Review The George - Perth

Rachel Everett
We purchased a red balloon voucher for the 3 course meal with a glass of wine. We opted to get at an extra cost a bottle of wine to share and some hot chocolates at the end of our night. The food, was AMAZING! the only thing we didn't like was affagato, that was not the nicest. But it is each to their own. There were a few choices available for the entree, main and dessert. Quite the variety of different tastes but not enough option to make you feel overhwelmed. We really enjoyed our meal here and look forward to coming back next time we are in the state. Our waiter/bar tender (Qwan so sorry about the spelling!) was so lovely. He was patient and very accommodating to requests we made. Thank you guys.

Came here for breakfast with daughter She had the granola bowel which she rated 5/10 The peanut butter she wasn’t overly a fan of. We love our crunchy peanut butter and prefer the non sweetened/sugar variety (Pics for example). I get a natural peanut butter might be too dry for this but a sweeter peanut butter. Granola was sweet but had lost its crunch and tasted a bit stale. I had the Buddha bowl with Salmon which was roughly similar. It was tasty but slightly bland. Service was excellent.

Looking for a classy high tea venue with lovely and relaxed ambiance? This is the one.Thoroughly enjoyed my friends 50th bday at The George. Shout our to all service staff who are working extra hard because of Covid, in particular Devi at the George. We appreciate your effort. We'll done Thank you.

Went to the George for a work Christmas get together. Place was open and inviting, lovely atmosphere. We did have some issues regarding the food and some miss communication regarding kitchen closing time. I ordered a ceaser salad that came later the stakes? And it was quite salty.enough so that I couldn't finish it. We had planned on getting desert but apparently the kitchen close at 8pm which we were not advised of. I think the wait staff went on break which I have no issue with but it wasn't advertised. Manager was able to organise a few chocolate fondants and icecream which was really lovely. Few issues of the online menu being different then the actual menu that they given you in the restaurant also. Okay price for value. Would still return was despite these small issues

I hosted a Hi-Tea at the george last weekend and fell in love with this venue. The food was reasonably priced, tasted amazing and everything came out on time. They definitely deserve this 5 star rating for going above and beyond with this service.

Exquisite experience, lovely decor and great service. High tea is a treat. There’s a decent amount of beers on tap too.

Lovely place. Great food and atmosphere. Great customer service. Have a lovely high tea here for mother's day.

Like their customer service and the food was absolutely fantastic.

The worst Hi tea I have ever had.The scones were sent back twice and were still not cooked.  It was to be a special birthday celebration.  Very disapointed

Surprisingly happy with our visit. Went here for breakfast and the staff was lovely. We thought being a bar / pub, their breakfast would be average, maybe even below par. But we were wrong! It was tasty. They were generous with their portion and for the $20 you pay, it's definitely worth the money. I've been to brunch places and usually $20 gets you nothing!

Highly recommend this place for a hot breakfast. Generous serving of food on the plate. I had the eggs florentine with bacon. My wife had poached eggs on toast with a big slab of halloumi. Delightful!

Perfect business lunch/dinner location. A large range of drinks available with a set menu with the changing specials. The food is decent but lacking in yummy vegetarian options.

went here for a high tea as a birthday celebration, chosen due to their free flowing champagne. started off average with the booking being booked for the wrong day.. but luckily they weren’t busy at the time and were able to accomodate. felt sorry for the 2 staff, they were under the pump with a table of our 8, 2 big hens tables, and more, unfortunately due to the staffing the champagne was not free flowing.. had to ask multiple times. the tea selection and food was delicious and filling!

Always have a great dining or starting or finishing your night out experience here whether for drinks or a quick bite. Espresso martini is a must if cocktails are your thing!

A perfectly acceptable business lunch venue. I had fish - formulaic but properly cooked salmon - while my fellow diners all had steak which they were happy with. The Prices were reasonable given the CBD location. The sides were decent in size and price. I’d certainly be happy to go there again.

Went here for a business lunch. I had the barramundi whilst my colleague had the beef. The service was friendly and the meals were excellent. We sat outside as the weather was pleasant in the shade.

Went in with a group for lunch. They were busy but accommodated us. Service was a little slow but efficient. Food arrived fast and was tasty. Serving size was adequate for the lunch price on offer. Give this place a go, nice quiet environment.

Mother's day. 4 us went for high tea. We arrived and was seated promptly as had a booking. The interior is nice and the place was full at 12 noon. There were two sittings for the high tea the second at 2.30pm. After being seated a lovely waitress asked if we wanted Rosa or white champagne. And it we wanted water. She came back 5 mins later with the bubbly but no water. After another 5 mins she took our tea order. Still no water. 50 mins later the teas arrive where we had to ask again for the water. After sitting there over an hour some scones came out nice and warm with jam and cream. You had to be mindful that the jam had to spread across 8 small scones as there wasnt alot of it. After finishing them 30 mins later the food came out. A selection of sandwiches, pastteries and sweets. They did cater for the request I put in which I was happy about. However for me the food was nothing special. I could have done the same at home and for the $200 price tag for 4 people it wasn't worth it. The lovely waitress that we had at the beginning was only seen twice when she seated us and when she cleared our table which was sad as she seemed to have time for all the other tables she was waiting. Overall very disappointed I wouldn't recommend the high tea and I will not be rushing back any time soon.

I enjoyed a lovely dinner here with my partner. We ordered a chicken caeser salad and pork belly. Unfortunately neither of the lamb options were available on the Saturday evening in which we attended which is quite disappointing. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his pork belly which had a great balance of flavours. It was caramelised to perfection. My salad was also tasty, the dressing wasn't too over-powering and the chicken was cooked well. The restaurant decor is lovely and the service was okay although we had to flag down a waiter for a second round of drinks and ask for some more water. The entertainment book provides a substantial discount however the menu is decently priced as is.

I had a good lunch experience in December last year at a work lunch. Decided to try it again after work for dinner last week. Very disappointed. Fries were limp and soggy. Fish and chip batter was abnormally thick and strange. Pork belly pieces were hard and burnt. I understand charred, but they were hard and hurt my teeth. <br/>Service was fine, the dining section could do with a bit of a clean and minor renovation.

A great find. Lovely loacation. The food was really nice and well presented. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Will definitely visit again!

I took my friend from overseas to The George for breakfast. A beautiful venue located right on St.Georges Terrace. New breakfast menu includes something for everyone. Super happy with food, friendly staff, good vibe and great service has made our morning. A big thank you to The George for an unforgettable experience, I will definitely be back to try out the lunch and dinner menu.

One of my favourite places to visit in the CBD! The menu has something for everyone, the food is well presented and full of flavour, served in great surroundings by attentive staff who are always welcoming.
Alan
The food is average nothing special but good enough. My review is not because of food but the main reason is that we wanted to book a table for 8:30 and they didn't accept it as it was too late???? Summer night 8:30 is just dark and kitchen is closed???? Even in country you can get dinner at 8:30 and in CBD we couldn't. I suggest hand over the restaurant to someone that can run it.
Parisa
No dinner booking was accepted after 8 pm on a summer Saturday night!!!!! And this is a bar and restaurant in the middle of City !!!!!!<br/>If you can't attract enough customers on a Saturday night then there must be something wrong.
Daniel.jefferson2
I ordered the sirloin, and at $47 I was really looked forward to it. I was thinking it must be great for this price. Alas, I was given a simple porterhouse...a tough, bland one at that. Even I can cook a more tender steak at home. It was simply just cheap steak and chips at an over inflated price.<br/> :-( I didn't complain as another 40 min wait was too much to wait for.<br/>At the end we were pressured to leave.<br/>A very disappointing evening. I get better food at my local.
Kate Williams
Outstanding service and the food was amazing. Steak was cooked to perfection. We had a very friendly waitress from Nepal and the manager suggested a really good Argentinian wine. Will be back next time we are in town. Thank you.
Ringo
went to a function here the other day what a great bar, with attentive staff trying that little bit harder ,<br/>something lacking  in hospitality today ,thoroughly enjoyed the day and highly recommend<br/>will be back soon

Went on a busy Saturday night with what looked like a hens night and some Christmas parties. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the chicken and my boyfriend has the lamb and both were really nice. The wine selection was decent and not too expensive. The only bad thing was there were a lot of staff servicing our table but we would definitely go again.

Deeply disappointing fall from grace.<br/><br/>Arrived without a booking and initially thought they may be closed - none of the front tables set, none of the outdoor heaters on. But the smokers by the door suggested otherwise. Small bar crowd inside, restaurant busy and about a 16pax Hen's Night table glamming up the centre of the restaurant.<br/><br/>The initial reaction from the Maitre'd should have been a sign - hesitant to take us which we thought was out of reluctance. Turns out it was out of fear of stuffing more things up (his confession as we departed).<br/><br/>Can we have a cocktail while we wait for our table? Yes. Do you have a cocktail list? No. "they're all in my head". So we ordered some standard cocktails (which were very good), and asked to see the wine list. What do we get? A wine list with a list of Cocktail Specials on top, and Cocktail House Specialities inside....<br/><br/>Seated, menus provided, and the menu looks good. And then we wait. And wait.<br/><br/>Water finished, drinks finished, the table next to us orders and the waiter says "oh do you want to order too?". It's tough in those situations to swallow your sarcasm instead of food.<br/><br/>Shared entree of the octopus, which was nicely presented but served warm, which I have not encountered before. Also diced into tiny pieces which made me feel I was more eating a breakfast than an entree. <br/><br/>And then we waited. Piled our entree plates, side plates, martini glasses to one side - ignored. The staff seemed to be dealing with a lot of complaints for the Hen's table about the food - either forgotten orders or returned meals - which didn't install confidence.<br/><br/>Eventually we had to walk to the bar to collect a wine list and ask for more water. This was delivered, empty glassware and entree remained on the table. Finally the Maitre'd arrived again and took our wine order - buy the glass which is unusual for us, but motivated by the fact we didn't want to stay as long as it took to finish a bottle.<br/><br/>Mains finally arrived, and entree/glassware cleared. <br/><br/>Pork belly with (as advertised) "that crackle" was a disgrace. Limp, rubbery skin, with an additional piece of deep fried crackle perched on top. Thoroughly disappointing and flavourless, could not be finished.<br/><br/>Beef cheek equally bland with some kind of potato salad thing with cauliflower. No flavour stood out, and it had two cold and one warm component. Tepid meat never excites me.<br/><br/>Beetroot salad now made the meal comical. Menu reads about roasted beetroot, and ash rolled goats cheese. We were presented with a green salad that had one tinned, sliced beetroot and about a teaspoon of goats cheese. I had one of those moments where what I had in my head was utterly removed from my reality - and it cost $14 as a side. You can buy a lot of beetroot for that.<br/><br/>Our plates were then cleared because our neighbours were. Then the waitress, facing us, turns to her colleague and shouts "hey can you ask these guys if they want dessert?".<br/><br/>No idea why she couldn't have done that because the answer was a resounding no. Now more out of fear than appetite.<br/><br/>At the bar again and the Maitre'd asks how it was. We were honest, "very disappointing". I've been here for corporate lunches often, so I had talked The George up before. But rather than listen to my concerns, the Maitre'd unloaded his frustrations (and I quote):<br/>-we've only been running for two weeks<br/>-the chef is shit<br/>-all the staff are new<br/>-I should have done more to be on top of things tonight<br/>-it's been a completely unacceptable evening<br/><br/>He then "insisted" on giving us 10% discount to apologise. Regardless of the fact that the beetroot salad was a joke and the pork belly inedible, we took the offer and got out fast.<br/><br/>Such a disappointing decline from a really great CBD institution. With so many quality options at Brookfield plaza we really want this to be successful, but it really needs so much work I don't know if it will be possible.

What a shame. In the past when I've been here it's always been pretty good, but when popping in recently on a Friday night just after 9pm what a shock we got. No atmosphere, no music playing, terrible service, all staff busy setting up for the next day. We felt unwelcome and ignored from the minute we stepped in. And to top it off, we were overcharged for drinks. Won't be back.

Have come here for a champagne breakfast a couple of times with the family.  Not a bad venue with a decent breakfast range.  The meals are solid, but nothing special.  Looks like a good place to come for an after work drink!

I don't NORMALLY go for high tea or sort because of the disproportionate price you pay and quantity of food you get, but I guess The George would be an ideal place to go for.<br/><br/>For one, the place is pretty. The decor, the seatings, the bar, the cleanliness and the interior were just designed to create this upper class ambiance perfect for big event including shower, corporate function, birthdays, or farewell (I went for my friend Sophia farewell).<br/><br/>Two, the food is also pretty. 3 tiers of food racked up nicely from appetizers, main and desserts at the very top. Since it was a fixed menu, taste was a hit and miss, some you liked some you didn't. I liked the salmon bread and the corn croissant, but not so much on the quiche. Perhaps they could individualise the menu per customers or create alternative selection - but that would be too much of a hassle wouldn't they? Portion was small - well it was a given - since you didn't really want to eat big for a high tea and you really were paying for the place than the food. Nonetheless one could still argue that the portion could have been bigger.<br/><br/>Staffs were polite and attentive too. They also agreed to help us take some photos.

Lovely place. The staff were very welcoming and the menu had a wonderful selection. My girlfriends and I came here after leaving an awful experience at the 1907 bar on Willian's st, so we were relieved at how welcoming and friendly the staff at The George were. Yes, the menu is a by pricey, but the food and drinks are up to standard, and there are options to fit any budget. Overall, loved this bar.

6-May, Walking down St Georges Terrace and we liked the look of this cafe come restaurant come bar, it looks great with a terrific fit out and decor. The establishment is very clean and well looked after and a visit to the conveniences will prove this - modern and spotless - a pleasure to visit... We found some of the staff to be friendlier than others, not that the others were rude, simply a little distant in their approach. The coffees were good, all of them on this cold morning! I had the granola with yoghurt that arrived in a very large portion with probably too many oats and not enough crunch for my liking but good nevertheless. The breakfast bruschetta was also ordered with a side of poached eggs - again the portion size was very generous and the crusty bread base was great. We also tried a serve of the fried halloumi - this was especially tasty and I could have easily gone for another serve!  Really worth the effort to visit and soak up the atmosphere - really good.

I came here on Friday for a work function. The food was SERIOUSLY AMAZING. Oysters! So much turkish bread, so soft and warm. Cheeses, octopus, chorizo, olives, pate, arancini, prawns, quiches, so many things. There were even a couple of tasty creative. Forks were missing though! They had the heaters on out the back which took the edge off. Service was lovely. Very very impressed and can't wait to come back. Gave me incentive to try lunch or dinner here. <br/>I haven't been here in forever. Can't remember ever eating here. 3 of us came for breakfast. Service was adequate. One of us described the wait staff as surly but I probably wouldn't take it that far. It was just impersonal and not friendly. However they kindly agreed to an odd menu change request. But, why would you remove our side plates whilst we're eating?? Coffees were thimble sized and not raved about.  We ordered the French toast, shakshuka and omelette. We all described our dishes as good. Mine (the French toast) could have done with more fruit. Most people would appreciate that the syrup was served on the side. French toast was very eggy. Overall the experience was fine. No reason to rush back though. Entertainment Book voucher here.

Walking into The George you are greeted by beautiful rustic décor that is full of character. The restaurant dining area is intimate with a cosy fireplace and great furnishings. We were greeted with a friendly smile and led straight to our table near the fireplace (which worked well for me as I was a bit cold). We had booked through redballoon and the package was $208 for a 3 course meal and champagne.

We come here every 3 months. The food is great and the service is unmatchable. The manager lady and the bartender knows us by our name. We feel very much at home here. The sticky date is totes my favorite!
Queen Of Bad Timing
I love any excuse to frock up and rock up for food involved fun - so it's no wonder that the concept of high tea really appeals to me. And then team that up with a hip-hop theme, well you had me at hello.
Papillon
This is one of my favourite place to go for High Tea. Dinner is great too but it can get quiet noisy as there are no partitions between the bar and the restaurant section. The booth seats needs an upgrade. The peeled seat cover pulled my stockings! Not the best way to start the night. The cocktails were great too but was a bit too diluted. Love love love the decor and the marble bar counter
FoodieKitten
Great breakfast spot for group booking! Foods can be pre-ordered to ensure smooth service on the day! Staffs were helpful and dishes were great! Recommended for work function / gathering!

Whoopie. We have permission to head off early for lunch on a Friday. So off we went, braving the cold and the wind as anybody who works in St George's terrace can attest. <br/><br/>First stop was The Terrace. I fully understand that we have no booking so hard to accommodate. Basically the French server said no booking, he cannot sit us. Amazing, restaurant inside was half empty, outside was 3/4 empty. Well I guess it would be too hard to move reserves around to secure a confirmed sale. So off to the George we went. <br/><br/>Arrived at the George. Total different attitude. Again no booking. That's not a problem server said. We were even asked if we want to sit inside or outside? Decided on inside. <br/><br/>Within 2 minutes if sitting, glasses and water arrived. Menus too. Fish of the day explained. Drinks menu given. <br/><br/>Server gave us abt 5 minutes before returning. As we were busy celebrating escaping slavery, we did not even had a look at the menu yet. Server was not fussed abt it. Said will come back in 5. Offer to get us drinks first if we want more time to think and chat. <br/><br/>2 of us got the salmon and 1 of the barramundi. Fish was grilled properly. Skin was charred with the flesh still remaining pink. Pepper was offered and salt for sprinkling. Water was constantly topped up. No service staff harassing us to leave. <br/><br/>So after a "quick" lunch that went for 2 hours, a bottle of champagne, a cheese platter and coffee, I must say that the service is good, ambience is nice and staff are easily obtainable but know how to stay out of the way and remain in the background.

We came in for a quick lunch midweek. We ordered drinks and checked out the menu. <br/>I had Fish & Chips and my company had the Burger. Service was quick and the food was good!

Undeniably one of the most consistently  disappointing restaurants in the CBD.  The waitstaff are inexperienced and inattentive.  You wouldn't think it possible to deliver terrible turkish bread/dips but we were shocked to find ours served with what appeared to be last night's left over veg - pureed into baby pulp with zero flavour.  Any wetter and it could have been soup.  One of our starters didn't even appear and when i mentioned it to the waitperson, she told us it was coming - this is whilst she is handing out our main dishes!  The rabbit ragu was tasteless, stringy and mostly pasta.  You would never guess there was rabbit in there. They had the audacity to charge $36.  It wasn't worth the price of the pasta packet. The pear and rocket salad was just sad and lifeless (limp and soggy).  The Eton Mess was a child's sundae and the meringue that we were so looking forward to, amounted to a mere couple of baby bite-size pieces (which could have been shop bought) on top of sickly icecream with some kind of equally sickly jammy sauce.  The cheese plate was the best part of the meal but it shouldn't have been.  To be fair, the vegetarian cauliflower dish with goat curd was actually edible- but that was not enough to have us going back.  We should have learned our lesson by now.  This is the third time we've experienced this level of disappointment in the last 15 months.  There is just no excuse.  The restaurant wasn't even half full.   And what's with the ripped up seating ?   Poor show guys!

Went there for date night. Service was amazing. Ordered a burger and destroyed it. Manager came and asked us about our experience. She was very nice.<br/><br/>Came in for a second time just for desert.<br/>Epic.<br/>Gf and dairy free.<br/>Bartender made an epic cocktail and he makes good coffee too.<br/>Monday nights are ofteb boring and mundane.<br/>But not at this place for desert.

As a family of 9, it is difficult to get us all together on the one night. Often even more difficult to find somewhere central that provides a hassle-free dining experience. This is one of those gems. No complaints about the food or the service - true value for money. The Entertainment Book discount made it even more so.Must make mention of the celeriac and gruyere balls - they were delish. Overall the food was extremely good - not one complaint from our entire group.Would highly recommend and look forward to a return visit :-)

Visited here for a high tea on the weekend of Mother's Day this year, service was good, quality of the food was excellent, creative ideas, plenty of food ensuing you don't leave on an empty stomach. Lovely atmosphere for a high tea

Interesting food. Slightly disappointing. Fried goods plate? Really? Just no. Not for me. The view of suited men however was. Just saying.........

I was in charge of booking the restaurant for our work dinner. This was music to overbearing, very particular, food loving ears

Always enjoy this place, really cool decoration and ambiance. Not much for vegetarians, your are better getting lots of little starters and tapas style.

Disappointed. I went to the George about a year ago, and I was delighted (however i did not review it). Tonight everything was different. The menu seemed basic and the service matched this. When a venue like the George serves a burger, the expectation is that it will be special not full of overcooked meat and fries that have around longer than the cow that supplied the beef. The lamb dish was very good however, served a little too cool. The service was good to start with, but it was rushed. When desert was declined we were just forgotten and nobody wanted to take our money, this made the evening end on a sour note, which was a real petty.
Joe
Had breakfast here food of good quality however small for the price. Rating 73% in line with expectation.

High Tea. Seriously yum. Freshly made light and perfect for a late lunch.<br/><br/><br/>-----24 May, 2015-----<br/><br/>Hi Tea Highlights. Just had the most delicious high tea. generous serves in tiny portions of some truly delectable treats. Luxury seating too. Space to move and friendly service. What were those almond shaped white chocolate things ? The yummiest chicken filo parcels ever. My only complaint was the savoury pastries would have been nicer served hot. The fizz was really good quality and proper tea not cheap teabags like some places I could name.

Lovely High Tea to celebrate Mother's Day. Never had High Tea before, so didn't know what to expect, and I really enjoyed it at The George. We arrived 30 minutes before our booking and would've been happy to wait or come back, but in fact the table was ready for us so were able to get seated straight away. The service was very attentive, we got an explanation of the different options for High Tea, and our drinks order got taken with no delay. The scones arrived first, then the rest of the nibbles together with the teas. Can't fault the food, everything was delicious (thought the cucumber sandwiches were a bit unimaginative but I am told this is a High Tea staple, so perhaps they have to get served). The teas were lovely and fragrant, and the coffee was very nice as well. A highlight of the afternoon was when I got a call on my mobile (about an hour into the Tea) which turned out to be from The George itself, asking whether I'm still coming for the booking. We all thought it was hilarious that the restaurant was calling me while I was already there, in the middle of the meal. Overall, we had a lovely time celebrating Mother's Day with our first ever High Tea.

Stillwaiting. Overall disappointing. Very poor value for money, all of the mains on our large table were entrée sized. I ordered lamb fillet. Fillet was under seasoned but cooked to my liking. Lentils and barley were terrible, no seasoning, well under cooked and i could barely chew and swallow them. The only reason i ate the lentil barley mix was that i was starving, having waited an hour for my main.<br/><br/>Service was great. Kitchen lets down this venue. Will not be returning.

Overall the service is very good, the tapas excellent (highly recommend the pork belly), a good range of rum and tequila on hand, the single malt range is not really that bad. The beer, wine and cocktail list was also extensive. Another great small bar in the CBD.

High tea. I had high tea here recently. I found that the cost of the tea was very high compared to what you actually received - but I have been told by friends that this is normal for high teas. What was worse was the haphazard service - one person on our table recevied her tea at least half an hour before everyone else, and the rest of us received ours after we had eaten. Also inexplicable was that it took quite a while for the food to arrive - given that it was not hot, I could not understand the delay.
Pverriour75
Lunch today at The George - had the sirloin steak ordered medium rare. While the steak was a little over cooked (closer to medium), it was pretty amazing. One of the best I've had in Perth.
Doreen
HIGH TEA. Everything about our High Tea experience at The George was excellent from the food, the service, the atmosphere and the location. Absolutely nothing negative to say. Without a doubt we would highly recommend it just for a treat or for a special occasion and very reasonably priced. Thanks to all the staff for making my daughters birthday special!!
FoodBean
A good inner city tavern. The place we wanted to go was unexpectedly closed so we went in The George instead. Glad we did. Had a thoroughly good time. Food was decent, without being brilliant (prawn and saffron Arancini with black aioli, crispy salt and pepper squid with housemade ketchup and garlic aioli, hand cut chips with rosemary salt, toasted garlic aioli and tomato sauce). Service was good and they have some decent beers and wines. If they had a dark ale on tap that would top it off nicely. The forecourt is a good place to sit on a summer evening.
Russ
Christmas Party. We just had our company Christmas party here. It was pretty good. One thing that didn't feel okay... sort of felt like we were being pushed out the door was the tables were being moved and ready for the next mornings trade even though we had people still sitting at other parts of the table. I get that having 26 people sitting along a huge table will take up some space, and by all means move the cutlery and plates... but leave the tables surely.<br/><br/>Other than that, great food, good service. I'll be back.

Wonderful High Tea - Very good with allergy & Gluten-free!. I was invited here for a friends birthday party for High Tea, I was a little concerned as I'm Coeliac but it was excellent! We told them ahead of a nut allergy and 2 ppl needing to be strictly gluten free it very, very well done.

Great food and service. They had us out on time for a show at the Convention Centre. The pork belly was excellent as was the dessert.

Friday night dinner. With the Entertainment Book, it was well worth the visit. The burgers, lamb and risotto were great. We had some kids with us and the staff were really accommodating.

Very Nice. Went for a work function and well very impressed, pork belly, oysters and so much more...service was great and a nice vibe. Left very impressed with this classy establishment...

Lovely place. The service we received was prompt, attentive and very friendly. Nice romantic ambience. I had sirloin steak for main and it was cooked perfectly to my liking, delicious and generous. Cocktails were excellent too. I would definitely recommend it.

Lunch. Had a great lunch here and couldnt fault the service. The dutch waitress was excellent and made our lunch very memorable.

I had the pleasure of having high tea at the george. I have to say it was by far the best i have been to! The service was exceptional and the food was amazing! I will glady recommend to everyone and will definitely be back again!

Champagne Breakfast. The wife and I had a champagne breakfast, we both chose the 'big brekkie' which comes with a generous serving of bacon, eggs cooked the way you like, chorizo, filed mushrooms and truss tomatoes.<br/>We ordered the Cloudy Bay Pelorus Champagne which is a complex blend of pinot noir and chardonnay.<br/>The breakfast arrived about twenty minutes from ordering and was delicious, everything was cooked as requested and the chorizo was so tasty! The Cloudy Bay Pelorus matched the food perfectly.<br/>We will be back!!!

Great. Went there with friends on a Saturday night a bit unsure given some of the reviews, but it turned out to be a great evening.<br/>From the moment you walked in you were looked after, cheerful staff who knew what they were doing and always coming with water etc. Food was good and plenty of it. Will certainingly going back.

Favourite lunching location. Seriously love this place. if you havent been get a few people and enjoy The George Experience (their tapas plate) with a bottle of baby doll SSB.. nothing better for a friday lunch with friends.

Bad service, slow & poor communication from Wait staff

Ho hum. High tea is always a pleasant experience, but the food and service at The George were ho hum. First course was mini scones with barely enough jam and cream for half the scones, and the bulk of the high tea consisted of slices of baguette bread with toppings. Acceptable high tea fare, but at the price, I expected more. Had a nice chat with friends, and perhaps we were there on an 'off' day, but I left very underwhelmed. They forgot to bring one of our party her sparkling wine, and delivered the teas to the wrong people in the party too.

Fantastic dinner. After reading reviews I almost cancelled my dinner booking at The George but decided as it was my birthday and I had a very generous coupon to redeem I would go. I have been on The Georges mailing list for 12 months, it's just a matter of filling out a form.My birthday coupon entitled me to a complimentary cocktail and a main meal if I dined with at least one other person who also ordered a main. Where else in Perth?! We arrived just before 6pm and the place was very busy - this time of year one needs to exercise a little patience. It's Christmas. The bar staff (Zoe) and waitress (Natalie) were flatchat but super professional, accommodating and friendly. After an amazing cocktail we were seated in the restaurant (booth, fabulous) and ordered. My barramundi was better than I had last week at one of the Crown restaurants (don't get me wrong, love Crown Perth) and my partner ordered the duck which we can't stop talking about - absolutely superb. I would definitely dine again at The George - bit of a hidden gem in my opinion. Food, service, prices, ambience, dining experience = we were very happy.

Big fan. Very nice decor that creates a quick retreat from the city bustle. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the food absolutely scrumptious! Highly recommended.

Never Again. Wouldn't waste your money. Staff totally uninterested and rude. Had to ask for them to take our order after waiting an hour. Took another hour before the food came out. Servings were small and the food was very average, my meal was disgusting. The only nice thing about the place is the decor. What a shame!

Good atmosphere and not too busy. The nice - I ordered a vegetarian dish - Polenta and Harissa which was tasty. Nice mango chutney or something on the plate was good. All the snow pea shoots were a bit hard to eat. The polenta sticks very fluffy on the inside with a nice crunchy on the outside. I wasnt sure about the Harissa so asked for it on the side. It wasn't super spicy so that was good. The wagyu burger I did not try but it looked decent and there were no complaints. I was tempted to order the chocolate three ways dessert but didn't end up. Pineapple and mint cocktail was refreshing, service was efficient and I would go back.

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Fortnum & Mason any more.<br/><br/>My favourite item at a high tea and hence the benchmark is the simple cucumber sandwich. Today that item was nowhere near being on par. The delicate slices of cucumber were masked with a heavy cream cheese, and the sandwiches were served open on a French stick; a practice more suited to a cocktail function than the delicate sandwiches one expects for a high tea.<br/><br/>Everything else was just "ok", except the scones which were lovely. The service was good, except the constant removal of empty plates and rearrangement of remaining plates was odd, and what ever happened to being asked if you want a certain plate of food replenished at a high tea?

Went there tonight and had to write a review. <br/>Start to finish loved the atmosphere and the food. Can recommend the Salmon and the Pork Belly!!!<br/>Good servings and delicious.

Had a great group function at the George. Food was great, entree scallops, main was a choice between beef and swordfish ( I chose the fish) and hockey pokey chocolate desert with pop rocks. The pop rocks had grown adults giggling like they were kids again. The food was surprisingly good, the best meal I have had in perth so far on my holiday, and we have been to a few big name restaurants. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to book a group function.

Delicious High Tea. Highly recommend the high tea. Food, tea, service and atmosphere were lovely. Great place for celebrations.
Mrs Foodie
Loved our high tea and the service was fantastic and had a good understanding of menu. Look forward to coming back
Miss Muffet
Went for high tea Sunday 4/8. Great service, food was fabulous. Looking forward to going back.

Fabulous. Best breakfast in town and none of that staple bacon and eggs stuff. Modern twists and delightful combinations. Also have really good coffee. Staff are always very sweet.
Natalie Van Der Burg
Great place to enjoy high tea :) Delicious morsels of food and tea, with lovely staff who explain each dish and are happy to help with queries. Been here a few times for high tea, and never leave disappointed...
Matthew Barker
One of those queer places that offer a wonderful, modern, sophisticated decor setting, but the food is a disaster and you would be better off ordering takeaway from a hippie caravan or from a greasy spoon cafe
Michael Webb
This was a disappointment. It looked like a classy cocktail bar with a restaurant area squeezed at the back. The service was just non existent all night and I had to wait 25mins to tell them the fish was cold and raw on the inside...only to be told that the chef said it was cooked to perfection?? They refunded the fish and a bottle of wine, but we won't be going back for a meal.

Had high tea here. Was delicious and the best high tea I've had in Perth!!

Delicious lunch today at The George. I had the chicken breast with pea & potato mash, and veg $30. Nice big portion of chicken. Lovely mash (could've done with a bit more). <br/><br/>Dessert was a chocolate pudding with ice cream - delicious and just the right size. <br/><br/>My companions complimented the coffee. <br/><br/>Loved the service. Attentive and friendly. <br/><br/>Overall, a significantly better experience than my last review of the George's sister restaurant, the Aviary, particularly regarding portion size.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Went for high tea this arvo with a friend. Heard mixed reviews but we enjoyed the afternoon. Chose the $50 option - high tea and French champagne. Champagne came out first - then the food. Food was tasty - but probably not worth that much... Desserts and scones were lovely. Choose the Silver Tea - yum. All in all a nice experience. Did have to ask for our tea though and it took ages to come out :(
Kirsty
The corn croquette breakfast is utterly amazing .. Best breakfast I've ever eaten!
YummyPerthGoodness
Lovely High Tea. Went here for High Tea with my friend last Christmas and it was just lovely. The scones and other delights on the plates were delicious and the service was good. <br/>I would definitely recommend this High Tea experience to others.

Will never return. This Bar promises to be sophisticated with experienced bar staff and many awards - This is untrue!<br/><br/>We went there on a Friday night. We were a group of 4. A person from our group was refused service due to intoxication - She was SOBER!<br/><br/>The George ruined our family reunion. <br/><br/>It showed no class, has an inexperienced team of bar staff and management who have no idea what they are doing.
Natasha Guerinoni
We had high tea, and unlike other reviews, had great service, clean tableware and thought the food was good. In fact those were the fluffiest scones I've ever had with the lightest vanilla cream. It was a much better experience than Tranby House, which specialises in high tea. My one complaint, the decor is dark, which is a shame if it is a nice day out. So maybe one for a rainy day.
LGFantastic
High Tea. We visited a few Sunday's ago and found the service to be good but they failed to see a massive brown crack in my tea cup -so much so my tea was leaking. They took away my full cup and returned an empty one. My pot had one tea cup left and when I asked for another pot was offered hot water to the existing pot or pay for another fresh pot!! The high tea was ok and we didn't like the constant interruptions of taking down our plates and then removing them one by one as we finished a layer. Would have been nice not to have had the rushed feeling - I've had better and worse so my experience sits in the middle. I liked the décor but we won't be rushing back at $40 each. They could learn a few tips from the Pan Pacific 12/10 $48 but so divine !!
Bella
My sister and I come here for breakfast at least once a week. After trying out many other places on the terrace we have found the george to be the friendliest and most satisfying. Its not overpriced unlike other places and the staff are ALWAYS attentive and personable. Highly recommend this place!

Loved it!. Booked in for our 10 year anniversary for a large group & we were not disappointed! Great service, great food, price was reasonable. Love the ambiance & decor. Would highly recommend & will be back!

Over priced city eating.....avoid the parking fees and high tea in the suburbs.

High tea at The George. Eager to try out The George for the high tea, we booked in for a birthday treat one Sunday afternoon. The experience at The George was pretty average. In fact, it was bordering on average. It wasn't so much the food - bagels were a bit bland, but ok. Sweets were good - scones, excellent. Tea was a bit flavourless (perhaps it's not stored properly? or needed a good 7 minute brew??). It was the service and the high tea experience that really let The George down. All high tea guests are seated at the back, and as one of the first few for the 1pm session, we weren't seated at one of the booths (perhaps these are requested?) but at one of the tiny two people tables. We chose our high tea course. Then we sat there. And waited. And waited. No service. Until I asked if we could order some tea. The strainer dish was encrusted with food. While these might be minor matters I could overlook somewhere else, I was paying over $40 for what is overpriced tea, cakes and sandwiches. And that's exactly the feeling I had when stepping out the door - never to return.
Food Fanatic
Walk on. The food here is bad, so inconsistent from one time to another. We tried again after an ok meal, but this time the food was overcooked, just not nice to eat. For the prices we expected better this time, not worse. The service is also off, especially when staff just look at you until you call them over, and not just on arrival either. There are so many good places on the Terrace now, that it's not worth putting up with below par. Keep walking and go where they care about their food.
Pheebs
Slightly below average, glorified (and very overpriced) pub food, without quality to match the prices charged. Bones found in my salmon fillet and mate's crumbed pork cutlet was dry and fat yak battered fish and chips were pretty ordinary for $25 (same can be found in a beachside takeaway shop). Avoid this place.

Went last Saturday night with my husband and 'friend' (unfortunately two others bailed on us! ) they missed out! We had such a good night, service, food, atmosphere, wine list and cocktails were impressive!! We will be back! Thankyou to your lovely wait staff they made our night!

Great new menu. Went to the george new menu is amazing ... cheap for the terrace ... heaps of choice plates looked very sexy !!! <br/>desserts were Amazing !!!! snickers WOW!!! <br/>we had the steak it was different from the common steak and veg !! steak and mushroom with a twist !!! will be back with my friends for sure ... <br/>service was attentive and friendly ... comfortable and not pretentious like many venues on the strip ..

Went last night for valentines. Booked it weeks in advance, upon arrival we were shown a set menu which I was told nothing about while booking it. Both starters were beetroot which I did not like at all. Duck or salmon for main, and it wouldn't have fed a child. The duck was well below average and the salmon wasn't much better. Desert was ice cream with a chocolate finger cake. That was nice but then again deserts are always nice. We were seated under the aircon duct and were freezing the entire meal. I was unimpressed with the meal and will not be going back again.
Ade
Good food! But the portions were very small!!!

WOULD GO BACK. Went with a group of girlfriends on a Friday mid afternoon, we had booked as we were told it gets busy, even pre-ordered a platter for the table. We had a booth which was great. Could not have asked for better service from all the staff. The cocktails were the best I've had. Disappointed to read other reviews as we could not have been more impressed with every facet of our afternoon/evening at The George.
Sawylie
Dinner this evening with colleagues - mixed platter for 60 dollars was uninspiring (battered mushrooms, crusted tuna - the type you find in a tin). Also found a large piece of plastic in the bread dip...never again.

Recently held a my sisters birthday at the george for high tea. Was extremely impressed by the friendly attentive service we received, all felt welcome. The food was great as was the ambiance of the venue. Will definately be back.

Not bad. We came here last night (wednesday night) there was 4 of us, they did seat us near a large table of loud men and there was heaps of other tables around, there was only 4 other groups in the entrie venue and they group you all together. that was the only down fall. Our waiter was great, always checking up on us, had a good sense of humor even when i asked for the fancy take on the fish and chips. we did have to wait a bit for starters, because of the large group behind us, but that didnt worry us at all, more time to catch up with our friends. our starters were amazeballs!!!! we had the pork belly, stuffed peppers and chorizo, small servings but it was enough for the 4 of us. mains werent to far behind, the boys had the gnochhi, i had the fancy fish and chips and my friend had the baby chicken, and we could not fault any of this.. all delish! dessert we had the gingerbread cake and the chocolate cheesecake, again could not fault it. small yes but why on earth would you want a large serving of dessert. <br/>Overall, we had a lovely night, food was A+ and the service was great! will come back again soon.
Michelle Jarvis
High Tea @ The George. Really lovely intimate setting, great set up for a largish group (long table for 12 people). Love the T2 teas on offer! A good selection of food that left us all full, and a modern take on what could be a stuffy traditional afternoon tea. Overall, I thought it was good value.
Renato
Expensive and poor service. Food was good but expensive and very small portions. $370 for 5 people. Small menu to choose from.<br/>Service was below average as all 3 waitpersons could not answer basis questions about the menu. We ordered red wine and TWICE the waiter bought over and opened white wine. We booked ahead for a Tuesday night and they put us at an unset table near a large group with a pram so difiicult for us and them. When topping the wine glasses they only filled 2 of the 4 glasses.<br/>2% charge for credit card payment. Rip off !!<br/>Wont be going back.
Mystery Diner
Just ok. I really liked this place after been there for drinks a few times and had always wanted to dine there. Finally I went there on a friday night - very busy as expected but the service was still good. I ordered fish & chips, figured that I couldnt go wrong with this - but I was wrong, the fish was soggy (yuck!). The chocolate dessert was nice though! very small portion but so filling! Friends ordered steak and baby chicken (bird size) and really enjoyed it. The place was very noisy and we couldn't have any conversation without yelling at each other. I will stick to just drinks at this place.

Great reliable food. The food is fantastic every time we dine at the George, service is questionable though but I will put up with that to enjoy the food! <br/>I recently came for High Tea too and throughly enjoyed it.
Amber D
My colleagues and I often have breakfast or just coffee here to start the day. The food and service is always first class. Try the granola for brekkie, to die for!

Good atmosphere typical city centre bistro. Food is nice and well presented but not value for money. We even got the bill placed in front if us before desserts had been served. $36 for cheese platter with around $8 value on the plate.

New barista at the George!!!? Will be taking my clients else where for coffee. I am a regular and start my day with a amazing coffee from the George. Sad to say will not be coming back for a watery cup of Luke warm mess!<br/><br/><br/>-----27 Sep, 2012-----<br/><br/>Stumbled across the George this morning running for cover to get out of the rain. A young kiwi girl invited me inside to have a coffee and wait till the rain passed. I said I felt like something sweet so she made me the most beautiful gingerbread latte. Amazing. Warmed me right up.

Just had a wonderful barista this morning make my coffee from 'The George' a lovely NZ chic made my day :)) great coffee!! They do take away coffee & breaky who new??

Dinner for five great food good selection and knowledge of Scotch. Staff where friendly and service was good. The only criticism is no reserve bottles of Scotch and wine, we had to change horses mid stream on both. At just over $100 a head for three courses with drinks good value and we'll be back.

HIgh Tea. High Tea at The George - a truly fabulous way to celebrate my 40th with wonderful friends. It was perfect - food was delightful, lovely ambiance, excellent service with a smile. Would highly recommend The George!

High Tea, High Rip Off - RUN AWAY. If you and a group are deciding to have High Tea, do yourself a favour and walk out of the George and head down the road to the Duxton.<br/><br/>It is Sunday, a quiet rainy afternoon in Perth, a group of 34 ladies turned up to a "Booked" table at 1pm to celebrate a birthday. By 1.45 all they had served us was a glass of water. Come 2.30 after much complaining, we got a glass of champagne (the water had gone warm by now). FINALLY at 2.45pm we got a few sandwiches, cold scones with some chocolate and tea! The George, you should be ashamed of yourself for this service. You had 10 staff members running around like lost chooks. We would have been better off at McDonalds. I'm giving this place a 1/10.

Lunch at The George = "mis-steak". I have been a patron of The George since it first opened. During this time I have seen a fantastic venue with excellent service and food reduced to an overpriced and disappointing establishment.<br/><br/>When ordering a steak cooked medium rare, I wouldn't expect having to saw through it vigorously with a steak knife, then having my request for a replacement met with arrogance and the explantion that "it was probably overcooked because it had been sitting on the table for so long....steaks do continue to cook on the plate you know " <br/><br/>The replacement steak was slightly better, medium rare in the middle at least, however rare on one side and medium-well on the other.<br/><br/>Perhaps they need to invest in a new frying pan that distributes heat evenly. Oh and some new and polite wait staff.

Went here for my birthday dinner. I was very impressed by the decor and atmosphere as we arrived, but soon got dampened , we were seated and then didn't see a staff member for 10 minutes, no menu, no drink, we had to call somebody over eventually, we then received a greeting of " What would you like MATE" !!!! Not impressed with that. My husband soon picked the male staff member up on that and then he proceeded to say "thanks Guys". In a class restaurant i would expect, Sir or Mam. Anyway the food was amazing. Staff are not good, they were all chatting out the back and it wasn't overly busy so i would have thought that the service would be impeccable. The Matre Di was good but thats all. Will go back here and fingers crossed the staff will pick up there act.

Devine High Tea. I took my mother and daughter here for high tea recently and we all enjoyed the experience immensely. Both myself and my mother devoured every crumb on the plates, with a highlight being the raspberry jam with a hint of chilli, plus the decadent cream for the scones, my daughter although only aged 4.5 loved her fairy bagel the most! Probably a little expensive for someone so young, but it was a special occassion, and with ipad in tow we managed to while away the entire afternoon with no whining! The tea selection is more inspiring than C Restaurant, so too was the cakes on offer, but then again nothing compares to C Restaurant views. Given the choice between the two I would pick The George over C Restaurant for high tea, as it seems more relaxed, elegant and you are not rushed out ready for the dinner crowd.

Great high tea. High tea Sunday 1st July 1pm. I caught up with three girlfriends and we spent a wonderful 3 hours enjoying high tea. The food was lovely, and they even catered to me with a special seperate "pregnancy friendly" menu. Service was good with friendly waiters, the menu was thoroughly explained, the food brought out promptly and used plates cleared quickly. Lovely gourmet tea selections too. My girlfriends had the french bubbles option which unfortunately I could not partake in :-)

I love the George... You go to the George... You know why and what you are there for... Love it.... Favorite Friday night!!! If you don't like it... Why write about it??? Don't go! But we all know we love it!!! If you don't like what the George is about.... go home!!!

Passed its used by date... Title says it all. Over priced, rude staff, average food and full of sleazy types on a Friday.

Best breakie we have had so far on our stay in Perth. Friendly staff & great food !

Yes to High Tea. Had a lovely afternoon at The George for High Tea. The staff were friendly and accomodating when our party of three grew to four. We had a little accident with one of our glasses of bubbly and the staff efficiently moved us to the lounge area while they reset our table and replaced the glass of bubbles with no extra charge. The food was lovely and fresh and just the right amount. The mini bagels were delish and the scones light and fresh with jam with a twist and a nice mix of citrus, pastry and chocolate treats. All in all one of the best High Teas I have had in Perth.

The Best!. I eat out regularly in the city and head to the George a fair bit - I know the food is always good, the service is good and it is just a reliable venue to dine at for business lunches or dinner with friends. <br/>The bar pumps on a Friday night too! Have been back and will be back.
Eatingout
Hasn't improved. Quick drink Saturday evening 2nd June. Service has gotten worse if that's possible, rude and almost to the point of telling us we were too old to be there.......given the service we got 5 minutes later at the new Bobech bar, I doubt the George will be around in 12 months time...........just like XO bar went, so will this place and it's obnoxious staff<br/><br/><br/>-----27 Mar, 2012-----<br/><br/>I agree with "that fat guy" staff are rude and arrogant especially the male manager we encountered. Make a cocktail how the client wants not how the staff want

Love The George, great staff and fabulous food..

Great Breakfast. I can recommend the full cooked breakfast here - great food and pretty good service.<br/><br/>Could become my new regular breakfast spot....

The place to be on a Friday night. It's very rare that you find a venue that has been around for a few years and still is going as strong as ever.<br/>The staff actually look like they are happy to be there! <br/>Cocktails are awesome, must admit the hot bartenders help them go down a little faster than they probably should. <br/>See you tonight!
Nate
Brilliant. Simple - the george described in one word BRILLIANT!<br/>The food was brilliant, service brilliant, drinks brilliant. I will be back!
Dame Edna
Why is wrong with this place? The customers are not here for the bar, the bar is here for the customers. The staff are too arrogant to even talk to us meager Office crowd and are the most unhelpful staff from any bar Ive been in in the CBD. Ask for a drink at the bar, they send you to another bar where no one is serving. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
ThatFatGuy
Rude, Arrogant and Aweful.... the only way to describe service at The George. A great venue with loads of potential utterly ruined by staff that treat their customers with contempt. Don't waste your time going here as the staff will just make you feel like you are wasting theirs!
Craig Rowe
Not what it used to be. Used to go to the george every friday night and the place was always great fun with good music, good cocktails and good demographic. just seems now though that it's become a bit pretentious and lost a lot of it's class. maybe just the demographic has changed. food is fine, without knocking your socks off.
Lyra Olivia
I love this elegant gem smack bang in the middle of the city! Great good, awesome spirits list and cocktails with a twist. I'll keep returning!

First High Tea experience an enjoyable one. Visited The George on Sunday for a High Tea, my first High Tea experience. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and I was thoroughly satisfied as were the other guests (our reservation was at 1pm and I had eaten a very light lunch before attending). I chose the Stockholm blend tea and even though I don't usually drink tea, I really enjoyed the flavoursome taste and aroma. I was also impressed that our water glasses were constantly topped up as I like to drink lots of water.<br/><br/>Thank you to The George for a lovely High Tea.

An underwhelming high tea. I never knew The George specialised in High Tea, after seeing it mainly as a place that the rat race flocked to on Friday afternoon to drown their sorrows about the stressful week they just had and what was installed for the next. But as I entered the doors (after finding a park at the overpriced Atrium car park) the room was packed with young and old women grazing on scones and pastries, with the odd male sitting there formulating an exit strategy. Due to our large numbers we were in the function room which was good as we were able to mingle with ease between the two tables. There was a good selection of teas available however due to being a coffee addict I ordered a long black. Should I have been traditional, Chai tea would have been the tea of choice. Sipping on champagne tied us over until the tea and coffee came out with scones, jam and cream to accompany it. The scones were light a fluffy and the jam was clearly homemade with the cream having a nice taste of vanilla to it. It was unfortunate however that after this course it was a long time till the tiered cake stand presented itself with the remainder of the food. By this stage another round of coffee and tea would have been nice but must not be included in the price of $37 p/p. The wait staff ensured that each party member was told about each individual item on the stand, which I was impressed by. It did seem strange however to be tucking into rare beef and smoked chicken sandwiches after starting on sweet scones. The highlight of the assorted cakes was the small lemon tarts topped with passionfruit, although the chocolate pistachio cake was also another clear favourite. Ialso commend the chef for catering for my gluten intolerant friend, who was served an individual assortment of cakes and pastries which was equally as appetising. Although the food was enjoyable, the odd presentation and lack of refills with the tea and coffee left me a little underwhelmed considering the price. I did not walk out the door feeling like The George was Perth's best high tea restaurant, which was a shame as it seems to have the potential to do so.

On the fence. Okay so this place is great for friday night drinks, sleek decore, buzzing atmosphere...but dinner on saturday night was slightly disappointing. I had the fish of the day which was really quite tasty however our dining experience was somewhat ruined by the waiters who seemed more interested in chatting to there friends on another table (who I was told also worked there) than providing us with any kind of service! We were left to our own devices most of the night...let's just say I wont be heading there again for dinner any time soon!
Rebecca
Service was loud obnoxious and slow at best. Spent more time poring water then attending to our needs or dishes. Food was tasty and sizes were as you would expect for a menu of this caliber, pity about the service.

High Tea- Deliciousness. I took a girlfriend to high tea at the George for her birthday and we were both pleased with the experience. At first we were a little concerned because we thought we might be the only diners at the place but then we quickly noticed that high tea is conducted at the back of the restaurant, it was a lovely secluded little area. <br/><br/>Luckily we got a booth (which was good because we had a wee-one with us and he was happy to sit on the comfy seat-- they don't have high chairs). The service was prompt and helpful and the waiter suggested teas for us dependent on our taste buds, we both ended up getting the stockholm tea which was flavoursome and well balanced (also they were very good at filling up water, I love water and drink a lot, so this always stands out for me). <br/><br/>We had phoned ahead to request a vegetarian service and were pleased with the selection. Beautiful Camembert cheese, chilli beetroot, feta, olive etc. The scones were so different and light and the jam was amazing! <br/><br/>I probably wasn't too keen on the caramel slice (which was disappointing as this is usually my favourite sweet) but, in reality I'm only finding a small fault in a lovely experience.<br/><br/>Delicious food and great service-- happy with the price and would go again.
Marissa Dee
Disappointing..... Popped in at lunctime for the $8 coffee and cake advertised on a mirror out the front. Walked in to an empty venue and sat down to have a young girl immediatley take our order. I asked for a caramel latte only to be told "we don't do those" so i settled on a latte while the other two who accompanied me got a hot chocolate and a Coke. We asked what cakes there were on offer, only to be met with an "I don't know". She then called across at another wait person who ran into the kitchen to check. She came back with the answer of caramel slice which sounded just perfect, so we all ordered a slice. The drinks came out quickly and the cake followed soon after, but it was dusted with icing sugar and dressed with a strawberry - which didn't seem very "caramel slice" to us. The waitress who served it said "it's not caramel slice" - oh really? When we asked what it was she had to check before telling us it was chocolate brownie. After ordering a caramel slice this seemed like a let down but as my friend said "chocolate is our friend" so we dug in. It was a very dry, flavourless biscuit of a brownie. After expecting a silky caramel slice, it did not come anywhere near hitting the spot. It was made worse by the fact that I have made better brownies myself - on a first try.<br/>For $8 i guess I can't really expect much but if you advertise coffee and cake, there should be more than 1 option, and if you are told what that option is, that is what you should be served. The George - I know I'm not asking too much of you here.
Damo
Would I come back? Not sure. Perhaps The George just got me on a bad night? I can't really fault the food and the atmosphere and music was fabulous. But (still) sitting here I am wondering if I'll come back and to be honest I am forgetting the experience already; so something must be missing.
Christie
High Tea - there are better places!. A group of 4 ladies off to High Tea. Booth was nice and private, so request one if possible, service was fine. Choice of sweet and savories also fine but not outstanding. Tea (had the Chai) was dismal, I have tasted better out of a teabag. On their tea menu it suggests serving with milk and honey, but then The George don't offer honey! In fact the only sugar on the table was white suger cubes. Champers a tad overpriced.<br/><br/>One would think for the price you pay it should have been better.<br/><br/>Also note there is a requirement for credit card details to be held, and a $20.00 charge for guests who don't attend. Also a CC surcharge of 3%

It was enjoyable, but.... ...I don't really think it was good value. I had lunch here today with a girl friend from work. She had reserved a table but they didn't put a reserved sign on he table so we had to oust a poor lady from the table before we could sit. Not the best considering it is markets itself at the higher end of the market. I had the crab and preserved lemon risotto. The flavour was lovely and it was creamy, however, it was slightly undercooked, a bit too firm as opposed to being really al dente. My friend had the barramundi which she didn't really comment on so I assume it was nice, it looked nice. We ordered a bottle of cab merlot and the waitress brought us a glass each, we said that we wanted a bottle and she said that she would bring us glasses but just charge us for the bottle which we agreed to. However, when she brought us our second glass, she said the bottle would only give us 5 and half glasses. Now bear in mind that the glasses were very small and only filled to low mark, there is no way that 5 and a half of those would be a bottle. When she brought us the 5th glass, she said that was it. It was $50 for the bottle and I estimate we only received half of that. We also ordered desert. I had the chocolate tart. It was nice but no knife and the tart was very firm so it nearly went flying went I went to break it up to eat it. Again the flavour was nice but didn't blow me away. My friend had the croissant pudding which was delicious! So, in summary, it was enjoyable meal but not really good enough considering it cost about $170!

Catch of the day reeled in another sucker!. I ordered the catch of the day ($38) which sounded nice snapper, prawns with dill and wilted spinach. It was a very small piece of fish with soggy skin, 3 very fishy tasting, tough as bullets prawns and a small mound of spinach that my friend who loved spinach tried and agreed tasted terrible. I fid the right thing and told the waitress that the food wasn't nice and the prawns were overcooked. She gave my feedback to chef who apparently said that they would take it into condideration. I wasn't offered a discount or sny thing else. Unfortunately, I won't be back and neither will another friend who had the same dish. Very disappointed with the price, portion, quality of produce and the cooking.

Overpriced and under deliver. 1. I celebrated my 40th birthday there recently with my girlfriends and are disappointed with the food there. The lemonade scones were served first which was strange, than followed by the savoury and the sweets. So we jumped from sweet to savoury and sweet. I would prefer if they are served last if they do not all fit into the trays. The savoury were not finger sandwiches as expected in a traditional high tea but rather the fillings placed on top of small baguette like bread. The most disappointing have to be the sweets. We were given 3 selections - a tiny cream puff, small chocolate eclair and a dry square of chocolate cake. All which can be purchased from my local bakery. For a high tea, I would have expected the sweets to be more decadent, a tart of some sort, a meringue perhaps and something which is not cheap and easy to make. It is way too expensive for what you get and my girlfriends and I would certainly not return there again.

Below average food. Went there for a quick meal last night on way to the theatre, had the crispy pork belly with scallops and cauliflower puree. Terrible meal. All very flavourless, scallops were not cooked well and there was no sauce and very little seasoning on the pork. My partner had the lamb which he said was ok but the meal was almost cold. Considering how much we paid for the meal and the ordinary service I would not recommend anyone go here for dinner.

Nice surrounds, shame about the rest. Myself and 3 friends had High Tea at The George yesterday. First thing we noticed was the paltry amount of food that each person received for their $36 (this is the starting price, without champagne). <br/><br/>When we inquired if more open sandwiches could be brought out, Waitress #1 (her name was Patty) informed that each person has set portions. That was it. No option to order off the menu. When Waitress #2 asked us how our table was, we again said that the portions of food were small. When one of my friends shyly said "We're still a bit hungry," Waitress #2 screwed up her face, said "No problems" and just walked off. Service is clearly low on the list of credentials for wait staff here.<br/><br/>At the end of the meal, Waitress #1 came back and started clearing our table, said "I'm going to have to ask you ladies to leave the table soon because we're clearing up" (whatever happened to 'asking' politely: "Excuse me, but would you mind finishing up as we're clearing up?"), AND she did all this without even looking any of us in the face. There was no option to even sit at the bar afterwards. As we left the venue, she didn't even bother to greet us on the way out.<br/><br/>So, my review for this place:<br/>* nice food but overpriced for what you get; even the scones were miniscule (I know that you're not supposed to scoff your face at these kind of functions, but when four people all leave still very hungry after having forked our $36 each, that says something about the place)<br/>* AWFUL service; I nor my friends will be back. <br/><br/>There are many other places in Perth that do High Tea where patrons will have a more satisfying experience... without waitress attitude.

High tea with a few lows. I get and mostly applaud innovation. But serving your first layer of high tea using crusty french sticks instead of delicate sandwiches with the crusts cut off did nothing for the genre. High tea should be a leisurely pursuit where even your jaw can relax. I missed those delicate sandwiches. The toppings (chicken, beef and smoked salmon) were tasty (if a little dry - barely a wave of any of the accompanying aioli, chutney and caper cream), but very inconsistent servings - making the sharing between 4 hungry adults a test of friendship. The final straw for me however was using margarine. Epic fail.<br/><br/>Moving to the second layer, the lemonade scones were a nice touch and the blue cheese marmalade tarts held promise. But alas, I needed to CSI them for the promised tangy mould. Nice enough, but no punch.<br/><br/>At the top layer were some well made lemon meringues - short pastry and zesty filling, however the meringue was a little 'rare' for my liking. The mini chocolate eclairs were not bad; a good choux and custard filling but a 'meh' chocolate topping.<br/><br/>Forgot to mention the tea was good, but how hard is to pour hot water over leaves? All in all disappointing. Won't be back.<br/><br/>Oh and I forgot to mention the hoops you need to jump through to secure a high tea booking. Credit card required and threats of various charges should people cancel even three days prior. Sheesh. Get over yourself George.

The George does it well. First of all, this place loves amazing and fancy - but lunches are really reasonable. A friend and I often catch up here and don't blink at paying $20 for a meal and a drink. For a little more you can choose something outside the special lunch menu and the wine or beer desired. <br/><br/>The food is delicious and serving sizes are perfect. They also have an every changing menu which is great. <br/><br/>By night this place does more a la carte food mixed into the usual after work crowd having a few drinks. Its just a lovely place to hang out whatever time of the day. <br/><br/>The best thing about this place is its head chef - a young lady working here and running another pub in crawley - she does some amazing work. <br/><br/>Her full ability is displayed once a month when the wine nights are held - each month a new wine run by a famuly business (such as mc williams) is displayed with a family member present. Each of the wines on display that night (usually four - two red and two white) is perfect matched with a canape. These canapes are to die for and are the reason we head there month after month... Blue brie cheese wrapped in proscuitto then crumbed and deep fried topped with a small piece of star fruit. Or medium-cooked peppered venison skewers topped with blueberry couli. Or raw salmon on a bed of seaweed topped iwth roasted pieces of nori and fish roe. Oh each one of these canapes are a burst of flavour in your mouth so make sure you try and get along to one of these wine nights!

Groovy. I walked in snd wondered why everyone said this place was 'just a bar'. I thought it was a swanky bistro or something. Then I saw the t.v's. Oh yeah, bar. <br/>Apart from that this place has got some really good things about it, nice romantic area, outside where you can have a beer, formal dinner place where you can have some really nice food, which we did. Heavily Asian influenced menu, lime and coconut in quite a few, but doesn't limit your ordering. We had a bunch of food and weren't disappointed in anything. Staff were attentive and switched on. <br/>I felt classy in shorts and sandals.

Shame the service was terrible as the menu and food was terrific.. I recently dined at the George mid week for lunch, it was not busy at all but the service received was next to nothing. Waiting 40 minutes for dessert is rather disappointed the staff seemed uninterested and lacked attention to the small number of patrons they had this day. Won't be going back in a hurry and this is a real shame as the food and menu is some of the best in the CBD.
Trust Me
Girls day out anyone?. Get a group of girls and go to The George. High tea is a lot of fun and heck why not have a glass of champs or sparkling wine with your chilli scones with rasberry & cream. Decor is gorgeous and surprisingly it being a bar/restaurant by night it still looks so elegant in the afternoon. I give the food a 10 out 10.

Too slow!. I made the mistake of assuming that this place would be as fast as the hustle and bustle of the Avenue it's situated on and named for. Ordered the penne on the lunch special. It took 40 minutes for the dish to arrive. This was particularly annoying as I was on my one hour lunch break. And to add insult to injury, when they did finally arrive the penne were tasteless.

Still Got it!. I have been frequenting The George for the last 2 1/2 years that it has been open, we have tried all the other bar and restaurants they have popped up along the way, but i always find myself and my friends going back to the George.<br/>The $22 lunch specials everyday - High Tea on weekends (tried it once, cant wait to go again!) and what can i say about Friday nights - so many hot business men!!<br/>Get on the phone and make a booking now!
FatCat
Hot, hot, hot.. Warning - ex-Melbournian diatribe to follow. Wwhy,WHY, WHY do you keep your restaurant wide open on a 38 degree and 60% humidity day and then make us wait 1 hour to bring our food? It was horribly hot and uncomfortable ( unlike my pasta which although very tasty, was luke warm....although given my internal temperature at the time, why am I complaining about a meal that was cooler than me?). You have airconditioning people, please, please use it - that's why we booked a table for 8 inside. So...despite my grumpy diatribe I will be going back to give it another go - it's an impressive looking space, good value in the $22 for main course and a wine or beer for lunch and very friendly service (poor buggers, all I had to do was sit there and whinge - they were run off their feet!!)

Excellent. I have been to The George twice now. Once for high tea which was fantastic and for lunch recently which was also great. Had the $22 lunch special which included a glass of wine or beer. Very yummy and the service from the girls waitressing was second to none. They obviously know what they're doing and have skilled chefs. Such a rare thing in Perth these days. Will definately go back. Keep it up!

Worth treating yourself to the high tea. This is one of the better high teas in Perth. Funky decor, good service and great food. There are different price options depending on what drinks you would like and the quantity of food is just perfect.<br/><br/>Beautiful light and fluffy scones, cream and jam to start followed by a range of savoury items. Bubbles to accompany the high tea and a good selection of loose teas to choose from. To finish off some divine caramel slice and lemon meringue tart.<br/><br/>Service was good and the chef was more than willing to accomodate a pregnant woman unable to eat a number of the original items. A big thumbs up.

I like it a lot. A great spot right around the corner from work. Best steak I have had in a long while. Very classy, great friendly staff.<br/>Also went for a work function and we were all very well looked after. We had a vegeterian in our party and they were well pleased. Highly reccomended

Wonderful high tea birthday!. I celebrated my birthday at the george, for high tea, unusual for a bar, but WOW did they do a good job. thoroughly enjoyed it and the fact that it wasn't packed to the brim was especially nice. we were well looked after and the adventurous, a little left of centre high tea menu was exactly what i was looking for. The lemonade scones with vanilla cream and chilli jam was delish! as were the blue quiches and the pav! definately recommend this place if you are looking for a high tea adventure!

Tried this place for lunch a while back. Extremely disappointing. We both ordered the steak, rare. Not difficult. Steak and chips were cold and the steak was medium. Nice enough as a bar

Overpriced but nice. I've been to The George a couple of times, the first was for lunch where they have a set menu which is pretty overpriced for what it is.<br/><br/>The second was for dinner on a Thursday night. The pub was packed and it was very noisy in the restaurant. The food was pretty amazing, but also pretty expensive. A little overpriced for what it was.<br/><br/>I'd go back again, but only because of the convenience being right on St Georges Terrace

Fashion over Function. Another cool young chef place. Seems like anyone with a white jacket, a bad haircut and cheesy tattoos gets to be famous these days. I really like the barman I spoke to, and the booze list was extensive and interesting.<br/><br/>The food however was boring boring boring. Not bad, but certainly not worthy of the purple prose coming this place's way. Quite frankly, I think everything regarding this kitchen is a marketing triumph, seems like they just found a female version of The Greenhouse's Matt Stone and sold the hell out of her.<br/><br/><br/>Come in for a drink, but don't bother eating

Let down. I booked The George for a corporate lunch and was surprised to see a $450 venue hire charge on our final bill...apparently venue hire is noted in the fine print of the function package so make sure you ask about it when booking a function there...it's not information offered up when making a booking.

Great place unfortunately there needs to be another 5 just like it as it's way to busy on a Friday afteroon.

I love this place. Fridays are great. Good beer range and fantastic food

The George in the Terrace has an outside sitting area on the footpath which seems to be very popular; inside is a large, nicely furnished and equipped open and airy space which serves as the bar and casual eating area, while towards the back, fenced off with partitioning, is a more formal dining room. We went along the other night – four of us – and chose to sit in the dining room at the back. Lady FWO and I arrived first and were seated – but then seemingly forgotten – no water, no menu, no drinks list – after 10 minutes or so I got up and waylaid a waiter. Things then picked up a notch – the lists arrived, as did water, and then the first of our guests. The George claims itself as a “sophisticated restaurant” but the initial lack of service did not give that impression. Anyway on to the menu -it is divided into Small Bites – olives; bread and dips; arancini; meatballs; fried chicken and the like – Mains, which included gnocchi, duck breast, pork belly, fish and chips – and From the Grill – sirloin and eye fillet. Some sides and desserts rounded it out. There is also a Specials of the Day list, and one of our party chose the Cajun chicken and salad from that – it comes with a drink. He went for James Squire pale ale. For the rest of us, we ordered four of the Small Bites – feta and watermelon salad; prawn and saffron arancini; tomato and mozzarella croquettes; and salt and pepper squid. The squid was a little overcooked, too crisp, even a touch burned, but was still quite tasty. The salt and pepper spices were about right, and the garlic aioli was creamy and well flavoured. A little less time in the pan would have been better, we thought. The salad came with a large square of feta – it would have been more attractive and better presented if this had been shredded and sprinkled throughout the dish; the water melon while still juicy had the appearance of being cut some time before and had lost its edge of freshness. I tried the herb and potato cakes, with poached eggs, bacon and hollandaise ($20) – it sounded like a bit of fun twist on the classic eggs benedict and a good way to start the morning. On the whole I enjoyed it – the bacon was salty and superbly cooked, and the hollandaise was thick, tangy and plentiful. A big tick for the eggs, which were perfectly poached, with bright yellow-orange yolk oozing invitingly onto the plate making me super happy.

You’ll find the George on St George’s Terrace, long a lunch and evening haunt of professionals courting colleagues or clients over a drink, it’s now open for breakfasts too! The decor is that kind of luxe that works the crossover between day and night, and it feels a little odd to be sitting down to breakfast amongst the velvet trim. It does have the signs of a nice eatery though they are inexperienced with breakfast cuisine. It’s very spacious inside, we could see it as a perfect place for breakfast meetings or a stop in on your way to the office like we were doing. The coffee was decent, better then we were expecting but nothing too special.

With an old world charm The George is a worthy consideration for both private & business functions & a hearty meal anytime from breakfast through to dinner.

You get a choice of teas from T2 with your high tea, I had a lovely Chamomile and Lavender but they also had Buddha's Tears, Choc Chip Chai, Perth Breakfast and more.

Overall, the service was fantastic; the tea tasty but but not strong; and the food sweet, small and rich.

What a blissful and sunny start to our day! Starting off with a delicious brunch at the Greenhouse with my family and the boy, the morning got even better when Dad gave me a generously sized suitcase filled to the brim with beautiful Robert Robert and Diavolina shoes. Most importantly, the suitcase contained some super-hot shoes for the party tonight! I headed home with my love to spend the afternoon preparing ourselves to look our very best for the big party. One of my bridesmaids, Amber was so kind to offer to go The George without me earlier in the afternoon so she could set up everything for the night. This meant all I would have to do would be to arrive on time! She is such an angel! The afternoon flew by surprisingly quickly and before I knew it we only had a short time until things were due to kick off!! I slipped on my shimmering Alannah Hill dress matched with the cutest flower headband, kicked on my most awesome shoes from Dad and jumped in the cab hand in hand with the boy!

thought this dish presented beautifully! Really elegant plating for breakfast with the dramatic paint brush stroke of balsamic vinegar and artistic drizzle of the basil oil. There was an abundance of freshly chopped tomato, crumbed fetta and a lovely looking egg balanced on top. Along with a few snow pea shoots to add some extra green to the plate. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in! Naturally the first important thing to do was to slice into the egg. I did and took pause to appreciate the decadent river of golden yolk that cascaded over the tomato salsa. Yum!!! I really enjoyed this dish. The balsamic and basil oil were wonderful additions that added some real punchy flavour to this dish with a mild tang from the sweet vinegar and the herby infusion from the bright green basil oil. The egg had been poached perfectly and egg on top of bruschetta just goes so well! The bread had been lightly toasted and added a welcome crunch to complete the dish. Good times at the George with this delicio

After the deliciousness of our first mouthful, we were eager to give the other amazing sounding courses a go. From where I was sitting I could see the chef putting the finishing touches on all the meals… looked like intricate work.

The pork belly was delicious, it wasn’t a huge dish but it was exactly what I felt like.

Tasty. Great venue for an enjoyable time by all. The mains stood out for me but the entree doesn’t really involve much preparation and the dessert was serviceable without being spectacular.

The George is stylish to the hilt. The fittings and decor are impeccably put together but without a hint of pretentiousness. They’ve even managed to work the old Greco-Roman-style concrete facade that used to be on the outside of London House into their l

In the CBD, there are a range of pubs that cater to city workers, city-goers, as well as being a good casual place for people to catch up that is central. The George is one of those places, but to say it's just a pub is a gross understatement. When you en

The table service, cloth napkins and loose leaf tea - it's all gilding, lavish, pompous and special . Unlike a special occasion, you don't need an excuse for high tea, which is what I love about it.
