Review Phill Bean Korean Restaurant - Perth

Sharon Teoh
We enjoyed the food and service was pleasant. We particularly liked the noodles, beef bulgogi and the spicy pork soup. Will likely visit again to try other dishes including their set menu which looks rather interesting.

Amazing Korean food. Probably one of the best venues to get Korean food in Perth. The food is authentic, affordable and well portioned. The restaurant space has quite a few seats but they are usually understaffed so there can be a bit of a wait for food. The wait is always worth it though! Of special note is their kimchi pancake and their stews which are best in class!! Pay a visit if you’re in the area!

It's my first time at Phil bean. My friend has been there many time. She recommended me to order set menu. We chose Jupiter set so you get 2 starters, 2 soup 1 sizzling and 1 noodle dish to share. It was good value for $25/person so you can try a bit of everything. My pork bone soup was delicious and the spicy pork bulgogi was yummy too. It was busy today lucky we got the table but I'd recommend for anyone to make a booking

Oh, lucky am I? Served by a friendly and polite young lady who spoke with an Aussie accent. This restaurant started about 5 years ago. The dishes we ordered were Tokbokki, beef bibimbap, spicy squid, and kimchi pancake. The sauces for all dishes gave a balanced taste, not salty and not sweet. The flavours were just nice. All dishes were tasty. More like home cook type, and we didn't feel thirsty after the meal. By the way, the kimchi pancake is not the crispy type but a bit soft that may meet your choice. This restaurant is also suitable for family gathering. There are enough free car parking bays around the Shelly Hub. Cheers!

Easily one of the best, most underrated hidden gems for Korean food in Perth. Delicious food and a menu that ventures past the go to dishes, makes this place very exciting. The set menu options are so fantastic.

I’m glad that Phill Bean is located close to where I’m staying as the food is absolutely amazing! Clean and healthy and it certainly fills you up. This is going to my all time favourite Korean restaurant in Perth. If you’re a fan of JaJeungMien (black bean noodles with ground meat), be sure to order this at Phill Bean. Make sure you get the soup as well, we’ve ordered pork bone soup and it tasted really refreshing and it warmed us up especially on a rainy day. In terms of drinks, be sure to order the Honey+red dates tea, it’ll definitely soothe your throat. In overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here, will be coming here again real soon!

Went in late on a Monday night (we arrived around 8.40pm and the kitchen was about to close even tho the closing time from Google was 9.30pm) we have been greeted from the friendly waitress and been told that she would squeeze us in, after having a look at the menu we were a bit disoriented but she was able to guide us through the selection of the dishes, we picked the vegetables bulgogi the beef short ribs and the egg and tofu soup, our favorite was the ribs, was sweet full of flavour and super tender, everything was delicious so we made sure to don't leave anything in the plates. The ambience is cute, really simple and functional, I believe it was some sort of dance school, it's one of the shop in a small neighbourhood shopping center, perfect for families and friends low budget dinner. The food was delicious well presented and the staff knowledgeable and friendly. 5 stars all the way Thanks.

Really good and traditional Korean food. I go to this restaurant nearly every week and it has never dissatisfied me!! It can get busy sometimes but it’s not a really major thing. Phill Bean offers free side dishes which some other Korean restaurants might not. The jjajangmeyon and 물냉면 is by far the best I’ve had.

Heard good things about Phill Bean so when we're around the area we'd came and try. Though somewhat did not meet our expectations. We dis order the jupiter set menu. Firstly, everything tasted sweet sweet sweet which my palate could not accept. Dumplings and seafood pancake from that package did not deliver at all. Galbi tang which what I came here for was actually tasty, though after a while I lost my appetite as it was too sweet for my taste. The meat also tasted like as if it was seasoned, frozen then served with the soup. Haemul sundubu though was heavenly good. The seafood combination and the taste of fire in a soup served in an earthen pot was just amazing, great to have with rice as well. Lastly, naengmyeon also not the best but definitely something I'd come back for, so tasty and just great for summer. While it wasn't the best experience it was enough for me to want to come back and try other foods and have that tasty haemul sundubu again.

Best authentic Korean in town and value for money. Small and cosy place. For winter this is the place to be. Galbi soup for the Win! If you're feeling sick.. Galbi Soup wins again. Clear soup.. Mmmmm

My friend and I were craving for some hot tasty Korean stew, when this uniquely named restaurant caught our attention. Is Phill Bean the owner? Is the speciality dish beans?  Or maybe the owner just felt like Phill Bean was the correct name for a restaurant. We questioned our GPS as it lead us through the neighbourhood and much to our delight, we pulled right up a small row of shops. The interior felt very relaxed and homey, and the waitresses were kind and prompt with our orders. <br/><br/>I ordered the galbi stew, which came out piping hot and with a fresh bowl of rice. The meal tasted like a home cooked meal, the flavours aren't striking or sharp which is a testament to the lack of artificial flavourings. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. I was pleased not only by the meal, but by the pricing as well, a place which would make keep many restaurants honest. <br/><br/>Definitely will return again. And we did find the answer to the name of the restaurant, but you'll have to find that out when you read the first page of the menu!
More Than Nourishment
Wow what a neighbourhood gem. We travelled 25min to get to try this place based on the high reviews. It lived up to expectations and was worth the drive. We tried the rice cakes, seafood pancake and spicy pork bulgogi. Every dish was flavoursome and delicious. Food came out and service was efficient. It worked out to be $20pp and we were stuffed. Already planning our next visit!
Comida
Casual place in the Shelley suburb for some authentic korean food. The food is relatively cheap with a decent serving size. Friendly and fast service.
Food Mania
Food is good. Staff is very friendly. It is authentic Korean restaurant. It is doing local business. Recommended to try out. Price is reasonable. Will go there again.

A neighbourhood gem this place is. Serves authentic tasting Korean food, with many of their customers being Korean. Went on a random weekday for dinner and before 6 pm the restaurant was already really busy with families having dinner. Had the pork bone soup to warm myself up. Pork meat was fall off the bone texture and the soup was well seasoned. Side dishes were refreshing. The meal was healthy and not overly greasy

Overall delicious, comforting hot soups and dishes especially if you're not so up for Korean bbq. From what we had, only let down I reckon was the pancake, not very flavorful, a bit too much batter and not enough of the other ingredients (ie vege/seafood).
Signaturepui
Order hot clay pork and beef bimbibap.very stingy with the meat and used one tablespoon mince meat (boil no flavor) instead real slices of pork/beef. Came out not the real Korean hot clay pot style . Not worth it $14.50 each. Only good thing was the side dishes. Poor service. Won't be returning. Dissapointed! Had so much air in tummy afterwards, not fresh. Rather eat somewhere else. Thumbs down !

Lovely Korean restaurant tucked away in the middle of Shelley. I have been here for quite a few times. They do set menu for 2 people, 4 people and etc. I do recommend everyone to try their set menu and you would get to taste their variety of entre and mains. I like their gal bi tang (ox tail soup) and jap chae. Their ventilation system is better compared to your normal korean bbq restaurants.

One downside of the day: waitress forgot my order and I had to wait 30min for my soft tofu soup.<br/>But the soft tofu soup was DELICIOUS and this is coming from a Korean who loves her soups 😂 <br/>Friends got the beef bone soup which was also delicious<br/><br/>You can also get the set menus which are slightly pricier but you do get a decent portion of food<br/>When I crave Korean food- this will be my go to.<br/>Dont expect clean interior as the building is quite old and there is no a/c so gets very hot<br/>Also they should hire more waitresses the poor girl was so busy<br/>Parking is not a problem as it is free in the block
Finleyhimawan
Quick and casual place for korean food. The food portion is good and it is quite authentic, we tried the tok-boki, seafood pancake and beef bulgogi. The food is quite nice and service was quick and hassle free. The side dishes are also included. Pricing wise it is very reasonable compared to other korean restaurants, so if you’re looking for value for money, this would be the place.

Pls keep this a secret so it won't be so crowded..i think this say it all about it but this review required 140 words. So family and I been going there because there is the authentic taste of Korean food and gosh my wife love the bibibamp hehe.. She had it twice in a month! The spicy pork bone soup is a must and yes we are going back there again and again!
Hangrypanda
food is great as always in this cosy small eatery. This place is such a hidden gem. If you do your research well, you will end up wandering into an isolated suburb like this just to stumble upon an awesome korean kitchen on the south side.

I like their korean food so much that I wish I can come every day. This was my second time visit and we ordered the Jupiter banquet set that includes the vegetarian fried dumpling, seafood pancake, kim chee tofu soup (spicy but my all time favourite), pork bone soup (spicy but tolerable) and japchae. Food was tasty and well-balanced. We ended up very full but very satisfied 😍 love their traditional restaurant set-up. It looked like they were short of staff but the food came out quite fast. Highly recommend to all Korean food lovers!
Nicole Mao
Very very very poor service , will not come back again ...............
Kun
Ordered Cold Noodle, Seafood Tofu Soup and Beef Bibimbap. The Bibimbap and soup were very good. Also, the free side dishes provided were nice. Unfortunately the cold noodle with full of big chunks of ice was a bit too freezing in this cold weather, though the taste was great. Would not order the cold noodle in here again, but will come back to try other dishes.
Elaine Tan
Since the change of owners, the staff here are very rude (unless your Korean). <br/>Few times we have been here, the waitress just gives you a CBF attitude and takes forever to even take your order. <br/>Tonight we walked in, no menus, didn't clean the table, didn't offer a baby chair. Completely ignored us. <br/>We walked out. <br/>Their food is pretty average too. There are better Korean food around. 🙄
Theoutspoken
Today we tried this restaurant for the first time. But we came out disappointed. To start with the prices are on the high side as compared with other Korean restaurants. We tried the Bibimbap, unlike other Korean restaurants, the serve was so small and the meat used was minced meat and not solid meat. The taste was not tasty at all. Worst still we were charged few dollars more than the price list, we didn't pay attention to the bill details till we reached home and noticed we were overcharged. Not a pleasant experience. Definitely won't come back to support them.
Colin McOrsum
Tasty meal, hands down the best Bulgogi in Perth. Small menu done exceptionally well, no fusion, just purely Korean goodness. <br/><br/>My wife and I have eaten Korean food all over Perth and this place is the best we've been to. Closest thing to going there! <br/><br/>Think I've found my new favourite place to eat.

Been here a few times now. The place is always busy so it's better to make reservation prior. Tried few different dishes like japchae, bibimbap and spicy pork soup. Flavours are really good. The broth for the spicy pork soup is strong and delicious. Love it

Finally tried this local Korean treasure. It didn't disappoint, the service was really friendly and helpful with choosing menu items. We went for the Jupiter Set Menu as it was more economical for 2 people and super filling. The set came out pretty fast and mostly all at once so we weren't waiting for anything for too long. It was tasty and spicy with all the kimchi. The set invoiced seafood pancake, fried pork dumplings, jap chae, spiced chicken bulgogi, spicy beef soup and beef short ribs soup! Loved the jap chae (sweet potato noodles). Would recommend this place for good Korean.
Joyce Leong
Busy place, little neighborhood gem which you know rocks great Korean food as evidenced by the strong Korean crowd present daily. Try the banquet meals - great selection of their recommended dishes, go with friends armed with an appetite.
LittleAsianGirl
Tried this place today. Made a reservation as we were going to be a larger group. Very home style dishes here. We had the spicy cold noodles which was actually not bad. They gave extra mustard and vinegar to dress the noodles which made it more tasty. We also had the deokbokki. It didn't stand out, was ok. He seafood pancake is nice. Good crunch on the outside. The pork bone stew was delicious. It had a meaty hearty flavour with spice. The seafood tofu stew was ok. Not the best. The jap chae was not bad. Would come back to try some other dishes, especially the Korean Chicken ginseng soup.
Eat For Living
Never known stone throw away from my house there is such an authentic korean diner. It is not a flashy decorated restaurant but with food taste like this, whose care about the decor. Ginseng chicken a must try. The short ribs beef soup is heavenly good. You will appreciate more during those cold winter days.

Phill Bean is my favourite for Korean restaurant now! I always love Korean food but I had no favourite place yet. <br/>7 out of 10 tables were filled with Korean group/family when we visited. I'm amazed! We had kimchi pancake, toppoki, pork bone soup & galbi. All of them were spot on, flavours well balanced & tender meat. Tasted just like the meals we had in Korea. Will be back soon to try other dishes :)
Edvin Tan
Love their Kimchi pancake, so yummm! Service and others food are good especially hot pot pork* Thumbs Up* Environment and services are good too.

We went as a group of 6 to this place. We ordered the banquet. It was more than enough food.<br/><br/>The pricing was reasonable per person when we split the bill. Food was authentic. <br/><br/>Plenty of koreans eat at this place so that's a promisimg sign. For a reasonable price and deal this place is a must visit.

안녕하세요.  필빈 식당은 갈만해요. 가보시요.I went with a group of 8 last night and came away very satisfied. Six of us choose from the $30 'banquet' menu and the other two chose individual items. There was more food than we could finish and I think that's pretty good value. There was a $12 fee for corkage - I'm not sure how that was worked out.<br/>I do have some criticisms  and I hope the management will read and consider these things.<br/>The menu items have names mostly in English except for an occasional Korean food name (Kimchi, Bossam, etc). I find the English name descriptions are often not enough to identify the actual dish (eg. "cold noodles") and they could use more Korean names for the dishes - romanized with a short English explanation. 'banquet' menu options are confusing.<br/>The 3 or 4 'banquet' menus are not actually banquets, at least in the form Australian customers are used to. They are really 'couple' menus intended for two people to share. The second group in the banquets are not intended for sharing and are presented in bowls for an individual. (You choose two items from the group - one each). The other groups on the menu are generally for sharing - although in the 4th group there is a choice of 'potato noodles' or 'cold noodles'. The former is a dish for sharing. The later is not. I at first the cold noodles would be something like soba until the waitress explained it was "naeng myun" so I choose it and then found it was "mul naeng myun" when it appeared. <br/><br/>On a previous occasion, I went with a group of seven and they couldn't do the 'banquet menu for seven people. I think we chose one of the banquet menus for 6 people and an individual dish for the seventh. It's not a major problem but it does create confusion for people that don't know Korean cuisine. I've lived in Korea for 20 years so I've got some idea.<br/><br/>The layout of the menu could do with some improvement. Every time it takes me a little while to work out how many dishes I  can choose from  within the first grouping on the banquet menu.<br/><br/>Finally, when we got the bill and we tried to examine it to work out how to divide it up, I realised it was itemised in Korean. This could have been for my benefit because I had ordered my selection in Korean. Surely the bill should be presented to non-Korean customers in English so they may check what they are paying for.

Love their idea of doing banquet menu. Save so much time on deciding what to order. Although the food came out fast, I find that this place is often understaff. It's always one waitress doing all the job at front.
Foodie In Paradise
We ordered the banquet set which costs $30 per person. We had the seafood pancake, kimchi with tofu and steamed dumpling as our starter. The seafood pancake and dumpling taste quite average. <br/>The beef bulgogi and beef bibimbap were quite nice. The seafood tofu spicy soup was quite tasty but doesn't have much seafood in it. We didn't really like the jab chae too much . The Galbi jjim which was the braised short ribs was the best dish of all, very very yummy and totally enjoyed it. <br/>This restaurant get quite packed on the weekend so it is better to come early. Service was not that great, we waited a long time to get some tap water. Food arrived promptly.
BREAKFASTforever
Thank goodness a friend told me about Phill Bean - I never would have found it as it is hidden away amongst some small local shops in Shelley. Had takeaway beef bibimbap which was sooo delicious. Went with a friend for lunch a week later and saw that the dine in prices were more expensive than takeaway? For dinner I can understand but for weekday lunch it didn't seem right... Ordered pork bibimbap (which came with plenty of pickles and kimchi on the side) and also the jaechap. Both really yummy and would probably come back for a nice dinner date or just takeaway next time instead of lunch.

First time I came here which was back in 2015, both food and service was amazing. It seemed like the owner has changed. Because the last time we went there, we had a friendly korean man who served us. But just went there last week and received the shittiest service and the shittiest bibimbap. The first thing we noticed when we walked into the restaurant was that all the customers were korean. The waitor/restaurant owner who was a woman this time, was rude and impatient when serving us. And the best part was, it was only to US.  She wasn't like this towards her other korean customers. In fact she was laughing while speaking friendly as ever in korean to them. We were the only people in the room who weren't korean. And now thinking back to it, I'm not supprised we were the only non-koreans. The 4 seated table we sat in had only 2 sets of cutlery. Thought they would give it to us once we received our food but they didn't. And so we kindly asked for 2 more pairs, which they came back from the kitchen with only one pair. Had to ask them again and this time the woman who came back with it, not only failed to seem apologetic but even seemed irresponsibly impatient with us.  Also, the meat portion of the entire bibimbap was entirely cheap minced meat, meat portion was as small a tablespoon of the entire dish. Couldn't even tell the difference between pork and beef bibimbap because of this. The sauce they came with it was also lacking in portion. Overall the taste lacked in spices and overwhelming msg flavour. Once we left the restaurant, we also realised they didn't serve us the little appetising dishes (kimchi, radish) which we should've have gotten in the beginning of the meal like all the other korean customers. Truly disappointed, honestly has downgraded since last year. The only positive aspect from all this was the seafood pancake, which remained as good as always. Other than that, service, racist discrimination and quality of the food not worth the price.  Honestly never knew such racial discrimination still exists in this current society
Onglianwah
Used to eat here, but the last few times we were there, the service is bad. They serve us only 1 portion side dish for 6 person when v usually have 2 portions. When v ask the waitress, she just ignored us. This is our last time here

Deliciously tasty Korean. We had the Seafood Pancake and Kimchi Pancake to share for starters then had the Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Spicy Chicken Bulgogi and Jap Chae for main. <br/><br/>Lots of flavour and great serving sizes. Casual dining. The Owner is lovely.
Ahra
Why am I seeing negative reviews?! As a korean, this is hands down the best authentic Korean food I have tried in a while & this is my favourite korean restaurant in perth. Many other korean restaurants seem to lack on korean dishes and focus more on Korean BBQ instead but this place is absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend Ox Tail Soup and the galbi as my favourites. The prices are reasonable and the setting/atmosphere is cozy and a great casual night.
Anonymonster
This place does alright korean food. Great for a semi-formal/casual night out where you just want to treat yourself to something nice and something local. Prices aren't too bad.
Cassie
Had a nice bowl of bibimbap here, I liked that it came with actual strips of beef bulgogi instead of just minced beef, which I don't like. I also liked that it came with an actual fried egg, unlike someplace else where they used shredded egg omelette.
Matchalover
Came here for dinner a few months ago and ordered a banquet. Had kimchi and tofu side dishes which were quite small. The bibimbap was ok. It was quite pricey for 2 people, but it was expected since it was a banquet. The beef dishes and clear noodle dish were average. Nothing spectacular. If I come here again I would order separate dishes, not a banquet.
Basosapi
Late post. Came here for early dinner few weeks ago. To have dinner here you have to either book or came early like us. We came when they just open. The place filled up pretty quick. Food was good. Love the pancake but the spicy soup was not as expected. I've had better soup, spicier and have more meat and stuffs in it. We ordered the set menu thing and it was very filling. Worth a try if you never been but I still prefer Took Be Gi in CBD.

THIS KOREAN RESTAURANT WAS AWESOME :)))<br/>I had a high expectation when I heard about this restaurant from a Korean friend. When I went there, the staffs were very nice and the meals were VERY NICE. I heard from my friend that the chef - the owner had changed since last year. This restaurant is one of my favorites so far, I will go there again soon :))
Hippo309
The spicy seafood egg tofu soup with rice was yummy. Some big mussels, few pieces of prawns and squid. Small restaurant but very slow front of house service. Takes long time for drinks and had to wait long time for a cup. Hard to get the attention of the staff. Love the yukgaejang, but somehow they always run out of it.
Rikkimetz7
Lovely.. We went to there last night. Wow. The food was beautiful with great value for money especially in the special 2 ppl offer. Waiter staff are friendly and warm and welcoming. I would certainly recommend this plc for anyone who is wanting the Korean food experience. I WILL be returning. Best to book on weekends.. Thank you all for beautiful food. P.S I was in sth Korea for 3 months and this food is way up there. :-) D + R Metz.

Banquet A. Really tasty food n friendly waitstaff.

Loved the food. Spicy and delicious

Lovely local. Family of 7.. Had all the individual soups (6) plus a pork dolsot bibimbap for just under $100. Nice, quiet surburban local with pleasant, attentive service, delicious flavours, fair price. I really recommend this place! Especially good for a casual dinner date, good friend catch-ups and family meals. They do take away too =)
Carolyn_yee
Reduced food quality. We had beef hot pot. The soup stock is sweeter than it used to be. Also the ingredients have changed. Used to have tofu, carrots but now no more. We used to go there lots before the change in management. A little disappointing for us this time.
Matsamune_blades
Probably good before, absolute rubbish now. They were closed for a long time as there was some problem with the power and that's understandable - there are some things that cannot be avoided. We went to the restaurant twice and on the third try we decided to call first and yes - they were open! Finally!<br/><br/>Going by the advice of 2 of my mates that had been there before the power outage, we decided to try the place out in a group of 6. As some reviews would have mentioned, there is now the option to go for a pay-per-person buffet instead. So far so good right?<br/><br/>And here is where it starts to go downhill. The owner started pushing really hard for us to go for the buffet. We politely declined as we wanted a set meal each. After looking through the menu, we decided to order. And now here is where it just gets nightmarish.<br/><br/>Asked for grilled mackerel - they said they didn't have it that day. Asked for a chicken bibimbab instead - they said they didn't do it. Asked for a home-made soy milk special drink, that was unavailable too. That seems all reasonable, right? Perhaps they didn't have mackerel that day, or they didn't have any CHICKEN that day? Maybe their soy bean supplier ran out of soy beans (Apparently Phill Bean also means for the love of soy beans or something similar?). Who knows? You'll find out soon...<br/><br/>After ordering out dishes, we noticed one of the waiters going around the buffet, taking rice into bowls and picking out vegetables and meats with chopsticks and bringing it into the kitchen. Later the bowls were brought out with just a fried egg added on top for our super authentic bibimbab. Horrifying. Now we realize why there wasn't any mackerel or chicken or soy beans etc. The restaurant has simply degraded to using the buffet for all purposes. How easy and cheap is that for the cook? Just cook the same things over and over again in bulk to fill up the buffet trays.<br/><br/>One of my mates ordered a bulgogi noodle dish. Guess what? No noodles. Wow.<br/><br/>I personally ordered a coke zero and I thought it tasted funny and very watery. At first I thought it was just the spiciness of the food making me taste the coke funny, but I later looked under the can and it said "Best Before: xx/Feb/2014" - it is May at the moment. Bringing this to the attention of the owner simply resulted in a reply of "We'll take a look at it"<br/><br/>And to top it all off, one of my other mates ordered a soupy rice - we were all finished and he was still waiting. We requested a takeaway but they declined saying it was "on the way". We insisted and they eventually decided to give us a discount after some persuasion- $8 off on a $88 bill. Pathetic.<br/><br/>Never going back here again - pretty sure the review about "Wow there is now a buffet for $xx what amazing value!!" was posted by the owner. (I mean ffs his name is countryBEAN and he has just ONE review). Absolutely disappointed after all the hype and good reviews about the restaurant. Even my 2 mates that initially said the place was good have commented on the significant fall in quality.

Very Dissapointed. Wanted to go on a nice family dinner to Phillbean on wednesday and got screwed over. I tried calling several times to see if they were open and make a reservation, however, all attempts failed. I tried going there, hoping that it was open but was let down. Why didn't they change the time on their website??? Why didn't they notify any of their valued customers??? I am again extremely disappointed.

Just re-opened. I met up with the Korean owner and he said he had to go back to Korea for a few months to deal with a few things. Now he is back again! Phill Bean has just opened yesterday but changed it's concept to Korean Buffet for $28 (I think) for 15 dishes! Wow! What a deal!
Teresa Joung
Does anyone know if the restaurant is still in business? I tried calling them so many times and went to the restaurant to see if they are open but it seems no one is there.

Went for dinner after work to Phill Bean and was pleasantly surprised. The dining area although sparse was very clean and lots of space between tables. The waiter/owner was very helpful when ordering as we were first time Korean diners. We had an entrée of vegetarian dumplings and a cheesy egg roll. They were both great. For mains we had vege bibimbap and jae cha noodles. Happy with the service & the food. Would def return again :)

Food are really nice and delicious and service is very good as well!

Local gem. From the first time i stepped foot inside, the owner was amazing!<br/>every time i go in, he still smiles and remembers me. Great customer relations!<br/>the kimchi pancake is awesome.
Ali
Bibimbap yum. Phill Bean is my fave local fast food choice. Bibimbap is so light and refreshing and usually ready in 10 minutes unless they are flat out. It's so simple and plain, but smother it with that chilli sauce and all of a sudden it's heaven. AND even better they make a real salty spicy ma po tofo, my favourite chinese dish with a nice Korean twist (add some mushroom and grated carrot).

Owner is One nice man. Phill Bean has quite authentic korean food for a decent price, it does bring good flavours in with the bulgogi however i have noticed that some dishes do lack flavour but overall is still quite nice. The owner is very nice hard working korean man who is very friendly probably the best and most memorable customer service i have had which i find very important. Worth a visit if your in the neighbor hood.<br/><br/>Regards<br/>J Food Ratings

The food was awesome! Exactly like Korea where ive been before. Their entree dish was delicious! Love them. The customer service was great! Thumbs up! Totally satisfied. Will definitely come back again :)

Soups lack spice and flavour than other Korean I've had. There were more soup and not much ingredients, only six little pieces of pork in our kimchi and pork soup, and not much kimchi either. Winter menu's seafood udon didn't have all the seafood as advertised. Fried dumplings were small and dry. Very friendly service, good atmosphere and cheap prices, but food's just average and scanty with ingredients.

My favourite Korean restaurant. Delicious Bulgogi, cozy place, very friendly and generous owner, affordable prices - definitely my favourite Korean restaurant in Perth!
Daeyeon Kim
Good interior design and lights at the restaurant. Tried seafood tofu soup as the weather got me cold after exercise. Not so spicy soup and warmed me with few spoons. I'm lucky to live around. I want to try others next time.
Eatwithhendri
Awesome. This is indeed a hidden gem. food was great, authentic, home-cooked flavors, vege-friendly. I will be back soon for sure!

For entree, I had seafood pancake followed by beef ribs and spicy pork and squid bulgogi. This is my first time here and I really enjoy it. Definately will come back again. Would like to try the Banquet menu.

Fantastic Korean food and low prices. Best value in Perth. Excellent service and will be back

Went with hubby for dinner. Ordered spicy mackerel stew ($37)and was surprises by how generous the serving was. We ended up dishing our rice and eating only the vege n fish in the pot. ordered a honey citron drink and it was refreshing. Would def come back again!! Recommend to anyone after authentic n reasonably priced Korean.

New to Korean Food. 4 experienced diners but new to authentic Korean, had the most expensive banquet - $30 per head - good value.<br/>Most of the food was excellent although there was a bit of a sameness in the courses. The Seafood Pancake was brilliant.<br/>BUT - there was no list of courses (told to look up on their website since most are not on the menu)) and they were RUSHED through - with the table being piled up with more food well before we had appreciated previous courses. We had to ask the owner to stop. <br/>To the owners please:<br/>1) Offer a list of courses in the 3 Banquets<br/>2) Slow down - wait till one course has been finished - or double up maximum only on courses.<br/>Otherwise excellent. By 7.30pm the small restaurant was full of probably Koreans.

Awesome, we will return. The food was delicious, the owner welcoming and informative. We love this resturant.

Dont understand the high rating. Really average korean food. watery soup, fried dumpling dry like stone.....<br/>It is really overrated<br/>If you've never tried korean food, Took Bae Kee in city is a good standard

First time at Phill Bean tonight with my gorgeous fiancé. The food and service was spectacular and so reasonably priced! Will return for another meal very soon- 10 out of 10 :)

Excellent food with generous portions, I'd definitely recommend the emperor's galbi zzim (braised short rib), the meat basically melts in your mouth! The service is also so wonderful and incredibly friendly and welcoming so even if you're not Korean you don't need to feel uncomfortable eating there.

A very average Korean dishes. Lack of flavours and spices. Definitely wont be back for a while.<br/><br/>I personally would score them 5 out of 10 for their food.

Who's Phill?. Your silverware is accessible in the drawer of your table, your water is readily available, the owner walks around explaining all the dishes (if you don't know korean food) and genuinely enjoys welcoming you to his home cuisine. It was the only happening evening joint in the shopping outlet, and after the food came, we could see why. You must give this place a go, if not for a taste of Korea, then for the extremely friendly service, hard to find in Australia. Oh, and who is Phill?

Delicious but scant on pork. Ordered the kim chi and pork stew. Delicious. However, it was more kim chi than pork :(

New Winter Menu. Enjoyed a sumptious korean winter meal at Phill Bean. It was a lovely treat to have a nutritious mackerel stew to warm up the tummy in the cold air. I would recommend that you try this stew as well as the other new winter dishes... especially the beancurd, salad and pork belly combi, called Bossom. Delicious !!!<br/><br/>http://phillbean.com/our-winter-menu-2012/

Loved It. We loved this restaurant. Both myself and my boyfriend had never eaten Korean food before, so we were rather nervous when we saw the menu. The service at this restaurant was amazing. We were guided through the menu by the owner and everything that was recommended to us was amazing. We couldnt get enough! We have been back many times since and continue to go. It was so cheap as well! A good local find!

My partner I decided on eating at Phill Bean after reading the outstanding reviews on urbanspoon. I couldn't agree more. The food was authentic and faultless, particularly the kimchi pancake and beef ribs. The ribs were mouth watering and the meat just fell off the bone, cooked to perfection. Also, a big thank you to the owner for his personable, friendly and cheerful service. All in all, a fantastic Friday night dinner at Phil Bean.

I do say this is a gem located in a residential suburb. First time there and it is a family run shop, we were served by a very friendly guy. Their food was more to sweet dishes style but they are just nice to eat. The main dishes with ginseng powder I will recommend as hardly found at other restaurant. Kimchi pancake I do admit that it h the best I eaten so far. They served homemade kimchi n hv a fridge just to store kimchi. The owner said kimchi stock that they have is not enough and they have to make more fresh one. For those who don't know kimchi usually marinated for a while, theirs have marinated nearly a year..so do go enjoy this flavorsome batch of kimchi before finish.

#1 Korean restaurant in Perth!. Congrats on recently being voted the #1 Korean restaurant in Perth by Urbanspoon!!! Your excellent food, warm and friendly service, comfortable no nonsense ambience and value for $ prices are key factors to this!

Wonderful korean restaurant. Phill bean is a wonderful find in a suburban neighbourhood. My friends and I found out about the restaurant after researching for good restaurants on urbanspoon. We've been twice already and we absolutely love the food and the service. We were made to feel very welcome, and the food was absolutely amazing! We highly recommend the bibimbap and the jap chae! The warm citron tea is also lovely.<br/><br/>We also tried the "Heaven" banquet and you definitely get value for money at $30 each for a huge variety of dishes. They also let us take away the food we couldn't finish (they served quite a large quantity of food)!!<br/><br/>If you want to try somewhere new, this is definitely the place to go!

Good food!. Love the food here (and I've been told it's quite authentic) and have been here twice - the owner of the restaurant is very friendly and recommends different things to try each time. <br/><br/>I just hope that they have invested in a commercial rice cooker! We ordered quite a few dishes that day and waited about 40 mins to an hour for our food. Half of the waiting time was waiting for our rice which was cooking in a domestic rice cooker!! I have to say the food was great, that it was worth the wait, but I'd rather not wait, if it was rice that I was waiting for.

Absolutely delightful!. This new restaurant is probably on top of my list of recommendations to people now.<br/><br/> The restaurant is nicely lit and decorated, cozily tucked in a quiet area of Shelley suburb. The owner is one of the friendliest person I've ever met, and the service staffs are pleasant too. <br/><br/>Food is simply amazing! Tteokbokki is a must try, and I love the spicy pork noodles too. The menu has such a wide variety of food to offer, will definitely come back for more :)

Restaurant environment is warm and service is friendly. Unfortunately food isn't our taste. Will definitely have it's own customer, I will recommend others for it's healthy food because no MSG.

No MSG. It was a pleasant and fun experience eating at Phill Bean. Not only the food was amazing the service by the owner are brilliant. He introduce us to Korean street food that are hardly found in other Korean restaurant in Perth. The food here are NON MSG which is a thumbs UP!! if you love korean food, believe me Phill Bean is a must try!

Awesome food and warm service =). Really cosy place with awesome food. Had the seafood pancake, jap chae and bibimbap. The food was not too salty and oily and they even refilled our side dishes and gave us refreshing korean green tea. The service was impeccable, attentive and welcoming. Overall, we were very satisfied with our dinner and left feeling very warm and full of smiles from the great food and great service. We will definitely be back =)

Hidden Gem - Authentic Korean Food. Not the usual Korean BBQ type restaurant that seems to be all over Perth. This restaurant is in the middle of suburbia and has the decor to reflect it (nothing fancy). But the food is fantastic, authentic and slightly different from all the other korean restaurants in perth just specialising in korean bbq. We went in not knowing what to order and went with the staff recommendations which were fantastic! Also if you request spicy be prepared for it to be spicy!!

Nice tasting, well-priced Korean food. We had the seafood pancake, pork bibimbap and chicken bulgogi. The seafood pancake was really nice and is a must. Pork bibimbap was better than average and chicken bulgogi was average.<br/><br/>The owner is a very pleasant guy and so are the wait-staff. The food is also very well priced comparatively. Definitely going back there again for the seafood pancake and to try other stuff.

Friendly Service and good place to eat out. Went here for Saturday dinner with friends. Although we reserved a table and arrived on time, Hahaha we still needed to wait almost 15mins because it was packed with ppls. But the waits was worth it. We got free drink once we seated. Ordered kimchi pan cake for $8.50 and come out with thin and crispy pan cake which taste nice. Ja Jang mym (black bean sauce with noodle) the sauce taste really good . We ordered Rice cake in spicy sauce, which quite chilli and very authentic dish. One of the dish I was disappointed with seafood dish which over price and has 3 prawns, few crabs meat that cost us about $24. <br/>Overall excellent services and i recommended people to try it out.

SaSaaa. A treasure in an unassuming suburb. The korean food is genuine and generous and there is a lot of variety...there have dishes that you can't find in the korean restaurants in the city. The kimchee was 10mths old and tasted very good. Kimchee fried rice tasted different with very good chewy rice. The rice cake was very delicious but also very spicy so beware. The food is very tasty and good value for money. We had banquet style and ate so so much but it only amounted to 20 dollars per person. What a great find!!! I'll definitely be back!! The restaurant manager is very hospitable too and fun to talk to.

Bibimbap is great.. But too little meat.. Kim chee pork stew is abit bland.. Love the seafood pancake.. Chick bulgogi is a waste of time..  Service is friendly..

Excellent. Found this place driving around looking for somewhere. Was looking at the menu out the front when the owner came out to ask if i had any questions ( this is very rare to find the level of customer service). We gave it a shot, they are very happy to bring you there style of korean food which is simply amazing. We let the owner recommend some dishes too us and he asked if we liked hot ect was extremely helpful. Service was tremendous and the food was splendid. If your in the area and dont mind this style of food definatley worth a try. ill be going back

Unassuming gem in suburbia. A life saver for those too lazy to cook but wants home cooked/wholesome food. Warm service that might be one if the last vestiges of the 'customer comes first' principle

Great food, great service, great prices!. I have a disclaimer. I absolutely LOVE soy bean products and am a vegetarian. Secondly, I'm a bit tired of travelling out to congested cafe/restaurant districts to get a good meal (with so-so service). As a result, I consider Phill Bean to be a real gem hidden away in the suburbs. The staff and owner were extremely warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The food itself was wonderful! Fresh, tasty and most definitely satisfying. My friend and I shared the jelly entree (savoury, simple and flavoursome), black bean noodles and japchae (cellophane noodles with vegetables). Both noodle dishes were excellent, though I'd have to say the japchae was my favourite. The meals were authentic (this would account for the high traffic of Koreans at the restaurant - "you know it's good if the locals are eating there"); and very reasonably priced. The setting is very simple and casual, but who cares if the food and service is this good? I will definitely be back with friends from work, and hopefully for a family gathering also! Phill Bean gets two thumbs-up!

Awesome food experience. Only discovered phill bean last night as we wanted to go somewhere local. And what a great dinner experience it was! We didn't know what to order being unfamiliar with Korean food, so the boss ordered for us.The mackerel was juicy and flavorsome. All the other food well cooked and fresh. we will definitely come back. It's was great value for money! The interior needs a little bit of work still, but that comes with time I guess. I can recommend this place to anyone who likes trying new things and loves good produce and great cooking
