Review The Botanical Cafe - Perth

Food is average and a little pricey but understandable because of the location. Cofee was okay. Staff were nice but be prelared to wait a bit longer for your food during busy periods. I still recommend this place fr the entire experience of dining at such a beautiful location

Limited view of the city, excellent location but that where it ends. We ordered ice coffee with no cream; end up with cream. The chicken salad was plain. However the chips were perfectly cooked.

A masterclass in how to not make quality coffee. Bulk milk jugs overflowing from excessive steaming, caked on dry milk on the steam wand, group handles or jugs not cleaned between use. Given this, coffee was as expected - terrible. Sweet snack was worse. Hard, cold (possibly still frozen), dry croissant. Staff offered to “warm up” which was a burst in the microwave making it oily, sloppy and still hard and dry in parts. Clearly this place capitalises on its monopoly status as the only cafe in the park by offering terrible food and coffee with sloppy service. Bring your own food and, please Council, bring in some competition!

A pleasant place to meet. Central CBD, but with attractive scenery and views of the Swan River to South Perth (with the relaxing pleasure of Kings Park). Choice of alfresco or dine-in. Plenty of seating, convenient parking at rear, good strong coffee. Delicious sausage roll (one of the best I have ever tasted) perfect fries - great coffee and a refreshing freshly squeezed water melon and apple juice. Excellent service. Polite and patient staff. Tables cleaned continually too.

Lovely location and friendly service, spoilt by average expensive food. We ordered two chicken parmys and two drinks plus 1 water for $69!!! for lunch. The chicken was small and tasted fishy!!! the chips where excellent, the slaw was not even a slaw, just cabbage, some beans and alot of mayonnaise, and didn't seem fresh (see pic). Really disappointed but who knows if they read reviews, as one from a month ago suggested that the place be cleaned of cobwebs and it wasn't very clean at all.. Please improve your standards here, otherwise you waste a great opportunity to make a great name for yourself!!!

Beautiful scenery, views and atmosphere. You are defiantly coming for the view…. the food is average and expensive. The barista seemed to be under a lot of pressure… could use some extra help during peak times with over 30min wait for coffee. Bustling atmosphere on the weekends. I recommend getting a takeaway drink and going for a walk through kings park.

Someone told me the coffee here is good. I stopped by to try it. The long Macchiato was a bit smoother and the taste was alright. They used Gravity coffee beans. The beans originate from various countries as labelled: Brazil, India, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras and Papua New Guinea. What impressed me the most was the unique decoration of the indoor seating area. This morning the Kings Park temperature was about 15 Deg C. This cafe has a lot of heaters to generate warm air for the seating area. I like this beautiful cafe. Certainly another good cafe for gatherings. Cheers! (2021-08)

3rd experience @ this place today and it was lovely. We was the 1st there @ 7am and the coffee’s were beautiful and the poached eggs and BLT was delicious. The place is better when it’s quiet that’s forsure

Visit after covid-19. They have special take away menu - but it took longer to deliver even only 1 other customer ordering food. <br/><br/>Please watch your hygiene procedure. Other staff came in to the behind the counter with hanging earpods in front of body wouldn't help. <br/><br/>It long way to go. We could support business if they support what they should be.

Mediocre at best. Bacon was not cooked long enough and eggs were cooked too long. Toast was not even toasted! I guess they dont have to try as its the view and location you are paying for. Totally aimed at tourists and I suspect the cook was someone either fresh out of school or a backpacker. We won't be back.

Glad to see the 2.6 star review - although a bit high I think.<br/>Lucky this place has a view, because the service and the prices are terrible.<br/><br/>The prices are some of the highest in Perth. There was a 20 minute wait on coffee, and every order the girl had to go out and hunt for spare table numbers. Also, they ran out of Mugs, so had to serve the coffee in (non-biodegradable) take-away cups. You'd think with the price of the food they could afford enough staff/machines to make enough coffee for their clients, as well as cups and table numbers! It was fairly full, but not completely full.<br/><br/>Ordered two corn fritters with eggs, and asked for one without eggs. Checked the price when I sat down and they'd charged the full (expensive) price for both! Went up to see if it was an error, but no. Apparently "it's a set price, and the chefs have a quota" (whatever that means). And they didn't bother to let me know at the checkout. But they can sell an additional egg for $3 ok. Apparently that's not part of the 'quota'. I don't know of ANY other cafe I've been to in Perth that has this attitude.<br/><br/>I guess they're lucky they have a monopoly up at King's Park, because they'd never survive down on the streets with the good cafes!

After walking around KingsPark on Saturday morning, we came here for brunch n coffee stop. We ordered pancake, muesli and scone. Pancake was great with beautiful presentation, Muesli also taste great again with lovely presentation and scone was good.
Food Glorious Food
imple menu and lots to choose from<br/>From the display. Generous portions <br/>Fish and chips. Fantastically cooked fish, too much chips (I know I’m making a negative comment here) but sometimes too much chips isn’t a good thing <br/>Pea and prosciutto arancini with Sugo. I ordered with salad, but it came with chips. I completely forgot until after I touched the chips. So I didn’t want to send it back. Arancini was delicious! Not something I’d expect from a tourist attraction cafe/restaurant. <br/>Price is fair and affordable

Always busy and for good reason. Right in the commercial spot in the lovely Kings Park, this is not a place for a quick feed. You will wait to order and you will wait to get your food, but it will be worth it. I went with two vegan friends and there were zero complaints there too. <br/>Altogether we had mostly delicious carbs: the dips and bread, the deconstructed green salad, avocado toast, pumpkin ricotta ravioli (me!), wedges, great coffee and fresh juices.

After strolling around the park, we came here and ordered:<br/>Eggs benedict;<br/>Warm banana bread;<br/>Flat white;<br/>Matcha latte.<br/><br/>It was great enough. Loved the ambience. Oh, and matcha latte was good!

the iced coffee wasn't great, it was quite watery. really enjoyed the bacon and egg roll. love anything that has a good chutney in it. expensive but amazing view and catered for our large group well.

Location, location, location and location again - how could you not give this café a half-decent rating given the views across the gardens and the cityscape. The service is not too bad, the coffee reasonable, and the breakfast dishes, while nothing outstanding in quality, are quite ok and fairly priced. When you package in the spectacular views by day and night, this is a café you can go back to again with some confidence, whether you are a tourist or a local.
Renato
The coffee was excellent and the service friendly. We didn’t try the food but it looked good and the standard fare for a place which largely caters to tourists.
Greg
Has potential but did not hit the mark!!<br/>Ordered the pork belly...was dry in parts and tough in others, wine glass had lip stains on it, external ice cream van/fridge not very nice and melted. The best thing about the place was the communal water and ice dispensary as it was a hot day. Waiters were pleasant and friendly . Overall if it didn’t have the location and views this restaurant would not be in business...sorry but true :(

Went for breakfast this morning and wished we hadn’t!! Ordered scrambled eggs with a side of avocado. When the breakfast arrived it nearly slid off my plate from the amount of water oozing out of the wilted spinach. Dreadful !!! Consequently the toast was wet , so were the eggs. Had to use a napkin to try and get the liquid off the plate. Won’t be going back there. The view is the only thing worth going here for.

We went to this cafe on a Monday and it was really packed. We ordered gnocchi, miso salmon salad and pork pie. Everything was ok but not great. The salmon tasted good but the salad was way too salty. Gnocchi tasted a bit bland but the prawns were quite fresh. The pork pie was the best out of the three dishes we ordered. I don't think we would come back to this cafe again.
Lola
Visited this cafe today and it was very busy. I ordered a large mocha and a toasted chicken, avo and cheese toastie. It was a long wait for both and they gave me the smaller coffee size by mistake however the mocha was very good and nice and hot. The toasted sandwich was however not great. The bread was nice but it lacked flavor and wasn't worth the wait. The cakes looked amazing and may try one if I go back.
Brad TL
Over priced food which was dry and tasteless. The positive was the view and prompt service. A shame as I did enjoy the food here about a year ago, but not on this visit.

This coffee shop is located in the Botanical garden West of Perth ,australia.<br/><br/>Location is really nice,it is a perfect place to come alone or with friends just to relax, enjoy the quiet atmosphere and feast your eyes with the beautiful land scape and the green trees around u.<br/><br/>Interior design has a small touch of the botanic garden.<br/><br/>In a sunny day it get busy and you might wait for a solid 10 minutes.<br/><br/>I never regret visiting this place.<br/><br/>IT IS DIFFERENT.
Foodie Lover
Lovely spot in Kings Park. I enjoyed a mocha frappe while sitting outside overlooking the city. Meals are quite expensive, averaging $14-$16 for meals like lasagne and chips or salad. Cakes and slices looked pretty nice but again on the pricey side at $8 for pretty small portions.

Great spot, good service but let down by coffee and food.....<br/>Soy latte terrible/burnt<br/>Scones with jam and cream - jam in packets and cream old and horrible. Waste of money
Merwe Van Niekerk
Really great place. Friendly staff, good food. Good variety of options on the menu. The drinks wasn't the best, but not to bad. I had the Turkish bread with hummus and tzatziki. Was lovely and fresh. Spectacular view
Gina
Good timely service, great location. Mocca Frappe doesn't have a rich flavour cream already starting melting when got it. Fan could be spinning faster / aircon strong on such a hot day.
Dinerdude
Came here for lunch with a mob of 12, & it was a delight. Was the perfect venue for our group, order @ pay for your own, & the food didn't disappoint - all meals were generous servings, tasty, and served in a timely manner. Only the meat & veg skewer was a let-down, but the barramundi was substantial & delicious.<br/>Recommended.

After a long bike ride, this was just the place to enjoy the views of Perth city. The food is slightly expensive ($13 for a pork and fennel sausage roll!), but does offer a few cheaper options like the $12 eggs on toast. The food was decent but what stood out was the beautiful presentation of the banana bread ($13)- definitively worth getting! Service was fairly efficient, although we felt slightly forgotten at times with no direction to menus or water etc. However, a beautiful location.

Just visited today! 27/12/16<br/>Had the lowest of expectations and was still disappointed. <br/>Ordered a pot of peppermint tea. <br/>Lengthy waiting time!<br/>Floors are a disgrace, covered in food scraps.<br/>Tables- covered in previous customers leftovers.<br/>Waitstaff looking disinterested and tired.<br/>Took a seat and waited for table to be cleared and cleaned after placing order. Didn't happen, so we moved the stuff ourselves. Table needed to be cleaned, but didn't happen, which I'm glad about because the waiters cleaning cloth was deplorable. Hygiene doesn't seem to be a priority. <br/>Nor customer service. <br/>Let's discuss the cup and teapot. <br/>1 cup was clean apart from some strange debris which I blew out. The other cup hadn't done too well in the last cycle of dishwashing. Teapot covered in greasy fingerprints and God knows what else. Had not been cleaned for long time. Not just stains but more like scunge. <br/>Dogs seem to be welcome at this cafe(2at 2 different tables) Great for pet owners. Not sure the health department will agree with this oversight.<br/>Great location. <br/>Can't help to feel ashamed that tourists from all over the world are flocking in and thinking this is the standard here in WA. <br/>Didn't drink tea- walked out.<br/>On a final note: lift your game management, this filthy mess is unacceptable. Defs won't be back. Will tell everyone to avoid like the plague. Don't fancy a dose of gastro.<br/>Ps: just took the time to read reviews for the last couple of years on this dive! Seems there's quite the pattern of lousy hospitality here.
Phillip Perry-Walden
Great for the view but disappointing today...ordered eggs over easy on toast with a side of crispy bacon and got rock hard eggs, thin dry bread and a twisted pile of bacon that was largely undercooked. Our other order came out nicely cooked but overall a bit of a let down.

Nice cafe with superb view of Perth City. Locate in center location of famous Kings Park, make it very enjoyable place to enjoy the city view. The food in here is fresh and have a decent range of choices include the meal and desert. Only came here for nice quick bite or breakfast.
Paul
Worst service , terrible food! One can clearly see they don't care as its all touristy based , people that is only coming here once !! That's so unaustralian!! Shame on you !!

Beautiful spot. Simple menu but I think that's a good thing. I had scrambled eggs on toast with bacon and my husband had the Botanical Stack which was chorizo, smoked salmon and eggs, which he RAVED about. Would recommend.
Cheryl Fletcher
Very enjoyable cafe, with excellent coffee and very good food, nicely decorated, prompt service, although a certain member of staff delivered my food and when asked a simple question, walked away while answering it which I thought was quite rude, other than that all good and yes, I will be back for sure.

If it's so not about the taste and health then it's a pretty good place specially with the view too much to resist the have to work on a few flavours and service I feel it's just not too prompt
LittleGirlBigFood
A good spot to take your visiting aunt or nana. Stock standard well made fare. Nothing surprising here and no new trends. You won't find any hipsters here. As i said, a great place to bring visiting relos

Gorgeous! Stunning views, lovely cafe and good food. It's not cheap, but I think it's fairly priced considering it was fresh, the service was decent and the location is stunning. Worth stopping in for lunch after exploring King's Park.
Time To Eat
We stopped in for coffee, had to wait for what seemed to be ages.<br/>When the coffees arrived they were in takeaway cups instead of mugs.<br/>Should have just ordered takeaways would have been faster.<br/>Coffee flavour was average.<br/>Kings park can do better, look for a better spot next time
DianaW
A great place to sit & admire the view after doing that Kakoda track & all the other beautiful walks up there. The food is priced according to the view however! It is basic food, nothing gourmet, but as there is nowhere else close on a hot day a good place to nab a cold drink- forget the coffee was rather insipid to me
Kbel
Incredibly rude girl serving at the counter-the young Caucasian girl with long light brown hair. No acknowledgements of any kind, no greeting or thank you, she didn't even look me in the eye once, and was very rude when I asked for water, having not been there before. I'd avoid this place just on the off chance of running into her again. The coffee was also lukewarm yet somehow burnt.

Needed a drink at 3:30pm on a Friday and wasn't sure we could get one at the cafes in Kings Park and was pleasantly surprised to find this one fully licenced and ready to serve us! Cold and refreshing with a beautiful outlook on a Friday afternoon, and busy, just what we needed!

You are paying for the location when eating at Botanical. Outdoor tables catch the panoramic view of Perth, perfect. But to my mind the food and coffee don't quite match the view. My coffee was average, a little burnt. The eggs benedict came with well poached eggs, but the Hollandaise sauce lacked the tang that makes your taste buds dance.

Went for brunch today. Very crowded on a fine Saturday, but snagged a table with a view. Food was lovely, but the service? The young man taking our order was brusque to the point of total rudeness. He just about threw my partner's cake at me and kept saying loudly "is that all?", as if he couldn't wait to be rid of me. I know he was busy, but that's his job to be at least pleasant.<br/>Second gripe: why serve "upsize" coffee in takeaway containers? Can't afford mugs? Not good enough for a venue like this.<br/>

On one of our visits here, we walked up the hill to Kings Park for breakfast on one of the coldest mornings during our stay in Perth. It was freezing, but we persisted with an outside table to make the most of the spectacular view and surroundings. The coffee was delicious and warm and the food was hearty and priced reasonably. On another day we walked up here for an afternoon beer with a view. It didn't disappoint.

Have had breakfast here in the past  with various levels of satisfaction. Seriously, if this cafe did not have the view it would be bust ! Breakfast at best could be described as average with backpacker service well below par. Today I ordered 2 flat whites and six slices of toast between my partner and I. $4.50 for each flat white coffee and $16 for 6 slices of toast. Are you serious ? We are not at Rottnest ! Last time for me unfortunately as I will now go to the new Elizabeth Key destination. Over priced and under delivered at a high cost.

Went on a busy Saturday morning and didn't go well. Staff were all young, not well trained and no one senior or experienced seemed to be there. Placing the order was a huge drama, food came at different times, some of it stone cold, some of the orders wrong and tables not being cleaned. Food, apart from being cold, was poor to OK certainly lacking in freshness. Staff  wanted to help but were unsure what to do. Management need a huge kick up the backside, great location, plenty of patronage, good facilities, all being wasted.Worst aspect was the gluten free "toast".  It was frozen bread, over-defrosted in a microwave and put straight on the plate. It was warm, rock hard, never seen a toaster and inedible.

Experienced the worst breakfast so far in Perth. Ordered a pot of tea and baked beans. Tea came out first and I let it sit there for 10 minutes to soak. When I poured it it was like water. No colour hardly at all.  I checked the basket in the pot and there where about 4 tea leaves. I took the pot back to the counter and they fixed it straight away. The menu says the baked beans comes with a "baked egg" but it arrived with a poached egg. Poached egg was cooked good and had a running yolk but the beans were tastless. They were like tinned mixed beans mixed with a jar of salsa. No seasoning. I added salt and pepper and mustard to try and give the dish flavour but it was not pleasant.  The Turkish bread was toasted but had no butter on them so the 2 pieces were as hard as rocks. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend.

Not all that bad. Not fine dining for sure. Normally touristy places suck. But really, we were pleasantly surprised at our food quality. Had fish and chips. Chips the freshest and crispiest I've had for a long time. Pizza was really good to. For a spot with a relaxed atmosphere and great views PLUS the dreaded tourist patrons. ..I think it well worth it. <br/>How to see it climb out of the low ratings.

Ripped off. Order 2 coffee's in mugs, only to be served in Paper cups. Then told sorry no mugs.<br/>Ordered 2 scrambled eggs on Turkish bread($14 Each) One with extra bacon ($3.5) the other with Extra guacamole ((4.5)<br/>2 little bits of Bacon (thought I was at fine dining)<br/>Guacamole was sliced Avocado<br/>Will not be returning, very disappointed and felt ripped off

Sunday Breakfast. 3 people<br/>1st person ordered Greek yoghurt + fruit - arrived 20 mins before other meals.<br/><br/>2nd person - ordered poached eggs on Turkish bread - After 20 mins - two tiny eggs sitting on one piece of dry Turkisk bread with a piece of butter on side and a couple of sprigs of water cress - (? expected to take eggs off - butter bread and put eggs back on) - Presentation 3/10 - taste 1/10.<br/><br/>3rd person - ordered Botanical breakfast - bacon overcooked - tasted as if it was petrified - Bratwurst not fully cooked <br/><br/>Won't be back.

Worst place for breakfast. AVOID!!!. We went there for breakfast once while on holiday in Perth. The service is terrible. Staff not friendly. Below average food. We waited more than 30mins for the coffee to arrive to the table. very noisy place. Not a pleasant experience.

It all comes together. Had a gorgeous Sunday lunch with the girls here. Amazing view and staff took great care of us. We will be back!<br/><br/><br/>-----11 Mar, 2015-----<br/><br/>It all comes together. Had a fantastic Sunday lunch with a bunch of girls. Couldn't get better views and staff took excellent care of us. We will be back soon!

Deserves its low rating. Very disappointing experience. Came for coffee and cake but had to ask three times for our order to be completed as it came out in dribs and drabs. Service was dismissive and patronising. <br/>Coffee and cake however was very nice but was bittered by such poor service from two of the three people who served us.

Disappointing. I have been at the Botanical Cafe for breakfast three times over the last five years and then again this morning for what I decided the last time. iIt already starts with the menu card: so grubby you want to reach for the hand sanitizer. Had poached eggs on a very stale piece of bread decorated with limp rocket leaves. Service okay but the time between ordering and bringing out the food seemed to be unjustifiably long for an almost empty café. Why can't they get their act together and raise the standard up to the beautiful location. A spectacular view should in no way mean below standard food. My advice: Walk the extra 3 km and go to the Zamia - it never disappoints!
Sara
We ordered salad and chips, how hard is that? It took forever to bring it for us, and the food wasn't good at all.
Equityadvocate
Botanical flop. Went to this Cafe on Thursday morning with my partner for breakfast, and decided to order the Botanical Big Breakfast, and a couple of coffees. The coffee came out quickly. the flat white looked good with a thick crema and nice blend. However the long black was pretty ordinary for some reason. I feel the cups were a little small and gave the impression of poor value.<br/><br/>Soon,the breakfasts arrived. The poached eggs were over done, without the yolk oozing out as you cut into it. They were like hard boiled eggs without the solid white! The potato hash was nothing like it. Yes, it may be something the chef made in the kitchen, but certainly not hash. It was more like a mash, flattened, pan fried....but still mushy.<br/><br/>Bratwurst was nice, so we're the bacon. How could one go wrong with these anyway? The turkish bread they claimed was not really!! Anyway, it was cold, not even toasted or pan seared, no butter on it, nothing! It was cold, dry, chewy, if not, stale. The free Vegemite, and jam and the western star butter was the saving grace.<br/><br/>The small amount of salad, or green garnish on the plate was the worst. The rocket was dehydrated and stale, yet the chef or kitchen hand who decided to out it on the plate is either blind or lack interest and pride in his profession. He should be sacked!!<br/><br/>I pity the owner and chef who continue to hand out such dismal meals, reading the amount of negative reviews. The rent may cost a lot, but please don't scrimp on the quality. Give your customers what they are entitled to! Fresh food. Good quality. Great service.<br/><br/>kings Park is a Perth attraction and an icon, so please don't let this cafe be the bane of the Park.
F4fitfunfoodfly
Park Cafe for weary walkers. Warm afternoon. Bicycle to King's Park. Cafe at the top of hill. Free ice and filtered water. Heaven!!<br/> Try ordering the uncomplicated items not on the menu. Strawberry tart with a green boost juice to get the carbs into the system. $7 for the tart and $6.5 for the juice. Sausage roll for $12. Lovely warm and giant sausage in it with herbs and thyme. <br/> Meat pie with chunks of beef and nice juicy filling. $12 and not on the menu. Have to order from counter. Pizza for $22. Crunchy and thick crust. Lots of olives but not alot of meat. Anyhow fills the muscles with carbs for the ride home. There had been some complaints about quality of the food on urbanspoon. However, there is plenty of food to order that is not on the menu like the pie and sausage roll. These were pricey but they tasted good after the long bike ride. They probably pay a premium price for being located at such a wonderful venue. Order wisely and don't expect gourmet style dining.

CH-CH-CHANGES. I'm a regular of this cafe and they have undergone slight renovations and upgraded most kitchen and coffee equipment. Menu has changed and also management! Staff are friendly and food had improved dramatically.
Yummymummy
Very underwhelmed. Barramundi, salad and processed chips. <br/>The fish was under cooked, the chips were not made here but in some factory and the salad was boring. Overpriced crap! If you want home cooked fish and chips find a Brit to cook them for you!!!!
LG
Terrible, avoid. Took visitors from Hong Kong for a late lunch and was completely embarrassed by the quality of the food, the service and the extreme prices. Fish burger was over cooked & bun dry, 'roast of the day' seemed to be a pan fried steak which was very tough & cost $28, there were no steak knives at all in the establishment. The vegetarian quiche was dry and only partially heated through. All in all I would avoid this place. I will concede that when my mother complained about her meal, they did reimburse her.
Jason Vellender
Burnt and badly coffee. Lazy breakfast presentation.

Very happy. Enjoyed a lovely lunch here about a month ago: excellent lamb ragout pie and delicious hazelnut and apple cake; efficient friendly service too. Returned for a breakfast this Monday and very impressed with menu: our choices - pulled beef brisket & poached eggs; poached eggs and avocado with hollandaise. Service excellent again.

Radical Botanical!!. Had a late brekkie, everything was great and very quick service even though very busy because of the Kings Park Festival. We had an Eggs Benedict, a veggie Eggs Benedict (avocado instead of ham) and the Banana Bread with berries and mascarpone (mmmmmmmmm.....). Coffee was good, not outstanding but better than average. <br/><br/>Will go back for lunch soon.

Lovely staff. The girl that served us was an absolute treat, think her name was Amelia, Great help with deciding what to get and also helped with directions. And all with a smile! great cafe with great view and GREAT staff (especially Amelia)

Botanical Cafe, King's Park. First and last visit to this cafe! $4.50 coffees, takeaway cups were half coffee, half foam and lukewarm.

Conforms to the'we have a view and don't care' Rule. I am suspicious of cafes/restaurants with a stunning view - they often seem to think they don't have to bother with the basics - like decent food or good service. Cafes like this one reinforces that stereotype.<br/>Here's a tip Botanical - if you don't have the special preserve that goes with the banana bread - get it off the menu. If you don't have real sourdough bread - get it off the menu. Do they really get their bread from Loafers? - (I am tempted to check) - but if you don't GET IT OFF THE MENU!<br/>At least then people will know what they are getting for their money.<br/>Staff seemed to have improved slightly from the disinterested mob I have previously experienced.<br/>I give this place a go every six months or so to see if they have lifted their game - but so far so bad. Might have to write it off completely. Too sad - such a great view - picnic time perhaps.
Keropos55
Very disappointing. Although the view is great and the wait staff are good you definitely don't get what you pay for in terms of food. <br/>The menu states some meals are served with sour dough bread. Not only is the bread not sour dough it is not even a full slice of bread. You get a quarter of a piece of some sort of ciabatta . Ours had the small amount of eggs plonked on top and that was it. If you don't have sour dough don't put it on the menu!<br/>We have been coming to this café for a couple of years now and it has definitely gone down hill. Even the poor waitress was embarrassed.
Floyd Falconi
Ordered 4 bacon & egg rolls, all stake bread and bacon only just cooked!<br/>Do Jacobs in the morning and have always come here after!<br/>Something changed and that was really BAD.

Avoid.. Staff absolutly miserable at the counter. The big breakfast I ordered was just terrible. The egg was completely tastless. The toast was cold. The sausages were ok. They give you this powdered potatoe stuff which is just horrible. I had to drown the whole meal with tomato ketchup just to finish it. Small amount of food for the price. Very dissapointed. Very expensive for what you get. Manager needs to change the chef and sort the general attitude of his counter staff. <br/>3/10.
Sally Hunter
Awful. Disinterested staff. Cold coffee burnt fish burger, stale bead, no serviettes, overly salty kofta and grainy hommus. Don't go

Lame Lame Lame. $21.00 for one breakfast dish, not including coffee which comes in one size or a paper cup. Staff are brain dead.<br/><br/>Avoid at all cost, or just go to the take away next door at least it is cheaper
Susan Florance
ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!. How is it possible that a cafe can get it SO wrong? Went there today to celebrate my birthday - just as well the company and the view were amazing because the food is very average for the price and the service is NON EXISTENT. The staff don't speak enough English to even 'sort of' get by - "pecan pie - that's the type of tea right?"<br/>The mains came out in a staggered manner (one 10 minutes after the other and not cooked through - it's a health hazard to serve under cooked mince but that kofta was red raw inside). Dessert - staggered and the tea (served in a dirty teapot) was 15 minutes after that.<br/>The only reason they survive is because in the main - the clientele are a passing trade and won't come back. What a total embarrassment to Perth!
Mary T-soon
Worst experience I've had in a long time. 1- Coffee cups were still dirty from previous patrons (only positive was coffee tasted nice) 2- ordered the roast pumpkin, quinoa, feta and rocket salad and added chicken for an extra $6, sounds yum yes? No. Chicken was barley there, cold, rubbery and very dry. 3-The salad also had beet root which if stated in description I would not have ordered 4- Partners brioche was ineadibly dry and tasteless. Being a coeliac I always look for 'gluten free friendly' Having 2 items on your entire menu that are 'gf' don't cut it sorry. Spoke to the manager on duty who offered different meals but I just wanted my money back and to leave. After dirty cups and two terrible dishes, no sorry, I don't want to try anything else! The manager was very nice and handled our comments well. Such a shame as it's in such a beautiful spot!

HATE THE PLACE. THE VIEW IS GOOD and that is where it ends.<br/>I had just seen a Surgeon and am having Surgery next week.<br/>Felt like a NICE SANDWICH, you know two slices of bread with some meat filling, Toasted or not.<br/>They had fancy crap sandwiches, NO HAM that we could see and we asked NO HAM,<br/>Nothing I fancied nor did my Daughter, we were both hungry so ordered something, <br/>NEVER AGAIN,<br/>And as for Service, errrrr WHAT SERVICE.<br/>Oh and on a lovely day, Thursday the 5th of June they had the HEATERS ON.<br/>Looked at the menu later nothing with Ham MENTIONED, I do wonder why,.<br/>Hell will freeze over before I go there again.<br/>So if you like the view TAKE A PICNIC.

Quick and good. Read lots of bad reviews but used twice over long weekend - found food and drinks to be good. Can't complain about anything - will go back.

Finding a cosy café that serves lunch anytime after 11.30, without telling you that the kitchen is closed at 2 o'clock, in the beautiful Kings Park, is to me already enough to give it a good rate!Apart from that, I find it hard to understand all the negative reviews. The place is nice and I've eaten there twice and liked it both times. You can tell that there's a Mediterranean influence in the menu which I appreciate a lot. Today I tried the haloumi salad, a bit more dressing would have been nice, but overall I quite liked it as it was considering that grilled haloumi is quite savoury and very well contrasting with the sweetness of the roast pumpkin . My partner had the Ceasar salad and that came with heaps of sauce, for the sauce lovers. I also adore their Turkish bread with hummus, and I've found the service good both times. I also appreciate the menu having a few vegetarian options and prices more than affordable. Will definitely go back.

Very disappointing. I've been here a few times now hoping that my previous experiences were just 'one offs'. Unfortunately they weren't and they're getting worse. Lukewarm coffees (almost cold.!). Long waits. Terrible service.

Very disappointed. Haloumi .... Very disappointed.<br/>Haloumi salad was a slab on rocket leaves for $18. Great view, average food, terrible service.<br/>In what day and age is it acceptable to order an ice coffee, not have it delivered with your meals and finally dumped 10 minutes after you finish?<br/>Really? A blemish on Perth

Botanical cafe. What a horrible experience and rude disinterested staff. I am a coeliac and the cafe is touted as gluten friendly. NOT SO. My friend ( who was in her King's Park volunteer uniform) ordered the satay ( advertised as gf) for me. She questioned the manager and then asked the chef whether it was gf. The chef said NO as the soy sauce is not gf. My friend told the manager that I could end up in hospital if I ate non gf food. So I ordered the lamb kofta ( also advertised as gf). <br/><br/>The dish consisted of I skewer of lamb kofta a smear of labneh and some cabbage with a huge ploughman's chunk of bread. Not a lot for $21. I had a couple of bites of the bread and as it was so nice I stopped and said to my friend that the bread was NOT GF. On asking the manager he said NO that it was NOT GF. I spoke to him when he walked by and he just shrugged his shoulders.<br/><br/>I have not chosen to be coeliac . It is a medical condition. I now have a distended sore stomach and I am in pain. I have already vomited. My body is trying to expel the food. I am now waiting for the diahorreah to start.<br/><br/>International visitors use this cafe and their English is not always 100%. Heaven help them if they take the menu at it's word and expect the food to be gluten free.<br/><br/>Thank goodness I don't have anaphylaxis. New management and better staff required.

On a Sunday morning, the queue took 25 minutes to get through (and I'd say it was only a medium sized queue of about 10 people). We then waited 25minutes for our drinks, and another 10 minutes on top of that for our food. And sadly, when the food arrived it proved not at all worthy of waiting for. I ordered the bacon and egg roll which was tiny, and frankly I've had better at McDonalds. I would expect more for nearly $20. Would not recommend.

Extremely bad service and bland food!. My friend and I did a session at Jacobs ladder and decided to come here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Service was extremely bad as we waited at the counter for over 10 minutes to get served. We were the only people waiting and if I didn't say, "Excuse me" no one would have served us. I ordered the 'special' which was the chicken and prosciutto salad. It was a generous size but there was no salad dressing (it was probably a couple of drops of olive oil!). My friend ordered the beef burger which was extremely simple with just lettuce, beetroot, tomato and no sauce at all (Grill'd is way better and cheaper!) Considering the price we paid was not worth it at all especially the horrendous service! <br/>-From two uni students who wants decent food<br/>ps- What a shame Botanical Cafe is in a gorgeous location but has poor service and below decent food! :(

Not the best. We ordered coffees & 2 biscuits, the coffees were lukewarm & the biscuits did not arrive, when my sister went to the counter to say the biscuits hadn't arrived she was told to wait for them, we finished our coffees and I had to go to the counter & wait another 4 minutes for a no biscuit refund. The biscuits do not need warming up or anything! Love the location though.

Stop! Do not approach the counter! Very rude girl just took order for coffees, and know after reading all the other reviews I'm concerned about what we are about to receive. I wonder how this place is so busy, probably poor tourists like us that don't know any better!

Ordinary. Food does not live up to the prices charged or the menu description (ingredients missing). Coffee slightly burnt and slightly cold. Pizza was tasty but a little fatty. Burger was too much bread and not enough filling. Deluxe vista but classic case of captive audience with no other options. Take a packed lunch and sit on the grass in the shade.

Best Fish & Chips in Perth. Two nights ago, my husband, daughter & I went to Kings Park for tea to wait out the traffic congestion. Up from the country, we had only been to Zamia's Cafe before and so the Balcony Cafe was a new experience for us. My husband checked out their blackboard specials and reported the prices quite reasonable. I ordered the Golden Snapper, Salad & Chips special as our daughter is dairy free and we decided to share a plate between the three of us rather than waste a piece of fish as she often doesn't eat much of the fish. We received a very generous piece of fish which was neither battered or crumbed (much to my relief). It was incredibly moist and tasty - the flavours were great and with the squeezed lemon juice on top - really lovely. We were very impressed and thrilled that our daughter ate more of the fish than the chips. And then she asked for more. So we ordered another plate (the fish this time was not as large - but that was quite okay). We thanked the chef as it was so nice to have such great fish and chips for a very reasonable price and to have our daughter eat so much fish in one sitting. Will definitely go back again.

Not good. The hollondaise sauce on the eggs Benedict was watery and tasteless and the wilted spinach very bitter. This was served on half a slice of soggy Turkish bread. The complete breakfast was served with what appeared to be last nights mashed potato. At least the poached eggs seemed to be cooked well. Aside from the raw whites towards the centre. A 15% surcharge was added for the privilege of being able to dine here on a bank holiday. The views are spectacular and the service was reasonably prompt and polite. However very poor quality food for the price.

Dinner should be removed from their opening times. My boyfriend and I were their for finned last night. It had only just turned 7pm and chairs were being put up on tables around us. There were still plenty of customers still coming in. It was a very uncomfortable feeling eTing your dinner with chairs up all around you.

Had a nice lunch today. Good service but just above average food. Very hot day with lovely breeze and great few from the outside of the cafe.

Terrible breakfast!!! Waited a very long time for our meal and was very disappointed!! Won't be back!

Myself and my boyfriend went here today for lunch. It was extremely poor. My boyfriend had chicken Caesar salad. He asked for no dressing and was glad he did-as he could see that the lettuce was disgusting-practically gone off. The bacon was terrible and very much undercooked. We wouldn't have known this if the dressing was on the salad as they douse it in the dressing-obviously to cover up the very poor state of the food they serve. A few pieces of cheap rubbery chicken but nothing to merit the $23 price tag. Basically he got a plate of gone-off lettuce with a very tiny amount of undercooked bacon and rubber chicken. I had the quinoa salad which was ok but not worth the price tag. We went straight from here to a nearby cafe in west perth for another lunch as we were still hungry. We were so annoyed and disappointed by our experience here. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Low Level Food. Sat down to look at very dirty menus - should have taken that as a sign. Sparkling wine with no name on menu tasted like cheap fruity punch. Food arrived after approx. 30 minutes. Served on metal and wooden trays with a piece of paper under the pulled pork burgers and fish and chips. Instantly wondered when the trays had last been washed and how convenient for the staff not to deal with plates. The chips are in mini fryer baskets - why? I wondered, to save on washing up and/or to keep the chip portions small? It looked tacky, cheap and dirty. The burger was ordered with the extra $2 grilled onions - not grilled but two raw rings of onion......... much more to criticise here. Don't go there, take a picnic to enjoy in the beautiful park. If you must dine there then ask exactly what is the wine and ask for food to be served on a plate and no mini deep fryer basket, thank you. Also, ask about portion size and do complain if it's awful. A scrappy, tacky place that puts a tarnish on a visit to King's Park.

I don't normally leave food (especially at the price of this cafe!) but this food was awful!!! Somehow, they screwed up cooking fries (how???), soggy & cold, the vegetable panini had 1 slice of capsicum, 1 zucchini looking slimy thing and NOTHING else. No sauce or flavour and it cost about $15. Coffee nothing special and service took ages.
Donna
Terrible service, food was awful, forgot our coffee, crowd were annoying

Had lunch here today for the first time. The service was very slow and portions not overly big for the cost. However the food was well cooked and well presented. Overall an average experience and don't think I would rush back.

Has everything going for it, location, location, location but it misses the mark. Getting a table when busy is a lottery. No mugs for coffee, under cooked eggs on just one piece of toast and no butter. However, the staff are delightful and the coffee is just ok.

Nothing better than having a glass of wine and looking out the city view, friendly service and nice food, this place made my day!

Kid friendly. Lovely place, with wonderful views of the city. <br/>The service was fantastic, there was a sign saying there was a 20min wait, though our order was out within 10mins. The waiter was very polite and even gave my daughters some colouring in packs. The food was good, and they serve really good coffee, though it was a little over priced. Nice place to go for a girly lunch and have a glass of wine.

Went in for lunch over the weekend And the service we received from who we believed was the manager was terrible even for Perth he seemed uninterested and patronising and snarled when we simply asked for the blinds to be put down because it was freezing, he did not do it. You would think a beautiful place like this would have a manager that cared about his customers. Positive- great coffee !

Im not usually fussy but this place is just not worth the price. The service is horrible the give 0 effort. The food took long and there was no presentation to it and it tasted below average. I think the fact they are placed im kings park make them careless about the restaurant itself.

Love the gluten free options! Very healthy :)

Great view, great service, tasty sandwiches.

Easily the worst breakfast experience I've ever had. Service was terrible. It took over an hour and when it got to us the bread on our plate was stale and the bacon wasn't cooked. <br/>I don't know how it is possible to get such an easy meal so wrong. <br/>Stay away from this place, it's terrible.

Ohhhhhh deeeaaaarrrr....why can't this city get its you know what together?!? So so bad, from food to service. Used plates everywhere, crumbs all over seats. Shocker.

Horrible.... after cleaning our own table we went to order and our table was taken by a young couple as it was the only clean one in the shop. Once we had ordered our over priced coffee we were told there was a 25 minute wait. Having to clean another table we waited 25 minutes for a shot class of coffee a stale scone a crusty muffin and a vile hot chocolate. I recomend picking up your game if you wish to keep the busness coning

Chicken burger was amazing, and my latte was yummy. Great vibe. Will be back again.
