Review Kitchen Inn - Perth

Matthew Yang
First time having a meal here. Had fried fish curry with rice and ban Mian soup for dinner. Portion is big and we enjoyed the food. Taste for both is pretty good but the fish curry is a bit too thick and I feel that the amount of fish is a bit little. Value for money Will come back here again to try the other dishes they've got.

They serve tasty Malaysian food. Service is fast & friendly. Place is spacious, clean restrooms & prices are very much standard. Location is great too with big parking space.

This is one of rarest and also the best chinese resto you will find in Perth that caters Vegetarian. All the menu can be requested with No Garlic. Great service from the staff! There is Formosa vegetarian restaurant at the complex but this joint is a great option!

Came for lunch and was not disappointed. Picture shown is the Kolo Mee Egg Special. Char siew a little dry and wasn’t the best but noodle and minced pork portions were generous. Sauce wasn’t to salty and you just got to add chilli oil in it to make it wholesome

Delicious noodles and rice with various meat combo. Value for money. Huge variety with malaysian coffee and tea available. We share 3 dishes among us 3 adults and 1 child. Surroundings are basic but service is quick. Good stop for a quick bite.
Xian Kai Tan
Humble Asian establishment with very polite and warm service. Food is priced reasonably given it’s Asian cuisine here in Perth and the portion is very generous. Ordered the chicken rice, dried ban mian & (pictured) kampua noodles special. All foods were up to standard!
Chee Lai
Super friendly, well priced and super delicious! Big fan of the chap kuey, chay kuey teoh, fried chicken and kampua noodles. My local go to!

Great food, they offer reasonable range of varieties with good prices. Good value for money. However, they are normally busy and hence relatively poor customer service.

Good family restaurant. Everything was tasty. We enjoyed our meals 👍👍👍 will definitely be back to try more items. Halfway through the meal, we realized an item was missing from our order. That was resolved very quickly 😁👍

The Kolo Mee has tomato ketchup and the noodles are soggy. Also, for some reason, noodles take longer to cook than rice dishes.
Yen
This is the worst kitchen in compare to the one in Thornlie and karrawara. No customer service whatsoever and the food is so much more oily.
Jill Sibbx
Gross. Unsanitary. Server wiped the table then put the dirty rug in the glass cup (used by previous customer) in front of the other customers whilst walking around the place. Very rude and just grabbed the plates without asking if we were finished. Won’t be back here again.

I’ve been here a number of times. But when I do these days I prefer having a takeaway. Food is not bad but I always cringe at the cleanliness of the place.
Rey Loh
Dis place be super gross. The only nice thing is kolo mee. Trust me folks, avoid pretty much everything that is not noodle related. I've seen monstrosities at this place... MONSTROSITIES.

Excuse me whilst I attend some therapy.

It’s cheap ,small , casual dining restaurant. Noodles were better than I expected . It can improve however it’s worth for what you paid for. Fried chicken wing must try.
More Than Nourishment
I’ve been coming here for years and it always satisfied my noodle cravings. You can tell the noodles are made fresh. For less than $10, you get a huge serving although recently I found it was mainly noodles with little toppings and not enough sauce which made the dish lack flavour. Luckily they have an awesome chilli oil to add to it. Not as good as it used to be but very decent for the price.
Gnetss
The egg for my Pan Mian was overdone. The dish would be nicer if it had that runny egg york. It was dry and needed a little more taste. Luckily I like my chilli so i drenched it in chilli oil that made it slightly better. Also had the kampua and kolo mee! The diff is in the sauce apparently - kolo mee has vinegar whick kampua doesn’t. Got to say that the handmade noodle had the perfect texture tho’ just needs to elevate the flavors. Overall, perhaps try something else like the fried rice?

I went there twice recently. The first time they forgot my order and I had to check after half an hour of waiting. I just chalked it up to bad luck. I went there again tonight. I had to be somewhere in 40 mins and I figured there should be enough time for dinner. Boy was I wrong. I waited half an hour for my food. To provide some context, the restaurant was only 30% full, so there wasn't a long queue of orders. It seems the kitchen is just really slow. The food was alright but I had to takeaway my dinner so I wasn't late for my meeting. So be aware if you're in a hurry, this is not the place to go.

Very authentic Asian food, always filled with Asians. Great for cheap, fast food. Poor ambiance though and a little noisy inside at times. Service is adequate. Would always go back, good memories and great dishes.

Quick and easy place for a simple meal. One of our favourites is the Curry Fish. Love how you get a choice between fresh fish and fried fish fillet. Char Kueh Tiaw is not bad, but have had better.
Food is generally tasty and reasonably priced. Menu is fairly extensive and food portions are generous. A typical go-to place for a casual Malaysian meal.

Food is cheap and pretty tasty for what you're paying. Had the fish curry and kolo mee. Curry was nice but they forgot my request for fresh fish instead of fried. The noodles were good too but I did get the impression they weren't handmade as claimed in the menu.

All in all a worthwhile visit for a no-fuss meal or takeaway. Cost efficient and good enough.

Tried the Kampua noodle and fried kway teow from the vegetarian menu. The kampua noodle was cooked just right and along with the sauce and mock cha siew pork it was very tasty! The noodles are handmade apparently and they do taste fresh! The fried kway teow was delicious too, not overly oily or salty, and had the charred flavour. This place is suitable for vegetarians who want to have some Malaysian food!

It was good when it first opened
Standards have dropped dramatically to, i assume, improve margin
Noodles arent good anymore which they were known for
Bec Preedy
Mei goreng was the best we have ever tasted, so much delicious flavour and sauce. The laksa was different but also delicious, much more fragrant than laksas I have had before. Definitely ordering again.
Kun
Very good food. I liked the special Kampua noodle either with egg or prawn. The size of the meal is really large. And the price is fairly cheap, compared to the food that have similar quality in Perth. Easy parking. Self-service for water and cutlery. Will come back and try most dishes in their menu.

Verdict: deteriorated
Will I revisit again: only if friends wanna meet up there, otherwise no.

Always have been their usual customer. But the food had become progressively worse. The hokkien noodle was too soft and chopsticks couldn't hold the crumbling noodles. There was also a cloth smell and taste in the noodle, yuck!! Seafood horfun was normal but the corn flour did not dissolve properly as there were too many huge lumps in the gravy...

Conclusion: I'm still worried of what's that cloth taste in the noodle hahaha
Foodie In Paradise
We always came here for a quick meal or when I'm craving for the kampua ( East Malaysian style dry noodle). However, I decided to try something different last night, had the seafood hor fun instead. It was the worst choice ever. The seafood hor fun had hardly any seafood in it and super salty as in they put half a packet of salt into the dish. My friend enjoyed her pork chop noodle. I decided to give quite an average rating as I think certain dishes in this restaurant was still quite good but some of the dishes like seafood hor fun is absolutely terrible.
ITADAKiMASU
Understated restaurant but quality of food is top notch. I loved their hand-pulled noodles. Can taste the freshness. Authentic Asian cuisine without being unnecessarily fancy.
Zoodle
Really tasty food and it's cheap! Love the Kampua and Kueh Teow in particular. Portions don't look very big, but they are very filling so if you are not a big eater remember to order the smaller size. My husband is not a fan of prawns or fish, so he sticks with the likes of fried chicken (very flavourful!), chicken rendang and sweet and sour pork.
Shih-Lon Fu
Under new management, and it is disappointing. We came expecting our usual quick meal only to wait a long time. The more infuriating thing was that the food that came out of the kitchen was for their own staff, while 4 tables were waiting for their food. Unbelievable. The quality of the food has also taken a hit. We'll likely make an extra 25 minute drive to Thornlie next time.
Zhu Ning
We left there without having anything because they forgot to pass our order to the kitchen! We were sitting there like fools for an hour nobody cares! We even asked about our order but they obviously not tell us the truth! Horrible service, terrible experiences!
Breeze
Had the laksa because I absolutely love the laksa at their sister store in Karawara (south Perth).
Was such a disappointment and I'm so dehydrated now - must be laced in MSG?!
Benowa
I love this place. It's always busy and they do quick, delicious food. Average meal is $12 and it's super yum. Don't let the look of this place fool you.
Asian's Taste
Ho..ho.Friend of mine told me about this place.we had kampua noodle special and soup. It's oily but it's delicious. The pork fat that make it tasty. Love their home made noodle. Once a while we can be a bit cheeky with our food☺️☺️
If you like to eat noodle, you should try this place. Big portion, good value and Definitely recommend this place
Will come back again and try different food
BREAKFASTforever
I have mixed feelings about Kitchen Inn. I've tried the kolo mee a couple of times and each time it is tasty for the first few bites and then gets overwhelming. I think it's because they use a lot of pork lard and oil and it coats all of the noodles. Haven't tried the other meals (rice, soup etc) so will probably go back to try as it's well priced and lots of locals go there to eat.
Sinkas
A really interesting malay place, with many dishes that i have not noticed elsewhere.Sarawak laksa was damn tasty, house made noidles were great
Anyway nice food large portions, dont be put off by the rough looking front of house

I expected a decent Malaysian/ Singaporean Meal
I'm so disappointed with the noodles. It's dry and tasteless (it's suppose to taste slightly wet with a dash of oilish texture with soy, dark soy & Chilli)

Wanton size is very flourish with meat inside no bigger then a size of a 10cent (very pathetic)

BBQ meat was the only thing decent (not the best but decent)

Price is costly compared to a nicer tastier & cheaper Malaysian outlet down at O'Connors

I'm a Singaporean and I paid $12.50 for this piece of shit

Return? Never.

Evonne
Food is good tasting, pretty cheap and quite generous portions. Decor brings it down severely though - it's stuffy, the area near the toilet smells and the floor is really dirty! Such a shame as otherwise I'd be there all the time.. They could probably do okay to increase the prices by $1 and in turn increase the presentation.
AngMohAsian
Had the noodles here with her bbq pork. It was pretty good with the chilli sauce, I find this a dish that I love when I go to Singapore, but it's hard to find a place that does do it here and when they do they don't often do it well.

The bak kut teh was a fail. I really couldn't finish the dish. The herbal taste was overpowering. I understand there are two types of bak kut teh but this one just doesn't hit the right now to me.

On 12th nov 15 I had the special mee with special soup for dinner. The standard remains the same however I would say the hygiene level of it has dropped. After eaten the dinner and reached home half an hour I had a bad stomach pain, yes I had diarrhea. And the next morning I suffered another round of it. I did took away some of my mee and ingredients which I just whiffed at it. Smelled so bad. And best part I missed my part time job which costed me hundreds of dollars.

If you want to open a restuarant please maintain the standard of hygiene else the customers would suffer.

I have to admit the food taste good previously but now no more eating out on this.
Pris
The quality is consistent between this branch and the other in Thornlie. Best Malaysian authentic food in Perth, for Kanpua noodles, mee goreng, Sarawak laksa (a bit more of a herb taste than your typical curry laksa). We tried the wheatgrass tea and it has the weirdest green colour but tastes good nonetheless. The curry fish is in a thick creamy curry sauce, quite good too.

Always coming back to kitchen inn.

I was in Singapore a year ago and I read the Guardian's list of things you should eat in Singapore and went around eating all of them. It was tres radical (that's Greek for filling).

One thing I really enjoyed was Bak kut teh, soft unctuous pork ribs in a subtle broth. I ate it twice and it gave me the confidence and pep to hit the Singapore dating scene (very successfully I might add - El winky winky).

I have since learnt that there are many different versions of Bak kut teh. And they're all excellento (again Greek*). The version served at Kitchen Inn is much darker and fragrant than the one I first made love to. But most delicious lah.

Kitchen inn itself isn't much of a place to bring a date, unless of course you've got to the stage where you're comfortable with each other (no need to shower etc.) but the food is cheap and pretty delicious, menu is mostly all Malaysian hits with only a few misses. I wish I could give it a 3.78.

*my neighbour George K is Greek and he says all these things. It's not a stretch to assume they are Greek.

This is a frequent spot for my friends. Food prices are quite reasonable and they serve your food quite promptly. I never had much issues here only that one time they forgot my order. But it's ok.

Apart from that, they are quite accommodating because there was that one time I had cravings for several different things and ordering three different dishes just to satisfy my cravings did not sound sensible. So I asked if instead of curry chicken in my nasi lemak, could I have prawns, siu yuk (roast pork) and char siu (BBQ pork). They said ok. Of course I had to pay a little bit more but it was worth that two dollars (or was it three).

But please, that was just a one off and I learned to respect restaurant menu and not be such a pain. Cravings are cravings, but thank God they aren't always the same.

I was so excited that Kitchen Inn moved to a newer and bigger premise near the South Ocean Chinese restaurant in Kardinya. Even though the restaurant is bigger, the sizeable crowd and popularity of this place has not relented and we often found difficulty in having a group lunch during weekdays even though it was after the peak lunch time.
Perth Culinary
Never been here anymore since Sarawak open their business in Willetton. Their kolo mie was too oily like they had been soaked in oil. Everything is too oily here i think.
OnePointFive
First time visiting Kitchen Inn in Kardinya. Really impressed with the quality of food. They were tasty and hot (made to order): Nasi Lemak Special, Kampua Special, Wonton Noodle & Seafood Fried Rice. This will be our regular restaurant once we move back to the neighbourhood for sure.

Yum! My girlfriends and I met up for lunch at Kitchen Inn, Kardinya.

We ate their famous handmade noodles and it was amaaaaazing!

We ordered the Braised Pork Flat Noodles and a few other dishes, but these noodles were definitely the winner.

They were just so fresh and cooked to perfection!
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
If u want some thing quick, order the kolomee 😊 usually came out fast and portion is quite big for a regular... When the place is packed, the resto is abit stuffy and smokey. Probably need better ventilation
Cluelesstraveller
Popular among students, food are reasonably priced too. Taste is nothing out of the oridinary. A but too oily and too much MSG in my opinion. Its good to have every once in a while but not one I will crave over. Place can get really busy during the weekend.
Hippo309
Tried the beef hor fun in egg sauce. My advice? Stay away from it. The few miserable pieces of beef was not fresh and the hor fun was stuck together and bland. The sauce was starchy and tasteless.

Food is good but service is very bad - this is why I try to avoid coming to this place. Went there tonight and my partner finished his meal before mine even came out. He even tried to slow down. The table was filthy, had to chase down someone to clean it and that took ages as well.
Last time I came here (few months ago), they forgot about my meal. I had to remind them about it.
Heard about similar things happening to other people too.
Sorry kitchen inn, but you've lost my business.
Foodlover143
Used to have decent char kuey teow but it tastes bland now... The service is horrible. We called in to have a pick up order done and the person taking the order didn't say anything the entire time and hung up. When we got there to pick it up the owner didn't smile, didn't greet us or attempt to look up our order but instead just kept shaking her head. The entire family (with all the kids) of the owners was sitting in the restaurant running amuck whilst eating mandarins... very unprofessional and very unfriendly.

Two thumbs up. I only have had experience with take-away when I choose to eat there. For the amount you pay, very good quality and quantity of food given. Great local place to grab a feed.
Food 2 Run
Nice. Got a take away beef and was very good, good size and value....

Insanely busy on a Sunday. Crazy busy today when I visited for lunch - perhaps I should have known better! Had the Kampua + Special Soup deal. It was OK but not outstanding. The stock was quite fatty/oily, which let the dish down. I will probably have another go during the week when it's not so busy - that it was is testament that others find it great!

Great food!!. Was there for dinner on Friday night with a group of 6.. Service was excellent, we brought a bottle of wine and they took care of the glasses and were very attentive.. Food was so tasty and our bill for 6 ppl.. $10 per head.. Highly recommend and a enjoyable night out :) will be back soon

How the mightily has fallen.... What used to be our family favorite is now no more.

TC Kueh Teow use to be my all time fav, now it's tastless. N stir fried veg with sand.

Very disappointed.

In addition to my review below, when we went to pay and I explained the anchovy situation, the lady (owner?) removed the charge from our bill.

-----20 Jan, 2015-----

I order no anchovies, I get served anchovies. I take it back, they pick off the anchovies and return the dish. There are still anchovies stuck in the noodles. I return the dish again, asking for a new serving. They return the bowl with chilli heaped onto the anchovy remains. The noodles in both our dishes are oily and too many. The bbq pork is not fresh- it is discoloured and hard around the edges. It is difficult to communicate with the waitress as she speaks very little English. Prawns taste like water. Positive- the cold peppermint herbal tea is delicious. Never coming back.

No More Value For Money. It used to be value for money when they were operating in Le Souef Drive, but now it's smaller portion and doesn't taste as good anymore since they'd moved to South St next to Chicken Treat.
Dan
Noodles are good. Service is sub par. They forgot my order a few times.
Angie Healy
Service bad, food good. Have been 3 times in 3 weeks and once they forgot our order and the other time they gave us the wrong thing. Also it's so busy that you can barely move.
Layna
Always come here for a taste of home. Have to say it's one of the best places in Perth serving authentic Malaysian food. Went for a take away on a Sunday night. Took ages. That being said, the system they have at the back there could more organized.
Koo
Today is my first time here. I heard my friend they have just moved to where chicken treat along south street. When I went there, they were so busy and when my braised pork belly rice came out, they looked so delicious and it tasted super delicious too. Definitely will come back and recommend this east Malaysian kitchen inn Kardinya.

Below average food. Been here twice for dinner.first time we order rice and noodles dishes. The rice were ok nothing special but char kueh teow were pretty average, kampua mee bland and no seasoning. Decided to give a second shot and went there again ordered nasi lemak ( this is the worst nasi lemak that i ever had in my life ). My partner ordered pork and rice dish and all we could taste is pork fat and nothing special. Later i got to know from a friend that this is a east malaysian restaurant. That explains why the food is average.
Mary Campbell
Special Mee... Kolo Mee special was so very good..even though the portion look small .. i was full and satisfied....
Yellow
Authentic and Yummy!. I have been here many times and it's been consistently good. I tried the famous noodle dishes and it looks small, but it was very very filling. The noodles are very authentic and super yum! The chendol drink was very delicious as well. I tried the Char Kway Teow and that is one of the best ones in Perth. The rice dishes are not as popular, but why pick rice when you have hand-made noodles! Highly recommend!
Rathi Sivapalan
Very tasty Kampua noodles. The soup that comes with the set meal is also full of ingredients and very good. Also tried rhe char kuey teow. It did not dissapoint. We went at about 3pm for a late lunch. No other customers,so it was nice compared to the other time we went for a 7pm dinner.
Oscar118
Good and bad. The Kolo and Kampua mee are still their best dishes, it is less salty and msg compared to their branch in Thornlie. Nasi Lemak is a failure, prawn cracker is soft and chicken rendang is tasteless. Satay Chicken with Fried Rice is below average, not recommend as well. Maybe will try the Fried Kuey Teow next time as reviews in here highly recommended this dish.
Thomashling
Food only. I come for food only. Cheap. Bak kut teh is good and the noodles are good. Be prepared though to be seated with strangers. Well, what can I expect? Cheap and fancy!?
Poohhunnyhunt
Since this shop open we had our dinner there quite often. The food was cheap, nice and the environment was pleasant.
But something ridiculous just happened to us tonight. Two of us were brought to a table for 4 when we step in the restaurant. Because there wasn't any more table available at that time. Everything was fine until half way of our meal, a waitress brought another two customer to our table and WITHOUT ASKING PERMISSION,placing them to sit JUST RIGHT BESIDE US!!! OMG that's almost unbelievable.
I understand that some Chinese restaurant has a culture of sharing table, but come on? That is not the BIG ROUND TABLE that we can always see from those Chinese restaurant.IT IS JUST A SMALL SQUARE TABLE and YES, the person's elbow just about to touch mine! (This is how close it is)
WE FELT SO UNCOMFORTABLE, No Privacy to talk! and yes, end up we take away our food and leave. The worse part is, I try to talk to the people in the counter, what I got from him is: "This is normal, we share table"
No apologies, No explanation.
Well, this is how it is. I am not going to make any negatives comment here but yes this is what I experienced.
YumVish
Pan Mian was good but did not have enough topping compared to the amount of noodles. Still tasted yummy though. The mee goreng was awesome! definitely be back here again.
MK
I went there for lunch and it was so packed. The food was very nice and is at a very reasonable price. I will definitely go back again
Sconnormex
Fantastic food, great price!. We now eat at the Kitchen Inn quite regularly. Absolutely love the food; very tasty, large portions, great veggie options. Space is a bit tight and sometimes we have to double up with others at the table, but with food this good, at this price, it really doesn't matter! Highly recommended.
Katlyn
The foods are just so nice... Just the customers behind me ruined my mood today!!! So annoyed!!! Unbelievable that these ppl can be so selfish for not willing to share table with others OMG!!! Totally Unbelievable!!!
Bebe Wong
I came today and it was very busy! Love the noodles and the ice lemon tea and service was great! ! definitely back again! !
Karo Line
Terrible service. I was there today and was interrupted three times by the staff there to allow our table to be shared with other customers. Come on the the table size is so small. Then the third time they didn't even ask our permission and told the customers just to sit next to us. Plain rude staff! Never again!
Keng Quee Tay
Ken. Don't bother to order Nasi Lembak. The prawn cracker is soft and the rendang chicken is dry and tasteless with big junk of bones. Have to request for little sambal. Ikan bilis, peanut and cucumber are little.
Food Forever
Terrible service but great noodles. Great to a quick fill for under $10.
Hazel
Nice food but worst service. What is the purpose of reservation when i need to wait for so long when i have a reservation and other people who come later than us get a table before us???
Sofiegirl
Finally somewhere that sells pan mee, not very authentic as it doesn't have the normal potato leaves that comes with it, and no black fungus, but happy with it... Good job!
Darkcherry
First time trying their kampua and kolo mee last week, after I knew they open one at kardinya. It was delicious!
Carenwg
...tonight, we decided to try this new restaurant in Kardinya - Kitchen Inn. Well technically, it is not a new restaurant - the first Kitchen Inn that opened up in Perth was the one on Spencer Rd, Thornlie. Being

My parents said the noodles here reminded them of how noodles used to taste in Singapore when they were growing up, and for me the Kampau Special with a side of wantons was almost the Platonic Form of what my dream wanton noodles would be.
Queen Of Bad Timing
The handmade flat noodles and braised pork are a winner, jam packed with flavour! The other dishes were okay, great price but not as punchy as the first dish.
WenY
Its taste reminds one so much of home and for me who just loves everything Malaysia has to offer in terms of food, this Sibu (East Malaysia) delicacy just helps to keep those cravings at bay.
