Review Hyde Park Hotel - Perth

cody vegas
Hyde Park hotel is one of the best pubs in the northern Perth area. There is plenty of free parking. The menu is impressive and very affordable. They offer daily specials. I've been there twice this month to enjoy the crayfish specials they're offering during July. The atmosphere is relaxing, making it easy to spend time chatting with family and friends.

Snuck out for a Monday lunch with a couple of friends. The pub was mostly empty but still had a pretty good atmosphere. I went with the pasta dish and wasn’t disappointed. It was delicious with just the right amount of garlic. Very generous serve. My friends had the steak sandwich and burger which they also enjoyed. The staff were really nice and we had very nice lunch. Plenty of parking out the back.

First ⭐ great selection of beer, and cocktails. Second ⭐ they have a special everyday of the week, and a beer of the week as well, which means you can eat without leaving a hole in the pocket. Third ⭐ they offer karaoke Thursdays quiz night Tuesday, and plenty of board games if you just want to hang out and watch the sports on the big screen. Loss of 2 x ⭐ for hostile discrimination at the door, this is a local pub and can't really afford to discriminate who come and goes, a family came to the door on a Tuesday night, the daughter only had one VAX, honestly the Freo game on the weekend let thousands in with out checking VAX Cards. Not cool I thought it was in poor taste and won't be going back for a while, people don't forget!!😡 simply using the excuse “we’re just doing our job” isn’t good enough…

Went here for a quiz night. Tuesday night. Great night. Enjoyed myself and so did my friends. It's been done up! It used to be THE popular dingie pub... Great then... Brilliant now! Now it's a delight. Food literally delivered in minutes. Medium-rare porterhouse for $19??? Superb. Staff were just so extremely awesome. Very helpful and super nice! Go here!!!

If you’re looking for a casual pub with a great atmosphere and awesome vegan options, you can’t go past Hyde Park Hotel. I tried their new loaded fries and they are absolutely delicious! It’s a huge serving, piled high with toppings including BBQ jackfruit, jalapeños, vegan chipotle mayo and vegan cheese 😍 They always offer a few vegan options on their specials menu, which change regularly. I tried the current two vegan specials: Spiced Chickpea Burrito (spiced chickpeas and capsicum, red onion, lettuce, jalapeño, vegan cheese and mayo, served with guac and chips) and the Asian Tofu Salad (spiced crumbed tofu, cherry tomatoes, pumpkin, red onion, spinach, toasted pecans and Asian dressing). Both of these meals were really fresh and tasty! I’ve also tried from their regular menu: -Kung Pao Broccoli with chilli, coriander and sesame seeds -Corn Ribs with vegan sriracha -Charred Brussel Sprouts with maple mustard dressing -Jackfruit Curry (GFO) with sweet potato, chickpeas, rice, naan and coriander. Everything was really fresh and delicious! Overall my favorites are the Kung Pao Broccoli and the loaded fries 😍

Ordered multiple dishes via the app. The new menu had plenty of dishes to choose from and share with friends food came out quickly and was fresh.

Visited yesterday (Sunday), ordered Fish and chips. Beautifully presented, piping hot fish with stone cold chips. My companion's order of " dirty potatoes " was like warm. The baked camembert we shared was quite nice. The service was very good. The cocktails were superb. Something of a mixed experience, might have been an off day for the kitchen.

Pleasantly surprised by the food and how good it was at this venue. Been eyeing it off for a while and decided to come here for a Sunday lunch and do not regret it. Venue is a pretty nice set up and the food was absolutely delicious. Very rare to find a place that can do a good pie - definitely hit the spot. Such great value as well for the quality & quantity of the food. Highly recommend checking this place out. Would be a great venue for a birthday sesh too!

Lawrence L (2 reviews)<br/>With so many excellent hotels serving amazing meals in Perth, it is disappointing when you come across one that falls so dismally short of expectations. From the moment we entered and greeted by your disinterested waitress to the departure was just low grade.<br/><br/>We asked for a steak well cooked, we are ALWAYS very clear about thid as I can not eat raw meat. She is dismissive of our request ... delivered to out table with more disinterest is a barely cooked piece of meat..<br/><br/>I commented on the sub standard food and was dismissed as a joke as we left.<br/><br/>As we were about to leave we noticed this representative of this business laughing to colleagues..<br/><br/>What a low level poor quality place you have.

Typical pub food set up. Not complaining just not for my style. I do enjoy the prices which offer value for money. Service can be hit and miss but the staff are nice.

Unhappy with the meal (Haloumi wrap) I received because the haloumi was undercooked, the wrap was so loose the filling kept falling out and it was very sloppy and messy. Tasted alright but not great. Surely the kitchen could do better? It wasn't that busy.

The Tuesday night steak night is a winner. Nice rump for $15 with vegetables cooked to perfection. Pretty quiet night so came out quickly and was well worth the trip to this inner city fave.

Fun pub quiz, food is hit and miss, service is terrible. <br/>1st time - April 2018. Lost our booking for the quiz, slow service but good food (steak was slightly undercooked and fatty).2nd time - September 2018. Cold chicken parmigiana, my friend was given plain chicken wings instead of hot wings, all the food was cold. Our plates were left on the table for over an hour till we cleared them ourselves and brought them to the bar. Ordered dessert as we were still hungry. Apple pie was soft and a poorly executed frozen Mrs Macs apple pie from the freezer. Again, had to clear the table ourselves. Weren't allowed to use the Entertainment voucher with a gift voucher, even though the gift voucher is basically our own cash. <br/>Disappointing.

Ordered the seniors meal. What do they think. Seniors dont eat. Got a meal that wouldnt feed a kitten. Shame hyde park shame.i get a full meal next time and share.

Went to the Hyde Park on Friday night was greeted by friendly happy staff the food was excellent had a Cajun Chicken and Haloumi salad it was outstanding also had peppitas and pumpkin through the salad mmm mmm. Sensational!<br/>My partner had the ribs which were large and cooked to perfection .<br/>Washed it all down with a couple of Heineken’s , the DJ playing ambient music and the venue and staff all worked really well , best lacks pub I’ve been to in the Leederville , Mt Lawley area .

A group of us went on a Tuesday night and were pleasantly surprised that it was $17 steak night. We all ordered steaks that were cooked to perfection - my first decent steak in a long time! The service was good and it's a great venue overall. Will definitely be going back again.

I come here occasionally and the bar staff are always accommodating and nice. It has a great little courtyard area. And the food is good for the price 🙂
Rob
Very nice ambience both indoor and outdoor. Efficient service but a little neutral in terms of enthusiasm, No complaints about the food nor the prices which include a 150gm steak priced for seniors at $12, excellent value. Not too bad a venue to have a meal at, recommended,

The menu has changed compared to the one listed here. Overall, a really good pub lunch. We had a starter, two meals and two drinks for $79, then it went down after using an Entertainment Book voucher. Had the sesame calamari to start. It was served with mayonnaise and a sesame dressed cucumber salad. Was very tasty. For the mains, W had the bao served with sweet potato chips. He enjoyed it and the chip I tried was very nice. I had the rocket, pumpkin and risoni salad. I was pleased with how generous the serving was, and the flavours were nicely balanced. A good meal, but a little too pricey to be added to our regular weekend lunch rotation.

OMG tonight's meal was SO disgusting. We were a table of three and we all got chicken parmigianas. They were awful.Under cooked ,The sauce was so bland and OMG the cheese on top had barely been in the oven or under the grill. Was super hungry as had been looking forward all day ,What happened??? Who's cooking this crap and is this hotel under new management? you are my local as this is so bad.So sad.We all wont be back in a hurry any time in the foreseeable future. Please sort it out. That was applying.I could go on and on but l will just let my money talk and not come back🙁

Dined on a Thursday night, there was a pasta and Malbec special for $25.<br/>The choices for the pasta special all sounded great, we went with the gnocchi and the tortellini. I was not expecting home made pasta (which it wasn't) but it was still of a good quality and perfectly cooked.<br/>The accompanying sauces were rich and tasty, plenty of meat and veg in the dish too. The portion size was perfect for the price (not huge but filled me up, and we also had a starter to share).<br/>Would definitely go back to eat again. It's not fancy, but well priced, good quality food.

Recently renovated it the Hyde Park has a lovely ambiance and a good atmosphere. We had a Sunday lunch here with friends and the food was really nice, service was very good and the price is reasonable. Would recommend trying it out
Casey
Visited for the rib special $17- the food was tasty, but as you can see I had a very small serving. The lobster looked good- till eaten. Had a little smell and tasted not right. The highlight would be their mushroom gravy sauce. That was so good.

The Hyde Park hotel has many rooms and moods, suiting our trio tonight, but it also accommodates big groups too. My partner took advantage of the 1kg Thursday wings deal for $15 which fared fine, although the medallion steak special was much better. They substituted vegetables for chips with no fuss. The barramundi special with lemon butter was also substantial and tender.
Carol Sutherland
Worst steak and chips ever. Went for dinner, partner had scotch fillet with prawns, was the thinnest piece of steak, the red wine jus was watery and prawns were unedible. I had rump steak, was meh, and chips were so salty. I had mild food poisoning later when i got home. Spent $80 and partner was still hungry cause couldnt eat most of his meal. In their defense when we told them bout our meals they did offer $ back but we declined, we will just never return.

Saved us! We needed a late booking for Mother's Day and discovered they were hosting a buffet breakfast. Seems no one knew about it as there weren't many tables filled. Was a delicious Buffet with a bit of everything. Restaurant is really nice these days.

Great lunch spot. The service was excellent and the duck salad was very tasty. I did not enjoy the large amount of creme on top of the salad but that was easily pushed aside. The place is clean and inviting. The menu has something for everyone without being too "chefy". Entertainment book discount available.

Ordered the friday night special $20 rump and bug and the barramundi. We repeated our order just to be sure. Order the rump rare. Were given (and charged) for a $35 surf and turf- medium- and a barramundi. The staff ran away before we could notify him and there were no check backs. We were so hungry at this point we just cut our losses and ate it. Surf and turf was ok despite being medium when we ordered rare and the lack luster salad. The half the barramundi was dry and came with pretty average veg, not worth $28. If you cant pull off the food on your menu stick to pub grub.

Wednesday nights are American night at Hyde Park. We got the triple cheese burger with fries and the pork nachos. The burger was three beef patties and 3 slices of cheese. Tasted ok but it was rather bland. The pork nachos was terrible. The pork was weirdly mushy and very sweet. The nachos didn't have enough cheese and it had been over baked in the oven so was very very dry. No guacamole (pffft... american night?) And little sour cream and even though the menu said tomato salsa there was no salsa on it. .there was a scattering of chopped tomatoes but it did nothing to add moisture to the pile of dried up corn chips and mushed up pork. I asked the wait staff for some extra sour cream which they did bring but it did little to help make the nachos more palatable. My question to hyde park chef though is this " how can you get nachos so wrong? ?? They are literally the easiest food on the planet to make! " . I don't know what's happened to hyde park. They used to do nice food. Then they tried to fancy up and now is a confused mish mash of food and none of them great. The menu is also constantly changing and not for the better. Really miss their steak chewsday! At least they still have the free pool but for how long? Oh...the serving staff were wonderful.
Boogiebop
I've been going to the Hyde Park right back from the time when it was independent and this'll surprise you perhaps - the food was better, of more value for your money and were larger portions than when Woolies took it over. <br/><br/>Today, it's pricey and the portion DOES NOT reflect the value for money at all. $23 for two skinny pieces of fish and some nice chips? Really?? You left still feeling hungry. Ordered the surf and turf on an another occasion to try and give it another chance but it was still disappointing. Guys, lift your game. Seriously - it was better as an independent.<br/> <br/><br/>The Flying Scotsman pisses all over you guys.

Came here to celebrate my friend's bday party. <br/>We had 2 different types of pizza..and some finger food. Overall experience not bad at all. Customer service was pretty good. <br/>Love their vodka raspberry 😍😍😍

Came in a while back with a few mates looking to try this huge steak sandwich they had on offer, stupidly we ordered two of these between the 4 of us. The steak sandwich was super tasty but the sheer volume of fries was too much to finish and not be left feeling sorry for yourself after.

The staff were wonderful, decor is nice however $25.00 for a tiny salad was a little disappointing. . For goodness sake salad costs nothing. Not even half a cereal bowl. On the up side the flavour was lovely. My husband wasnt happy with his tiny salad either. Dessert was sticky date pudding and a serve of icecresm. If you are used to a STICKY sticky date pudding , this may disappoint you. 2 spoons of caramel sauce on the side is not enough to make the cake moist.l I would say we won"t be back. Even though the staff were awesome I dont think that will make up for the food.

I was surprisingly impressed with our visit lastnight after the pretty average reviews on here. Hopefully they have turned over a new leaf as the place is quite lovely inside, especially the outdoor courtyard area at the back! We went for $15 steak & quiz night. The rump was cooked perfectly to medium with very minimal bristle, served with chips and a nice little salad that had some radish on top for something different. I upgraded my chips to sweet potato and they were yummy too. My group worked our way through their red wine list and were happy with all wines but particulary their $7.50 house wine Shiraz and $13 Pinot Noir. So there is a good range on offer. We ate and ordered in the front bar area near the stage and the man serving was amazing. Super friendly and helpful telling us about the upcoming events, and that they have a wine special by the bottle in the back area every week. This week it's a $60 Malbec going for $30. They are also looking at hosting some wine appreciation nights in the future. I will definately be back.

Booked a table for my dads birthday...Table wasnt even ready...Staff were very rude...Food was overcooked and burnt never going back there again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried this as they had a special on Clipp for minimum spend $70 and 40% off. Well..their food has nothing special to it. Thought it was average and glad I didn't pay full price. The salmon was small and the sausage undercooked.Ribs looked great but extremely saucy. One thing that they do really well is the sweet patato fries.
Renato
My local... and generally ok. But - 9pm on a Friday night of a long weekend we were told (rudely) NO food in the bar due to a private function. Seriously? WTF.
Chris
Best chips in Perth, period. A decent selection of dishes, and consistently above average quality pub venue. Comfortable surroundings, prompt and enthusiastic service, and kid friendly. Basing my review off multiple visits.

Had our office Christmas lunch here. $40 for a three course meal is good value. 1 entree and choice of 3 mains & 2 desserts. <br/><br/>There's a vegetarian option and they are quite accommodating when it comes to nut and crustacean allergies. Having jelly instead of the Christmas pudding was rather depressing (due to possible nut traces) but it's good that they are ensuring duty of care.<br/><br/>Entree: prawn skewer (I had a chicken skewer)<br/>The chicken was a bit overcooked and some felt the prawns was rather ho hum.<br/><br/>Mains: steak, fish or chicken<br/>The steak was more rare than blue and a tad grisly for my liking. The crispy bits of the potato & sweet potato "frittata" was nice. Peeps who had the fish mentioned inconsistencies with cooking times and some portions were cold. The green apple salad served with the fish was a hit with the punters. The chicken and vego stack looked visually appealing. No complaints from those who ordered that dish.<br/><br/>Dessert: Christmas pudding or ice cream sandwich<br/>Those who had dessert cleaned their plates so I'm guessing they were happy lol. <br/><br/>Overall, the food is typical pub grub. The timing of the mains was a bit off. Wait time was an hour from when first steak was served to last chicken stack on table. Guess it's a challenge with 50 in the group.
Steve
Not great food. Better when it was independent<br/>The steak was tough and gamey. Sauce average.<br/>The service is fine but that's about it.<br/>Was a fan of the Hydey of old but no more.
Sarah May
Disappointing food at this iconic pub despite its face lift. Dined with mum last week for lunch. The menu was promising but it did not deliver. I've noted reviews in 2014 give reason for poor food as chef away and sous chef did not come up to scratch. Hope the same excuse is not given this time. Simple battered fish not crisp. Chips no doubt done in the oven over cooked. Pizza raw tomato topping on a margarita no sign of any basil!! Last straw a soy flat white coffee which was drinkable. <br/>Suggest the chef does course in microwave cooking and bar attendants get barista training or stick to beer and potato chips!!!
Mitch Wylie
$22 for a steak sandwich served on two pieces of tip top white bread... I've been disappointed by pieces of meat before but never like this
Alex K
Spent a few Sunday sessions at the Hyde Park and have always enjoyed it. Mostly spend time at the TAB side of the pub. Prices are reasonable and food can be ok.<br/><br/>The other side of the pub is a bit more pricey and food is always hint and miss. I would recommend having a few drinks, but not really a place you would grab a nice tasty meal. Don't be fooled by the specials, it's still a bit pricey for a pub specials.

Worst dinning experience. Use to be a great place but now I would sooner dine at McDonalds then give that place a cent. Out of the last four times my partner and I have been there we got the wrong steak not once but twice, My fish taste like dish water and was cold inside. Only once have we received our meals at the same time. If you are thinking about ordering the chicken pizza dont bother and save yourself a few dollars and just order the margarita pizza. There was maybe 4-5 small pieces on the entire pizza. The steak sandwich is served on bland, white slices of bread that they didn't bother to even toast. Oh and before you head to the Hyde park hotel be sure to pack a few snacks because it takes 45 mins to be served 2 meals on a thursday night. I should also mention before looking at the menu ask staff what is actually available for purchase because the tend to run out of most dishes. We use to love this place but will now never go back. I did ask and management had changed.

Steak sandwich. No. $24 dollar steak sandwiches should not have poor cuts of chewy meat. <br/><br/>Just no.
Jessica Bradley
The kitchen doesn't even know what's on the menu, completely wrong meals, which were sent back, but still not what was on the menu. Staff were unfriendly and no one even apologized for mistakes.

One of the worst. I put today's lunch up there with one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. After a few complaints, the Manager on duty (who was a lovely lady by the way) told us that the Head Chef wasn't working and the Sous Chef was responsible. This person should be ashamed of itself. I ordered the Hydey Platter which was supposed to have Cold cut meats, pickled vegies, garlic bread, trio of dips, crispy calamari and crispy chicken wings. What arrived first was no calamari, no chicken wings, no pickled vegies, disgustingly cold/stale garlic bread and the DIPS....well the dips turned out to be the 3 fillings for the MYO taco dish!!! This platter should not have been on the menu (Chef's Special Menu at that) as there were clearly no dips. What I received second time around was deplorable. The same stale garlic bread and cold cuts had been shifted to a new plate and teamed up with chewy, soggy calamari, dry chicken wings devoid of any flavour whatsoever and the DIPS....well the dips this time were a pesto (which I assume goes into one of the pasta dishes), a tomato relish (which goes into one/some of the burgers) and last but not least a curry paste! Yes that's right a CURRY PASTE (butter chicken). The fact that this person attempted to pass these "ingredients" of as dips is an insult to my culinary intelligence. I should add that this was meant to be a platter for two ($26.00). 3 chicken wings, 3 pieces of garlic bread and 3 slices of each cold cut meat does not make for a very fair sharing experience had I decided to share. A full refund was requested and received and despite managements plea for us to give them another chance, we will never return.

What happened?. Never had a bad experience at the Hydey until now. Have been there a couple of times and always pleased with my food.<br/>Went there the other day cos I was craving sweet potato fries with a steak (they seem to be the only pub that do them - if you know of others, please let me know!)<br/>Asked for my steak cooked rare - it came out well done. Not very happy. Same issue with my friend's steak.<br/>The fries were still excellent and the servings a good size. Prices are expected for what you generally pay in Perth.<br/>All I want is a bloody steak!
Liam.whitla
Complete rip off. Never complained about a meal in my life until I ate here. Small portion and total rip off. Never going back
Keryn Williamson
Went on wing night... Crap. All wings deep fried and topped with different sauce. Chicken Parma was very dry, tomato non existence, just bad.<br/>Entrees were ok.
Andrew Lwin
Sat down ordered drinks and ordered food waited for 15 minutes to be told kitchen closed.
Anitacmo
Nachos complaint. Don't order the Nachos they were so dry with very little tomato salsa and a bundle of cornchips left too long under the grill which made them even more dry. At $22 I'm not impressed at all. $2 worth of cornchips, sour cream and a few Jalapinos... Haven't been to the Hyde Park for a few years and thought we'd try today. 3 years ago we went to Mothers Day Breakfast with all pre cooked dried up bacon and eggs sitting in a Baine Maree, not to forget the Arrogant service from the staff delivering the food and when we complained he was disinterested. Flies in the window while eating. Never again. DISAPPOINTING
David_michael_weir
Sub-par from start to finish. The fact this great local was bought by a supermarket chain to gain access to the bottle-shop license should give you some idea of how much they care about the pub side of things, and the horrific 'renovation' they gave the place should give you another.<br/><br/>Tonight was the second time, at another party's behest, I have had to endure a meal at this establishment. There is nothing good about this venue in terms of food and eating. The dining room is dreary and dull with zero atmosphere. The service is rude, slow, uninformed, unskilled and (in hospitality terms) downright rude. The food is overpriced and ordinary at best.<br/><br/>At a table of 9 adults our waitstaff were heinously slow to over to take orders for drinks long run dry; if it were offered we would have knocked back wine all night waiting for our meals. Food took forever to arrive and when it did my steak and mash was luke warm, with an awful gluggy sauce applied all over. One of the meals came out wrong but the waiter did a very good job of resolving that issue quickly and with zero fuss. The rest of the food was bog standard and below par - do NOT come here for the food!<br/><br/>Whilst the mains took ages and were cold, my lemon pudding arrived steaming hot in no time - the result of a dessert shoved into a microwave for 2 minutes on high by the burning sensation on my tongue. It was a very ordinary dessert indeed. My partner didn't get his dessert as the waitress failed to take the order of the whole table, although she did warn us that the kitchen would be closing at 9pm and if we wanted dessert we would have to order quickly. At 8:57pm when the desserts did arrive my partner was informed that he'd missed his chance for dessert as the kitchen was closed - this is just bad service 101. If your staff and chefs care so little for the satisfaction of their customers that they won't take 5 minutes out from wiping work benches to prepare a small dessert then your restaurant deserves its 51% satisfaction rate.<br/><br/>Bad across the board, this restaurant is a stinker; I recommend you Drive 2 minutes down the road and dine at the far more professional Brisbane Hotel.

Slow and inconsiderate service, below average food. The vibe of the old Hydey completely stripped out for something generic and not impressive in the slightest. Wouldn't recommend.

We had a function here on the weekend in the courtyard with about 50 people. Management was very helpful with booking and information before the night. On the night, staff were fantastic and food was great. The chef even arranged a cheese platter even though it wasn't on the menu and allowed us to bring in a cake. Everyone commented on what a lovely place it was! Thank you to HPH for helping make our party a great night had by all!
Food 2 Run
Sorry just down Hill. Caught up with a mate who rated this place for a beer and snack.... Not the same has dropped a few pegs...come for a beer and give the food a miss... Beer cold and service good... Food lacking..

Great Pub Meal. Dined here with a daughter and two teenage grandchildren. The service was great, as was the food. The MYO Falafel Wrap was delicious and was accompanied by small dishes of tabbouleh, tzatziki, tomato relish and Persian feta cheese as well as a small mound of mixed lettuce leaves. The three large falafel were cooked perfectly. I was advised by my grandchildren that the Wagyu beef burger and Greek salad were also delicious - they must have been, there was not a morsel left on their plates. My daughter enjoyed the fish and chips - her staple diet whenever she dines out. Two orders of the chocolate mouse and one creme brulee finished of the meal however they could not quite finish the mouse as it was very rich and quite a large serve. All in all, a great meal with delightful staff.

Read some recent reviews and was not too hopeful. But was pleasantly surprised. Staff e friendly and attentive, food was great and a good time was had. Loved my rabbit pasta and the lamb pies were also great. Thanks, will be back.

Food disgusting, service appalling! Gotta pick your game up... Changed bits and pieces of the menu then claim you didn't change anything... Educate your staff, truth goes a long way... Hydey board was pathetic and over priced, bring back the original with the Turkish bread and sausage and olives. Pathetic! Disgraceful place. Shut down again, probably better that way...
Matmartin
Oh my god! how can you get it so wrong??. I grew up in Vincent St. and went to the Hyde Park Hotel every few days for dinner with my family. Great cheap and entertaining. Back on Friday at 46 years old on my first time since the reopening. There were 40 of us and I was so looking forward to it! Took the wife to Lido in Cottesloe the night before and it was brilliant! So here we go: the Hotel has no charm at all, the price of the food and booze is ridiculous. The service is an absolute JOKE!!!<br/>THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!!!! NOTE TO THE OWNERS: SHUT DOWN AGAIN FOR TWO YEARS AND RETHINK BECAUSE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IS APPALLING! GO TO KFC ACROSS THE ROAD FOR SERVICE AND FOOD!! 0/10

Geoff69. Sally formerly worked at the Inglewood Hotel shes nice when you get to know her but can be abrasive
Ed
Ordered the pecan pie and was amazed at how tiny the portion size was. For $11 you get a slice less than 2 cm wide!! How does that represent value for money?? Took it back and the bar staff agreed it was taking the p$$s but the manager and chef wouldn't do anything about it so instead got a refund. Great customer service. Not.
Youngin Of Perth
Overpriced for nothing. Manager on Duty with short blonde hair has been a total cow the past 3 times we have been for different occasions. Food tasted very average considering the price.
Alex82
Great food but lacking on the Service. I had to Laugh at the review by Thomas because we must have been there on the same night. Sally was obviously rattled and working with two new staff and certainly wasnt giving customers a warm fuzzy feeling. Even though the bar service was slow they have some interesting beers on Tap Vale Pale, Monkeyfist red ale to name a couple which is a refreshing change. <br/><br/>The food menu is nothing short of extensive and the rear bar vibe is actually very nice on a warm night. My wife had the soft shell crab salad and I had the fish and chips, both we excellent and came out on time. Note to management would be get your staff trained up a bit better and service with a smile goes a long way.
Thomas
I'd expect friendlier service from strangers if I burst into their home and demanded they cook me dinner!<br/>Breathtaking ignorance. Barmaid Sally would get a job at Fawlty Towers!<br/>Don't expect a warm greeting or to be asked how you're going - bar service equates to an upwards jerk of the head(which I interpreted as an unspoken inquiry as to what drink I wanted to purchase - whatever happened to "can I help you" or "what would you like"?<br/>So bad it's funny! No wonder the place is empty at weekends. <br/>Customers pay for food and drinks - not to be insulted!<br/>Whoever's hiring staff here should be snapped up by the prison service, as they have demonstrated an exceptional ability to recruit individuals devoid of manners, courtesy or respect for their fellow man. Fine for prisoners paying their debt to society, but surely those of us spending our hard-earned cash deserve a little more?<br/>Apparently not, if you roll the dice at the Hydey. <br/>At least the comedy is free, as well as the insults!

Royal Seal of Approval. A decent inner city pub with decent food.

Good if you take advantage of the specials. We visited the Hyde Park Hotel for dinner on an extremely quiet Monday night. <br/><br/>Upon entering the near empty bar, the barmaid told us the kitchen closed at 8:30pm, but we should probably order as soon as possible as it was likely to shut earlier. Fortunately, a Monday night special of buy one main get a second for half price, made up for the rushed ordering. <br/><br/>There was a good selection of craft beers, and a choice of 150ml and 250ml glasses of wine. A pint of Feral Sly Fox was $10.50 and a large glass of wine was $12. <br/><br/>The mains we ordered came in massive portions, with the chicken parmigiana ($24) being much bigger than I expected. Contrastingly, the “hot cheese” entree was very small, to the point of being overpriced. Essentially it was $16 for four miserable balls of deep fried cheese and small dishes of tomato sauce and mayonnaise on the side. Other items on the diverse menu included a vegetable filled filo pastry and a pork and fig burger. All the mains we ordered we of a good size and quality.<br/><br/>The service was fine, but with the place being so quiet, anything less would have been unacceptable. <br/><br/>I’d go back to the Hyde Park Hotel again for a meal, as long as the midweek specials (there’s a different offer each day) were something I could use, as it’s a little overpriced to make a special trip out for.

Blah!. Do you like being ignored by waitstaff and paying too much for sub-par food? Then come to the Hyde Park Hotel! Upon arrival we waited around while surly waitstaff pushed past us, finally we asked if we should just take a seat and the distracted waitress said 'Yeah.' It took ages for them to take our order, no kids menu offered even though our three-year old was with us and no water provided. I ordered the seafood basket for $33 what a joke... basically a tiny piece of fish, some squid and a mountain of soggy chips. Avoid.

Had dinner there tonight with friends. Couldn't fault anything. Food and service were excellent. The hotel is recently renovated modern and clean. Would eat there again.

Sad. Shocking meal tonight. Seafood basket devoid of seafood.. Falafel roll dry and weird. Chips with everything re cooked oldies. Should've taken a pic, sorry, feeling a bit off now anyway. Won't go back.. Shame coz it's our local.

Love the food, so tasty and fresh. But some staff need to put a smile on there dial!

The worst ever! Never again.! The service is slow and extremely rude. Waiting an hour for chicken wings. I would rather set my money alight and see it burn than come here again. Stay away for the love of god.

Disappointing!!! Christmas .... Disappointing!!!<br/>Christmas Lunch <br/>Started off well. Room was light and bright and the staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. Tasting plate with Turkish and dips was nice. I choose the Bruschetta with tomato and onion and ricotta - it was dry. A drizzle of oil or a dressing was missing. Main meal - as it is a pub better order a steak . Big Mistake. Terrible and so to was the jus. Jus was a thick gravy substance smeared over the meat. Salad with no dressing. The mini Christmas pudding was the high light of the meal. It was moist. The place was full. $42 lunch not value for money.

If you want wings, go to KFC across the road. After saying we would never go back after the last two times eating here, after a few drinks we made the mistake of returning for wings night.<br/><br/>Worst wings I have ever had. Tasteless fried wings with a meager drizzle of sauce, (apparently?) blue cheese sauce served on the side with a couple of celery sticks that looked like they'd seen better days. Although I'm guessing they still tasted better than the wings, which we only got through two of. Barely.<br/><br/>Next time I'm going across the road to KFC.

Horrifying. The Hyde park hotel does not follow the responsible service guidelines, with more then one patron at the time being heavily intoxicated, this caused a violent and unsafe environment for the majority if the patrons.

YUCK. The food is disgusting!! Ordered a prawn salad... prawns where frozen, salad tasted like it was pulled form the back of the fridge... my partner ordered a fisherman's basket it came out cold... do not waste your money!!

On a quiet Monday night we dined with a group of ten people. The nightly special was buy one meal get the second half priced. I ordered the crispy skin salmon on a bed of salad with feta and prosciutto. Was tasty and healthy, my partner ordered the chicken with sweet potato salad. She was happy also. There was no complaints across all the meals Barr a slightly overcooked steak. The food was all out on time, correct and staff where friendly. I would return especially on a Monday.

Our local pub / bistro! Good pub food, poor service most of the time! Fairly reliable for a good, well priced feed, atmosphere is often lacking which is a shame given the nice renovations!

Had lunch today with the hubby. We Always enjoy a Tuesday lunch out in Perth as its a quiet day and you really find out if food is awesome, good, average or bad at a perth restaurant as the joints are generally quiet. So this place has a 54% rating but we went here to eat the chicken wings as they are known around Perth as the place to go, BUT only on a Thursday, so had to find something else on menu. Expect inner city Perth prices. Great friendly staff having a chat with customers/welcoming which is a major plus in Perth. Great presentation. Great food. We had- Starters/sides - Hot balls ( $15.90) OMG fries ( $10.50) mains salted caramel pork belly salad ($24.90) American pork ribs comes with chips/salad on the side ( $27.90 for 1/2kg). Different beers/ciders on tap ( not the largest range I've seen).

Didn't know what to expect from this pub that doesn't look much from the outside but it was really yummy! Good service too

Had my third and final meal there 4 days ago. They continue to dissapoint.Staff are gr8 , pub is gr8. food is disgusting. Deep fried frozen food all overfried. Caesar salad was a large clump of lettuce with a drizzle of awful tasting dressing. Poor quality and a very dissapointing meal again.

Brilliant. Absolutely fantastic. Ten of us turned up on a Wednesday after work and they were more than happy to accommodate us with a table. The service was the best I have experienced in a very long time. They had a $15 burger special and the servings were huge. Some of our table ordered from the usual menu and all of the food was brilliantly presented and the taste was amazing. We can't wait to return - definitely a 10/10.

9/10 Loved it. No complaints. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere + outdoor heaters.

Would go back. Went here with girlfriends and the husband on a Friday night a month ago. Was not expecting much given some of the reviews I had read. The decor is very hip, service efficient. Wine reasonably priced too. The restaurant was PACKED....now I understand why. Had the lamb shanks...2 huge delicious shanks with mash! Husband had the steak and it was ok but .have to say was bit small and a bit overcooked....told him he should have had the shanks. Started with the garlic bread loaf...unusual presentation but was great and large which was a bonus. Definitely will go back.

Despite reviews, we went for lunch and found it great value and a fantastic place to eat! Service was friendly, helpful and efficient and the burgers we had were delicious with my very picky husband declaring it was one of the best steak burgers he's had! Great lunch!!

Foul and Over-priced food BE WARNED!!!. Be warned, this place has terrible food and service. Meals are definitely not worth the prices attached to them! <br/><br/>Before the refurbishments of the HPH back in 05/06 I remember the food being terrific! Good portions & value for money. <br/>It seems that since the refurbishments have come about the place has gone down hill. <br/><br/>Like the many posts before mine, my experience twice in the span of a couple weeks have been terrible.<br/><br/>The first time I dined at HPH with a friend two weeks ago we arrived on a Tuesday night not knowing it was steak night. <br/>The idea was to use the voucher from the entertainment book which is mainly why we chose HPH, that and I live close by. <br/>We didn't intend to order steaks but ended up doing so.<br/>My friend asked for a well-done steak with mash instead of chips and I asked for a medium to well-done steak with the chips.<br/>It took more than 40minutes for the food to come out and when they did they were wrong, I got the mash and my friend got the chips (easy fix though we just swapped sides), what really got me though was that the dish didn't even come with a small salad of some sort - this is usually the BARE minimum when you order pub meals or ANY meal really. Instead it was a small over-cooked piece of meat slopped on the chips and mash. It looked terrible. <br/>I was thinking to myself "surely this is a joke", I have NEVER been served something so miserable looking... ever!<br/><br/>We left the place unsatisfied, and to top it all off I forgot to use my entertainment book voucher. <br/><br/>I thought I'd give HPH another try, thinking that it may have been just that exception. Another friend and I had been planning to catchup for a while and remembering I had the voucher we decided to go to the HPH tonight (02/07/13). Originally we were to go to the Queens however their menu has seemed to have changed and nothing appealed to me (and now I wish we had).<br/><br/>We had booked a table at 7PM. We arrived and literally had drink menus thrown at us and an impatient waitress stood by our table looking bored and agitated out of her nut. We asked for a little more time and she stormed off. She returned again some time later asking us "have you decided what you want NOW!?" With a very bitter tone to her voice. We ordered our drinks and she was gone. <br/>Some time later (almost half an hour) she came back to ask us what we wanted to ordered. <br/>My friend referred to the menu and pointed out that it says what you can have with the below dishes and asked her whether this included the dishes we were intending to get, and the waitress said "yes"<br/>We both agreed on the mignon, my friend asked for the mushroom sauce and to have mash as well as the roasted potatoes (that came with the dish already) and I asked for the garlic sauce. She comes back to the table 10 minutes later and tells us that we will need to pay extra for the sauce and we agreed.<br/>The meals finally came out some 25 minutes later and straight away we could see they were wrong.<br/>My friend's mignon did not have ANY sauce on it, mine had some BBQ sauce looking consistency and colour on it (which clearly was not garlic), my friend had just got mash without the potatoes and the bacon that's meant to be WRAPPED around the mignon (hence it's name) was just a single rash of bacon awkwardly sitting next to this "supposed" mignon on our plates. <br/>I wanted to point out ALL the things wrong with our dishes but decided to just mention the incorrect sauces, or in my friend case; lack of!<br/>I went up to the waitress and brought her over to our food, she looks at it then at me and says "are you sure that's not garlic sauce"... I was thinking to myself; how did you even get a job as a waitress!! She hesitated but took the dishes back, and about 10minutes later our dishes were brought out again still looking miserable as ever.<br/>The potatoes were the only half decent thing, the meat was SO salty and the ratatouille were all mushed up and badly presented.<br/>To be honest the dish looked and tasted FOUL.<br/><br/>When we went up to pay the woman at the register said the meals came up to $88 and some cents... really? $88!? For that pile of junk we just ate (and mind you we were still left hungry!!). I handed her the entertainment voucher and it brought it down to $60.90 - even so the dishes would not have been worth more than $15 each considering how poor quality they were! <br/><br/>I can honestly say I will never be returning, entertainment voucher or not and I will strongly advise friends and family to choose elsewhere and not be deluded by the "look" of the place. Staff are rude and under-trained or lack any knowledge of the industry they're in, chefs (if you can call them that) clearly do not care what they're putting up, food is over-priced & there's definitely some level of false advertising in their menus.<br/>You're better off going to dodgy sizzlers than going to HPH!

Hard Veggies and bad service. The chef doesn't know how to cook pumpkin as it was hard as the potatoes as well the food wasn't that good :( and overprice... I went there on friday night and I get charged $15 for a cocktail that was for $10 because the special Friday night. The staff didn't know what the price was and they didn't know that was a cocktail night for f sake they should know this... Anyway horrible service special from Ryan always he is very unprofessional with the customers and he never understand what I said...

Of ur not in a hurry try it! 25 minutes drinks then food was a further 20 after that and they weren't busy. Understaffed & not friendly either

0 Wings for 4 Friends. Made a booking at 7.30 only to be told when we arrived that they've run out of chicken wings on their wings special night. Very very sad. <br/><br/>#0wingsfor4friends

Went to the HPH for schnitty Monday. Most unsatifisying meal of my life. The beef schnitty was tasteless like cardboard and chewy like leather. The dirty bird across the road offered more tastier alternatives than this Schnitzel.

Step back from the counter... And walk right out the door. Another disappointing meal. Why did I go back! I thought I should give it one more try after some idiot gve it a good review that was published. <br/>If you are a woman, and over 35, forget it. The snotty female staff will only look at you with a nose wrinkled up in disdain. <br/>I ordered a steak, rare with chips and a salad. The porterhouse came almost medium, tepid, with lukewarm chips. It had no discernible flavour. The salad had definitely seen a better day, probably a week ago. The $40 bottle of wine was uncerimoniously plopped down in front of us. Unpoured. The seal just broken on the cap. <br/><br/>Surprisingly poor service given it was a quiet Saturday afternoon. And really no excuse.
Gianmarco De Poloni
My mates and I went down here last night to get the $20 steak special. Service was atrocious. Took me more than 10 minutes to order a drink at a bar that wasn't at all packed. The two service staff on, had no idea what the pecking order was. They also prioritised changing notes in the register countless times over serving customers. Very unprofessional. We waited so long to get table service to order food that we just went up and ordered. My mates meal came out about 15 minutes before the rest of us...we all ordered the same thing.<br/><br/>The steak was decent and it's good value for $20. It's also a nice place in a good location. It would be a good place to go for after work drinks in North Perth. It's a shame the sub par service let it down.

Went for famous wings... had no wings.. Made a reservation for 6 people to sample the famous 1KG of Spicy or BBQ Wings.." No sir, we have no reservation for you... oh and we have no Wings." Walked out... massive fail.

Decent food for a cheap price (considering the area)

As other reviewers have noted, this place just seems to lack atmosphere. It was verrrrry quiet when we went on Saturday night. Service began well but it was near impossible to get attention later, and we had to go hunting to find someone to get the bill. Anyway, onto the food. <br/><br/>Our group of 6 had a variety of mains and desserts. All were OK. I had the steak (asked for medium but got very well done. Upside? The veggies were yum!) and others on the table agrees - OK but nothing we'll be rushing back for, especially at Saturday prices (the specials during the week look like good value).<br/><br/>The fit-out is great, and there's a nice mix of outdoor and indoor seating. If you can find someone to seat you ;)

Love the food, good pub, generally great except one waiter is teribble.

YUK...Don't waste your money. We have been to the Hyde Park Hotel a few time -but we will not go again.<br/>It has been steadily going down hill and the food quality is increasingly poor. Special menu nights are a disaster. We ordered the chicken schnitzel- very average bland sauce, not tender. The beef schnitzel was Absolutely disgusting, overcooked, poor quality, very chewy, oily......yuk yuk yuk.<br/> I could not eat it. When I mentioned it to staff member he simply did not care.

Good Pub Food and More. Three of us had a Friday night meal here last week. Being Friday night I booked a table ahead but there was no need with plenty of tables available throughout the evening. Not sure why and it made me feel a bit suspicious as we contemplated the menus.<br/>There was OK live music and plenty of people just drinking and listening.<br/><br/>The main menu is quite extensive especially for a pub and there is a colourful kids menu which is also bigger than the norm. An extra printed A4 sheet contained 6 specials plus the desserts. So no-one could complain about the lack of choices.<br/>I noted that there were special themed meal options on Mon thru Thu nights - for example a family of 4 can eat schnitzel for $45 on Monday nights.<br/><br/>The three of us had:<br/>1) Pasta of the day with prawns, spicy sausage, chilli etc in a white wine and olive oil sauce. I was assured that although quite spicy it was great.<br/><br/>2) Seafood pie with prawns, salmon, scallops etc etc. Also raved about and eaten with gusto.<br/><br/>3) I tested their abilities and standards to the full by ordering a fisherman's basket - in a pub! I might add that I don't remember the last time this selection proved to be a wise choice with most serving up a variety of frozen, dry, pre-crumbed commercial deep-fried cardboard replicas of food, along with the fatty chips and a poor excuse for a salad.<br/><br/>Tonight was different. <br/>There were a number of fine fresh seafoods including crabs, prawns and fish fried tempura style, all being moist with real flavour and a thin batter. It was a pleasure to eat.<br/>The chips were well above average and may have been double fried.<br/>The salad was fresh, substantial and accompanied by a virgin olive oil dressing. Dare I add that I couldn't finish everything but that played no part in my judgement of the meal. <br/>Well done. I will be taking the family there next time to give a real test.
Malcolm
A few of us from work went (for our 3rd time) on Saturday night and all of us enjoyed our meals. The standard was better than average and the service was much improved. Drink prices are a bit steep though...as my meal was about $27 dollars and the drinks I bought came a hefty $38...mostly soft drinks. My friend had a similar story and she had only bought herself 3 wines. Definately going again but will be a dry table.

It's been a while. Hyde Park hotel. Ahh... ... the memories when I was a poor university student. The place to go for a good feed that does not hunt the wallet too much, the dank, smoky areas.<br/><br/>Had a gift voucher so thought let's try it. Afterall, it has been done up and everything else. Made a booking for a Sunday. Was given the offer of either inside or outside sitting. Both are non-smoking but given WA's love relationship with flies, I chose to sit inside.<br/><br/>Rocked up on Sunday. Easy as. Show to our booth. Now the refurbishing is wonderful. Everything looks new and sparkly, lots of lights everywhere but they still maintain the brick facade on the inside so there is a chic retro feel to it.<br/><br/>Hmm, browse the menu. Wow, prices have since gone up I must say. But nevertheless, let's try and see. Our party of 5 ordered 3 Hydey burger and 1 chicken burger. <br/><br/>Friendly advice - Check the appetite of your group. The serve size is substantial. I reckon the Boss could have shared a meal with my aunt and both will still come away feeling full.<br/><br/>Little boss had the kid serve of steak and chips. A bit surprised that it is serve with salad instead of chips so had to order a side plate of chips, otherwise I will not hear the end of it.<br/><br/>The Hydey burger was wagyu beef, edam cheese, turkish bread roll, loads of salad and bacon. I think this is one of the few places that give you a good amount of salad compacted in the burger. Sauce has been applied already. I managed to get half way through mine before deciding to eat the ingredients and dump the bun so to speak. The other party members did the same. Most of us left half a bun as we were definitely too full to finish it all.<br/><br/>Service was prompt, waiter brought our menus after sitting us down and proceed with drink orders. He was non too fussed that we were having tap water only. The only quibble I had was that when ordering the little Boss meal, we specify no salad or greens but chips instead. When the meal arrived, the steak was on a bed of greens. It was very severely checked by the little Boss that we were not trying to sneak a green into his meal.<br/><br/>Also, when we requested for alternative sauces, we were informed that they only have ketchup and aioli. A bit of bad news if you like other sauces.<br/><br/>So... ... Will definitely visit it again if we are in the vicinity. The food was good, substantial serve size and service was acceptable. But I do miss the smoky, dank look for yonder years.

Dreadful. Wouldn't allow salad with burger instead of chips, desserts were out of the frozen cabinet in woolworths. Shame because the venue's nice.
Le Fay
The weather was so lovely and the atmosphere so calm and relaxing that the food could have been awful and I still would have enjoyed it. The staff were attentive and friendly, and there was plenty of room and a great selection of drinks. The kids meals were good, the ribs were popular. The Sunday roast special was average, and the pasta wasn't appetizing. But I would definitely go back and try something different on a lovely spring day.

Not good at all. As soon as we stepped in a girl dropped a tray of glasses - shards reached my 3 yr old girl. Nothing was said. We had reserved a table for 5 and at 5 and were seated straight away. We sat and sat and sat.... Husband went to bar to get drinks and sat some more. I went to the bar to ask for menus. The waiter was very vague "well where are you sitting?" He came over and said rudely that we are on a reserved table I explained that we were put there. He said "well no one told me!" Ordered the kids meals and my mother-in-law asked for the kids packs and we have been before. The same waiter said oh we don't normally give them till the food comes out but I suppose I can get them!! Food came and it was ok, my salmon was cooked fine but on such a tiny plate all the salad was falling off. My husband had the panko crumbed squid, but not good seemed like straight out the freezer and the chips were half done. Kids meals were ok. I ordered a tiramasu - not a tiramasu at all, again straight out of freezer, no taste at all, bland, harldy any sponge or coffee taste. Soggy biscuit on the top of it.<br/>Husband went to pay at the bar, 3 men behind bar doing nothing, making themselves soft drinks!! The man in front got a bottle of red wine and had to ask for his own glasses. Then one waiter looked blankly at my husband who asked to pay the bill and the waiter said "he will do that" pointing at another man!??<br/>Third visit with the kids as it is a kid friendly place but unfortunately it has gone down hill so will be going elsewhere now.

Very average, meals were not worth the price ! Wasn't impressed and won't be returning.

Hmmmm?. Went here for the first time on Sunday because it was recommended to me by friends but was sadly disappointed. <br/><br/>Firstly I have to say the staff were very good, thats a nice change from many of the establishments I've recently attended. No problems there at all it was really down to the food on the day.<br/><br/>Now to the excuse for food. <br/>Well it amazes me that people will pay high prices for what I can only call sloppy crap. I actually have no reservations about paying for a decent meal, far from it actually. I do object to being presented a meal, paying the rates for it and finding out its less than satisfactory. Bare in mind I paid nearly $200 on the day so I feel entitled to write this review.<br/><br/>I ordered fish and chips, which is a simple enough by any standards. The fish was supposedly snapper. Now anyone with half a brain can say that snapper would taste good even on a bad day and you expect to pay more for such a divine flavored fish anyway, so how can you get that wrong? <br/><br/>Firstly the fish I had didn't taste anything like the snapper I've ever caught or eaten (along with dhufish its the only fish I'll eat anyway so I can safely say I'm a good judge on this one)<br/><br/>This fish was more like a sloppy greasy piece of berley, even allowing for emotion and artistic license it was poor. To be fair I could have oiled my bikes gears with it.<br/><br/>I was hopeful to salvage the meal with the fries but no... they were overcooked and dry, drier than the fish thats for certain. So finally turn to the salad and lo and behold ... grit, try washing it thats my advice. <br/><br/>All in all waste of a good Sunday day out. Not going to write anymore, not going to bother going back there either.
Chris
Undercooked, overpriced, and understaffed. Do not eat here. Plenty of much better places.

What a lovely experience we had for mothers day today at the Hyde Park. The staff were all friendly and more than willing to help and the food was exceptional. Can't complain about a free glass of bubbly on arrival either! Well done Hyde Park- We'll be back!

Not happy.. I just finished lunch in Northbridge and my partner and myself thought we would go to the Hyde Park Hotel for a few drinks and watch the Dockers v Gold Coast. With the bar only having 1 bar staff person we waited 20 minutes without being served. We left and will never go back. If you want people to attend your premises at least offer reasonable service. Lift your game Hyde Park Hotel.<br/>Julian

Chicken wing nite.....ding ding winner!!!!!! Wow it was cranking @ the hydey last nite! Suicide sauce no kidding!!!!! Hot hot but so good, the chicks in the kitchen were going gangbusters and we didn't have to wait long at all! See you next week wing nite!

Went down to the hydey tonight, man it was pumping! Absolutly packed and the bar had some comedy thing on that was pretty good. Went there for dinner, most of our table had the wings. Pretty good $15 for a kilo of wings. My friend braved the really hot sauce... Yikes my mouth is still burning from it! We were expecting a bit of a wait on food and drinks, but to our pleasant suprise it didnt take long at all which was great, even though we were enjoying the atmosphere. Jugtails were fantastic aswell! Thanks hydey for a great night, will definatly be back for those wings!

$13 Chewsday Steak Night. I've been here a couple of times with a couple of the girls for $13 steak night. Pretty good value for $13. And let's face it, "you don't make friends with salad" ...

Winner, winner chicken dinner. Chicken Kasundi pasta! Gone to chicken eaters heaven! delicious. My mouth is watering thinking Bout last nights dinner. Well done Hyde Park on a terrific Reno, the place looks great. I'll be back for sure.
Hmmmm
Regular. Well, i live down the road from the hydey, so i occasionally pop down there for a few ciders and a meal with the girls. I definatly havnt been dissapointed yet!i always have some sort of steak, and always to my liking, the cajun potatoes are yumo, i wish they did them all the time. My partner loves the rissotto, but so so filling. Im not sure what someone wrote about the pizza, im pretty sure theyv never had pizza on the menu since its re-opened, maybe your mistaken with dominos?! Love going there for there wing night, always a nice change from the kfc ones. Staff are usually pretty happy, my favourite staff member is a guy named misky, he knows us as regulars and always looks after us. See you next week hydey!

Footy on the road. Thanks to the staff at the Hyde park for a great luncheon for the footy on the road, I have to many of these events and I must say that this one was thoroughly enjoyable. The staff behind the bar were very accommodating, and I was surprised of the number of beers that where on tap, it's good to have a varied selection, I also thoroughly enjoyed my steak sandwich lunch, delicious! this hotel has made a good impression on me andI will be back with the family for dinner.
Foodee
A Pleasant Surprise. Although it has lost its indie appeal - no more scraggy carpet floors and postered walls, the Hydey has made up for it by serving beautiful food.<br/><br/>Given its recent renovation, I looked around the Hydey and couldn't help but wonder if the choice of decor would become a bit naff in 10 years time. As mentioned by other reviewer it is very similar to the Brisbane, Inglewood and any other pub that has been refurbished during the past couple of years.<br/><br/>Interior aside, I was pleasantly surprised to find the pub grub above average. I ordered a rib eye steak with a vegetable stack and my partner order a some kind of belly busting burger with chips (both were on the specials menu). Both were devoured with a pint of beer each. My steak was cooked perfectly and was beautiful cut of meat. The burger had beautiful flavours and the golden fries were cooked to perfection.<br/><br/>It was a bit hard to get the staff's attention has they have a large floor area to cover and weren't necessarily in our area when we wanted to order things.<br/><br/>I would happy go back to the Hydey for dinner or a sunday session lunch. There are lots of dfifferent spaces to dine inside and outside which helps to create a flow of atmosphere through the place which you never really got before.
Fussy
Tasteless barramundi dish .... No flavor whatsoever . I will hv to say worst baramandi dish I have ever tasted & I order fish quite a lot. Even with buy one meal get one free I felt rippled off. <br/>Pizza was reasonable. <br/>Good drink specials
Hillzeez
We have previously visited the revamped Hydey with great success, tasty food, family friendly and reasonable value!<br/><br/>What a shame it's taken ALH less than a year to trash a great venue. The only highlight tonight was a kind waitress who agreed the meal served to my hubby was 'gross' and deducted it from the bill.<br/><br/>No colouring in for kids any more, dubious raspberry dressing drizzled on all salads, garlic bread fresh from the microwave and the most flavorless, greasy and inedible seafood basket. A long way from one tasted a few months earlier. <br/><br/>We should have gone to the Rosemount and paid a lot less money for an ordinary pub meal and at least left with full bellies. At the prices the Hydey requests I expect more.
Hungerpangs
Ho hum. Went here Sunday night for birthday drinks. Isn't too far from where we live so was looking forward to checking it out. <br/><br/>Has been renovated I'm told and it resembles the Inglewd/Brisbane hotel. Nice and modern with a nice garden setting.<br/><br/>Service at the bar is average, the bar staff are a little disinterested. <br/><br/>Decided to dine in and was presented with a menu which contained plenty of options (meat/seafood/vegetarian).<br/>There were several people with us so I was able to survey plenty of the options. I went with the vegetarian open sandwich which consisted of mushroom, onion, pesto on rye bread with chips. Also ordered the sweet potato fries (delish) while my partner got the chicken parma. Mine was a little low on taste (boring) but the parma was nice and cheesy. <br/><br/>A mate ordered the burger which was 'fine' (read average). The biggest disappointment, "The Pint of Prawns". This was ordered at $19 so the expectation was "Oh good value". What came out was a pint beer mug with 8 peeled prawns around the top. The center consisted of lettuce. What the? New name suggestion "8 Prawns ON a Pint Glass".<br/><br/>Overall experience was good enough. Don't think I'd bother heading back there but if that's where an event was organised, I'd head down. Go with good company rather than for the dining experience.

Wonderful service. Awesome onion rings and salad. My friend had the risoto and it was beautiful.

Awful. My wife had pork belly. How is it possible to serve a high- fat piece of meat as dry as a bone.<br/><br/>I had seafood basket. Fish had the texture of an over-cooked chicken. The rest of this basket consisted of dry seafood pieces. Rather than a side serve, the seafood had been placed on top of the pale, soggy chips. A very small bowl of salad completed the $25 meals. The whole bowl was about half the size you would normally expect from a seafood basket.<br/><br/>We had a voucher which said" 20% off food bill". Says nothing about not including drinks. Either include them or state on the voucher that they are not. Senior waiter then proceeded to argue the toss with little customer sympathy. <br/><br/>Over priced and underwhelming. Even with the voucher

The Hyde Park Hotel is more machine now, than pub: twisted and evil. The only way this once great pub can redeem itself is to somehow metaphorically lift it's Evil master ALH, and hurl it into a reactor core. Sadly instead of having another rare beautiful old school pub with heart and soul, we have another douche-headquarters not unlike the brisbane. The chump decor has only attracted chump patrons. ALH deserves a reprimand for tarting up and assimilating this establishment into it's own cold and indifferent collective. Yes oh yes- this is now a Borg pub. Food also sucked and the staff were generic and not unlike some bored doofus you'd find behind the counter of McDonalds. RIP old Hydey.

Nah. Finally decided to give this local a try after hearing mixed reports and being put off by the trashy, flashing coloured lighting. It was surprisingly quiet for a hot Thursday night and I think I know why. Some of the others I dined with enjoyed their meals but I have to say I was less than impressed with my dry-as-the-Simpson-desert battered fish with badly cooked chips and a small salad drowned in raspberry viniagrette. Good points: tartare sauce was tasty and they happily gave us a bowl of lemon wedges when we asked for extra. Atmosphere is ok, decor is a bit hit and miss, wine list is reasonable. Would I go back? Probably not. Too many tried and tested alternatives.

Good service, chef doesnt know how to cook a steak

Pretty dodgy. Got a flyer in our local paper so thought we'd give it a go....not work the effort. I ordered what i thought was a steak sandwich...turned out to be a soggy roll that appeared to be made of fairy floss, sliced steak (and not much of it at that) smothered in what tasted like a bottled sauce and half melted cheese. Nasty.

And it all started so well. We decided to give the revamped Hydey a go on the recent long weekend Friday, as it will soon be our local and, with kids, its "child friendly" approach and outdoor setting appealed. So we rocked up with a group of 8 adults and our two little one (6 months and 2 1/2 years) and settled in. While service was a little slow, we weren't in a hurry and the food was great. Even better there were high chairs and a party bag waiting for our littlies on arrival. What a great touch!<br/>After an hour or so a one man singer/guitarist fired up and it was all very convivial. Our little man was running between the tables laughing and clapping and dancing to the music and everyone was having a great laugh at his antics, clapping with him and generally enjoying the show, including the singer I might add.<br/>At this point things went downhill. A waiter come up and muttered in my ear "That high pitched screaming's gotta stop mate". I just replied "Oh he's just having some fun" However I wasn't sure whether he was actually serious or not so approached him and he said the manager has told him to get us to quiet down our boy. I asked to talk to the manager and a women came out from a back office and said she could hear his screaming and that it was annoying the punters! She hadn't even stepped out of her office and just sent one of her henchmen to tell us to quieten down. After us spending more than $500 in her establishment. UNBELIVEABLE! So we proceeded to vote with our feet, but no before I had informed all of the other dinners sitting around us that why we were leaving. They were all shocked and even offered to talk to the "manager" but at this stage the damage was done. Don't purport to be child-friendly and then drop a bomb like that. Huge disappointment and we will certainly never return.

Yum yum. Fishermans basket was awesome! soft shell crab! love the new Hydey

Stone cold food served with attitude... 2/10

Tasty salad. Came as a trio sampler so saved me having to choose just one. Really, the atmosphere was what made the place. Great beer garden! Wines were a bit pricey.

Regular diner. Thought we'd give the Hydey a go as we enjoyed it before the takeover and we were sadly disappointed with below average food and poor service.<br/>Ordered the steak sandwiches for the special price of 4 for $66 which came out with very very thick bread and paper thin slices of tough, overcooked steak and undercooked bacon, <br/>When I questioned the manager why we were charged $70 for the steak, he said the special was "only if the meals came out on one plate"?? Never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. <br/>As for the wine $10.90 in the adjoining Dan Murphy's and $39 on the menu at the restaurant for Taylors!!!<br/>Dont even get me started on the cold coffee!!<br/>I and would like to warn everyone DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING THERE!

One to avoid. Was there a fortnight ago. Just horrible service and a poorly designed building. The food is ordinary at best. Very bland and overpriced.

Will avoid. My friends who've been there said the food was not bad. So I decided to give the place a go. As for my personal experience and the 3 other friends which were with me, the steaks that came out from the kitchen were moderately burnt and you could taste the burnt charcoal in the steak. Yet the whole steak itself was only slightly warm and one of my friend's steak was COLD. Not only that we had to wait 45 mins for the main course to come out.<br/><br/>Also for the friend which had a cold steak, when he highlighted this to the staff they took it back to the kitchen and he had to wait at least another 20 mins ( enough time to finish my whole meal) before his replacement meal arrived. And when it arrived it was very over cooked (dry and rough), and of course burnt. <br/><br/>All the Staff's attitude and helpfulness was not too bad , but then again we're there mainly for the food and it was not pleasing. A tip I have to give is that if you like your steaks more tender ( plus less dry and burnt) ask for medium rare. Also we ended up eating some KFC next door instead of ordering more food.<br/><br/>Will Avoid going there for food if possible.

Disappointed.. After looking fwd to eating at the new Hyde Park, the experience can only be summarised as disappointing. The service there is TERRIBLE! Even ordering food and drinks with the 'manager' at the bar left everyone with a bad taste in their mouths. Meals were acceptable, although some dishes (4 of 8) were pretty late upon arrival. Improvable and far from impressive.

Food Terrible. We went to the Hyde Park on Sunday night for dinner,<br/>I ordered the chicken parmigana, my husband fish and chips and my brother the 250gram beef wrapped in bacon. It took half an hour to get our food, then to get a burnt to the crisp chicken parmigana with hard burnt cheese on top and no neopolitan sauce to be seen and the size of it no more than 100g of chicken, my husband recieved two small pieces if fish in a grid like metal basket with baking paper which made it virtually impossible to cut and eat his meal as he was poking holes through the paper and my brother's so called 250g beef was definaltey not the size they said much smaller and the bacon was also burnt to the crisp. All meals from $23 - $35 each, definately not worth a meal here!<br/>I will compliment them on the new venue looks great and good selection of beer, but definately wont be going back for a feed!

Hyde park service. We visited the Hyde park hotel for lunch. Service was an embarrassment. We asked for water to start it never came. We had to chase the waitress to order food and the meals were small and average. We chased the waitress again for some salt and tried to order some drinks. She ran off before we could give our full drink order. Another witrsss delivered two drinks for the 4 of us so we asked for another two drinks. They never came!! We asked fir some water now and she brought one glass. There were clearly 4 people here. Crap service, average food. Don't waste your time.

The Hydey is back. It's not as grungy as it used to be, but it still retains some of that good ole Hydey feeling. Yes, it's been revamped (with some of the decor choices a little questionable), but it's not overdone, and still has a casual accessible atmosphere.<br/><br/>The decor has been updated of course, but there is a kind of familiar layout in the front bar (I can still visualise the spot where that old guy who lived at the bar used to sit), and they kept a couple of pool tables - albeit at $1 a game instead of 20c. Call it CPI.<br/><br/>I had the seafood platter, while hubby had the pie floater. His pie was filled with tasty beef, although the pastry was tad undercooked. It wasn't exactly floating in pea, but declared quite delicious nonetheless.<br/><br/>My platter was winning. An incredible amount of fresh nicely cooked seafood - 3 scallops, 4 prawns, a bracelet of perfectly tender squid (see photo), crab croquette and thick snapper (plus salad and chips). Could not eat it all. Amazing value at $25.<br/><br/>Service was attentive and friendly. No pretension here.<br/><br/>I am one of those Hyde Park stalwarts with very fond memories of this old haunt. I must say the new transformation had me pleasantly surprised. Will be back.

Dinner. Went for dinner with my partner and his parents last night. I had the flat bread with bocconcini, tomato and basil. It was scrumptious, I ate the whole thing! Everone enjoyed their meals too. Highly reccommended. The staff were good too, especially Matt. :-)<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Jul, 2011-----<br/><br/>Great cocktail. You must try the pineapple cardomon cocktail-it's extremely delicious, ask for extra cardomon. I didn't eat there, but the food looked very good and there were many happy faces who were dining. It was good to see Swan draft on tap too-just like the old Hydey. The staff were very friendly and pleasant.<br/>You must check out the aerosol art on the walls- very interesting! I can't wait either for the bands to start up, as the stage is at window level-looking good!

Good Start. The newly open renovated Hyde Park Hotel had a lunch visit this weekend for TimTam. The layout is a little confusing however the friendly staff were quick to ask people what they were after and seat them accordingly. On the table today for lunch was the Turkey Club sandwich served with chips (including sweet potato chips). The ingredients in the sandwich were nice but it was hard going as the bread slices were thick. You certainly need the steak knife to get through this. One poor note was the male manager, when TimTam went to pay for the meal he never made eye contact, nor asked how the meal was, however he was the exception as every other staff member were extremely nice.

The Hyde Park hotel has been around for what seems like forever, after undergoing a much needed facelift in 2011 this pub still feels spacious and has a nice casual vibe.

Service was excellent and staff friendly – and the place was seriously renovated (apparently it used to be a bit of a dive – not so now, it is very upmarket) in 2011 and still looks brand new. It was my first time there, but it won’t be my last!

I really can't see anyone having a bad time at The Hydey, it’s a decent local pub, perfect for a cheap mid-week meal and drink or a relaxed Sunday session with mates.<br/>
Bec
Definitely a winner. I was impressed with the atmosphere and the new look of the place. The food was good, the prices were standard and there were a few legitimate options.

J and I shared a kilo of wings with all three sauces – we both really enjoyed double dipping between the BBQ and spicy sauces!

They’ve done a fabulous job of turning the Hyde Park Hotel into a fabulously fresh establishment – spacious and trendy. Despite some disappointment for GG on this visit, I’m sure we’ll be back to give it another go.
