Review The Berrigan Bar And Bistro - Perth

Well this was a wee gem. $15 steak night. Was a winner. Seafood platter for 1 was amazing. This place was humming for a Monday night plus being Valentine's Day. Staff were run off there feet but were providing great service. We will definitely be back...

This place was amazing. Service was great. Food perfect staff and management were the best. Thank you. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Thank you for making my birthday dinner enjoyable. Definitely will go back

Usually we have a great food experience there but the last time we went , we were quite surprised at the food portion size. Below is a photo of the pork ribs and beef ribs. The beef ribs were so small, we were shocked. The beef ribs were more expensive than the pork, we also noticed that on the menu, they do not mention if you get half a rack or full rack when ordering. We queried the portion size with the waitress who took the plate back to the kitchen but then returned and mentioned that this is how the chefs said it’s done. Quite disappointed as we felt ripped off.

Nice place to take the family. The food was lovely. Preferred more chips and not the show string version though.

Wow our seafood platter for one really lived up to its post site promotion. Not too greasy which was a bonus and tasty. Could easily have shared as the plate was overflowing with food.

Had a great meal here. Big portion sizes and friendly service. Food came out pretty quick aswell. Will be back

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great pub food.
Niran Wick
Great staff and very decent seafood platter for the price. Outdoor tables were quite sticky.

After many years using Berrigans...Fitzy's..as a family function/meeting place I have to say that last night rated as one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had. We had a party of 37 to celebrate my mother in laws 93rd birthday.<br/>Orders were a complete shambles with orders missed, delivered to wrong people, food cold. When we asked for information on what was happening with parts of peoples orders we were treated rudely by the waitress. My husband had to spit out plastic wrapping that was cooked with his pork ribs. Everyones chips were half cooked and lukewarm. <br/>Won't go back in a hurry

We came around lunchtime on Sunday and were unaware that the $12 lunch specials ended at 2:30 pm but the lady behind the bar was nice enough to put them through for us. The veal parmy was ok. The crumb on it wasn't very crunchy and was quite soggy. Might have been sitting under a heat lamp too long and the oily crumb would've soaked through. My friend ordered the lamb shanks and I think they were the winner of the list of specials. The chips were good. Would be nice if the beers and cider on tap were cheaper too during these deals.

Fast service. Nice atmosphere over looking the lake. Good value for money with the 12 dollar lunch special. Other items on the menu also well priced. Great local pub!!

We went here for a work lunch and won't bother going back. Firstly, we went at 11:30 and there was not one other person in the restaurant... which has got to make you wonder! They hadn't turned the aircon on and it was so hot on the day that we were there. It took them way longer than it should have to come over and take out order given that we were the only patrons. There weren't any good vegetarian options so my other vego friend and I had a bowl of chips each (which is not a nutritious lunch!) The meal sizes were good and the food was fine - it's just that there is nothing remarkable about this place. The view outside is pleasant enough but I have no reason to want to come back.

Breakfasts. Lakeside is now serving alacarte breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Great place to have breakfast and then take the children to the park to burn off energy. <br/>From Pancakes to the Big Breakfast it caters for all tastes. <br/>Lakeside Bar & Bistro is a great local venue that is Southlake's best kept secret.
Food Lover
Awsome food!. I dined on a Scoopon voucher, what a great little find! I live in the area and never knew about this pub. Food was awesome, great tasty portions, will be back for more!

Fantastic food and service, can't complain about anything.. I had the scoopon voucher for a value of 2 appetizers and 2 main dishes, so I went there with my girlfriend just now. We had arancini with pumpkin and feta, and calamari. The arancini is a bomb! They're so good, and the portion is really generous! both of us are actually pretty full after the appetizer. Then the waitress came and cleaned our table, and not long after that, our main dish came. The waitress is definitely keeping a good eye on us coz she knew when to take our plate and when to take out our main dish. great service!<br/><br/>We ordered t-bone steak and pork belly. The T-Bone steak is cooked as to my liking, the medium-rare, but the pork belly is the hero of tonight's feast, I have to say. It has this crackling skin to it, and when you cut in it, it's tender inside. Very delicious, very satisfying. Can't say anything more.<br/><br/>Oh, and we had the house red wine and white win as our companion tonight, and the drink came a second later, lovely service, once again. Both the waitress and the waiter are just lovely. Great service, even better food. We went there for dinner just now, but probably lunch time might be better as you can see the lake view outside.

Food good, entertainment good, service bad, drinks bad. Second visit to see how change of management going. Were told to sit down and not go to bar, as someone would take our drink orders, the steaks were awesome, huge, good pub grub. Didn't get drinks (made incorrectly) til after meal served. Plus the bar girl told me I was wrong, there is cream in the espresso martini I ordered (although it does not show on menu).<br/>Order wine, beer and a good pub meal. Don't expect anything else.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED with the restaurant. Walked in at 6.30pm and ordered dinner within 15minutes. Still waiting at 8.15pm for our meals with 3 hungry children & adults of course. When we asked what was taking soo long for our meals to be served the answer was "because we ordered 2 garlic breads for entree" .. Funny enough once we asked about our meals, they quickly put them on our table. They were incorrect meals. We walked out without eating our dinner. The staff were rude & not very inviting either. Never ever again will I come to Lakeside. I will not recommend you either. Poorly run business!!!!

Went for Sunday lunch today... Partner had Steak, I had the pork belly. Steak was average but "ok". Belly was dry, crackle burnt and wee bit rubbery. Needed gravy or a sauce so I asked for some. Both had side salad - boring coleslaw with cheap dressing. Both meals were quite pricey considering.. The upside- Service was great!!! :-) really nice waitress & barmaid.<br/>We were keen to give this place a go (as we usually frequent the Gate) but not sure we'd take the risk again. Chefs need to raise their game. Thanks.

TERRIBLE!! NO NEW OWNERS, NO NEW MANAGEMENT JUST A NAME CHANGE!! Started off with poor service, we grabbed our own menus and sat ourselves at a table. While staff happily watched us and continued in there own conversation. We ordered our meals. After an hr wait for a table of 4 the meals were tasteless and cold. The venue was not buisy, so there was no excuse. As being a local I have tried many times to visit " fitzys" lakeside bar & grill only to be disappointed. We will not return.
Tanya
Adequate for the price. My lambs shanks had a very rich mushroom gravy which after some time was a little hard to eat being so rich and thick. <br/>The shanks them selves where very soft and feel apart which was nice. <br/>There was an obvious effort for decoration despite the food being of home style cooking. Comfort food dishes if you will. <br/>The steak's gravy was unfortunately watery. <br/>The steak chips and salad was of usual pub food standard.<br/>As for decor do not expect anything special but I will say the staff were friendly, they were all accommodating. For eg I had asked for the fire place to be lit and it was no problem. The two men servicing the attached bottle shop were very happy to help me locate a wine

Went there recently and we were so surprised and impressed. Great food, great prices and such friendly staff. Great little spot for a family meal, especially on the al fresco balcony. Just returned and again superb, apparently under new management since a few weeks before we first came. I highly recommend!

Fitzy's has changed management once again and this is for the better. Excellent meals on two occasions, friendly, war welcoming staff. Kid friendly with real chicken bites not nuggets. Very affordable as well. Can't fault them on anything.
Sally
YUK. Very very basic, food was undercooked and cold and overpriced!!!!
Christiana.bain
Overpriced, slow service. Decided to have a meal at Fitzy's after driving past the shops at South Lake a few times before. Steak was average, seafood could have had more flavour and should have been grilled further. Overpriced and average. The staff could have been more friendly and service went downhill once it started getting busy. Not going back again!
Margmurphy28
UNBELIEVABLE. Arrived at Fitzy's at 7:50pm on a Saturday to get advised that the kitchen was closed. For a pub bistro to close so early on a Saturday night and with so few punters in the joint, I can't imagine that the current lessee will be there long. Idiots!!!
Sarah
Do yourself a favour and don't bother.<br/> Unprofessional, untrained floor staff who constantly walked past table without any acknowledgement even though it was obvious that we were more than ready to order. they also left table uncleared after entree.<br/>Food was substandard and way over priced.<br/>Whilst I understand that the restaurant is separate from the tavern the whole set up was confusing and disorganized with the number of bar staff on the floor who "have nothing to do with the food".<br/>We will not be going back, rather we will go to the Gate in Success which always has good food and excellent service
Kaz
Do yourself a favour, keep driving. Nothing remotely good to say about the food here.
Rebecca Breglia
Horrible food, horrible service. Every time they go we wait. Never have chilli mussels and way over priced. Pizzas are like yuck. Never sgain

Not Happy. Walked in at 5 minutes past 8pm to be be told the kitchen had closed. Not happy....
Mikeandnarelle
Poor Service. We were told on arrival that we needed to wait until our entire party had arrived before they would give us a menu. Reason was they didn't want to have to read out the specials more than once. Specials were actually written on a sheet of paper so I don't know what that was about. We waited over an hour and a half for meal to arrive. We watched as tables that arrived after us were served their meals and left before our meals arrived. People were being turned away from a half empty restaurant which was strange also. The food was ok but overpriced for the average quality.

Robert McNab. Went to Fitzy's a few weeks ago on a Sunday when real busy and had a fabulous meal. Went their tonight Wed 7th Aug not busy and we had our entree served about 3 minutes before our main meal arrived.. My Lamb shanks at $29 were Sheep Shanks (tough and tasteless) Fitzy's is a Hit and miss restaurant .
Brian Paolo

We wondered down around 1pm it was a lovely sunny day and the lake looked gorgeous that was the end of a truly great experience from then on things went down hill. A bit slow giving us our menu but we never received our food until 2.15pm I think that was too long to wait concidering the place wasn't busy. After eating the very ordinary food I had to go and ask for coffee I was told the machine was broken wouldn't be fix until Tuesday not happy about that one. Then I had to get up again and ask for the bill WT. There was a pleasant elderly gentleman running around telling the table staff what to do pointing everywhere, he should have gone behind the counter were the chef was and pointed to her to get a move on very disappointed with the whole thing won't be back
Kjones
Food good, service shocking. The food is fabulous, service by young kids and an overpowering old man is shocking. They couldn't get our bill right, and the way he treats his staff is embarrassing. Pricey. Ribs were lovely! Cocktails lovely!
Julie
Very friendly atmosphere... We had a meal at Fitzy's last night , the food and service was fantastic. Try the baby squid...Yummo!!!

Great Local. Took the family here for an early dinner on Sunday and must say the new management have done a fantastic job. New menu with great food and well priced for a local eatery. Child friendly so take the kids.<br/>Welcome back !

I hadn't been here for a while due to not being impressed with the food I heard it was under new management so thought I would try again. I'm so thrilled I did. The food and menus are brilliant generous servings. Couldn't fault the food full of favour meats n seafood cooked to perfection the service was wonderful too. Keep this up and I will keep coming back.

This place is under new management :) and the service is amazing :) the wait staff are great :) very friendly :) I had the chicken Parmy and it was the size of the plate and came with salad and wedges. My partner had the rump steak and it was so tender and full of flavour, they use MSA steak and proper chicken breast they crumb them selves. I would highly recommend this place for functions or a romantic dinner. And the wildlife are so friendly they come right up to the door. :) can't wait to come back and have dinner with my friends and family :) Thanx again for a great experience :)

Just grabbed a couple of Chicken Parmigianas for lunch and I must say we were both impressed considering the low rating.

Wow!!! What a massive improvement ten fold!! Have eaten here for lunch and dinner about a dozen times since beginning of January under the new management and chef!! Have been waiting to write my review to ensure the standard stays high! With new lunch and dinner menus being extremely appetizing and spot on every time for flavor and satisfaction... My family and I are glad to have there local back! Atmosphere and service have also improved extraordinary and very kid and family orientated! Especially love the desserts and the prices and always leaving way too full and overindulged!!

New Management, New Menu. A welcome change!. The management has changed hands again (Dec 2012), and what a welcome change it is! The prices are much more reasonable (only one main over $30), and the quality of the food is excellent. <br/><br/>We had garlic bread to start, which was nice though may be a little rich for some. It was hard to choose a starter because there were so many yummy options! We will be trying the potato skins topped with cheese and bacon next time, it looked tasty. Either that or the crumbed camembert, which is a personal favourite of mine. <br/><br/>For mains we ordered the Pork Meaty Spare Ribs ($25.50) and the 180gm Tenderloin Fillet ($29.50). The meat is provided from the South West, is aged 4-5 weeks and is Angus beef. And boy can you tell. The fillet was ordered medium, and it came out as such. The meat was tender, had so much flavour, and the pepper sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The Pork Ribs did indeed have lots of meat on them, and I got them accompanied by BBQ sauce (Home made with vegetables), mashed potato and garden salad. The salad was fresh and the mashed potato was good. <br/><br/>There has also been changes to the dessert menu, and we tried two new additions, the Honey Bees (Honeycomb gelato encased in chocolate with a honeycomb fudge centre), and the Cointreau Orange (Cointreau gelato encased in chocolate). In hindsight we could have shared one as they were large, but both were very good. <br/><br/>As it has only just gone to the new management there are a few kinks in the service, which is to be expected when new staff are being trained, but I'm sure this will be ironed out in time. There was great service from the bar staff, and the cook was happy to answer questions about the menu. <br/><br/>We hadn't been to Fitzy's for a while due to the changes that occurred in 2011, but we are really glad we went back. <br/><br/>If this is your local pub and haven't been there in a while, give it another chance. We would like to see it stay the way it is now, so support your local!

Mixed emoticons :-) :-{. Having recently been informed by friends of the change of chef/management of the restaurant we cautiously trekked back to Fitzy's last night for the first time in 3 years. The new regime being of East Asian descent has altered the menu to include Asian style dishes alongside the traditional Aussie favorites. <br/><br/>I decided to stick with the traditional steak chips and salad and ordered a Scotch Fillet med-rare. My wife was a little more adventurous opting for the Lamb korma off the specials menu. We ordered chicken nuggets and a kids beef burger for the rug rats. <br/><br/>My steak was a little disappointing as it was over cooked, more med-done that med-rare. The pepper sauce had an interesting Asian flavour to it that I couldn't quite identify. Nice though. <br/><br/>The Korma was 'interesting but tasty'. Not a traditional Indian style Korma, rather an East Asian take on the dish. (More like a Thai curry than Indian.) Though according to my wife, thoroughly enjoyable. The chicken nuggets were battered and deep fried as opposed to crumbed, a little weird for my son who likes his food to be 'as expected'. The kid’s burger contained a decent beef burger pattie with melted cheese in a decent sized bun. Chips weren't bad though you got the feeling they could change the oil in the deep fryers a little more often.<br/><br/>I found the service to be pretty good though it wasn't exactly packed with diners. The Asian Maitre 'd could have looked a little happier to see us. All in all a fairly average dining experience.

I liked it but.... I have been to Fitzy's twice now. The first time was with a group of friends who were all happy with their meals, especially my boyfriend who finally got his steak cooked the way he likes it. The second time we came just us two and he got theseafood salad. For $30 we got a handful of salad with about 3 prawns and 3 scallops, we were not too impressed. My meal was amazing though and dessert was lovely.

Not recomended. Went here with some friends and the staff were rude and rushy and i ordered rump steak and was given t-bone and was told the t-boke was a rump steak like i was a friggen retard. Chips were old and stale.

Fantastic. We went for dinner at Fitzys last night (party of 4 and a toddler) and i cant rave enough about the food. each meal was cooked beautifully with very generous portions ( Even the two grown men could not finish their meals).<br/>I chose the grilled chicken with white wine and mushroom sauce, it was nothing short of spectacular!<br/>the flavours were delicious from the first to last bite.<br/><br/>We will definitely be returning again very soon, i encourage you all to give it a try!

Stay away!. Took one look at the menu and saw the price. Beer was flat from the tap. The sports bar had some womens talk show on instead of the footy. Took two sips of my drink and left.

Mothers Day failure. Family booked 11 of us in for a Mothers Lunch. We ordered in three separate tabs and my brothers family, the last to order, started to receive their food. An hour or so later the 6 of us who hadn't eaten started to get hungry. At 2.15pm we got one or two meals with no explanation from staff as to what had happened. When they were questioned they walked away and refused to explain. The meals were all the same, same sauce piled over everything including overcooked chips. The lowest moment was my Dad ordering a Fillet surf and turf for $38 and ( an hour and half later) getting a piece of low quality meat, no fillet, not even a sirloin parading as a fillet. When he questioned it they said the chef is to busy to talk. My Dads a butcher and refused to be ripped off by these thieving restaurateurs so he asked for a refund. It was over priced low class food that could have been improved on by Hungry Jacks. Service and quality of food was incredibly bad for the price.

Not worth trying the expensive crocodile, but.... Nothing wrong with this place, i've been there three times and liked it.<br/>Really appreciated their soft serve: amazing.<br/><br/>Good ambiance and prices are not so bad, compared to other places.

Absolute rip-off - terrible experience. Where do I start? Meals were not nice at all and completely overpriced considering the poor quality and the location, sauces were like water, chips were rock hard, some portions were small, mains were not all served together but within a one hour interval, what they claim to be a crocodile steak was in fact little slices of chicken, table was dirty with some old food completely dry stuck to it, entree was litteraly thrown on the table and part of it fell of the plate but staff could not care less and just walked away, part of the order never came out, the manager was rude when we complained basically telling us to go away and turning her back on us. Overall one of the worst dining experience we had in a long time. Don't waste your time and money there.
Catherine
AWFUL!!!!. My family went to Fitzy's for a birthday dinner on the 28 th of April 2012. I would strongly advise that you never go there! It was an absolute disgrace. The food was disgusting and extremely over-priced. (All meals were covered in very watery sauces, the chips were unedible, some food didn't even come and the presentation was appalling) We let the manager know of our dissapointment and to our total surprise she couldn't have cared less infact she just walked away from us as we were speaking to her, very very rude!!

Great!!. I've been to Fitzys twice in the last month. Absolutely loved it. Sat outside - the service was excellent, the menu is really comprehensive, easy to order from and the food was terrific. Good size serves. Would like to compliment the chef. Keep up the good work!!

Good value!. We had not been to Fitzy's before and went because it's close and we wanted to try it. We went on a Monday night, usually a slow night for restaurants and generally no need to book. We were very impressed, service was very good, meals came out together and the meals themselves were absolutely delicious. I had the crocodile which came with prawns, scallops and calamari and it was superb. Cooked just right with a light sauce that blended with the subtle flavours without overpowering them. I would have it again! Good servings too. And even though it's not a chinese reataurant - I really loved the fortune cookies. They were a nice finishing touch to a really good meal. We will be back and recommend Fitzy's to our friends.

Loved it Great food Cold beer good service And fed six adults and a child with lots of pints and a bottle of wine for $300
Sarah
No thanks. My partner and I visited here for dinner and we were very disappointed with the food. Small portions for the amount of money charged.
Kristin Lee
Fitzy's Lakeside is bad. Not a fan after tonight an hour wait on entree's there was 30 minutes between only 2 entree dishes and then another hour wait for mains of which there was 1 of 2 that was forgotten
Angela
My partner & I went for a meal this evening & I can't say I'm a fan. Our entrees were bought out separately, 10 minutes apart, and same for the mains. I ordered my scotch fillet steak 'medium' and received it very well done. The 'mushroom sauce' was a standard beef gravy with a few mushrooms added. The table was dirty & annoyingly wobbly... I understand that it's not fine dining - but I feel that they should charge less to reflect this. It just wasn't worth it in my opinion.

Has definitely improved recently, it's worth a second chance! I really enjoyed the food and the service was very attentive

Awesome NEW Management. If you haven't tried Fitzy's in a while (pre September 2011) - you need to try it again. The meals are nothing short of sensational.<br/><br/>I must recommend The Flinstone - a 700g monster of a steak which they seem to cook perfectly as requested each time! It is the best steak I have had in a Perth restaurant in years. Costs $40, but worth every cent.<br/><br/>Friendly staff. Perfect meals and a great location. It has certainly surpassed The Gate now. For food and price at least.<br/><br/>Miss the Kids room - has been moved to a set of Game Consoles in the dining area.<br/><br/>Also would be better if they changed some of their tap beers and mixed it up a bit more.<br/><br/>But top marks from me!
Momoko
Liked it!. Delicious food - my steak was cooked perfectly! Fabulous service. Definitely coming back!

New Management. 14th October 2011<br/><br/>We have been frequenting Fitzys Family Restaurant for the past 4years. During this time it has been managed by various people and the quality of the food and service has been average to poor. <br/><br/>Finally under this new management we have actually enjoyed our first meal here at Fitzys.<br/> <br/>My partner and I both ordered a dozen fresh South Australian oysters (natural) which tasted like they had just been taken from the sea and were of a good size. This was refreshing as many other oysters we have had at other restaurants have been substandard (i.e. small and not fresh). <br/>We then ordered as our main meals the Neptune Lobster which consisted of fresh north west tiger prawns, scallops, crumbed squid and half a lobster grilled to perfection with a lemon butter sauce, also it came with sides of steamed vegetables and potatoes, alternatively you could have had salad and chips.<br/><br/>The whole meal consisted of fresh ingredients and this was evident from the first mouth full right to the last.<br/><br/>The waiting time on the entree and the main meal were of a good time and we were not left waiting too long even though the restaurant was filled to three quarter capacity. The waiting staff still managed to make sure we were catered to at all times.<br/><br/>The only criticism we have was the small amount of time we had to wait to be seated. This aside it was well worth waiting for.<br/><br/>We recommend to all past diners who have had unpleasant dining experiences at Fitzys to try again as you would find the quality and improvement of the food and service much more pleasurable. As for people yet to dine at Fitzys both my partner and I recommend it.
Elyodnanoc
Under new management. Run by a family that I think don't really have any experience to run a restaurant. They don't have enough menus, so we have to share one menu between two. No proper red wine glasses. Obviously they try save on staffing by calling the inexperience family members to wait the tables. Definitely need restaurant management 1ol - they'd be better if they just let the staff run it. The wine list is average but affordable. The Hawaiian chicken taste more like chinese crispy vinegar chicken topped up with bacon and pineapple. While my scotch fillet was cooked medium rare as requested, I could taste that the meat had been frozen before so it had no real flavor. You can see their way of saving cost has compromise the service and the quality of the food.
Chris T.
Expensive for what you get, worth a try though.

Getting it wrong. A small pub well outside of Fremantle in a bad area needs to be outstanding to pull in the customers. Unfortunately for Fitzy's they aren't. From the beginning, the clunky menu leads the way and it goes downhill from there(Chicken Filet Mingon anyone?). The food is poorly executed and the prices are ridiculously high given both the quality and location. You're left wondering how they stay in business, the owners and head chef would do well to take a trip to some of Perth's good pubs to see how it's done well (and then review their pricing accordingly - conservatively it's 30% overpriced)<br/><br/>The service was good, but that might be attributed more to the lack of customers.<br/><br/>My recommendation would be to keep on driving to Fremantle where you'll probably pay less and enjoy the food a lot more.
Muttman
Deteriorated. Been there with my family and extended family about 5 times, and each time the service and food seemed to diminish in quality. What started out with promise has unfortunately not been maintained. Prices are mid-range and serving sizes are about right. Issues with service, cleanliness and atmosphere have kept us and extended family away.<br/>They have a kids room on the side, making it family friendly, however the last time we were there only 2 of the 4 video consoles were working, and there was no drawing paper / pencils to amuse the littlies.

Crap so much potential but always disappoints last time I will ever eat here. When I pay 21dollars for chilli mussels I expect bread to mop up the sauce not pay an extra two bucks for side that should be served with dish.the menu is old and boring I can cook steak at home I can cook pasta at home the pizza toppings are boring and very oily I wouldn't eat here again if my life depended on it.
