Review Swan Valley Gourmet - Perth

Best gluten free, allergy aware place to eat in Western Australia. Great prices and outstanding service. Who could possibly ask for more? The baby goats are cute too.

What an amazing place! set in the heart of Swan valley this place boasts sustainability, healthy living and pure natural beauty whilst offering a wide range of delicious gourmet meals! As if this place couldn't get any better, all the food in this cafe is ethnically sourced and some of it is actually grown on site! and for the cherry on top this cafe is home to some adorable and lovable animals such as goats, chooks and much more! so yup I definitely recommend this place to all!😀

Interesting cafe in the Swan valley. They've got a good menu that caters to food allergies and diets. We had the vegan breakfast which was yummy. The coffee was good too . They have animals around the cafe like ducks and goats, that was a novelty. It's just off the main road and down a long driveway.

Very unusual setting but the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.

Nice fish and chips and great friendly service! There are gluten-free and dairy-free options too! :) Goats and ducks outside; great for entertaining kids!

The owner is a beautifully understanding woman, who really knows a lot about food allergies and has incorporated this into her menu. We dined with a person who has excessive food allergies and fibro myalgia so doesn't eat out often because of this. He's now wanting to eat here all the time as one of the very few places who can accommodate his limited diet and how his food is cooked. The chef is welcoming and also happy to please. It's a charming place within the Swan Valley and with its open fireplace was a perfect location for a cold winters day. If you're bringing kids there a opened grassed area with roaming ducks and a couple of penned goats to pat, while you can overlook them from the comfort of the patio tables.

Owner didn’t even acknowledge us when arriving and next in line, simply lifted his head and stared, said nothing. Explained we had a table booked and were told it’s not ready, even though there were only a few people dining at the time. Told us to wait and they will get something ready. 30 minutes later we ask what’s happening and they still hadn’t sorted it.

Due to the wait for the table, we had missed the breakfast cut off and told we can only have lunch. Asked if they can still serve us breakfast as this is what we had come for and the table not being ready for the only reason we had missed it. They replied with “you can look at the menu but won’t be ordering from it”.

After a complaint was made to the lady at the front desk and chef who seems to be the owners wife, she then replied that “this isn’t the place for you and maybe we should leave”.

Asked why she was being so rude, she went to the owner and basically made up a story saying we were being threatening and abusive. The owner then told us to just “just f*** off” multiple times, shouting and being aggressive in my face. This was all in front of three families children and the rest of the cafe. Even the staff and the chef were telling him to calm down.

This place is terrible, even the grounds were run down. Inside the cafe is actually quite nice but shame it’s run by someone who has no idea how to manage a business.

Needless to say I won’t be back and will spread the word where possible.

Funny looking place, basically a big shed, dusty outside and quirky decor/art inside. Very casual. Wasn’t sure what to expect from the food but it was really good, all fresh, lots of vegan/dietary options. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we were a large group of 20 but had ordered beforehand so our meals all came out together. Delicious food and the chef Victoria came out several times to check that we were happy with our meals. She was a real character and lots of fun. Don’t be misled by the look of the place - the food is great.

Swan Valley Gourmet became the second Western Australia accredited venue around May this year. I just couldn’t wait to visit this sustainable cafe with a twist. The twist is that it is situated on a working farm and from the outside it doesn’t even appear to be a eatery. Owner Sas Jacobs wanted to create a worry free and safe dining experience for those needing gluten free after her own diagnosis as gluten intolerant. You can find Swan Valley Gourmet at 34 Haddrill Rd, Baskerville in Western Australia.

A different set up to most cafes. Cleanliness not the best. There is just random stuff all over the place both outside and within. I understand it is all about reusing stuff but there is stuff laying around everywhere. There is a random storage area under stairs in full view of the customers etc, stuff piled up. You need to dodge old kegs, old oil tins etc just to get in.

Price wise it is very steep for what you get. Cost $32 for a run of the mill steak sandwich (could have had a pork belly with all the trimmings from nearby for the same price). Nothing gourmet about it, literally sandwich and chips on a plate, no fuss but also not gourmet. A kids fish and chips ($15) for a small piece of fish and some chips - no sauce, no tartare. Paying $15 for a kids meal is rare and you'd expect a fairly good feed as it is not far off an adult meal price. Sadly it was not good in size or taste.

Would not recommend.

This place is great. Been a few times. The Haloumi Burger is fantastic, them making all their own bread products. The Gluten-free High is amazing, the perfect amount. If you want to hear some funny/ unfunny dad-jokes, this is the place to come, as the main guy will usually come out with at least one or two straight away.

We were a bit worried on our approach if we had the right place as the presentation isn't pretty. There is quite a bit of junk surrounding what looks like a giant shed but after seeing some impressive food photo's on social media we decided to give it a go. The staff gave us a warm welcome and we were surprised by the rustic but comfortable interior. The tables are oddly set out but the owner was keen to make sure everyone was happy and accommodated for. The menu is fairly basic but it offers something for just about everyone with gluten free (they pride themselves on having a fully separate gluten free prep area suitable for coeliac's), dairy free and vegetarian options. I had the gluten free fish and chips, which was good, it lacked some sort of dipping sauce but the chips were terrific. We also indulged in a chocolate eclair, it was lovely and fresh and I think it would've been hard to pick it was gluten free. The tea came in a proper China teapot with English style cups and saucers. Overall, it's not a bad little place to stop for a meal, the owner and staff are super friendly and it's perfect if you have someone in your group that has a food intolerance.
