Review The Butchers Arms - Perth

Summary: Overpriced, low stock, long wait times for service and meals. Nice location. We went for lunch and took ages to get service. When ordering told they were out of the one brand of beer. I asked for salad instead chips. Ended up with chips which by time my meal arrived I didn't want to risk sending back due to long wait time. I'm glad I had chips to make up for lack of steak sandwich (2 pieces of bread with few steak strips in between). My colleague had the fish fingers sandwich that was even worse.

Average food, horrible seats and bad music. I was looking forward to a nice juicy burger with beetroot and I was disappointed by the meal. There was a lot of sauce that over powered the taste and made it difficult to eat. My bun was a little too toasted (burnt). The mince pattie was rare and not cooked through - which is unusual in a burger but I don't mind raw beef. The chairs are these heavy awkward. I struggled to get in and out of them. Glad I wasn't in a hurry. My friend and I both commented that someone with weird tastes was choosing the music - not so much akin to the lunch crowds but something that might be better played in an off-beat club. I won't bother to go there again. Thanks for the experience.

So, we arrived at 7pm as booked and were shown to our table upstairs. We were given menus and a staff member started taking drink orders. I then let her know that we had a Cudo booking so the menus were removed and we were given a different menu as expected. I suggested that instead of serving 18 glasses of wine it might be easier to put the bottles on the table. Some of us went downstairs to order beers and ciders and there seemed to be some problems with the taps. We were charged $11 for pints of cider and were then told that the taps weren’t working so we were handed Somersby bottled cider instead, we were given no other option for ciders. I queried the price, as we paid $11 for a pint and bottled Somersby is not a pint but I was told that the price was the same (Somersby isn’t even listed on the menu on the website). For starters we were offered the crispy squid, beetroot salad and Yorkshire puddings. The crispy squid was good, the beetroot salad didn’t contain beetroot, it had pumpkin instead which was good but we weren’t informed about. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt and cold, this was the biggest disappointment as half of our group were English and the other half a married to them so we are all very familiar with a good Yorkshire pudding. The mains were great, no complaints there, however just after 9pm when the staff started clearing the main dishes away we asked to see the dessert menu and were told that the kitchen was closed and there are no dessert options available (Puddings are listed on the menu on the website). We stayed up at the table until just after 10pm, the staff did not come back after clearing the table and we were not even offered coffees. As we were leaving the premises the staff were all sitting at the bar drinking. We definitely won't be returning here!

7pm on a Saturday night our party of 8 turned up for our pre-booked reservation. As we started to order we were met with "sorry we only have one serving of fish and chips left, " followed by, "we're out of the chicken parmigiana," followed by, " sorry we only have one rump steak left!" We then asked, well can you tell us what you do have? The waiter apologised saying it had been very busy the night before. I do believe there are things called shops open in Perth on a Saturday that one could use to restock in order to feed patrons who'd booked well in advance or at least perhaps contact said patrons and let them know 1/2 the (very simple) menu is off and perhaps they might like to book somewhere else.

My colleague and I went to this place for lunch. As we arrived it took the waitress (blondish, tall, american accent) several minutes to bring us the menus. Then again we waited 15 minutes before she took our order. When we asked what a sarnie was, she said "dude, it's a sandwich". How is it acceptable to call customers "dude"? As our food arrived, my colleague asked for some aioli sauce, which she promised to bring, but we never got it, same with the bill we asked for. Twenty minutes after we finished our meals, the plates still remained on the table. When we wanted to pay, the girl was obviously to busy with her phone. It's a shame that we received such a horrible service as the food was actually really nice. Nonetheless we won't come again.

Scoopon deal for 4. I've only given 2 stars due to the wine. We noticed that a $50 bottle of Pinot noir was actually the same $9 bottle from Dan Murphy and the $39 house red was even worse, it was Dan Murphy's very own bowlers run which sells for $2.58, they probably get it cheaper than that. I don't mind the mark up on wines but at least try and get a decent $20 wine if your going to charge that much. The starters were pretty poor but the steak was very good. The staff were friendly enough but I would have expected the manager to show his face and explain about the choice of wine. Would I go back, probably only for the Scoopon deal, early steak dinner then onto somewhere else for a drink.

Waiter conned my friends into paying $50 each, promising an "off the menu buffet for 6". Has the waiter been educated on what the definition of a "buffet" is? All they got was a platter of meat half the size of a family roast, which 6 guys finished in 10 minutes. Tried to make up for the obviously disappointing lack of food with a bowl of chips, which was also finished swiftly. Begrudgingly paid $50 each for a meat buffet they were falsely promised, whilst leaving hungry. Better off going to Lapa Brazillian which is $49 each for UNLIMITED meat... now thats a real buffet that will fill you up. Don't bother with this restaurant, would not recommend wasting your hard earned money here.

Went as a group of 6 and was sold on a "huge platter of meat that you will struggle to finish" that they gauranteed we would love. Whilst the meat was good it was far smaller than expected. I spent $50 on dinner and left hungry. Will not go back.
