Review Kung Fu Kitchen Northbridge - Perth

Esther Hew
Took advantaged of their $5 dumplings on the last day of their promotion for March, food & service did not disappoint. Ordered & payed online, got a text not long after that our first order was ready & didn’t have to wait too long for our second order. When I walked through the door, the waitress asked me whether I was waiting for takeaway & checked on my second order straightaway & told me it won’t be too long & to take a seat. She was friendly & saw how she handled customers that came through the door in regards to vaccination checks & passed them menus & let customers chose their own tables. She was quite efficient in delivering meals to customers too. Saw a lot of recent negative reviews, thought I gave an honest review of what I saw tonight to be fair. Keep it up!

The counter girl is so rude, no greetings and no customer service. We went today hoping for the best food but bad and rude service . She need training definitely !!! Chefs took a long to serve us food, not busy as well. They were just casually talking and preparing lazy.

Spicy beef is hard to chew. Spicy chicken has no taste at all. Total bill was $83.50, 15% surcharge, it came to $96.025, waitress said $96.5. I pointed out the mistake, the waitress said I still owed $0.025, so I paid $0.05 to end this whole conversation. By the way, where is my $0.025 change?

Staff are not very attentive at all and you pretty much have to beg for their attention and they make you feel like an inconvenience. Produce was very fresh and great flavours, only compliments on the food and to the chefs. However bad customer service is everything and reason I would not return or recommend.

Good food & great tap beer deals (Feral brewing’s sly fox & hop hog) We’ve been dining in this place weekly ever since we found this place. Tried many dishes & haven’t really been disappointed. Good price point on both food & beverages. We both loved their sichuan style fish fillet dish the most. Would be back for sure
YQ X
Food Taste pretty good,I love the cucumber with chilli oil but there was alot of the sichuan pepper which was a bit hard to not bite them。Hope next time the pepper was lesser or remove from the fish 😂。

Went today with my partner because he likes Kungfu Kitchen's food. There's only one lazy girl serving 2-3 tables. NOT BUSY. I work in Hospitality too and I know how to give great customer service. The girl doesn't know how to give customer service. She's always on her phone. We waited for a long time for the last dish to arrive, we already saw that the food was already out at the Pass, the Kitchen staff didn't ring the bell. The girl was just at the counter, on her phone. This is just lazy! Not coming back here again.

Beef was all fat, not so flavourful soup. Accidentally ordered spicy soup and asked for it to be replace with tomato soup which they wouldn’t allow so I had to pay for the spicy soup that I didn’t even eat. Everything else was just meh

Always packed with people and for good reason. I come here mainly for the spicy cucumber salad, wood ear salad and the steamboat. Food is always great but service can be lacking sometimes. Would still recommend. iPad ordering is a nice touch.

Sorry I don't have any photos as I've always been too busy cooking and eating haha. The family and I have been here now countless times and absolutely love it. Probably the best hot pot in Perth. The salted pepper tofu dish is divine. We always order the mushroom base stock which is delicious along with the dumplings with the roe inside. So good will keep coming back!
Lunarcry
Not a bad place to go to for hotpot. There’s a good variety of food to pick from. The soup bases were all delicious. This restaurant also does some ala carte dishes.

I think the broth for hot pot is too sweet and I was shocked at the bread they serve for hot pot is too cheap and looks like a bun you get from Woolworths.

We went late night on boxing day. Food was inexpensive..reasonable price. Portion was quite big as well. Staff want very friendly but service was okay.
Reuben Black
The mushroom broth was super good and could fill us alone. Got the assorted mix, fish cakes and beef. Was enough to fill the two of us. Good feed on a night out.

Came here for hotpot on a somewhat bustling Thursday night. My friend and I opted for the mushroom broth and a couple dishes; everything was thawed-frozen but tasted fresh. Service was little-to-none as the ordering is done on a tablet and the servers around spoke minimal English but this wasn’t a problem as everything was very efficient. I think this place would be more suitable for larger groups and would make it more cost effective too.<br/>Overall, it was a pretty average experience - meal was satisfying but nothing to write home about.
Whynot
This is definitely a place to satisfy your hot pot craving. They have such an easy ordering process with their tablet menu and there’s so many things to choose from (e.g. type of noodles, seafood, meats, vegetables, etc.). This place is perfect for casual group dinners but be sure to make a booking on busy nights like saturdays. For a spicy broth lover like myself, even I find the broth to be quite hot so be careful what level of spice you choose. <br/>The only reason why I took a star away from the ratings is because I wish they cleaned the seafood (e.g. clams, mussels, etc.) more carefully. I could taste and hear the crunch of sand as I’m eating them. I’m definitely sticking to the meats instead.

WHO 🔘 #KungFuKitchen 🥋🔪 is famous for their authentic Chinese food including spicy braised meats, noodle soups, dumplings and hot pots 🌶🍜♨️. I also recently discovered their "mini hot pot", which was pretty much a bowl of (noodle) soup, 100% customised to your liking 🍲. Thanks Steph & Cheryl 😘😘 for the life-changing experience!<br/><br/>HOW 🔘 Starting with a soup base, you can choose your preferred level of spiciness, ranging from non-spicy to hot. You may then select 4 veggie/noodles and 2 meat/noodles choices, as well as adding 1 extra item for $2.<br/><br/>WHAT 🔘 was in my mini hot pot?<br/>🔸 Soup base ➡️Medium<br/>🔸 Veggie ➡️ Bamboo shoots, seaweed knots, tofu puffs, oyster mushroom<br/>🔸 Meat ➡️ Secret recipe beef sirloin, prawn pork balls<br/><br/>I honestly thought this was the best thing ever invented after actual hot pot. Amazing value for money and the soup was fantastic, which was very much expected from Kung Fu Kitchen 💥. The flavoursome and spicy broth, loaded with numbing Szechuan pepper and other aromatics, warmed up my winter night while other ingredients generously filled my stomach, and subsequently my soul.
JuYeethejoey
There is always a line for this restaurant. So if you are starving, this is probably not what you are looking for as the wait can take up to 30min. Hotpot concept restaurant, choose your soup base and choose your meat, food was pretty average but would recommend the luo han guo drink.
Ayachu
A lot of unique dishes which is very delicious, portion size is a bit small for what you pay for. kid friendly but not much choices that kids enjoy.<br/>staff doesn't have good english that can't ask about dishes.<br/>
Louise Jentz
Very nice hot pot. Soup base is good. Because they are busy, the food freshness is good. The dipping sauces are tasty. Service was ok. Great winter food.
Dan W
The hot pot here is amazing value and definitely great for groups. For an added $1.50 you could unlimited dips for the hot pot, and the choices of sauces and dips was extensive. We had fun trying all the different combinations.<br/><br/>The ingredients themselves were ok. The meat in particular was good and thinly sliced. However the fish was disappointing as it was clearly frozen which led to a mushy texture.<br/><br/>

Went for my favourite mini hotpot. My partner ordered a braised pork belly rice, came within 5 mins, but the pork belly was rubbery and dry. It’s definitely not been braised. As we ask staff why it’s so dry n rubbery, the answer we had is, <br/><br/>I don’t know what else to say.... really a let down.
Jason Big
We had hot pot here and it was perfect! They kindly catered for our non pork diet and the girl recommend the mushroom soup base which was very tasty and healthy.<br/><br/>All the ingredients were fresh and very reasonably priced.<br/><br/>All the staff members were super friendly and attentive. Athough we went there late and they were about to close, they didn’t make us feel like we had to hurry up. <br/><br/>Excellent value for great food and service.
Shameem
Delicious take away; I got the pork hock and it was a winner - fantastic combo of flavours, and lasted me for 2 meals. Makes me want to go back for dine in.
Travis Prue
Waited 25 min for my mini hot pot. That<br/>Normally wakes 5 min to arrive. Sorry for being the only white guy in your restaurant!!!! Shame on you .. #racist
Avi Shchigel
Amazing food and amazing service. The people were very helpful and the food was delicious! The Price is also very reasonable no matter whether you get the hotpot or the normal dishes
Lady X
Come here if you want a spicy kick in your food. I went for devil hot level for the spicy soup since I really like spicy food. It was fun to have the hotpot and choose what you want to put in it! Also dine in earlier if you want to avoid long waiting time during dinner
LilMuncher
We waited for 40 minutes on a Wednesday night for a table. We were then given an ipad to choose what we wanted to eat. This was convenient and incinvenient at the same time because everyone wanted to see the menu. However we were able to see photos and prices and a total price of what we were ordering. The wintermelon tea was very delicious and I reccomend to get a whole jug for value. The raw food came out on a trolley, very practical as table space was limited. The broth tasted a bit bland but got better as we added more ingredients to the hot pot.<br/>Overall an ok experience as we waited so long and the broth flavour was not so flavoursome. However the process of cooking your food at the table was fun.

Some of the best "legit" Chinese food I've had in awhile. All the schezuan themed dishes are great for spicy enthusiasts and the hot pot broths have plenty of flavor, to the point where I didn't even need to use my dipping sauce!
Fan Fan Fantastic
This King fu kitchen not as good as Cannington's one. The portion is smaller than Cannington's and also not as tasty as the other branch. If I'm craving for spicy food, I always choose the other branch.
Wen Ling
A place which I always go for hot pot. Worth the value of money, foods are always nice as usual and never fail to impress us. Waitstaffs were very friendly in guiding us with the iPad order and attentive. Food portions are always generous and the taste are really good.

When you walk into Kung Fu Kitchen, you immediately know the food is good because of all the locals that are hanging out there. Food did not disappoint, it was tasty and packed with flavour❤️I want to go back tomorrow. Oh and the service was Quick quick 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼<br/>I also liked to fact you ordered on an iPad 😊<br/>

My second time i come here had the noodles the first time it was good . So today we tried the hot pot it was vary good we ordered the spicy soup the soup was nice . The meat , seafood and dumpling was all fresh and tasty . The service was good as well.
InMyFaceHole
Really fun experience at KFK. You order your soup/broth and then all your bits to cook in it. We had the lobster balls, fish cakes, pork belly and sesame pork. Perfect amount of food for 2 people. I recommend the mushroom broth, very tasty!
C
Decided to come here with friends for lunch and upon arrival this place was packed.<br/>* spicy chicken - sauce was not overwhelmingly spicy and I enjoyed the addition of peanuts and coriander.<br/>* poached fished with chilli oil - sauce had an unpleasant oiliness to it and was extremely spicy. My friend commented that the serving size here is small compared to other places.<br/>Overall food here is authentic and would come back to try their hot pot for dinner.
Big Trev™
The food is extremely good value and comes out quickly. We had 2 types of dumplings, prawn spring rolls, fried wontons and spring onion pancake. Flavour was good. I'd recommend this place for a cheap and quick feed.

It is not first come first service here. They speak Chinese and service Chinese people first. Bad service!<br/>Hot pot is not the best. Many things in menu Sold out at 6:10pm<br/>We Will not be back.<br/><br/>

I have looked for an authentic Chinese restaurant for a long time to match my experience in China. I can say this place serves the best authentic Chinese food in Perth.Meals and the waiter's attitude here is great, but every time I go to eat to wait
Jeffrey Zhang
Best hot pot in town so far. Really taste and will definitely come back. Suggest 4 sort source pot.<br/>Meat and fish balls are really fresh!

Very Poor service. The waitress couldn't communicate at all and looked like she hated serving. Also they were bring wrong orders and messing the dishes up. The food was cold and when I told them to re-heat they added a whole lot of spices. It has a good ambience but I wouldn't recommend going there. :(
Melinda
Not the best and not the worst hot pot I've ever had, the wait for a table was at least 30 minutes, the food was over priced so ordering per dish became quite expensive the taste however wasn't bad, the soup was nice and warm and seeing as it was raining outside it just seemed like the best food to have, I wasn't overly impressed by the quality of food and the service but it's nice if your looking for a decent hot pot in perth

I always had a good time everytime I ate at King Fu Kitchen - whether it is in Northbridge or the one in Cannington. I simply love the food here. Yes sometimes they can be a bit bland but that's where you have the sauces counter! I simply make up my own flavor (with sesame, chives, garlic and peanut satay sauce - it was awesome!). <br/><br/>Friendly staffs with great services. Plenty of sitting - but because it was always crowded, you still have to wait a while to get your sit unless you come a bit later. Prices are decent too.
Kekesugarball
I can understand for someone who has not been to China, why this place would be very popular --- it is strongly flavourful. However if you have, then you will realise that it makes an overpowering use of spices and lack of freshness, which have made almost all dishes taste the same. The quality and the style of this place are both like a typical fast food Sichuan joint. Not recommended if you are looking for quality Chinese food with tastes escalating in layers, elevated but still in touch with the originality of each ingredient. <br/><br/>Having said so, this place is still a decent cheap bite. The signature pork dish is not too bad.

We waited 45mins to get a seat, but it's all worth it! Loved it! Service was good too. Would be coming back soon!! <br/><br/>I love the spicy soup, can't get enough of it! Will be telling my friends about it!<br/><br/><br/>

Favourite Sichuan place in Perth ✌🏻️🌶🇨🇳 We've been coming since they changed to a bigger building. The food had been consistently good ! Love the cold dishes. The beef tongue and tripes was the best one 👌🏻 The service is what you expect from an Asian restaurant, fast and not very friendly. The price isn't too bad.

At last I managed to come here with my friend. None of my family member including my husband want to come to this restaurant. Because they are serving internal organ.<br/>But for me, I love to eat it as long as they cooked it with delicious sauce😄😄<br/>We had:<br/>*Spicy chicken-for me its too oily;it has strong pepper taste=strange taste; but my friend love it.its yummy.she said its better than the other restaurant @northbridge<br/>*Braised beef tongue- I like the way they cooked the tongue;soft and tender. <br/>But the sauce a bit bland<br/>*Fried tofu- soft and crunchy but salty

Service is fast and responsive and the food is authentic as it can be (not as good as mum's though haha but pretty close!)

Have always been a regular customer for the past few years even before they relocated to a bigger place. Standard has drop significantly, food portion seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Sad and disappointed, this place is no longer our favorite place to go to.

This is the better tasting SzeChuan Hotpot that I have been to in Perth. The ingredients are fresh. The beef is good. The sauce is good. Service is good as well. The Spicy soup probably do not have enough SzeChuan peppercorn to my liking. But everything put together, I will still go back when I have cravings for Spicy Hotpot.

Service is prompt. Food is great. Environment is clean & warm. Went twice so far. Once for lunch & once for dinner. Both dining experience were great. will definitely come back. Only wish their operation hours could be extend to later like 12midnight. It's always the time issue.
Jamie
Had dan dan noodles here twice and it's seriously tasty. Huge serve and pretty cheap too. Good crowd both visits, but food didn't take long to come out.

Went here new years evening. It was really busy but only waited about 10 mins before we were seated. We ordered our meal via an i pad which was really cool. We ordered 4 dishes and i even tried the tongue and tripe which was spicy and delicious. The seaweed was awesome and i just loved the chewy noodles. We had plenty of food to even have a container of left overs which was even better value. Great food and great price.

My family and I love a good hot pot! We even have hot pot parties at home. Combine this love with the love of eating out, we were happy to discover Kung Fu Hot Pot in Northbridge. I first came across this restaurant whilst brunching in Tuck Shop, as I was eating I noticed there was a massive crowd outside of what was then Kung Fu Kitchen. After brunch I walked across and saw Kung Fu Kitchen's menu and everything looked so appetising. Fast forward a few months, Kung Fu Kitchen has closed and opened an even bigger restaurant around the corner, Kung Fu Hot Pot, to be able to cater to the demand!

Well what can I say, this is the place to go to if you are craving for some semi-authentic Chinese food. I say semi because it is way too oily for my taste, and not really good Chinese cooking in general.<br/><br/>Flavourwise, I've been coming here since the very beginning, when it first opened in Perth, and I must say the quality of the food is decreasing at a relatively alarming speed. They used to have some really nice chilli kicks in their flavouring, but now everything just tastes bland. Their fish pieces are heavily coated with starch powder and feels like flour balls on the tongue. Their beef slices have sinews that taste like tough leather. And since they use the exact same chilli oil for every single dish, they all taste the same! Their rice feels like leftover stuff from the night before because they are hard and chewy, rather than nice and fluffy. I've also tried their hotpot, and to be honest, I've had way better stuff in Vic Park.

if you really really really like spicy foods, please come and visit!!! it's a good foods & good challenge for me. definitely will come back again for their spicy hotpot!

Overall our experience was okay. It's nothing amazing but nothing bad either. The service was good but the food was not exactly healthy cos some of them looked very oily and spicy. The worst part for us was the waiting time. We waited for 45mins to get a table for 4 ppl but then again I guess it's due to the Friday night peak hour for dinner time. So folks, get there early if you plan to go on Friday or Sat night. Bear in mind, this place serves lots of innards of different animals such as tripes, pork maw, intestines, duck tongues, duck feet, etc and because of this, the place has a distinct smell but it's not excessively annoying cos you'll get used to it after a while. The place was full at that time but the service was good, friendly and fast. Our table was next to the kitchen near the station where they put all the clean and dirty plates, cutleries etc so we just helped ourselves sometimes without having to wait for a waiter to pass by :-) The steamboat as I said was ok. We chose 2 different base soup - normal and spicy soup. I prefer the normal soup to the spicy one cos they put lots of capers and other spices in the spicy soup which would make your tongue numb. Not to mention it's also very very very oily. We scooped out the oil from the top and it was a full chock of oil in one bowl...very unhealthy stuff! But clearly some people really love this and even requested for super hot spicy soup. We however, just went for Mild. There were lots of choices for the steamboat which you order from the ipad and it also shows you the pictures. They all tasted alright but the tripes and wonton dumplings were not good at all. The tripes were so tough and the dumplings were unlike those normal dumplings. We also had their freshly made wintermelon tea which was very refreshing. The price was not cheap at all but then again what's cheap in Perth? BUT one thing that I totally disagreed was the $3 charge for sauces which you could have unlimited and you mix it however you like. Personally, I think this was a rip off and clearly they make lots of money from this. Only for people who like sauces and can eat a lot of it would make it worth. Yes it's true there are lots of choices for the sauces but hey, how much sauce could you eat exactly? I didn't even finish one small bowl of it. Moreover, you can only choose: either every person on the table has the sauce and pay $3 each OR no one has the sauces at all. Now, I could understand this policy but still in my opinion $3 is overcharged. On the other note, their toilet was surprisingly clean. The kitchen was well managed and didn't seem rowdy or noisy. The waiting staff were all very friendly, worked very hard and efficiently cleaning the tables, attending to customers' needs etc even though their English is not that good but they were never rude. A thumbs up for them!So the bottom line, this restaurant is good but I don't think I will go back so soon because it's nothing special but it doesn't hurt for you to try if you haven't.

After reading the review written by Lyv To Eat I was really determined to go to Kung Fu Kitchen. I don't eat hot pot regularly but I do probably have one annual hot pot dinner. The difficulty is that I haven't found a good hot pot place after the Dragon Steamboat closed. <br/><br/>On one wintery night, I braced the cold and walked into Kung Fu Kitchen with my husband. The staff welcomed us and found us a spot straight away, right in front of the TV that was playing the chinese version of The Voice (the show is called Voice of China). Behind us we can see a private dining room that can seat 10-12 people.<br/><br/>We were given an iPad to do our ordering and even though some words are in Chinese, it was pretty self-explanatory due to the different coloured buttons (green for checkout, blue for add to cart, red for cancellation). The menu also provided us with photos of each dish and drinks. I was going to order ducks tongue but decided not to after examining the photo in the menu (ox tongue is still fine, but I'm not in a close relationship with duck yet). <br/><br/>We opted for the two different soups, spicy and non-spicy. I like the taste of both but prefer the non-spicy one, while hubby liked the spicy one better. Our ordered meats and vegetables came out promptly and we were happily cooking our meals in the hotpot. I've tried to separate our meats equally, but I was so sure that hubby put more meats in the spicy soup... <br/><br/>As what Lyv To Eat mentioned, we ordered two all you can take sauce in the menu so we can try all of their sauces. My favourite combination is a mixture of black bean, chilli, sesame chives, bbq and a tiny bit of hoisin sauce. <br/><br/>I almost forgot to say that when we were seating down on the plush Kung Fu Kitchen chairs, we felt like we were eating at a clean Chinese restaurant in China. Such a good atmosphere and we'll definitely go back to try other dish.

Love the beef and ox tripe here, also the hot pot. A little pricey for the hot pot, but yummy! Don't expect great service. But the food is good. Long wait too, so make reservation or go there 1.5 hours before your dinner time. Hmm tried the spicy beef sweet potato noodles soup, and I must say, it's not that pricey. $12.50 for such a big bowl.
Lamb Pickles
Hotpot good, cold dishes no.. Hot pot is nice honestly however I wouldn't go there always to eat that as it is expensive - i cannot complain much about that. But it is the cold foods that I would have to complain about because it is so bland and portions are small - talk about expensive!

Need to improve the service. The food is yummy. I really like the OX tongue. However the staffs there are not friendly. The service need to be improved.

Horrible service by staff. Alright im definitely agree with the other reviewers that the all the food taste the same chilli n lot of oil but its not that bad i wouldnt mind it for its value. But the service is just horrible, the girl slammed the number stick on my table , no greetings at all, n when she came back with my food , just dropped it on my table n ran back without any smile or saying that " hi here is your food "or something n it wasnt even busy at that time , the girl at the counter never smiles , very rude , all i asked was is it possible to add some meat to my takeaway spicy vege noodles , without even thinking for litreally a second she said NO with not a single glimpse of politeness , extremley rude tune as if i owe her something, seriously they need to learn some manners, n for the record i work in hospitality too n can understand that it can be hard , but that was just some next level rude , disappointing service..

Kung fu kitchen. Bad service, alright food but so thirsty afterwards.... Have been here several times, I like Kung Fu more than the other Sichuan restaurants in Perth. especially the Fuqi feipian. However, the food made me so thirsty afterwards... Also agree with other reviewers re the service - doesn't hurt to smile!!

Good food but service was extremely poor, I was looking at the menu when the waitress told me to order not once but twice, almost like pushing me to order. When I went to order, the girl at the counter made me feel like I owe her money, how can she do it? She must be quite talented in this area!
Sahandkhodaie2003
Different different!!!. First time I visit this place with my ex,I am from middle east,so she didn't expect me to like this place, all I know is that once a week I find a reason to go there! the spice and chilli in the dishes are in a totally different level,my favourite dishes are braised chicken with rice and noddle braised chicken.usually I am the only middle east guy in there,it is always very busy and filled with Asian people,so sometimes I feel everyone is looking at me:D<br/>for the food I give 5/5<br/>for service 3/5(the counter lady needs to learn to smile sometimes! )<br/>if you looking for the best dishes ever its the place for you,if you expect service, I can't suggest this place,<br/>trust me,I do smoke but I understood the meaning of addiction after visiting this place:D

Great authentic Chinese food ; no sweat and sour pork or beef in black bean ; pigs trotters, pigs ear , chilli tripe , all very tasty and good value
Charles
Decided to leave the restaurant after running out of beef again. Food isn't too bad but can't tolerate having to substitute for another dish I don't intend to have.
Sarah Choong
Food quality has declined. The service is efficient and not overly enthusiastic, but still friendlier than most restaurants in China. You order at the counter before letting your waiter know if you want the hot pot. If so, you go up and pick up dishes for your hot pot at the counter. I was in a group of 4 and we dined on a Friday night around 7pm after a 15 min wait. Ordered the koushuiji, pickled cucumber, suan la fen, wontons in chicken broth and dan dan mian. Overall really enjoyed the dishes, I felt they were very authentic and the whole experience made me feel like I was back in a clean restaurant in Sichuan. It was all quite cheap too! Highly recommend the koushuiji (saliva chicken - terrible English translation) and will be heading back to eat that alone.<br/><br/>Returned a few months ago and food is not as good as it was when I first visited. Won't be going back.
Pandorabiol
It's a tiny restaurant, and the setting is so-so. But the price is good. food is nice, yet a bit too oily.
Susan_liu48
Authentic Chinese food, feels like home!. I LOVE THIS PLACE! The only place I can eat and feel like I'm at home. The food is authentic, spicy and oily, just like how Grandma used to make it in China. The price is very very reasonable and it is just delicious. Can't recommend it enough to people who like chilly foods.
Peng Huang
All u can eat is chilli and oil!everything u order taste the same.girl in front counter never smile.will never go back and not recommend to anyone

Love this place! Really authentic. Can def improve the service. But can't fault much.

Horrible service. Most of the food were very oily and spicy. By the end of the meal, I felt really uncomfortable due to the oily and spicy food. Never want to visit here again.

Fantastic little spot. Walking through Northbridge on a chilly Sunday evening, I lost count of how many completely empty restaurants I walked by on the way to Kung Fu Kitchen. My Chinese friends eagerly awaited my arrival and were excited to show me one of their favourite places in Perth to enjoy what they regarded as delicious and authentic. And both it was.<br/><br/>Even on a Sunday night it was buzzing. The café serves what in China may be considered as "poor mans food", and prepare various off-cuts of meat in traditional methods. We opted for a few dishes to share between us, and though they did have milder options we agreed on a variety of spicy dishes including chicken, ox tongue, tofu and tripe amongst others. The portions were very generous and everything we ordered was delicious. I must say for those who are health conscious that everything was served swimming in chilli oil, just the way the Chinese like it. Being a fan of chilli oil this was a bonus for me as well.<br/><br/>For five people the bill came to around $75 (including a 2 litre bottle of ice tea), and by the end of the meal not only had we eaten too much, there remained 3 containers worth of food which my friends took away with them.<br/><br/>Therefore I would recommend this restaurant for those who like the sounds of cheap, authentic poor-mans cuisine in a casual setting. Though one should not have any problem visiting alone, I would strongly recommend visiting with Chinese friends as it makes the ordering process a lot easier. Otherwise be prepared to be the only Caucasian diner in the café (which certainly says a lot for the food's authenticity). Can't wait to try it again!
Potato
Authentic!. Despite the horrible service, the food is good! It is authentic chinese food but for those who dislike oily and spicy food should not go there as majority of the dishes are spicy and the amount of chilli oil is to increase the spiciness.<br/>If you can get over the horrible service, the food is great, spicy and isn't expensive.

The service of that counter lady is the worst I ever seen, totally effected my appetite, will never go there again.

Hot, oily, hot!. I love chilli so much i am an addict. I like this place as it satisfies my chilli craving.<br/>I normally order the searing hot pot but noticed the last couple of times how much oil there is. It's tasty but not so good for the health but there are other dishes that aren't drenched in oil.

Perfect. This is the ONLY Chinese restaurant makes me feel at home.....

One word..... Awesome!<br/><br/>Great lunch spot - I was the only white guy there...does that help?

Good name, terrible service, food is too oily. It's probably authentic, but seriously who can feel good about an oil slick over everything they are eating.

Delicious spice hit!. This place serves pretty authentic Sichuanese street fare. The place is clean and bright, and frequented by the mainland Chinese community. Which is a good sign as to the quality of the food. However, despite the hive of activity in the (open concept) kitchen, and the large number of busy staff members, the food is very slow in being served. And please don't have any expectations of warm and friendly service. Having said that, Kung Fu Kitchen is a fantastic little joint that serves up delicious, spicy Chinese cuisine that is not often seen in Perth. Good stuff.

Mmmmm. Loved the hot & sour noodle soup too! Awesome and authentic Sichuan food, however the service here is extremely poor (you will need to seat yourself, get your own menus, drinks and cutlery etc and order at the counter). However, for a no frills authentic experience (rare for this type of cuisine in Perth), give this place a try.

Boom boom pow!. How can you not like a restaurant called kung fu kitchen? And their food certainly came with a bit of kapow...lot's of chilli, sichauan pepper and fresh corriander...oh and lots of oily goodness. Brought back fond memories of China. =)

Had to race here after the last reviewer said this cafe served authentic Sichuan cuisine & he's right! Really missed a Sichuan cafe that closed in Barrack St a few years ago but this place is better! Try the Hot & Sour Sweet Noodle soup ...it'll put hairs on your chest! Don't worry about the unsmiling expressionless faces of staff...this is normal for a Chinese cheap eatery, especially if people are from mainland China. Just get used to it.

Authentic Sichuan cuisine. My wife and a few of her friends are all from Sichuan, they all agree that this little eatery serves authentic sichuan street food. the lady behind the counter is now more polite and the place looks tidy and clean these days.<br/>Also it's definately my fav place for noodle- chewy and fresh in good portion!

Be warned, its for the adventurous. This is a great little eatery that serves authentic chinese food showing that there is more to Chinese food than Cantonese cuisine. It serves tasty dishes mostly of cheap off cuts. things like duck tongues, tripe, trotters etc. If you have an open mind and a taste for adventure you love it.<br/>Cheap, cheery and delicous.

Nice food bad service. Agree with the grumpy front lady post... service is really bad.. like c'mon it won't hurt to smile and say thanks.. I personally don't have good impressions on the Chinese.. but really.. just a smile is THAT hard??? and i was just looking at the pics on the wall to see what I want.. and it wasn't a busy time... she was just looking at me like so frustrated.. like wth is her problem??.. and all the staffs were just bumming in the kitchen... liked.. errr.... and i had to ask for a empty bowl because we were sharing some dishes.. she asked me to use the saucing bowl.. like the tiny one.. wth.. how are you meant to eat with that? and when I asked for a bigger one.. she gave me that impression that she didn't wanna coz it will mean like she will hv to wash it.. dude.. you are working.. that's what you are supposed to do.. noone told us there was free water either.. so it's liked .......... =.="<br/><br/>anyways.. the place is soo small.. so don't go in a big group... max.. 4 or 5 people at a time.. otherwise.. it's pretty much impossible for you to sit together... <br/><br/>food is awesome nonetheless... had the hot and sour spicy sweet potato noodles sooo good.. the chicken in chilli sauce.. so so .. the XO tripes... sooo good.. much better than the beef and tripes in chilli sauce combo.. had the chicken drumsticks on rice too - very sweet and yummm... the beef noodles.. average...

This place was full of people and we weren't sure if we would get seats. We were also the only westerners in the restaurant. Like the other reviewer said, the lady serving at the front was a bit rude but the other staff were lovely and food came out quickly. The chinese burgers were only $4 each and full of tasty pieces of meat with coriander, spring onion and garlic. Definitely a unique experience eating chinese burgers- recommended.

Grumpy front lady. Fantastic food, evidenced by all the mainland students who are eating there. Good value too. Love the 'chinese hamburgers'and the toungue, ox tripe and duck gizzards. Only turnoff is the grumpy server. I would like to order in mandarin (to practice) but she is so unfriendly, I am too scared. Indeed when I asked her how to prononce / read someting from the menu (rather than continue to order using the hokey english description) she was downright hostile. I feel dumb saying "Chinese Hamburgers" and you would think she would be happy and proud to help me pronounce the correct name of the dish. In China they encourage foreginers who want to try and speak Mandarin. What is her problem!<br/><br/>Anyway I am going down there today to get more yummy stuff, despite the witch on the front desk. A smile will do her wonders...

Definitely not your typical Chinese restaurant, Kung Fu Kitchen offers pretty spicy food with several dishes themed on the less loved parts of the animal. I liked the moorish dried been curd stick, the seaweed salad is a bit intense, the beef & ox tripe was delicious.
