Review Billy Lees Chinese Restaurant - Perth

Argenteus
It's not blow your socks off amazing, but it's good. Prices reasonable, serving sizes moderate to generous, can't fault the service either. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you want a dining experience instead of the food haul experience of little shanghai.

My hubby missed authentic simple fried rice. They fried well šŸ‘ For me, first time to try fried noodle with wet sauce, it was amazing. The scallop makes good flavour. The braised pork belly was disappointing šŸ˜ž. I guess it was like ran out since some part was really tender like braised pork belly, some part was chewy. It was like they topped up the lacking quantity straight away when cooking.
Clyde Jones
Good food at any time of day. Can't really go wrong here.
Jessica Thomas
Food is pretty good. Service is absolutely disgusting, if you ask for something they will just walk away and pretend you donā€™t here them. One of our dishes came out 45 minutes after the others, and we said donā€™t bother due to us finishing our other meals and they just walked off..

Iā€™ve been coming here on and off over the years. Always consistently good. My goto for a succulent Chinese meal!
Shane Trent
Food is fantastic and the service friendly. The staff were very accurate and helpful with taking our orders and coped really well with our large group even though they were already busy.

A friend was recommended to eat here, why I have no idea, menu was way to extensive. My noodle dish was part cooked part crunchy and tasteless. My friends dishes were no better, bland and seafood was minimal. Waste of money!!!!

Really bad. First time here as our usual next door was closed. Ordered 3 dishes - string bean w pork. Soggy, too much sauce, not salty enough. Mince pork w salted fish - way too salty, couldnā€™t taste the ginger. Presentation was kaka/sh!t. Lamb w ginger & shallot. Really Bad. Shouldā€™ve stayed in Kwinana and gone to the local Chinese shop for dinner. 2 stars for the reasonably priced beer, service was ok, forgot the rice but the tea was good. Never had Chinese food so bad in northbridge.
Hungry Koala
First timer in Perth. Landed in the early morning hours and this and a few other joints in trusty Chinatown were open. Does a range of original HK dishes here including razor clams and pipis. Too much msg.

Unfortunately this was a big let down, my friend had highly recommended this place as a great spot with tasty food a cheap pricing! we ordered the beef in black bean sauce with noodles, special friend rice and squid tentacles. unfortunately the only thing we ate was the rice. The beef black bean has little to no taste and the squid was very chewy and flavourless. I attempt to get the attention of staff several times to send the food back with no luck and therefore let them know that i wasn't willing to pay for the squid. I didn't want to pay for the beef either but for some reason i did. the man who was taking my payment told me the squid is meant to be 'very tough and chewy it's how our squid is'. I let him know it really was not to a standard of paying , it was also not cheap, and he was polite in accepting this. maybe this was a once off let down, but unfortunately i won't be going back.

i can say with absolute certainty that the squid here was the most magnificent and flavourful squid I have tasted in my entire life. Any hint of extra chewiness was compensated by the flavour. I have never been so satisfied by a seafood meal. I was very disappointed when they took the empty squid plate away, I would have licked the leftover squid crumbs off the floor. someone proceeded to order bok choy which was a thoroughly disappointing yet healthier sequel. the chinese tea is also quite good but not as good as the squid. please consider adding a squid flavour tea to your menu.

Old time's favorite, not as good as it used to be, but not too dissapointing. It has kind of lost its Hong Kong charm, becoming a typical westerners Chinese restaurant but still good food, nice service and still a place to go when visiting Perth.

We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed the food. Usually we order and eat the entrees and then order the mains but last night we ordered it all at once. That was a big mistake. The entrĆ©e squid tentacles came out first, but a few minutes later the rice and one of the mains came out. We were annoyed but we didn't complain thinking that all of the mains were on their way. But we were then told that the remaining mains would be another 10 minutes. By then we had eaten some of the rice and the vegetable main dish. We pointed out that the fried rice and vegetables would be cold before the remaining mains were served. They offered to take away the rice and veg and keep them warm. We asked if we could have fresh riceĀ  and veg with the remaining mains but they refused unless we paid twice for them. In the end they took away the fried rice and the vegetables and brought us free steamed rice. Ā <br/>Ā <br/>This was very disappointing and spoilt the night. If they can't get the order of dishes served right then they could at least have provided fresh fried rice and vegetables. The excuse that they were busy is not good enough.

Weā€™ve been here a few times in the past and food is usually mediocre. This time round the food was poor. Broccoli was not well seasoned and the beef too salty. Spring rolls had raw pastry. Mee goreng did not appear like what itā€™s meant to be and tasted horrible. Needless to say we did not finish any of the dishes. The only positive was that the service was good.

Saturday night dinner with wife and her cousin, wasnt the best, service was okay but food was pretty mediocre. Food wasnt as flavoursome as expected in these type of dishes.

Staff: 3/5<br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Decor: 2/5<br/>Price: 3.5/5<br/>Will return? Yes if in the area <br/>Good quality Chinese food with reasonable pricing and portions. Fried rice and s/s pork was yum! Decor needs updating though.

Been a while since I've been back here, but glad to come back again recently. Restaurant looks nice and modern, and menu certainly has a good variety. Dishes we enjoyed:<br/>šŸ‘ Golden Pumpkin - with the sweetness of the pumpkin paired with a nice salted egg yolk batter, and fried till golden & crispy, oh my, that was a real treat!<br/>šŸ‘ Salt & Pepper White Bait- light and crispy<br/>šŸ‘ Steamed Tofu with Prawn Paste- simple but tasty<br/><br/>We also had the Egg White & Crab meat with Broccoli. Not the best looking one we've had in town and we would have preferred to break the egg yolk ourselves, but nonetheless, flavours were good and we still enjoyed the dish.Ā Surprisingly, the simple and plain looking Egg Fried Rice was really delicious, single-grainy and light.Ā <br/><br/>The least impressive dish was the Fried Mantou. It was a little too doughy and dense to our liking.<br/><br/>Service was friendly and food was served promptly. Prices are also reasonable for most dishes. Will be back again.

I've been going up Billy Lee's since my uni days. Even are its change of ownership, they have consistently provided great food and prompt services. Their garlic steamed chicken is a must-try!<br/><br/>

My new favourite place!!<br/>If you want to try something that will leave you mesmerised, please try the sizzling Japanese tofu. I've never had such an amazing textured dish!! Silky soft tofu warm and gooey, feels like you die and go to heaven!! <br/>Also had the char kway teow, it's my fav noodle dish, was good but missing the traditional charred taste. <br/>I would come here again and again just to have the tofu
Sharon
Although the food was tasty, I paid for it the next day as I got food poisoning from eating their food. Wouldn't recommend as the food may not be fresh

Considering you can stumble in here drunk at 3am and still get a good feed, Billy lees does ok. My rating is a little bit generous because I have never been here sober.
MunchingMadi
Such great service! Love the friendly team. Classic dishes always hit the spot. Thanks for filling me up and putting up with my bitchy friends. Love it. Xox love billy Lee woo
Shaun
Decided to come here for a late snack and ordered a couple of bowls of porridge. The pork with preserved vegetable porridge was really good and one of the best I've had. The other one we got was the century egg porridge which was good but needed a tiny bit more seasoning. <br/><br/>Deep fried Chinese donuts complemented our porridge as it's eaten in Hong Kong.

Eight of us turned up to Billy Lees late on a Thursday night for post-drinks sustenance. Good move. We were accommodated on the large table and food came out quickly. In the end, $15 each for a good feed. Will try again for sure.
JustWaite
My go to place for special fried rice. Can get hecklers with drunk people, but always a safe bet! Can't remember the last time I had their sizzling tofu...

I think I should get honey chicken from food court which is like a minute away rather than getting it from this reataurant. It tastes awful!!!!! And the spare ribs. It seema thwy have cooked it for 5 times. Half crispy and half wet. And i also think they are running out salt. It definately need flavouring as i'm not getting a healthy food from chinese restaurant.
Adelarina
Every.Single.Time. we go to Billy Lee's we order the same dish - sizzling beef. I comes out, as the name suggests, on a hot plate and steaming up the entire restaurant on its way to you.Ā <br/>Now this place isn't for your major foodie, its not even for your regular foodie. This is the place you come at 3:00am with half a bottle of wine and a need for oily Chinese. Embrace the surroundings, the atmosphere and the tanks filled with seafood that has probably been there for 5 years. This is a corner of Perth that is hard to find, but fantastic once you're there.Ā <br/>Word of advice. Don't go there sober.
Princess Zelda
Every town needs a Billy Lee's of some sort, a good but sometimes crap little place that is eager to take your dollars off you. I think the food is good but gosh its soooo dated and expensive. They use to be great but probably just good now.Very tolerant of big noisy growds which makes this a perfect place for a group catch up before a big night out and for that I love you Billy !šŸ¤“šŸ¤“šŸ¤“šŸ¤“

Billy lees is cool,<br/>Food is quick and delicious. <br/>Eat cheap and eat quick <br/>

I love this place, my favourite is the salted egg yolk prawns and the roasted duck. It gets really busy, but the food is always a winner. You can BYO and they are ooen til late!

Used to be good in their earlier years, but can't say the same anymore with all the other options in Chinatown. We had a good variety of dishes tonight from soft shell crab, tooth fish, lemon chicken, sizzling tofu and beef. None of them was any good to be honest - very artificial taste. Won't be in a hurry to go back.
Prince Of Perth
Seal of Approval. Many moons ago the Prince visited this giant establishment of the Chinatown scene in Northbridge. Sadly on that occasion, some 10 years ago, the Prince was taken ill and vowed never to return. However, upon recently visiting on a bustling Saturday night, the quality of the food and value for money was hard to surpass. The service was authentic and quicker than the Jamaican Mens 4x100 relay track team. As a result, the Prince is happy to let sleeping dogs lie with my friend Billy Lees and return on a more regular basis.

Can't beat Billy Lees for a delicious, nutrious meal. High quality meat/seafood served in every meat/seafood dish. It is true that Perth has some of the best chefs in the world and some of them work in Billy Lees kitchen. Great friendly service supports amazing chefs. Can't recommend highly enough.
Claire Miller
Seriously hard to find better Chinese in Perth, or in WA for that matter, the staff are always friendly and their Communication skills are good. Best on the menu is the chicken and mushroom soup, the chicken in oyster sauce and anything spicy!! <br/>Also one of the few places in Perth that is open late at night.
The Life Of A Designer
To be honest, all of the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown sounded the same to me! They all have good pricing, quick service and open till late!<br/><br/>Billy Lees is one of them! Very good food and affordable! Great choice after a night out!
Pooja Hoderkar
Tucked away in Chinatown's corner, my partner and I decided to head to Billy Lee's for a late night eat. (open till 4:00 am)<br/><br/>While Billy Lee's is not a fancy place, their menu is extensive and relatively cheap for the portion size.Ā <br/><br/>But for all its hype, I found the food a tad too bland for my taste. The staff is extremely efficient and they accommodated our request of Ā procuring a few vegetarian dishes. We tried the vegetable claypot, vegetarian noodles, fish fillets in garlic sauce and seafood rice.<br/><br/>Worth a try for after-party munchies.

What has happened to Billy Lees?<br/>Went in on Wednesday night to have a feed...but left not satisfied:(<br/>The ingredients that they used looked and tasted fresh but WHERE IS THE FLAVOUR!!!!<br/>We ordered the following:<br/>Chilli pepper spare ribs - average.<br/>Combination noodles - probably best dish of the night. <br/>Pepper beef - beef very tender but not much taste. My two year old loved this. <br/>Salted egg prawn - oily and not that salty. <br/>Sizzling tofu with chicken and salted fish - sauce was just water and no salted fish.<br/>Only saving grace which added flavor to every dish was the sambal.<br/>I won't be going back, unless they inject some FLAVOUR!!!!
Lewis Robertson
Myself and mad dog Sonny Belloti both rate the fine selection of traditional Chinese dishes on offer, I give it 6066 out of 10.

It was really good decades ago but now a disappointment. I see their staff is trying so hard to get the customers in the house but with their average food and not so tasty dishes. <br/>Jimmy the owner is trying so hard to do up the place but the food is just not up to scratch for a person who enjoys chinese cuisine. Maybe they can get away with it from white Australians but certainly not for people who enjoys chinese culinaries. I am just disappointed because this one is one of the oldest chinese restaurant in chinatown.
Justin
Probably the worst Chinese meal I've ever had. I was embarrassed to have brought friends there.
Alannah.sullivan
Review 28/03/15. I went to Billy Lee's for my cousins leaving dinner. The entrees were brought out after the main meals and one persons meal was missed all together. The wait staff could not communicate well to the point they had to ask one person to constantly come out and tell us what meal was just brought to the table. The bill was then provided in Chinese. Overall not a place I would go back to again.
Abbie
Nothing compares. Need I say more?
Rosie.sp
Check your bill. Seriously, check your bill before you leave, especially those who pay by card because they will add more than what was owed. They charged me for "tip" even though I never tipped nor would I, considering how bad their service is. <br/><br/>Would not go back anymore.

Good to go. I go here one night with friends after karakoe. Very good food for late night. Worth the price. I go again
Rod
I was disappointed when friends told me they waited over an hour for there food . Due to a function. I was disappointed hearing how they were kept waiting so long. I am a regular here and won't be back . As last time I was there I was kept waiting as well for a long time.

Extremely Nice. I just came back to Perth after my holiday at about 1am, and after the traffic we arrived at the restaurant at 2am which was when the kitchen closes, but they opened it just for us and let us stay. I ordered the wasabi chicken and sizzling Japanese beancurd as well as a special fried rice. It was pretty good but the beancurd was slightly cold. The coffee also helped keeps us awake, definitly would recomend
Fbs_999
Way overpriced. Food was mediocre at the very best . <br/><br/>Staff not friendly . Very rude. <br/><br/>Food is at least 1.5 times to twice as much as other places around the area. <br/><br/>Do yourself a favour .do your research before visiting .

Still awesome!. I have been coming to Billy's since 1998 after service as a lot of chef's in Perth do. Food is always amazing and staff friendly. Favourites are Chilli pepper squid, Peking spare ribs and Sezchuan chicken. Most authentic Chinese food you will find in Perth.
Joe
Overpriced and bland food. Dont even bother coming here.. the serving size is getting a bit smaller and waaay overpriced for the amount you get.<br/><br/>We ordered 5 dishes and all of them tasted bland.... now i know why i havent been to this restaurant for many years... will not be back again ever!!!
Chicagosox
Check your bill and keep track. Like other reviewers, i cant stress how important it is to double check your bill and keep track of the food on your table. theyre sneaky and will add extra $$ to your final bill
Storm
So much fun, 8 of us celebrating with so much food! Standouts were spare ribs w Peking sauce, string beans, fried pork noodles, chick satay skewers & sizzling beef. Such fast service & great value for money

Awesome. Good to see the bogans out in force on this page again. Billy Lee's is great, been going here after service for years and years, sometimes it's great, sometimes it's just good enough, but it's always good. Never been overcharged or hit with mystery charges, always had reasonable, fast service and always had a good time. Don't like it, there's always 24 hour mcdonalds...
Kraz
100% certain this place overcharges you. We had 10 dishes at $15-20 each and white rice. They tried to charge us 287 bucks and the bill was written on a white piece of paper. No support. The food also was below average and lacked flavours. Would never return
Jan Jan
We had the home made spring rolls, it was fanatics , the service is average. Don't expect too much ...... Would come again !
Richard
This is the worst food I have ever had in Perth whist being charged $200 for a crab. The crab was tasted like fried chicken with cooking oil dripping onto the plates. The other 2 dishes we ordered was tasteless. We went to this restaurant because all others on the same street were fully booked. If you would like to try the worst food you can ever buy in perth, please try this one.
Otto
Eaten here many time, food always good ! I think here is the best Chinese restaurant in town!
Javk
Having dinner last nite and 1. Does not taste good 2. Expensive. Taste diffrent from the past where uncle still around !

Excellent Late Night Dinner Destination. Iā€™m surprised at all of the negative comments Billy Lees has received as our recent experience was nothing less than perfect.<br/><br/>Everything we ordered (see photos for details) was exceptional in both flavour and texture, the service was friendly and attentive and overall was great value for money.<br/><br/>The ā€˜Beef Fried Ho Fun (Dry Style)ā€™ was the standout out dish for me and is one of the best Ho Funs Iā€™ve had in Perth.<br/><br/>With the lack of options in Perth for proper late night dining (ie we ate at 1.00am) Billy Lees has definitely set the bar high and I would recommend for anyone thatā€™s looking for a late night/ early morning meal to give it a go.<br/><br/>Recommend and look forward to returning.
Lisa Long
Been here before and it never fails! Tasty food, friendly service and very reasonable prices! Egg coated eggplant is a must!!
Biebe
We have been regular diners at Billy Lees for over 5 years, we had dinner there tonight where we were given our usual Chinese tea before ordering... Upon leaving we were given the bill which showed we were tonight charged for the tea ( we didn't order ), charged corkage per person ( previously only charged per bottle), charged Wine cooler fee,,, YES we we're charged for asking for a wine cooler.... We were also told only credit or cash payments only for bills, NO EFTPOS we were told their eftpos machine didn't accept eftpos translated from the owner through the waiter to us....after much discussion between myself & the waiter translating to THE OWNER we were told their eftpos machine could not accept cheque or savings.... Eventually I was told that yes it would but with a 3% eftpos fee. <br/>Add to this the usual complimentary prawn crackers were absent as was the complimentary orange after the meal.<br/>I understand change may be needed in restaurants but you must inform the patron before they request items or you place them on the table & walk away not informing the customer of changes.<br/>We will never go back & will tell everyone we meet about this outrageous encounter.
Artin_nic11
Minimum eft used $50. Yes if you want to use the EFT transaction, you need to reach $50 - ARE YOU JOKING!! and still need to get extra charge on top
Jane J.
Unable to Comment on the Price. I should premise this review by saying that, while I've always wanted to learn, my education has not yet incorporated a Chinese language. <br/><br/>And while I understand that Billy Lees is a Chinese restaurant, I don't think that it's unreasonable to request that the bill be translated into English so that I'm able to check where an extra charge appeared from. <br/><br/>Billy Lees; The food was delicious, the service reasonable, but I can't comment on the price...still a tad unsure of that one.
Tony
We all know good things come to an end and Billy Lees is going in a fast speed.

Wasabi Crispy Chicken..... I really do enjoy it, in fact, I come here just for that and nothing else.<br/><br/>It's busy, cramped, and service is... Sorry what service? Hmmm....<br/>I came here with a friend, was seated outside, ordered 3 dishes however her dish did not arrive until 20 minutes after the other 2 did, leaving the both of us sitting there with food getting cold despite asking a waitress to check up on it after the 10 minute mark. <br/><br/>Not sure whether It's the owner or owner's relative but some random guy in casual clothes was standing a metre from the entrance, eating what appeared to be biscuits the WHOLE time we were there. Just standing there. Looking at the people sitting down eating. Creepy much? Whoever you are, stop it.
Ceking
Rude owner!. BEWARE!! the restaurant owner gets angry when you want to check the bill. What a joke!! don't get cheated, check you bill at this restaurant.
Julz83
The worst dirty Asian food that money can buy with service to match its overall rubbishness. Don't bother here. They don't care
Wrap 'n' Rice Thai Cafe
I had nice special spicy beef brisket clay pot on Sunday night. The beef was very tender and delicious. I will be back again.

Once my favorite, now a shell of it's former self. Price up, food quality down. 2 thumbs down
HorseOnToast
No Butts Please. My friend found a cigarette butt in her meal and had to argue to get that plate (at least!) taken off the bill. 'Nuff said.
Pinao
Was extremely disappointed - this place was good however going back after 1 year was less than impressed - very bland, burnt, over priced
ARK
It used to be the place to go in Perth, but now it's gone down hill big time, overpriced & quality is average at best..
Patch
Below average food. Watch out for many hidden cost eg. Tea which you never asked for but given automatically to unsuspecting customers. Charged at ~$2.5 per head. It's $1 if you ask first.. Very sly establishment
Nachoman
Very slow service last night. Finished two dishes before the last one arrived. Also no eftpos but has credit card surcharge
Phil Soma
Probably the best all round Chinese Restaurant in Perth. I have tried numerous dishes here and have never been disappointed. Highly authentic
Thongngom
Food not carefully prepare. I went to this place last night and I found myself sit in the far end corner with some rubbish. I order Kangkong with sambao. I ate it nearly half and I found out that there were some weeds in it and I told the staff there but no response on them just smile.... I don't know what that mean with smiling. I also have to pay the full price. They will not see there anymore.
Subrotta Debnath
Gloop gloop gloop gloop, deep fried deep fried deep fried covered in gloop! Came here drunk once and loved it tho - I think the lesson is don't come when sober! It is cheap though, and open late which is necessary for Perth.
Dawson Gabin
Hidden Gem. This place is awesome, probably my fav chinese restaraunt. The atmosphere is great, feels like im in crowded some alley in Shanghai. Food is always fresh and its BYO so i usually have a few drinks here before going to hit the pubs and clubs.
Olle
NOT GOOD!!!. I am a fan of Chinese food, but last night this establishment delivered a low water mark among the Asian restaurants in Northbridge.<br/><br/>The Chinese beef with vegetables was horrible. The beef had been tossed in a far too cold wok resulting in a 'boiled' beef rather than a pan friend, the composition smelled of old prawns and the taste was just oil and said old prawn taste. Poor texture and flavour.<br/><br/>I will avoid this establishment in future. Pity, it used to be a place with good food.
Foodaddict
I have been to Billy Lees previously and really enjoyed it. This time round it was a complete disappointment. The service was terrible ( 10 minutes to reciece menus, 20 minutes for our order to be taken, our food doing three laps around the restaurant before they believed us that it was ours and one English speaking staff out of five. 80% of their customers where English speakers.). It was not late (7.30 on a Thursday night nor busy. Our food was bland and watery (got the BBQ duck and it was so disappointing). They refused to give me tap water. Offering me bottle water (at a cost of course) or more tea. When I pointed out that it was illegal not to provide water they said they would get someone to see me which didn't happen. Food didn't come out together. There was only two of us. So I don't see how that could have happened. Cost about 75 dollars for an entree, two mains, extra rice and dessert. Which may not seem like a lot but when you go to a chinese restaurant you do not expect to fork out so much for such a horrible experience. There was no apologisies. Even when someone took our order who did not speak English so we had to reorder with someone else. I don't normally complain so much but when you have a terrible experience and service you have to speak up. I won't be going back. But I hope if people do go, they have a better time of it than me.
Captain Munchie
Late Night Feast. Why get a Kebab in Northbridge at 2am when you can get a great feed at Billy Lee's Kitchen! I visit this place every few months when I have a big night out and does not dissapoint. The XO Chicken is my favourite and the service is usually entertaining with the language barrier. Not a place I would usually go to during the day, its fun before catching the taxi home. Until next time ... 6/10
Luvie Duvie
A long time ago like in the 90s, they do serve great chinese. Now? I won't even classify it as proper chinese food. The place is always so busy tho. I Wonder why?
Fussy Lady
Great for supper. Hungry at 2 am this is the place To go!! Busy and chineseeeee
Powlin
Yeaaaa. BYO, just $1 per person! <br/>Cheap food, good food.<br/>Great place.

Late night. Damn good food especially when itā€™s that late at night
The Tea Bag Ninja
I've read a bunch of the other reviews and I think they could be summarized as follows. The food at billy lees is fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. The service at billy lees will leave you sitting at a table of ten people staring at one dish, with no rice, wondering where the rest of your food is. I completely agree. On one visit to billy lees we had a waitress who smiled. This would have been a radical move for bl's and I think that's why she isn't there anymore. I've tried it about 5 or 6 times now and I think the key is to go in very small groups. If you have more than 2 or three people, the food is slow and with no service available, you can't do anything about it. However the food makes it worth it. Black pepper beef and eggplant curry are huge winners! If its warm enough sit outside and enjoy the night.
John
Loved it. Loved the food, and the atmosphere. everything was nice and fresh. the service wasnt that good, but the food made up for it. extremely filling, definitely would recommend the chilly vinegar chicken
Kyle
The worst chinese food iv ever eaten and the usual crap service you find in chinese restaurants bonus was that the table was clean for once
Chief
Nice food, enjoy waiting though
Phil
You want Chinese Spare Ribssss? Billy Lees will always be a favorite in Perth but unfortunately has dipped in quality over the years due to change of hands.
Redhotmama
You haven't had chinese til you've had Billy Lee's. Best Chinese food in Northbridge - open til the wee hours it's a perfect stop after a few drinks in the entertainment precinct. In an alley in Chinatown, find it off Nicks Lane. Recommended dishes - Honey King Prawn, Szchuan Beef plus authentic dishes containing, well, things you wouldn't normally consider in Western food. Licensed.

Good tasty and fresh food in a nice secluded laneway. Sizzling Mongolian beef was awesome and the squid was perfectly cooked. Quick food service. Liked that it was byo.
Mason McGowan
Very Disapointing................ The food is very good and fresh, but don't expect good service. It is the worst service I have ever seen in Australia, Wait........It is the worst service period. <br/><br/>We waited for about 30min waiting to order and after ordering they had brought us a completely different thing then we ordered. And the staff don't speak any English. I am telling you do not waste your money and this!
Damon
Great venue. Go here once every couple of months with a large group of friends. The food is always great. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. We are always rowdy.<br/>Can't think of many better dinners with friends.

Not so happy Birthday. I used to be a big fan of Mr Lee's restaurant until i chose to have my birthday there with 15+ guests. I was the only one to not receive my meal, and after several reminders to waiters still never received it and was then charged for it. I hate you billy lee. Tasty house 4 lyf!
Armanda Capelli
Bloody Fantastic! Best Chinese food we have had in a long time. Good prices too!
Angela
Fake. There are many other options nearby... like e.g. next doors... food average.. service average.. atmosphere average...
Birdy207
Not as nice as it used to. Since they changed owner, the place was renovated. But i dont like the food as much as i used to...back in 15 yrs ago
Lillian
Chinesefoodyumyumyum. Pros: I met Billy Lee<br/>Cons: $7 was miraculously added to the bill but I dared not question Mr Lee. Also, the crab kind of sucked.<br/>I will be back.
Camila Marcon
Went for dinner on Saturday. Table for 14. The restaurant was packed! Food came up reasonably quick. We shared all dishes. Extra point for the crispy duck. Price higher than a chinese take away, for sure. They had fresh seafood available as well... Service was average. Small restaurant but busy as... BYO wine :)
Trifena Trifena
Way too pricey for chinese restaurant. I assume all chinese restaurant are very loyal and generous to their customer. However, it doesnt work in this place since they charged 50c to $1 for every small little portion of chilli oil or cut chilli. Somehow, i felt like they charged of everything and always end up over $40 bills for 2dishes.
Js0n1
Nothing special.. Billy Lee's is one step up from your bastardised Chinese takeaway restaurants that serve honey chicken and bags of prawn crackers. I think the majority of people who like this place are accustomed to a lower quality chinese food.
Mztiff
Great food after a big night/ morning. Gotta love having a feast after a big night out in town, and Billy Lee's does this well. The food comes out nice and quickly with lots of flavour and generous servings.<br/><br/>I've been here for a regular dinner before and I must admit it's not the greatest, but I would much rather tuck into a plate of Chilli Pepper Spare Ribs and Special Fried Rice than an unknown kebab or pizza slice.

Cheap and tasty. Situation in the china town district in northbridge, you literally feel another world away when making your way to this restaurant. Went here for a work mate's going away dinner. We ordered all the chinese food staples (sweet and sour pork etc) and my favourite being the squid (and I don't normally even like squid).. they even brought out watermelon after we'd finished our meals.<br/><br/>Whilst we were eating the waitresses appeared to have nothing to do and did seem to be just standing there and looking at us. Otherwise the meals worked out to be $2o each. Cheap, tasty and open till very, very late..

MSG. I suspect they use heaps of it, Thats why it so tasty. Thats the only bad thing. Everything else is good there.

Fantastic. Billy Lee's is probably my favourite restaurant in Perth, and is definatly the one I visit most often. Perfect place to go after a big Friday or Saturday night service with the rest of the staff, the price is right, the food is brilliant and the staff put up with drunk chefs ordering all of the offal off the menu.

Accomodating Staff. My hat goes off to the staff, they must put up with so many drunken hooligans every weekend. Chilli pepper squid is always a must, unfortunately I was with some rather unadventurous crowd who opted for the expected safe fare of Singapore fried noodles, lemon chicken and pepper beef, all of which was thoroughly enjoyed at 1.30am after a long night out.

Very good. I liked it

Great Staff - Great Fun - Great Food (fight). We attended Billy Lee's after a night out in Northbridge. The food was excellent (salt and pepper squid is a must), and the quantities were good enough that you could fill yourself up to the brim, and have plenty of food left for throwing around the restaurant. <br/><br/>The staff are very friendly, and were all smiles once the foodfight begins. It seems that so long as you are happy to order and pay for the food, they don't mind it being thrown around the restaurant. On a good night other tables will join in, but be sure to pick your crowd as salted fish fried rice in the hair is not some people's idea of a good night out. Be sure to let the waiter know when you're done by emptying the contents of the tea pot over the table. <br/><br/>Highly recommended. I'm not sure if it is still the case but the sign under the register boasted that if you're not satisfied with any of the food, or your plates are not cleared within 2 minutes of the tea being poured on the table, you are welcome to walk out without paying. <br/><br/>Do yourself a favor, get along and visit Billy Lees!

Love this- cheap and cheerful late night chinese. No it's not all that much to look at but the food and value for money make up for it.

Fantastic! Nothing else to say really. Service is always quick, never had a problem getting a table. Meals don't come out in any particular order or at the same time, but the great service and beautiful food more than makes up for it!

Tradition is often as important as finding the next big thing. There is a lot more to Billy Leeā€™s than merely tradition, but it is the kind of restaurant that you cannot help get caught up in the past when you sit down and start flicking through the menu. I know why I love Billy Leeā€™s. It is because I have been with large groups, small groups, with family, with friends, and every time it has been in equal parts about catching up toĀ enjoy each otherā€™s company, and the sizzling beef. Yes, the sizzling beef. There is nothing cliqued about a boiling hot plate topped with onions, and then throwing three quarter cooked thin slices of beef and sauce over the plate.

This restaurant caters largely for late night punters still out in the wee hours of morning, and offers an extensive menu of choices. You know its got to be good, judging by the volume of customer turnover here. And the best thing is there is no one to impress here, so if you have a liking to get down on your hands and knees to eat, then you get down on your hands and knees to eat. No one really gives a damn.<br/><br/>
Queen Of Bad Timing
When you're out and about late night in Northbridge and you get that growly hunger pain that usually leads you to sourcing out a kebab or dodgy slice of pizza, please change your focus and head to Chinatown instead. In a square you find yourself faced with shining beacon lights beckoning you forth to try tasty dish after tasty dish. I tend to find myself choosing the destination based on what dish I feel like eating since they all subscribe to a late night offering into the wee hours of dawn. On this occasion after a fundraising movie event then a going away at the Garden, Jeremy and I were starving and craving some delicious and satisfying Chinese food. Though the idea of some kway teow was definitely tempting, the peking duck at Billy Lees was calling me. After all, it's one of the few places that you don't actually need to pre-order this dish. Peking duck We sat outside in the laneway amongst other diners, revelling in the semi-warmth of the evening. It's a nice atmosphere that seem

Dislikes: crap food, poor service, loud bogans with crates of beer; Overall: unimpressed and would not return

Open daily from 5pm till 4am in the morning, Billy Lees and the surrounding restaurants are frequent by loads of students, families and patrons who are feeling hungry after a night out drinking. Billy Lees has indoor dining with multiple levels of dining and also outdoor dining too. We scored a table outside and was quick to order a couple of dishes which were prawn toast, spare ribs with honey pepper sauce and chicken with salted fish fried rice.

Weā€™d been starving when we arrived (and I was dangerously close to grumpy as a result); we left full and happy. By the time we left I was feeling pretty tired ā€“ it was now approaching 11pm, rather late for me to be up on a weeknight. :)
