In Short: Sharon Kwan Kitchen exhibits that Portugese chicken is not the only choice for chicken in Petersham. Come in for her Asian marinated flame grilled chicken and stay on for some of Sydney’s best Char Kwei Teow. . My dad makes regular visits to Sydney. Spending time with his grandchild is top of the list, but not far behind is being able to indulge in Malaysian or Indian food which sits a few levels above what is offered in Canberra. It’s the accessibility, value, and sheer choice that makes Sydney one of the best places anywhere in the country for Asian cuisine. We first heard of Sharon Kwan’s cosy space dedicated to Malaysian street food last year and rushed to try it out. It was impressive and authentic, so when my Dad made a request for a lunch destination, her restaurant bubbled up to the top of the list.
A tiny eatery with a handful of tables, Sharon will welcome you warmly and guide you through the menu. Serving primarily Malaysian cuisine, there are a number of dishes from other Asian countries including Thai curries and Chinese noodle soups. The sound of clanging woks and the heady aromas will set your tastebuds tingling.
Everything here reminds me of home cooked food back in Malaysia. Every dish just exudes love and passion. Sharon's such a lovely person she's always asking for feedback. Looking for humble Malaysian dishes, go to Sharon Kwan.
Was looking forward to Sharon Kwan Kitchen based on reviews but unfortunately it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The good dishes were the roti canai with beef rendang and also the mi goreng with prawns. The hainanese chicken was not nice and the other chicken dish had minimal flavour. Price wise it was also on the higher end. The ladies working there friendly and the service was fast.
Sunday night driving on Parramatta Rd trying to check out a Malaysian food truck, selling halal food, served by authentic Muslim Malays. I caught sight of the queue outside, decided to drive past further down the road. I was too hungry to join the rest of the masked Asians outside the food truck.
Luckily, Sharon Kwan was just further down a few buildings on Parramatta Rd. I have read about it before the pandemic, but have never dropped in for a look see. I'm glad I did.
CKT with duck egg was delicious. Maybe an extra prawn might be worth the $19.50 cost? It was smoky, spicy and sweet Chinese sausages that balances the whole noodle dish. Ayam bakar was sold out, so had the Thai version instead. Spicy sambal sauce was just that. It was f####n spicy, I was a human fountain. I started to hallucinate and wondered if I was in the jungles of Borneo or slumming in the housos of Bkk! I loved it. I don't know about my gut though...
Chicken was ok, nothing extraordinary but the CKT was pretty damn tasty. Sharon? the lady I was speaking too was friendly as we chewed the fat on other Malaysian eateries. I know a few secrets now in Sydney... 😂
I came here tonight with a few friends for the first time and it already became my favourite Malaysian place in Sydney! The food is simply amazing!!! I felt like I was sitting at KL! Sharon was super friendly and hospitable. It was so worth making it the way there!
Great food, authentic. Very friendly and helpful service. Will definitely come back again.
