My 1st visit here in about 30 years so it certainly had changed. We chose to dine outside in a lovely covered area, with solid wood tables and benches. Very pleasant. Our meals were pretty good too. The Roast of the day was Beef at a cost of $20, which was a generous serve and presented well.The other meal was the BBQ pork ribs, which were served with chips and a small side salad. While it was very nice, I did think it was extremely overpriced at $38. I know ribs are a bit on the expensive side to buy from the butcher but still thought this was over the top. My choice of course but wouldn't pay that again.Waitress was friendly polite, as was the barman who was very happy to get me a container to take my leftovers home in. All in all, a great experience. We will return for sure.
I returned for a Saturday afternoon session so it was less crowded this time. They had plenty of bar staff so no queuing this time. It was quite a good atmosphere. They musician that they had was fantastic - great song selection. We ordered some pizzas which were ok.
Just had a Sunday sesh with the guys. All were really happy. Buffalo wings good value and delicious blue cheese sauce. To be honest unless the wings are covered in franks hot sauce I'm a bit biased but these were yum!! The buffalo burger was loved and the chicken schnitzels were enjoyed by all. Good tunes not too loud and great atmosphere.
Soup of the day was a delicious bowl of chilli. All in all it can be hit and miss today was definitely a hit.

Had a dinner with family prior to a Jazz SA night, with Nazareth Catholic performing early on. Very friendly staff and a nice decor in the dining room. Meals ordered and served in a timely manner. I had the 'burger' which presented the burger challenge of how does one eat a tall burger? Brioche bun along with usual burger, bacon, etc. Nice fries with it and a nice meal overall. The friendly staff and the nice decor tap it up to a 4. Happily come back some time.
Mushroom Month has returned to the Highway for its sixth year. Kicking off from the 1st of July, they are offering up a veritable haven for lovers of fungi. Swiss brown, king brown, porcini, shemeji, enoki, oyster – all doing there bit and bringing their distinctive flavours, form and texture to the 5 dishes on offer.

Launching on 1 July and running for the entirety of the month I was lucky enough to be invited to the tasting night where they presented the special mushroom themed menu. Swiss brown mushroom and courgette roulade with smoked tomato bearnaise, parmesan crisp and pickled pearl onion. The roulade was light, moist and juicy. The pickled onion provided a good tangy contrast to the sweet tomato bearnaise and the parmesan crisp gave the dish a beautiful salty crunch. An amazing start to the night ahead.

The Highway Hotel is really bringing their A-game on with their new ‘Game Season’ menu. We were lucky enough to be invited to their tasting night where they showcased the goods. The season kicks off May 16th through to 30th and may I suggest you join the team while you can. The night was kicked off with Kangaroo Tartare. Served on an organic buckwheat cracker, a slice of radish and puffed rice, the Kangaroo Tartare was rich and velvety. The wasabi crème sealed the dish and gave it a burst of fresh creamy spice.
This week, we were invited to attend the official ‘Game Season’ menu tasting at The Highway Hotel, situated on Anzac Highway just out of the city. In its fourth year running, The Highway’s ‘Game Season’ encompasses all that is unique and out-of-the-ordinary, offering innovative dishes of all different types of meats including the likes of kangaroo, buffalo, wallaby and more.
A hearty serve of food, sports on many televisions, pokies. This was a central location between the city and sea for a catch up with an old friend. Soon Kevin sheedy is holding a lunch here March 17, could be fun!
The Highway launched their new Winter menu last week which featured a whole-lotta mushrooms – making hump day more bearable – and nutritious. Located on 290 Anzac Highway in Plympton, you too can grab a warm, hearty meal from this fancy pub this season and not feel at all guilty about it! After being left energised and feeling healthy after consuming the many different kinds of mushroom varieties, we can proudly say we 100% recommend the whole-heartedly-made meals.

Chilli for Charity has a nice (fire) ring to it and it's happening at The Highway at 290 Anzac Highway, Plympton. Tempting Palates was invited to taste the menu which is available throughout August. For every meal purchased $1.00 will be donated to the Hutt St Centre which is a charity helping people facing homelessness to rebuild their lives. Although the food and drinks were provided free of charge, it was consensus amongst everyone at the table to make a donation to help kick start the campaign.

The portobello burger was first to come out. It was the dish of the day. It was served with brioche bun, onion rings, cheddar and truffle aioli. The sides were mustard and chips. The flavour combination of the cheddar, truffle aioli and portobello was lip smacking. The cheddar gave the sharp taste to the burger, yet not pinning down the portobello. Oh! And the chips were great too!
Easy for a midweek dinner with the girls. Quick and friendly service. The menu is pub grub, with lovely pizzas too, all of a considtantly good quality. Counter service, and the give you a buzzer thingo to let you know when your food is ready. The out swig beer garden area is light and comfortable and means you can sit and enjoy. The place, for its size, has a great vibe.
Excellent night food, service & atmosphere could not be faulted 5 of us shared the seafood platter for entree which we all enjoyed and the mains were really yummy
Good food, great atmosphere. My boyfriend and I went to the Highway on Saturday and it was packed! We had to sit outside because there was no room inside, our own fault... we didn't make a reservation. It's okay though, we sat near a heater! The atmosphere at the Highway was awesome. They had a large screen on which the football game was screened and everyone was drinking, eating or socialising! The food was nice, I had a chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce and my boyfriend got the ribs. He let me try some of the ribs and they were AMAZING!!! So tender and the bbq sauce they put on them was TO DIE FOR. He let me dip some of my schnitzel into the sauce because it was heaps nicer than the pepper sauce I got. The schnitzel itself was nice but I've definitely had better pepper sauce before. Great place to go for a good pub meal and a great atmosphere
I like a Sunday afternoon in the beer garden. Especially when they have a live band. Staff are generally friendly. Pub grub food, with sometimes interesting offerings like deep-fried pickles, which I had seen in a movie but not tried before. I liked their pear salad when they had that, too. Couldn't recommend dining in the restaurant part with kids though. It just isn't kid friendly and they only had one high chair. Good, comfy beer garden with an impressive big screen - probably a plus for people who enjoy footy. I've never been to a movie night there, but think it would be fun. They have some good events advertised.
Eat there regularly and have generally been happy with the consistency of the food. Salad is not great but the pizzas are very nice. Had a Cajun style stew once which was very tasty. Drinks here are a bit on the expensive side but a great facility all round.
Vego food at the Highway Inn. The Highway is my local pub. My partner and I, who are both vegetarian, go there often. And we often bring other vegetarian friends. Why do we go to The Highway like, all the time?
1. Because they make me a vegie burger when I ask (it's not on the menu, but they'll always make it for me, no probs)
2. Because their eggplant and chevre pizza is to die for (once again, not on the bar menu, but they'll make it when I ask, no prob)
3. Because it's a fabulous place to meet groups of friends, including kids and babies (running around space, playing on ground space)
4. Because they have indoor and outdoor fires in winter
5. Because they'e had mulled cider recently!
6. Because you can go to the restaurant, the bar, or the sports bar - all very different spaces
7. And because on Friday nights a very cute woman serves us drinks at our tables, and makes us feel special

Went for a Sunday lunch. Menu system confusing as main menu stated available all the time although we were told to select from the smaller menu. Service was good. Staff polite. Food reasonably quick approx 20 minute wait. We had various dishes:- ribs, burger, schnitzel and fish plus garlic bread - all hot and delicious.
Good food and service in restaurant. Impressed for a pub.
Yummy Pizza. This place has some of the better pub meals in Adelaide, and does not try to be anything that its not. Good pub food, pizzas a great. Oysters are suprisingly good. Excellent choice to spend a sunday watching the footy on a big screen with pizza, steak and beers to follow. Thumbs up.
Looks amazing since the recent renovation. Definitely a cool place to grab a bevvy and a meal and chil out under an umbrella in the outdoor area.
A bit pricey, but the parmi was worth it. one of the best
Had the Parma. Nice enough but the cheese could have had more flavour. The steak Parma didn't taste much different from the chicken though.

Fantastic Everything. This has got to be the best meal I have had in quite a long time. I was tempted to try the Veal Schniztel, but the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable waiter, James, offerred the Salmon (fish of the day). Thank God I went with that! It was mouthwatering and the flavours were perfect!
James really knows his stuff. He knows the ins and outs of the kitchen, he knew all the specials, and ingredients, by heart. Most wait-staff barely know just the specials. His knowledge impressed me as did the service of all the other staff.
Albeit there were some rowdy kids, whose parents didn't know how to control them (word of advice, don't bring your kids here if they're tempted to touch fire and ruin everyone else's dinner, der!)
We also had the Garlic and Paprika bread (YUM) and a side of house salad, side of mushrooms (some of the best mushrooms i've had) and we also had a main of meatballs, and the salt and pepper squid. All were cooked and served to perfection.
Finished off with a hot chocolate that was to die for!
The decor is relaxing and the tables are well set out. The service is definitely 11 out of 10!

We went to the Highway for lunch to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. There were 7 adults 3 kids and a baby, all but one enjoyed their meal, my daughter didn't like the kids pasta and I am not sure why they chose a capsicum base for kids, would imagine a tomato base would be more popular. The wait staff were all very friendly and did their jobs well and quickly. The decor is great with some nice art on the walls and all fittings are high quality. The menu has a huge range, as you expect at a pub, but they seemed to do the variety of food well. Great for larger groups as there will be something for everyone. We'll go back again.
Great variety on the menu, fantastic modern decor. Doesn't have that tacky 'bistro' feel. The food is interesting and exciting, the pumpkin pizza I had was beautiful. The churros are a must for dessert, extremely moreish. Service was fantastic as well.
The Highway has won a stream of AHA awards and rightfully so. Since the renovations back in ’06 (I’m guessing here!) they have drawn crowds of diners and party-goers. The hotel boasts a huge beer garden area (heated for those colder months!) with a monstrous screen to watch your favourite sport. ( The HWY ) 8. This was another rare occasion where all four members of the Chopping Board were able to meet up and review together. On arrival, Head Chef, Nick Finn provided a detailed run down the menu, produce, how it was sourced, prepared and presented, along with a few of their craft beers for tasting to entice us to stay for the night!
The stranger and I got invited to The Highway on the corner of Anzac Highway and Marion Road a couple of weeks ago to sample their new summer menu produced by The Highway’s head chef, Nick Finn and his team with our meals and drinks paid for ( – this does not influence my post whatsoever). Service wise, The Highway has got it spot on. The two waiters who dealt with us were both professional and efficient while being friendly and accommodating. The Highway demonstrates that a pub can serve good, interesting food and be a better than average venue for a meal out. We’ll definitely return.
