Review El Asador Argentinian Grill - Perth

Great little restaurant, only about six tables inside so probably best to book. Empanadas were delicious, definitely returning.

Very disappointing, over cooked, dry food and very overprice. Trying to go for a nice meal on Saturday night with my girlfriend. At $50 for one main meal, you expect something nice, but you get: 5mm very thin steak, terribly dry chicken and all way over cooked and dry and the sausages, I love Chorizo but but what you get here is not enjoyable to eat at all, even the corn was dry and not edible. and all that combined with poor service will not be going again, I forgot even the empanada where crispy on outside but doughy still frozen and bad bits of chewy meat on inside. Oh and even the Argentinian Malbec Wine is below average. I was looking forward to the food as the marketing and insta photo's look good, but the Real Food and Service you get is nothing like that!!

Without a doubt the best rib eye I've ever had in Perth and I pride myself with cooking a great steak. The chef knows exactly what he's doing. Allowing the meat to speak/taste for itself. I've never felt complete by a meal. I'd marry that rib eye if I wasn't already there celebrating an anniversary with my wife. Speaking of the missus, we shared some empanadas. Hot tip, order enough so you don't have to share, they're that good! The service was fantastic, wine and cocktails come out quickly and taste amazing. Cannot wait to go back for seconds. Thanks for a great night!

Staff are friendly and helpful. It is an authentic Argentinian small resturant that cooks over coals. Typically meat served not much for the vegetarians if thats your reference. The deserts ohhh my mmmm yum!!

I came here with a Groupon voucher and found it to be value for money. It's a nice venue in an old house. Our table was down the back in a bit so nice room with the other Groupon customers. Service was reasonable. The standout was the main. I had the meat lovers - the meats were delicious and well cooked. The serving was large. The table was a bit small, along with the plate we're dish was served on. Unfortunately my partner's main had a lot of fat on it that was soft/not rendered. The real let down for this place for me was the dessert - I was really looking forward to the tres leche but it was very dry and not like it should be, so I left it (even though it's one of my favourite desserts).

I had been wanting to go to this place ever since I had eaten from their stall at Twilight Hawkers in 2011. So happy they have a restaurant now! The food was absolutely amazing, staff was so lovely too. I also love that they bring to you some chimichurri in a jar free of charge so you can have as much as you want! Highly recommend this place. We will be back!

First of all, the people working the restaurant are friendly and helpful. That being said, the best dish we've had was not meat. We've ordered an empanada with mozzarella, the vegetarian tacos, the Meat Lover, and the Provoleta Y Pan A Chapa. I wasn't expecting any great cuts of meat (and to be honest, I know very little of meat, so please keep me right if I'm wrong), but most of the Meat Lover felt like constant fight with the meat. It wasn't tender, and most of it was hard to chew through. My jaw was quite tired by the end. The empanada was okay. It is simple, tastes fine, and is inexpensive. The cheese and bread were fairly good, though don't expect anything crazy - it's just oven-baked cheese and some bread. Still, it is a good starter, at least for me. The vegetarian tacos were the best. The veggies tasted like a ragu, and really worked well. For me this was a miss on the meat, though.

Very cosy setting . I loved the wood burning stove, it was lovely and warm on a cold winter day. They do BYO and Dan Murphy's is a us only a few minutes walk away. The highlight were the empanadas and churros. Probably the best churros I've ever had. They were crispy and generously coated with cinnamon sugar on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside.

What a complete disappointment. Service slow and not attentive and not helpful. No champagne flutes and when the table next to us arrive (it was only 7.20pm at this stage) they had run out of wine glasses!!!

Started with empanadas...they were actually OK. Then everything went down hill.

Wanted to order the pork shoulder..apparently 7.20pm on a Saturday night they had already run out...seriously? So husband and I ordered the rump, chips & bearnaise sauce with sides of vegetables and the lentil salad. Son ordered the lamb ribs, chips, lentil salad. We had asked for medium rare...there was no medium rare to be seen completely well done. The chips were crispy shards of chips. The lentil salad was supposed to be lentils, beetroot and feta. I think there were shards of beetroot and no feta to be seen and the vegetable were carrots and crunchy potato with bits of onion and a couple of mulchy cherry tomatoes cut in half. The son's lamb rack was SO fatty he could hardly eat anything.

When asked how the meal was we told the waitress and she came back and said 'well you should have told us at the start'...we may have if we had even seen her! Then she said do you want us to cook you another meal now so we can do better? Seriously??? I would have preferred a discount/lamb removed from bill.

If you want good service and good food do not go to El Asador. And it is not cheap...most meals are around the $40 mark!!!

I really wanted to like this restaurant last night but unfortunately it wasnt to be. We finally decide to order only to be told the rib eye is not available, why can't wait staff inform you of this when you are first seated? Nothing shits me more to be honest. No sooner has the last meal order left my mouth and the menus are whisked away without even asking if drinks were wanted. It wasn't until halfway through our starter that I had to ask if I could order a drink. The Provoleta was the one really enjoyable dish. The rump was bland and being cut unevenly meant the steak was cooked unevenly. I feel after looking at some reviews that we were possibly unlucky. Quite disappointed.

We had the tasting plate and it was really just a bunch of tough meat that had been BBQd. There was some chimmi churri on the side and that was nice but overall anyone could have cooked what we had. It might be worth trying the a la Carte options but I won’t be in a hurry to go back. Shame because I like walking distance and I love meat.

We were very disappointed with our main meals this evening.
We ordered a rib eye and rump , medium rare. Both were medium to well, and the rump, sinewy. We did mention it to the waiter during the meal and the manager after paying and felt there was no genuine apology given nor concern shown.
These were not cheap meals . At $40.00 for a rib eye, you would expect it to be right.
On a positive note, the empanadas were delicious.
3 courses of dinner for 4, plus BYO wine was a touch under $200, so its not expensive, nor cheap. The service was underwhelming, we waited a long time to order dessert, but persisted as the main course we ordered (share plate for 4) wasn’t filling enough (this was after 3 extra entrees).
Empanada and croquetta were very nice, most of the meat was a touch dry, and tasted of the same spice rub. Dessert was of a size that matched the price, and nice, but nothing particularly exciting. The dulce de leche tasted like it came from a jar, not house made, same with the bbq sauce.
We had all heard great things about this venue, but it did not live up to expectations. Overall it was a nice dinner, but we wouldn’t go back.

We went to this very small place for lunch and had a wonderful meal here! The have the traditional wood/coal BBQ that uses a crank to adjust the grill over the coals to cook the meat perfectly, together with a wood fired oven. This is all done just behind the counter so you can see the food being cooked. There were many variety of meats and dish combo's that included beef, lamb, chicken & pork, and the taste was just like what we had tried in Argentina, where the owners are from I believe. You must give it a try and definitely book for the evenings.

After many months of wondering, I finally got to eat at what is now my new favourite local. I didn’t realise there were cute rooms out the back and a really lovely atmosphere - local, friendly and vibrant. The food was delicious (beef empanadas were amazing) and the service great. Can’t wait to go back.

Came here with a groupon voucher for two. It was bitterly cold outside but the restaurant was warm and cozy thanks to the charcoal grill in the corner. We started off with one empanada each - one was chicken and the other was tomato and mozzarella. Both were really crispy and delicious. Then we shared a platter that included three types of meat - pulled pork, chorizo and lamb with a stack of tortilla and two different salsas. All the meats were smoky and tasty but slightly dry, though better with the salsas. We left feeling really full and satisfied. Great meal and definitely will be back again

So... decided to try this place... very excited ,empanadas very tasty... pastry light and fluffy not oily at all...BBQ chicken smoky and not dry the breast still nice and juicy...chimichurri served in little jars also very nice... not very happy that the waitress omitted to tell us that salad accompanied most dishes we ordered letting us order the exact same salad as a side dish... but here's the big gripe...$25.00 for four lamb ribs with hardly any meat on them... not good 😒...that why I gave a two star rating...

A meat-tastic meal with my Eating Club mates...
Staff were super lovely and helpful :) ... we had a groupon and they treated us like gold.

Starters- 3 kinds of empanadas and bread with delicious garlic and chilli salsas....all yummy and freshly made.
Mains- a platter of mixed meats...smoked, bbq'd and broiled... we had a smogarsboard of beef, chicken, pork and blood sausage.
Plus a platter of pulled meats with soft tortillas.... super tasty and perfectly cooked, all of it!
Dessert- EXCELLENT caramel stuffed churros with extra dipping choc and cream (thank you to the manager!!!)
And tres leche cake (a lil dry tbh).

Lovely dinner indeed :)

Love this place for its authentic food, relaxed atmosphere and the fact it is independent and owner run. Definitely try the churros. I also love the melted cheese dish with home made bread.

Very good! Had the skirt steak and the lamb ribs. Both very good. The ribs super tender. Really nice young chef behind the counter. Gave us a sample of the pork belly. Wish we ordered that. Juicy, tender and crunchy. Chimichuri cuts through the fat too. Churros for dessert. Much better than any I had before. Pretty quiet late Saturday night. Can’t believe no one else has found this place. You have to go!!!

Amazing food, really authentic, if you want to try real Argentinian grill is the place to do it, enough to share with other person ( I ordered the completo) and the price is really good, I've been Argentina so I could say that is a piece of Buenos Aires in Perth , I'll go back.

I took the family for breakfast and it was great. The kids loved the pancakes and the soft tacos were amazing. I would definitely recommend it for any meal of the day. Very authentic and a lovely young family who own and run it.

Shared a steak and ribs with my wife, both meals very tasty, meat cooked to perfection and the little condiments on the table were delicious on both the meat and the chips. Definitely will be returning asap

The service was extremely good and welcoming and the food was delicious, the meat was very good and the chimichiri ( green dipping sauce) is delicious

A very welcome, authentic addition to Perth's food scene. Great flavour coming off the parilla, especially loved the morcilla, dorper lamb ribs and beef ribs.
Will be back to try choripan and morcipan for sure. Oh and really nice house made chimmichurri too.

Designed for takeaway but can cater a small number of people. If you're in the mood for some Argentinian style grill, then this is the place. Menu is simple but very satisfying. There is a selection of meat in bread or just good old fashion meat (and a little salad). I loved the black pudding sausage and the roast beef. Plus, the chips come doused in chimichurri. Yum! Very friendly service with the owners cooking and attending the customers. Enjoyed our dinner. Thanks Max & Emily x
