We have been traveling around all capital city. This is the First Malaysian food we ate in Australia which was excellent and taste authentic. Met the friendly chef who is from Malaysia. Most of all we couldn't bilife the cost was quite cheap. Will do very well if were to opened other place in city. Genuine Malaysian Food
The food here is good, honest, humble food. The quality has remained the same throughout the life of the business. The owners are welcoming and very helpful. The review saying worst customer service is BS!
3.8 rating
Sup kambing $10 was yummy, apparently it runs out really quick.
$1.50 vadai is ok because it was rather small and cold. It did satisfy my cravings.
$16.50 large banana leaf plate of rice with curries including lamb shank - was a large portion though the shank was very tough. Curries and flavours were good.
$15.50 paper tosai and extra serve of goat curry (not in the pictures) was superb. Super spicy goat curry was soft and falling off the bones.
Will I return ? Yes! But maybe for takeaway because ventilation isn't great and I smelt like fish curry for the rest of the day!
Loved the briyani and goat curry here. We also had the chicken varuval which was very tasty. The roti canai was also very tasty, extremely well made and with brilliant flavours. As a fan of roti canai it gladens me whenever I find a place that does it well, even though it's a fairly simple dish it's extremely easy to get it wrong.
We were recommended this place by a friend and I would recommend it to anyone as well.
Very authentic Malaysian mamak foods. Lots of spices and when they mean spicy, it is spicy. Worth the price you paid.
Love this indian cuisine place. Really yummy and authentic. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and really chatty. Big portion and reasonably priced. But be warned, spicy means spicy so opt for something milder if you can't take the heat!
Oh my god! Absolutely delicious the food here. We had the biryani rice with some chicken curry. Lamb murtabak, and egg roti. There was spice and kick to the curries, and it tasted so homey and really authentic. The kopi tarik also was tasty! Definitely coming back for more!
Absolutely amazing food! I was thoroughly impressed! What I liked the most was the attention to detail when it came to spices and individual flavours. The flavours were very rich and varied but well balanced too. Just wish there was a bit of sambal to enhance the heat, but the lime chutney was really good too!
Firstly, let me add that I eat halal and given this place has certification I trust that the food is indeed halal. I don't think the owners are but they don't serve alcohol which is a plus.
Food is tasty, that is if you like spicy food. The curry portions are disappointingly small. I would prefer they served larger proportions. Still worth a try if you like your curries and Malaysian food. The staff are friendly.
The general décor is ordinary so could do with an uplift in standards and cleanliness.
Overall not a bad choice for a reasonably priced meal in the area.
Having tried a variety of dishes from their extensive menu, I can safely say that it is a hit and miss with this restaurant. Some dishes are consistently average whereas the others are good. The Chicken Varuval by far is their best dish. Other good dishes to try are their dosas (all varieties are good), idlli, vadai, fried fish and lamb curry. The one to stay away from is their roti prata. The plain prata is good with some sort of curry but the ones with a filling are completely bland. One thing I have to mention is that their prices are extremely expensive and a complete rip off. Nevertheless, do give their dosas a try as you can't find better ones anywhere else in Perth.
All this for around $14!! So good. Ordered my favorite mutton curry, assortment of Chinese veggies, chicken, egg & tofu and Britain rice. They also come with the crispy cracker at the side (pappadum?) which is pretty good as well. Hands down my fav place in Perth for South Indian food. They have really good prata as well (but depends on the chef actually)
THE BEST EVERRR!! GUARANTEED!!! CHEAP & TASTY!!!. I am a huge fan of South Indian food, and let me tell you, this place is by far, hands down, d most amazing "tummylicious" Malaysian Indian Food you will ever, EVER get in PERTH! From my first visit since i usually have regular cravings for their food at least once a week. Feels like i've been DRUGGED but who cares i'm lovin it right?!
Try Out the Chicken Varuval-My Personal Fav (its spicy) , spicy goats curry, fried fish! Have not really tried d others...
Rice, 1 selection of Meat dish, 2 Vege's and Papadam = AUD 10.00 - Fills ur tummy to the brim! What a bargain!
The coffee(AUD 3.50) was amazing on the first few visits HOWEVER the taste was inconsistent thereafter.
As long as i reside i Perth, i'll definitely make this spot my first choice for Malaysian Indian Food.
Most authentic Malaysian Indian you can find in Perth. Beautiful teh tarik.
Love the food but service is always a disappointment. Makes me lose appetite whenever the girls serve customers with such sour faces and with a "not bothered" attitude. Only go for the food but expect some ice cold service.
The best teh Tarik!!! Keep coming back for more!
Tosai, chicken varuval & teh tarik....fantastico.
Yummy!. Honest to goodness Malaysian Indian food...
It's been more than 3 years since I've been to this spot as both my wife and I thought the previous business had closed and thus did not know that Bala had taken over the lease and now runs Rasa Sayang Cafe serving real value Malaysian Indian food.
We went for lunch today around noon and as soon as I walked in, I could smell the curries and briyani - a very good sign. The nice young lady explained to us how the menu worked and my wife ordered the Masala Thosai while I had to get my Chicken Briyani fix after all the nostalgic spice scents that had wafted through the cafe when I first walked in.
My Chicken Briyani order was the 'Choice of 1 meat and vegetables' for $10, comes with a large papadum and was served on a plate shaped like a banana leaf. That was more than enough for a big eater like me but hungry people may go for the 2 or even 3 meats option. The main aspect of Briyani is the rice and this was soft and fluffy but full of great flavour. Thumb up! I had picked the 'hottest' chicken and it was fabulous! Real spice here that marinated the chicken and was cooked to perfection. If I'm honest, I'd prefer more fleshy cuts with less bone but this was exactly the same as when I was in KL.
My wife's Masala Thosai arrived in a few minutes and was a good size - well protruding off both sides of her plate. This was filled with a delicious combination of peas, carrots, corn, potatoes, curry leaves and spices! With two curries for dipping that came with the plate, she thought it was more than enough and reported the Thosai was
very nice. We learnt later that we could have taken from any of the curries laid out on the right side of the counter!
We are going back tomorrow night to try their Soup Kambing, Teh Tarik and Teh Halia. Oh and on the weekend, we're going to try their Roti Canai, Nasi Lemak and Vadai!
Simply awesome. I'm from Malaysia, and I can say hands down this is the best place I've been so far in Perth that offers good authentic KL indian style Tucker. It's a no frills, good honest and flavoursom meal at a reasonable price.ummm reminds me of home... Rasa sayang eh rasa sayang sayang eh..:)
Went on thurs evening, no large crowd so we got our food pretty quickly. Had plain and onion&egg roti, they were good! Teh Tarik was authentic too, like those u get in Msia. Quite an extensive menu! Would go back
Authentic and Tasty Food. Good food and decent prices.Love the fish curry and also the fried fish...My hubby's favourite is the dried chicken curry. This place is awesome, reminds me of Malaysia/Singapore...
If you're after a meal at the ritz, then this is not the place but if you want wholesome authentic quality food that's full of favour, be sure to give this joint a go! Amazing flavours that complement each other! Friendly owners!
Yummy home cooked food. This little gem of a place is where I frequent when I am craving home cooked Malaysian Indian food. Tastes good, portions are huge and it's pretty cheap too.
Best Biryani. Do yourself a favour and go to Spencer Village and next to the bakery is the best curry house in WA.
Ask for a biryani and pick a curry or two from the range in the bain marie, add some veggies and top it off with some pickles and a papadum. Curry lovers will experience an epiphany.
The problem is now you will just want to keep on coming back.
Expect the unexpected but don't expect a vindaloo....
Best Malaysian Indian Food. It is known that a home cook meal is always the best meal a person could have and after eating at Rasa Sayang Cafe, you would feel that way because it is the Best place you can go for the Best Authentic Malaysian Indian Food in Perth. It is a unique and satisfying experience anyone could have after a superb meal. Compliment to the Chef for the Best Indian Malaysian Food!!!!!
Good food but..... The chef, Bala is a good cook and there are no complaints about his food. Its authentic Msian Indian cooking. The portions however are really sad, esp when you do a takeaway. The female staff esp do not apportion the food well, the food isnt cheap and so you'd expect proper portions. The chef when serving does a much better job. Love the food but hate he portions !

Great M'sian Indian food. It is definetly one of the best I've had in Perth. Authentic Malaysian Indian cooking. Bala the cook is a friendly chap and great customer service.
Best Malaysian Indian Food in Perth. Been there many times, food is great and value for money. If you feel like having fantastic south indian food then this is the place.
If u like malaysian indian cuisine.. This is by far the BEST in perth!! Super awesome.. I go home dreaming of Balan's curry..MMmmmmm'm
For the best Southern Indian food in Perth, this is the place!!!. You just have to look at the crowds that come in. They're Asians, they're white Australians. For too long when it comes to Indian food, people think of the Northern Indian/British fare - chicken tikka, butter chicken etc.
This is South Indian food here and it's South Indian food with BALLS! That is, it's not watered down or Australianized. It's the real thing that puts hairs on your chest and lead in your pencil :-).
I'd recommend the murtabak, the chicken paratal and the chicken varuval. In fact anything either ala carte or bain marie is delicious. And the best part is that it's not over priced at all. Bit of a drive to Thornlie perhaps but I know people who drive to here from Fremantle!
And lastly, no, this is an unbiased opinion, I'm not related to anyone in the cafe at all.
Food was pretty nice & authentic.
Roti was a bit chewy & Teh Tarik was too sweet to my liking. The cafe is a bit grubby & high chairs needs to be replaced as there were broken ones there.
More photos were added. Chef Bala told he started this restaurant 12 years ago. He was a chef from Subang Jaya of Malaysia. The curry goat was fresh and tasty. I liked the Teh Tarik (hot bubble milk tea) here. With the noise and the TV sports games on, this place made me felt like as if I was sitting in a Mamak restaurant in South East Asia. (2021-08)
Instead of a real banana leaf, Rasa Sayang uses a big banana leaf plastic plate to serve. It does not have a traditional potable three or four curry serving containers for you to pour on the rice. The curry lamb and curry fish are nice. The Parata is crispy and not so fluffy. You can choose mild or spicy curry as you wish. (2021-03)
Best dhosa especially the onion and egg, ask for a few drops of ghee, and ask the expert dhosa maker aka Phav to make it crispy.
This is the best place on Earth to eat this kind of authentic food in our wonderful Perth weather!! I mean eating in South East Asia, you are sweating bullets as penance while enjoying curry rice, roti or mixed altogether. Right here the flavors bring you right back to the source but more importantly the produce we have in Australia is the highest standards. The guys cook with so much soul and the spices are humming along.
Truly amazing food and you cannot go wrong with the food selection, because everything is great!
The price is also super reasonable. If you want a real true experience, this is the spot.
I highly recommend everything, notably the goat curry, this was epic!
pretty good feed at a decent price during lunchtime on the weekdays - briyani (or plain rice) with whatever dishes they have on that day. taste is pretty good, but quantity could do with a bit more. staff here are pretty friendly too.
This restaurant is an Institution for Malaysians and lovers of good south indian fair. I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years now and have nevet hadthe quality drop. The portion aizes are generous and the family that runs it treats us like one of their own.
