Review Hoi Bo Chinese Restaurant - Perth

Richard Eaton
The worst food I've had in a long time. I don't know how this had '4.3' stars. At one point the ' waitress' brought over a duck with plum sauce, which didn't taste like duck or plum sauce. So we asked what it was and she didn't know. She had to go back to the kitchen and ask.... Hope you read this review before you make the same mistake I did.

Food were reasonably priced (cheap) and delicious. The staff were very attentive and had probably replaced our plates multiple times during our dinner.

Excellent chicken rice and Lassa. Very tasty

Wasn’t having a pleasant experience with the customer service from the beginning which is fine by me and everything turns into absolute disaster after one of the dishes (Kang Kung vege with balacan) have a long hair in it. Spoke and showed to the waitress, and was ensured to remake a fresh one for us and guess what? More hairs found in the remake dish. And, have to cancel that order. The taste of the foods was quite alright but yeh… I dont think i will be back. Good luck with the people that having foods there, just make sure no extra ingredients before put the foods in your mouth haha. Oh and lastly, no, they did not apologise.

My favourite Chinese restaurant in Morley. The food is always good and the staff are nice. Cant fault this place
Heavy Rebar
Good quality food and decent pricing but food just lacked flavour. Tried 4 dishes and all were lacking, even satay and garlic dishes. Special fried rice wasn't special without the taste. Better options around, even at similar pricing.

Pleasantly surprised, wonderful food.. Very good quality and certainly can't complain about the prices.

Very good for us, n great serves , coupled with efficient service. Only down side is tjete is only one Waitress n Cook , hence , the waiting period ,especially, if it is a busy session like we found out yesterday evening at 6 pm. Will go there again-- definitely !!!

Decided to try this place after reading the reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The food had absolutely no taste. We all had to add sauce and salt to make it palatable. Won’t be going back.

Had the white chicken and soy chicken with the chicken rice here. Tasted brilliant, big compliment as Hoi Bo's steamed chicken tasted right, clean, none of those smelly chicken taste like how most restaurants make their steamed chicken. Soy chicken also tasted great! And the rice was fragrant with good flavour as well. Came with complimentary pickled veggie and tomato soup which was nice. Rice and soup was in generous portion and we just could not finish them. Good stuff

Been going here for a while.. chicken rice is pretty authentic and the Laksa is nice.
Just the service isn't the best..
Went in and asked to sit down to wait.. so we did.
Another couple came thru and went straight to the table we were waiting for and the lady owner just shrugged her shoulders and point to another table and tell us to wait for that one instead..
Nope! We're outta there.

Used to be a regular for weekend lunch when they were in Bedford before I moved to Sydney. The new place in Morley has a similar feel but seems to have lost a lot of the magic and perhaps a few of the recipes. I hope it was just a bad day. I have a soft spot for this place

Best chicken rice & Nasi Lemak in WA! I have been coming to this restaurant since 2013 and still love it. Authentic, generous and reasonable value for lunch. Very happy xx

Good chicken rice. We ordered both the white and soy sauce chicken rice. It came with the mustard soup. Portions were generous. $11.50 for each chicken rice. The white chicken lacked in flavour, the soy sauce chicken tasted better compared to the white one, the rice is very fragrant and I enjoyed the chicken rice chilli.

Better than average Chinese food. Fresh, and cooked incredibly fast. Friendly service.
Very few people seated there on a Saturday night. I assume their lunch trade is much busier?
Enjoyed the honey prawns- probably the best I've ever had! Large, juicy, and delicious. Mongolian lamb was spicier than I expected but this was ok because I love chilli.
Would return but won't be going out of my way to go there.
Jo
Our go to place for chicken rice. Very generous servings of rice and chicken. Love their chilli that comes with their chicken rice. Wish they give thick soya sauce then the chicken rice will be perfect :). Love the preserved vege tomato soup that they serve too.

Lunch = awesome
Dinner = not very good
I love this place for lunch. It tastes authentic and reasonably good value. But the first experience for dinner, wasn't very good. The dinner menu was a lot dearer and not tasty at all...
I recently had lunch at Hoi Bo in Morley. Some people might remember them from their old site in Bedford. Well they have been in Morley 2 years now and are open everyday. Having not been here for 3 years the place did not disappoint, serving some of the softest Chicken I have ever tried and great value, the Chicken rice was $11.50 The soup was also tasty and almost a meal in itself. The servings were huge and the service was fast and friendly. The only let down for me was that the Chilli sauce could have been better maybe add more ginger to it. Overall a very good value for money Chinese Malaysian restaurant.

Tried the fried squid tentacles, laksa and mee goreng. Squid wasn't as good as when we first ordered it but laksa and the noodles dish were amazing. We've tried over 20 different laksas around australia and it was easily in the top 3. The mee goreng was so well balanced and the sizes of the dishes were good too. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Lots of seating and food comes out quickly.

Great little Chinese restaurant in Morley, that I really only discovered recently. Very large portions of food for a cheap price! I had the chicken rice, and you can't really go wrong with chicken rice. Parking is plentiful if you park in the galleria. I would recommend this place if anyone around the area is in search for such cuisine.
Billylamb
Generous servings of rice and tasty soup with some bits of meat, preserved vege and tomato to accompany the chicken rice. Bigger servings than other popular chicken rice restaurant tak Chee and more comfortable setting too.
William Ooi
During lunchtime they have Malaysian menu though I understand the chef is Vietnamese but he trained at a Malaysian Restaurant there HOR Fun is ok and their chicken rice is quite big. They also do laksa, wan tan mee and Nasi Lemak they are all passable and prices reasonable about $10.50 a dish.

Ate here with 2 friends on a Saturday evening. The place was never more than 1/3 full with a 50/50 mix of Caucasian and Asian customers. I only mention that because regular Asian customers in an Asian restaurant is a good sign of authenticity and quality. The decor is very plain with no special Chinese influence and looks more like a takeaway with some tables and chairs rather than a dedicated restaurant.

The menu looked promising, even offering authentic Peking Duck if ordered with 24 hr notice.

Each of us were very happy with our orders, both quality and quantity were good. I had a Malaysian dish from the specials board of chicken rendang for which the heat level was on the mild side and had probably been toned down for local consumption. The portion size was huge and I really shouldn't have eaten it all.

Postscript:
That night and the following day one of us had stomach pains and a bilious attack - typical of food poisoning and suspected to be from either the prawn cocktail or the duck dish. We won't be returning.
Sammi
Our go to place selling the Best chicken rice!!!!! Love their sambal kankong! Went here today, ordered mee Siam (slightly disappointed), nasi lemak & chicken rice.

One of my fave Chinese restaurants! We come here in a group reguarly and are never disappointed. Standard order is lemon chicken, Mongolian lamb, sizzling garlic prawns and we normally order one or two extra dishes depending on how many of us are there. Service is quick- we usually go on a Tuesday night for dinner on our lunch breaks and are in and out back to work within the hour. We normally pay $20-$25 each including drinks. Restaurant isn't very fancy looking but the food is good and close to us- happy to go to local places. Will always com back here!

We were in the area and hadn't tried Hoi Bo before, so decided to pop in for a quick lunch. The reviews indicated we were in for a treat.

The place was quiet with only a few tables occupied, but was very clean, and the 2 ladies working out front were pleasant and helpful. I asked for a recommendation from the lunch menu, and was advised to go with the Chilli Chicken, as I had indicated I liked both of those things. My son Alex had eyes only for the Chicken Rendang. He loves the beef version but is trying to cut down on his red meat consumption. We also ordered a pot of Chinese tea.

Alex's rendang comprised 3 pieces of chicken on the bone, with steamed rice and broccoli on the side. It wasn't that spicy (hot) but was flavoursome with a tasty sauce. I had a sample of course, and concurred that it was delicious, and likely slow cooked.

My chilli chicken was such a generous serve that I couldn't finish it - that's where strapping sons come in handy, as whatever I can't eat, he polishes off. It was full of pieces of chicken in a very hot sauce, made so by many birds eye chiliies. I had to blow my nose a few times :)

Our choice of hot tea wasn't such a great idea though, as eating spicy food with hot tea isn't a great combo - the tea just burns your mouth even more.

These lunch specials were only $10.50; a bargain for what we got. There are some interesting specials on the whiteboard behind the counter, although we didn't see these until we'd already ordered. These included Patagonian tooth fish, soft-shelled crabs and prawns in egg yolk.

What we like about Hoi Bo is that it is a mix of Chinese and Malaysian cuisine, and therefore is a cut above the run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurants around the traps. The service was quick and friendly, the location easy to get to with parking on Progress St, and most importantly, the food was good.
The Current Munchie
This is a long standing favourite of my family and I thought it would be an absolute injustice to them if I hadn’t written about one of my more recent visits. Boosting in its Malaysian style dishes, and very affordable lunch prices, this is a place you can go to often enough without creating too big a hole in your pockets.
Jonathan Kwan
Very good the chicken rice. The best in Perth. Serving is big and generous. The soup is nice as is the rice.

With chicken rice the score card lies in the chilli sauce and this is very good. Well balanced in the spice level and tang.

Price for $10.50 is good. The chicken rice here is better than Maxwell House in Singapore which is one of Singapores best and famous places as recommended by Anthony Bourdain.

They will charge for tea and give you bottled water so make sure you ask for tap water.

The Nasi lemak though is a hit and miss. Serving is good with acar but not enough coconut and Pandan in the rice. The sides feel like it had been microwaved and the sambal too sweet.

Go there for only the chicken rice. The white one is better than the dark one. Especially they include garlic oil which is a winner on top.
Rick
Bit confused here, thought this was the old Hoi bo on Promenade. Menu was definitely not Malaysian as I saw no chicken rice or other Malaysian dishes. This is for the dinner menu unless there is no Malaysian dishes at dinner time. Pros for this place was service was alright but food wise was lacking something, seasoning perhaps? If anything the menu was more orientated on the Cantonese side. Was disappointed I did not get my chicken rice:( Something else not happy about but I will not mention as I spoke to them and hope they rectify.
Sunny
One of the worst restaurent I recon, my wife love Chinese food, but I don't, first time went there and spend over $65, at the end , when asked for the takeaway leftover, she handover the takeaway empty container to us & we have to pack it yourself, very stupidity, English of course they can't speak and understand, then how-come I aspect better hospitality
Dale & Hannah
This place is an old family favourite of mine. I love their new location near the Galleria. We ordered a small serving of Spring Rolls and Won Tons for entree, which were both nice and crispy and not too oily, and generously filled. For mains we had Sweet and Sour Fish and Black Bean Beef. The lunch special was a good serving size. Very satisfying lunch, probably my go-to for Chinese food in Morley. (Hannah)

I've been going to this restaurant for six years and the schwan chicken was fantastic... went there tonight and it was not worth the effort:( where now ?????
Justin Blackford
Meal over we waddled out of the place completely stuffed with delicious Malaysian food and, thanks to the wonders of brunch, still had the whole of Sunday afternoon ahead of us. Given that pretty much everything on the brunch menu is $10.50 our gluttony had only managed to cost us $15 a head too! So if you’re a fan of the glorious hybrid of breakfast and lunch and don’t mind finding your food a little out of the way and in places that seem a little rough around the edges at first glance, then Hoi Bo should definitely make it on to your “to do” list. As for whether or not their chicken rice is the best in town I can’t really say as due to our massive, ravenous hoard I didn’t get to try that much of it. Looks like I’m going to have to go back soon for a whole one so as to properly make an informed comparison. Damn…

Customer service 101: don't snatch my money from my hand and please pass my change into my outstretched hand rather than throw it on the counter and walk away.

You just lost yourself a customer, one who has been buying from you since you were on Grand Prom.

Plenty of other Chinese restuarants in Morley

Takeaway dishes half filled. See pics to see what I mean. I'm not big on posting, but this restaurant made me very mad, I feel cheated, I paid the same price as I would at other Chinese restaurants for half a meal. So now I'm making a post.

I agree with another poster here, the rave reviews this place must be from friends and family. The food in the egg coated prawns is so salty I cant eat it and I have a high salt tolerance, use it in everything, but you know when you go to far, this one went to far and I have had to throw it out.

The lamb ginger and onion is very good - but you only get half a container filled with food, I can see clear to the other side.
The pork belly hakka, alright - almost too salty again. See pic for half filled container.
The free prawn chips on the other hand - no flavour at all, or that might be my salt coated tongue confusing me ;)
The special fried rice is also a generic flavour, no bursts of food heaven there...

I'm not going back, and you reviewers that say your in food heaven can't make me.

Note: I couldn't add my pics to this review, so I placed them into the main photo album for this restaurant.

Quite service. Yummy food. Not one dish was disappointing. This will be one of our favorites.

I'm in food heaven!. This is what I kept saying to my bestfriend while having my birthday lunch at Hoi Bo.
We had the soy chicken rice, laksa and seafood char kway teow, I would recommend all 3 dishes!
I definitely agree with other reviews that this is one of the best chicken rice places in Perth!
Staff were very friendly and efficient and meals are all reasonably priced.
I'll definitely be returning to try other things on the menu.

Chicken Rice - Soy. Rice and soup for two

BEST CHICKEN RICE IN PERTH. I've been searching everywhere in Perth for tasty and authentic chicken rice and I gotta say Hoi Bo takes the crown for the best chicken rice in Perth. Their chicken rice is authentic and one of (if not) the best we've had here, also their laksa is a must try. Will definitely be back for my chicken rice fix! :P
Foodie85
I love Hoi Bo. The chicken rice and laksa is amazing and authentic. I just hope they did the chicken rice and laksa for dinner as I can't make it there during the lunch time
Foodie
Excellent food and fast service. Great chinese good. The Peking duck is a must do dinner!
I Eat Therefore I Am
Chicken Rice makes me happy. There are two types of people in this world: those that love chicken rice and idiots. If you are in the former of those groups then I recommend Hoi Bo as one of the best places to get the good gear in Perth.

The chicken is moist and tasty and the rice is fantastic. The broth, which is really more of a tangy soup, is unique to this shop (at least in my experience) and has chunks of veggies submerged within.

My only criticism is that they do not offer chilli oil.
Bonnie K
MOVED !. Place has moved to 3 progress st Morley, & the chicken rice is still better than ever !

HOI BO - Absolutely DISGUSTING. By far the WORST Chinese restaurant in Perth. Any good reviews you have read could only have been friends and family of the owners. I am and have never been one to throw out food up until now. The take away we had was totally inedible. The food was revolting and that's being kind.
Don't waste your time, petrol and money going there. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC

Has this place closed?. Tried to call the number a few times in the past couple of weeks and now it says call cannot be connected?
Mark
Hey Steve. Yeah best chicken rice in perth i reckon. and maybe the worst nasi lemak. haha. still a bit far for me to trek here. soya chicken was the best.
Michael
Have been here several times. Fantastic, no frills food. Very reasonably priced, tasty and super fast service
Yummilicious
Weekend lunch. Came here for lunch because the rating is good but what a dissapointing visit. Laksa is bland and not spicy. The Chicken w rice is not the best.
Jmunro99
Great food, price and service. Ate here tonight with my wife and 2 kids. excellent food, quick and hot, service was fantastic all at a cheap price for the 4 of us. Will definitely be back soon
Pris
Nice steamed chicken rice. Tried the steamed chicken rice and it was good. The chicken was not dry and had a gelatinous skin. the soy sauce chicken was not to my taste but everyone else at the table loved it. The rice was a little soggy but it had good flavour and other side dishes were good as well.
Leon Pitsikas
Very very good. Very generous portions and the service was very good. We had the sweet nd sour fish satay beef and vege soft noodles. Great flavours for all dishes and the fish was well cooked and very tasty. Highly recommended..

More is Less. Got a take away but unfortunatley was not impressed. Was very much a case of quantity rather than quality. couldn't nor wanted to finish it. bin bound

Fresh and tasty. Chilli prawns were nice and hot with fresh chilli. First time but will be back for sure

Best chicken rice in Perth. This is my local Chinese restaurant so I might be a little biased but this has the best chicken rice in Perth. The owner used to run a restaurant called the Coral(I think), which I used to go to with my parents about 20 years ago.

The weekend lunch menu is the highlight. Chicken rice, fried kway teow and the laksa are on rotation for me. I get one of these at least once a fortnight.
If you want to dine in for the weekend lunch menu then be prepared to get there early or wait for a table. The place is always popular around noon.
Irwin Pang
Very average Chicken rice being over rated. I tried it a second time with also Soy Chicken rice as well. Portions were small for the price and the white chicken is over cooked. It seems like people are reviewing
and raving over how two plates of chicken rice $20 where places like Tek Chee have half a Chicken and taste so much better with a better value is compared.

As again, I believe they are not a chicken rice specialist due to only availability on weekends. They gave quite a lot of rice, how about more chicken and less rice to balance it properly?

I just don't get it, why people are raving about its so tender when there are better in Perth? My only conclusion is that there are just biased reviews as they scored it by location. "my eat out" rather than honestly judging the dish. The Chicken rice isn't bad, its just not that good.

-----01 Sep, 2013-----

Overrated Chicken rice? but not a bad dish. I am disappointed at the same time a bit frustrated.
Why?
I read reviews here comparing to Tak Chee which I just had last week.
My parents came from Singapore and we have tried this today and sadly I have to say it isn't what I expected from the rave reviews here.
First off Chicken rice taking more than 10 minutes makes you really wonder, is it that good? Answer: it was average at best.

Whats wrong? > Chicken was over cooked, skin was not as smooth as what people are claiming this as the best Chicken rice in Perth.
Service was okay, as this is a weekend.

The soup, is salted vegie soup, while some would say this is better, for me its not where I can rate the soup chicken broth so to me is one point down here.

The Chicken is $10.50 per plate, so three of us ate and they gave us a plate of chicken to share and looking at the pieces it looks miserable for $30. Tak Chee has $18 for half a chicken which we all ate happily.

Let me first say, if you like Singapore Chicken rice, THIS is NOT to be raved about. Maybe people here were catered to Malaysian style and thus all the big raves about it. For those who like Tek Chee Chicken rice in Perth, you wont miss much over here.

I am going to be a bit fair, I am not rating this as Like or dislike. But I don't think it made it into my Chicken rice place. Overall Tak Chee has better, softer and tender chicken and I should emphasise they cook it everyday so the consistency is more accurate.

My dad commented the Chilli sauce was better, but that's about it.

Again, I am not disapproving this, but for me this isn't the best Chicken rice in Perth for me. I pretty sure a lot of supporters here may disagree, but I am here reviewing it as what I felt. To me its not whether I had cheaper and better, but the truth is I had cheaper and better unfortunately.

One last thing, if they are famous for their Chicken rice, WHY ON EARTH only serve this only on weekends? Contradiction here I believe. I think a lot have not tasted real Chicken rice or tried Tak Chee and understand the standard of tender smooth skin chicken if you had what I had today, you be disappointed.
The Grizzly Bear Perth
Saturday/Sunday Malaysian Lunch Special. Ordered (Take-away):
2x Chicken & Rice (1x white sauce, 1x soy) $10.50ea
2x Laksa $10.50ea

Service:
The lady on the phone was friendly. Even though the restaurant was nearly full for Sunday lunch (11:00-2:00pm) the food was ready in 15 minutes.

Food:
The order was enough for 3 people to enjoy comfortably.
The laksa was flavoursome. Creamy, spicy yet not overwhelming.
The chicken –which I ordered after reading its many great reviews- was exactly how it had been described, gelatinous and juicy. The soy sauce chicken was very good, but white sauce chicken was simply incredible. Both had lots of flavour.

Summary:
I highly recommend trying Hoi Bo, as well as the laksa and chicken rice dishes.
Definitely a favourite in this area. I will be coming back.
Hippokathy88
Fantastic chicken rice!. A friend introduced me to this place, I was skeptical at first but OMFG their Hainanese chicken rice BLEW ME AWAY!!! The chicken was smooth, tender and the skin was like jelly! They have the best chilli & ginger dipping sauce as well. I reckon Tak Chee's chicken is more flavoursome in the chicken department but still this was fanfriggintastic!! The rice that was cooked in the chicken broth, however, is the best in Perth!
Old Bird
Chicken Rice. Must try the chicken rice and Ho Fun with egg sauce. Very consistent and friendly service. My usual Saturday lunch hangout and take away.
Noodles
OMG YUM!!!. Seriously awesome chicken rice. Friendly staff and quick service! This will be my new weekly visit!

Delicious times. In Perth for the week, was looking for somewhere decent to pick up dinner... chose Hoi Bo based on the Urban Spoon rating and was not dissapointed. Had the duck clay pot and the BBQ pork Chinese style, both were delicious and flavoursome.

Wish this place was down the road from us at home!
Crabcancer
This is a feast. Was around the Morley area on a lazy Sunday. Hmm, why not try this for lunch.

At first glance from the street, this place is nothing to shout about. Simple front, non-descriptive generic shops beside it and the usual A4 printout of a menu sticky taped to the door.

Ok, here we go. Ordered 2 chicken rice for the wife and myself. The little boss has a plate of wan tun noodles.

Dishes arrived. OMG! Did the chef miss the lesson on portioning? I think this is one of the few places I have been where 1 order can feed 2 people. Honestly. After visiting other establishments and being treated like I am a pigeon, Hoi Bo is welcome change. For once in a long time, all of us had a very filling lunch, had enough to pack for dinner and the unbelievable bit, the little boss could not finish his noodles. This was amazing as noodles are his favourite dish.

The chicken rice was a nice portion, I would estimate that each plate was at least one third of a chicken. The rice was a bit lumpy at the start but once drench with the chili and a bit of soup, everything went down smoothly. Oh did I mentioned that the chili was absolutely fabulous. Not spicy but not bland and had just the right amount of zing to it. This dish was also accompanied with a bowl of soup normally served with chicken rice. Unlike some other places whose soup is basically water with stock, I think Hoi Bo had actually boiled the chicken bones with the soup for a while to end up with a very savoury soup.

Unfortunately as I was so taken with my chicken rice that I didn't get to sample the wan tun mee. But for the gusto displayed by the little boss, I would take it that the noodles meet his approval and the amount of vegetables that accompanied the dish met my approval as it was good serve.

So... ...

Place to visit if you are hungry or want to have a good serve of chicken rice. Or both!
Geri Adams
Delicious treasure. Had a take away from here tonight, Very pleasantly surprised. Crisp spring rolls and prawn crackers, succulent pork in plum sauce, sweet and sour chicken and the most delicious lamb I have had in a long time.

Plenty left over for lunch tomorrow!
Steven
This was not nice Chinese food, I am not sure where the reviews came from because that is what we went on. The rice was pleasant but every other fish had a really weird taste to it. I lived in China for 6 years so I know that Real Chinese food tastes different than what is served in Perth. This was something else, try it at your own peril!
Super Bite
Weekend lunch. Been here a few times for the weekend Malaysian lunch. This is a difficult act to follow. I can recommend the excellent chicken rice; the kway teaw ( very yum & scorched flavour ) & the mee siam. Also give the nasi lemak a go as it's unusual. As a consequence they run out of it fairly quickly. The wok fried veges are well...very yum. Hey the spinach is great as well as the kang kung. This is a place to eat at for the real deal Malaysian with reasonable prices to match. These are the places that the weekend west food reviewers should be visiting sometimes & not always these High End wine bars & tapas joints that leave you running for an overdraft the next day.
REVIEW BY MIGHTY BITES

Best chicken rice in Perth. The steamed chicken is phenomenonal. Dinner is great as well.
Litig8tor
Good value. We ate here for the first time last week. The menu is extensive and good value as the serves are huge. The crispy skinned chicken was a little dry, but the czechuan squid and duck claypot were both very nice. BYO a bonus.
FoodLover
Good experience. I just went there yesterday with my friends and the food was really good! The duck with crab sauce is a must try as well as the sweet and sour pork. The only problem I had was the pice of the chilli!! We ordered 2 small bowls of sambal and cut chilli (which at most restaurants is free of charge) and we were charged $6 for the sambal and $3.60 for the cut chilli. But other than that, the overall experience was great!
Poiter
Nice hawker dishes. The chicken rice here is reasonably good as is the serving size, which includes rice, chicken and soup. They do both plain and a soya chicken. Seems to be the most popular dish here.

The mee goreng was pretty average when we tried it. It just didn’t seem to be well fried. We wouldn’t try it again in a hurry.

Prawn noodles was a standout dish that we would have again. The soup was very clear of excess oil and the flavour of the soup was great, as was the serving size. Some pieces of the char sui (red bbq pork) were a bit overdone and dark, but that didn’t spoil an otherwise excellent dish.

The nasi lemak was excellent as it had some nice acar along with the normal accompaniments of fried ikan bilis (super crispy), egg and curry chicken. We'd definitely have this dish again.

They also have tau fu fa, which is a nice addition. The first time we had a serving, it was really nice and smooth, but another week it was not so great, but we think that’s because we got the last bits as it was a late lunch.

The laksa seems to be popular also, so we’ll have to try this another time.

The restaurant is nothing fancy, but any of you who have been to the local malaysian chinese standard of restaurant, should know what to expect. It's not what the place looks like that is important, it's the food that is most important. Service is reasonable for this style of food and dining, but be weary as they do get very busy at weekend lunchtimes, so you might have to wait a while for your food.

If you are in the neighbourhood, its worth a visit for the hawker style dishes.

I can't believe I haven't heard about this place! I discovered it by accident the other day whilst investigating the Bonsai shop nearby. I decided to go back today for the Chicken Rice I had seen on the menu and read about from other peoples reviews on Urbanspoon.

Let me just say that the Steamed Chicken Rice us the best I have had so far this side of the river! Not only that, it was also the biggest serving for the price...which makes sense considering it's location.

Decent enough Chinese for the price. Weekend specials are awesome

Good chinese food!. I've heard Hoi Bo is famous for their chicken rice... and it didn't dissappoint! The chicken rice was delicious. I ordered the mee goreng, and it was very fragrant and nicely fried. Food came in a timely manner. Prices are about $9.50 per person for lunch.
