Review The Bird - Perth

Christian Martinez
Manager is an a**hole who has no reason or repsect for it’s patrons. Multiple people were climbing in the trees and slight ledges that were used to gain height over the excessive amount of smoke and when I did so he told me to get down which I did immediately (mind you I wasn’t In the tree but a slight ledge). I complied with his request being sober and of coherence and was forcefully removed even after then manager said we could chat and what seemed to reasonable opportunity to conversation He had zero respect or decorum and neglected to address the countless others who had been doing the same. Don’t ever go here especially if it’s your friends birthday

Zero customer service. The wine I ordered was literally half poured onto the counter. When I pointed it out she told me it was because she was really hungover, and she couldn't top up my glass because she had measured it and it apparently wasnt her fault that most of it missed the wine glass. 😳. Smallest serving of wine I've ever received in my life.

Love the place, the live music was simply terrific! Outstanding! Maybe because we went when they were playing 2 jazz groups on the Perth International Festival... anyway it is a great spot! I would definitely check for live music in this place. Good drinks, but check if there is an entrance fee, cash only!

AMAZIMG live bands, lovely venue. Beautiful indoor and outdoor areas, affordable drinks and loads of options, no entry fees and gorgeous art throughout. My favourite bar in Perth.

I was served by James today and he was such an amazing bar tender. Made me feel super welcome and helped me pick the right wine to drink. Super friendly and laid back but also professional. Thank you James for a great experience! Also on another note, the messages about safety in the bathroom were so great to see and the information provided was excellent. I'll definitely be coming back for some more relaxed and friendly vibes. Thanks Bird!

Was told I was to drunk to enter, I’d been working all day an drunk 5 bush chooks. I’ve worked in hospitality for over 15 years and never seen such weak customer service.

Great atmosphere saw The Manic Gig and totally enjoyed the experience.Staff friendly and bar inviting.

Cool venue with a great vibe. Love that local artists are supported here.
Queen Of Bad Timing
Kicking off in late January 2019 is Cellar Door Sundays at The Bird Mess Hall in Northbridge. The guys here have teamed up with some of Australia’s best wineries to bring cellar doors out of wine country into the city. How it works: each Sunday we’ll see a new winery pop up in the space to showcase their wines and wares. Most weekends this will be kickstarted with a long table lunch that includes careful wine pairings (tickets available on The Bird’s website), before tastings with the producer that will also be available to members of the public. The chefs behind the food will be rotated each week, meaning no cellar door experience will be like any other.

Love the variety and the gluten free cakes are delicious and big in portions. The coffee is good. It is one of my favourite breakfast places around the area.

Cool young crowd, occasional cover charge and bands, but that doesn’t stop me. One of the better espresso martinis around and sweet summer cocktails on offer too.

Everything I’ve tried from their small but solid food menu have proven to be of decent value and also flavoursome. Affordable drinks on rotation, fresh live music almost on the daily, what more can I ask for?

Look past your first impressions as you walk past this little gem! The shabby couches at the front make way for a gorgeous and quirky garden seating area out the back!
Well worth a visit. The hand cut chips were out of this world! Hope they can keep this consistent. The Pork Bao was fine and we enjoyed the Buffalo Wings.
Great catch up spot for shares and a few beers!
Very "Melbourney".

I had been meaning to drink at The Bird for some time and I now know why it's so revered. The back courtyard was pumping and transported me back to Melbourne. The delicious espresso martini helped too!

The bird is a friggin awesome when the music is your cup of tea.. hip hop kara'yo'ke is such a great time, bad rap and it's pretty hilarious and good rap you're yelling for more. Cool, kitschy, basic decor - church pews, cosy outside area with a couple of couches. It's got a cool, easygoing vibe that sets you up to have a great night 👍🏼

The Bird has escaped me till now, but having theatre ticket in the pocked, this little bar was on the cards for some pre-drinks and a quick bite. The space is fairly dark with lounge chair in the front, and then a row of what looks like recycled church pews. We waited at the counter till someone arrived, who apologised for the wait, and took our order. We went with a glass of the Shiraz each, and since I didn’t have any lunch I ordered the classic, approachable, beef burger. Drinks arrived quickly and I enjoyed my glass, but my companion thought the Shiraz was a little took acidic to her liking; perhaps it needed longer cellaring to mellow. My burger arrived in a cardboard box and wrapped in paper. Unwarping the packaged revealed a hefty burger, and one bite I was in burger heaven. The beef patty was perfectly cooked, and the accompaniments and sauce were excellent. It was a great burger, and would have no hesitation coming back.

Always love coming to The Bird. The warm comfortable atmosphere it provides with great staff and a cozy interior makes it a great place to come. George, one of the bartenders always has a smile on his face and has great customer service. They also now serve super tasty modern/vietnamese food, including my favourites the lamb boa, sticky pork bahn mi and shoestring fries!

First time going to the bird, was arround William waiting for someone and decided to head in for a light lunch as I know the sous chef at young love mess hall which should be opening within a few months, and they cook for the bird. Food was quite cheap with everything including beer costing $30, and a nice variety on their small menu.

The creamy corn jacks, they were served with ailoi I'm pretty sure and were just to die for, a kind of fried croquette with a hint of curry and spice in them and nice and corny but not over the top. A sticky pork banh mi, lovely light salad ontop, lots crispy bits of lovely caramelised pork which was nice and saucy but not too much, and nice slightly toasted white roll, perfect combo.

And a schooner of ferral hop hog, which had a nice head and wonderful flavour.

Great place for a quick lunch and something to drink.

Fairly disappointing the way we were treated, although the venue had a great vibe up until that point...
There was a reasonable number of us, probably 10-12 with a pretty equal gender mix, and the seating didn't really support that many, which left a good 5 or so of us always standing. Unfortunately even though there were maybe only another 10 -15 people in the place as we had arrived quite early, the barman seemed to have made some preconceptions about the type of group, or size (or length of hipster beard, or height of topknot) or something because for about an hour before we left, having only been there an hour before, he barated us about our volume, removed chairs we were sitting on and inexplicably cut service to one group member as he attempted to get his first drink of the evening. I'm glad we met at 6:30 because we were gone by 7:30 and will never return. Definitely not a place to meet for birthday drinks!

No food here but a great spot to do a bit of unpretentious chilling. No bells and whistles just Perths best espresso martinis and home to some of the better more elective gigs.

Great. This place may look narrow and dark as you first come in, it is actually a very warm and cosy place. Cheap beers, nice atmosphere, outside sitting for the smokers, it's got everything you need for a nice and relaxing evening

Pathetic!. Came here for a night with mates. Waited for over half an hour before being served. The quality was poor, overpriced, crappy service and above all ill-mannered staff!! Definitly not recommending to anyone. Better off spending your money elsewhere.

Worst experience EVER!. Traveler from Melbourne
Lousy service. Rude and arrogant staff.
Would not recommend or visit again.

Haiku review. Tiny dilemma
Teeth grind, is very hipster
But I like the place

Loved it. Visiting from melbourne for the weekend, I was directed to northbridge and felt right at home walking around the whole area. Started off at bird bar, and can recommend it highly if you like dark places to hide and watching hipsters play themselves. I got here at a quiet time and was able to take up a chair for quite some time. Has a grungy beer garden as well.

The Bird. Another pretentious wanker hipster hangout...

Saturday arvo drinks. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my uncle & partner & were served by Tanya. We asked her what drinks she liked best & ended up getting what she recommended, which was the apple crumble & french martini cocktails. These were incredible! Staff were all friendly & patient & I will definitely be back here again

Overpriced. Staff was pretty rude. It was packed, so our group was standing the only place we could, near the door. One the staff members rudely told us to not "be stupid by standing near the door". this was just after paying a ridiculous entry fee. The crowd is pretty poor too- bunch of hipsters who have a pretty bad, "too cool" attitude acting like hippies yet walking around in designer clothes. To put it simply, I think there are thousands of bars in Perth which would be a better option than the bird. Don't waste your time or money!

Never Had a Bad Bar Attendant. Every staff member here has been friendly, and interesting to chat to! I love the vibe of this place, though at times it can get a little cramped. Regardless its one of my favourite places to share a casual cider with friends!
Ugo
Stingy. I ordered a GnT. It was served in a short glass. I asked for them to switch it to a tall glass and top it up with some more tonic. They advised it would be an additional 50 cents for the extra tonic. I wanted to say something rude and offensive to the bar maid, but I didn't.

Came here to see Will Stoker which was a great gig. Good range of beers and I was shocked to get change from $10 for a little creatures pint.

Loved it. Stumbled across this bar Friday night and was rapt to do so. 3 out of 3 cool cool bands and great vibe. From Melbourne so felt very at home.

A little pretentious - but still a top place.. I've been here a few times at different times of the day. It usually pretty quiet during the day but does ramp up quickly and ends up being quite crowded in the afternoons onwards - especially on weekends! Decent selection of beers, standard prices and pretty nice staff each time I have been.

Lot's of cool urban hipsters there, but I guess I rather be surrounded by pretentious liberal arts students rather than roid-raging, v-neck shirt idiots as is common at most other Northbridge venues on weekend nights!

I suggest to try the Matsos Ginger Beer, ask for it in a tall glass with mint and ice! Very refreshing on a hot summers afternoon.

Great. Fabulous martinis!

Hipster central. Full of pseudos and girls who dress for girls... bar tenders are selected not because of their ability but for their looks (read: cute/twee for girls; and hipsterish/straight outta williamsburg for the guys). cool music venue and drinks aren't overpriced. the staff for all their scene-ish prowess are super friendly. an enjoyable place for a g&t

Fun and frivolous. Love the Bird - especially that one Thursday of every month when they hold Hip Hop Karaoke. Such a funfilled night. After 5 glasses of red wine you'll be up on that stage like you're a member of Wu-tand Clan!

So much fun!. Every time I go to the Bird I always drink way too many ciders. Also, the house white at the moment was really nice so I unfortunately bought 5 of them, and therefore was really quite drunk, but I guess this is a good thing.
Casual
Pleasant Little Bar.... Nice spot for a quiet drink, although it suffers from the safe problem as other small bars, namely that when it gets busy it's painful. Still definatly worth a look, I usually slip in in the early afternoon for a sneaky gin.
Pris
Nice and good music on certain days. Nice place for a drink. Not sure if they made an effort to make it look really informal and 'rough' but it is and I think that makes this place more comfy than most pretentious bars...
Terrine De Lapin
Like the cocktails here & friendly staff

This was a great place to spend a chilled Sunday arvo with friends, drinking Little Creatures bright ale & listening to a fabulous live jazz band. The outdoor area at the back is a good place to hang out & chat under the city skyline.

Considering Perth’s love of street food, it’s surprising that the pop-up restaurant wave took so long in reaching our shores. But arrive it has. And at the crest of it is Basic Needs – a pop-up restaurant taking place every Thursday this winter in The Bird’s cosy courtyard in Northbridge. The epicurean force behind the pop-up is Bobby the Baker, a 21-year-old best known for his famous “cakiepops” (cake on a stick – genius!), multi-coloured cupcakes and other sweet treats he’s sold at markets and festivals around Perth. But you’ll find more than sweetness at Basic Needs. Bobby has ventured into the realm of the savoury, offering dishes like Crispy Bocconcini with marinara, Baked Potato Skins with Beef Hash and Prosciutto-Bundled Chicken with Potted Stilton in a Bap (pictured above). In other words, warming food that goes great with a beer and live music, both of which are in steady supply at the Bird. Bobby describes the Basic Needs menu as everyday food with a twist. “It’s basic foods
