Review Insan's Cafe - Perth

Toki Hasmun
Authentic Malay cuisine, good service and great price. Tried rendang kambing, tenggiri masak pedas, fried kembung and vegi.. was delicious and on par with many KL restaurants. The premise is clean and staff and friendly. Recommended

This restaurant is a hero! Especially for people from Southeast Asia who are travelling on budget. You can eat rice+1choice of veg and meat (small) for only $9 and the portion is actually so big! The place is really clean and it's in the center of Perth CBD. Easy to find.

it used to be really good. but plenty of management changes, and the quality of food seems to have dip. lately it seems to have gotten better, but i still play it safe and normally go for their Mee Goreng Mamak

This place used to serve a killer Lamb Biryani. But when I went there the other day, they had discontinued the Biryani. So I had to make do with Nasi Goreng Ayam (Chicken Fried Rice). Turned out it was quite good. This place is not air-conditioned, so go on pleasant days. This place serves Malaysian cuisine. It is a nice place to have a quick meal on a busy afternoon.

This place is in the heart of the city. We found the food so affordable and yummy. Truly Msian malay food... the Ayam Masak Merah and Daging Rendang Hijau was on point and the roti canai was freshly made. We will definitely be back

It's nice to have delicious roti canai and lamb curry Malaysian style, with good hot coffee. Staff very friendly and fast service. Highly recommended. Will eat there again.

The food here is incredibly nice and with the large portion, do not buy too much food here. Is really filling.

Went here several times during our trip.A good place to eat Halal malay food and it tastes great overall, also friendly staffs n owner. Those whom complaint about the difference in taste should never even bother leaving their hometown n just go eat at their regular tomyam joint. Rugi laa da smpai Perth tapi makanan rasa macam nasi goreng kt Kokdiang!

Good place to have Malaysian food in Perth. They have quite variety of MY food. Price was reasonable for the big portion

Went there ... as it was during iftar I asked the counter if there's a room for solat .. the girl told me that customer are not allowed to utilize the prayer room ... now that's new .. I would appreciate if she would have said there are no prayer room instead of saying customer are not allowed to use the prayer room ! By the way ... I ordered two dishes which is nasi goreng special and mee Hailam ... I found that it was a too salty to my liking on both ! Sad thing was when I complained to the staff she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off ... Don't think I would be going there ever again ..

Went there today for our late lunch, wasn't been greeted at all as they look at us like 'we're in the wrong place' , then we took the menu our self and decide what to order, first I went there and place the order for my family and i can't decided whether to have nasi goreng or meggi goreng, the guy at the counter looks pissed as he just can't wait for me to finish my order, then I saw that and just order nasi goreng as he looks in a hurry, I end up 'THANKING' him after finished my eftpos transaction and went back to our seat. No smile no nothing from the guy, and I was like yeaaahhh that's the customer service from your community people. Please I'd like to suggest to the manager or staff if you want to go far in this industry, especially here in Perth we're very high in customer service, greet the customer thanking them and it only takes a second for you to do it, this is not Malaysia where everyone will be busy talking and playing with their phone all the time without acknowledging the customers, I brought my family there as we're torn between Insan's & karache cafe, and karache always the best service by the owners, we're disappointed, even my family notice this and feels disgust really. Even though the food is not that expensive no wonder with such service. Probably visitors from Malaysia/Singapore feels welcome with such service but for us locals thumbs down and honestly I would never take my family/friends there ever again and would give a bad feedback to whoever that ask about you guys. The service were even better at the food court by other nationality and this is what we got by trying to help/support our own people. ohh and we even thanking them before we left and the guy at the counter just too busy with his phone then their customers.

Overall dishes are good. If U wanna solat, there's a place next door. Ask the counter for direction.

Ordered takeaway through Uber Eats. Came fast , was hot and was delicious! I can recommend the pineapple nasi (rice) yuuumooo =)

We tried to order on Uber eats half an hour before closing time. Instead of rejecting the order straight away, we were left hanging only to get the order cancelled by the restaurant 20 mins later. Do not accept in the first place if you cannot provide the service.

Chanced upon this place accidentally and it was a yummy find. My son and I shared a Nasi ayam goreng as the portion was big. Then we also ordered a roti canai for takeaway. Since it was being prepared fresh, we had to wait a while for it.

One of the best halal chaineries located at Murray Street. Serving best local traditional Malay dishes hailing from Malaysia. Recommended to those tourist from Malaysia & Singapore if you missed home cooked food.

I recommend to try the Tom Yam Soup, Chicken Soup & Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin. The best. Staff was friendly & helpful in taking & recommending your order. For the 7 days trip, I patronized Insan's almost daily! Recommended to all!
The Black Hole
The food taste really and i can definitely see them cooking it fresh and straight onto the ban maries to too it up. They're tahtarek tea is amaze balls

This place hands down has amazing Nasi Goreng Pattaya!

Nasi Goreng Pattaya is just friend rice with a massive egg wrapped over the rice with some chilli sauce !

The servings here are also very generous and the staff are friendly!
If you are looking for good Malaysian food this is the place to come ! I definitely recommend the Nasi Goreng Pattaya with fried chicken 🍗

Food arrived a little slow, but it was definitely worth it. The nasi goreng cili padi is great, but the star of the show was the sup ekor. Extremely flavorful! ♥️

Good food, portion is large and tastes very Malaysian. Great for family's dinner and reasonably priced. The place is easy to find but there is no parking in front of the retaurant. We had to park at one of the Wilson parking.
Chathura Limal
One of the best nasi goreng kampung in town. If you like spicy, ask the staff and they know what they are doing. Price is reasonable. A must try place

HIDDEN GEM
Don't be fooled by the exterior! At first I was a little hesitant but as soon as my plate reached the table I was glad I listened to my instincts! I ordered a vegetarian Mi Goreng (which they kindly discounted for me as it's not advertised as vegetarian but they made it so) and it was so delicious! The veggies were colouful and fresh, mixed with egg, noodles and a tasty mi goreng sauce! The staff are welcoming and accomodating. So impressed with the food, I defiantly will be returning 👌😍

Im a Roti fan through and through and if there is a better place to get Roti channai in Perth let me know because the Roti at Insans are off the hook!
The chicken curry is tasty and authentic and the servings are generous.
Uncle Wong
Not fresh, taste bad. We had a rebus noodles recently and it was very watery and tasteless. The worst part is the chicken meat in the noodles taste really awfull, we assume the chicken meat was very very not fresh.

Horrible food.. Looks nothing like the picture.

Courteous staff, great prices and tasty food

Its good... but.... Food is enjoyable. The Ikan Billis is terrible though, there is no crispness to it at all, and feels more like overglazed cornflakes than Ikan Billis. The Rendang is enjoyable, the serving size is adequite. Staff are very friendly.

Worse experience. As this is one of the few Malaysian Halal places in town, we decided to pay a visit. On Friday at about 7:30 pm we called and was told by Insans cafe that they are open till 10:00pm. we arrived there by 8:30 and all we get with the owner is excuses. you can choose from the curries and have your meal in 15 minutes or take away as we are closing. I was stunned as we went as a complete family and confirmed that they will be open. The owner said that as we have few customers today that is why we are not serving and closing at 9. what a rip off. we travelled all the way to listen to this ...... I told him on the face that we are thoroughly disappointed and even though we have to eat halal food and there are not a lot of places but we would never turn up at this restaurant any more.

Used to have better customer service when they first started but I guess like with all businesses, once it is blossoming, arrogance kicks in. Less generous with their servings, charge for every little thing: chilli, containers etc or maybe it is just the individual at front d house. But definitely disappointe with today's visit. Used to recommend to people but If this attitude continues, won't be back and won't recommend others

Insane malaysian. OMG, Nasi Goreng Kampung and Mamak is the best! The plate is always full, every time i have to go empty to eat all!

But if u order fresh juice, u should tell the girls u dont need sugar...or u will get some.

So tasty. We eat out more than we cook these days and have our regular haunts. Hadn't been to insans for a while and took a friend after the art gallery. Didn't let us down. Three of us ate for under $50. Food was so tasty. Staff were polite, told us it would take 20mins to cook. Arrived fresh and hot. Thanks insans

Food n courtesy. I went for my lunch there and the chicken was so salty and the beef rendang was tough .The lady at the counter did not even apologise instead push aside the beef and asked what I would like to replace for the tough beef, without the slightest guilt.

No taste!. As a lover of Malaysian cuisine I found Insans lacking in the taste department. The portions are good but the curries are very watered down and mild. I don't know if this is because they cater for western taste buds or not but with much tastier options out there I think I will give Insans a miss..

The worst ethical business!!. Insan's cafe would not take a booking for a scoopon type of voucher PREPAID despite several...I mean several attempts to redeem the offer. It is quite obvious as the reasons they would give in order not to take the booking are as follows.."we are not open for business for the next few days as it is Ramazan festival" or " we are not open for the next full week as we have a private function" or if I try to book in for the following week despite their unbelievable reasons the manager says "we don't know for sure when we will be open".. So literally I have aid for it and chasing to get my money's worth and wasting lot of time, frustration, pain and embarrassment in front of family! would never consider them or recommend them!

Awesome Biriyani. Went to Insan's Cafe yesterday and order Biriyani.
Didnt expect the food to turn out that good.
When I had the first mouth food, I am in love with the Biriyani. Try Biriyani many places in Perth but I swear this is the best Biriyani I have tasted in Perth!

I always order their insans nasi goreng, nasi goreng kampung, mi goreng mamak and teh tarik. Theyre very generous w rice portions. Tasty food, authentic, friendly staff.
Eight Seconds Of Food
Good Malaysian food. Love the Nasi Goreng Special!
Cafe Addict
Pretty good, inexpensive, LOTS of rice. Have eaten here a couple times and like the place, it's not expensive and the food is alright, though I've encountered a few mishaps - inconsistent food temperatures and prawn tails in my fried rice (not attached to prawns).

Despite this I still think the food tastes pretty good. The girls at the counter are friendly but I suspect may struggle a little with their English - one girl wasn't able to tell me what the desserts were, so I just had to point and guess but it turned out alright, I enjoyed my slice of rice with green stuff on top (I've seen it before, eventually I'll look up the name). It was good, not too sweet, and for $2.50 how can you go wrong? Also liked my Teh tarik, which was nice and sweet.

The only downside for me is they serve most of the dishes with a ton of rice, and I find the food to be a little heavy already with lots of sauce, so it can be very filling (depending on what you order).

Nice food!. Almost everything on the menu is nice! reasonably priced too :)
Terrine De Lapin
At lunchtime this place is full of Malay people & several Chinese so it must be good. Service a tiny bit slow. Love the oxtail soup
Queen Of Bad Timing
It's often overlooked but is actually quite a popular spot for those in the know of where to get a good roti canai. It's simple but oh so tasty.

Likes: delish satay sauce and mi goreng, lunch for about $10; Dislikes: small serving of steamed vegies in the gado-gado, microwaved packet roti; Value for money: decent

The verdict, Insan's is definitely generous with their portions of rice, but the dishes are a little lacking in terms of taste. I guess, that is the result of serving Malaysian food with an added twist from the owners'€™ homeland.
