Review Peter's By The Sea - Perth

I have been going to Peter's by the Sea for 28 yrs. From the old days to now never been any disappointments in any area of this place. After 30 yrs in WA & leaving mid April I made sure to visit this awesome place for the last time 😪🤗. Certainly my fav eating place. Always found the staff friendly, nice ppl. The atmosphere has a great vibe. Clean establishment, the staff is always clearing & cleaning the tables ready for the next customer. Never had a bad meal always delicious, definitely worth the money which is affordable. Thanku to all the old & new staff over the yrs for making my time always a beautiful memory. I will certainly miss the whole experience of this little gem of a place. Great stories to be told lol. Bless you's all. ❤😪🤗🥂

Best food at good prices. Not pretentious. Just honest service and food. You can tell they put their heart and soul into what they do without overcharging. Best veggie kebab i have ever had and consistently good. Thank you

I walked in and looked at the menu and thought it was expensive. However the portions were very generous and fish and chips very tasty. Had 2x F&C to feed family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids under 7) and it was plenty for us. Very busy too as it was Saturday evening but service was quick.

Perfect day for the perfect coffees as per always by Peter's by the Sea, oat cap for myself and a mocha for the piece of package of a partner. Scouts honour we rate it up there for Perths best coffees.

Had a chicken kebab here and have to say I enjoyed it. Nice flavour and good to have it in a small plastic bag so the drips don't go all over you (though perhaps not so good environmentally). Plenty of room to sit and eat either inside or out. I think prices are a little high but it's such a great location on the beach. Parking can be an issue on busy evenings but the amazing sunset makes the trip extra worthwhile.

Always busy for a reason and been here for as long a summer can remember! I don’t care that’s it’s not a polished beach front restaurant style who wanna charge 3x as much .. these guys are salt of the earth ppl working hard and smashing out great serving sizes and friendly down to earth service . Lovely on a sunny day to grab some fish n chips for under $20!! Can’t get avo on toast that cheap lol.

Only offered 1 choice of fish. ????. Bloke working there went out back and came back with a piece of fish in hand. Says is only snapper. And the chips sitting in a Bai maree for how long I don't know. Can I not get something freshly cooked? Omg. Five minutes after eating this I was throwing up. Never again. If someone asks if there is a fish and chips shop around here. You know my answer.

Best Burgers in Perth have been enjoying them for over 50 years and its still the best place to go as I can now get one of my favourite ciders to have with my burger.. I hope it never changes

A great original burger place. Very cheap and in a great location. Always a top spot just for a coffee or a cold beer. The service is old style family orientated and always with a smile. Nothing is perfect but you won't complain.

Hang in there Peters by the Sea - as a "new" owner, you're still providing a great service, your steaks are better quality, the old much-loved burger recipes haven't changed, your staff are friendly and efficient and you've introduced eftpos! A new free parking area has opened between the road and the beach below Peters, not well signposted but persevere and find it! Other food outlets around have pulled up stumps and left - don't let it happen to Peters by the Sea - come back soon, you won't be disappointed!

I love the old-fashioned menu, service and surrounds. It's a breath of fresh air to get a $7.95 hamburger without all the bullshit on it . Quick and yummo!

Awful place. Staff sexist and opinionated. Casually walked in and the man behind the counter told me i was punching above my weight. Maybe he should concentrate on brushing his teeth than my relationship in future.

Great to see it is still operating with all the construction going on. The seafood selection for 2 was great value and my mym loved the crumbed prawns th best. I liked the fish and squid rings. It was all good.

Is my favourite place to just chill & relax with my better half. Has this wonderful kind of atmosphere & the fish burgers are No. 1. ���

Disappointed with my Lamb Doner Kebab, no cheese as requested, hardly any sauce making it quite dry, an abundance of lettuce and 2 very small pieces of tomato and onion.

$36.90 for 1x seafood platter and 1 piece of fish and a said “Greek salad” See attached photo in comment. Absolutely horrified. Will not be going here ever again. Not even enough to feed 1 person.

Worst souvlaki I've ever eaten. Unsure if there's been a change in ownership lastly but Peters by the Sea use to be amazing. Very disappointed.

Hadn't been here for years they still do a great burger.... although the souvlaki and the kebabs weren't like they used to be very overpriced for what you got Stick with the burgers chips and coffee

I ordered a lamb kebab. Unfortunately the lamb was so bad I couldn’t eat it. It was grisly and tough. Really disappointed. My son had the chicken kebab. It was average. One star for great location

What has changed? We have always loved Peters By The Sea's kebabs. We have been a local regular customer for 30yrs +. Very dissapointed tonight. My kebab meat was tasteless with little other than chopped lettuce thrown in and no/little sauce/sour cream. Please go back to your original recipe as I understand you might have changed "the mix". If not it would be such a shame to become so average. We will be trying Plaka next time.

Dropped in for a kebab after a Sunday Sesh.<br/>The food was good - well what I remember of it and the service was quick considering it was packed! Petes providing a great service and helping us feel 100% on Monday mornings!!!

Best place in Scarborough area for a burger or to grab some fish and chips and go chill out on the beach. Servings were big and staff are friendly

Very polite staff that clearly work very hard. We had the fish and chips and I was really happy with it. Generous serving size and the fish wasn't too greasy.

The service here is absolutely appalling! We had to wait over an hour for our simple order of fish and chips. After being ignored numerous times when asking for our food, we were finally handed our order with no apology whatsoever. The chips were soggy and undercooked, and the fish tasted like it had been sitting there for weeks. Peter needs to sort out some better staff, and while your at it, shove an undercooked chip up where the sun don't shine. NEVER COMING BACK!

Great fish and chips! Fab HUGE ice-cream! Great for the price but they only take cash. Great place for a casual dinner after a walk along the beach.

We made a Lunch stop here. It was nice and relaxed while watching the beach. Good food Great company who could ask for more. Will definitely return when next we visit Perth

I found a great way for lunch that I can wear my tracksuit pants and also get a great view. And also have a nice beautiful wine. Love the kebabs love the jukebox made it's an extra fun time,got to put a smile on the boys making the kebabs .. But beware of the sea girls especially the figure with the red legs in the red lips

Peter's by the Sea does a good job on the classic fish and chips. So many places get it wrong but these guys got it right. Our fish was delicious. Crispy batter, not too thick or oily, nicely crispy and well seasoned. Good chips too but stingy on the portions! One serve is usually enough for two or more people and this is the only fish and chip place I've ever eaten at (and I've had LOTS of fish and chips in my life!) where it was barely enough for one. This is the only disappointing factor in an otherwise great place.

Love the atmosphere. The location in amazing. Comfort food. Like a mini holiday each time we visit. No fancy food, but Perfect beach food . Chips and gravy by the sea..and maybe a beer.

Having tried all of the restaurants down the Scarborough beachside, it's pretty sad when a takeaway was our favourite. The food was as described, even if not amazing. Service was efficient and friendly than anyone else we'd experienced. A well executed Chico roll and chips.

Peter's has been a local stomping ground of ours for years. It used to be late night drunk kebabs, now it's more of a cheeky Fish burger and a few Corona's, watching the sun go down. It's always consistent and a real cheap and cheerful with a fantastic view. Favourite's of ours include the Fish burger with the lot, plus salad (it's a monster!) and the chicken kebab from the coals. We will always come back here, it's an institution!!!

I used to be a real fan of Peter's by the Sea back in the 80’s and 90’s. But my recent experience there put an abrupt end to happy memories of friendly service, excellent kebabs and the juke box blaring music. After approaching a sour faced male staff member, I politely asked two questions about their menu. In both instances the staff member refused to look at me and answered to my boyfriend instead. After handing him my money to pay, he returned the change to my boyfriend rather than me. As a local, well mannered and modestly dressed female, I found this incredibly insulting. It was not in my imagination - my boyfriend commented on it before I did.<br/><br/>And the kebab? Very average, very salty... this place is just not cricket anymore.

I really like the kebabs they make on Friday and Saturday using meat cooked over coals and on the rotisserie. The lamb is beautiful as is the chicken. Love the hot chips and the sea burger is awesome. Not the sort of place you want to hang around to long after you eat. However I always go back for more.

Too hard to put chips meat and cheese into a box! You clowns! Imagine making something that's not on the menu! Hard world when a kebab shop can't make a custom order of chips meat and cheese

Worst Kebab I have ever tasted. Peters by the sea used to be an amazing place, value for money, great view, great food - not any more. The guys behind the counter are not friendly look untidy and the food is awful. A very disappointing visit and won't be back.

So much potential but.... This cafe is old school. Great atmosphere, crisp cold beers at very reasonable prices and awesome views. The food however is way overpriced and tastes, well, terrible. Cash only here too, and don't expect a working ATM. I'll be back but I'll be cashed up for beers and views only. Better food options along the scarb strip.

Is this 1986?! What expensive well established restaurant doesn't take cards! I won't support places that are cash only. The food is very average. Much better and newer restaurants have been coming to scarborough these days. Go to them. The bathroom sinks are also gross.

Bad service very average food. Breakfast here as Plaka's next door was full (shame). Attitude, expensive, poor service and food was less than average. Drinks took 15 minutes and had to be purchased from separate location. Cash only. Very expensive for what you got. Toddler high chair never been cleaned, disgusting. Never again.

Yes Peters by the Sea is an old school institution, but... If you want a better kebab go next door to Plaka where you can have it with hommus and tabouli.

A favourite. Love watching the ocean while I munch on their delicious burgers. Great time-out spot for a meal or a coffee.

Great food( must read). I think the food a peters by the sea is great I have been trying to find a good kebab/souvlki around perth and I havent found one better then peters by the sea the service great. The kebabs/soulaki are decnt size they aren't filled with just lettuce they put a decent amount of meat in there and my food came out really quick

Best breaky in the west!. Best tasting breakfast and best value for money cant beat a sunday mornin breaky at peters. The service is great too.

A little slice of Perth Beaches that we can still be proud of.... I have been visiting Peter's by the Sea for as many years as I can remember, long before the flash make over that is Scarborough Beach now. It is great to be able to still take visitors from overseas to a cafe that is a little slice of Perth history. They still serve their delicious, generous light meals, that I am glad to say are excellent value for money. The staff are always efficient, and treat visitors with respect, even when they are so busy I am sure their heads must be spinning. A Great friendly place,Best value on the strip.. I have been going to Peters By The Sea for years and for a great good value cafe style meals with ocean views and friendly service its the best on the strip. The crew down there are hard working and busy and always gives a family friendly atmosphere.A great place to catch up with mates for a coffee and a great assortment of cafe food at good value.

Every time I've eaten here I've had no complaints but ffs how hard is it to speak to your customers!!! grumpy money hungry woman serving.. it was not busy at all so taking a few micro secs to say hi and thanks is that really so god damn hard!! your lucky ya burger is good and reasonable price otherwise I wouldn't bother!! go drive ya merc home and YouTube how to give good customer service!!

Fantastic experience at Peters by the sea. We often eat at Peters by the Sea and have sampled many of the menu items. We have never been disappointed with our menu choice. The big breakfast is truely amazing,filling and cheap and is a must have. The hamburgers have a special sauce you dont get at Macca's. The kebabs are very filling and to die for. Service is fast and efficient and with happy faces behind the counters. What more can you ask for ? :)

Two MORE than happy customers.. In response to some of these negative comments about Peters By The Sea.<br/>I do not understand how these people can bag Peter's. My wife and I have been eating here for more than twenty years (and travel 180 klm round trip to do so) and have never, repeat never had either unsatisfactory service or tasteless food. Had the big breakfast today and it was fantastic. Presentation is great and if there was a complaint it was that there was just too much of it. How can anyone say that Helen is rude and abrupt ???? If she is busy she deals with her customers as efficiently as possible so that nobody has to wait too long. I am not a personal friend of anyone at the restaurant and no one there would know my name, I just want to add an unbiased review of this great place to eat. What you see is what you get, good food that is reasonably priced and friendly staff...even the "old man" who is the "boss" who always has a smile for me. And yes like any man he probably swears, neither my wife nor I have ever heard him swear at anyone, let alone people that have worked for him for many years.<br/>Just our two cents worth

So sad, this place WAS the best :(. We been coming for years BUT NO MORE!! this place HAD the best chips and HAD the best suvlaki kebabs. For some reason the service is now really bad, the place is very dirty and rundown :(<br/>the chicken was cold in my kebab and the chips were horrible,

The service was amazing if you liked not getting acknowledged at all. when you finished ordering with only you doing the taking the lady puts her hand out to receive the money for the overpriced meal.... Still no talking from there side of the counter, we ordered 1 piece of fish with chips and the original burger. The burger and fish where not to bad probably a 5 out of ten. Fish batter was very thin which was good I thought but overall experience not good batman. 3 out of 10. PS chips had no salt it must of been an extra

Always my saviour when around the Scarborough area of a night!!

Went to Peters . They are a cash only business. The nearest ATM has a $3.80 withdrawal fee. <br/>The vegetarian breakfast consists of 2 eggs on toast two slices of tomato a hashbrown and beans for $9.90. I ordered this minus the beans. The entire dish tasted like day old meat because it's all fried on the same grill. The coffee is $4 a cup. The staff are incredibly rude belligerent and ignorant. I am sitting here now and can hear them saying A**hole loudly in conversation with one another. I would not recommend this restaurant at all to anyone.

Disappointed at talking advantage of my kids. Went for lunch today with my 3 kids, they bought their milkshakes at the separate drink counter, while I got their food. They had a $50 note and received $15 dollars change. When the lady saw me with them, she immediately went to the register and gave me the correct change when I came to rectify the error. I said nothing, and she corrected the mistake. Evidently this is a common occurrence here with young children. How disgusting. I won't be back.

They use to do good chips here but now it's just over priced soggy crap. Oven fries are better.

Amazing burger!. I have to say I have always gone very plain Jane with food and when I saw onion pickles Etc going on my burger I was thinking oh here we go I'm gona hate this..but due to a friend recently saying whatever they put on the burger it's amazing I thought ill give it a go.....they were right!!!!! So yummy!!!!! Everything's not greasy even though it's all fried and it's a beautiful location to sit lookin at the sea! Great value for money....planning on going down for lunch today! :) keep up the good work....ill be obese in no time calling back in!!!!! Lol :)

Calamari not fresh ... deep fried from frozen. Salad chunks of onion, red pepper, cucumber and quarters of tomatoes with a solid block of bad quality feta splashed with plain oil - really disappointing! Our mistake for visiting Peters

Been coming here forever now all my kids and their mates enjoy this iconic place. Busy bustling wonderful relaxed and casual with great views. Polite friendly staff , prompt service and the food never fails to hit the spot. Support this West Aussie business and not US burger conglomerates! Get along and soak it up . Oh and did i mention value for money ? Outstandling you wont keave hungry.

Great for a late night feed or an after surf fang - it ain't romantic baby and don't expect a smile from staff. Oh and don't bother telling the old Greek dude with the long hair your order because "he don't serve", but at least he's there putting in the effort unlike you.

Kebabs on a Sunday afternoon at the beach. This is the place to go! Service is short and abrupt but the food is consistently good and reasonably quick.

Top meal at very reasonable price. I received very pleasant service from the lady behind the front counter.I wanted something a little different and it was no problem.The service was great and the meal turned out delicious.<br/>Its always been a good spot to drop in on the weekend with very pleasant surroundings .Who ever runs it during the day ,keep up the good work

So-so. As iconic as this institution is, it really is just your average greasy burger joint.<br/>It's sort of nice that the burgers still come out in toasted bread rather than in buns and the obscured view of the ocean lends a pleasant feel to the place but sadly these days Scarborough is no Kuta, Bondi or even Cottesloe.<br/><br/>We went for Sunday lunch and breaking with our tradition, we had the Souvlaki intead of the burgers. They weren't horrible, they weren't fantastic. They were just sort of nothing really. There wasn't enough sauce and the meat was sparse. We should probably have gone to Plaka next door for kebabs.<br/><br/>As for someone saying they serve the best kebabs in the City, then I would suggest that person try Mykonos in Highgate or Istanbul in North Perth.<br/><br/>The service when I went - a reasonably busy Sunday lunch-time - was very polite and the food arrived in about 6 or 7 minutes.<br/><br/>I will go back - but not for kebabs.

Good honest food and value for money. I have read many of the adverse reviews on this great casual icon. What you see is what you get. There are photos on the walls of what they have to offer. My husband and I have been going there for at least 8 years now and we just love it. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and I say to all the people that bag the lovely lady taking the orders at the till she is anything but rude. She is constantly under pressure when they are extremely busy but she always takes the time out to come over and say hi to us and enquire about my husband's progress. We love the fish and chips and the souvlakis their ice creams and frappes are all good. Sure it is not 5 star dining but it is honest good value for money food. Great for people watching too.

Not what it used to be. I used to love this place!! What the hell happened. Service is shocking, food is worse.. We left our meal in disgust and went to Oceans One. Much better!! Sadly Peters by the Sea isnt what it used to be.

Rudest phone service I've ever encountered

I putchased the seafood plate and was severely dissapointed. The fish is not fresh and is the supermarket kindand not the good kind. The chips were precooked and cold. The salad was basically a whole heap of lettuce with 2 olives and 2 tomatoes. The meal would of been more suitably priced at $10 at the most not $20. I have always wanted to try this place but now a regret I did.

What happened? This place used be my favourite place to bring my family for a fast food meal . The last few times we have been the kebabs were all made incorrectly wrong sauces , paid for the lot and got no cheese or egg and sloppy wrapping. Staff are rude and not helpful at all . Please try to fix these problems up as it is a icon I would love to see for many more years.

The 50-something brunette serving at the counter really needs lessons in customer service. It's so loud in there that she didn't hear our order. She rang it up on the till like lightning and I told her she was wrong. She was not happy with me! I have one thing to say - its definitely busy there but if the staff can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!

I'm usually pretty tolerant of poor service (it's common enough in Perth these days) but this place was actually insulting! The "lady" at the counter was in such a rush to move us through, bellowing our order to the kitchen whilst we were still trying to place it, that she got it wrong anyway. I got up to re order the things she missed but decided Mid que I'd rather miss out than deal with her a second time! The man calling numbers out was awful as well. Go somewhere else

MrsP loves it, but may be biased. Born about a mile away, MrsPatel can't visit Perth without coming back, like a salmon to its stream. Are they really that good? Interesting question. The view is of home, the music is awful and the wait variable. Yet, no other kebabs are as satisfying somehow. <br/><br/>Yes, they are greasy, especially if you add more meat or an egg etc. but who are you kidding? A kebab shop on the beach front, with order tickets... if you think it's rough you should have seen it before the renovations! <br/><br/>Lamb with the chilli and garlic sauces is MrsP's particular occasional vice.<br/><br/>Don't forget, if you order chips to add your own salt (they have 'chicken salt'!)

Kebabs and burgers are tasty. The food is fresher when the place is busy. If the meat over the charcoal looks good I get that usually, otherwise a burger

Legendary hamburgers. This place still sells the BEST hamburgers around. Very high quality, delicious food.<br/><br/>Fortunately, the present owners recognised how popular these burgers were before and have kept them the same.<br/><br/>Just get a burger with an egg and see if you agree.<br/><br/>Also love their fish and chips and the "wog dog". This is like a souvlaki, but it has hamburger meat in it as well as egg, bacon, cheese and salad.

"Big breakfast" very oily. Sausages and hash brown under cooked. "Flat white" tasted like a hot milk – very ordinary. Having said that, and to be fair, their kebabs are great and I usually end up at Peter's by the Sea for a Lamb, Salad and Garlic sauce Souvlaki and a light beer! How conflicted ;-)

Dog food. Terrible service. Lady was rude the guys were perves. Chips had no salt. Dim sims were not edible. Very regrettable experience.

Visited Peter's on a very busy night, so wasn't surprised by the 15 minute wait for our kebabs. However when we finally got them it was clear the order was wrong (my 'kebab' was served in a bread roll, and my partner's was completely different, which is especially an issue when dealing with food allergies/intolerances). After the waitress begrudgingly agreed to remaking our order, we apparently went to the back of the cue (instead of being fast-tracked due to their mistakes) and we had to wait another 20 mins. When they finally arrived the order was still not right and the kebabs were generally of poor quality (large chunks of onion, barely any meat, far too much sauce). Terrible service, terrible product. Never again!

If you want first class, friendly service then give Peter's by the sea A MISS.<br/>My wife and i went here for breakfast on Sunday before 12 noon, we were told the breakfast menu was outside on a sandwich board. We decided what we wanted and then when we went to place our order and mentioned that we had a voucher from Living Social we were told that we couldn't use the voucher or get breakfast as it was too late...the time on the cash register still didn't read 12 noon.<br/>The "lady" taking the orders seriously needs a lesson in customer relations or at the very least an attitude adjustment...she is down right rude.<br/>We read the comments about this place but we thought we would give it the benifit of the doubt...WHAT A MISTAKE.<br/>SAVE YOUR MONEY FOLKS...PETER'S BY THE SEA IS NOT WORTH THE DRIVE.<br/>We walked out and had breakfast else where which we really enjoyed

I used a Living Social voucher here which was way overpriced for what we got. I possibly wouldn't have minded so much if the service & venue were nice but unfortunately they werent. I had low expectations after reading urbanspoon reviews beforehand and these expectations weren't even met. It's run down & dirty and the workers were all grumpy. The food was very average. The view of the ocean was beautiful though & parking was easy on a Monday morning during school holidays. We won't be coming back again though.

Won't be returning. Rude staff, just about OK food and ambience is ideal if you are a tradie looking for a mid-week breakfast. It's not a place I would recommend for a relaxing weekend breakfast. And someone should explain to these restaurant owners that Living Social vouchers are a promotional tool for getting people to try your service so that they will hopefully return, these customers are not to be looked at as a pain in the neck. Sorry to inconvenience you - but don't worry, I won't be returning.

Go Somewhere else. This place is a joke. Took my 2 kids for breakfast and 1st they won't beat an egg and put it in the pan, fried or nothing. Bacon, eggs and toast all underdone. Asked for tomato sauce for my kids and they tell me I have to buy satchets at a dollar each. Rude and arrogant service. Leave this place for the drunken yobbos that wanta late night very ordinary kebab. Don't bother, go somehwere else and save yourself the annoyance.

Friendly service with a smile. We used the Living Social voucher here which they happily took with a smile. It's a GIGANTIC breakfast which I could have easily shared so if you're hungry, this is the place to go. Great views of the ocean. Not the finest ingredients (white bread and so on) but very good value and the people are very friendly and accommodating. Excellent coffee to finish off. And a long walk on the beach to finish the experience (and walk off the calories).

GREAT Vegie Burger. My elderly Mum is still raving about this, days after enjoying this burger/sandwich. Still adheres to the old fantastic basic of thick toast, pickles and onions and whatever filling one chooses.<br/><br/>So nice to watch the sea in winter too. Coke, chips and burger - doesn't get much better!

A great view is to be had in this working mans eatery. I ordered the sea burger, which could possibly be re-named the sea sandwich, as bread is utilized.. The service was prompt and with a smile, bringing the burger out pretty quickly. The relish was a highlight bringing a good zing to the burger. The pattie was bland and overcooked which lead to the bacon being a little dry in the mouth. Overall it was too oily and required better execution on the cooking side. This is definitely the workers delight with the local tradies pouring in during lunch time. Food 5.5/10 service 7/10 decor 4.5/10

A great late night Kebab joint. When you're stumped on where to eat late at night in the Scabs/Innaloo surrounding suburbs.. Peters By the Sea will save your day! Best of all... you can add Bacon to your kebab.

Nummmmmmmmbaaaa 72 pleazzzzzzzzz. Used to get a kebab here after a dirty, boozy night at the lookout. Food doesn't taste as good sober. However, credit where credit's due it's one of the only places you can get a feed after 9pm on a weeknight in Perth.

An institution. I've had a few things from the menu over the years and it's pretty so-so, that was, until I had a FISHBURGER.<br/><br/>OMG - it's a weird combination that sounds all sorts of wrong but wow - does it ever taste good.<br/><br/>Honestly, just go and experience one.

We had a great gyros experience the week before after a hard day in the surf we decided to go back to our friend Peters by the Sea. However, I think the salt water and hungriness may have affected us last time because it was not the same. The beef gyros was very dry and no amount of sauce (sweet chilli and garlic) could disguise it. We must have got the last pieces of the cow as it was overcooked, which explains its toughness. The chips were heavily chicken salted by us but any vinegar was absorbed by the cardboard the chips came in.
