Review Le Papillon - Perth

Paul Denne
One of the Best coffees in Perth. Bespoke artisan pastries and savouries by the French owners. They make everything on site, not just an outlet. CASH ONLY

So good I had to get a second serving!!!! Food and coffee is stunning.

Ordered the chocolate caramel tart for my birthday and it was the best! The gentleman who served me was so lovely and helpful, letting me know the best way for the tart to be served. I can't wait to try everything else in the store!

We got a pain au chocolat and a plain croissant to takeaway. The texture of the pastry is more like a bread and not good quality puff pastry. It doesn’t appear to be made with the correct ratio of butter (or not enough folds) as there is little to no lamination. We bought it on a Saturday at about 9.00am and both tasted a bit stale and dry. Not sure if we were sold products from the day before or if this is the usual quality. As a first impression it was not good enough to try again.

We tried profiteroles from all over Perth, trying to find the best ones for our wedding croquembouche. Hands down these guys make the best ones and everyone at our wedding was raving about how good it looked and tasted!

Wonderful! Gourmet countryside taste, rich pastry and tasty filling, I’d say it’s homemade cooking! The service was kind and attentive to our needs. Hidden gem kind of atmosphere 🎀

Worst Bakery I remember to have been in Australia. The two french persons working were very rude and not kind at all. We got one crossaint and one danish, both of them were not good at all but we decided to dont say anything. We also ordered a cappucino and a chai latte. The cappucino was not good at all and cold. The chai latte was also cold and not good. I asked for Cinnamon for the chai latte and they didnt have it (who doesnt have cinnamon in an bakery?? Especially selling chai latte). Then we asked for another cappuccino because it was cold and the guy did a new one which was actually good, which proves they can do good if they want. Then the worst part comes: when we got the new cappucino, the guy waited in the door, looking at us with bad face, waiting for a positive feedback which we gave. Then he looked to the other worker and did a gesture on the throat saying like "we kill them". Not recommend at all, We have passed 5 bakeries on the way there and I am sure we could find a better one.

My partner & I love going to this Patisserie for Sunday Breakfast’s! Great Food, coffee and staff! we especially love the homemade sausage rolls! They are dog friendly and can park right out the front :)

We popped into Le Papillon for a quick coffee and pastry. This cafe is on Lakeside Drive in Joondalup and has seating inside and out. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they have freshly ground decaf beans (so many cafes just use decaf powder, which is never very good). I asked for almond croissants, and they didn’t have any ready, but the nice lady said she would have some freshly made in ten minutes.

I love this place! I stumbled across Le Papillon earlier this year when in the area and stopped in for a coffee and was drooling over all the pastries and cakes. Everything looks delicious! Today I was back in Joondalup area and craving a French style baguette and remembered this place. It definitely hit the spot, the owner made it fresh from scratch and it was delicious.
The owners are super friendly and were out on the floor chatting to their clientele. I'll definitely be back to sample more goodies next time I'm up that way :-)

This lovely cafe has moved to Joondalup, lucky us in the North! Beautiful croissants and pastries, the owners are really friendly and makes you feel so welcome. Absolutely love this place.

The coffee was great the second time around. I haven’t tried the food but it looks good and the place is consistently patronised, so that’s a good sign.

This is such a quaint little cafe in the streets of North Perth 💜 although the owners are not French and do not speak French (á la the papillon name), this homely cafe is extremely welcoming and a great addition to the local area.

The coffee blend isn't anything fancy, but is delicious and perfect to be coupled with an iced coffee or a flat white with sugar. I almost come here everyday without fault and the owners are what draws me back in. They're beautiful people who are running a successful business in a tough market.

The food can slightly be a let down sometimes - merely only lacking in seasoning and being a tad expensive for what you get. Yet the croissants are always tasty and the breakfast bagel is always good.

I recommend you hit this place up with a good friend to indulge in almond croissants with a good cup of coffee 😁

One of the best coffee places in Perth. Delicious croissants and tarts. Good place to eat, drink coffee and read the paper. Worth the quick walk down to Hyde Park if time for a stroll.

Absolutely love coming to this place for a quick bite and a great coffee. I always go for the avocado, salmon and cream cheese fresh hot filled croissant and then something sweet as well! Everything is so fresh and delicious we continue to come back weekly

Went today for a baguette. They had run out of avocado and egg so being a vegetarian I went for the cream cheese and salad. I thought it might be a bit plain but I was so tasty and delicious! Reasonably priced and the coffee was good but could have been better. Would recommend this place for sure!

It's a nice close little spot for me, the sweets are very nice and the staff are lovely but I keep making the mistake of getting savoury food when I'm there, it's quite bland and they constantly toast things when I specifically ask them not to.

Stopped in for a coffee, tea, croissant, hot cross bun this morning after a walk in Hyde Park. A lovely little local, very pleasant staff too. Husband had coffee and scrambled egg croissant - he was wowed by the coffee, out of this world he said.Tea was the real thing (no teabags, thank you), much appreciated by myself. I had a toasted hot cross bun which was nice. All in all, most enjoyable.

Would say that the best items that Le Papillon has to offer are actually croissants, which they fill and toast for you. The apple and custard one is incredibly good! I want one thinking about it now actually.. (or ham/swiss/tomato if you're savoury inclined).

I'd recommend the tarts (esp lemon) as these are always consistently good, but find their other sweets a bit hit and miss, the cakes and cookies a bit dry for my liking.

The coffee is.. on par with Dome? ;/ Service is always very polite.

Great little cafe in Hyde park, the best service no matter what time of day and all the staff are amazing. coffee is tops ! Their pastries are also amazing 😊

Egg and I sometimes pop into Le Papillon for a bite of lunch. It's right near Hyde Park with free parking, the service is friendly and we can always jag a table.

There's a range of baguettes and croissants on offer, but I generally prefer a plain old sandwich. Not fancy but sometimes that's just what you feel like. As long as I can get a good quality long mac, I am happy. On the subject of coffees, this place does a sterling job and I've always been satisfied.

They also make a few tarts and pies, and I have tried their salmon and asparagus version. This was ok, but not something I'd order again, as it was tinned salmon used and not fresh or smoked. Not bad, but there are better versions around.

There's an interesting range of sweet things on offer too, and I remember some years back buying some amazing hot cross buns just before Easter. Not sure if they still make them or if they still as good, but they were some of the best I've tried.

In short, the fare is quite basic, but it's a pleasant little place and away from the busy part of Northbridge.

Have been coming here on and off for 4 years - consistently friendly staff and nice coffee. Service is prompt even when busy. The pastries are lovely but really expensive - $4.50 for a chocolate croissant seems crazy even for Perth, but the sandwiches and baguettes are tasty, filling and much better value. I've had most of the different baguettes, and they are all lovely and quite generously filled. The multigrain bread or baguettes are nicer than the plain versions. The key lime and lemon tarts are good, and so are the oat slices. It's pretty relaxed - have sat here for ages chatting on a few occasions without any pressure to order more coffees. They are also noticeably welcoming to customers in wheelchairs.

One of the best coffee spots in perth. Coffee is absolutely gorgeous

I waited for over 5min while the staff chatted back in the kitchen before being served over prices, incredibly average food. Won't be rushing back anytime soon.

A cozy little place with great potential. The pastries are delightful and the drinks hit the spot.

Great coffee. A regular stop :). I stop here for coffee regularly on my way past and the coffee is always tops. They also make these little donuts which are filled with different flavors. I would recommend giving all of them a go. Seriously yummy! The lady on the coffee machine is always very friendly too.

Didn't look like much from the outside and very small too. But as I walked in, I was greeted with big smiles and friendly service. The place looks warm on the inside and the food was promptly served. We were well looked after and I was pleasantly surprised at this little gem.

Ambience. Friendly service. Quality food and coffee.
Hidden gem. Doesn't look much from outside, unlike the latest trendy hipster spots. Appearances can be deceiving, however. Easily the best coffee shop in the area.

Indulgence of the best kind!. Le Papillon Patisserie does a fabulous High Tea, which I would highly recommend. This cafe is full of character and appeal. The staff are great fun and very accommodating and the food is tremendous. Unlike other spots that cater for High Tea Le Papillon is all delicious home made treats.
Ruth
Lovely high tea- used a voucher but was not treated like a 'voucher customer'- great service, huge range of bites - almond croissants and quiches just perfect. Very impressed :)

Lovely place near Hyde Park, old world charm, beautiful food, great service and fabulous coffee, well done !!

Delightful service delicious food. Just wanted to drop a note saying the staff were delightful today with their service of our high tea this afternoon. The croissants were delicious and so were the quiche. Scones were fluffy and light and coffee was perfect.
It makes such a big difference to have attentive and sweet staff; which is rare in Perth. So yay! And will be returning back soon.

Soy Latte's to die for...... There are a lot of crappy soy latte's to be had around Perth and I think we've found them all. Then we had cause to stop by the LPP and we've never looked back. We too now travel from out of our way destinations to come and get our morning fix here. They also do a lot of their own home made cakes and tarts and mouth watering pastries. I can vouch for their gorgeous home made Almond and Fruit tarts and almond croissants which until I went onto my diet I used to buy all time. They're a real trap!

Sure there are cheaper Latte's to be had in Perth but I'd rather spend $6 and die in heaven than spend $4.50 and wish I hadn't but finish it because I'd paid for it. We recently threw out 2 x "Really Big Ones" from Muzz Buzz ($15.00) and drove about 8kms to redeem our taste buds with a LPP coffee then drove back. Lesson learned!

We now use their 'Soy Latte' as a benchmark (a '10') followed by a pretty good Miss Mauds Warwick Soy Latte (7.5). After that come the "ordinary's" ie the Domes and the like (score of about a 5). Anything below that is now a throw away and another of lifes lessons!

So for the best Soy Latte's Sandra and I have found .... go to Le Papillon in Bulwer Street, Perth. We definitely recommend them.

Le Papillion. Brilliant coffee the best in Perth, especially if Kasumi makes it ! (not sure I spelt your name right though )
Staff are friendly, very friendly, i can't see why anyone bags this place, it's cakes are lovely, baggettes fresh and tasty and coffee i drive from Bayswater to get so does my neighbour. Hi To Clive Liz, Jess, Kasumi and Kate, did i forget anyone ? Jen

Lovely food, terrible staff. The terrible service has surprised me every time I've been to Le Papillon. I keep coming back for the delicious caramel nut shortbread but the service is getting worse and worse. Last time I went the girl on the counter was impatient (even though there was no one else waiting) and couldn't crack a smile. When we finally got our food it was flung on the table while the waitress was talking to someone else. Very disappointing.

Amazing Food+Coffee. Wow, this place is so good! They make all their own food, and it tastes great, especially the croissants. The other food they have are tasty sweets and fantastic quiche/tarts of many flavours. The coffee is always quite good, though sometimes it's not as good as other times. They have very large takeaway cups (grande, lol) too for good prices.

The decorations are a bit hilarious, poems (if you can say that) obviously made my the owner or perhaps the owner's child? It's in a nice place, just near hyde park, and sitting outside is nice, inside it has air conditioning :P

Overall this is a really nice place to get coffee, and ever greater if you want food! 5 stars.

Just wondering????. I was just wondering if in this cafe do you sell le papillon and if you do can you show me a photo of it.

thankyou. :)

Delicious chocolate croissant and a great coffee. Had a lovely chocolate croissant for $4. It was nice and flaky, with just the right amount of rich dark chocolate. Sweet but not too sweet. Could have easily eaten another one. Skinny cap was also wonderful, with lots of chocolate on top, glistening as it absorbed into the milky foam. It came out after the croissant, which would normally make the coffee seem more bitter, but this was not the case.

The wooden tables and chairs and chequered table cloths gave the place a homely, country sort of feel. Service was fine, staff were polite, and I thought the prices were ok. Wasn't too busy when I was there, but it was just after 7am on a weekday so I don't find that surprising.

Pretty much everything looked delicious - there was a great selection of tarts, cakes and other sweets on display, as well as a number of different kinds of croissant sandwiches, quiches and savoury pastries. Sweet croissants (and a few other sweet breads), are in baskets behind the counter. Would love to go back to try some of the savoury items and (of course) more of the sweets.

Expensive Coffee. This place used to have amazing pastries and petit fours..but that was a long time ago. The place lacks atmosphere and the interior needs a bit of an update. The coffee was average which always makes you cross after paying $4.50 for it. Why is soy so much more as well? A litre of soy only costs about 30c more than milk... someone please explain

Great coffee and pan aux chocolate. I frequently stop by these guys when in North Perth, the Five Senses blend they have is my fav, it's the same as I like after having ordered and tried 12 different flavours...and the pastries and fresh rolls are very good, if a little pricey.
I like the chocolate croissants, the apple pastry too.
Very nice for lunch, or breakfast...

Cosy spot for breakkie if you can snag a table.

Once upon a time I raved about this place however over the last few months it has continually disappointed! Burnt coffee & day old pastries. I expect more from a patisserie.

-----02 Jun, 2009-----

The best almond croissant's in Perth, delicious!

Likes: delicious sweet treats and buttery croissants; Dislikes: food envy, but you can always share food with friends!
