The food was good and it was relatively cheap. The service was amazing, the waiter served us very well and they were quick!! Will definitely come back again.
For me dining usually falls into two categories, cheap & cheerful or special/fine dining. Happy Phoenix is a fine example of the c&c category after passing it countless times over the years, I’m very happy to have now eaten here.
Catching up for an early dinner with a mate, I purchased a nice bottle of Riesling over the road before we found our seats at one Happy Phoenix’s laminex tables. Service was courteous and quick and an hour and a half later we departed full and happy having thoroughly enjoyed our dinner of steamed dumplings with sweet & sour sauce, satay beef, mapo tofu and special fried rice. Classic fried ice cream rounded off the meal perfectly.
Thanks Happy Phoenix! We will be back.
One of my guilty pleasures and favourite places for classic takeaway Chinese. Cheap as, tastes good and can’t go past the steamed dumplings with spring onion and ginger dipping sauce and lemon chicken.
Local Chinese restaurant which reminds me of going out for dinner with the parents when I was young. Very western style dishes and extremely hot and fresh. Prices are fantastic and I like the food, I don’t mind fluro sweet and sour with some special fried rice 😂 local spot and if you live within walking distance go get a mid week feast. Thanks
Affordable, tasty, and generous portion; most restaurants can only tick two of those three options. But my friend, that is not the case with Happy Phoenix. Located near the shopping district of Chapel street, Happy Phoenix offers an original Chinese cuisine that boasts flavors, price, and portion.

I feel like people who go here buy almost the same dishes; salt & pepper calamari, Mongolian beef, honey chicken, lemon chicken, or mapo tofu. Not that I'm complaining, they're really good actually. But just a tip if you don't like sweet taste on your main dishes (hey some people prefer savory when eating asian food with rice), the Mongolian beef is sweet and has big portion that when I first tried it (shared for two people), I couldn't finish it. Overall, this place is good and owner is so polite to customers.
A huge local favourite. The fried chicken with spicy salt is one of the greatest delights in my life and you should make it one in yours. I have takeaway most weeks and its always 10mins to pick up. Delicious and who can resist free prawn crackers. Skip Green Dragon next door, this is way better.
Cheap eats and refillable rice 🍚!! The place is quite small but cozy and service is really good🙆🏻 recommended dishes are mapo tofu, mongolian beef and salt & pepper calamari 🤤. The location is convenient for those taking the tram, by using tram 72 will get you there 🚃. Just remember to bring some 💰 since it's cash only 😊
Really enjoy this place. Honestly went here because Green Dragon is closed for refurbishment next door but was pleasantly surprised. Cheap and cheerful and actually really tasty. Serving sizes are generous and how doesn't love free prawn crackers with a larger order. Favourites are the lemon chicken and special combo. Will have to split our time between here and next door now.
Make sure to call in if you want to dine in since it’s quite a small venue. The dishes are amazing and the price is below average in Melbourne. Must try!

Helen is the loveliest person and amazingly remembers our order every time we ring. The food is always fresh and tasty and always hot. The homemade springs rolls are our favourites. Definitely worth a visit.
A weekly favourite of ours. Real cheap and authentic Chinese food. Staff are also super cute and friendly. We've tried Chinese elsewhere in the area and nothing compares. Give the honey chicken a whirl and thank me later. Enjoy

Peter and I loved going to this restaurant. Helen is lovely. My sister from America, both our sons, Vanessa, Brenda and Dennis, and many others all loved this restaurant. The food is delicious. Before we moved to the Coast this was our regular eating spot and we miss it. We had been going to The Happy Phoenix for 35 years. Merry Christmas Helen. 🎄
