In the Main Street of Portland this is the place to get the freshest piece of flake I’ve ever had. The batter was light and crispy the flesh was white and thick cooked perfectly. The potato cakes were ordinary unfortunately but the fish was delicious. There is a great variety of fresh seafood to purchase if you want to cook it yourself. Staff where pleasant and helpful. Best fish shop I have ever been to. Peter sources the best product and will not sell it if it's not up to his high standards. His fish and chips are also the best I've had. No one else goes to the same lengths to perfect the batter mix and individually seal any holes in the batter to achieve a perfectly sealed crust in which the fish is steamed, rather than fried by the oil. Every piece is then rolled in paper towel to minimise oiliness. Next level attention to detail at no extra cost. Make sure to buy before 6pm weekdays. He doesn't cook on weekends. His main business is locally sourced fresh fish and doesn't like to be called a fish and chip shop. If you appreciate his integrity, you will go out of your way to shop there.
We wanted fresh fish to cook ourselves, and Peter helped us make a delicious pick. In the time it took us to go next door to get cash out (no EFT), he had fried us a different cut of fresh fish, free of charge. Lovely surprise, great service and amazing product!
