Review Zen Saki - Perth

Kjana Scotchmer
Very average eaten here twice now. Had terriyaki salmon roll was so oily it was dripping then had terriyaki beef also covered in oil the bottom part was just a layer of oil when i finished. My partner had Ramen was mediocre however don't expect it to be as it's not a ramen place. The terriyaki chicken roll was ok at least not oily. It's very different from the QV1 Zensaki which is quite good.

Interesting range of sushi rolls (like the choices of black/brown rice). The two rolls I had were freshly made and very tasty. The only downside for me was the cellophane wrapping of the rolls, however... little bit fiddly to unwrap! Rolls are priced decently, though, will definitely be coming back!

Food portions have dropped, food quality has dropped, they are relying on you to order food that has already been cooked and is sitting under the Bain Marie, they are now selling Spring Rolls which they haven't done for years, went there for lunch today and ordered Teriyaki Salmon and was given Chicken, unfortunately will never go there again.

Used to go here for lunch all the time, but it really depends on the time of the day. I sometimes have lunch late (at around 2 pm) and there's not many great options towards the end of the day.

Great food. Love their chicken katsu curry for lunch as it's made ready to grab and run as well as other quick hot dishes. Very convenient.

Great little underground place for some authentic Japanese food! Decently priced and can make nice meals on the spot for you.

Looks like Yaki-udon was removed from the menu :( Ramen is tastey tho.

good place to have a meal, nice bento box and sashimi. Drink not recommend XD

delicious! service was exceptional but when i went they didn't do split bills (I'm not sure if that's changed) food was glorious and price was average (it could be cheaper šŸ˜Ŗ) best part is that it's very conveniently located!! all my love ā¤ļø

Let me start with something nice: I went here for lunch during busy hour and got my large bento box of sweet chilli karage fairly quick - so this is definitely idea for quick lunch getaway in for us busy cbd people.

Taste wise - itā€™s allright, itā€™s decent. I mean it could be better, the outer side of chicken was not as crispy as normal karage chicken would - probably because they deep it in the sauce too long.

Price wise - a big let down. I think the large bento box is too expensive. Normal bento at $9.9 and you pay about $3 more or around 30% more for the large bento and I donā€™t think you get 30% extra meat and rice. To cover it, u get one spring roll (cut into two, but itā€™s one). No good. I think Iā€™m better off with the normal size bento.

This was my first time that i thought foodā€™s horrible.. had ramen with my friend who always finishes her food but we couldnā€™t finish it... I donā€™t even have pictures of it

I ordered the zensaki special miso ramen. It was so tasteless I had to add a lot of chilli (the closest condiment to hand at the time), and even then tasted only mildly better than dishwater. Very disappointed. Won't waste my money or time going back.

I had disgusting food cooked by an amateur cook from this place...will never go back there!!
You might think this is a modern Japanese place in a newly renovated arcade but the chefs and staff are non Japanese (they mostly speak Korean) who don't seem to know the real Japanese food's quality or standard....I'm extremely annoyed as I've worked in Japan for years and know the real quality of food we can get over there, and this kind of 'pretended' Japanese places would really push down the reputation of the Japanese cuisine in Perth.
I went to Zensaki to grab a quick lunch in the first week of July. It was a little late for lunch so they didn't have a lot of hot food left. A young female staff who is usually at a cashier asked me if I wanted to get a katsu (crumbled chicken) curry ($11.90) and I agreed, as I wanted to have a freshly cooked hot food. She then put rice and curry into a take away box first then start deep frying a katsu. Then she took it out from the deep fryer and cut it on a chop board (I was watching as she was cooking it right in front of me) then she obviously realised the chicken was still raw. Then she tossed the half chopped katsu into the deep fryer again!!! Then she took it out on the chop board straight from the fryer, without draining the dripping fat at all, and used the SAME knife and the board which she used to cut the raw chicken before!! Yuk!!!!!! I was quite shocked and disgusted with that but couldn't say no as I had already paid for this....then I ate the food and it was even more disgusting!!!!!!! The rice was very hard and dry, it was like rice which was left under a heater without a cover for at least a few hours. Unbelievable. The curry was already cold!!!!
The katsu was extremely OILY, it was expected as I already saw the girl didn't drain the fat on a basket / paper at all. I felt very sick all afternoon. I couldn't believe they think this kind of poor quality food cocked by an amateur person they can charge almost $12 for. They obviously don't care about the hygiene, taste or quality. Everyone please avoid this fake Japanese place. If you were a real Japanese chef you would be more careful with the food quality.

I'm a big fan of the Zensaki sushi train but this little sister outlet on the Terrace falls short. The sushi is ok but I applaud them on having a good variety of brown and wild rice options. Most of the hot meals are pre made and sitting in the warmer. They just poured the sauce on top of my teriyaki chicken as I ordered it. Chicken was gristly and veggies were tasteless. However for $9 it was quick and easy.

They have really nice brown rice sushi assortments here. The noodle soups are also very nice here and are on par with their sister store on Barrack St. The only downside is the service can take a long time.

Took my parents here for their first time! They really enjoyed it.
A few things have changed since the last time I came here. I still think this place has one of the freshest Sashimi in Perth (I havent been to Nobu yet).
The steak teriyaki was delicious.
The pippies/clams was great. Very tasty sauce.
The volcano ramen was spicy and pentiful.
I like this place as there selection of sushi is different to most other places.
If this place was not in the city, I would dine here more frequently.
Service is fantastic! Love the atmosphere. Price is a bit high but what Japanese restaurant isnt?
Sam
Reliable place for ramen- the bf's favorite place. I like their fusion style sushi as well. However I would prefer a wider variety of sushi on the sushi train.

What is not to love about Zensaki?
Fast friendly service, delicious & beautifully presented food at a reasonable price.
The perfect lunch spot if you are in need of a good meal to get you through the afternoon.
Go here every time I'm in the city, can't complain about anything because everything is just perfect, the staff are very nice people, the food is fresh and delicious, everything about this restaurant is good. Definitely going again best food.

The takeaway is good - a much better range of sushi and rice salads than I've seen elsewhere (apart from David Jones' food hall). I'm addicted to the salmon, rice and salad box. Probably enough for two meals but I eat the lot in one sitting.
Inside the small restaurant ... wooden tables and clunky wooden chairs. And good food, especially the bento boxes. And always Japanese customers.
Hryelle
Very good ramen for the price. The broths is boss.

Sushi Train Experience. We went for dinner late-ish on a Saturday night and the sushi options were a little limited. However, everything we had was fresh and tasty. We will be back to try some of their lunch specials which seemed very reasonably priced.

Amazing food at a very affordable price. The staff were super attentive too. 10/10, would eat again.

Probably a 3 out of 10 and that's being generous. They got no idea how to make sushi, it's like they think of they cram as much ingredients in rice and smother it in sauce it's worth $6,20 a plate. Forget trying to order all a cart they ignore you till you're ready to pay.

Emperor Roll. Best sushi I had in Perth. Try their emperor roll. Nice little place tucked away. Friendly staff.
Ken
Oily Ramen. The oiliest ramen I have ever eaten! Probably won't go back.
Cactus
Nice interior, friendly helpful staff. Had miso base seafood noodle soup. Was slightly disappointed by the dish, tasted mediocre and small portion for the price paid. Will come back but not for the noodles.
Jessie Hill
Good ramen. Having tried a number of places... best ramen that my partner and I have found in Perth.

Prefer the miso base, over the salt base.

Not so confident about the other items on the menu. However, the ramen is tops.

Our Regular Japanese Treat. We have chosen Zensaki as our Tuesday night dinner place as we have a night class in the city. We have found the food can be absolutely amazing one week and then just good the next. However their just good is better than most Japanese restaurants we have been to. The menu is easy to select from and the service seems to be fairly quick. It is a great casual Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices. We recommend it!

OK food, passable

Good takeaway Japanese, underneath the ANZ building on the terrace, pretty good prices, has a dine in area but I use the place as takeaway at lunchtime. Staff friendly and happy to make any sushi up if what you want isn't there already.

Zensaki was one of the first sushi trains that I've been to in Perth. Located on one of the busier streets in Perth, the place is always quite full. We tried a few different dishes from them, 3 from the sushi train, and a chirashi don. I had a cold soba noodle, however, being extremely hungry, it slipped my mind to take a photo of it. The chirashi don was generous and fresh, and the same can be said with the three sushi plates. It was not my first time there, so the sushi that I chose were ones that I have tried and love. Zensaki is great for the hungry and not so hungry, with menu items as well as the train, it will satisfy different levels of appetites. N

The new restaurant replacing Mr Samurai on Barrack Street is opening tomorrow! And more importantly, I get to have a peek at what the restaurant looks like after the refurbishment before the general public! How exciting is this for a food blogger!
