I walk past The Deck Cafe every morning and it always looks inviting so I met with a friend for breakfast on a Monday morning mid June. I ordered 2 breakfasts of Bacon and Scrambled eggs and coffees. The female barista helped the her female colleague put the coffee order in the register and then proceeded to not make mine as requested and also telling me that their cream was not sweetened when it actually was. Next, they had run out of Bacon, was Ham ok, which we said yes to. Our meal came out with over cooked and luke warm eggs- some areas a greyish yellow colour with tough, chewy texture( reheated?) and the round processed deli ham looked like it was pulled out of the packet and slapped on our plates- cold. Absolutely no presentation whatsoever. The pepper cork was not in properly so the entire contacts ended up on my friends meal. There were no other customers and the girls were nowhere to be seen. We then proceeded to pick around our meals and left the grey bits of egg and some of the cold tasteless ham, and in my friends case, her pepper coated ham. We did tell one of the girls about the pepper when we eventually found them and her response was “oh, I am sorry”, and proceeded to clear our plates away. We just left. Based on other reviews, we clearly struck a bad morning, but at this stage, not ready to give a second chance.

Good location and coffee for business meetings. Looks like the place to be seen for local sales executives drumming up business.

Unexpected finding in the city (Central Park), with delicious coffee and friendly staff.
Kyle Snodgrass
Good location, staff were very accommodating and we enjoyed the food.
Steve Dunstone
Good coffee and ok food
Mac Plewa
Good for coffee, tea and catching up with friends.

Expensive prices for poor quality of food-management need to understand that the 'BOOM' is over. Questioned why soup was $9.50... not great at all. Don't recommend for food at all, customers are not there to pay for their rent!

Checked the web site. The breakfast menu looked great, $19.00 for eggs, bacon, sausage, toast etc. Rang and booked a table for 8 for breakfast this morning. On arrival at the Cafe no table had been reserved so asked at the till. Was informed that they no longer do cooked breakfast only coffee and prepared wraps etc. Asked about website, oh! yes we've got to change that. Why take a booking? oh! do you know who you talked to. REALLY!!!!

If a place does crepes then I'm there. Without fail. And The Deck does. It also does a range of tapas and lunch foods. Pictures coming soon.

Reasonable coffee, but extra shot are $1, par thawed muffin, not wonderful but ok. Also awkward vibe from shouty staff, and between staff, could be better is almost every way.

20 minute wait for a take away coffee...and it's cold! 6 people who ordered after me, get their coffee before me?!?!? My fault for ordering decaf I suppose.

2018 update - still the slowest coffee in the world

The deck cafe is not a great cafe but it is a good bar area especially on a Friday arvo after work and that's where it ends. The only reason they are busy for coffee is because of the location, I'm not too impressed buy the coffee there are plenty of other places to get a good cup that's for sure!

Nice friendly staff. I like how they have different things on the menu for lunch, not just ham and cheese croissants or chicken sandwiches here!
I had the tuna melt, which was full of salad and I think was wrapped in an omelette or something. It was very nice, I didn't enjoy the sour cream and sweet chilli in it though. Too many things going on :)
The mini breakfast bite is amazing too.
Prime location in the CBD. A pretty environment to eat!

Morning Coffee Fix. The deck cafe has been my choice of coffee shop for a while now, and I LOVE IT!! It seems many others do too, as I have seen this place getting busier and busier. The girls are constantly pumping out quality coffee, and although on a busy morning there may be a cue the smiling staff, cheeky banter, quality coffee and free cookies make an extra minute or two worth the wait.

Had a mango and passion fruit smoothie, let's just say I'll never be having one again, it didn't even taste like fruit, just milk, and far from a refreshing drink.

20 minute wait for average coffee and banana bread- go elsewhere. Ordered coffee and hot toasted banana bread. Banana bread brought out 10mins later and another 10mins after my hot banana bread had gone cold had my coffee been made. 20 minute wait all up. Don't waste your time when there are many other great cafés around that have great service. Coffee was average but nice touch of serving with a small biscuit. Banana bread would have been nice if served at the same time as coffee so could be eaten warm.

I don't usually write reviews but my experience at the Deck was so memorable that I just have to brag about it.
Firstly, the service here was more than just a friendly smile. I'm very fussy with coffee and food and the girls were more than happy to go out of their way to accomodate to my particular needs.
Secondly, the coffee was so great I had to order a second one.
And my focaccia wasn't only just delicious, but HUGE, especially for the low price i paid. And It even came with a free side salad!
Lastly, the atmosphere was superb.i could see all of the girls working hard behind the counter but all of them were always smiling and appeared happy to be there. One of them even came and had a chat with me while clearing my table.
I Will definitly come back here again!
Top place!

Great Place!. Great coffee, always try to please their customers in any way they can. Fast and some of the friendliest, loveliest staff in Perth's cafe's.

Makes my day to get a great coffee every morning with a sweet smile :)

Great coffee and service. The coffees are always great whether it's a flat white, mocha or cappuccino on my way to work or mid morning break. Perfect temperature and never burnt or bitter.
The complimentary biscuit on top is cute and sometimes just the sugar hit I need.
staff are always friendly and the loyalty card is excellent, I love that you can order ahead and skip the queue.

DISAPPOINTED. They serve the worst coffee in CBD..

Great steak. Really enjoyed the steak here, especially for the price.

The Deck is very bad. Naughty little Deck.. Got taken here for lunch and was glad to see that the food comes from the adjoining Grand. We ordered a mixture of share plates - haloumi cheese, scallops, pork belly, bread/dips. All virtually inedible apart from the bought-in dips with the bread. Now honestly, I never complain, but this was bad. The haloumi was a 20x30cm hunk fried on a dirty pan which tasted awful over the hunks of betroot and chickpeas. The pork belly was grey and looked like it had been twice cooked - not in a good way, but once in Jan and the second time in Dec... The scallops tasted overly fishy and wrong. Finally, the lime aioli was like water and had obviously split. Funnily, someone suggested it for a bday lunch this week - we all said NO WAY! Sorry if the chef was off sick or having a bad day, but that was too bad not to comment. On the plus, the coffee is usually ok. Well, sometimes...

Sad coffee. I have walked past this place hundreds of times since it opened so I thought I would finally give the coffee a go. I had high expectations when I noticed the milk they used was Bannister Downs but on the first sip I was disappointed. Bitter & tasteless.

There are so many coffee shops in the CBD these days serving great coffee, The Deck need to learn how to be one of them.

Turning the tide. Hi Guys. John from Yahava KoffeeWorks here. Don't despair the team at The Deck and Yahava KoffeeWorks have heard you loud and clear. Rob, Manager of Yahava Wholesale has spent some quality time with The Deck team on their coffee making. A few changes in machine settings and reminders of how we need it made and the shots were pouring beautifully. We'd love it if you'd give these guys another go.

All down hill. Sadly this place USED to be great.. waited over 30 minutes this morning for a breaky wrap.. was paid for but "was forgotten"/. This was the second time this has happended and I have only ordered it twice ! Wrap was tasteless and cold.. Coffee was disgusting.. As this place is not cheap it wa a great disappointment to waste my time and money.. One lady who was the main coffee maker left and it has gone down hill sinc ethen.. Yahava be warned - your coffee is not being treated well

Going downhill. Such a shame, this place used to have the friendliest staff serving up consistently good coffee and food. Smooth, strong Yahava coffee - used to be one of the few places in town where you didn't have to ask for an extra shot in your flat white. I used to be a regular, however after my experiences there over the past couple of months, I will never go back. There are a whole lot of new faces behind the counter and while I am a fairly patient person (having worked as a barista before, I know what it's like when you're new), however chaos is still reigning supreme in the kitchen and behind the coffee machine. A smile and acknowledgement of waiting customers would not go astray - feel like you stand there being ignored. Milk in the coffee tastes sour like it has been whizzing around in the jug all morning. Coffee is weak and disappointing - haven't finished a cup since Leanne stopped working the machine. Brekky wraps are terrible - used to be a favourite - and my morning coffee accomplice has been served the wrong food order three times in a row and then most recently, her order was forgotten altogether!!! My verdict: try Tom's Kitchen, their coffee has been great everytime I have been there for the past couple of weeks, and the ladies who work there are lovely and seem to have a strong following of regulars.

Just Rude. Come here if you want to be ignored even if the place is empty. Recommend going to one of the multitudinous other coffee places in the vicinity who will at least acknowledge your presence, albeit in that grudging Perth style. Never going back here even though I work just 2 mins away.
FUNKIE01
Never Again!!. Shame about this place, great setting but sub standard food and coffee.

First time & not too impressed.... Went there with a few colleages today for lunch. We booked a table and pre-ordered this morning. My thoughts:

*PROS*
-Ability to pre-order in the morning
-Chicken Foccacia and BLT sandwices quite tasty
-Coffee was good
-Good location and funky setting

*CONS*
-My pre-ordered food came out 20 minutes late
-I could see my food sitting on the bench ready for 5 minutes
-Oven baked chips were extremely overcooked, 10% were too brown and hard to eat
-Orange juice came without ice, I requested a glass of ice and it never came
-Staff quite unfriendly
-Friend's smoothie took forever to come out, and was quite tastless

Great Service and food. This is the best cafe in Perth. The Staff not only look good but have great personalities and give excellent service. The coffee is one of the best for my taste and actually tastes like coffee and not just warm milk.
They use local Margaret River fresh produce and their rolls and wraps have lots of filling and flavour.
Their winter soups vary daily and are always tasty and come with several toasted slices of bread for only $6.
I recommend this cafe to anyone who enjoys being treated as more than just a customer. I am a reagular there will continue to be.
Caffeind
Great service. These guys really know how to provide good service. Always happy to see you, know you by name after the first few times and their online preorder system is fantastic! Not the most amazing coffee I've ever had but its still very nice, smooth and not too bitter. I go there every morning before work to get my fix.

Was that George Clooney. The food is awesome, the service is exceptional and the coffee is sooooooo good, there is rumours that George Clooney has frequented the Deck.
Le Grand Chef
Nice setting. This is a nice open modern café with lots of comfortable seating and heaters to keep out the cold chill. The staff were very friendly; the coffee was ok, the breakfast quick bite at $4.50 was filling.
Steph_orso
Went today for a coffee and WOW!!! Amazing. Def recommend it. The food was great and the girls are very friendly.

Brekky Rolls a Wnner!!. With heaters, groovy music and the friendliest smiley girls in the CBD - the Deck was a pleasant surprise. Their all new Brekky Rolls for $4.50 were the tastiest treats I have found in the CBD and represneted awesome value - Great work The Deck!
Terrine De Lapin
Poor coffee & food very average. Worst arancini ever. Only saved by the fit out .

Great new coffee place just behind the park, very attractive setting, lovely coffee, good service, very good music.
Sally Potter
Arancini balls. So delicious - perfectly cooked and tasty but not much pepperoni or chorizo in it - and not balls plural, just one big one

The place looks nice and has a varied menu. We ordered our beef and lamb burgers at the counter and then waited for 20 minutes before a veggie burger and a lamb burger turned up, apparently the orders had been mixed up - lets hope the other person wasn't actually vegetarian. My colleague decided that he was happy to have the veggie burger, but no offer was made to repay the difference in price. My lamb burger ($14.90) was served cold and wasn't so much a burger, as a layer of chopped up lamb off-cuts in gravy - plenty of grizzle and bone was visible - in a Turkish bun. The side of chips were nice and non-greasy. The veggie burger was ok and did at least resemble a burger. Will not be back.
