Review Cafe Vinyl - Perth

Sydney cafés and bakeries please take note: THIS is how you do a great muffin. Small soft base and a *huge* (almost 140mm diameter!) firm muffin top. Oh, and check out the rich seam of peanut butter. Great staff and good coffee.

I drink black coffee with no sugar, which isn’t very forgiving but I’ve always had good coffee. Other places over extract or add boiling water to the espresso but not here. Friendly, fast service as, bonus

If your looking for the best quality coffee in Perth, don't go past Cafe Vinyl. They get pretty busy but with good reason, its worth the wait. You get quality service as well with a friendly smile. A1!!

Good coffee good service. It's just a little hole in the wall coffee shop so not a great place for an out of the office meeting but it's a great place to grab a good coffee or a muffin on the way to a meeting in the area.

Reasonable coffee, on par or slightly better than the Perth norm. The food is pretty solid as well. Fantastic service, great music & always super friendly.

I used to love going here but for the last month or so they've only carried meat options with pork. I'm not sure why they'd make that decision when so many people don't eat it, but there are a lot of great places nearby at least.

Great coffee, atmosphere and customer service. There were alot of people waiting and he personally came over and gave us our takeaway coffee. Plus loved the music.

A big statement but probably the best coffee and service in perth!! Love the guys here and make a point of detouring past this place between meetings.

Quaint hole in the way cafe that has everything you'd want for brekkie, lunch or an arbitrary snack. COFFEE - average, on the bitter side. MUFFINS - Extra large muffins that will fill the belly. Blueberry is the best. RAW BALLS - great selection of raw balls made in-house.

Not even worth a rate.  The customer service from the young female staff member today was absolutely disgusting!  Never go there again!  So many other wonderful cafes around that area, so dont waste your time there.

Love a 5 star find in the city. <br/><br/>Now I have a shortlist (and fortuitously all geographically co-located in a similar area).<br/><br/>Vinyl is a small 'hole in the wall' on Hay Street, which has a fair cult following, judging by the morning masses clamouring for caffeine!!<br/><br/>I joined them and was not disappointed. <br/><br/>The service, a little slow at the start, made up for it with the 'we don't need your name, we will bring you your coffee' routine. Of which I am a massive fan. <br/><br/>And with just, possibly, maybe, almost, the slightest hint of that weird Perth bitter phenomenon, the coffee was superb!<br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit....<br/><br/>The also have MASSIVE muffins which (having sampled previously) I can tell you rival even those exceptional ones from a certain place close by.........<br/><br/>So...in the spirit of the place...'Wake me up before you go go!'<br/><br/>

This little coffee shop is always busy whenever I walked pass. Hubby wanted to try their coffee on the weekend. Unfortunately it's lacking balance between coffee and chocolate. Coffee was weak and tasted more like a hot chocolate drink. Might give their white coffee a go next time and see if it's better.

Was walking past in the morning and saw that it was fairly busy. Thought i would see what they were queueing up over. Its a small takeaway coffe bar, trendy record vibe. They sell food there and their muffins are basically small cakes, they are massive! Coffee is fairly nice with a good strong flavour and the staff happy and quick service!

I think I found my new go to coffee shop in the city! It's hard to get a soy coffee nice and hot (most baristas think they'll burn it...)... But I managed to get a tasty, hot coffee today! Reasonably priced for the quality of the coffee. I'll be back!

Best coffee around. Having tried everything in the area I can say this is the best coffee around, amazing flavour profile, always changing their single origins and my fav the "special blend" but what keeps me coming back the most is the friendly atmosphere, they know my name they know my coffee. Did I mention amazing food too!

This place was fab!. Delicious chocolaty mocha – we had to wait awhile as a huge crowd mobbed them just before we arrived. It was definitely worth the wait. The muffins looked amazing, might need to get one some time soon.

Really liked the coffee. Exceptional!

Friendly service, bad coffee. Tried this place for the first time today. Never had a takeaway coffee this bad, even McDonalds coffee is better! My coffee was sour, maybe they used expired milk.

5 Senses is usually great coffee but today it was lackluster. No taste. Maybe over heated or unfiltered water but disappointing. <br/><br/>No creme on the coffee so they drowned it. <br/><br/>I had a small long black. <br/><br/>Would I go back? Not for a while. Too many other places to try.

Great crew, always a happy smile. Flat white wrapped up!!! Best way to start the day

Great coffee always and great service always. Well done Aaron!!

Muffins!. Never had a coffee here, but I believe my boss goes everyday, which must be a godo thing. I've started to go for the muffins - for $4 you get a huge muffin. They have small bottoms are large crusty tops, so you get extra crunchy muffin tasty-ness. Got the raspberry and white chocolate today and some of the choc have melted and formed some kind of delicious caramel goo at the bottom of the muffin.<br/> <br/>Made my morning!

Great coffee with friendly and fast service. The cappuccino is my favorite.

Staff greeted me with a smile and the coffee I ordered was made fast and was good.

Great service great cuppa and a muffin to die for thanks for a great experience I will be back

Deeeee-lish. Best coffee I.... Deeeee-lish. <br/>Best coffee I have had in a while (then again I haven't had coffee in a while) stumbled around Perth trying to find this place as I had gone past it many times enticed by the lovely aromas though never ordered. Though alas I arrived! Absolutely lovely staff and the lady gave me a chicken wrap and a medium flat white coffee for $10, bargain! The wrap wasnt even stingy and it felt like a quarter of a bird was packed into that thing. Was well worth the walk along Hay street and I would definitely come back due to the quality of the food and coffee and cheery staff... Though I'd be pretty happy too if I was in a kitchen with two handsome men all day ;)

Muffinssss!. They prob got the best muffins in town. <br/>Freshly made muffins, friendly staffs, big like!

Don't have a soy coffee here. It tastes awful.. Not sure what sort of soy milk they use

Good espresso.... ...not the best, but good.

Amazing coffee! Think I've tried every coffee place in Perth and this is by far the best. Friendly staff, great atmosphere wouldn't go anywhere else!

Had a roll here yesterday, big and tasty. The only bug near is the 10 min wait, but worth it if you have time.
Sammy
The first thing I noticed was the presentation of the staff. It was v casual without any professionalism. There was a bit of a wait for my coffee but it was a fine cup. I wouldn't rate it with the best coffee shops in Perth but it was drinkable. I would go there again but not out of my way and only if there's no people there as the wait can be long
Zoooo
The service was excellent and the coffee was worth the wait, (i had to wait over 10 minutes as it was that busy) I will definatley make this my new take away coffee shop of hay street. Next time i will definately be sampling the food aswell
Jason
Hard to pass by. Always in the city working and everytime I drive by I have to pull over and grab a quick long Mac, as long as the crowd isnt too busy.<br/><br/>Great little business serving good consistent coffee at a reasonable CBD price.

There's a reason people walk past dome and cue outside 1) the coffee is great 2) the staff are friendly and funny No more needs to be said

Awesome coffee, awesome staff. Really great coffee, I haven't eaten here, but all the sandwiches and such look reasonably fresh and decent, so I'll have to give it a look. My cappocino was fantastic, just really, really spot on, and every time I have gone back it's been the same. The manager (can't remember his name, Aaron possibly?) is a really nice guy and the other staff are also quite jolly. Definately recommend, although try and dodge it around office-slave-break-time, as you'll have a good long wait ahead of you.

Friendly, personalised service. Great little cafe, with good coffee and even better service, Aaron's smile brightens up my day! Sandwiches are a tad small but made with great produce and their $10 lunch special is a winner.
Cafe Addict
Great coffee, pastry fail. Really enjoyed my skinny cap from here, smooth flavour and just the right temperature. They had a great looking section of muffins with non typical flavours like black forest, maple macadamia, gluten free chocolate and coconut. I opted for the pastry tart, which looked great, and was good, until I got to the middle. They pastry was golden crispy on the edge but totally undercooked and doughy near the filling. The veggie and egg filling was ok (the tomato in it was delicious), just really unfortunate the pastry wasn't cooked. <br/><br/>Nevertheless I would definitely go back for their coffee. I would just choose one of their other delicious looking breakfast options - the egg and bacon sandwich and the yoghurt trifle both looked great, as did the macadamia slice.<br/><br/>It's worth pointing out that this place is very small (it's like a little kiosk in the wall), there are only a few high tables and chairs out front and I imagine it would get quite squishy when it's busy. Service was given with a smile and only a short wait for my coffee and food (and it was the start of the morning rush).

Best Coffee in Perth. I passed this little hole-in-the-wall cafe a number of times before stopping to try their coffee about a year ago. I have been a complete devotee ever since - and feel like part of the Vinyl family. Aaron (manager) has a wealth of experience as a barista, and quality is paramount to him. Due to supplier issues, he no longer buys that yummy milk from the south west that comes in the chalk bag, and I have noticed a difference in the coffee since. It's still the best coffee in Perth (in my estimate The Imp in East Vic Park is a close second).<br/><br/>Here's what I love about Vinyl coffee: the beans are always fresh - delivered twice per week; the milk is prepared correctly, and if Aaron makes it you'll get the glossiest sheen and pretty designs!; the price is fantastic ($5 large - 3 shots, $4 med - two shots, $3 - small - 1 shot); and if you want to take it home, you can get a bag of coffee beans for $10!! The food is beautiful, too. I love the breakky trifle (natural yoghurt, organic musli, and a fruit coolie that is nice and tart, nuts and kiwi fruit slice on top - $4.50!<br/><br/>I love Cafe Vinyl.

Best Mocha. Best tasting Mocha in town! I have tried Mocha's at most places in Perth but Cafe Vinyl's is the best.<br/>The service is excellent although they do get very busy at certain times of the day but still provide the best possible service. I have guys at work that go every day for their coffee fix even though there are many cafes that are closer.<br/>The muffins and sandwiches are also of a high standard.<br/>Well done to the crew and especially Aaron.
Freya
Love it!. Cafe Vinyl offers the best coffee. The flat white is beautiful- the coffee has punch and the milk is so creamy and thick it's just like having a dessert. The food rocks, the muffins are incredible and the sandwiches are awesome. Highly recommend it especially if you're a real coffee lover.

Average coffee, made slowly by disinterested poorly presented staff. I heard so much about this place, was so looking forward to a brew from there but left with a bitter taste in my mouth, one part poor coffee two parts poor service.

Aaron the Batista gives the best coffee with the best smile. What a faboulous way to start my day

This particular muffin is raspberry and dark chocolate, a delectable combination. I love how you get big chunks of chocolate and raspberry as opposed to tiny bits of bland choc chips or fruit. I’ve also had various unique flavours, my favourite being peanut butter and dark choc, but Cherry ripe was also pretty damn awesome.<br/><br/>Oh and if you want a size comparison this is what it looked like compared to my medium coffee -
The Pavarotti
Once upon a time, Cafe Vinyl was our go-to place for morning coffee. That is not to say that the coffee has gotten bad, it's more that we decided that the 20 minutes spent walking there and back was probably a bit much. But the little hole in the wall next to the old 78 Records store is still going strong and putting out tasty food and drink.
Foodie Cravings
With so many coffee drinking occasions to be had, I do have many favourites; Café Vinyl is in my top 3. On the way to Cafe Vinyl, a cyclist cycled past me with a Café Vinyl coffee in his hand and it was only then that I started to notice all the differing coffee cups and sizes across all coffee shops. Café Vinyl charge $4 for their medium and $5 for their large which to me is really an extra large when comparing it to other coffee joints in the city. So knowing this, I happily handed over my $4 for a medium instead of the usual $3.50 I pay for a large at Lowdown Espresso .
Coffeescape
I really like vinyl. It isn’t the best coffee in Perth but it is definitely good. The blend they use has a nice fruity aftertaste and although a little lacking in body, is smooth and consistently made just right.

Cafe Vinyl is an espresso bar that has been open since March, and is making an absolute killing with the local CBD workers. It is located next to the 78 Records store in the city. I dropped by this morning to have a nice chat with ex C
