Review New Moon - Perth

Rachel Jiyoung Hwang (Cookie)
Taste is good average level, but price is amazing cheap. I loved rive paper wrap with pork topped with soysauce. Duck dish was bit chewy, chicken feet season wasn’t perfect but not that bad. Cheap price and great quality compare other shop.

From the second you sit they are offering you dumplings etc at the table.....we ordered from the menu as well as stuff from the cart & everything was delicious. The staff are constantly making sure you are taken care of......i would definitely go back.

Superb Dim Sum. Our old folks always craved for chinese food when we were in Perth. The other place we wanted to go to was closed for renovation so we found this place by accident and it was a pleasant surprise! 9 out of 10 items we ordered were superbbbbb!!!! Fresh prawns in the Har Gao and Siew Mai. Portions and price was reasonable. One of the best dim sums I’ve ever had (aside the ones in Hong Kong), this is better than the dim sum in singapore. The better dim sums in singapore are pricey, but this was reasonably priced. They go by M, L, XL pricing. We reached about 1.30pm and a few things were sold out. Btw we almost parked at a Wilson parking that was $10 per hour. So we dropped our parents and went to look for free parking by the road side. It’s 2 hour free parking mostly on the road sides, sometimes it’s 1 hour free parking.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal with my wife. Have been here several times and it has not disappointed. Definitely coming back again!

Reasonable price with good dim sum. We had salt n pepper squid, white reddish cake, 鹹水角、crab sui mai, fried won ton, pai gua, prawn Chong fan and 腐竹卷 tea for 4. Altogether is only $58. Something. Way too cheap and delicious. Staff speaks good English but some of them can’t speak either mandarin or Cantonese.

HK style dimsum that still serve steamed items in carriage. Even though most items quite standard dimsum but I found 2 items in my particular liking. One is steam spinach pork dumpling. Juicy, succelent and crunchy (from the spinach). Another is steam mincer tofu & vegie balls. Good value for both breakfast & lunch.

Amazing food. Couldn't get enough off the dumplings and especially the Pork ones. Personally I didn't really like the pork buns but the service is amazing where they are constantly coming around with trolleys full of food.

One of the only places in Perth, if not the only place in Perth, that does night time dim sum / yum cha. Food is awesome, desserts are great too and the service is awesome. Bookings can be made via telephone or can walk in too. Staff very pleasant and ensure they accomodate to your requests. Super cheap quality meal. BYO available. Kid friendly. Highly recommend. Went with large group for a birthday dinner, was great. Thanks New Moon!

Amazing place! Don’t be put off by the simple interior: lovely food and wonderful staff. A must try for truly excellent Chinese food in Perth.
We took over the restaurant for a party of 90 nurses. Alann the chef/owner could not have done more to help us. I have nothing negative to say about this place!

Great dim sum restaurant. Enjoyed everything ordered. Sui mai, Har gau, chicken feet, chilli squid tentacles. All up 10 dishes with drinks cost $60
Danny
Dim Sum was average. Service was good. Nothing really stands out to make me want to return. They do open late on weekends if dinner dim sum is your thing.
Food_Glorious_Food
Came for Dim Sum lunch on a weekend. Restaurant was only half full so no waiting in line. There was only one trolley going around and very little actual dim sum food going around the restaurant - we literally had to order all our dishes which was a bit odd. Prawn dumplings were standard, prawn and coriander dumplings were ok but on the small side, kai lan was very bland (no sauce, just steamed), and the squid tentacles were tasty. As far as dim sum goes, there are much better places in Northbridge to dine at. Our usual go-to place across the street was closed for holidays so it was nice to try something different, but unfortunately the quality and taste didn’t come close.

Tasty Dim Sum, the BBQ pork buns were really tasty. I can see what the hype is about and i will gladly be back. Tasty food, great service, and their salt and pepper squid was to die for.

Visited this place for first time yesterday with family for Birthday celebrations. The service let them down badly. Whilst the food was good the service was lacking in every way. We were rushed through and would have liked more savoury choices but desserts were pushed on us. Probably no return visit from this family.

Amazing, one of the best dim dum places in Perth! Make sure you book ahead of time or get there early, otherwise you might be stuck waiting outside for a table to become available... but hey, queuing out the door just shows how good it is!

They do take away too!
Craig Lampard
Great Dim Sum any time, day or night. Love the steamed pork buns, fried squid tentacles, fried pork dumplings......Always good service and well priced.
MmmFood
Lovely fresh dim sum with loads of variety and items to choose from. The staff were polite and looked after us. Would recommend to go with a big group so you get to taste a bit of everything

Feedback as Canton ourselves:
Chicken feet - taste not bad, soft enough
Siu mai- average, similar to those you buy frozen
Steamed bean curd- average, not much taste
Egg tart - Bad ! Crust not flaky enough, the filling is considered bouncy hard, feel more like a harden jelly. A real egg tart should have a really soft delicate filling
Steam Har Gao - filling quite small, taste okay, the skin is slightly thicker than it should be.
Will I revisit? No.

🥟 First time trying yum cha, was not disappointed! This place was recommended to me by a foodie friend. The food was plentiful and delist, staff were really friendly and made honest recommendations. We tried some greens with oyster sauce, deep friend chilli octopus and just about every dim sum on the menu!
Menu was hard to navigate which is why we asked for recommendations.
💵 Great value.
🙋🏻‍♀️Service was good.
🍃 Clean, nice decor.
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Family friendly
🚘 Lots of parking nearby, recommend going in before the nightclub crowds come out (especially if you’re going out with a young family) as Northbridge can get a little rough after dark.
Fatima Moosa De Gois
The best salt n pepper squid in Perth! Must try their money bags & chilli mussels!!! Absolutely love this place-best yum Cha in Perth! Service is fast and effective. Dessert isn’t their strong point, but main courses are amazing. Dim sum reasonably priced

Now with this place, I really don't get the craze. There's always a ridiculously long queue outside. The food here is honestly not great, there's nothing special about this place. Really people, Dragon Palace, Lok Fok and Emma's are all in the vicinity. You're MUCH better off going to the latter.
DaphneEats
Awesome yum cha night, inhaling all things seafood with a pescatarian friend. I've been here several times on a Friday night and I LOVE it.
My favourite is the money bags with roe... so heady and delicious. They also do great salt n pepper squid tentacles and glutenous wrapped chinese savoury donut.
The dumplings are nice- steamed and fried - prawn better than scallop. Soft shell crab was average.
Good service... very friendly staff and owner :)
Also try their chicken pastries, ginger duck and garlic pork ribs...maximum YUM.
Jimmy Jam
I come here every Saturday! atleast I try.

Man their food is delicious. I love the idea of food coming out on trolleys, and if there's something that you want that they haven't brought around, just give them a holla and they'll be right over to get your order.

The food is somewhat cheap, which I dig, and the people have been friendly. Especially the owner, I love her energy.

I do have to agree with a few people here. The dishes were not as good as it was a few years ago. They were bland and some were rubbery. Even the salted egg buns were disappointing.
Kamani Senaratne
I wish this place was good because it's in a convenient location. The dim sum is bland and lacks flavour. Service isn't particularly good either. The lady at the counter (owner I believe) can be very rude and lacks customer service. Seems like they're more interested in just getting money over having repeat customers.
W
As a Cantonese. I had the worst Yumcha experience here. In terms of food, taste is just not right, texture is wired. I do not think those people in kitchen are qualified. Service is average. I am sure that I will never come back.
Canaan Perry
I've always had good dim sum items here. It's has very quick service and a great range of options. It's fast paced, tasty and very fairly priced. Will keep going back.
Kohdyx
Coarse and unrefined dim sum...steamed pork buns stale...egg tarts cold and over cooked...pork dumplings rubbery...wasn’t a particularly memorable or satisfying experience...$53 for three ppl
Kate Gillie
absolutely love new moon! come here all the time and enjoy it everytime, especially the pork buns 😁 the soft shell crab is amazing aswell ..
Brianna Stimpson
We were rushed from the beginning, not even able to open the menu because four people one after the other would force us to order, even after asking multiple times for a couple of minutes to just sit. All the food was pretty bland. At the register I was charged $3.00 extra for a service tax. "Oh is there a service tax?" I asked politely. The woman responded rudely "Yea it's on the menu". The menu I never got to read. Will NOT be returning and making sure everyone knows why--ironically wish I could have paid less for LESS service.
Ilovebeansprouts
Great selection of dim sum even for an evening meal. Fried Squid Tentacles are crispy and all our dumplings came out steaming hot. Pan-fried and deep fried dishes are generally nice but lacking in consistency- some are more oily than others, while some are a little undercooked that they lack in the golden crunch. Had the Stir-fry Seafood Fried Hor Fun and Fried Rice too. Hor fun was tasty, but fried rice was a little bland. Place can get a bit stuffy and crammed especially when it gets busy. Don't mind coming back again during their 'off-peak' period if we're craving dim sum for dinner.
@Foodieguide_lily
An average yum cha experience - the service is polite but unreliable. The quality of food isn't awful but not great either - a little lukewarm, sloppy and not much meat in some of the dishes. The sticky rice which should have had meat had barely any visible meat, the har gau was cold and the xiao long bao were stuck to each other and the sides so they tore as soon as they were touched. The cheong fun were ok but cold, and the drinks I ordered didn't come until I chased it down again. The a la carte fried rice noodles were the best part, but for what we paid overall we could have had a much better meal around the corner.
EHVT
Went there for dim sum on a Sunday, we were in a rush and not many ppl waiting, then we picked New Moon. The lady waitress was impatient, we order 3 things and she didn't want to take the order. With the food, pork Siu mai has very strong pork smell, chicken feet has the chicken smell, Gege & prawn dumpling doesn't taste like fresh, very hard skin. We also ordered the salt & peppers squid tentacle, the flour/coating outside on the squid is coming off, the squid is uncooked, and very strong chemical smell, not soda smell but CHEMICAL smell, similar to bleach which I can't explain...totally disgusting meal and never go back again!!!
Anu
Last Sat we went to this place, there was a wait time of 20 mins to get in. Finally when turn came, we were given a table to share with other strangers. Dimsum was just ok and not worth the wait. Waiters service was pathetic as whenever we called them, they told 1MIN and never came back.
Would never go back again...Very Disappointing
Zoodle
Nice to be able to get Yumcha in the evening. Some items were good, others average. Most of the steamed dimsum were yummy. I will give the beef balls a miss next time. Although the crispy squid tentacles and soft shell crab were both good, there was hardly a difference in taste. Overall pretty good. Would be nicer if they maintained better cleanliness and hygiene there though. Tables are sticky and a bit yuck from not being cleaned properly after previous diners.
Josh Teh
Dim Sum is pretty good here. The resteraunt itself is a little bit of a let down for Northbridge especially when you compare the premises to other dim sum establishments. Prices are ok. Customer service is ok. Will go back but not my first preference for Dim Sum in the area
G_star
Not as good as it use to be. Staff look busy but does not know how to work smart. No queue anymore like it use to be. One of the dish is cold but the lady boss seem to be more angry then me! Maybe this is the only yum char place she think she is in the world.
Sabrina Perick
Food was nice, service was really bad. they took our orders at different times and even then forgot some orders.
Most of them weren't friendly and the lady at the counter even got mad when asking her kindly if it is possible to pay separately. They charge $1.5 per person for service, ridiculous.
Olivia B
Authentic and traditional. Stopped here after seeing an article on urban list and don't regret it! While it's just a typical cheap Asian restaurant, the food is tasty and flavoursome. You have to be wary of the staff coming around with the steamed options and just putting them on your table (unless you want them of course). Tip: Make sure you BYO drinks 👍🏾 I'll be back for my cheap Asian fix soon.
Sweetmeymeysugarplum11
Exellent food, alot choose ,easy to find, clean, near everywhere ,good bring family, friend n friendly staf luvvv it here ❤️❤️❤️will defo come back here again 👍👍

This busy spot is my favorite dim sum restaurant in Perth. The dim sum is always fresh and has classic clean tastes. The decor is light, bright, unobtrusive and the shop front is glazed so it is an open window to James Street. Note that this is not a restaurant to take a long lunch and more suited to a quick meal as turnover is fairly quick.
Chris Skotny
Never have I ever been treated so rudely in a restaurant. When trying to order, the waiter waved his hand at us telling us to wait. The next time we tried to order the waitress left mid conversation and walked to the next table. I am seriously disgusted by the service I received and it is the first time I felt uncomfortable dining at a restaurant. Only saving grace is the somewhat decent food (which was luke-warm) which even then doesn't make up for their poor excuse for "service". Won't be back.

Decent Dim Sum. Haven't been here for many years but it used to be my go to place for dim sum. Had a selection for lunch today and wasn't disappointed. The "Juicy Pork" soup dumplings were some of the best I've had in Perth. The Chilli Squid was also top shelf. My only gripe was the mango pudding was a little bland.
Love Eating Out
YUM. Friends recommended this place, so 3 of us popped in for a quick work lunch on a Tuesday and it was still busy. The staff were very friendly and the service good. The fried prawn dumplings were so fresh and tasty. The green vegetables were great. The only slightly disappointing dish was the squid - but perhaps just a bad day for squid? Everything else was delicious. The prices were very reasonable. Looking forwarding to returning soon.
FineDiners
We came here just in the nick of time before they closed, so most of what we had was made to order. Nice, quality dim sums. They were all made well with fresh ingredients, at least that is what it felt like to me. It was a satisfying late(ish) lunch. I could definitely return here.
OldMate
I'm new to dim sum. But gee whiz I like it. Turbo service, in and out in about 20 minutes with a full stomach.
Dumplings, prawn wontons, pork rolls and my favorite, the chili squid tentacles.
Or "squid legs" as my dining partner calls them.
Foodie In Paradise
We decided to come here for dim sum on a Sunday afternoon for something different instead of going to our regular dim sum place in northbridge. Dim sum here taste quite average; my deep fried squid tentacles were soggy. There serve a limited variety of dim sum compare to most places. Staffs were very attentive at this place.
Overall, this is not the best place for dim sum in Perth. However, this is one of a few restaurant that offer dim sum at night time. I forgot to take most of dim sum pictures this place after we started eating.
Foodieperth
Great selection of dimsum! We ordered straight away and were seated just next to the door. The chicken bao was okay, the chicken was slightly dry. The BBQ pork bun was fantastic however, but the skin of the har gao was too thick and gelatin like. The har chong didn't have enough sauce for my liking but had the perfect ratio of prawn to skin.
Brodie Skoda
Amazing quality and excellent organization for a Dim Sum style restaurant. Plenty of attentive staff and delicious, filling food for far less cost than you might expect.

Most definitely worth trying and you will wish to return.

Dim sum at night was very tasty however there was a major let down. We ordered squid tentacles, and as an advocate dim sum lover, these were not fresh at all!!!!!! After I asked the waiter to change my cold squid, he asked the chef to come out. The chef said that they were fresh out of the kitchen which is evidently false as "fresh out the kitchen" should be crispy and hot!
PerthfectBreakfast
Good dim sum, cheaper and less busy than most other dim sum restaurants in Northbridge - what's not to love? Well, I wasn't a fan of their egg tarts or sticky rice which was a bit bland.... But tea was always promptly topped up when asked. All the other dumplings we tried were great. Their serving of squid legs (which are everyone's fave) were generous!
William Ooi
It's opens at 9.30am so you can have brunch, it's quite good for yum Cha but limited range. The steamed dumplings are quite good. I know it can get quite busy around lunch times with queues.

The waiters and waitresses were extremely rude. A waiter with black rimmed glasses kept putting through the wrong order to the kitchen and had a poor altitude. A few customers got wrong orders so as my grandma. When my grandma said she didnt order the food that the waiter served, the waiter was rude to her and didnt appologize to her.

WE will never go to that restaurant again!
Verity De Fries
This was my first dim sum experience. I was amazed that after 30 seconds of being seated we were being given food! The food itself was ok, I dont really eat pork or prawn which is the majority of the menu. Enjoyed the chicken wontons and the crispy squid. We paid around $80 for 4 of us and were all stuffed. Good for a really quick meal
Irenenyein
one of my favourite dim sum spots! food gets served really quickly, which is great and always tastes delicious. the fried squid there is also a big thumbs up because it’s crunchy and hot.. some places serve it cold and soft.. since the restaurant is small, it’s not as loud as other places & getting service isn’t as difficult. would come again, it’s definitely a place to check out.

Always visit New Moon when I can. Took my partner on Saturday for his first time and the service and food was below what it normally is. We had to wait 15min which is fine but once we got in we got seated at a table against the wall. Noone came to ask us if we wanted any food. I ended up calling someone and placed a couple of orders. Sat waiting for 15min with no food so I waved someone down and they said my order was misplaced so she ordered another lot and we got that straight away.

Daughter & I have been looking for a new favourite dim sum place after Edo Shiki (aka 'Fat Sushi') sadly closed recently. I think we just found it!
Noisy & full of bustle, the food is great & there's a wide selection to choose from. We will be back 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

One of the few Chinese restaurants to serve dimsum at night. It's what we were craving for, but quality was only average. The salted egg yolk bun was dry, not runny - not very happy. And also they didn't have the key sweets like egg tarts or pineapple custard buns. Otherwise they had everything else and in comparison to the other dimsum places that only open during day, it's quite average. As the former Hoi's Kitchen, I'm a bit let down.
Baby Munchkin
New moon is very busy you have to wait at the doorstep. the man/lady calls your number it dose not take that long though 10 or 20 min or so it has nice food but inside is extremly noisy lots of people milling around makes it hard to eat without elbowing someone or someone elbowing you. When it is not busy it has very good food

Baby munchkins,
Tried this place out yesterday to meet up with some friends. First time being here for us all. First impression was that it was small and I wasn't sure how easily the trolleys could move around. However, food came around fast and that pleased me because I was starving. The portions are smaller than most dim sum places I've been too, but that was reflected in the price as it came down to around $25 each for the four of us (however, only two of us had really big appetites and the other two were feeling a bit sickly to begin with). My go to dishes is the squid and the steamed bbq pork buns. The squid was nice but a bit sweeter than I'm used to. I still loved it. I also really enjoyed the buns, which I found particularly meaty and delicious. I also noted that they section the prawn rice flour rolls per prawn, which I really appreciated. As said before the other dumplings are a bit on the smaller side, but still decent. The food was good, yes, but overall I'd just say that this place is alright. Didn't blow me away, but didn't put me off. My biggest turnoff is just the interior.
Esther Ng
Hmm, not the best dim sum i've had in perth.. Not sure why its always so busy? Feels like i'm eating packet food here =\ do yourself a favour and go to royal seafood on aberdeen st or dragon palace in the daytime.. Or get some packet dim sum from the frozen aisle in the oriental store :(
HornyPalate
Worst place to grab food. Staff have no clue about communication skills. Even the manager is very aggressive and charged us for a dish that we didn't even order. Aweful experience !!
Elena
We arrived at about 5.50 for a 6pm reservation and there were about 6 other people waiting outside, but the staff (who were sitting inside staring out the window) wouldn't open the door until exactly 6pm which we thought was a bit odd.
The food itself was good - we had a variety of dumplings, squid, steamed and stir-fried vegetables and chicken feet. We were provided with fresh tea on arrival free of charge.
We asked for water, and we were told by a waitperson that we had to buy bottled water. They then got the manager, who was extremely rude in telling us that she has the right to refuse to provide tap water and then walked away.
The waitstaff were nice and helpful, and the food was good and well priced (just over $60 for 3 people), but we won't be returning because of the way the manager treated us. How an Australian restaurant can not provide tap water is unbelievable and she was extremely rude in the way she spoke to us.
Dolba
Steamed dumplings are good, so are the rice flour rolls but sadly it ends there. The Ginger Duck is dry and lacking in flavour, Lo Mai Gai (sticky rice) is dripping with cheapness; no mushrooms and no sausage.

Oh and there's a charming little 'service charge' of $1.50 a head. Not the end of the world but worth noting as I've never seen it before and it looks like a blatant cash grab.
Swapnil Singh
To start off with they have too much staff and none of them are any useful
Later on after eating the amount of msg these people use is astonishing and now I'm left feeling bloated and am continuously vomiting
Smritima Lama
This was an awesome joint...it should be on everyone's must visit list @ Perth esp if you love Chinese cuisine. There were two of us and we had the steamed bbqpork, prawn and fried pork dumplings. As well as chicken feet in black bean sauce and the crispy soft shell crabs. The food was piping hot and service was quick. The chicken feet were heavenly and melt in your mouth. The BBQ pork dumpling was just the right amount of sweet and salty. Perfect umami flavours. The prawn dumpling had enormous sized prawns in 'em and were a sweet mouthful. The soft shelled crabs were also yum, could be had whole and non-messy unlike the grilled/boiled crabs in which you have to crack and hunt for the meat. They have an interesting billing system wherein whatever you ask for keeps getting ticked on a menu sheet on each table.

Unfortunately they had run out of baked egg tarts. But we were pretty full and our bill came to around AUD $32. So I don't think you should go by zomato's $60 for two people tag for this restaurant.
Anna Nguyen
Been going here for years. Best dim sum in Perth always fresh and delicious. A good variety of dumplings (ha Cao) This place is a must try! :)
Nena Anne Sorensen
I love the yum Cha at New Moon. I have been going since it opened and just love love love the food. My only frustration is the seafood porridge is not available on the weekend. I have had Yum Cha in Hong Kong and this little place in Perth is so much better.

I highly recommend the Chili Squid (you need to ask for it) and any of the pawn dumplings that they have on the trolleys. I have taken my nieces there and they loved the special fried rice and spring rolls (so there is something for everyone). When I am feeling in the need for greens I will have the gailan with oyster sauce (and again ask for it). Make sure you order the chili paste and green tea to accompany your meal.

Oh, and wear your fat pants.
Michelle Yvonne
Good food; fresh, hot and delicious. Very reasonably priced. However, the staff are a bit rude and the venue is so cramped that carts kept bumping into me. Didn't like the staff, loved the food.
Kudokun
My colleague Tracey favorite dimsum place. In fact she loves this place so much she refuses to go to other dimsum place. Located at the heart of Northbridge and within walking distance from those working in Perth CBD, New Moon offers wide range of dimsum at affordable price.

Personally, I think they are at par with many other decent dimsum place around Northbridge. They do not rate below nor higher comparatively speaking. But I have to admit their service is good, friendly and quick staff despite busy period.

The melted egg yolk bun (lu sha bao) is definitely on top of my list (would go for at least 2/3 per visit) – make sure you order towards the end as this is sweet (so for dessert) but you MUST eat it while it’s warm. One time, I ordered to early and waited too long until it was no longer warm and the egg yolk no longer melt – it is not good. Other than that, most of the dimsum are good.
Popcorn Addict
Went one lunch and was in and out in 20 minutes having eaten a huge amount of food. Recommend the squid and the soft shell crab and the pork belly. Haven't had anything in the few times we have been that hasn't been tasty.
LittleGirlBigFood
Some serious dim sum action going on here. Chicken feet and shark fins the norm. Although I guess that's the norm for dim sum in general. However these dudes do it well.
MungBeanDream
Ahh-WOOoooo! (my best wolverine impression) - A New Moon, and a new standard has arisen, and eclipsed the harsh glare of all other dim sum houses of Northbridge. Arising from my man cave, I prowl the street. My eyes are bleary but the scent of shumai hits me and lickety split my hackles are up, I have the bloodlust now. I start to tear and scratch at my companions, urging them onwards. "We have that stag now, hunt him down!" I hiss. With lips already smacking, our eyes bulge as we enter the cool ice cave of the New Moon. With the food already steamed and ready to go we rip into those perfect buns like plump lambs to the slaughter. The shanghai dumplings, steamed beautifully, stand no chance as my fangs pierce their virgin skin and gorge on their insides. All the dishes are made to a high standard, and my pack eats well this night. I lick my face clean and we vanish into the night, searching for our next kill. Great dim sum, highly recommended.

Appalling - absolutely shocked.. When I called to make a reservation a lady said they only do bookings a day prior for weekends - not a problem however she did not give me the chance to say anything and hung up. I called back to ask if she hung up and said yes I have to do my work and hung up again. I called again to ask for a manager and she kept putting me on hold and left the phone as busy. She told me I was crazy, mental and insane and to stop calling. I was actually going to book for Saturday but she wouldn't let me talk as she kept hanging up. I cannot describe how appalled I am - I would highly recommend the Chinese restaurant that also does dim sum on row street. I will let everyone know about this experience and will also call consumer protection.
Asian's Taste
This place is one of my favourite dim sum place. The price for each dish is reasonable. If you are planning to come to this place, do not forget to order the chilli salt and pepper squid-it's superlicious..it's crispy..and chicken feet...😋😋😋
However, the prawn dumpling's skin are a bit too thick.
Overall is nice...

I honestly have never make an urbanspoon account or zomato account in my life. I made this review especially for this horrible restaurant with horrible owner. I with my friend went for a dinner service tonight, order 2 siu may, 2 ha gao, 2 bbq pork bun, 1 pastry pork bun, 1 xiao long bao, 1 chicken feet, 1 custard and egg yolk bun, and 1 money bag. We order for 11 dishes but were billed for 12 dishes. I ask one of the waiter, that this is wrong. the waiter then ask tell the owner with their languange, dont be mistaken I am also asian. The owner the start shouting while I tried to explain the situation to the owner, She kept cutting my line and shouting, I politely ask her not to shout and she deny while keep shouting. She then ask us to pay and said that we are not welcome. Well I replied with "what is wrong with you?". This is the worst restaurant service in my life, not even in when i went to china this happened, an owner shouting at customer, when we were about to explain. Furthermore, she asked us to pay when WE WERE STILL EATING. This is ridiculous.
Darrylsudja
The food is not appropriate as ordered. And the bill was topped up by the manager as they used to do. Bad manner manager. Even the situation inside the restaurant is not as expected.
Hangry Hippo
A smaller dim sum venue but food is good..Shanghai dumplings are on point..expected quick service and decent pricing..a point to not mention is the great air-con..nothing worse than sweating and eating
Matt
I'm a big fan of the salt & pepper squid & recommend anyone to make sure you order this. The steamed dumplings - prawn & chives or prawn & coriander - are favourites. It gets busy, especially on Sundays, so either get there early, or book in advance.
Hippo309
The squid and chicken feet were yummy. Everything else was decent except the char siew bao bread was too soft and soggy. Service was quick and efficient.
Eats PERTH
I eat here to satisfy my yumcha cravings once a week. First started going as a child with my family and now years later I take everyone I can to experience it. Delicious food, friendly service. the hustle and bustle is all about the experience, packed full of people eating joyous food. Definitely must have!!
Adrian Porcaro
Had an enjoyable lunch here today. Not the best yum cha I've ever had, but good. Lots of hype around the squid, I wasn't massively impressed at first but then I couldn't stop eating it. Very moreish!
Iratoimasu
I go here when I have dim sum cravings and squid tentacles. Freshly cooked dimsums is a plus. I adore their shanghai dimsum and chicken feet. Pork siomai and shrimp dumpling is also a best seller. Their egg tart you have to order at once cause it sells out fast.
Perthfoodlover
My favourite dim sum in Perth, Great service and great food. I recommend booking in advance as there is a bit of a wait. If you ever feel like dim sum, new moon is the place to go.
Marissa Allia
Best Dim Sum in Perth! Ive been all over the place and nothing beats New Moon! Thoroughly suggest for anyone looking for authentic high quality food!

Came for lunch on a Tuesday with my husband. We were greeted and seated quickly.

Ordered scallop and prawn dumplings, siew mai, BBQ pork puffs, deep fried squid tentacles, deep fried prawn dumplings, century egg and pork porridge, and bean curd skin rolls.

Good came out very quickly and the ladies always had something to offer. The food itself was cooked. Bland. And to my horror: a long piece of hard plastic in my bean curd skin roll.

Might have better luck next time.

My favourite dim sum place in Perth - hands down. The food is all very fresh and delicious, and for reasonable prices too. This place has the BEST crispy fried chilli squid. I have not found any place that does it better than they do at New Moon!

Nice yum cha however the service was too bad. I and my family had made a booking at 10.30am and been there late only just 5 mins so they gave away my table to other group though I had given them a call earlier. Won't be rushing back sorry

This is my go to place for dim sum cravings for dinner. They're only open on Friday to Sunday for dim sum dinner so make sure to keep that in mind. It's always busy with people lining up so good to book a table in advance. The varieties that comes around is really good and they all seem to be freshly cooked. This place does BYO so it's also a good place to "pre-drink" before heading out after.

New Moon is my family's go to for yum cha.
The dim sum are always good and appear to be cheaper than surrounding places.

I wouldn't bother with reservations, as we have made some before but have still been made to wait quite a while for a table, as they generally work a "first come, first serve" manner.

There is a bit of a sense of being rushed, as there are typically people waiting outside to be seated - which can be a bit uncomfortable when you come for a meal with a group of people. But I think this is pretty typical of small places like this.

Definitely recommend trying their sago desserts!

Best yum cha I have ran across it Perth. The salt and pepper squid is amazing! The service is impeccable and even when busy it's only a short wait to be seated.

Well as much i use to loved new moon it came to an end when I went to the toilet and see a staff member blowing her nose with gloves on(same staff and guest toilet), walk out in the restaurant and keep serving with the same gloves on!! Ewww no thanks

I'm no Yum Cha expert, but New Moon is the best we've had. The food was fresh, delicious and good value, and the service was also great. We had our 2 year old son with us and it was a lovely touch for the staff to bring out plastic crockery for him, and several staff members came over to chat/play with him. We felt very welcome.

One of my favourite dim sum places I like to frequent in Perth. I often use chilli pepper squid as my benchmarking dish when comparing dim sum places. The squid here is up there with the best in Perth - Coated in a light crispy batter with just the right amount of spice and kick from the chilli.

Other favourites are the BBQ pork buns and their rice flour rolls. Overall the dim sum dishes here pretty good - Didn't have any dishes that I could really fault.

Best thing about this place is that it's open at night so you don't have to worry about fighting the crazy dim sum queues on the weekends =)

Surprisingly good dim sum for a place that does it all day. Value for money too. Was stuffed between the 7 of us and it was less than $20 ea. Highlights: beef tendons, tofu roll, char siu chueng, lau sar bao. Good to have a place to get my dim sum fix. Take away available and just down the road from home.

One of my favourite places to come for Dim Sum. It can be a stressful atmosphere and it was definitely crowded and busy when I went. However I was quite impressed with the staff and how they operated. New moon has the best squid I've ever had at any dim sum restaurant and the serving sizes are very generous for cost. Will definitely be going again.

It's been quite a long time since I enjoyed a yum cha as much as I did this morning. While all the usual suspects came out of the kitchen, it was all fresh and delicious..

The dumplings were great (both the plump steamed prawn and the panfried pork and chive). Rice flour rolls were a generous size, mussels were tender, steamed pork buns chock full of meat. The crispy squid was so good we ordered another.
I've never gone to yum cha with the expectation of cheerful service (in fact I'm somewhat suspicious if the yum cha ladies are cheerful) but I have no complaint about that at all - I'm there for a quick, cheap meal and don't feel the need to be pampered. Service today met my expectations!

best place for yum cha in perth. keep going back there. I'm a big fan of their eggyolk buns. food tastes fresh and the service is good too. a good cheap eat!

Went there once with 3 friends. A bit of a wait for a table but understandable as it was around lunch time. Probably a 20 minute wait. Once inside waitstaff came around with their trolleys with a selection of dim sum and other food and desserts. Quite enjoyable but the space is a bit small.

Pretty good dimsum, one of my more frequently visited dimsum places. The baked bbq pork puffs and egg tarts both had soft crumbly pastries (: hope they keep it up!

Best Dim Sum. Out of this world. What an adventure. One of the best food experiences my fiancé and I have ever experienced together. Amazing food. Wonderful service. Just perfect. Thank you.

Super efficient and delicious.. Great selection. Everything was delicious.
We were served within 20 seconds of taking seat. Finished my meal 10 minutes later. From entering to fixing the bill ( very affordable) it took 12 minutes. Bang Bang Bang.

Did I mention this food is an awesome hangover cure and opens up at 9am on a Saturday ? I will return many times this place kicks ass.

Food was crap. Just crap.

Food ok service not so. New Moon is like any other dim sum restaurants in Perth. Food is okay but service is not good. No smiles from the wait staff. I have been here 3 times usually on the weekends over the past few months and the service is always the same. It is unfortunate that the better dim sum restaurants are located in Northbridge cos' none of them give good service. They only care for those who are regular customers. Don't they know that new customers or occasional customers can become regular ones if they are treated right?

.. Service charges ..?. Although I understand the 10% public holiday charge and all, I don't actually understand the $1.50 service charge PER head.. for just sitting down and having a cup of tea..

Will have to limit my visit to New Moon as I feel that's getting a bit on the greedy side. Food is always good. but that's why we pay premium for dumplings there, but to then add a service charge..?
