Review Neptune Food And Wine - Prahran

Service and food was wonderful. We did the set menu which also accommodated for dietary requirements and had lots of food! Loved the vibe of the restaurant, would definitely come back. We had a group of four in the booths which were very comfortable.

šŸ„ Rigatoni Beef Ragu šŸ„” Roast Potatoes šŸÆ Fried Saganaki, Honey šŸ„Ŗ Nduja and Smoked Scarmoza Jaffle šŸ§€ Burrata, Beetroot, Potato Focaccia Neptune is a moody and modern Mediterranean wine bar located just off Chapel St in Windsor. The team here also brought you @tokyotina_ and @santelmomelbourne, so you know already itā€™s good. Picture saloon style booths, cafe style street seating, a fireplace and moody lighting. The cocktail menu is brilliant highly recommend the Pampered but thereā€™s an option for everyone and great selection of refreshing Spritzā€™s. The food menu is innovative mostly consisting of small plates perfect for sharing. The Saganaki was so good, paired with honey itā€™s a match made in heaven. The Scarmoza and Nduja Jaffle is a must and packed some good heat. Itā€™s tough to ever go past a Burrata, mopped up with their fluffy Potato Focaccia bread you just canā€™t get better than that. šŸž Being Italian, Beef Ragu is usually the last thing I will order when Iā€™m out. However, I was craving it and boy did it hit the spot. What is usually a basic dish was so full flavoured, I was truely impressed. Like always, get the Crispy Potatoes. The menu changes often so some of these options may no longer be available, however I have full faith that there will be something else just as good. Perfect spot for a date! šŸ˜˜ āļø 5/5 (Excellent)

Really like the service and the food here. The fairy toast was the best, crunchy toast topped with popping fish roes was great. The steak tartare was also fabulous. Scallop and kingfish crudo was nice. Hubby had duck frites which him and the kids really liked, although I found the frites a bit soggy. I had the spanner crab pasta which I found flavourless and a bit too oily. The kids shared a rigatoni and the kitchen thoughtfully separated the dish into two dishes so we donā€™t have to do it ourselves, definitely bonus points there. Their gin cocktail w grapes and citrus was delish but I was very obsessed with the German resling I had there. Yum. Overall a very good meal.

Great experience overall. We went for the birthday special, can't say no to $5 negronis! They were just as good as if we had paid full price. Loved the ambience, intimate whilst still feeling a part of something. The food was delicious, the ragu was mouth watering, pasta cooked juuust right. Staff were attentive without being over bearing...a fine balance.

Sensational food, the pasta was some of the best I have had and the lamb shoulder just melts in your mouth. You would not be disappointed at all. The service was welcoming and warm. The attention to detail from the waiters when it came to the food and wine couldn't fault. We will definitely be back again with family and friends. You have gained your self some regulars from now on . The next day we had a follow up email thanking us fot coming in. The smallest of details makes you feel like you are appreciated as a customer .

Great value here in the warm large space that can feel quite intimate and cosseting. Excellent range of wine by the glass served by young professional staff who really know the wines thoroughly. Highly recommended for drinks, dinner, a date or a romantic meal.

Really enjoyed my evening at Neptune. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the spaghetti. The absolute highlight was the tiramisu, I think it's hard to find it better elsewhere.

Iā€™m not normally one to write a review. But in this case I feel it would be unfair not to. The service we received tonight was appalling. When seated at the restaurant we where not given a menu or even offered water. We waited 10-15mins before getting up to ask for a menu. We received absolutely no table service, anytime we wanted to order we had to get up and awkwardly ask a staff member. We also witnessed another group of guests at the venue waiting so long for services they decided to just get up and leave. Itā€™s not like the venue even appeared to be overly busy or short staffed. The staff were not friendly nor helpful, as if they couldnā€™t careless. The food was really not up to standard for the portion and the price you pay.

If I could choose any planet on which to eat delicious European food matched with incredible wines it would be Neptune. But that would be silly - and you would die. So instead I choose planet Earth. And it's a damn good thing that Neptune Food & Wine is here to fulfill all of my intergalactic gastronomical desires. šŸš€

Last nightā€™s visit to Neptune was a fantastic experience. Wonderful service, delightful young lady looking after our table and I cannot heap enough praise on the work of the chef. The food was out of this world. Every mouthful was amazing. Thanks for a great night

Absolutely stunning. The presentation of food, recommendations of wine, gin selection, fire place, leather couches, elegant and friendly service, music, lighting and variety offered is amazing. It's a space made to help you enjoy every service they offer. Will definitely be back. Aaron is the man. Stop whatever you're doing right now, stop reading reviews and get down here.

Nice and classy place to wine and dine + fantastic range of wines and food selection.

Waited for 20 minutes to be served at the communal table, tried to make eye contact and ignored. Didnā€™t even offer us water. Worst service ever ļæ½

I just read a terrible review amongst a heap of good ones and I thought, I'd better check this place out for myself... and boy, am I glad it did! The food was delicious, as were the the drinks. Service was absolutely professional and the fit out is stylish and cosy. A new "must do" venue in the Chapel St. precinct!

Great food! Great wine & Great vibe! Highly recommend.

Food was fantastic. Lamb was unbelievably tender, fish perfect and chicken SO tast. The gnocchi in pumpkin sauce were a taste sensation as was the tiramisu and hot chocolate pudding.

Visited Friday evening for a drink to be told at the door that the venue had "reached its licensing limit" at 8pm despite appearing half empty - nothing to do with us both being 40+ and not quite Instagram-worthy. Full marks for originality of excuse, less for the LA-style adenoidal delivery and rictus grin that accompanied it. Come back later she said. Ok - we'll give it 12 months and see if you're still around then after the Insta-novelty has worn off. Not quite the easy going vibe we are used to in Melbourne.

From the moment we walked it we knew it was going to be a great lunch. Brilliant, attentive staff, funky decor and delicious food. We'll definitely be back.

Sat by the fireplace ( great spot for a romantic atmosphere) and shared a few glasses of wine with dinner, the saganaki and the brocollini were amazing, rigatoni with boar ragu was good, tasty olives and a good wine list. The only thing that I probably wouldnā€™t order again is the crudo. Service is pleasant enough, regular and attentive. Wouldnā€™t go out of my way to go back, but Iā€™d pop in for a glass of wine and that saganaki again.

Had my birthday dinner here less than a week ago. The decor, food, and wine were a clear 5/5 but experience was below average. We had a confirmed dinner booking via opentable, but upon arrival, that was questioned (I did try to add some drinks prior to the date but I never said we were only drinking). Pretty soon after everyoneā€™s arrival we were being hassled to order as the kitchen was about to close. Why were we not notified of the kitchenā€™s closing time earlier? The reservation (for which I also gave card details for) itself was for 9:30, and all the other slots were much too early. Frankly the waitresses seemed pissed off. Furthermore I wish the bathrooms for the restaurant area were seperate to the people getting drunk in the bar area. There was spray all over the toilet in one of the stalls. In conclusion, considering the price point, I would suggest going elsewhere. There are much more affordable places that have quality food AND service.

Neptune Food and Wine is an oh so slick venue, which as its name suggests has a very clear focus ā€“ food AND wine. Floor to ceiling wine racks showing off a solid collection greet patrons along with a commendable by the glass list. The menu is versatile and boasts modern Mediterranean fare to take you from a light bite to dinner if you are so inclined (an option, we highly recommend). <br/><br/>The restaurantā€™s chique fitout does not come at the expense of warmth, as Neptune exudes a welcoming atmosphere courtesy of the extensive use of rich timbers, exposed brick interiors and the friendly, knowledgeable staff. <br/><br/>The brainchild of Simon Blacher and Nic Coulter (Hannoi Hannah, Tokyo Tina, Saigon Sally), Dave and Michael Parker (San Telmo, Pastuso), it is no wonder this venue runs like a well-oiled machine. <br/><br/>Our evening commenced with a selection of bites and starters. Fluffy potato focaccias whetted our appetites. The dish of creamy stracciatella, sprouting broccoli and honey mustard was stunning, showing elegance and restraint. We loved the combination of flavours. The balsamic glazed pumpkin with radicchio and gorgonzola was similarly delicious, bursting with umami. <br/><br/>Our favourite dish of the evening graced our presence next ā€“ charred octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender while retaining a robust structure courtesy of being expertly cooked. The accompanying potato aioli and nduja dressing delivered a luxurious salinity and balanced spiciness which further enhanced the flavours of the octopus. Just yum!<br/><br/>For our pasta course, we opted for the agnolotti and were not disappointed. Beneath the layer of superbly cooked pasta was decadent ricotta. Thick, syrupy, aged balsamic adorned the plate which provided an intense sweetness to complement the savouriness of the agnolotti.<br/><br/>For mains, the Gippsland grass-fed scotch served with kale and balsamic jus would have delighted any meat lover. Displaying a mastery in the manner the steak was cooked, the inch thick cut of steak was cooked perfectly from end to end. A light searing ensured that each steak was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour.<br/><br/>Whatever you do, save room for dessert and indulge in the apple tarte tatin - think sweet fruit over a comforting blanket of gloriously sticky sweet toffee and melt-in-your-mouth pastry finished with mascarpone ice cream. Simply lovely.<br/><br/>Neptune delivers an outstanding experience. Knowledgeable service coupled with well executed offerings and a thoroughly interesting wine selection. A quintessential Melbourne dining experience, well worth a visit.

Wine bars are somewhat the classier counterpart of a pub, and Neptune may possibly be the classier counterpart of Earth. I guess weā€™ll never find out in our lifetime or ever. Apparently, Elon Muskā€™s Space X organisation plans to send humans to Mars by 2024. If we canā€™t make it over to another planet, Iā€™m pretty happy with spending my time here at Neptune Food and Wine on High Street, Windsor.

Really great little bar in the bustling area of Prahran. I came here with a friend on Saturday night, and was promptly seen to. The wine list is small and I would definitely say on the more expensive side, but there's definitely something for everyone there. My friend ordered the saganaki, which was legit the BEST saganaki I've ever had in my life. Thought about it all night. It was incredible. The interior is absolutely stunning, and the vibes are nothing but amazing. Such a good addition to this part of town.
Two Sheds
After two very happy visits, Iā€™d call this a stellar bar. It has absolutely everything youā€™d want in a good bar. Itā€™s nicely set out and appointed. The premises are long and thereā€™s plenty of seating throughout for all, including a cute area at the front where you can sit on the street. As youā€™d expect the drink options are plentiful and all quality. The food is seriously excellent too. Like, exceptional. We had three dishes today and they were outstanding. A steak tartare, a cauliflower dish (possibly a keto special) and cured salmon. We seriously loved each of them. Couldnā€™t fault them. One last plaudit for the staff. They attended to us efficiently, politely and happily as our session went on here from early to late afternoon. We were quiet to start with and a bit rowdy at the end after a few bottles of wine but the level of service was consistently excellent throughout. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.<br/><br/>February 25, 2018<br/><br/>We really liked this place. The current 2.9 rating is plainly absurd. One of those unexplainable Zomato statistical anomalies, no doubt. The rating should be much higher. Iā€™m not sure what else you need to offer to make a good food and wine place other than what they offer here. Itā€™s a nice space. Well designed and easy on the eye. Best of all itā€™s not cramped as thereā€™s decent space all through and thereā€™s ample room to move. Thereā€™s a good wine selection on offer. The food was good. The staff were on the ball and pleasant. We spent a happy three hours here. This is an easy 4 in my view. It could easily go higher in time.

Stunning restaurant. Food and service was perfect. I canā€™t recommend Neptune enough. An absolutely lovely wine selection. Highly recommended.
Chronicles Of A Foodie
We like all their restaurants and their food is always tasty. It was nice to see what they would do with a European menu and its delicious. We enjoyed all the wines with the dishes we shared. I liked the steak tartare and the gnocchi especially!

This place has a really casual / laid back vibe. We have actually lost count of the amount of food and wine we've had. The food is great and so is the service. Will definitely be back for another Sunday session. Would recommend this place if you're after a nice feed with great drinks and a nice jazz band in the back as you sit and watch the world go by. Definitely coming back.

For a Thursday night it was really bustling and we stood at a small ledge waiting for a table or chair at the bar to open up for a good 10 mins.<br/>Finally got seated at this tiny ledge/table but was only given a drinks menu so we assumed we were still waiting on a table where we can order food. <br/>The waiter walked off on us halfway while talking and didn't come back to take out drinks order. After a solid 30 mins we were finally told that we could order food at this table even though it could only hold 2 plates! <br/>A different waiter took our order only to come back 2 mins later because he had forgotten it.<br/>Food came out quite fast and we were able to change tables. The entrees were nicer than the mains and unfortunately I pulled out a short black hair from my mouth which was thankfully taken off the bill. <br/>Overall, I wouldn't go back again as the serve was terrible. We could hear the waiters bickering with each other trying to sort out the waitlist and it was hard to get any attention.

Love the vibes of this neighbourhood wine bar! Good wine selection across a wide price range. There is definitely lots of variety, something for all palates. Food was delicious. Especially loved the cuttlefish skewers. Good service. Would definitely come back for seconds!

Popped in here after work one night for a cheeky cocktail and nibble - such a cool place with a nice atmosphere. We had the charcuterie and felt it was pretty good value - it was such a generous serve!! Much bigger than a lot of similar priced boards. Also had the nguja jaffle which was really tasty!! I had the Queen Victoria cocktail - very tasty, a great champagne cocktail. Also had Ruinart champagne by the glass which was another real treat :-)
The City Lane
Neptune Food & Wine is a casual wine bar in South Yarra with some serious pedigree behind it. Onwers Nic Coulter and Simon Blacher (BKK, Hanoi Hannah, Tokyo Tina) and Dave and Michael Parker (Pastuso, San Telmo, Palermo) have created a casual spot thatā€™s all about quality wines and modern Mediterranean share plates.

Mains took over an hour. Any pleasant experience is instantly lost when this happens and there is no reason or explanation. <br/><br/>Nonetheless, there was nothing pleasant about the experience. <br/><br/>The first waiter refused to provide a simple mixed spirit because it ā€œwasnā€™t on the official menuā€ even though they had vodka and ginger beer in the bar. Really quite bizarre. <br/><br/>We soldiered on. We ordered around 10 dishes. The main share dishes were simply tiny particularly given their $30 - 40 price tag. None of them were worth writing about. <br/><br/>1 Star left for good wine list and excellent sardines (ironically, these were canned and imported rather than prepared by the kitchen).
AAA
good service, great food (fantastic mushroom gnocchi!! the whole table's favourite dish), booth seating was comfortable, wine was great. recommended dishes: calamari skewers, potato skin entree (specials menu), marinated olives, heirloom tomatoes, cauliflower

I admittedly made the mistake of regarding Neptune as a restaurant, rather than a bar with food. But I also think we made a mistake by ordering heavily from the tinned menu, as everything from that section seemed to come with potato crisps. Lots of potato crisps. The main meals were a welcome relief, the flavours were good, and the place was buzzing!<br/><br/>Return visit, 18 months on, and I think the food has greatly improved here at Neptune. Their wines are still, definitely, their strong suit. And whilst the staff are friendly and accommodating, service seems a bit vague and lacking in full knowledge of the menu

We were really impressed with the food and atmosphere at Neptune! We were quickly seated by our friendly waiter. Two of us shared several dishes starting with the saganaki and the octopus followed by the caprese, a snapper, cauliļ¬‚ower, and the crĆØme caramel for dessert. The dishes were beautifully presented and the flavours very well balanced. A couple of standouts - I loved the saganaki and the caprese was incredibly fresh - my fiancĆ© thought the cauliflower was amazing. Our waiter was really helpful choosing our dishes as I do not eat red meat.
Tardar Sauce
Nice bar. Staff seem friendly, not attentive though. I like the open fireplace - needs more seating around the fireplace in winters. Nice wines. Decent bar

Wine list here ia great, I think the food could use some work though, theres not too much on offer, some mixed antipasti plates but it's a cool funky windsor venue.
Elwoodlocal
They've absolutely nailed it here. Epic offering for wine lovers and super knowledgable staff who clearly have a passion for their jobs. The food was well and truly above wine bar standards, the pan fried Gnocchi was so beautiful we had to order a second serve and the desserts were perfection. The fact that we were seated quickly, moved inside when a table freed up without feeling like a hassle to the staff, my water glass was never empty and the waiter courteously checked before he refilled the wine (but never forgot who was drinking from which bottle l!) was the cherry on top. We took our friends and his parents who were visiting from O/S and they were so blown away by the experience from start to finish. Definitely going back- thanks so much guys!

Cute decor and atmosphere. Staff started off very attentive. However, with 5 mins notice, we were told we had to move due to a function. We could have easily been notified at the beginning so we were prepared. After we moved, and no one helped us carry our drinks, we were basically ignored. We had to ask for our drinks to be topped up via the bottle we had purchased. We sat out the front and the service was practically zero. Slightly underwhelming, we were excited to go and probably won't go back.

The atmosphere at Neptune is nice and cosy. The wine wall at the entrance of the restaurant is interesting, you pick your bottle off the shelf. Decor is neat with low lights. Overall beautiful space.<br/><br/>Wine was good. Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. <br/><br/>A little disappointed with the food, we ordered lots of different plates as the waitress suggested but the portion were a bit small. Simple good flavours.<br/><br/>Would return for drinks and nibbles.
Whats On The Grill?
Really good vibe for drinks and dinner. Food was really solid - loved the eggplant and the hanger steak. Only thing that let this place down for me was the inattentive staff that almost came across as arrogant and the slightest touch over priced. Menu needs a bit of explaining and the staff weren't much help.

Great new gem on High St just off Chapel. Was pleasantly surprised that they were willing and able to accomodate our table of 4 despite not having a booking when we turned up at 6:30pm on a Friday night- the place was already pumping. To no surprise as it has been a hot topic of conversation since recently opening. We went upstairs to the cocktail bar to wait for our table to be ready- it was dark and demure but very stylish. Cocktails and wines all read beautifully and were well presented. We were given a card that accorded to our waiting list number and we were promptly alerted when our table was ready. The whole fit out is beautiful- exposed red brick with cool lighting and a beautiful open wine rack with wines available for dine-in or purchase. I was impressed instantly but my one complaint is that the concrete floor does not make for good acoustics! So with it being a bustling restaurant- it was quite noisy but luckily not unbearable. As for food, it was divine but some dishes were better than others. I found the Vegetable sides and the cheese platter to be very steep for what we were presented with. Beautifully presented- yes, but worth the quantity - questionable. The Brussel sprout side we ordered was enough for about 2-3 full tablespoons. Steak + chips was delicious but the real standouts were the pasta special with ragĆ¹ meat sauce and the tiramisu! Overall we all enjoyed it.
Kate Dougherty
Despite being such a newbie on the restaurant scene Neptune really impressed. We ordered a wide selection of dishes to share and they were all beautiful. We started with the whipped roe with bottarga, followed by the saganaki, Bonito tartare, sardines with grapes, chicken liver parfait and snapper crudo. Then out of the larger dishes we shared the waguy steak and spaghetti and a side of the Brussel sprouts. For me personally the saganaki and the bonito tartar were standouts. Not a single dish disappointed though. Our waitress was also very friendly and helpful. <br/>
