He's back!!!!!! After a bit of a hiatus where he went back to Japan, Shige is back and the cuisine is as good as ever. You know it's going to be good when Tetsuya wants traditional Japanese food he heads over to have a bit of Shige-San's culinary magic.
He's one of the best sashimi chefs around, up there with the guys from Sushi E in Sydney. Shige goes to the trouble of always getting the whole fish so that he can prepare it properly. I know a lot a 'Japanese' restaurants, especially those run by non-Japanese, which buy their sashimi pre-filleted...it's not the same.
So when you come, not 'if', in my opinion, make sure you order some sashimi or sushi so that you create a benchmark for all your Japanese culinary moments in the future.
Other great dishes: chawan mushi (savoury egg custard), made properly...none of that instant stuff, the soft shell crab is a must, as is the agedashi-dofu. Plus, his tempura is the way it should be, light, thin, crispy batter.
The new decor is pleasant and now that he's moved from South Perth to just opposite the Hyatt Hotel, it's convenient for lunch, plus there's heaps of parking.
Honestly, I can't recommend it any higher.
This place serves the freshest sashimi! I would say this is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in Perth. You feel like you step in to little Tokyo once you are inside the restaurants. The owners are friendly and welcoming. The grilled squid and matcha cheesecake are one of my favorites! Oh and don't forget the sake ;)
lovely lady at the counter gave suggestions and what to pick as I was clueless bad their daily specials in seafood with rice. was excellent and good meal on my first night in Perth after a long day with some sparkling wine in my hotel room as I took a take away

Very authentic Japanese food. Waiting time is reasonable. Had the catch of the day and was yummy. The deep fried miso egg plants and tofu were well cooked and delicious. Would come here again for sure.
Sushi was very nice and fresh. You definitely get what you pay for. Also ordered the tempura udon which was delicious. I would recommend coming here for the sushi but maybe not for the main course.
Went here for dinner after flying in from Sydney. Japanese operated, great service. I had miso, scallops and sushi. All great, very true Japanese flavours. Would definitely go back and either have the same or try other things
Thoroughly enjoyed the food snd service at this delightful restaurant. The sashimi was perfect - as fresh as could be! Pork cutlet was soft and soooo delicious. Beef and reef was also great. Highly recommended this restaurant. It's not a cheap eat but well worth the money spent!
Have been going to Shige for years then they reopened in east perth. Amazong service and delicious food. Never disappointed when I go there for dinner.
Love love love Shige. Best rice and miso, fish is always fresh, good options for drinks. Could be open on Sundays. Dinner on weekdays are great but book in advance, just in case.
Great fresh food and prompt friendly service. We popped in randomly on a Wednesday night for a casual meal. Everything was great! Very friendly and informative staff and fresh tasty food. Definitely pricey but worth it. Just don't expect a lavish place... It's neat and modern but very functional.

Very good ambience for family dinner or lunch, the sashimi plate is one of the best, very fresh and delicious.
I had the beef teriyaki which taste very good and my bf got a seafood platter, i forgot the name but surely it’s really delicious.

One of the best little Japanese restaurants in Perth! Food was absolutely superb! The Chef & staff very polite & helpful, even on a very busy Saturday night when we ordered takeaway dinner! We’ll be coming back again soon! ❤️ Too hungry to take photos 😉
My favorite sushi restaurant! I have eaten sushi in many countries and Shige is in a different class, the quality of food matches even the best London restaurants, and the fact it is a small family run business gives a more personal experience.
Perth is very lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber and it was a refreshing change to some of the other lower quality places I have tried in Perth.
The standout dishes for me are the sashimi platter which is amazingly fresh local produce hand selected by the chef (the squid and tuna are to die for) and the pork tonkatsu is absolutely delicious. This food goes amazingly well with a nice plum wine.
This place is my favorite restaurant and the family are very warm and welcoming every time we go. Highly recommended!!

Shige Restaurant is beautiful. Small joint run by a Japanese family with attentive service and charming chef. Chef Shige's sushi and sashimi platters is the holy grail, made by great skill honoring the ways of how it is done back in Japan. The carefully selected fish by itself or with the sushi rice results in the delicious dispersion of the combined flavours in the mouth. The menu is authentically varied and is built upon for a sharing experience or even for single diners. The selection of Agedashi, Chawanmushi and Seaweed Salad as a starter before moving onto the Sushi or Sashimi Platter along with the Tonkatsu Cutlet is a good guide of mine but Chef Shige and family are always there for the better recommendation that fits your appetite on the night. A purely authentic Japanese experience unlike any others in Perth.
What an amazing little find. Food delicious and atmosphere superb. Chef was amazing and personable. Loads of choices including sake and Japanese beers. Highly recommend this place. Definitely will return. 🤗
Price is little bit expensive but fresh and delicious food provided here😋
