Review Hanami Japanese Restaurant - Perth

Hieu Huynh
Hanami is a family friendly Japanese restaurant that is always good value for money and full of life. We ordered a lot of food and it came out bit by bit which was appreciated. Everything was on point from sushi to the tuna to the chicken. Suits the sophisticated diner and the 5 year old eating chicken nuggets.

This is my favourite Japanese restaurant in all of Perth. The first time I came here they were a small restaurant with exceptional service and good pace in delivering meals. Since then, they have expanded and have not slowed down at all! They have a large variety of food to choose from! Sushi rolls, bento boxes, teppanyaki, takoyaki, tempura… it’s endless. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been here but I can never get enough of the izayaki (grilled squid)! If you’re looking for an amazing Japanese restaurant, you definitely need to give Hanami a go!

This is the 3rd times we have been there. Good menu and excellent food 😋 We ordered Sashimi salmon, beef Tataki and Chicken Tepenyaki were all excellent👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Serving food was quick 😁 Highly recommended

We ordered a variety of dishes. Some were great so were okay. The sushi rice was too soft, making the sushi less enjoyable. The soft shell crab with watermelon was sub par, we had better so we could make a comparison. The sashimi was great, so was the fish. The wagyu beef was okay and the most expensive out of all. The Katsu chicken bento was good. Most of all we loved the takoyaki and the warm sake. Service was quick considering the place was packed for Saturday dinner.

Fantastic place with delicious food. Great ambience with an authentic Japanese vibe. We ordered the mixed seafood tempura, unagi (eel) roll and soft shell crab with watermelon. The tempura was delicious. Crunchy and light. The seafood was so tasty and cooked so well. And the serving sauces were perfect for the dish. The unagi roll was well made and so fresh. We really enjoyed it. It was my first time trying eel and it was displayed so well on top of the reversed sushi roll. The standout dish for me was the soft shell crab with watermelon. The sauce is so delicious and crab was amazing. So tasty. Such great flavours and the watermelon compliments the crab so well. Great experience overall. The service is quick and friendly. Will be returning to try more of their delicious dishes.

The best Japanese I’ve had in a long time. Sashimi was so fresh, we also got the raptor role and yaki tori which were amazing, lotus chips were great too. The portion sizes were very generous and they gave us extra ginger, wasabi and soy. We will be back 😊

Enjoyed our dinner there with fresh sashimi, grilled squid, karage chicken, tempura prawns as entree. 4 of us each ordered a set menu and the food come with high standard which not only filled our stomach but also satisfied our tastebuds 👍👍 kids has sushi rolls and dumplings 👏👏👏👏 Definitely recommend to everyone!! Remember to reserve a table as it gets really busy during the dinner time.

4.4 stars!! you guys must be joking. Pork chop with curry, it only served half of the pork chop. Sashimi is supposed to come with shredded white radish not carrots. It's a weird Yakitori. What happened to the scallion? And the waitress handed out food with one hand... maybe it is normal here in Australia, but I have never seen such a service in Japan, or Japanese operate Japanese restaurant. The rice is beyond substandard. Anyone who visits Japan will understand these issues.
Renato
The service is ok but not great... and the food was a little better. It comes very quickly and was mostly good, but the grilled squid was tough as guts. Will try again and order some different dishes.
Harsh But Fair
The view out to the car park may not be that flash but holey moley they dish up some traditional food and do it well. Consistency is essential and they ace that element every time. Pop this little gem on your list!

This place never disappoints ! Food comes out quick even when flat out busy and the servings sizes are fair for what you pay.<br/>Favorite dishes are salmon temaki, tempura prawns and tepinyaki chicken.

I got a last minute booking on a busy Saturday night.<br/>Whilst the staff were quick and friendly I found the food to be lacking in flavour. The tataki and takoyaki were nice but I thought the agedashi tofu lacked balance, the squid was grilled beautifully but could have used a little extra seasoning and the sushi was okay. Nice restaurant but there is better japanese in Perth.

Utterly disappointed with the restaurant. Menu options are limited, overpriced, and not authentic. Something as simple as salmon sushi couldn’t even be well executed. The salmon was just off-pieces, mixed in with mayonnaise. The entire taste was mushy, you could barely taste salmon as the mayonnaise overpowered. There was mayonnaise in the tuna sushi as well, which again overpowered the taste. Even so, the tuna was almost tasteless, but at least it was whole pieces. <br/><br/>From the seat we were sitting at, we could observe the kitchen. Their bentos are prepackes in the fridge, meaning their salad isn’t fresh. Edamame beans were microwaved.<br/><br/>You can tell that they’re not authentic to Japanese cuisine, their attire isn’t even accurate - the yukata (not kimono) is wrapped the wrong way, and have a large slit opening for the leg. The staff were even wearing socks and slippers which is not restaurant appropriate footwear, and also a disgrace to Japanese culture. <br/><br/>What else can I say when their menu offers bibimbap and bulgogi - Korean dishes. They also serve sriracha sauce as a condiment?

Had a great meal last night at Hanami with a big family group. Food was delicious, friendly service, great for kids. Everyone enjoyed it - thank you!

What we ordered:<br/><br/>Vegetable Korokke<br/><br/>Lotus Chips<br/><br/>Vegetable Sushi<br/><br/>Pros:<br/><br/>Very efficient and fast service.<br/><br/>Gets quite crowded and is a quite popular place for dinner on a Friday night.<br/><br/>If you get lucky, you might get a more traditional seating called Tanami.<br/><br/>A lot of free parking is available.<br/><br/>The korokke, lotus chips and vegetable sushi tasted excellent.<br/><br/>Cons:<br/><br/>For vegetarians, this restaurant lacks options and flexibility<br/><br/>The only vegetarian options available are sushi and a few entrees.<br/><br/>The vegetable tempura Udon is made from chicken stock so although it may sound vegetarian on the menu it is not vegetarian.<br/><br/>You cannot get an assortment of vegetarian sushi but have to choose the same type of sushi which can get boring if you are the only vegetarian in the group and you want to try more than one kind.<br/><br/>The taste is excellent, but many restaurants serve the same vegetarian options that taste just as good and may even offer more vegetarian options.

This is always been a favourite in Mount Lawley when feeling like a good sushi roll. The spider roll and hand rolls always hit the spot, and the 10 piece assorted sushi never disappoints.

🍣 Tried sashimi lunch special for $20, was delicious, FRESHLY MADE (!) which is where I’m constantly left disappointed. Lunch kit came with bowl of rice and miso soup. Everything was delicious. Oh, and they use REAL WASABI! 😊<br/>💵 A little expensive for what I got but wasn’t left disappointed either. <br/>🙋🏻‍♀️Service was pretty good.<br/>🍃 Authentic Japanese restaurant, areas to sit on the ground or at a table. Very clean, very spacious.<br/>👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Not sure how family friendly this place would be. Do your kids like sushi? <br/>🚘 Not much dedicated parking outside, only a few places and some labeled for nearby cafe and hardware store.<br/>👍🏻 Overall, a nice place for lunch. Pity it’s located in such a busy area though for finding/driving/parking.

First try of the place. Ordered several more dishes as we went for big group. Service was good and fast. Japanese pork Katsu curry has decent taste and big portion. Teriyaki fish set taste delicious, even my 1.5yrs old gal love it so much. Definitely will be back again.
ITSFOODNET
The service is good, ordered the spici tuna roll, the spicy sauce was not good though. Overall they offer nice Japanese food, you will find quality sea food at reasonable prices. Family friendly atmosphere.

I'm not sure why this restaurant has such a high score!<br/>My family and I ducked in for a bit of lunch. Food was okay, nothing great. But the service was rude. So bad, we will not return
Laureli16
We loved our lunch at Hanami. The food was light and delicate and exceptionally presented. The sashimi plentiful and great value in comparison with other restaurants. The karaage chicken was mind blowingly awesome, ticked all the boxes - the batter light and chicken perfectly cooked. Could hardly fault this experience , though waiters should do the food more justice service - not bad, just functional with no passion or quality checks.

This place has good reviews for food and I was keen to go for a quick meal with my kids. We arrived and were greeted with a surly man behind the desk. We hadn’t booked. It is a busy place and I appreciate that walk-ins are sometimes troublesome, but having just returned from the Gold Coast where the service was amazing, I was a little surprised. Anyway he dumped us at the table by the door and bustled off. So we sat. And we sat. There was no buzzer on our table. I stared at him. I realised I probably looked rude because I was looking for his attention but alas, I was dog poo on the shoe of Hanami. I’m a normal, middle aged person who likes to indulge in Japanese food but Hanami has no time for me. The queue grew at the door. It sure was popular. <br/>Eventually sour face came to take our order. We had around 30 seconds to choose. I ordered hastily to try and remove the sour look but it wasn’t fast enough. <br/>Food arrived quickly and was practically thrown at the table. <br/>The kids thought it was because of them. There was something about us that Hanami didn’t want. <br/>My response to that is - turn me away at the door. Say you are full but you’d love me to come back when I have a booking. Show some courtesy. <br/>Rude. Rude. Staff.

My favorite Japanies restaurant in Perth hands down! So fresh and delicious. Staff are friendly although you need to book during weekends... busy place! The sushi’s are massive now so I always get a 5 piece and can’t finish. Miso soup amazing :)
Dan Adele
Tasty fresh food, great service, consistently! This place is a staple for delicious takeaway and a good in house casual dinner. Great for couples, families or large groups. Highly recommend!

Not a bad restaurant. The<br/>food is good with generous portions. The service wasn't great. There was a<br/>buzzer on the table to call a waitperson, however we did not realise until the<br/>end what it actually was, as no one had told us. Also we ordered quite a few<br/>dishes to share and it came out all at once, which resulted in the table to be<br/>overloaded. We had to ask for the food to be staggered a little bit, but by<br/>that time we had no room left on the table. I would recommend if you were in<br/>the area or going to a show at the Astor Theatre which is a few doors down.

This is a lovely little gem in Perth. Japanese is one of my favourite cuisine and this place is definitely a keeper on my list. I wouldn't say the food here is 100% authentic in terms of flavour but they are quite pleasing to eat and menu items not overly priced like most proper Japanese restaurants. Could definitely be more generous on the wasabi given with their dishes though. Staff were friendly, however, it would have been even better if they were more attentive to table service. We had to wait for quite sometime and with multiple attempts just to try to get attention of the staff. Friendly farewell when we paid the bill which was a lovely finish to our dinning experience.

I and my friend had lunch here.  The lunch is good.  Nothing is so fancy (as it is lunch menu), but the taste is excellent.  The salad dressing is wonderful, tangy and refreshment.  Next time we will go for diner.  I would recommend to my friends for lunch here. The price is average.
Whynot
My favourite place to go for sushi! The portion size is great, it’s fresh and the price for the sushi is decent. I also tried their ice cream and the presentation was very cute but it’s pretty average so I wouldn’t get it again. However a lot of their other dishes are a little pricey even though their portions sizes are the same as other places so I usually just stick with the sushi. The service is good but there could be room for improvement as it was hard for me to get the staff’s attention to order and it takes them quite a long time to make the food. I would recommend for people to make a booking especially on busy nights like saturdays and fridays. It’s a good place to eat at if you like to take it slow and chat.
Bex
Yum yum yum!! Flavour flavour flavour! I mean look at the photos people! It really does taste as good as it looks! We came here as a large party for a birthday and so we pretty much ordered half the menu. Wasn’t a thing on the table I didn’t like. Nuff said. If I had to be picky about something, I’d maybe have a whinge about the price. Not cheap but hey it was good eating.
Lakmonsta
Great for sharing, even though some options are far too tasty and you’ll try to keep them to yourself. Soft shell crab sushi being one of those. Quick, easy, friendly service. Not too noisy, not too quiet.

Something very wrong with this place, the decor the staff the whole interior the food!! not authentic japanese at all. I think was just cheap ingredients dressed up as 'japanese cuisine' but not any better than a local shopping centre japanese take away<br/>
Big Eyes
Having just returned from an overseas trip, I was looking forward to cleanse my palate with fresh sashimi and salad at my ever- dependable Hanami. Today we were disappointed with the slow service and the salad which was drenched in oil. Unfortunately this is not the first time we have disappointed over the past 6 months. Contemplating finding another local Japanese favourite.
Carmen Wong
I was so impressed by this little gem in Mt Lawley - food was delicately made, service was spot on and ambience was great. The tempura batter was real crispy and delicate; beef tataki was cooked just right and seasoned well; salmon tray served pretty fresh sashimi. Overall would recommend this place and come back again!
Dan W
Decent Japanese food and large servings. I had the oyakodon set meal. The chicken and egg was decent, however was a bit too salty for my liking. The rice felt slightly dry. Other than that, no complaints. It's a decent place and parking is easy.
Mark Kelly
One of my favourite japanese restaurant in perth. Always come back when i have the chance. Food is always delicious and well prepared. Only downfall is seatings for couples should be more private, especially for bookings. Gets a bit cramped up when there are soo much other availability and spare space.
Eric Mu
Horrible place! The food is terrible! NOT fresh! NOT tasty! NOT in good style and NOT cheap! you do not many other choice in MT lawley area for Japanese food. So that's why they are still doing well in business.
Monique Francois
Really fresh and tasty! Highly recommend. Took one point off for a combination of mains coming out too soon after entrees, plates not being cleared and one dish was dry (pork katsu, I think?) there were 8 of us and 7 of us enjoyed our meals! I would come here again :)
Luka Neo
Definitely did not disappoint. Been here multiple times and the food and service is consistently good! Also eating on the table that dips down is a cool experience. Would love to come again
MissFoodie
Fast service and amazing food. We ordered way too much food to name but everything that night was superb 👌🏼 probably except the tempura dish lol. The matcha dessert I had at the end was sooo good. We'll definitely be back again!
HungryHippo122
I'm not a huge fan of the Japanese cuisine, however Hanami always impresses. Food is fresh and tasty and the service is efficient and friendly. A good option for groups or intimate, casual dining. Favourites include the Hanami special salad and beef tataki.
Shilakim823
This place offered very good price and also very big portion food. Every time I went there, they were always busy. The only thing I am disappoint about them was their customer service. I have to say their customer service was below average.
Wendy Ha
Good location, not a lot of parking. This place is always busy on the weekends so make sure you book. Service is quick and staff are friendly. The food is delicious, I always over order. The tempura tastes really good but gets sickening very quickly
Ashleigh Jayne
This is by far, one of the best japanese restaurants I have dined at. Extremely fast service, great food, exceptional service. It is fantastic to have a restaurant so cultured locally. Highly recommend!
Food_Glorious_Food
Came for dinner with a fairly large group (8 people). Biggest gripe was the timing of the food which was completely off - after a 45 minute wait, 3 of the 8 mains were finally brought out, and by the time the other 5 were served (20 to 25 minutes later), half our table had already finished their meals. Not happy! Food wise, we ordered several bento boxes which were fairly standard, mixed tempura udon noodle soup (the soup was very ordinary) sushi rolls and the teppanyaki chicken. There are some awesome places in Perth for great Japanese food, unfortunately Hanami just doesn't quite get there.
Bacon
My favourite place to get Japanese food! Love the tempura, Udon and Bento boxes. Even tried the Lobster once - pricey but delicious. I love that they do online booking, makes it easy to secure a spot!

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/5!!!!!!!!!! The white steamed rice with chicken was very nice!! :) Attractive restaurant design and friendly staff! nothing to fault!
LilMuncher
Really enjoy the atmosphere, the interior feels authentic. The food is decent, for the price and service is good if you come in on a quiet night. This place is so busy on the weekends though.
Perthfoodcritic
Cold Sake....., but overall the food was of a suitable standard. Slightly grilled tuna was superb, staff were helpful, clean facility. Will attend again. Ambiance was a little dated.

This joint does good fresh unpretentious Jap and ambience has gone up a notch since expansion into next door premises. Beef tataki and edamame were spot on & pork gyoza as good as any you'd get in Tokyo. My only suggestion would be tempura batter should be a little thinner. Service was brisk as you'd hope for lunch on a weekday.

Hanami is atmospheric and always busy. The food is good, but the sashimi wasn't memorable. <br/><br/>The yakitori entree was excellent and the miso was good, but after a few visits, it wouldn't be our first choice for a Japanese jaunt.

The first time my hubby and I went to Hanami for lunch and had some california rolls and sashimi we were so very impressed. Everything was so fresh and they used real crabmeat in the california rolls. So we brought my sister and her hubby along to Hanami for dinner to thank them for helping us. The sashimi was beautifully fresh as was the beef tataki. But the rapture and spider roll and assorted sushi was a big let down. The sushi rice came out gluggy and warm. I am afraid that when finally I mentioned the problem to the waiter he said that sometimes it's hard to get the right consistency. That being said, I would expect that they can get the sushi rice right every time. At least they took the assorted sushi off the bill, but not the other rolls. They gave us a tuna tataki (entree size) complimentary. I found it inedible as all you could taste was cooked tuna overloaded with purple onions. If I was the chef/owner I would never send out food like that as it would ruin the reputation of my restaurant. The sushi rice really spoilt the meal and made me feel so bad to have taken my sister & her hubby there. I will definitely NEVER be going there again!
FineDiners
Would have loved to have taken pictures of the food, but can't always put everyone on hold and take up their eating time :/ lol. Some dishes had great presentation.<br/><br/>The food was all very tasty! I don't normally have eel but what we had was delicious. The beef we had was very tender. The ingredients all seemed very fresh too. Also, the lotus root chips was great.<br/><br/>The only thing I'll complain about here was the initial service. I was the first to arrive and was seated but was not offered a drink to start with for over 10-15 minutes. I ended up having to signal the waiter and request for tea myself, which never came either. I had to ask another waiter again and by that time another of our group had arrived.
Lumpy Camel
We ordered a Bento box each from here. He had chicken in an omelette, he says it was okay. I chose the tofu. It was a generous size serving (yay!) but the sauce was a little lacking. Great Miso. <br/>Only downside is that if you order the only vegetarian option, they need to ask before they load caviar (or similar thing) on your salad. Eep.
Bottomlesspit
I love Hanami because I always know I will walk away happy. The food is fresh, authentic and well priced. It's a nice casual atmosphere. I suggest the green tea ice cream to top off the night with a refreshing and unique palette cleanser.
Master Roshi
Hanami has never failed to deliver good quality and scrumptious food. There is a very high emphasis on quality of their meats, seafood, vegetables and presentation. I'm always a fan of the bento box set however since it's expansion to the shop next door, so too have their portions increased! I guess it good in some way, but I wouldn't mind a smaller bento box at a cheaper price.
Lady X
Sashimi was fresh and overall good. Grilled mackerel was good too, but nothing special. Ordered the rapture roll and spider roll. The flavours were good but the rice was too soft and mushy which was a great letdown. Might try their lunch special bento sets next time

Lovely Japanese menu here with a cool ambience.<br/>We haad a selection of smaller dishes which suited us perfectly.<br/>As Japanese go this is one of the better ones we have found so  well done
Smithyy
Love this place for a casual dinner. The food is consistently good. The set menus are delicious and are good portion sizes for the price. The green tea ice-cream is the bees knees. Just annoying trying to find a car park when it's busy but can always get seated without a reservation.

I love this place! Definitely my Japanese go-to place. The service is great and their wagyu beef tataki is absolutely bomb! the vinaigrette sauce they use is phenomenal! sometimes i even dip my salad and softshell crab watermelon in there hah. Defs reccomend
Hungry Hippo
Had dinner here on a busy Saturday night. Ordered two entrees, two mains, a side salad and two drinks for approximately $64. Quite reasonably priced for what we had. <br/><br/>I noticed the owner moving customers to better locations where possible. This was to ensure the cold draft didn't bother the customers. So nice to see that they care about their customers experience. <br/><br/>Overall food was good. Nice local restaurant ... Definitely will come back.

We come here often - our go to when family and friends in town. Food always fresh. Good selection. Recommend the tempura udon! Should book as often very busy.
PerthfectBreakfast
The lunch special sets are great value but I especially like their reverse rolls sushi, cone sushi rolls and chicken teppanyaki. They can get quite busy so I would book ahead. They also aren't the speediest but I always enjoy my meal here. I love their salad dressing, it's amazing! The only time you do win friends with salad.
Richard Catlin
Great food and service, I am a long time fan of Hanami. The beef teppanyaki is the best ever. Food is authentic from tempura to sushi and green tea. For dining in or take away this is the best Japanese in Perth.
Vesna
Have been recommended this place as a very good one, haven't been disappointed - food served was fantastic. This is lovely place with very polite staff and fast service.
Andrew
Excellent Japanese food, always consistent in meal sizing and freshness/quality, the Katsu chicken bento box is my favourite , place gets really busy so try get there early, decent prices and overall a great experience. Thanks hanami
Mrs_ox_qtn
Food is fantastic and big portions. Extremely busy on a Friday night but a great way to finish the week with a casual Japanese feed. Reasonable beer prices too.

Love their Hanami Salad - delicious !!<br/>My friend had the salmon Bento box which she thoroughly enjoyed -will definitely be back 😊 would recommend you book a table as it's quite busy <br/>
Jen
This is my favorite go-to local Japanese place. My best friend and i love it here! Food is always delicious and service is always good too. The bento sets are such value for money!
Lifelovetravelfood
Lunchtime visit here was good but not great. We shared a mixed sushi lunch box and a tuna sashimi lunch box. The sushi was alright... good selection but it just wasn't moreish. Not bad but I've definitely had better. The salad that came with it was a tad soggy. Nice miso soup and the tuna sashimi was very fresh.<br/><br/>Service was quick and polite. We were asked to pay but told we could stay as long as we wanted which I found a bit odd. I'm not sure if they were closing, if they were I'd have preferred they just say so. We left after we paid, it was just a little odd. They were very polite about it so no complaints there.<br/><br/>It wasn't a bad experience and I would return, it just wasn't amazing.
Audrey Yeo
We ordered the:<br/>Beef udon<br/>Tuna tappan yaki<br/>Salmon and avocado salad<br/><br/>He salad was amazing. Their serving of both salmon and avocado was generous and tasty! The tuna tappan taki was pretty good, though the onions were the best part. Unfortunately, the beef in the beef udon tasted like what my dog smelt like. Funnily enough, I have had the opportunity to taste dog, and it tasted like the beef served in the udon.<br/><br/>Our server was named Nelson, and I have to say his service let much to be desired.

This has gone down hill since last we were here 1.5 years ago.<br/>The serves was horrid, having to ask each time to have the dirty plates to be removed to make room for next meal.<br/>Looking for eye contact to get an order every time.<br/>And clearing empty tables before clearing tables that had customers at them is a big no, no.<br/>I sat facing the kitchen to watch some jerk in a baseball cap stuff his face each time he made food to go out to a paying customer (no gloves or washing of hands).<br/>The food was not that great, the katsu<br/> Roll was the worst, thin bits of chicken mainly filled with a taste of flour - yuk.<br/>Won't be back again, so many other places to eat<br/>
Kermit
Quiet a big place, busy night.<br/>Service was a bit slow.<br/>Sat down to an entree of seared tuna, agedashi tofu, karaage chicken. Main of teriyaki fish bento.<br/>The food was well presented, abit disappointed as it lacked the flavor it promised.<br/>Not the best Japanese restaurant out there.<br/>
Max Koh
It's terrible, I have eaten at so many places for Japanese food and this is one of the worst <br/><br/>1) sushi rice was overcook and overly sticky and too wet<br/>2) soft shell crab was served cold and it felt like it was cooked 2 hours ago<br/>3) Miso soup is taste like salt water (too little Miso too much salt & water)<br/>4) sashimi was OK<br/>5) it's a little pricy but i'm ok with this price if it match the quality
Fooodmachine
Came here several years ago wasn't impressed, went for lunch today and things haven't changed much. Menu is overpriced for bland food, one of the dishes came 10min later than everyone else. The only difference between 'lunch' size and the upgrade to 'dinner' size for the bento boxes is a few slices of fruit. Service was unattentive and slow. Don't waste your time with this restaurant.
Asian's Taste
They have many choices @their lunch menu. Service was prompt too.<br/>Most of their food are pretty good. <br/><br/>We had:<br/>Beef tataki- it has garlic, spring onion and others seasoning. It's has a nice sourly taste.<br/>Agedashi tofu - yummy and crispy..absolutely love it<br/>Smoke salmon sushi roll-this dish is delicious too<br/>The only down side is when they cooked our teriyaki salmon is a lot bit over cooked<br/>However, overall experience is good. Definitely recommend this place <br/><br/><br/><br/>teriyaki salmon<br/>

As I was reading through the menu, I was immediately drawn to their sashimi bibimbap. I love sashimi and I love bibimbap, so I was convinced that I would love this too. The only apprehension I had was, in my mind this dish was going to be served in the traditional heated clay bowl, which would probably cook the sashimi, defeating the purpose of having sashimi bibimbap. But, of course the chefs were much cleverer than I am, and it was served in a ceramic bowl. Just as I suspected, I loved this dish! the salmon sashimi was fresh and plentiful. All the ingredients they used just worked really well together!

I use to dine here quite often with my family however hadn’t been back for a while so we decided to eat here again recently for my mother’s birthday. What I like about Hanami is the setting; if you have a large group, they can seat you at a table whereby you have to take your shoes off and can tuck your feet underneath the table – makes for a more Authentic Japanese experience. Food wise it’s a bit of a hit and miss. Dislikes: the fish teriyaki bento box I got wasn’t the greatest – fish was cheap and had a weird texture, teriyaki sauce lacked flavour and was very salty, the sauce that the tempura set came with was very little and in a tiny bowl which made dipping the tempura into the sauce very difficult (I’m a sucker for sauce!) Likes: the chicken katsudon had a very nice flavour to it and lots of egg, the tempura prawns and vegetables were well cooked and the batter was light and crunchy. Compared to other Japanese restaurants of the same price, I think you can definitely go to better places (such as Silver Sushi in Willetton or Kai in Bull Creek, and they’re even cheaper than Hanami!)

Waited half an hour for sashimi and sushi roll. Which is not making sense. Bad experience. Ventilation was bad as well. Cant even breathe in the restaurant. Wont come back again. <br/>

Food was absolutely amazing. Heard so much about this place and I finally got to go. Sashimi was so fresh, the reverse rolls where massive and the Tataki was cooked to perfection
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
Delicious beef teriyaki, melts in your mouth.. Lunch set menu is cheaper than dinner time... Fish teriyaki was yummy too, my 3yo ate 1,5 fish which is half their portion (they gave 3 fish fillet).., love their spider roll has cheese in it. Overall food was delishhh!! Served in timely manner and the waitress wear yukata :)

Ive only done takeaway at this place…Im a sashimi lover and my god the sashimi here is not only fresh but generous servings.. I also tried the marinated octopus and it was pretty good..

I'm new to the area, dined here with friends on one of my first night in town and so began my love affair with Hanami. The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. My go-to Japanese place whether it's take-away or dine-in. I've eaten here more times than I can count and it's never let me down. Highly recommend! It's not too casual but it's not too much, perfectly inbetween
CiderCraze
Consistent is the key word here. It is a very popular restaurant, high turnover so things are always fresh. Service is good and food is tasty. Servings are quite generous too!

My partner had really been craving some good sashimi lately and has always wanted to take me to Hanami (it always seems to be closed on the other times we've tried to go).<br/><br/>I called through to make a booking (even though it was quite late in the afternoon) and was still able to get a table. The eatery looked quite spacious with a few other tables already occupied when we arrived. We were showed our table and placed our order quite soon after (6 dishes, most of them entrees to be served together). <br/><br/>Prawn katsu: ($11.90) nicely crumbed and fried but a bit flavorless that was accompanied with a BBQ like sauce. Should have chosen a tempura style instead and probably would have been better suited with mayonnaise instead.<br/><br/>Takoyaki: ($7.90) octopus balls came out piping hot and was absolute delish. Definitely tasted octopus with each bite!<br/><br/>Pork gyoza: ($7.90) gyoza was delish with a tasty pork filling.<br/><br/>Octopus salad: ($7.90) I thought this was the best dish out of the lot with plenty of tasty octopus!<br/><br/>Hanami special salad: ($14.90) plenty of crunch and texture but got pretty watery when you got towards the bottom of the bowl. I don't believe there was a lot of sauce before we mixed it and we didn't add anything to it so I don't know where all the water came from.<br/><br/>Large assorted sashimi ($30.90) not sure that the sashimi was that day fresh (didn't taste that fresh) but it wasn't alarming enough for us to stop eating it! The fish pieces were sliced a bit too thick for our liking which made chewing the whole thing a bit of a mission.<br/><br/>There was so much food at the end that we had to get a take away container. We asked one of the waitstaff if we could have the Hanami salad in a container who promptly disappeared into the kitchen with our leftovers and then we waited another 15 minutes wondering what had happened to it. The service was very speedy but due to 3 different servers serving everybody, there was confusion with who you should ask for help and then who to follow up with again.<br/><br/>Overall I thought Hanami was worth the visit and I would definitely try there again. I thought the food was worth the asking price (except maybe the prawn katsu) and the serving sizes to be on par with other Japanese eateries.

The dining space at Hanami is spacious but subdued lighting and dark wood helps to give it a more intimate feel than it's size would suggest.  <br/><br/>Gyoza could have done with a little more time in the pan (slightly chewier than I like) but were very flavoursome nonetheless.   Takoyaki were tasty little flavour bombs and the vegetable tempura udon was a particularly generous serve and the tempura even managed to hold their crunch despite having to endure a trip home.<br/><br/>I did not dine in but based on the meal I took home, I'd like to try dining in another time.

A little disappointed at our inaugural visit to Hanami. Entrées arrived promptly after we placed our order. My husband's main (beef teriyaki set) arrived shortly after. Beef was delicious, tender, and juicy. 20 minutes after my husband's main arrived, my main (agedashi tofu set) still had not arrived. He had finished his meal, and mine was no where to be seen. Went to pay and had to have the agedashi tofu removed from the bill. Apparently the kitchen was busy. Not the best first impression. Perhaps a tempura set would be a nice addition? <br/><br/>ENTRÉES <br/>Tempura prawn sushi roll: good portion size. Not sure about the cream cheese. <br/>Octopus salad: same as all the other squid salads at other Japanese restaurants/food outlets (don't think $7.90 is a fair price for the portion). <br/>Tori Karaage: don't mind it being over fried, but a lil tasteless. <br/>Scallops: frozen. Did not taste like scallops. <br/><br/>MAIN<br/>Beef teriyaki set: beef cooked to your liking. Beef was tender and juicy. Rice a little too soft, yet not cooked all the way through. Nice side dishes (miso soup, salad, and edamame). <br/>Agedashi tofu set: N/A. Never arrived.

Tuesday nights are one of the worst for dining out (along with Sunday and Mondays). Everywhere we wanted  was closed or booked out – Short Order Burgers, Ace Pizza, Three Coin – so we ended up at Hanami Japanese after driving around endlessly searching for good food. The boys left it up to me to order so I went to town with the entrees! Entrees are generally the tastiest and you get to try so many different dishes.

Pretty good food with a lot of tables suited for bigger groups. Always fresh, always large servings and most of all always delicious. The sashimi chirashi don, rainbow roll and tempura udon are highly recommended. A bit pricier than it's casual dining competitors but I guess the space feels more comfortable.

Hanami is a place I go to whenever I'm craving some decent Japanese food. They are consistently good and since they renovated and expanded, it's so much easier to get a table without a booking. Fave dish is the teppanyaki beef with mustard sauce, medium rare. It's divine and keeps me coming back. Everything on their menu is delicious, it's pretty hard to fault.

Came here recently one night with a number of friends, the food was good and the service may get messy on a busy night, the waiter who waited us could not remember some of the orders we placed due to miscommunication between the waiters/waitresses but it worked out in the end. Either way, the quality of food was good though the prices could be less costly than it is.

Hanami was once a tiny venue that squeezed the patrons in a narrow room almost elbow to elbow, and where you couldn't get a table without a booking for love nor money.  Nowadays, having expanded into the vacant adjoining shop space, Hanami is a large eatery that sadly for me has lost some of its former charm.  But ambience aside, the food is still as good as ever as AB and I discovered on a recent dinner trip.<br/><br/>AB started with salmon and avocado sushi - this was a handsome looking dish - almost too handsome to eat. The colours of the orange roe and the green avocado really popped.  I didn't get to try it, but AB said it was delicious.<br/><br/>I went for my old favourite - teriyaki salmon bento box. With a generous serve of salmon, miso soup and the usual accompaniments, I enjoyed my meal but didn't manage to finish it. Sometimes there's only so much room in the stomach, even though the mind and eyes are telling you to keep going.<br/><br/>AB chose chicken katsu curry, which surprised me as it's not one of his favourites.  Again, it was a large serving which was no problem for him. He often polishes off my food when I can't finish it,  so it's always good to dine with someone who is willing to go the extra yard.  His verdict?  He said it was OK, but he wouldn't order it again. He prefers the teriyaki, tempura and sushi dishes, with an occasional katsu dish (of the non-curry kind).<br/><br/>Hanami has always served reliably good food. Sometimes the service is a bit hit and miss and you can sit down for 10 minutes before being acknowledged, but generally you can be sure of getting a tasty, satisfying meal at reasonable prices. Nowadays too, you can be fairly certain of getting a table without having to wait.

I had lunch here recently. Was a little disappointed. I ordered the katsu chicken bento box, and while the accompaniments were all good (rice, salad etc.) the katsu chicken seemed like the processed chicken you get from the frozen section at the supermarket. I hadn't been here in a while but I remember that dish being tastier.

Mediocre food and even worse service! Our meals came out at different times so by the time one of our party started eating everyone else had finished and there were only four of us... Apathetic wait staff, and no explanation on why our food orders arrived so late even though it was early on a Tuesday night, the place was virtually empty and our orders were simple... Very disappointing, never again!
Kaela Neretlis
The food was delicious and of generous serving. The small table towards the front of the restaurant were great, it was relaxing being able take your shoes off and sit in cushioned booths. The customer service as a whole was fairly good, and they allow for separate payment which is helpful. Overall I enjoyed the experience and would return.

Mixed results. The entrée that I ordered of steamed Prawn Gyoza was absolutely delicious. Nice flavours and presentation.<br/>Unfortunately the main dish of Salmon Teriyaki was a disappointment. The flavours were nice but the salmon had the consistency of reheated fish from the previous day. Tough around the edges and well and truly overcooked.<br/>Service was efficient and meals arrived quickly.<br/><br/><br/>-----09 May, 2015-----<br/><br/>Mixed results.. The

Sue G. Must say I was really surprised at how fresh all the food was<br/>Very authentic too<br/>Most of the patrons were Japanese which is generally a good indication of the quality of the food<br/>Affordable too

Great food. Love this place! The octopus balls & dumplings are especially delicious! Really nice restaurant with lovely service & consistently good food.

FAVOURITE! A+++ I've wait.... FAVOURITE! A+++<br/><br/>I've waited way too long to review this place but I've been a regular since my boss took a group of us here for lunch, my first ever Japanese experience and the start of my jap food obsession.<br/><br/>I come here on an average once every week. Amazing sashimi and tempura for my regular entree, incredible chicken tepanyaki and when I feel like the beef, they cook it to perfection.<br/><br/>They do take away as well so it's great if you want to eat great jap at home.<br/><br/>Since they've expanded, the service can sometimes be a little slow on a busy night, so maybe an upgraded kitchen should be considered but I never have any problems waiting a little longer for Hanami.<br/><br/>Must try!!

Awful. The woman who seated us was unimpressed that we didn't have a booking, and proceeded to take a phone call whilst we waited at the counter. Took about half an hour for them to take out order. Store bought spring rolls, sushi did not taste fresh and the sashimi was sliced too thick and wasn't good quality. Edamame beans served cold (?). The only reason we visited hanami was because it's far superior neighbour Mr Munchies was closed. I definitely won't be back

Birthday with sis. Just visited this <br/>Place again tonight customer service wasn't very good because it was too busy<br/>Food is really good don't order anything weird. They forgot to write down my order lucky my family all shared some food with me I rather visit this place during the daytime it won't be as busy and I'd have a better dining experience with my food coming out faster and better atmosphere.

6/10 dinner experience. Quite good salmon sashimi and teppanyaki, poor sushi.. The place was very busy when we arrived and had to wait for abit. Kitchen was pumping out food but I felt quality was not upheld. Again not the best Japanese food Ive had, it is not too bad in Perth sashimi-wise and the menu offerings are quite extensive. It did offer some korean dishes which I loathe seeing in a self-proclaimed Japanese restaurant. Price is abit too expensive given the quality. 6/10 experience in conclusion. INDIVIDUAL dish reviews and more photos on instagram @mayybites - example: Rapture Roll - the pricetag does not justify the quality served. Too expensive for poor quality rice, this is NOT sushi rice. Poorly formed and messy/rushed looking. Too much rice with too little ingredients. Tempura prawn, salmon, roe should all taste amazing but sadly not this, covered in too much kewpie mayo.

Well Done. Three of us went for early dinner on a Thursday night and Hanami did almost everything right.<br/>I had read a number of complaints about lack of service and bad service, but we saw nothing of that. We had three courses and everything went smoothly and on time. The dishes were as described, presented well and cooked well. None of us had sashimi or sushi but there was a roaring trade with takeaways so I can only presume that their reputation is good in this area.<br/>I hesitate to mention this but each dish including both entrees and mains were quite large for Japanese cuisine and I wonder whether this is a factor in their popularity. Coupled with this are the very reasonable prices; for example a number of nice sized entrees were only $7 and more than half the mains could be had for under $20.<br/>Recommended - especially for a week night.<br/><br/>Update - 7-9-2015<br/>Went to Hanami again with the same result.  Good fast service, honest well presented food and over-sized portions.  I had fish Teppan Yaki - why? - because I wanted fish but not deep fried.  It came with a vinegar sauce for dipping and a simple salad. I added rice. The fish comprised very small fillets, quite a large pile, and it was perfectly cooked, still very moist and with its delicate flavour intact. <br/>The night was Wednesday and the restaurant was full.  Highly recommended.

Takeaway. Ordered a takeaway fish teriyaki box and some prawn gyoza - the flavours were SO delicious! I don't ever remember ordering Japanese takeaway as tasty as this.<br/><br/>Can't wait to eat it again - but judging by the comments on here about their service, takeaway might be the way to go.

First lunch. Food are good but lack of staff. Should hire more staff and better service
Lawrence_lai
Too busy. Just went tonight, been here several times before. They were very understaffed and was very busy tonight. Took an hour to get our food although waiters (when we managed to get one) were helpful. Sushi was ok but probably wont be back.

First time and will be back!. Ordered takeaway, the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon boxes. The flavour in the meals was very much authentic and delicious! Great pricing and generous serves! <br/><br/>Yum yum! Will definitely recommend

Fantastic food. The beef teppanyaki was the most tender beef I have ever eaten and the sauce that went with it was so tasty I almost wanted to drink it.

Great Food as always but the service has deteriorated over the years. Hanami has always been a favourite. We have gone there for dinner at least once a month the last few years. I still can't really fault the food. It's still one of the best Japanese Restaurants in terms of quality and authenticity of food.<br/><br/>But the last visit we made has convinced us not to return. It was the straw the broke the camel's back so to speak. They stuffed up in their service three times in one night in the following ways:<br/><br/>1) We had 3 people in our party and the mains for two of the people came out. And being polite we waited for the 3rd person's meal to come out before starting. 15 minutes and a cold Udon Noodle soup later, the waitress still hadn't returned. So we suggested to her to check on the 3rd meal. It had been sitting at the counter and she finally brings it out. Didn't apologise.<br/><br/>2) Once we had finished our main meals, our dishes sat there, uncleared for at least 30 minutes. Not good enough for a restaurant of this supposed standard.<br/><br/>3) And this is the best part. The waiter minding the till approached our table and handed us the bill. Not that we had requested it. Not that we had looked at the dessert options or had a chance to order anything else. That was it, they decided our meal was over and we had to go and pay. This was at 8:30pm so it's not like they were closing. We counted at least 7 tables empty in the restaurant by this point so it's not like anyone was waiting for a table.<br/><br/>3 strikes and they're out. We will never return. Also, the number of times we recommended this place to friends, never again.

Hands down my Favourite Japanese. This place is without a doubt my favourite Japanese restaurant!<br/>Never disappoints. Simple fuss free dining and food. Easy take away option available.<br/>Service is always friendly and welcoming. And of course the food is delicious! <br/>Could not recommend more.
Inner City Diner
An Poor Experience. I have been here many times, however since the restaurant expanded its more like going to a food hall.<br/>Went here on 15 August 2014 - a Friday so yes it was busy. Food was ok and for some of the dishes we had they were excellent, but the service and delivery was very poor to non existent. They may have been understaffed but they managed to ;<br/><br/>1 Deliver food to a table that arrived after us but before we had our order taken - we were not in a rush so we probably didn't mind this.<br/>2 Not deliver rice with a dish that came with rice - by the time it was delivered the dish was cold<br/>3 Serve our entrees more than 5 minutes apart (i didn't time it) and then almost immediately after the last entree was finished bring all the main courses.<br/><br/>Sadly they do not have the skills to run a larger enterprise. The staff did not seem to know which tables to go to next. A total lack of direction which given the food is good is disappointing.<br/><br/>Slow service is one thing i don't get too worried about, but when the dining experience is effectively turned into a food hall experience then I cannot see me going back until i see better reviews.<br/><br/>I was actually surprised when i got a table with a late booking and now i know why.<br/><br/>My co diner has actually refused to go there again. We eat out regularly and are not price driven.

I LOVE Hanami!!! Best Japanese in Perth!!! Sashimi is always fresh, tempura is always crispy and the udon noodles are soooo nice. I avoid the busy nights- love going there during lunch as it's quiet and service is fantastic :-)
William Ferrier
Meh. Pretty average sushi.<br/>The meat was obviously old.<br/>I thought "Jiro dreams of sushi" would raise standards a bit but this food was worse that a take away sushi roll to be honest.<br/>Great staff and service but be either all the way with your food and fitout or be a take away place. Not in between.
Jay
One of the best Japanese restaurant!<br/>The service is really good, attentive. Always busy. The food is delicious leaving the whole table speechless over dinner time! The portion size is huge and worth it! Cheap and full of flavours! Recommended

Best japanese at affordable prices. Seriously loved this place. We ordered two big sushi and sashimi platters. Unreal and great price. Was completely stuffed.

First visit since refurbishment.<br/>Preferred old place.<br/>It is now noisy and like a food court with restaurant prices.<br/>Disappointing for genuine Japanese cuisine.<br/>Will stick to Bondai and Gai Lu.
Pete
Used to be good. This has been excellent for years but since they refurbished and doubled the size of the restaurant everything has slipped. there isn't enough staff so service is very bad, the kitchen must be too small to accommodate the expansion so the food is slow and the quality of their food (which used to be amazing and justified the slightly expensive prices) is awful. just had a ton katsu that was all grissle and had been deep fried so hard that the bits that weren't grissle were like cardboard.. get it together hanami - you used to be so good!!
PeTa Piper
Expansion doesnt always mean better! Hanami used to serve a delicious pork cutlet Ton Katsu but tonight it was horrible. Perhaps a victim of cost cutting, what used to be served - tender, white cuts of juicy pork with a perfect crisp crumb has been replaced by a cheap, fatty and brown cut, covered in oily, soggy crumbs. Plus the salad had brown lettuce! Please dont ruin taste and quality to save a few dollars.

Shadow. First time been here on Sat 5th Jan. We had no booking but were accommodated within 10mins a table for 2. It was explained to us that there maybe a bit of a wait for food as they were extremely busy. The wait staff were efficient in taking our order and obtaining us a wine cooler with ice, glasses and providing water to the table. Food did take a considerable time, but it was delicious when it arrived and faultless in taste, presentation. <br/>My date when asking for the bill had more water sent to the table. When he return the manager spoke with us for some time asking if we were happy with the food and apologised for delays in it arriving. She asked if there was any suggestions. And we simply said maybe more staff. The Manager went on to explain they only recently reopened since expanding and weren't sure whether the high patronage was due to the holiday period, other restaurants being closed or their reputation and would be reviewing the kitchen & table staff numbers. <br/>The sign on the door said they closed at 10 yet they will still seating new patrons at 945 and allowing them to order from the full menu. Clearly the restaurant needs some tweaking since they've expanded, but well worth the visit and wait! Will be back!

Service. I've been going to Hanami for 3 years now on my lunch breaks, recommending to friends and going with family for dinners. Since the refurbishment I was very disappointed in the service and the lack of organisation. I had recommended this place to my cousin who was spending one night in Perth. There was 6 of us on a Saturday evening. We waited 30 minutes for our entrees (which one of we didn't recieve after asking twice) it was only tempura vegetables. Then we had waited 45 minutes for our main meal, which was all correct . I understand that it can be very busy on a Saturday night, but when we saw 3 other tables come in after us and order their meals after us, with recieving theirs before our main meals came. We still hadn't recieved the tempura vegetables and after mentioning we hadn't 3 times we went to pay and they hadn't removed it from our bill.. Not very professional, seems like they forgot about our table and I was very embarressed as I had raved about Hanami. It wasn't up to it's usual standards. <br/><br/>Don't get me wrong, the food was still amazing but the service ruined the evening out with my cousin.

Hanami Wannabee. Hanami has been a fixture on Beaufort Street for many years now, and since my last visit, has expanded substantially in size. It now occupies the space where another restaurant used to be, but unfortunately, the acoustics are now horrendous, lending a cafeteria-like quality to the restaurant. <br/><br/>I made a booking for two, and when I arrived with my dining companion, we were not shown to our table for at least ten minutes. I wondered why I even bothered to book, seeing as we were seated in a thoroughfare, in the middle of the takeaway traffic and near the door. <br/><br/>The atmosphere was clearly lacking, and as for the food... Well, I do wonder how this place does such a roaring business. Every element was lacking authenticity. <br/><br/>We began our meal with edamame, which were boiled and sprinkled with salt, and completely non-descript. Next came the agedashi tofu ($7.90), which was topped with tempura vegetables. The broth was greasy and the chef had a talent for making tempura- usually a light, crunchy batter- taste like it came from the local fish and chip shop. The tofu was too soft and disintegrated upon contact with my chopsticks. <br/><br/>We washed down this entrée with a pot of Japanese green tea, poured into a couple of dirty cups. The strainer on the pot was inadequate, and as such, the tea leaves came out with the water. Trying to get a refill of water was nearly impossible. <br/><br/>For mains, I chose the salmon sashimi ($14.90). Like the edamame, it was neither good nor bad, and lacking in flavour. I've had better sashimi in a food court. My dining companion and I also chose garden salads ($7.90), which were enormous in size and comprised mainly of iceberg lettuce. Again, soft tofu was used when a more firm one would have suited a salad. <br/><br/>My dining companion ordered the chicken teppanyaki ($18.90). Normally, such a dish is served on a sizzling hot plate, but this arrived on a regular plate, smothered in an acidic sauce that tasted like it came straight from a jar at the supermarket. The chicken was cut against the grain making it chewy and unpleasant. <br/><br/>With such wonderful, truly authentic Japanese restaurants like Satsuki and Halu in Perth, why would you eat such second-rate offerings at Hanami? The staff may be dressed in kitschy kimonos but this is a poor rendition of Japanese cuisine. It's cafeteria food at restaurant prices. Eat there at your own peril!
Munchk1n
Overall this place was not bad. We ordered the tori karaage and takoyaki which were tasty. Veg tempura and Agedashi tofu were passable. Salmon sushi was average. Chicken katsu curry - chicken was tasty but the Japanese curry lacked flavour and spice and almost seemed diluted.... I'd give this pale a second chance but would probably try something else..
Anthony John
100% strike out rate for bad service. Everytime I've been here it has been horrible. I just sat at a table for 30 minutes while I was ignored by staff and then left.
Dirk Gently
Ending up going here a 2nd time against my better judgement as was in a group that had booked this place. This place is NOT run by Japanese people. One dish (mine) was forgotten by the kitchen so itdidn't come until everyone else had finished eating. It tasted like oily food I ate when living in China. If you want nice Japanese NOR go to HaLu instead. A hundredfold nicer

Great tataki and beef teppan, mustard sauce is the best

Don't get scallops. Not many options on the menu. Scallops were overcooked and lacked flavour. Overall food lacked presentation and flavour. Overpriced - would not recommend.

Fresh and Delicious. Came here after work one night to order takeaway Chirashi (assorted sashimi) Bento and a serve of Takoyaki (Octopus Balls). Service from the young man who took my order was particularly cold and he even bumped my leg with a chair that he decided to start packing away from the table I was waiting at near the entrance (without an apology, I felt like I was a hindrance waiting for my order, but I'm not going to wait outside in the cold!).<br/><br/>Despite that, the food was outstanding. It's refreshing to see an actual assortment of raw seafood as opposed to just tuna and salmon, and the rice was proper seasoned sushi rice! So rare to find a casual Japanese restaurant that actually does the rice authentically like Hanami does, huge plus! The Takoyaki was piping hot and juicy - perfect. <br/><br/>I'll come back for another Bento Box, but perhaps I'll phone ahead next time so I'm not in the way...

Good food. Good service. Value for money. Corkage only $2 per person. Great place for a casual dinner!

Good food... Disappointed service. We always come for dinner, love the food and friendly service. Except for tonight ... we made a booking for 6:30pm... Got there 10 mins early and was told by the lady boss "someone is sitting at your table! You are early!" to be honestly I did not expect such reply. So we had to sit at a temp table to wait for our table. Waited for 20 mins to move to our table, I just don't understand why can't she just let us sit at any table? we didn't insisit to sit at the tatami! I'll just as happy to sit anywhere as long as we dont have to move! Ended up she had to move those customers from our table to another table! With all these moving around! So much hassle...<br/><br/>Although the service was disappointing, the food were great! Enjoyed it!

We love coming here- fresh and lovely food. Service is usually good too!

FRESH. Went to Hanami last night, so good! Beef Udon was good and Tuna and Tamago Nigiri were especially fresh and delicious! Friendly service too, I really like this place.

Satisfed. Although small it's never too loud and the service is good. <br/>Sashimi is consistently fresh and servings are decent. Never disappointed.

Always satisfied. With Hanami food<br/><br/>I had<br/><br/>Beef tataki<br/>Chiken tepan<br/>Tempura udon<br/>Salmon & avocado salad<br/><br/>Cost over$60 but worth to pay.
PS I Love To Cook
$18dollar for a overly salted teriyaki fish, rice & overloaded lettuce with miserly dressing and a half eaten fruit serving? These guys need to beef up on their bento box as I felt cheated paying so much for such a low quality food compared to place like IS DONBURI where pay lesser for better quality food

Best Jap!. Great food every time, the staff are so accommodating and lovely. Husband swears by the sashimi!

Ridiculously over-priced. My partner and I visited Hanami a few months ago as we both LOVE Japanese food.<br/>The food isn't bad but it certainly is not worth what they charge there.<br/>I have no issues paying for food if the quality and size is worth it, unfortunately this is not one of those places.<br/>We ordered a range of dishes and walked out still feeling hungry.<br/><br/>I'd choose to go to Bonsai on Roe St over this place any day!<br/>Will not be returning.

Hanami, how I love thee. Love love love this place! We have been here several times and the experience is always great and consistent. The food is very quick to come out and service is attentive, whether its taking our order, re-filling our water, or clearing the table. Great selection of Japanese cuisine at affordable prices. The food always taste fresh and is well presented. By far one of my favourite places to dine in Perth. Great place to bring a few friends and sample the plum wine!

This is a good place if you want some comforting Japanese food that you know will hit that spot. It's not particularly adventurous or ground-breaking but it's consistent and they do the basics well.

Great Sushi. I love sushi. I'm picky about sushi. Part of my family is Japanese and I grew up with beautiful tables full Japanese cuisine on holidays. This place makes delicious sushi. No bloody stupid smoked salmon — this is lovely raw salmon. Delicious tako and hotategai nigiri. Gluten-free soy sauce available for cœliacs. I've eaten at Hanami EVERY time I go to Perth. It's just delish.
Alex
Not authentic. There are a lot of imitation Japanese restaurants out there, and I sorry to say that this is one of them! The food was bad. I had to get my boyfriend (who is known as the human waste disposal system) to eat all my food.
Chef Mlo
Lovely tempura. Needing a quick bite before a show at the Astor, my partner and I both ordered tempura with udon. I the assorted and she the vegetarian. We both devoured them. Crispy and delicious.<br/>Service was quick and efficient.<br/>For the price, Hanami was fine. <br/>We will return to try other things on the menu and take a bit more time over our meal.
Jade
BAD TEMPURA. Tempura is one of the things that Japanese usually do so well...Thoroughly disappointed to try Hanami tonight to have the most revolting assorted tempura I have EVER experienced. I complained and sent back the thick disgusting fish and chip NOT tempura style batter cooked in old oil and to add insult to injury they insisted that I pay for it despite having sent it back. NEVER NEVER NEVER again will I eat at Hanami! Tell all your friends!
Kim
Satisfied!. Me and my girlfriend decided to finally go to Hanami located down the road from my home. Was not sure what to excpect which always excites me. The place was buzzing with laughter and chatter, there was a positive and vibrant ambience. We were seated and the waiter instantly offered us 2 glasses for our champagne we had bought along. We had 2 entrees, octopus balls, and tuna sushimi which both were fantastic. We then had 2 mains, set menus which includes, rice, salad, miso soup and fruits. The 'Katsudon' chicken was flavoursome and good texture, little bit salty. The salmon teriyaki was beautiful and generous portions. Was highly satisfied walking out of this resturant, great evening, great service and good value food. Easily amongs the top 3 best Japanese resturants in Perth right now!!!
Rocky
Teriyaki salmon...YUM. Have been here many times and everytime I have enjoyed myself. I always get the spring rolls to start and they are among the best I've ever tasted. I also enjoy very much the avocado sushi. Then I get the Teriyake Salmon Bento Box. It is so delicious, and I love that special salad dressing they use. The prices are reasonable. I will be back again.

Extremely disappointed. We normally enjoy dinner at Hanami but they missed the mark last night. We ordered the tempura prawns which resembled and tasted like the local fish & chip shop - very disappointing. The waitress also decided to reorganize tables which involved a lot of table scrapping across the floor and banging of seating - very inconsiderate to diners seated close by. Then final straw was having to ask 3 times for water and wine glasses. Won't be back anytime soon.

Very Pleasant. Found it very enjoyable, food was well cooked & presented, the service was a little overwhelmed with the number of people there, but the kitchen kept up very well. All in all, very good value for money.

The food quality is not bad but not the best of the best. The bento set is average but the sushi is very good. Try at least once. 7/10

Great For Casual Friday Night Out. My boyfriend and I had an enjoyable easy Friday night meal here. I rang 30 minutes before arriving and was told the only tables were outside (in the carpark!) or next to the door. When arriving I asked if there were any tables inside and was shown to the sunken booths at the front of the restaurant which are the best seats in the place! As this place is so busy I think the staff find it hard to know when tables will be freed etc so you may as well just try your luck on arrival.<br/>We bought our own bottle of wine BYO $2 pp. Shared a delicious medium sushimi for entree the sushi was fresh and the rolls were really tasty. Mains the best value is the bento box with rice soup and salad - my teriyaki beef was cooked to perfection medium rare and melted in the mouth and the kento chicken was lightly crumbed and large serving. <br/>This is a great place to dine if you dont feel like heading into the heart of Mt Lawley etc. There are a few carparks close by for parking which also saves on the hunt for street parking you usually have further into Beaufort St.

Good Japanese for Beginners. Went there last night for dinner. The food was good - we had the takoyaki balls, tempura & teppanyaki chicken. Didn't get a chance to try their sushi. The menu was basic I felt. This is a good place to bring friends who are just starting out on Japanese food or for the not so adventurous
Jarryd
Best japanese I have ever had, and I have eaten A LOT of japanese. A bit more cost wise than your average but better quality than your average also. Highly recommended.

Loved it! Place was packed out on a Saturday night, and soon found out why. Had the Beef Tepanyaki and was impressed! Definitely going back!!

Pretty good. nice choice of dishes, good prices. only 3 sunken tables, basic decor, easy casual restaurant.

This is one of our all time favorite restaurants - it's ALWAYS busy so we ALWAYS call to reserve a table and until now have always been happy however if you reserve a table, one doesn't expect to be seated right outside the toilet!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! Especially that a few walk in customers that a walked in just minutes before us (with no reservations) were seated in the front of restaurant which is where we usually sit when we have made all previous reservations! VERY Disappointed!!!!! I can TOTALLY understand if we were just a walk in off the street to be seated outside toilet but NOT if we have called to make a reservation and if they are THAT busy then to tell us where we will be seated (and if this bothers/concerns us)and we would have made our booking for another night !!!!!

Reliably good food. We've been there twice, once last year and again recently for dinner. Both times the food was very good, though the service could be faster.

Fantastic !. I was looking for a japanese restaurant that was open on mondays (not many are !) and I came across this one but I live South of the river. We like to go to Yuki on Colin St in Willetton but since it was closed mondays, I searched the web for something as good as yuki.<br/><br/>What a great find !! Very unassuming on the outside with similar decor to Yuki on the inside but smaller, but still very appealing.<br/><br/>What can I say about the food?.... FANTASTIC !<br/><br/>I ordered beef tapanyaki, salmon nigriri, salmon sashimi, mixed tempura, agadashi tofu, Takoyaki (octopus balls), fish tapanyaki and the garden salad.... All great and generous servings, especially the tempura and garden salad. We had 7 people (2 kids) and we shared 4 dishes of rice, which was recommended by the nice waitress, as she thought it would be too much to order 5, and she was right !<br/><br/>To top it off, the food came out reasonable fast for the amount we ordered, as it was already 3/4 full at 6.30pm.<br/><br/>The highlight was the tempura with the horseradish dipping sauce, as most places will just give the sauce without the horseradish, and that makes a great dipping sauce.<br/><br/>Sounds well be venturing North' now for our japanese !<br/><br/>Ps.. Service was great also even though the ladies we run off their feet.

Fast service, great food. Worth every penny will definitely be back!

Wonderful meals. I never disappointed with Hanami. foods & service always great. a bit expensive for some of their dishes compared to other places but I wouldnt mind pay the money for good quality foods. Sashimi always fresh and winderful. thumb up!
Milli Patterson
Delicious sashimi. Had a plate of sashimi and a pot of green tea. so healthy and fresh. the waitress wore a beautiful kimono. We too my friend from Ireland who had never tried Japanese.. she will be back!

Unfortunately Nothing stood out about this restaurant.<br/>The food wasn't fresh, the pickled ginger was dry. Service wasn't horrible, but definitley not good.<br/>Won't return here.
Trust Me
I gave them a second chance... Been here twice and food has always been average. Ordred t/a because other Japanese restaurants around home were closed. Im never ordering food here again. The food isnt authentic. The owners are Asian but aren't Japanese - so to me I didnt get the authenticity as i would from other Japanese restaurants.
Transcendancing
Tasty!. Very enjoyable group dinner the other night, lots of different entres and mains, all served fairly quickly and were tasty - not the best Japanese I've eaten though.
Eatout
Just average & over-priced. I think this place is over rated and overly priced. The menu as very standard with the usual teriyaki and bento box. We ordered grilled Tuna set and Tempura udon, takoyaki and salmon tamaki, everything is very average. The tempura (deep dried prawns with batter) is soggy and noodle is over cooked. The takoyaki wasn't impressive either. Don't think I will go back again, with the same price would certainly get better Japanese food elsewhere.
Perth Foody
Not very Japanesy. Ordered the chicken Katsu curry. What came out looked like a hearty stew and didnt taste like japanese food at all. The sushi was nice and the service was quick, but the staff were snappy when we took too long to order and told us the next booking for our table was in an hour and a half after our reservation and we needed to be finished by then. The owners that had this place a year or two ago did a great job - the food was authentic and the service quick and staff friendly. Not sure what has happened since.
Emma Adair
Very over priced for the quality, I did expect a little more but nonetheless still tasty. One thing that I didn't enjoy was the salmon sushi I ordered, It was like they had used the off cuts of the sashimi, big long chewy piece of sinew through the whole roll. Not the best thing to be chewing on when rating raw fish.
Hippokathy88
Average & a bit overpriced. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. The food was quite nice and the service was attentive. We ordered a chirashi bento set, takoyaki, pork gyoza & prawn gyoza. The chirashi bento was delicious even though the serving was quite small. Sashimi was fresh and it was quite generous for the amount of rice that we received. Takoyaki wasnt too bad although I definitely had better takoyaki elsewhere. The pork & prawn gyozas were especially a let-down. They weren't Japanese gyozas, they were simply Chinese-style dumplings. Gyozas are supposed to be pan-fried and the dough should be completely different. The food was marginally over-priced and even though the food was not bad, we probably wouldn't come back here if we didn't have to.
Jason
Been here a second time since opening. The first time was a flash from the past from the owners previous restaurant located all the way out in Kiara. Second visits are always a good indication of consistency across the menu. Been about 1 year since we were last here and the food standard and quality couldn't have been further from our experience previously. Ordered a lunch time bento and the serving of rice was a good indication of what was to follow. The amount served was so thin that you could see through to the base. Small servings of rice when the dish basically is a rice dish is a fundamental mistake whether youre in Japan or overseas. Side dishes were all dry and overcooked, sushi rice fell apart and nothing was fresh. I know this isn't Japan but its a shadow of itself a year ago. In my view one of the top Japanese hideaways going around at one point, now it's fallen off a cliff!
Naomi Ng
One of the best katsudon I've tasted, chicken teppanyaki was amazing, definetely coming back for more
Kung Food Panda
Best Value Japanese!. I have frequented Hanami for years and it never once disappoints. The place is small, definitely requiring early bookings, noisy, however the food is always amazing and fresh! The staff are all very attentive and friendly. Extra mention to the freshness and quality of the Sashimi... Highly Recommended... ENJOY!!!

Don't bother.. Didnt like this place. Save yourself half the price and head on down to tan popo.

Average. Very overrated and I can't understand why it's so busy when you can get a lot better Japanese elsewhere. Quite overpriced too.
Jmatacz
Excellent sashimi. I love this place for its food, ambience and BYO option. <br/>It is a favourite meet up spot for friends and I - not cheap but not over the top either. Definitely recommend!
Pris
Ok, not bad - overrated though.... I've had dinner here - I think its ok but a little pricier than average Japanese restaurants. Lunch service is cheaper and efficient. I'd return because it's close to home but I think the food is over-rated - it's good but I've had better elsewhere.
Andrea Pragnell
Good service good food and value for money. Definitely will go back.
TJ
Got main 2 hrs after being seated, they're BYO and we waited 1/2 hr for a glass. How about cutting off takeaway and warning people about the wait? A lot of restaurants are closed between Xmas and new years so can understNd they're busy but seriously...just stop taking orders if you know it's going to take all night.

We stumbled on to Hanami (it was the only place open on boxing day). I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised; the service was great while the food was really tasty. The tepan yaki chicken had a unique, smoky BBQ flavour. The tako yaki had so much more octopus than other restaurants although they were only served with mayonnaise. The pork Katsu bento was really good value; it included salad, edamame, miso, fruit & 2 generous pork cutlets. The whole experience was pleasant and quite good value (for Perth).
Bridget
It's not cheap but is there good, cheap Japanese in Perth?! Our meals were tasty and the service quick and friendly.
Discerning Diner
Unimpressive food and a very low standard of flood, especially at the prices they are asking? The food is like cheap Japanese takeout and they are priced as though the quality is that of a nice restaurant. A definite no from me.
Mini Gourmet
Brilliant Value. We have been here numerous times, and value for money it continues to impress. It was so full that people were content to sit at over flow tables in the car park! It has a large menu that makes it so hard to choose as it all sounds good. You need to go to this restaurant several times to be able to try all the the must haves that jump out at you and beg you to order them. The wait staff are efficient but are under the pump. That just adds to the atmosphere for the hustle and bustle of a good cafe style restaurant. Did I mention it was BYO. We will back many times. PS you must try the RAPTURE ROLLS.
Gourmandius
Average Japanese food at premium prices. Jackie sauceless just to sleep. Other Japanese restaurants in Perth represent much better value. This restaurant misses the entire point of Japanese fine dining - excellence of ingredients.
Valerie
Pleasant service.. Nice presentation of food.. Tasty and delicious.. Worth going back
Holly Doll
My partner and I got take away chicken katsudon and when looking at the menu and saw the price of just under $19 we thought I would have to be the best. Well it wasn't. It was the worst we have eaten ever. So soggy and bland and even the miso soup was boring. It's a shame as we were looking forward to it so much. Oh well. We won't try there again.

They do takeaway. Always good to get takeaway here, but they don't do AMEX, :(

Awesome. Best Japanese restaurant in Perth. Service is fast, food is excellent, price is great. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Consistently good, Sashimi worth the return. I am a regular of Hanami - the food might be deemed 'average' but compared to a lot of other Japanese restaurants in Perth I'd say it does cut above the rest, and for a relatively good price too. <br/>The bento sets (both dinner and lunch) are generously proportioned - sometimes it's a struggle to finish!<br/>Definitely recommend the sashimi - it's amazingly FRESH... and beautiful presentation too. <br/>Only downside is sometimes can get a little crowded and noisy but other than that, it's definitely worth a try (or two!)<br/><br/>ALSO: recommends that you order before you arrive over the phone if you know what you want to eat. Saves us waiting time which CAN be between half an hour to an hour on busy nights.

Great restraunt, always go here Evan know it's a long drive, friendly staff and great great food!

Amazing.. The greatest! I have struggled to find a better place in Perth for Japanese of this quality at these prices. Absolutely divine!

Average food.. Nice environment, but quite pricey for some average food.

Sushi and sashimi was really good and fresh

Had take away again the other night from Hanami on the way home from work. As always, the sushi was delicious!

Will return. Great tempura! Crunchy and flavorsome. Skills and experience in creating dish is evident (9/10). <br/>Excellent Hamachi Nigri zushi (9.5/10)! Such wonderful flavour, combination of fresh Yellowtail and great skills.<br/>An exceptional and well brewed tea. Balanced aroma of roasted brown rice and green tea - a good Genmaicha 玄米茶.

Great japanese. Ive lived in japan for 6 months and was dissapointed when here in perth i try to go to a japanese but all i find is chinese imitations. <br/><br/>this restaurant however was great quality, fresh and tasty. <br/>i had the beef teppanyaki and the meat was cooked just right.- juicy and tender. the marinade sauce was also cooked just like i was used to back in Himeji.<br/><br/>also try the beef tataki entree , its beautiful.

Sushi is delicious but book to avoid dissapointment

Hanami review from the outside. Food was good. I had the katsu curry. It looks much better inside, not to mention it was a tad chilly outside.<br/><br/>Best to make a booking to avoid dissapointment.

The food was pretty average. I ordered teriyaki salmon box set and there was not much salmon for the price paid.

Easy Eats. Good, honest Japanese food at one of it's best AND it wont break the bank.<br/>If I lived closer I'd go more often.

Great Food, Consistently Reliable. Hanami is one of those Japanese restaurants that I can frequently go back to and expect consistently great food, whether it's for lunch or dinner. If you want sushi that goes that extra mile, try the Rapture Rolls. All of their teppanyaki meals are just beautifully cooked and filled with amazing flavours. And their tempura is light and crispy - just the way it should be!
Mr Fussy
Pricey for pretty average japanese.

Best Dressing Salad. I have been to many japanese restaurants. However this is the great dressing salad, the taste of orange which is very yummy. Go and try, u will like it

My partner and I visited Hanami recently, as a bit of a change from our usual Japanese restaurant. When trying new restaurants we like to try a variety of meals so we started with three entrees to share - octopus balls, beef tataki and scallop katsu. All three entrees were outstanding - generously sized, and the scallops and octopus balls were piping hot. For mains we just opted for the usual Chicken Teriyaki set, but this was also delicious and accompanied by a very fresh salad. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed Hanami but found it to be a little too expensive to replace our regular favourite. If you're looking for something a little less expensive bit still outstanding quality, try Restaurant Jun in the Perth CBD. If you don't mind spending a few extra dollars then Hanami is also a great place to eat.

Reservations reqd - good sashami. A very popular spot on Beaufort Street - I recommend making reservation at Hanami. We took my parents for my birthday and order sashami, sushi, agadashi tofu, tempura, takakai seaweed salad and tea. All the food is very good at Hanami. We asked for the food to come together. There is not such thing as entree and mains in this style of Japanese eating. The service is very efficient however not friendly. If you haven't tried Japanese food before, stick with the bento but not chicken or beef teriyaki. These dishes are not found in Japan and are Western variations. I would recommend Hanami.
Lulu's Opinion
3 of us went to this place for dinner and spent close to $100. The food was not outstanding, it was average at best. The agedashi tofu was probably the worst dish and a disappointment to me ad I love this dish usually. The ambiance of the restaurant is more of a food hall and was cold and uninviting. We won't be going back. :(

I am now inspired to learn how to use chop sticks! Never opted for Japanese before and loved every bite of the entree and main (and what I managed to steal of friends plates). Staff were friends and food came out quick. Definately will be making a return, and hopefully one day using chop sticks =]
Mr Mean
This place is so typical of Perth establishments as of late. Charges in the $25-30 vicinity for main meals and delivers within the $10-15 price point. Service has been spoken for by previous commenters, but I would like to add that the food is extremely poor, especially for the prices they charge. Avoid.
Darren Tumak
The standard is just not there. Felt like the bare minimum to do business... Fast food.

Great food but BAD SERVICE. The food at Hanami is great but for me the service is everything. As a regular spending over $70 every week here for months on end I found the service was always bad and they are not hospitibal at all. Being regulars you would think that they would get to know you in a nice way but instead they seem to love seating us near the toilet or outside on a 40 degree day. <br/>When you ring for a booking they ask if you can be out at a certain time. Maybe a bit sensitive for some but its a real pity they are so rude because the food is to die for. I will miss it ......goodbye Hanami..............
Hungerpangs
Just alright. Several nights ago my sister and I tried to eat at Hanami but it was booked out so we figured after the recent expansion of the restaurant, we needed to go back and see if the place still lived up to our expectations.<br/><br/>The interior is much bigger and has lost that cramped/cosy feel to it. They still have the 'booth' seating across the windows and the decor is modern and clean. The lighting is quite bright for evening dining and it would be better if dimmed at night to create a better ambiance.<br/><br/>We ordered the 'new' tako octopus, teriyaki tofu, beef udon, the scallops, a plain rice and the pickles, all to share. <br/><br/>The food came out quickly and was freshly prepared. The baby octopus, which could be quite visually off putting for some, was tasty but very cold (pulled straight from the fridge) and after a few mouthfuls, was quite rich and strongly flavoured. The tofu, which I always enjoy eating, was delicious and was generously portioned. The udon had a large serve of beef on top, however it was a little tough and the broth wasn't as tasty as I remember. Scallops were also a large portion and tasted great. <br/><br/>I think the problem was our meal selection too. We realised as we were eating that the food choices were all similar in texture, so halfway through our meal, it was all very samey. We would have been better off choosing a crunchy tempura to mix it up a bit. <br/><br/>All up, it came to $68 which wasn't too bad. It was nice food but it wasn't memorable, making me think that I won't return soon. Good but not great.<br/><br/><br/>-----22 Feb, 2011-----<br/><br/>Below the mark. Ohhh devastation...<br/><br/>What has happened to this place?! Used to rate it so highly but after my second average meal here, won't be returning back for below par food.<br/><br/>For two people, ordered the tempura udon, rapture rolls and the teppin yaki scallops and it failed to deliver.<br/><br/>Yes the tempura was crunchy but the udon failed to have that authentic flavour and was more like soy sauce and water. The rapture rolls (which are not cheap at $20 for 8) had that bleachy taste and we soon realised it was from the roe. Not sure if it's some kind of preservative but it contaminated the rice and avocado and were deemed unedible. <br/><br/>The scallops which used to be a favourite, although very big and plump, lacked the original buttery sauce they used to use and were quite bland.<br/><br/>For $78 (including pickles, tea and one extra rice), the price didn't justify the meal. <br/><br/>The flower (Hanami) has wilted and died :(<br/><br/><br/>-----04 Jan, 2010-----<br/><br/>Delish. Hanami is fantastic for authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price. Neat little set up in Mount Lawley and is popular so it's recommended you book.<br/><br/>All the dishes are freshly made - popular choices are octopus balls, tofu, tempura and go the teriyaki chicken - so so good!

Fantastic !!! Been there a few times, always looking forward to going back next time !!

Great Food, will go there again. I must say very nice food in Hanami. Favorite dish Salmon Don.If you like seafood, this is the place to go. There is a wide selection of great dishes therefore it is highly recommended!!!

One of the chefs pickep up a fillet(chilen or fish) from the ground and chuked it straight into the pan, behind what appeared like curtain on the kitchen enterance.
Take Me To Foodie Heaven
There are quite a few Japanese restaurants in Perth but I stumbled upon Hanami on Urbanspoon from its good reviews and upon recommendation from a friend. So, we decided to give Hanami a try for dinner. This was my first time at Hanami. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a nice smile, friendly service and were seated to the table I made a reservation for earlier. Each of the tables come with a bell to ring for service which I thought was pretty smart. We ordered quite a few dishes to share and not long after placing our orders, our starters arrived. We had the Edamame ($4.90), Beef Tataki ($10.90), Agedashi Tofu ($7.90) and Shisamo ($7.90). Overall, the starters were equally good. The Edamame had a small hint of salt to it which makes a great snack. The Beef Tataki wa

The first plate of sashimi was barely enough to whet our appetite and so a second order of another large assorted sashimi happened, and even more dazzling than the first. All the pieces were thickly cut and we scored the salmon toro - juicy, velvety cuts of salmon from the belly which were rich with fat and tasted absolutely amazing as a result.

Stick with me now - craving for salad is actually possible. Because when a bowl of healthy ingredients is served that is both capable of pleasing both your sight and taste, you want more.
Queen Of Bad Timing
I love going out for dinner on a Monday night. It's a great way to start the week and if you pick the right restaurant, you go home sated and happy. And that's exactly how it was tonight, when my friend Adrian and I caught up for a catch up bite at Hanami in Mount Lawley. It is a bustling, constantly busy venue right on the strip of Mount Lawley near Cantina 663, Grill'd and the Astor Theatre. It is also one of the most popular Japanese restaurants in Perth. The menu here is extensive - with all kinds of dishes being offered from tempura to sushi, teppan yaki, set dishes and sashimi. The list goes on and on. So you can imagine that as we sat down, we were busy dissecting the menu for some time. It was lucky that I booked since the place is packed, and we were seated at the 'traditional' tables where you sit on the cushioned floor and your legs go under the cut out bottom of the table. This has great novelty to it, but one thing I don't like is that you have to take your shoes off when

My favourite dish by far would have to be the ‘Scallop Teppan Yaki’ served with vinegar sauce. Plump, perfectly cooked scallops came out on a sizzling plate and were ever-so-tasty!
Taste Test - Food.Life
It was Saturday night date night and we decided to go to Hanami, a Japanese restaurant we go to now and again when we want decent Japanese food that isn't too expensive. Hanami is almost always busy so it's definitely a good idea to book a table before hand or risk getting turned away. I booked a table for 2 at around 4:30pm that day and was told I can have a table at 6pm as long as we leave by 7:30pm, which was fine with us . I was pretty hungry that night so ordered a bit too much... Our order Edamame $4.90 Beef tataki $10.90 Medium assorted sashimi $24.90 Small assorted sushi $17. 90 Hanami special salad $13.90 Miso soup x 2 $6 ($3 each ) Rice $2.50 Green tea x 2 $4 ($2 each) Food & presentation 4 /5 I've never had a bad meal at Hanami and tonight was no exception. Food is always fresh and tasty . If you are obsessed with Japanese salad dressing then I recommend their Hanami special salad with their secret recipe salad dressing. Their beef tataki is also pretty good albeit the tat

I have always enjoyed my dinners at Hanami. The food usually hits the mark despite tonight’s mixed efforts. It’s a great place for a catch up with long lost travel buddies when you don’t want to wait impatiently to order because you are too busy talking about each others lives. Let’s end this treat with a fun fact…what does hanami actually mean? It refers to the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers. This was sourced from my traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of Google.

The staff are on the ball, quick to take orders, refill water glasses and notice you when you need assistance. It took literally ten seconds from me putting the menu down, to someone approaching us to ask if we were ready to order.

The food comes to the table reasonably quickly, it's getting the attention of the staff to place an order and requesting wine glasses (BYO, $2 per person) which is the problem. It was a good thirty minutes after being shown to the table before someone came to take our order and offer water, and even then only after much arm waving and prompting. The food itself is pleasing, though the sushi is the weakest link. The spider rolls come with cream cheese and the Californians have too much rice. The kara-age is convincing and the usual suspects (sushi - tuna, salmon, scallops and kingfish; tempura; agedashi) competent. http://feeds.feedburner.com/WinoSapien Click here for the original context

One of my favourite dishes at the restaurant would have to be their Rapture Sushi Roll. It has lovely pink fresh sashmi salmon on the top with deliciously and perfectly cooked sushi rice (it's an art ok! the amount of times places get it wrong is unbeliveable!), which is wrapped around tempura prawns. This roll is NOT for the fainthearted an
