Review 399 Bar - Perth

Best cocktails in Northbridge. Went there one night with my wife and some friends. When I asked for a 20th Century, they knew how to make it and when my friend asked for an Aviation #2, they knew how to make that too! Super friendly staff, great atmosphere!

My daughter celebrate her 30th birthday in this bar, we have fun and we enjoyed the night. Service are awesome, the staffs are all nice

Little gem hidden in Northbridge. Good and affordable cocktails made by knowledgeable bartenders. Satisfying selection of spirits and a well curated wine list. Also, pizza and bar bites ranging from 5 to 12 bucks.

I have been here a few times before and it has always been great. This time I wanted to try a few martini's, had a couple of nice ones and then asked the lady behind the bar if she could make a Sapphire Blue martini my favourite. The lady ecelled. The drinks were perfection. And watching them being made was great. And the bar is a great unassuming place and all the staff are very friendly and helpful the perfect place for a couple of friends or that after work group and with a small but very tasty food menu. A good fusion of all the best things you want in a local bar. I would have given the 6 stars but for one thing, not enough GIN please buy more Gin.

Always a favourite. The team at 399 will help you get the drink you are after. Pizza fresh or order in from Lido restaurant next door. Definitely my local!

Hosted my 29th birthday just recently and the staff were Soo helpful. Big shout out to Thomas & Rod for helping me organise the event. My guests had an amazing time and raved about the beautiful private area you guys had for us. The addition of allowing people's cute dogs to sit out the front also made my bday night for sure. Highly recommend for any private events!

I like this bar. Non pretentious, the bar stuff have personality and they do very yummy finger food. In a comfortable setting where you can it with friends and hear each other talk but relax to some nice beats. Good cocktail selection which I will certainly try next time.

Great spot to start the night. Knowledgeable staff. Shame about the smokers out the front, far too close to the open doors, get rid of that option altogether.

Nice little bar on William st. Good wine selection and beer selection. Love the alfresco area out back and the front. Can also order in pizza and Vietnamese food.

This place has changed management and it’s now one of my fav places for a drink. They now have a really nice undercover alfresco. Lido has moved in next door and you can have food from there delivered to your table. Nice selection of beers and a few on tap as well. Nice wine selection. Best of all it’s so relaxed in there

Went for an event last weekend and were not disappointed. The staff were wonderful and very knowledgeable. The venue is beautiful - love the decor - it feels homely and inviting. Drinks menu is awesome - def recommend the Espresso Martini. Will def be back.

399 Bar is a great example of what a small bar should be. It’s run by the guys who own Five Bar and Lot Twenty, and is refreshingly relaxed and unpretentious about how it goes about things.

Great pub or bar to wind down and have a couple craft beers and maybe meet some new people... also includes indoor and outdoor seating. What else can I say? I've been here once and did just that! Definitely a bar worth checking out if you're in Perth...

A definite favourite. Booths are bookable, as is the small courtyard out the back - no fee for functions. The bartenders are experts. They'll ask you what you like and invent a cocktail based on your preferences. Magic.

I love and miss this little gem. We stumbled across it one cool evening whilst walking from the Brisbane into Northbridge. What a treat! We walked in, only to be greeted by the loveliest bar staff who are warm, welcoming and talkative, without being over bearing. And boy do they know their stuff. Drop in here, have a chat, order a drink and soak in the atmosphere of what will hopefully one day be prevalent in Perth.

We had a hen's function here last Saturday and were so impressed. The customer service from Peter leading up to the night was fantastic, nothing was too difficult for him. Then on the night, we came in like a hurricane and the staff could not have been more amazing and patient with us all. Everyone loved the courtyard area and had a great time.  I will definitely be back for another espresso martini!

a great place for a martini or a glass of wine. come down on the oyster night when Jerry is there. the dirty martinis here are to die for. great little court yard out the back for you dirty smokers (like myself)

Must visit. It is rather surprising to me that I have not written a review for one of my favourite bars in Perth. I have had a few light finger food from this bar but it is not what I am here to talk about. I love a solid drink when I say solid I am biased towards a gin and tonic or my personal favourite an Old Fashioned. This bar is not huge which adds to its character and the bartenders or mixologists know what they are doing. Great personalities and solid mixes with a large variety of drinks and to choose from.<br/>It is a must visit.<br/>Enjoy

Went here one of quiet nights. I quite liked it the venue as it was nice n cosy box seats and not loud music, in which made us talk each other easily as well as enjoying drink. However, they didn't have much choice of bibles the night. They have a few nibble platter, but two out of the our three choices weren't available. Even thought delivery food available from other restaurants, it wasn't good look... Well, it is a bar not restaurant so it wouldn't be a problem I suppose...

Friendly staff. Awesome venue. I held a surprise birthday for my fiancé here and they made it so easy considering I had no firm idea of numbers. Great that you can order food from surrounding businesses and have it divered to your table. Cheers for a fantastic night 399 team, you're the best

Back in the game. Place had been slipping lately, maybe due to new management or just too much competition from newer, trendier places. However, have been back 3 times in the last two months and have had an even better time than in the "good old days" of 399. First time was for birthday cocktails with an old flame, barman was friendly, helpful and awesome, generally made me look good in front of a girl, which is of course what you always want from service staff.<br/><br/>Second visit was for some pre-date cocktails about a month later, all of the bar-staff were fantastic and friendly, gave solid drink suggestions without being pushy or too cool about it, and generally made for another fantastic night.<br/><br/>Third visit was for sneaky between-service drinks on a brutal Saturday at work with an outrage of a hangover. Accompanied by equally-shady sous-chef, we got a perfect Bloody Mary and a fantastic Corpse Reviver, with just the right amount of conversation and sympathy, without too much familiarity or intrusion on our terrible self-induced pain.<br/><br/>If things keep going this way, all the new super-hip bars have some serious competition to worry about (looking at you, Mechanics...)

A birthday to remember!!. I recently had a function for my 30th birthday in the back courtyard....and it was the BEST NIGHT EVER!!! I owe it all to the amazing team of Paul and Pete and their super talented team behind the bar. From the very first email to this review, they have been extremely helpful, accommodating, friendly and answered all my questions with hast and ease. Organising a function, with no hire fee I might add, has never been so easy and it was exactly what I was looking for. I have enjoyed drinking at this bar on many occasions, so naturally, it was my first choice to celebrate the evening. After receiving rave reviews from my friends and even my parents on the professionalism, delicious cocktails, tasty food from Dough Pizza and Yoshino Sushi... I would highly recommend booking your next celebration at Bar399. Great attitude, great atmosphere! Thanks a bunch guys

Best customer service in Perth. The current bar staff are super-friendly and knowledgeable, and they consistently make the best damned espresso martini around. The atmosphere is always great and the range of cocktails, spirits, beers and wines is extensive and interesting. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I had a function for my birthday at 399 late last year which didn't go as planned with a few stuff ups on the night courtesy of a perfunctory bar manager, however the hospitality from the proprietor Paul far outweighed any mishaps I experienced. The staff member at the root of those issues is no longer working at the establishment.

Great Small Bar. Loved everything about this place. Nice ambience, Friendly staff and great drink selection. I tried a few of their bottled beers and ciders and the rest of my group gave their cocktail list a good workout. A wide range of food can be ordered from surrounding restaurants.

FB espresso Martini Offer. I took up the 399 FB espresso Martini offer last night. I’d never actually been there before and it’s a lovely little secluded bar hidden amongst the Asian restaurants the espresso martini was the equal of any I have had at my other fave Perth bars & the place had a lovely buzz, not rammed but pretty full of a wide cross section of young and old... had some nice anchovy and chorizo tapas sitting at the bar. Reminded me of my time living in Greenwich Village NYC. I will be going back to 399 and New York

How could it go so bad :(. This bar was a favourite of ours and our mates. We would gather regularly in a booth or two and enjoy the relaxed and friendly vibe, the cool music and the good coffee and delicious cocktails. The papers were always there for skimming before the others arrived.<br/><br/>Last week we arrived, both of us felt something was wrong, it wasn't just the bad too loud music at 5pm, it wasn't just the nobody calling out hello, it wasn't just the lack of papers to skim it was all of these subtle changes and the almost depressing atmosphere.<br/><br/>I don't like writing this review because it saddens me that such a good cool friendly place could change so quickly and turn dismal. Very sad 399.

Loved this place!. This little bar was exactly what I have been looking for. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, the food and drinks are very reasonably priced and the whole place just has this very relaxed vibe. I loved everything about this place, from the cute bobble head collection on top of the bar to the tiki glasses my drink came in. The music created a really chilled atmosphere without being so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. 399 was the perfect place to end a perfect night. I will most definitely be going back.

Love it. I had my 30th birthday in bar 399’s courtyard last week......My first time there....My friends raved about the sushi platters, boutique beers & the manager even connected up my ipod so i could have MY music in the courtyard....Yep i’ll be back

It's Been A Frustrating Search. Thankyou Bar 399. Finally a place that knows exactly how a Mojito should be made. Clearly the best in Perth, finally the search is over for a decent Mojito!!!!! We also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and will definitely be back.

World class. As a global traveller of many years i happened to be staying nearby at ibis (I'm cheap traveller) i stumbled across this NY style bar with superb choice of old style classic cocktails ( not a blender in sight) but the stand out experience was the service that was knowledgeable, polite & welcoming.....not the norm in perth.......Thank you to the young lass who served me

Consistently good. There has been lots of new bars open in the last year but i still feel bar 399 is like a comfy couch.....it is friendly, low key & i must say the attitude meter here never spikes.....I notice they have added more food options & last sunday my friends ordered indian & pizza both delivered to our booth.....the staff were actually "happy" to serve us :) & i can tell you that isnt the norm in most venues.............The drinks are always good but its been that way since the place open... multiple stars guys

New management gotta up its game: From a very good small bar to very shaky!

No ambience. Rude staff. Tried to say hello and goodbye but no answer. Expensive cocktails and long wait for drinks to be made. Wont be back.

Best Cocktail Bar in perth. Every single time I walk into this place, I feel at home. The friendly cheer from the bar stuff as soon as my right foot hits the floor boards and welcoming glass of water accompanied by a superbly made cocktail makes me regularly visit this place. The guys behind the bar really know their booze, the bar is very well run and stocked thanks to Bill the barman, amazing food is supplied from the surrounding restaurants and now even the craft beer selection has increased. Flawless!

Give it a miss if you want a smoke free drink

399 is a hip bar . Great atmosphere helped by the booths and space at the bar. Good music fab cocktails. We like to go there before and after the Red Teapot next door. 5 stars for me!

What a place!. One of the best things aobut this pace is the awesome service. From being greeted at the door by to charming lads in 399 bowling tops or then by the staff behind the bar the friendly nature is infectious. Always such a happy place to be at. Plus the drinks are delicious

Great place for a function. A few months ago I had searched all around perth to find a place for a celebration where we could have a stand up meal, get people to mingle and wasn't overly priced. 399 bar fit the bill perfectly. We hired the courtyard out the back for the function. They were so helpful getting our platters organised and were VERY generous with platter size. And they only charged us cost price! The cocktails were delicious and the wine they recommended was spot on. We all had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for a function. If i lived closer i'd definitely be a regular here.

Brilliant.. Killer cocktails, friendly staff, good ambiance and even good food. Worst thing about this place is dragging myself out the doors at the (late) end of the night. Highly recommendable.

Great function at 399. My sister and I recently organised a function at 399 as a surprise for our other sister. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs, tailor-making a menu that suited us. We cannot speak highly enough of the way that nothing was too much trouble during the organisation of our little event. The courtyard made a perfect location and we heard many comments from guests about the quality of food and drink mixes. I can highly recommend this venue for small functions.

It's Still Got It. Haven't been to 399 for about a year or so. We had dinner at The Shanghai Tea Garden and ventured in for a drink after. Not a lot has changed which is a good thing, the decor was slightly different but the same great customer service was in full flow. We didnt really know what we wanted and the bar guy with the beard rustled us all up 3 individual cocktails tailor made, this is what we love about this place. We went in for 1 round and stayed for 3. I will not be leaving it so long for my next visit to this fine watering hole.

Nice. Feel like I can't mention a place without saying "it's expensive". Well its Perth and 399 certainly isn't the cheapest place for a drink (there are few). However I still enjoy coming here, I like the set up (except for the bad art) , the outside area and the bar staff are always friendly.

Nice Vibe. Small bar with trendy interior<br/><br/>No cocktail menu but it appears that the bar staff can rustle up anything on request.<br/>Only problem with this is you dont exactly know how much the cocktail will be.<br/>In my experience $50 will get you two lol.

Another cool bar on William. Nice small bar, large booths and a few bar chairs for those winding down after work. It doesn't have a large wine list but its ok. A few tapas available and generally just a chilled hang out bar.

Worst Place mid week. Went here Monday night following the reviews for a few drinks and nibbles before heading out to dinner - the Asian barman was rude to the point of insulting despite us doing our best to laugh off his blatant snide comments and general disgust with being asked to serve.<br/><br/>The menu was mostly rubbed off the board which our barman pointed at without speaking when we asked if there were any more options - meaning that there was about 4 tapas options left, all of them cold.<br/><br/>After 2 beers and a quick look at others walking out when they got the same treatment we left.<br/><br/>I'd suggest maybe only going on friday and weekend, perhaps they have food then, and the bar staff would be too busy to be obnoxious.

Perfect cruisy bar. I love coming here and having a beer with mates. Great place to relax with good ambient music which is not so loud you can't talk to the people around you. Cocktails are awesome and that's coming from a guy who doesn't usually drink em. Bar staff are hard working very friendly and from what I've seen they take a lot of pride in their work.<br/>By far the best thing about this place... is the fact all the scum unit/Elwood wearing crew and their tramp girlfriends (that usually fill up the CBD on sat night) don't like coming here! <br/><br/>Brilliant.

Love it here!. My Partner and I have been here a few times now and we are never dissapointed. <br/>We first went there for a friends 'goodbye drinks' I'm glad we did as we didnt know it existed before and now it is our 'new drinking hole'. They make an AMAZING espresso martini, yes it costs $20 but it is the BEST espresso martini in perth (and I have tasted a few) it is also a great drink to have after a long day out as it really picks you up and gives you a second wind to hit the town at night.<br/>Their tapas is lovely, they have some odd items on the list but after braving it to taste a few times, I must say they are worth it.<br/>Yes the place is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and i've never left there regretting having forked over the money.<br/>I also cant wait for winter to come again just so I can go and drink their delicious Mulled Wine - MMMMMM!!! <br/>Big Thumbs up - Perth needs more of these places!

Excellent quality cheeses. Particularly enjoyed the pumpkin and pecorino pesto with toasted Turkish bread.

Love the staff and service!. The service here is second to none! The staff are friendly and attentive from the moment you walk in. I've been here on a number of occassions and this has always been the case. Whenever I'm waiting for my husband to buy me a drink, one of the barstaff will come over with a glass of water while i wait. Wish more places in perth had this sort of service!

Great cocktails & venue. Wonderful place to spend an evening. Love the style of the tapas, taste great, just really pricey for what you get.

Sunday brunch. Four of us had brunch at 399 on Sunday and we were impressed. The café is tucked away on William Street and it took a few trips around the block to see it (and find parking). The interior is casual with booths and tables running down the right wall and the 'kitchen' and bar on the left. There is artwork for sale on the walls and plenty to read and do (someone already mentioned the board games). It was clean inside and the booths were comfy even after extended sitting (we were there for over two hours).<br/><br/>The staff is friendly and even in a short amount of time a natural rapport develops. They are also really polite and nothing was too much trouble. We were supplied water with ice as soon as we sat down and our coffee/tea order was taken and delivered quickly and professionally.<br/><br/>I can't say I am much of a Bloody Mary connoisseur but I found the mix to be excellent. Fresh tomato is used and the drink ends up being light and spicy with a hint of citrus. I recommend having one. We were left with our drinks for just the right amount of time before we were asked to place our breakfast order. All four of us had the big breakfast ($20). I found everything to be delicious. I had my eggs poached and they were done for maybe 20 or 30 seconds too long but the yolk was still nice and runny. The toast was crispy and the bacon and mushrooms were done perfectly. Wilted spinach and roasted Baby Roma tomatoes finished off the plate with some great colour.<br/><br/>We were offered more coffee during breakfast and a couple more Bloody Marys followed by a few James Squire Porter finished off the morning nicely.<br/><br/>We will definitely be back!

One of my favorite bars. This is a shoe box of a bar - long and narrow like a shoe box ;) with ample seating at the bar or in booths perfect for groups. They also have board games. Great selection of liquors as well - try the Lillet over ice with an orange slice!

Coffee is maybe a little bit pricey. ... for what you get, and I'm talking possibly the smallest takeaway coffee container I've ever seen, maybe 300ml, for $4. However, its one of the few cafes open in Chinatown, William st on Saturday mornings.

Fantastic. This is my favourite hangout. Firstly its just further enough out of northbridge so you don't get every p*sshead wandering in. Secondly the drinks on offer are amazing. Three is the vibe and happiness to please you from the staff. <br/><br/>Never tried the food so can't tell you about that. All I know is I leave here content everytime.

Great espresso martinis. The staff are really friendly, and if you sit at the bar they will recommend drinks and make them right before your eyes.

Never Ever Again. I really like this place but will never step foot in there after last night. I ordered a Hendricks Tom Collins which was nice enough but when I went to pay for it I nearly fell over when I was charged $28. I understand that Hendricks is top shelf but ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? A heads up from the barman would have been nice because I would have gotten something else. I had a stunning Tom Collins at Rockpool for under $20. Sorry 399 won't be back and will be sharing this story with everyone I know.

Great little spot. I am a bit hesitant to add a review on this - because I don't want it to become over run with people!<br/><br/>This little bar is so lovely. The service is great and it is intimate without being pokey.<br/><br/>The staff are polite, and service is perfect (they always give you a glass of chilled water with your beverage) - but best of all they can make cocktails. <br/><br/>Now I know this sounds odd - because you would expect many bars to be able to make cocktails, but no!<br/><br/>The staff at this bar can make you ANYTHING, and they don't need to refer to any books or recipes. Which is how it should be, but isn't anymore in Perth.<br/><br/>And to top that - if you don't know what you want - they'll invent one for you!<br/><br/>So if you are looking for a place that has some cool tunes, great atmosphere, wonderful staff and a comfy booth to chill in - then try this place out. <br/><br/>PS - they also have a tapas menu - that looks very good - but I am yet to try it as I have only popped in for pre/post event drinks. I'll get back to you when I have.<br/><br/>PPS - they are open all day - so great spot to drop into after yum cha for a mid-morning bloody mary. I have a couple of friends who have this as their Sunday ritual.

Will drink but will not dine.. I've come here a couple of times since it opened. They have a great selection of imported beers and ciders. Coffee is good too. <br/><br/>I love the concept of the friendly staff talking you through the menu and their knowledge on drinks and food are really impressive. <br/><br/>The food however is over-priced. I've had their breakfasts, tapas and muffins for food. I find them okay (not special) but really more expensive than necessary for very tiny portions (eg. One portion of marinated octopus tapas was served on a chinese soup spoon). <br/><br/>I still appreciate this place, but will come here for drinks only.

Very small venue but interior is nice. Service a little too over the top at times. The price they charge for food is crazy!!...don't bother getting the "small bites" we paid $19 for 4 pieces of asparagus a piece of onion tart the size of my palm and 3pieces of halloumi!! Way too overpriced...not only that, the onion tart was burnt and the asparagus cold. We will not be heading to this place again! Try five bar in mt lawley...prices are reasonable and portions good!

My favourite bar in perth. Amazing coffee, great cocktails, delicious treats - and chairs that you could lounge about in all day, drinking, eating, chatting and being merry!

Awesome Small Bar. I have always wanted to try Bar 399 and am always walking past... so it was about time.<br/><br/>Went in about 11pm and was looking for a drink - the bartender made an delicious fruity concoction with a cherry in it that sort of smelt like vanilla and pineapple as well as being very easy to drink.. The ambiance is pretty awesome with dark booths and the uniform of the bartenders is pretty kitschy but still nice.<br/><br/>They stock all sorts of liquor - Meyers Rum for example which is impossible to find in Perth. <br/><br/>Around midnight they rang a bell and yelled out last call so I ordered a drink which was a very vague suggestion of an apple smash that I told the barman I wanted apple and cinnamon and he delivered an awesome drink.<br/><br/>I would easily recommend this bar to anyone wanting a good chat and experienced bartenders.

Generally Brilliant (Most of the time). Best of the new "small bars" popping up in Perth by a long shot. Food is good, occasinally excellent but it's really just a sideshow to the booze here. Every cocktail I have had here has been brilliant, despite my vague instructions to the barmen. A real winner was a vanilla-y pina colada a friendly barchap threw together for me when they ran out of coconut stuff to make the more traditional version. Instead of going in with a set idea of a cocktail in your head, simple tell someone what you like, which spirits you would like to try or just how you are feeling, and let the experts do it for you. Only gripe is the bloody DJ they insist on installing on weekends. It is a bit too cramped on busy nights, but that's just the curse of the small bar, isn't it? Sunday afternoon sessions are the way to go.

Best. Ever. Bar. None.. What can you say - it's been like a brother, mother, sister and father and extended family to me. And that's just the amazing selection of booze. Friendliest staff, boozingest patrons and most amazing cocktails in the West. Always pure gold.

Fantastic place shame about the eggs.. I love coming to this place, the atmosphere is brilliant, staff excellent, love the live comedy in the loo.<br/><br/>Great to sit at the bar and have a drink or indulge in bloody mary's for brekky - with capers, so yum. Really really good coffee too.<br/><br/>5 breakfast visits later I wish they could poach eggs, I had 2 attempts at requesting soft poached eggs without success. All four of us had hard boiled poached eggs. However, the solution - scrambled eggs!

Fabulous knolwdgeable staff. Expensive wine selection. Average tapas - good menu but not as delicous as expected (raised expectations after visiting Movida are perhaps to blame). Have been 3 times now and found the music just a tad too loud on all occasions. Bathrooms are nice - love the feature tiles :)

Great everything!. Owner, staff and patrons are all great! The food comes out prefect all the time and they are always happy to make you whatever you want at the bar! Must come place on the weekends!

Brilliant!. Whether its after a crap day at the office, or the start of a big night, 399 is where I go when i need to visit 'my happy place'. The booths make it both comforting and intimate, and probably my favourite place to sit down and share a bottle of wine with a loved one (et al). The tapas menu means you're given enough sustinance to be there for hours, and has anyone ever noticed the slightly oddball entertainment playing in the bathrooms?<br/>Full of locals who want to be there, and the bloody mary breakfast on sunday is just the ticket. I love it.

Lovely ambiance and decor ruined by the arrogant manager who thinks it's funny to mock any customers accent if they are not Australian. If you are a tourist do not go here.

Because of this bar - I have no alcohol at home.<br/>Quite frankly, I don't need it.<br/>Bar 399 has achieved what I thought would be impossible - they make me a perfect (and different) Martini ever single time. Aromatic, dirty, smoky, dry, wet, 50's style - all perfect.<br/>I've taken many journeys through many types of cocktail at this bar and they have all been journeys to remember. This is one bar that I've never had a glass of wine at - because the people behind the bar can create and inspire with their ability to mix drinks.<br/>If you are serious about sensational and delicately balanced tastes, then Bar 399 is a must!

No cocktail menu. There's no cocktail menu but the highly competent staff will mix you whatever you desire, even if you don't know you desire it.<br/><br/>In an indecisive mood I asked for a cocktail list. The reply was "what do you like to drink?" Preference for tart over sweet noted; after a moment of thinking, squeezing, muddling and shaking I was handed a fresh and zingy long drink.<br/><br/>We then bulldozed our way through a range of reasonably priced, simple but lovely tapas. <br/><br/>Great atmosphere and comfy couches round out Bar 399. Please don't go there. I want it all to myself.

Adds variety to a dull area. By dull area I mean Northbridge, not the immediate surrounding 'chinatown'. Along with Ezra Pound further down William this gives some choice beyond the usual drinking suspects such as the fairly ghastly Brass Monkey. The range of beers is good (bit pricey naturally), and the lunch -which I've had a few times- is good and is not bad value. Staff are friendly and not at all snobbish. Nice atmosphere

Top stuff. Great for pre or post dinner drinks - great wine menu and lovely G&Ts. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The chorizo doesn't really taste like actual chorizo, but it's not expensive and good as a quick snack.

Excellent home-style tapas food. The croquettes are simple and delicious and everything else is yummy and flavoursome. Ask for dessert and they'll mix you a flip... Open late and some of the best cocktail makers in Perth. Winelist is small and great.

We walked into Bar 399 and it was fairly empty but had just enough people in it to make the place look alive. Two lovely people were working and smiled at us with an incredible warmth as though we were long lost friends. Only we were not so it was rather sweet and completely unexpected. I dont want to say service in Perth is bad because that is a broad and sweeping statement but it is rare anywhere to be greeted in such an unaffected way.

Yes, 399 knows how to mix a cocktail. These bartenders are some of Perth’s best – no cocktail request, however unheard-of or imprecise goes unanswered. The bartenders seem, in fact, to relish the challenge, seeing as how there are no cocktail menus.
