milk tea and it was also good🍹The only thing I didn't like was the mocktail. It was so icey and watery, with not a very strong flavour. The service is very friendly and efficient. The design inside is good, although it gets very noisy and difficult to hear each other. Would return in the future 💯
Shrinal Patel Kalita
A tiny Malaysian eatery hidden in como which serves a tasty authentic Malaysian cuisine. I had a cold teh Tarik which is a tea with condensed milk. I loved it. For dinner we had the fish Assam (fish curry and lady finger), roti canai (flaky flat bread with dal and sambal) chicken nyonya curry, turmeric rice and coconut rice. We had a durian strudel and a brown sugar sago pudding in coconut milk for dessert. 7star and hi5 cuisine and service. Absolute warm ambiance and by far the best authentic Malaysian taste
T-M@c
The overall experience was average. We had the Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng and the beef rendang with roti. The highlight was definitely the Mee goreng, sweet and spicy and no stodgy. The rendang lacked something but the roti was nice. The Nasi Lemak was above average.
Anna
We went to Nasi Lemak for dinner tonight, it was our 4th visit to the restaurant and by far the worst. We normally go during the week but thought it might be nice to go on a weekend with our friends to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary.
The service was very average, We had been there for a good 3 quarters of an hour and no one had even bothered to see how we were going or to even attempt to take an order. We actually had to get up and ask if someone could take our order. Service didn't improve......3 of our entrees arrived and we had to ask for the 4th one, after 3 of us had already finished eating ours. When it arrived it was the wrong item and we had to wait even longer for the correct one to arrive.
The food was not as good as normal, however still ok.
It was hot inside the restaurant so I don't recommend you go on too warm a night......or though the weather tonight was not too hot.
Our bill at the end of the night was incorrect and they tried to charge us for things we didn't actually have. I suggest you check your bill thoroughly.
Unfortunately I hate to say we probably will not return to this quaint little restaurant again. Service is something that cannot afford to slip these days as there is always other options......I think they need a better manager watching over the staff.

My family ordered Nasi Goreng Chicken, Satay (Beef), Traditional Nasi lemak, Nasi Lemak with Sambal Sotong, Murtabak Daging and Durian Strudel as desserts. The food were delicious and we love the friendly staffs too.
Cam's Corner
Went here for dinner last night, first time for me and second for the Mrs. When you walk in you are captured by the modern newly renovated establishment with nice looking furniture but not very practical for a table of 2.... I was trying not to knock anything off the tiny table all night. We ordered the spring rolls, prawn fritters, 2 x nasi lemak 1 beef rendang & 1 sambal udang prawns.

Spring rolls were well spring rolls... Nothing special about them. The prawn fritters were nice and a good sized portion. The beef rendang was a great sized meal and the beef was slow cooked well breaking apart. The only down fall was the prawns in the second nasi lemak, it only came with 3 medium sized prawn!! The dish was very nice but only receiving 3 prawns for a $18 dish was a let down, the response from the waiter was it's normal because they are more expensive... Fair enough, bump it $2 and add a couple more.

We had a nice night with good service and the meals came out quickly however we won't be rushing back as there is too much good competition in the area.

Was very excited that a nasi lemak place has opened up in Perth. Nasi Lemak was ok, roti telur and roti canai was good too. However I was really disappointed in the service. It took 30 minutes for the roti canai to come out and by then we had already finished our other meals.

First impression of this place was the ambience..good lighting and nice decor. Ordered satay beef, Nasi Lemak with beef rendang, Ayam Goreng (breast) and dessert. The food was well presented but food was not impressive. I think many elements were quite salty and imbalanced. The sambal was too sweet for my liking. Moreover, the Ayam Goreng (fried chicken) smelled odd like sour or fermented unlike battered chickens I had many times in my life. Well, now comes to the time I sticked my spoon on the chicken, the meat fell apart (broken) which absolutely should not have been on a piece of big breast! When I chewed it was as if I ate flour mixed with water. I didn't feel like I was eating chicken at all. I told staff to tell the kitchen about that, she came back and said the chef said that how they do..by precooking the chicken in advance then put in the oven when order came. I have to confess that was the worst piece of chicken in my life. However, I told that staff I don't want to eat anymore so please get rid off it (whole piece of the breast). The safe dishes of this experience were coconut rice and the sago pudding which I can come back for anytime.

Really nice venue for a authentic Malaysian eatery. Obviously, ordered the Nasi Lemak - and had both the Chicken and the Rendang. There wasn't enough Sambal on the dish, however the staff were obliging in bringing more when asked. The dish itself was fairly standard, nothing horrible but nothing spectacular either. As others have mentioned, there are many other places in Perth that serve better Nasi Lemak for cheaper. Roti was ok too. Will consider coming back, but not in a rush.

I think I came here with high expectations thinking that I could eat a delicious reminder of the food that I ate whilst on holiday, so I may have been a little biased. I ordered the beef rendang and whilst the beef was really soft and melted in your mouth the sauce mainly tasted of chilli whereas I was expecting it to be a bit more of a mix between chilli, ginger and coconut. However the rotis, I ordered the roti canai (the classic one) and the roti bom (a crispy sweet one drizzled with something sweet) and both were very good. We had to wait only a short time for the food but the wait staff seemed very concerned and kept apologising which showed they care.

I've heard from a friend that there's a good nasi lemak in town so I went there on a Sunday lunch to give it a try. Surprisingly the staffs were really friendly & the service was quick. I was having their signature nasi lemak, it's super tasty! Definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurant here in Perth :)
Jon
I was expecting authentic Malaysian/Singaporean food, the food was sub standard, and the menu was small. The place is nicely presented but my first impression when entering was it does not felt it was a Malaysian restaurant. I order a Mee Reebus tasted average, unnecessarily garnish which is hard to swallow, I though I ate something sharp down my throat. Price of food I thought is was pricey when you can get better food from the hawkers. I thing there were trying to promoted a med/high end restaurant but it wont help if there uses "plastic" glasses for drinks.
Dining Queen
I've tried most of the Malay restaurants in Perth and being brought up in a Malay country most of my life, I can safely say this place is way too overpriced for what you get. We came as a table of eight on Australia Day and got a cramped table outside. No place to move, no fan, worst service. They didn't have one waiter per table so when you'd place a order with one, another would come and ask you the same thing. I couldn't get hold of waiters to order more food and drinks so had to walk to the cashier myself. When I asked why three bowls of extra rice have taken 15 mins to come out when they know our curries are getting cold, the waiter became rude and the manager had to intervene and apologize. The lychee mocktail was incredibly bland and so was the teh Tarik and milo drink. The only curry worthwhile buying there is the beef rendang. Chicken satay were dry and the nyonya chicken was so basic. We paid over $250 for 3 curries, 2 starters, 8 rice and 7 drinks. Biggest rip off ever. I can get even better quality food from Malaysian delights or thornlie food square!

Came here for dinner. Awesome authentic Malaysian food. Definitely recommend it if you're craving Malaysian food. Ordered the Nasi Lemak and the Nasi Goreng with the milo dessert. Definitely worth a try
Food Is My Middle Name
The nasi lemak wasn't as I expected. Not authentic. Extremely overpriced for nasi lemak. There are other cheaper and much better nasi lemak. Service was good though.

One of the worst dining experiences we've had. Dined here on Saturday for lunch and waited more than 1 hour and 10 mins to be served. It was just 2 of us and we ordered nasi lemak (sambal ayam) and roti telur - two of the simplest meals on their menu! Repeatedly checked with wait staff about where the food was at but kept being told it'll be another 5 mins. NO ONE CARED. Requested to speak to the owner when we realised 6 other tables (including one of 10 people!) had all been served before us. The wait staff then brought our dessert out - durian strudel which started melting, even before mains were served! After our lunch was finally served, owner came over and started with a joke about how the delay was because we were dark skinned?! He thought he was hilarious. He then apologised and said he's going to investigate the issue and it should not have happened. Through the wait, there was no effort made with extra drinks or even some pappadoms. There was not a cent taken off the bill either. The food was exorbitantly priced and really quite average. I just can't understand how they got such a glowing review from Urban List which makes me question Urban's picks! Please visit them if you have money to throw, like racist jokes and love waiting around for hours for your food to be served.
Mr Butterbeer
Average food. Only major complaint is, their chilli paste (Sambal) for their Nasi Lemak is lacking in level of spice. Hence, lacking authenticity.
Emily Phillimore
Excellent Malaysian food!! Big portions, the roti was incredible and flaky and perfect so definitely go on a weekend when they serve it :) Beef noodle salad entree was also great, and easily big enough for a main.
Ken
Price wise its on the high side but considering the setting and environment it is reasonable.

Food and drinks are good but you can get the same deliciousness at spice express myaree and rasa sayang cafe thornlie.

Overall quite satisfied.
Empyreaness
Very impressed overall with Nasi Lemak for dinner tonight, we were just driving through the area looking for somewhere to eat and as both my husband and I are fans of Malaysian food we decided to give this place a go.
The place was rather empty but were told on arrival they were fully booked but still managed to find a suitable (for heavily pregnant woman) table for us.
The male waiter who seated us and took our order was just lovely!

We ordered a serve of Roti Canai, beef mutabuk and nasi lamak with beef rendang.
The roti was some of the nicest I have had in Perth, the right balance of chewiness and cruchiness, my only disappointment was that it was served with dhal rather than mutton or chicken curry sauce and the serving was a little small.
The murtabak was as expected and very tasty, enjoyed the red onion accompaniment, however I was envious of my husbands nasi Lemak.
The nasi Lemak was really nice with spicy and flavoursome sambal, crunchy nuts and anchovies and usual rice. The beef rendang was really the star of the dish with its strong coconut curry flavour and right amount of spice. I wish I'd ordered this!

Yes the cost of the meals were a little exorbitant for Malaysian cuisine, but its definitely the service, ambience and food quality you are paying for. There are cheaper places around but you will sit on a plastic chair, with cheap dinnerware and order at a counter, just a different dining experience.
Also wish this place was licenced (for when I'm not pregnant and we return) as a nice cold tiger beer would perfectly accompany the meal.
Ali Ahmad
Not bad Malaysian cuisines especially the beef rendang. Very disappointed with the satays. 3 sticks for $10.00 is a bit pricey and do taste authentic.
Chester Tham
Exorbitant.
Average standard. Paid $2 for better quality.
Nicely furnished but does not justify the price.
Service below average.
Nice area. May be worthwhile if you like South Perth and are craving Nasi Lemak.
Samantha Samuels
The food was authentic and delicious, the waiters were fun and very attentive and the restaurant itself was beautifully set up. We will most definitely be going back for more!
Maxine
Great food! The curries are great. I love the BYO. Great atmosphere. Good authentic Malay food at a great price. Very affordable. Staff are also very friendly

Visited Nasi Lemak Korner on 28 Dec.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated immediately without reservation by a smiling waitress. Water was served quickly and menus were given.
Ordered the following:
Roti chanai ($9) with chicken curry ($6)
Score 6/10
Two small rotis served with dhal, sambal was inadequately put on top of dhal. Chicken curry was too diluted, lacked flavour. However chicken was succulent and well cooked. Portion size was limited for a main.
Murtabak ayam with dhal and soya drink ($19) special of the day
Score 5/10
Very small portion size for $19. Soya drink lacked flavour with ice cubes.
Due to the small portion sizes we were still hungry and ordered Nasi Lemak ($12) with sambal ayam ($5).
Score 7/10
Sambal ayam was very spicy mostly chillies burning the guts at night. The dried fish and nuts were crunchy and good. Sambal was spicy with good lemongrass fragrance. Rice had a good coconut fragrance.
Total $59 (including $7 public holiday surcharge).
Service was courteous and excellent!
Food was alright.
Ambience was good but tables too close to each other.
Overall 3 out of 5.
Had the traditional nasi lemak w/ Ayam sambal (good, mildly spicy - the sambal on the chicken is better than the one accompanied with the dish) & Ayam goreng (my sis liked it but I thought it was plain & average), the telur 10 (which is roti canai w/ egg - not awful but not WOW); the sauce is a dahl type sauce w/ sambal - THAT wasn't enjoyable) and the ice milo (I bet YOU can do a better one at home).

Nice ambience, fast service and lovely staff. The food however is disappointing. Yes it is tasty but definitely not the best. We ordered the durian strudel for dessert but the pastry is not fluffy. It is also pricey for the quality of the food.
Cassie
Ordered the nasi lemak with beef rendang. The food was presented nicely. Nasi lemak was nice, but not the greatest. Beef rendang was tender, but flavour wise I've had better. It was a rather expensive plate of nasi lemak and you can get better nasi lemak for cheaper elsewhere.

I came here with four other colleagues for Friday lunch and left with very mixed feelings about this place. Food was ok but beautifully presented, and the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. However, we waited approximately 50 mins for our food and noticed some people got their food earlier than us even though they were seated after us. Everyone ordered nasi lemak but the difference was that three people ordered nasi lemak with beef rendang and the other two ordered nasi lemak with prawns (myself included). Now between the nasi lemak rendang and nasi lemak with prawns, we had to wait another 30 mins, and there only three prawns with the nasi lemak. Understandably, the restaurant was full but the wait was very unreasonable given the food we ordered. Will only recommend this place if you have a lot of time to while away and don't mind paying extra for the ambiance.
Crazy Cat Lady
Deffinantly not impressed by the food here although the decor is nice.

I ordered a Nasi lemak with beef rendeng, I've had much better Nasi lemak before and the beef rendeng was really spicy. Although it was still edible I've ordered so many rendeng in my life but I was lost by how spicy this is one was. Plus for $18 it's really over priced

We ordered one of their best sellers which was the battered soft shell crab and prawn dish. The meat was all completely soggy and the flavour itself wasn't great.

Chicken satay was over cooked and didnt really taste all that fantastic.

It was a cold winter night at the time so I ordered a nice warm teh tarik and was served with a luke warm drink.

We went in a table of 5 and none of us really enjoyed our meal so we passed on dessert and we would probably never come back again.

High prices, below average food.
Hiyo
Every westernised Malaysian restaurant I've been too lately has been very disappointing recently. I ordered the chicken fried rice ($14) and it was horrible and taste really bad. Not going to bother and come back to try the nasi lemak I guess.
Stan Max
The food is just normal as nothing special about it compare to other restaurant nasi lemak. As the food is not as traditional as it sounds. The place is quite spacious and the service is pretty good. On the downside, I ordered an additional order, but it never came. Overall dining experience is average. Value for money is 6/10.

Decided to go Nasi Lemak Korner for a quick dinner before exams tomorrow. Thought that it would be a quick dinner, but waiting time was approx 45mins when there is not much crowd. The time I spent there eating(25mins) was shorter than the wait. Finished my Teh Tarik even before my food arrived. Such a disappointment.

My partner ordered the Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng(fried chicken),the chicken was a bit too salty, probably too much spices added. My Nasi Lemak with Sambal Ayam was not too bad tho. I believe the waiting could be so much shorter,as most of the ingredients are ready made for Nasi Lemak.

The Teh Tarik standard/taste varies every time I visit there. Sometimes too thick, sometimes too sweet.

Not advisable to go there if you're in a rush.

This isn’t my normal kind of lunch destination – we were originally supposed to go to Gami! – but my friend Vada had a meeting to get to so we agreed to meet closer to her office and Nasi Lemak Korner in South Perth was her choice. I chose the nasi lemak with sambal ayam (chicken cooked in a “tasty spicy gravy” served with coconut flavoured rice, egg, fried peanuts and anchovies) which I found to be pleasant, the chicken had a reasonable amount of heat but was a little dry in places. Certainly a decently sized serving.

The food tasted great and is very loyal to its Malay roots. The service is great and the food is very reasonably priced! We will be going back

From a Malaysian's point of view , the food tasted average but it is definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurant here in Perth ! I tasted the mee goreng, they were really generous with the ingredients and the prawn was fresh !
Jacky Hook
The worst mee goreng I ever had in Perth. We order two and the wait staff served 1 instead of two. My friend almost finish his noodle while I'm still waiting. Taste was just ok, but portion very small and u only found one piece of prawn inside, with couple of taufu and eggs. Such a simple dishes charge for $14. Never go back again.
Sammi
Came here today for the first time. We tried the traditional nasi lemak, mee goreng mamak and chicken satay. Unfortunately the satay was a lil disappointing but the other two dishes were tasty! Can't wait to try their beef rendang next time!

Pricing was a lil to the expensive side :/

Found this gem! Awesome nasi lemak, perfect sambal and reasonably priced. Ambience is great and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Definitely making this place a regular to satisfy my Malaysian cravings!

Malaysian say SHIOK NYA!! Amazing authentic nasi lemak. Beef rendang is tender and dissolves in your mouth. The sambal is Perfect.

Service is wonderful, helpful and friendly.

Calling all Malaysian's in Perth. This is the nasi lemak joint you have been dreaming about.
Great little place; very humble decor and yet it looks really cool, it makes me feel so welcome. I ordered the Nasi Lemak with beef rendang. What can I say??!!!! The beef is so tender and tasty, the rice has mild coconut flavour, the sambal is just right. I really want to order other dishes but I have to wait for my next visit. As for dessert, i must have the durian strudel. OMG!!!! Very nicely done! I am not a fan of durian but this is something that I will order again during my next visit (soon).
Angel Sentosa
Ordered the beef rendang & nasi santan. It's really good and tasty! We also ordered the durian struddle and sago melaka for dessert. Not a big fan of durian but the sago melaka is very yummy. A heart-warming meal for a cold night :)

I was craving for Nasi Lemak for weeks! The Nasi Lemak was good, the peanuts and ikan bilis could have been better though. What I was pleasantly surprised about was the fact that all the chicken pieces we got were boneless 👍🏼 Value wise, I feel their stuff is a bit pricey, but craving well and truly satisfied.

Jyst grabbed takaway lemak and beef rendang. Rendan was possibly best uve had and pretty darn spicy. Good overall but pricing bit steep.hopefully this will get a few anglo people exposed to this great cuisine
Zoo
Food and ambience not bad. But overpriced, $12 for a plain nasi lemak?

I would come here more often if their price are reasonable. They are pricier than paparich !
Wish they have more choices too
If you don't have gold coins to throw away, this place may not be for you. I must say that they did a good job in setting up their place. But in all honesty, food here cost an arm and a leg. Despite the perfect presentation and standard taste (it's not bad), it is really not worth the asking price. I guess you are partially paying for the ambience too.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Lovely, knowledgable staff, a gorgeous space and traditional honest food. We weren't going to head out this particular evening but when I told my partner about a newish place just round the corner serving tasty Malaysian home cooking, we were out the door in no time! I tried the Mee Goreng Mamak featuring juicy prawns, chive fritters and a whole lot of spice. The dish was delicate and lovely with just the right amount of zing! My partner went for the Vegetable Kurma and the flavour was perfect! We will be for sure.
Chris
Even though they have friendly staff and nice decor, the food was overpriced and the taste wasn't satisfying at all. Sambal wasn't spicy enough; beef rendang was too salty. On top of that, the most disappointing part was the tap water provided was dirty and with some sort of brownish dirt in it. But, after we told the staff about the incident, they changed a new bottle of tap water. And gave us a free bottled mineral water right before we almost done with our food.

I reckon they need to not only focus on the services and interior design but also the quality and price of their dishes.
Emily
For guys who haven't visited this place, go and taste the scrumptious and authentic morsies. I went last night in a table of six. We had a seafood tasting plate to start which was ok, three of us had nasi lemak with lemongrass prawn skewers ( possibly a little stingy on the prawn side -please one more skewer!!) but the flavour of the sambal was nice and not too hot on the chilli side-unlike the one you get in Malaysia! so really lovely to mix with the rice, anchovies, peanut and egg it comes with. Rice was really fluffy. Other members of the party enjoyed a tasty beef rendang, fish curry (this was my partners so I was able to sample more of this tasty deliciousness) and traditional chicken curry, all generous serving sizes and fluffy turmeric rice.BYO - tick, Inexpensive -tick, Attentive service-tick.The only (little criticism) is the music, please no Adele or Mark Ronson (even tho I like do like to sing along to them in the car or otherwise) not when I'm eating delights from Malaysia. Can we have some tunes from the country?I cant wait to come again!

Quality of food is outstanding and so is the atmosphere and service. Although the dishes are on the pricier side, the quantity and quality is definitely there. Same owners as the Hangout Cafe next door.
Jtaste
Fresh, delicious and very traditional Malay food, would highly recommend. I had the beef rendang- meat fell apart and was a deceiving but huge serving I couldn't finish it all. Staff were lovely could have done with a few more on as there was only two people welcoming/ seating people, taking orders and making drinks and running food for a full house. Took 20 minutes to get some wine glasses, no biggie. Awesome food and I'll be back. Finally como!
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
Came to check this place out from Pennae recommendation :D very nice settings, love their decor and ambience... Staffs are very friendly, food came out quite fast too even though it was busy... We all ordered nasi lemak with their add on of sambal chicken, ayam goreng and rendang. Overall nice food and presentation, the only downside is the price... It is more that we usually pay for a nasi lemak
CiderCraze
Been going there quite a bit for the past few weeks, staff are really friendly and I like the decor of this place. Selections of dishes are quite limited and slightly overpriced. My fav is their Pulut Inti. Sticky rice was done to perfection and the sweet potatoes are delish! I'm a huge fan of durian but got quite disappointed at the durian strudel, there was a very very thin layer of durian and the pastry is soggy.
Foodnmytum
The food was really good- soft shell crab salad for two, roti, and a delicious sago pudding for dessert. I am sceptical when it comes to desserts that aren't overloaded with chocolate, but their sago pudding with a "light brownie" was just amazing- I keep thinking about it days and weeks after having it! Their staff are great BUT the tables are very close together and it's really loud and noisy for such a small place. The layout is a little weird. They need to invest in some acoustic sound absorption panels to make this work. The plants are a little weird between the tables, given the tables are so close together- I guess there are trying to create privacy between tables, but there are other ways which can also help with the acoustics. Overall happy experience for a cheerful local.

Absolutely lovely! Stopped by on a Sunday night after noticing it packed with people the weekend before! Had no booking but were welcomed warmly! Ordered the satay chicken for entree and have never experienced chicken so tender (absolute delish) the beef rendang and the chicken dish for mains are highly recommended!! 10 stars to this restaurant!! You have new fans!

I think opening an asian restaurant is extremely tough as there are so many cheap options out there. Despite being a fraction more expensive than some other malaysian restaurants (those with melamine crockery) I think it's a good balance between expensive 'fine-dining' style malaysian resturants and the cheaper ones (that are great for a quick feed but not really somewhere you would bring invite family/friends to).

I love that they don't have a ridiculously long menu and some of the items have a good 'kick' of chilli. The sambal is just amazing and I could have licked that roti tisu off the plate! Delicious! The service was great and the ambiance is a little bit urban and funky. Best of all, you can pop in for a pre-post drink next door at Hangout on 20.
Drjeanbean
Terrible..
The Nasi lemak was not tasty, the satay was skewed chicken pulped with coriander, the sambal ayam was too sweet and pasty, the apam balik was a soggy crepe drowned in syrup with bits of nuts inside.
We will not be back.
Hippo309
The beef rendang was tender, but really salty. It really is overpriced for the quality of food. Only saving grace is the good service from the waitress and decor of the restaurant. Would I come back again? Probably not...
Emily Tan
Nasi lemak, one of my favorite!! And there I was to try it out! Honestly, the sambal was good however the rice wasn't fragrance enough. Teh Tarik was good but best to order the less sweet one otherwise it could be very sweet. Tried their signature dessert, the durian strudel... didn't impress me. Nevertheless, their mee goreng is actually the best one among all other food!! Overall the food is a bit pricey.

My husband and I went for lunch today and it was really pleasant.Good service and the nasi lemak rice is good, the chicken curry is still a work in progress. I spoke to Dave, their friendly waiter and he welcomed any constructive tips for the chef. Try the sago gula melaka - it has a modern take on the traditional gula melaka, not as sweet but it is good. The roti canai is excellent. The cafe is modern and funky and in a great local location for students and for a casual catch up. It will definitely be on our list for a Saturday or Sunday meal.
Absolutely recommend it.

Could not spot the opening hours on zomato for this place and headed on Monday to try this place. It is closed on Mondays. So I snapped a picture so that others can know the restaurant opening times.

Determined to try this place, I headed back on Tuesday. Beautiful decor. A modern and funky place. With beautiful lighting. Not your usual typical Asian restaurant. This place is very modern looking. Love the chairs they use. Since it is now winter, it really feels nice and cosy with the heater switched on inside the restaurant. Just add to the whole ambience.

Price wise was on the high end. A normal Nasi lemak cost $12 with the basic ingredients of cucumbers, half an egg, anchovies, sambal and peanuts. You can order extra ingredients like a fried chicken for extra $4. So that makes this place of basic lemak $16! When I tasted the rice on its own, I did not like the taste and smell of the rice. Only when I ate with the other side dishes - it was very yummy. The chicken pieces cooked to perfection. They used chicken thigh meat so the chicken is not dry at all. Sambal chicken is delicious as well. All the elements complement each other and tasted beautiful on the palate. I actually finished the whole plate of food except coriander which thank goodness they just decorated it on top of the rice, allowing me to push it all aside.

Tried their durian strudel as well with vanilla ice cream. The durian taste and smell was there but pity it was too thinly layered. I gather maybe the cost of this ingredients could be on the high end to allow them to be generous. Pastry was beautiful as well just a little messy when eating as it breaks up and was crumbly. Durian is the king of fruit in Asia and not for the faint hearted. It is an acquired taste. I love the way the chef had tried to add a modern twist to the durian in a strudel form. And it works !

Overall service was good. Staffs were friendly and attentive to the customers.

I enjoyed my dinner. But I must say the bill came up to pretty expensive. Dinner for two - 2 Nasi lemaks, one with extra fried chicken and one with sambal chicken. Dessert to share. Total bill was $44 over. One of the most expensive Nasi lemak I ever had. I guess I will definitely come back to this place but to save it for a little more special occasion on the price factor. But a place worth going to try for good food.

Nice to have a new eating place in Como. Great location, friendly staff & great service. The menu selection is small but the food is authentic. Looking forward to going back.

One night three other people and I decided to try the restaurant, especially since we were long overdue for a proper catch up! We didn't book the restaurant but finding a spot for four on a weeknight wasn't a fuss at all although we saw two long tables with 'reserved' signage on it (oops).

The first thing that caught my attention was the friendliness of the staff at NLK. Under their watchful eye we never lacked of water at all. Additionally, one of them courteously offered to take a group photo of us.

Like other diners who went to NLK, we ordered pasembur to be shared among us and were in awe by the size of it. That explained the $28 cost of the pasembur and it was a perfect entree to be shared among four people, but would of loved it if the peanut sauce was a tiny bit spicier.

Our mains of the night were curry assam fish with yellow rice, beef rendang with yellow rice, mamak noodle and the famous nasi lemak (with addition of beef rendang). When you go to a place called Nasi Lemak Korner, the nasi lemak has got to be up there to live up to its namesake. Thankfully enough, for the most part...it does. The assam fish's gravy tasted really good and the sourness was sufficient and the famous beef rendang had enough spiciness (although we can go for a hotter version ;)). The letdown of the night was mamak noodle that was quite bland in taste in comparison to the rest of the meals.

We were quite full by the end of our main meals, but our two friends decided to end the night with durian strudel. I wasn't a durian eater, so I just tried the feather light strudel pastry. Based on their opinion they couldn't really taste the durian filling.

Now the biggest concern of people who wanted to try NLK was in the price of each meal. Without the dessert and drinks I paid $48 for shared entree, two main meals, good service and seating at a well decorated restaurant. NLK is definitely not a restaurant that you can go to on a daily basis, but it lends its presence as a good social hangout place or as a date night venue.
Love2Eat
Try the nasi lemak with fried chicken as side dish, overall it was okay but the sambal chillies is awesome!! One negative is that one of the fried chicken was still abit raw. So pls check before you eat...

2.5 rating
Service was great and fit out was lovely. I love the graphic wall inside and outside showing the Malaysian culture and traditional 'wayang kulit' (traditional Malay shadow puppet).

I'm so sorry to say the food was average and overpriced. $20 for rendang and yellow rice was very pricey. The dish was ok in terms of flavours. $16 for nasi lemak with some dry fried chicken(2small pieces) was a bit disappointing - rice was not fragrant enough and sambal was ok.

Mee goreng was ok in flavour $12 - a lot of egg, potatoes and tofu and 2 prawns with noodles that were quite soggy. Pasembur $28 with soft shell crab was good. Durian strudel was nice too. Apam Balik was in actual fact just French crepes with peanuts inside and pan fried bananas-quite bland. Oxtail soup I had was also quite average with a slice of bread that didn't go very well with the soup.

If they costed less it would be ok but with prices like this, it's hard not to have higher expectations.

I called previously to ask if there were gluten free options in the menu and was told that there were (rendang ingredients are naturally gluten free) but when I called later to make a booking , the chef insisted that there were no gluten free options. It would be a good niche for Nasi Lemak Korner to cater for this population as not many Asian food places can do this, perhaps?

Service was excellent no doubt but food was disappointing for the amount we paid for. Only stand out was the fried chicken. Nice decor though.

Food is good but pricey. I had roti telur with a side of rendang. For $12 you get two little pieces of roti and a bowl of dhal. I would need five servings to be satisfied. I also had a side of beef rendang which was great. I also finished a 3/4 plate of mi goreng which was pretty good. Decor is very nice with a beautiful mural on plywood along one side.

13 August, 2016
So it's still expensive, the tables are still small, and it's difficult to get staff attention (they always seem to have their backs to you) but wow. I loved the food. We suffered from food envy as we saw the mixed entree plates go by, but the murtabak was delicious. The sambal fish, mie goreng, and nasi santan were perfect. Portions were so generous that we took leftovers home.

15 July, 2015
The sambal here is pretty special - let's hope they follow the trend of eateries selling their in-house condiments! We tried the fish salad ($14), roti canai with curry chicken ($9 + $6), and the beef rendang ($20, comes with rice). I was impressed with the roti canai - light and not greasy - but the dahl it came with was bland compared to the rest of the dishes. The rendang was great and I'll be back to try it with the nasi lemak. At $57 for 1 entree, 2 mains and corkage it's pricey compared to to other Malay restaurants in Perth but beats them hands down for service and ambience. Portion sizes were generous and we walked away planning return trips with family and friends.

It is not often that you can get good Nasi Lemak around Perth and I must say that the Nasi Lemak they serve here is as authentic as it can be, the peanuts and fried anchovies are awesome. I've grown up eating Nasi Lemak back in Malaysia and I will be happy to have this everyday. Can be a little spicy for those who are not used to it but otherwise great flavour. Good environment and friendly staff, definitely worth coming back again!

The food was delicious but I was so disappointed that the roti is only available on weekends! The decor is beautiful, and the Teh Tarik did not disappoint.
Take Me To Foodie Heaven
I had the Traditional Nasi Lemak ($12) with Beef Rendang ($6) as the add on. If you haven’t had Nasi Lemak before, it usually comprises of a coconut flavoured rice served with egg, fried peanuts and anchovies with house special sambal sauce. When I first had the Nasi Lemak during my first visit, I thought that the rice could be more fragrant in coconut flavour. However, during my recent visit, they seemed to have took on feedback from customers and the rice was more flavoursome with a more stronger coconut flavour. If you love it spicy, you will love the sambal and beef rendang too. The beef rendang was tender and had a good chilli kick – perfect for this cold, wintry weather!

I was quite impressed with decor and it is a nice place to hang out. We ordered 2 mains, tamarind fish and nasi lemak + chicken as add ons.
Overall it's okay but not great.
Tamarind fish is quite spicy, too spicy for me. Truthfully my "spicy hot o-meter" is quite low but to some degree I still love curry but tamarind should be quite tangy, but all I tasted is curry fish.
Nasi lemak, sorry. I found that other shop serve coconut rice much better. For $16 nasi lemak did not justify what we ate.
This dont stop me, my initial visit was to eat roti but it was Friday and they only do it weekend. I will come down to try the roti over the weekend and hopefully it will change my mind
N.e.k.o
This is a new Malaysian restaurant with a modern retro decor specialising in nasi lemak. Our group tried a few dishes to share and must admit, that the portion is nowhere near what they cost. For a serve of nasi lemak with chicken, expect to pay $16 (beef is $18). A serve of beef curry (very spicy for normal standards) with rice was $20.

Prices dont justify. Tastes are good, but nothing special. Feels like ur paying more for the nice setting rather than food.

Came here for dinner and was impressed with the interior of this restaurant, very modern and welcoming. For mains we ordered the nasi lemak with all the extras and the mee goreng. They were both far too spicy for my liking but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Good for people who love spicy food! For dessert we ordered the coconut sago and crepe which were both below average. The crepe was too plain whilst the sago didn't have enough cpconut. The service wS excellent.
Eight Seconds Of Food
Been twice now - Week night dinner and came back for weekend lunch to try their roti menu (which is available on weekends only).

My favourites are the nasi lemak with beef rendang (has quite a bit of kick to it!), chicken satay and the roti canai with chicken curry. From their dessert menu, the roti tisu and the apam balik (sweet corn and peanut crepes with grilled banana) were way too sweet for my liking. Since they are just newly opened, I hope they tone down the sugar levels.

Drinks wise, had the teh tarik which was good and had a decent tea flavour to it. Love the funky modern decor - Service is friendly and efficient.

Though it's a bit pricier than your average malaysian restaurant in Perth, it suits the area well and overall is a good addition to the Como strip.
