The sandwich is very unique.  It combines between Korean BBQ and Vietnamese bread which brings out the best taste that I ever try.  The staff are very friendly

Absolutely love this place. Admittedly I've only ever gotten the BMTs though but I can't move past them. Considering I'm quite a glutton, it's suprising that the small size at $6.50 (which is more of a medium than a small but I guess it's smaller than the giant ones at $10!) fills me up. The owners are Korean and Vietnamese which is a combo of my own background so I can tell you the flavours are somehow authentic but fused really well without losing the punch of the legit touches that can only come from two foodies firmly respectful of their own cultures!

My fave is the spicy pork but the crispy pork belly, spicy chicken - everything here is good! The BMT are basically your authentic bánh mì thịt roll except for the bread which is less of the French Việt style and less crumbly which is fine with me! It has all the authentic touches with traditional vegies and paté, with the Korean coming in the form of the meat and the marinades. It's delicious and fresh, and I like that the meat is quite generous compared to the few slices you'd get from a traditional Việt roll as that's usually more than enough pork flavour.

The service here is always very welcoming, polite and friendly - more in the Korean style which makes me sometimes awkward as I'm used to blunt Perth service! Haha - this is a great little spot for great value. A must try! And I'll have to try their rice or salad bowls next.

Better than getting a sandwich at Subway. Their baguettes have flavour and are fresh. Not bad for a quick lunch in the city. The staff are eager to serve and are friendly.

Nice little shop just at Hay Street offering a fusion of Vietnamese with Korean cuisine. The owner/staff there is very friendly, offering high quality and informative recommendation too. Smashup has 3 main dishes: banh mi, noodle, and toasties.

I tried the banh mi which was great. They came in 2 sizes, I chose the bigger one at $9.50. You can choose up to 2 meats (which I thought was cool) from an extensive options including bbq pork, roast pork, spicy chicken, beef bulgogi, tofu, prawn and mang more. I chose the spicy chicken and roast pork. The owner was thoughtful that he even went to the extend of putting the roast pork on the side closer to the opening of the bag so you would eat the roast pork first before the spicy chicken. That way, the spiciness would not dilute the flavour. I really appreciate this little but meaningful gesture. The meat was soft, well marinated and blend nicely woth the garnishes to form an overall great and tasty banh mi. My only recommendation would be to request for more sauce as I find some part was rather dry and could have been better with more sauce/garnishes.

The best sandwich in the world! Outstanding sandwiches from very friendly staff. The range of meat options and customizable salads is second to none. Imagine a premium, freshly cooked, vietnamese version of Subway.

When they said bowls I thought it meant poke bowls and Acai bowls but it was bowls of soup and noodles that featured. A nice hole in the wall.

The third bite was when the Viet flavours really hit their stride, when the crusty baguette and the freshness of the carrots and lettuce took a back seat to the burst of mint, coriander and grilled chicken.

Smashup is basically a superior Subway, located somewhat away past the City library. It works the same way - you choose a small baguette (dinner roll) for $6.50 or a large (6-incher?) for $9.50, you get a choice of sauce and salt & pepper to go with the mayo and butter, vegetables from classic shredded lettuce to the heart of a good Viet baguette - mint, coriander, spring onion - and a choice of meat. There's also the usual noodle salads, soups and a combo meal ala Chinese buffet, but you're not really here for that.

We got chicken, and the slices, tender and flavoured with red pepper paste, had the skin kept on them. You could see the grill marks on it, and both grill and skin made it taste fantastic. But what really made it - and this is coming from a carnivore by preference - were the Viet veggies. Not too pungent, not overpowering, but definitely showing up, making it well and truly a banh mi.

The owner who served us was friendly, walked the clueless pair of us through the selection, and to our relief kept the heat level from the red pepper down so it was hardly spicy at all. He does bring a good proportion of this place's charm. Oh, and the coffee was pretty all right too.

I was going to give this a 3.5, because at the end of the day a sandwich is still a sandwich, but again - it is a superior Subway, and if you think of it like that going in you'll get a 4.0 experience. Check it out if you find yourself in the quieter end of the CBD.

Tried the spicy pork banh mi which is a fusion of Korean and Vietnamese food. The bread was good and pork had nice flavour though was quite oily. My roll was good, but I prefer a more traditional banh mi. Owner was friendly and helpful.

A small establishment on the east end of Perth. It's a blend of Vietnamese and Korean inspired flavours. Relatively simple menu - 2 sizes of banh mi (Viet bread roll) or noodles as salad or egg noodles. I tried the banh mi with your choice of salads and meat. The bread was nice, not too soft or tough. I chose the soy chicken as the meat - the flavour was very fragrant and meat well marinated. Their egg noodle dish with choice of salad topping and meats was another well done dish. Noodles came out fragrant, roast pork was a bit dry but the bulgogi pork was good. I like the customisation they offer for each item. Filling and quick for work lunch. Friendly service too.

Great Spicy Chicken Roll and my mum enjoyed the Pork Noodle Soup while we're having lunch. They've outdone it.

Morning Banh Mi ☀️ Love when I come across small businesses that are doing things right. The owner’s got a cheerful way of greeting everyone that drops on by :) I was skeptical when I saw that I could grab a Vietnamese Banh Mi really quickly on my way to the early ferry to Rottnest Island. Thankfully I was impressed after the first bite. Safe to say it was a smash 😅 Great outdoor seats too 👌🏻 to watch the city come alive. Swing by if you’re in the area!

All the regular Cafe staples but they specialise in their Vietnamese / Korean fusion inspired food. Their large combination roll consists of all the best salad trimmings you might find in a Bahn Mi or Bao. But the meat choice (pick 2) is all of the Korean favourites, bulgolgi beef, spicy beef, spicy chicken, roast chicken, satay chicken, spicy pork, roast pork. Once you have one you will be a regular customer. Staff are super friendly and focus on fresh tasty food and amazing coffee. Been a regular myself for 5+ years

I love this cafe ....!!!!😇 John is one of the friendliest cafe proprietors I have met over the years.... He describes his food as a 'Smash up' between Vietnamese and Korean- as he is Vietnamese and his wife is Korean!! ( Well, that makes for a spicy and interesting cuisine, don't you think??🤔..) But he also has the same brekkies, lunch and take-away as any local cafe , and he serves up a great coffee!!!! BUT if you do want something spicy.... just ask for one of his famous spicy pork, chicken or lamb rolls ..... You will not regret it, I assure you.. Ps They are located just off the corner of Hay street and Pier street in the CBD's East End)
