Review Positano Restaurant Northbridge - Perth

Sarah Daly
My partner and I had dinner here just last night and it was a great experience. We were celebrating our anniversary and the waitress went to a lot of effort for us, which made the experience even better. If you are looking for a good meal in an unpretentious place then this is where to go. The meals are reasonably priced, and we didn't mind waiting a bit for the food. We could at least feel confident that we weren't being served any 'fast' food. The homemade Tiramisu was definitely the best I have ever had! We will definitely be going back and hoping to make this our new go-to place for a decent meal.

We weren't given menus until I asked for them, then they got our drinks order wrong. My wife and child's food was quite good apparently. Mine never arrived, so I can't comment on that. After complaining about the service (or lack thereof), the owner revised the bill down quite a bit. I won't be going back in a hurry, if ever.
Samantha Saunders
The food was delicious and was very reasonably priced, as was the wine. Atmosphere a but flat but it was a Sunday night. Other tables seemed to have issues with slow service and there were some self-proclaimed "coffee snobs" who took exception to the cafe lattes, but no-one's perfect.

We had booked 2 large tables and the majority of us were extremely dissatisfied with our meals and the service-! I ordered a seafood platter (for $55) that took 1.5 hours to arrive. The prawns and the salmon were very dry and the salmon was burnt on the bottom. I returned it (I didn’t have to pay for it). Other orders: wrong sauce, forgotten meal, dry seafood, anti-pasto plate missing food and waiting 30 mins for a drink-! The maître de was passive aggressive and generally dismissive of our complaints. 2 other tables of guests walked out during our poor dining experience, as the table service was dismal-! GIVE THIS RESTAURANT A MISS if you want a positive dining experience-!

The service was ordinary. They couldn't find our booking, ordered a Canadian Club and dry, the overseas waitstaff couldn't understand and didn't bring the dry ginger ale. I asked for the salad that accompanied the meal to have no dressing and lots of tomato, I got an extra garden salad! My calamari was from a packet, as was the chips. No tartare sauce for the calamari, despite asking twice. At least it was amusing. On just worth the effort and money even with the discount using the book. I won't be rushing back.

Came here for dinner the other night with my partner and for a Friday night was not busy at all (us plus another table of 6 who were eating) and they were way over staffed (6 waiters, 4 kitchen) ordered a basic pasta finally received it an hour later with the wrong wine that I didn't order ! Plus the waiter who served us was soo rude ! And not to mention how expensive it is ! NEVER going back !! I'd rather go across the street at least their customers look happy and not miserable !!

Had dinner here tonight for Valentine's day and the service and food where amazing. All the staff are extremely nice and we did not have to wait long for our food or drinks. Definitely coming back.

Extremely disappointed. After a warm and friendly please come join us for dinner best italian meal etc etc. We decided to try Positano for dinner, it was an extremely hot evening but with no tables outside we sat inside thinking with a nice glass of cold water we will cool us down, but after having to wait for nearly 20 minutes to get some water ehich was warm water at beat we where nearly ready to walk out but decided we are here now lets try it so we ordered only to be left waiting for nearly over an hour for our meals that unfortunately left us feeling like we had eaten at a low grade pub instead of an authentic Italian Restaurant. I feel for nearly $200 the standard of meals we got it was Definitely not value for money. Sorry would not recommend this place.

My partner and I showed up at the tail end of the evening, uncertain if they would still serve us. Clearly our arrival put them in a bind. On the one hand, they wanted to wrap up for the evening, pack everything away and get the hell out of there. On the other hand, and much more importantly, they wanted our money. Holy Mary mother of Jesus, did they want our goddamned money. So we were told sure, take a seat. About three times over the next five minutes, the waitress interrupted us with the very clear intention of hurrying us into making our order so they could be done with us as quickly as possible -- a feeling that was reinforced as they immediately started packing away all the tables around us the moment we sat down.

Being hurried into ordering was doubly problematic, because I didn't feel like pizza or pasta, and nothing on the main menu appealed to me. So under duress, even though I didn't want one, I ordered a pizza -- the one with anchovies on it, because I'm one of those admittedly very unusual people for whom anchovies are the best thing about pizza. Turns out though that they didn't have any anchovies. Given we were the only people in there at this time, it would have been the simplest thing in the world for them to have alerted me to the fact that one out of the three ingredients of the pizza as advertised would not be provided. But no, out comes the waitress with a pizza without anchovies, but with the most ridiculous amount of cheese that any pizza has been ever forced to bear. Was the thinking here that they piled three times the usual amount of cheese to compensate for the lack of anchovies? Please tell me they're not that stupid. But either way, for the love of God, don't order a pizza here.

I made my displeasure about the state of the pizza perfectly clear to the waitress, and she offered to get me something else. But this was a non-starter, given how late it was and how uncomfortable we had already been made to feel about being there when they were so visibly keen to close shop. So I put up with what I had, but only ate half of it, which was at least as much of it as I could stomach. I think that I can say with confidence that nearly every other restaurant I've ever been to would have made it up to me by not charging for the pizza. Have I mentioned though how passionately in love with money these people are? Well, suffice to say, I was indeed charged for the pizza, thereby ensuring that I will never go back again and will tell everyone I can think to not to go there (hence this review), all of which will surely cost them more money than the $20 they got for something they knew perfectly well I hadn't wanted.

Fair's fair though: my partner's pasta dish looked pretty good, an impression she confirmed. So I guess if you come at the right time and don't trust them to get anything right other than pasta, you may very come away with the impression that this place is a lot better than it actually is.

Good deals, friendly staff and good location for tea before a drink in NB. Not my favourite Italian restaurant for food but I still would return.

Not the nicest or most modern looking dining place around, but food is not bad. We enjoyed the Chilli Mussels with Garlic Bread and the Tagliatelle Al Granchio (pasta with blue swimmer crabmeat). Both dishes were tasty and generous in portion sizes. Particularly liked how the mussels were cleaned out very well; no beard / smell.

Had the Fish of The Day- fish was cooked well and moist, but would have been better if the skin was a little more crispy and chips served on the side, as some of them turned soggy with the fish 'juice' dripping onto them.
Tiramisu was on the sweet side, light and pleasant.

Weather was beautiful, hence we opted to sit outside. With the nice breeze blowing, good food and bubbly service, we had a lovely dining experience.

The service was the worst I have ever had. I request oysters Kilpatrick and repeat this to the waitress 4 times as I don’t think she was understanding. Once the oysters came out they were not Kilpatrick but natural. We requested a glass of white wine which was warm and when we asked for ice (which we asked 3 different people) we were finally told they didn’t have any as the machine was broken. Once the mains came out they waiter left without offering any cheese, cracked pepper and before we could ask for a spoon for the pasta. The couple behind us also waited 40 minutes for a beer and we began discussing how bad the service was with them. Never will I go back.

Came here on a week night and got a really attentive and friendly staff who served us. Portion was substantial and the service was excellent. We had the tagliatelle al granchio which was really fresh but we think it can do with a little bit more chilli for a bit more kick. Our other dish was the tagliatelle delicate which was tasty and pasta was cooked al dente. To conclude our dinner we had the tiramisu to share which we love! Light and fluffy and we definitely could taste the coffee.

Had a really bad experience. Definitely won’t be going back. Service was slow, wrong food arrived on the table & they were not willing to change it because they had already cooked it. Got chicken penne instead of vegetarian penne. Then got vegetarian spaghetti instead of penne.
Perth Critic
Food is generally good, but too bad about the fish that was given in the seafood platter. It is usually barramundi but it was basa fillets given and the moreton bay bug was not so fresh as the meat is bland. I supposed the cost of the dish made up for it at $55.

I'd been here once before for a work do and the food was lovely, so I recommended it to a friend when were looking for somewhere to have lunch.
We ordered ice coffees as we'd been craving them all morning, a magherita pizza with italian sausage and the main size calamari and chips.

The iced coffees were quite literally the WORST I have ever been served. No ice so they were luke warm, no sugar, no icecream and NO coffee flavour. Just watery brown milk with unsweetened cream squirted on top. I'm not usually one to send things back but these were undrinkable. They agreed to remove them from our bill.

Our mains came out not long after, and I have to say, I've never seen an Italian restaurant use manufactured pizza bases. It was thick and chewy, more reminiscent of a McCains freezer pizza. We also had to ask for basil, as there was none on there. The sausage was delicious, but used sparingly.

The one saving grace was the calamari. It was lovely, tender and tasted fresh. It wasn't enough to make up for the abysmal iced coffees and the pizza though.

We also had to ask for cutlery and napkins as none were brought out with our food. We were so thankful we had an entertainment book voucher, I would have been annoyed to pay full price for the quality of food we were given.

We went next door to Dome and got actual iced coffees when we were done.

I had a movie at Paradiso at 1pm so I wanted to fit in a quick lunch; 40 minutes beforehand. I decided to go across the road, and asked the waiter whether they could deliver. He assured me they could, and brought out the menu. I asked for his suggestions on pasta and matching wine, and went with tagliatelle al marinella, Fresh homemade pasta tossed with a selection of seafood in a traditional napolitana sauce, and a glass of cabernet. Drinks came out quickly and the pasta was not too far behind. It looked good and overall the pasta was very enjoyable with lots of seafood and mussels. Service was attentive, and the waiter had a good sense of humour keeping punters amused. Basic, but tasty Italian, in the heart of Northbridge.

If you're after authentic Italian food then this is the place for you. We were waited on as soon as we walked through the door. The pasta was delicious and I would recommend the penne gondola for sure! There was a great vibe throughout the restaurant which added to the ambience. I would definitely come back! 😀

Service very good and outdoor tables very nice with outdoor heater available. Food average. Homemade tagliatelle with blue swimmer crab a bit soggy and far too oily.
Denise
I cannot believe the shocking service here. Popped in for coffee and dessert last night. Over half an hour after taking our order and 2 queries on the progress of our order cold coffees arrived. The panacotta was inedible, solid enough for the spoon to stand up alone. When we complained it was removed. When it came to pay they insisted on payment for the panacotta and argued that no one should tell them how to make it. Surely good customer service, that would encourage return customers, would apologise, acknowledge your complaint and not insist on payment. Very very rude and we shall not be returning

Well. The Italian Restaurant across the road had three times the number of customers, but having dined there, we weren't impressed. An older gentleman coaxed us inside, and we decided to give Positano a go. Ordered some simple dishes to see how good the chef was. Arancini...yikes, dry, tasteless, had to mask it with the tomato sauce along side. Margherita pizza, dry, tasteless, query reheated? Will not attend again. I would expect their rent is huge, so why they tolerate a chef putting out such crap is beyond me. As a restaurant owner, you should pride the food you put out.

The food and service here is very average. I ordered a Balkan grill and the meat was low quality. My partner ordered the reef and beef. The flavour of hers was nice but the meat was tuff. The waiter brought us out a warm bottle of water. I asked if they had cold water and he said no so I asked another waiter and they brought me a cold water. Won't return.

“Avoid at all costs”

Bland unimaginative poor quality food. The fish of the day (which is normally fresh fish) turned out to be mushy due to freezing. The Risotto and Pasta dishes were devoid of flavor. This restaurant is in its death throes financially, poor turnover leads to kitchen cutting corners, keeping food for longer periods to reduce expenses. I am still ill from the Pizza which is unusual, this restaurant has no right to make their customers sick. Avoid at all costs

Visited December 2016

Do yourself a favour - try it, great food and service. Yes the interior is a bit average but the rest more than makes up for it. We dine out a lot and it was great.

Really felt like I wasted my money here. Such overpriced sub-standard food and to top it off the owner was sitting on the phone the entire time at a table next to us talking about his lawyers and possibly threatening the guy on the other end. We ordered the oysters kilpatrick for entree which were so watery that we were worried we would get sick from eating them. This was served with 'fresh bread' which was clearly at least 1 day old. For main we ordered two servings of the home made tagliatelle with crab meat. The pasta itself was undercooked and there wasn't enough crab meat in the sauce to validate the 28.50 price tag. After receiving the bill and offering my credit card to the waiter I was asked to 'pay his boss at the counter', which gave me the impression that the boss didn't trust his staff enough to handle financial transactions. I suggest spending your money elsewhere.

Had the chicken parmigiana. The chicken was dry and the salad was absolutely loaded with onion. The chips were ok. Don't think I'll be going back any time soon. My friend had a pizza and the said it was average. We were told by the waitress that it was BYO but it was not. Couldn't do separate billing.

I've dined here a few times and we're always welcomed by their friendly staff. Food is nice but pretty average, I had the vegetable risotto and pizza to share ☺️
Absolutely LOVELY waiting staff! Everyone bent over backwards to make us feel special. The food was OK but it was eclipsed by how much fun the full experience was. Thank you Positano Staff for adding magic to the evening!! I will certainly be back.

Was taken to our table and given menus and 2 glasses placed on the table. 10 minutes later waiter comes to take our order and no water was with him. So asked if he could bring some when he returns with our ordered drinks. Our flat beer and wine arrive ... still no water so asked again. Asked for another beer as this one is flat ... he wasn't thrilled. Chipped plates, oily aoili, average food, awful decor and atmosphere. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Don't waste your time or money on this place. Had to change my order 4 times as the excuse was "so sorry we have run out its very busy" (restaurant was only half full on a Saturday night).
Tasting plate was dismal, poor quality and overpriced.
Medium cooked steak came out rare and waiter swapped it with another diner who got the medium cooked one by accident at my table after it had been cut into.
Floors were dirty, cutlery and plates had marks on them.
Asked for a free bottle of wine and was told that they wouldn't do that.
All of this and the cost came to $46 a head ( no coffee or dessert).
They're are so many quality places in Perth with added good service, choose wisely and keep walking when you go past this place.

Shite service, okay food. Won't be back.
Forgot your entry of garlic bread until we asked 49 minutes after ordering, mains arrived 15 mins later
Sandy
Walking in the restaurant there was good atmosphere, we ordered aranchini balls and tomato brucetta for entre and it was ok, the bread was soggy and the aranchini balls were soggy, there was no crunchy coating at all. We found it very very average. Main just got worse unfortunately. We ordered the tortellini and another pasta dish that had homemade pasta. The tortellini was undercooked so it was too hard and too chewey. The homemade pasta was worse, the pasta stuck together and it was also undercooked, too undercooked. It took too much effort to eat pasta for us. The sauce base for the pasta we found nice, basic sauce so can't get it too wrong. We didn't order dessert because the night just got worse. The wait staff were friendly and attentive but the owner was not very nice. Overall it was a less than average dining experience and will not go back anytime soon (at all).

Visited this place on Easter Monday.
I really enjoy a place what's not so crowded so pretty happy with my choice of going to Positano.

It was my first time here.
Had calamari with homemade tarts sauce and salad as an entree. Size of the entree is good. Calamari were nice.
As a main I choose to go for the seafood pasta. Can't remember the name of it I think it doesn't matter because the homemade pasta was amazing. It smelled so nice and tasted even better. I would recommend to get extra bread on a side with the pasta, because it has that really nice cream sauce. Nice bread will help to finish it off.

For the dessert I had pudding. It wasn't as good as I was expecting. The pudding it self was bit too salty. All thou the ice cream made it a good balance.

I was expecting it to be more sweeter. But its just me, because I love sweet food.

The service was really good.
European girl was creating me when I was reading the menu outside and she was more than happy to provide me with more information about the menu. She seat me at the table what I liked.

Gentleman, European as well, was really friendly and professional.

Once in all, food was fast, location is good, food is beautiful and service really enjoyable! I'll be back. Thank you guys. :)
We enjoyed a pleasant dining experience, despite the bread that was served being as stiff as a surf board. Sorentos across the road had far more patrons, but it is unjustifiably expensive. Positano had very friendly service and the pasta was not exceptional but good. The place to go if Sorrentos is booked out. The manager, rather than sitting on his posterior drinking wine, should be helping his staff serve and clean up. The best restaurants are never lazy with everybody working very hard. A bit more energy and devotion would see this restaurant lift up.
Matey
Had mussels for entree, the sauce was deliciously made. For main, we got surf and turf, scotch fillet and salad, and blue swimmer crab with chilli and tomatoes. Surf & turf and scotch fillet were both over cook. First one was meant to be medium, second one should of been medium rare. It was a let down to a nice evening out. Though they did give us complimentary coffees.
Service was ok. At the beginning we had a lady serve us, she was too eager to get our orders in quick. Writing down our orders, as what we wanted the meat to be cooked as we liked. So, both chef and waitress were at fault in not giving the best service this restaurant could of gotten.
Also, when we were getting seated, guy that seated us was a bit racist, he especially didn't need to add "is this okay lah, is this fine lah". Didn't seem if he actually does anything.
Andrew
Very good service, a rarity in Perth. Food was quick, appetising looking, a little hohum in the flavour department. A more inspired chef and the place would rate so much higher.
PerthfectBreakfast
The food here is pretty average, nothing really to rave about and come back for but nothing to complain about either. But I must commend them on their level of service which made the experience memorable. Okay, I may be biased because it was like it's a prerequisite that you have to be handsome to work here because all the waiters were very handsome with italian accents. So handsome even my partner commented on them. But service was very attentive but not smothering. Plates cleared quickly, glasses refilled, orders taken promptly, fresh parmesan, freshly cracked pepper....the works! It was good service.

Food was alright.... garlic bread was kinda soggy but had good flavour, fried calamari was lightly dusted and tender. Spaghetti carbonara is one of my favourite foods ever and way too often the sauce comes out like scrambled egg but this was a lovely creamy consistency, Partner enjoyed his spaghetti amatriciana. Only let down was my choc lava pudding which was fully cooked through and they were cheeky and poured chocolate topping on top for the illusion of a runny centre.
Daphne Chen
We had Caesar salad and chilli mussels for our entrée. Caesar salad was good and mussels are nice too. I had homemade pasta for my main. I got plenty seafood in my pasta but the pasta was a bit overcooked. I would expect it tastes better than I had. My partner got surf and turf. He asked for medium rare but he actually got medium which was a shame. Service was very good! Kept asking if we need anything and even offered free drinks due to their lack of stock to make our drink.

Came in for a spontaneous dinner on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was very enjoyable. Lovely tiramisu :)
LittleGirlBigFood
This place has been around for yonks. It's a great place to get a cheap and simple pasta. It's typical 90's Northbridge. Good cheap cocktails too
Babs
Excellent service from wait staff. The arancini is very delicious. Seafood platter is more than enough to feed 2. Tiramisu is very delicious. Hard to find good Tiramisu this tasty.

They look good, I'd really want to try it some day, I guess whenever I visit there I'm hitting you guys :D I just hope it's all good when I come :p

It was recommended to us that we dine at Northbridge.whilst staying in Perth. We looked for and found a place that cooked a great steak. We found it at Positanos - the rare rib-eye steak was perfect and the lamb shank ranks up there with the best I've ever eaten

Impressive pizza and service. We were walking in Northbridge unsure of what to eat and Matteo greeted us in a warm and friendly manner. We wanted pizza and wanted some extra hotness on one of them which Matteo obliged. Nothing is too much of a bother with Matteo. Throughtout the night he was very attentive to our food and drinking needs. The pizzas were very delicious. We sat outside and the gas heater provided adequate warmth and we had a most pleasant night.

DISAPPOINTED ON THIS OCCASIO. Went to Positano yesterday with my niece and partner who were visiting from Melbourne. Positano has been our favourite Italian in Northbridge for a number of years now. Got there at 13.00 pm and ordered drinks and garlic bread which was served pronto. The rest of the meal arrived a 2.15 pm with the waitress finally saying "Its coming"! My husband's simple carbonara was okay but a bit dried out. The seafood pizza was tasty but lacked some variety of seafood. My pork belly was dry in one section, so could only eat 3/4 of the piece of meat. What I could cut/eat was tasty. The chicken, scallops and prawn dish that my niece bought was minus the seafood. After a few minutes of eating, my niece realised that she only had chicken! The dish was removed and the partly eaten meal was returned in the same condition 10 minutes later with the seafood on top and coldish. Tasted nice but .... The meal was finished hastily at 3.00 pm due to other commitments that we had to attend. When I mentioned to the waitress that the wait for food was too long, she said they only had two chefs at the moment. They only had about 10 diners? Very disappointed. Also, I suspect that MSG was used because I am intolerant of it and have had a MSG reaction. I realise that MSG is sometimes not added but comes with sauces etc bought in from overseas but they should be checking labels. Price for the whole meal was $140.00 which I feel is a reasonable cost for food if you are satisfied.
I am not sure if there are new owners but the standard is certainly not what it used to be. The owners should review their service to their customers in all areas.
Wait staff are nice but not terribly attentive.

Awesome seafood platter. Being one of our regular favourite restaurants, we find the staff friendly and charming, like the very attentive Matteo. If you enjoy seafood then you can't go past their seafood platter. Includes the chilli mussels (yummy sauce), the fresh oysters, real calamari and more delights. Very reasonably priced and one of the best in Perth and surrounds.

AVOID!!!! We went here today thinking the food sounded lovely which it does, however the reality is quite different. We both ordered the pork belly (my favourite meal) and it was awful, the bottom was dry and rock hard, some of the meat was edible don't get me wrong but the majority was awful with a strange taste. The crackling was the only decent thing about this dish. It was very very fatty and just not nice at all.
The mash potatoes were dry and looked as tho they were weeks old, the veg was all either undercooked or over cooked and the "Apple compote" was just Apple sauce from a jar im sure.
So disappointed and will not be returning, we both ended up with bad tummies after eating here aswell!! Save yourself the trouble and go across the road to sorrento or if you're after a decent pork belly (or in fact anything) go to Oliver's down the road which has amazing food!!! So disappointed.

Awesome food of quality and service performance. I sat here yesterday with my couzies for a night meal, it was excellent and warm welcome from their staffs. They keep updating and asking feedback about the food. Even making fun with us, a restaurant without a great service is considered sucks although their food quality is good. Customer service should come to the first place.

Great food great service. Had the best biggest melt in your mouth lamb shanks. Fabulous service from Rachel

Great food, fantastic service. My first time at Positano and I will definitely be back! So many delectable selections on the menu. Loved the calamari entrée ... so nice not to just be served standard 'squid rings' ... and my Blue Swimmer crab tagliatelle was to die for. My girlfriend is vegetarian and they were more than happy to exclude meat and add vegetables to dishes. It's not often that she has so many options ... she had trouble deciding what to eat! The attentive Italian waitstaff were outstanding! Glasses never empty and perfect timing for all courses coming out for all our guests. Everyone had a great time and it was the perfect birthday dinner for my girlfriend.

Pleasant surprise. Haven't been here for years but popped in after a movie . Had the best service we have had in ages in Perth . Attentive Italian wait staff. . Delicious chilli crab pasta . Superb tiramisu and pannacotta. We will be back.

1/2 Margherita w/ham & 1/2 Margherita Bocaccini And Basil Pizza, Grilled Calamari And Prawns Salad Entreè And Garden Salad. Pizza was nice and not too complex. The grilled Calamari and real prawns were a nice surprise and really tasty. Chilli Mussels were not too spicy that my kids could enjoy too!!!

Great service and excellent food on a stormy Sunday afternoon. It was cold, windy and raining when we decided to take our kids out for lunch. Positano impressed us with a warm wood fire heater and mellow jazzy music. They offer pizza, pasta, seafood and steak dishes. Specials include soup, lasagna, barramundi and porterhouse steak. The service was attentive and the food's great.

Always great. My partner and I had lunch at Positano's yesterday. We have eaten here on a number of occasions and as usual, yesterday's visit didn't disappoint.
We only had mains yesterday, but wow! The biggest lamb shank I have seen. The meat was falling off the bone whilst I was looking at it. The garden veges and the mashed potato completed a perfect dish. I was looking forward to the profiteroles for dessert, but unfortunately I just couldn't eat anything else.
Our wait person, Tomas, was great. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and he was entertaining to talk to.
A wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Meal after movies. Matteo our waiter challenged us to try the tiramisu and he was right, the tiramisu was to die for!!! Highly recommend for a meal or dessert. The staff are friendly and the food delicious.

We had Matteo as our waiter on the Sunday night over the Easter weekend. Great service, very attentive and friendly, and the food was lovely. Great experience!

Great evening!!!. I was walking with my friend in front of Positano when we met Matteo. He was standing at the door and he invited us to have a look to the menù we weren t sure if have dinner there or not becouse we vegetarian. I don t know how but he understood that when he told us he could make some variation to the menu to make it vegetarian in case.... so we stopped there we had delicious pasta and pizza that Matteo raccomanded to us... he gived us a little bit of entrateinement as well and made sure that our food was vegetarian he made our night we ll come back for sure thanks again Matteo

Wont be back. Went for dinner last night. Service was great, unfortunately the food wasn't.
Partner said he loved the fish on his seafood platter, prawns were ok but lobster was way overcooked & dry.
I chose pork belly (chef's recommendation on the menu). It was unbelievably salty & was indelible! Told the waiter I couldn't eat it for the excess salt & got told 'nobody else said its salty'.
The potatoes on my dish were also stone cold wen the plate came out.
We'd been there last year & weren't impressed with the meals then but gave them another go. Will never be back though.

Highly recommend this restaurant Awesome night out, Fantastic food, great service. Well done. Can't wait to eat there again

Great service & good food. He: Excellent service from the Italian waiter. Endless refill of water. Topping up of wine. Al dente pasta with the right balance of seasoning. Only disappointing dish was the garlic bread - very soggy.

She: Alfresco dining is great with the cooler weather. Perfect for people watching. Professional and friendly service. Knowledgeable about food. The pasta were cooked to perfection and taste good. Food is reasonably priced for Northbridge but I certainly would like to see more meat on my pasta.

Rate: 7/10

It's improving !. Service was great. The special mushroom risotto was to die for, perfect texture and the use of a great variety of mushrooms. Unexpectedly brilliant ! Chilli mussels entrée was delicious. Will come back soon.

Pam and David. Just home from a most enjoyable lunch at this restaurant. Our waiter, Tomas, was delightful - helpful, attentive and cheerful. The Croatian beer he suggested was excellent. Both main courses were delicious. My tiramisu was one of the best I've ever had. Good coffee. We shall definitely be visiting again in the not too distant future.

Get told where to go by the owner!!. Service was below average asked 3 times for our coffee, our other guests waiting 45 minutes for mains to come out and they even forgot to put through my wife's order so she had to go hungry as we would've been waiting another 30 mins for her food to come out.

Had to have an argument when paying and even got told where to go by the owner!

If that's not great enough he even insulted my mother and our country of origin.

2 thumbs down from me! Will never visit this place again even if you paid me!

Lovely birthday dinner. Celebrated my birthday with dinner at Positano. We (4 people) all enjoyed the food tremendously and our waitress Nina was great. One of the better restaurants I have been to lately in Perth, both in terms of service and quality of food. Prices also reasonable by Perth standards.

Good service but food is average/worst. Was there on a week day and outing with friends.
One of my friend ordered the lamb shank and it was uncooked in the middle towards the bone, cold. Looks like it was reheated in the microwave. Lamb shank is meant to be cooked well and in this occasion it wasn't. The spaghettic dish I ordered was ok.

Also, we didn't know a bottle of water cost $6!!!!!!!! We thought it was tap water and free. So we ordered a couple of water and total cost of water was about $18... Would be great to advise us water cost this much! What a rip. Very costly water.

Customer service is good but food isnt. Best to avoid this place.

YMMV

Excellent Service. Mateo greeted us at the entrance to Positano Restaurant and from that moment to the moment we left, one couldn't ask for a better waiter. He was professional in all he did, understanding of us having a Paradiso movie to get to, and his attitude and friendliness made the dinner a great experience. I'm sure the other waiters and waitresses there were great too but he was outstanding. And by the way, the food was excellent and good value too. But for us, the service is what we remember. Thanks Mateo, J&J.

Good food and service in Positano!!!. I ve been in Positano restaurant yesterday evening and I ve been impressed about the quality of the food and the good service with we have been treated. I had good time with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed the croatian beer that we never tried before. The waiter did a good service and wasn t too invadent, he let us talk and eat, he just checked if everything was ok to be sure to do a good service, as he explained. We ll come back for sure. I recommend that place.

Irate customer. We sat down and ordered at 6.20pm, 2 simple meals. 20 minutes later a couple sat at a table close by. They had their meal before us and at 7.10pm I asked why the delay. The manager came and assured us 5 more minutes and the food would arrive. 7.20pm it arrived and we had to eat it quickly in order to walk to the EAGLES concert. Disappointing service to say the least. Positano would have known to expect a large amount of diners so should have been prepared.

Excellent service. We went there with my friends the other night for dinner and couple drinks and were really surprised.. excellent customer service from nice czech guy (who recommended us a european trip), he took a full care of our drinks and food, his tables seemed to be clean and tidy, quick response for our calls and refills.. food was good but he made our night, we'll be back

Wont Be Back. The one time we visited this restaurant, the waitress brought out warm beer so we asked for cold ones. That took so long we thought she was brewing it!
Eventually we got the replacement drinks and along with the cold beer a very very frosty waitress.
We were not rude to her at all, quite polite actually & yet her manner was atrocious.
It would not matter what the food was like, we would never go back because of the attitude of complete and utter indifference & disdain.
Shame on them.
In fact our visit was a while ago now & I've just walked past the restaurant & the experience was so vivid to us I decided to write this.
Dont waste your money.

Went for lunch with my partner. Ordered a chicken salad no tomato. Saw him write no tomato too. Came out with tomato. Sent it back. Came back out and started eating only to find they picked all the tomato out but left a couple in there at the bottom. Sent it back again and didn't want another one so went home hungry. My partner said his pizza and Chilli mussels were nice so at least someone left happy and not hungry.

Very Slow, Don't bother. An hour to make 1 pizza and 2 arancini balls, The staff on the floor were very fast and you have to wave them down all the time for drink refills as they don't notice when you're empty, but the drinks came out quickly, but take a look out the back in the kitchen and you'll see the slowest chefs in the world. I wanted to jump over the counter and help out. Also take not if you use an entertainment voucher as they did the dodgy and only took off 20% not 25%, I would usually make more of a fuss but it wasn't worth it and after already complaining about the slow service I was just glad to be out of there. lots of people left without getting there meals, They really need to get a better system in the kitchen.

Nothing special better to be had in this location

Worst italian I've ever had. Plastic, bland pasta. Tasted like heated bottled pasta sauce. Slow service.

Absolutely disgusting. I ordered the lemon pepper calamari and it was unlike any calamari I had ever seen before. Over cooked and crunchy beyond being palatable. Laughable side salad of limp leaves and half a red onion. Avoid this place.

So so bad. Went for an early dinner on Sunday evening and ended up coming home late after sending back our dishes 3 times and then leaving to try another restaurant. Our 2 chilli mussels and pasta had hot parts and extremely cold parts...asked to heat it up but came back exactly the same... asked again but same outcome!! When it came out again for the third time, we noticed the dishes hadn't even been stirred and the top mussels were baked so much that they disintegrated in my hands!!! And yet still cold?????? Never again... just embarrassing for perth!

Disappointed. Not able to provide my Wife a gluten free meal except chicken risotto , without chicken , the risotto was pretty ordinary , and got charged the full price . Why ? Was told that it was a busy night so not able to provide anything else gluten free. This is a large restaurant in the middle of Northbridge so very disappointed...

Great Food and Even Better Service. Had a great night, had the Surf and Turf, prawns were nice and juicy and steak was lovely and tender.
Staff were amazing, always making sure I had a full drink and that everything was up to standard.
10/10! Will definitely be going there again!

Great atmosphere. Food even better!!!!. What more can I say... the staff are genuinely pleasant, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect. If you want to watch the world go by and enjoy great italian food, this is the place 5 stars (and I am generally very picky)

Microwaved food. Shame the food isnt cooked fresh.... our meals were barely warm... and clearly microwaved.... the waiter was lovely but could not quite understand when we said our food was cold...

The vibe. Even on a cold winters night a group of us had a really enjoyable night under the heaters. There is a great vibe created by the happy helpful staff. The food is excellent and the wine menu was great. The price was set at a reasonable price!

Great food and service. Took my family there for dinner and we loved the food and service - the pizza was YUM and the chicken parma even better. My fella rates a restaurant based on their chicken parma and that's always the deciding factor in going back - we will go back to Positano's for sure!

Great meal. Went for dinner with my partner, got the garlic prawns as entrees...which were delicious . Both had the veal, great food, good service, highly recommend it. We'll be back.

Disappointing Lunch. Had Lunch at this restaurant today.
Food was very, very average. My husband and I had Arancini as a starter....nothing more than some risotto rolled into a ball and cooked in breadcrumbs. We then went on to have the veal medallions with prawns and a brandy jus. This WAS NOT veal, baby beef perhaps! but as tough as old boots, prawns were nice, but the brandy jus was thick and not very tasty. All this was served with awful floury mashed potatoes.
Questioned our waitress as to the validity of the veal...she said and I quote "I do not know this, but will tell chef". Never heard any more about our complaint, and so we paid the bill and left, NEVER to darken the door of this restaurant again.

Seafood Platter.... $45.00.... Get one. Take a look at the picture we added. That will say a 1000 words. All that for $45.00.... Great value

FANTASTIC NIGHT. The food was most enjoyable and the service from the waitresses was fantastic and entertaining. Will be back for sure.
Malini Tanabalan
The food wasn't too bad. But... My partner and I had to wait for almost a hr before we were served our mains.

Food was nothing special, I ordered a seafood pizza, a green salad and a carbonara linguini. The seafood on the pizza was dried out and the overall taste was bland a bit like cardboard. The salad was ok and the pasta was average with some bits of bacon mixed in. For the amount we paid, this was not value for money at all. Not impressed.

Mostly shocking service and meal I have had in Perth, would not go back and definitely not recommend to anyone. My mum, sister and myself went for a pre concert meal thinking arriving at 6pm we would have plenty of time to eat prior to concert. The restaurant was not busy but staff seemed to be rushing around. An hour and 10 mins after we had ordered our meals had still not arrived, after asking a member of staff where out meals were, we were told it would be another 10 mins at which time 1 meal arrived and the other 2 meals we waited another further 10 mins. I ordered fish and was very disappointed, fish over cooked and potatoes were hard and soaked in butter. I strongly advise no one to try this restaurant!!!

Food was warm not hot and lacked flavour and freshness. Amongst other things I had a crab claw shell to break to access the internal contents but even after repeated polite requests for implements to do the same was told they do not provide any. So I could not access or eat an element I paid for. Brilliant waiters, polite and inviting. Reasonable food let down because it was cold and management showing no interest to provide or discuss implements so I could break crab claw shell to access internal meat. I will never go there again under any circumstances.

My wife and I went for an early dinner to Positano last night before a show. We were very pleased with the excellent service and food. Will definitely go back.

Dinner review. 4 of us looking for a place to dine after movie - Peppi convinced us to try Positano.
Had a wonderful night - food was superb, staff were excellent (Peppi, Stephanie & Nina), very helpful nothing too much trouble - also well priced. Presented a very welcoming atmosphere and the staff made it a very enjoyable evening. Will definitely be back again very soon. Would rate food and service on our experience as an 11 out of 10 it was so good. Thanks again Peppi, Steph & Nina.

Loved the Food and the Great service. Went to Positano Restaurant on Saturday night with friends and found the restaurant to be quite pleasant, the service was excellent considering it is hard to find good service these days in Perth Restaurants. We all enjoyed our meals and will definitely be coming back again.

Dinner was average, our waitress Stephanie was excellent however apologizing for the 40 minute wait on mains, maybe if the supervisor could step onto the floor the other staff might be able to give the service that's expected of a northbridge restaurant

Awful. Just awful. Awful .... Awful. Just awful.

Awful food. Awful atmosphere. Truly overpriced for food that probably isn't even good enough to pass in a school canteen.

Friendly, smiley service but that's cancelled out by the staff running back and forth from the kitchen chaotically.

Avoid.

Dreary but nice pasts. The atmosphere and decor is a bit dreary but the crab tagliatelle and margarita pizza were really quite nice especially for the $16 deal. The staff were delightful.

Won't be back. Booking for 8 people at 7.30pm thinking that left us plenty of time to eat before a 10pm festival show. Our orders were finally taken after 8pm. Wait staff, although smiling & friendly, didn't bother to mention specials (which my husband & I saw the board later and said we would have ordered from), and when asked at 8.45pm to check whether our meals were coming any time soon, the reply was "they're on their way". Another 15 minutes later, 7 of the meals were served. When asked 5 mins later where the remaining meal was, the waitress said "I'll check" and then we watched her walk over to another table, go inside, get the parmesan cheese & go back out to the other table. Asked a different waitress where the last meal was - she went inside to check, came back & said "it will be a few minutes". The 8th meal was served at 9.15pm.
To wait one & a half hours from sitting down to being served (for 7 out of 8 meals) is just unacceptable in my opinion. The place was busy but not ridiculously so. I think they fell down by letting "walk-ins" sit at just vacated tables while people like us with bookings were still waiting to have orders taken.
I admit that all the meals were quite nice, although nothing to rave about. Plus we were all so hungry by the time the meals arrived, AND we had to get to our show, that none of us really tasted the food we were in such a rush to eat.
My other gripe is that two men were allowed to smoke on the pathway between the actual restaurant and the outdoor tables (where we were seated) - isn't there some law about smoking near eating areas??
None of us will be back.

Possibly the worst meal I have ever had. Firstly the staff speak very little English which makes things difficult, secondly they brought out the wrong dish for someone at the table. Thirdly the chilli pasta was worse than a frozen meal the pasta itself was incredibly floury and the sauce had no taste and the crab was certainly frozen like the quality you get in the frozen section of woolworths. When I asked for some chopped chilli because there was no chilli in my dish they charged me $1.50. Everyone else's meals were of a similar low standard. What makes it worse was that they were charging $26.50 for the meal. Avoid like the plague; bad food, atmosphere, service and definitely overpriced.

Interstate visitor. Came from sydney. service was very slow which is fair enough on boxing day. pizza was reasonable. the veal was very tough . the mash was not mashed properly. They must be using poor quality veal and charging a fortune. My wifes risotto had hardly any cream and flavourless. Wouldnt recommend it to any one in sydney

Pefer Sorrentos, went to lunch with partner and the oysters we ordered were off tasted like rubbish when spoke to the girl she said that it sometimes tastes DIFFERENT wasnt the pasta we ordered was crap. WASTE of MONEY waste of time. the girl or the manager is purely rude.

A pretty ordinary restaurant...... As we were walking by last Tuesday night about 8.30pm there were very few people at Positano, so we decided to get a quick Italian meal and re-live a recent holiday in Positano, Italy.
We ordered two meals - chicken in pesto and a pizza which were delivered reasonably quickly. In spite of the few diners at Positano, we had to get up to find a waitress to ask for the parmesan cheese
My partner thought the chicken in the pesto may have been off so asked if it had been re-heated. “I dunno” said the waitress as she turned and walked off. The pizza was OK, but nothing special at all. Although the wine glasses were empty, no-one came around to offer another drink.
.......and again we had to get up to go and find a waitress so we could pay the bill.
He’s our score of Positano:-
• Food – 4 / 10
• Service - 2 / 10
• Price - 5/10
In summary, the impression we got was Positano seems like a restaurant that just doesn’t care are certainly doesn't try too hard to please. There’s a lot of choice in Northbridge and for the money, you can probably do better
World Diner
Pre Theatre Disappointment. We have been to Sorrento a number of times previously for a pre-theatre dinner, and thought this time we would head across the road to Positano. The linguini carbonara was delicious, but the chicken risotto was very wet - as if the chef had not taken into account the moisture that would come from the added mushrooms and spinach. The rice was not creamy at all, just a mass of individual wet grains. The flavour was minimal. When we advised the waitress, she was taken aback and looked as if no-one had ever complained of anything to her before - she clearly did not know what to suggest. It didn't seem worth pursuing, and so we just asked for extra parmesan, hoping this would bind the rice together. But it didn't help, so we left half the meal uneaten. A waste of $25.50. We asked for the bill, but after a long wait when it did not come, I approached the counter. It was only then that the waitress woke up to my request. The cashier was inexplicably surly throughout the payment process, including a gruff "4% surcharge" when asked if they took Amex. From the angry expressions on the cashier's face, my wife, observing from our table, thought I must have been complaining about the risotto again. I wasn't. In fact, I wasn't even asked how the meal was. We won't be back.
