Review Sushi Handroll - Prahran

Augusto Jacquier
Nice little Japanese place, with a pleasant atmosphere and appropriately priced dishes (the Bento Boxes are great). It's got a neat, sort-of-secret room at the back with individual huts, the perfect place for a quiet lunch with friends. The area is quite convenient too, just a few meters away from Chapel St and stores such as San Churro or Ben & Jerry's if you want some desert after sushi. :)

I think this place is permanently closed. I saw the notice the owner couldn’t pay the rent for a while.. I went down to here today morning and expected a lot for the sushi, but it was closed allI could see was the notice for the owner. so sad :(

Really nice owners and a great salmon dish. Definitely a great place for a simple, quick, cheap, tasty meal.

I ordered a vege sushi platter and the sushi was made fresh, the seaweed out side still crisp, so fresh so good

Ordered a bento box. Was missing pancake and spring rolls listed on the menu. The rice was hard and stale and tofu had no flavour. Basically paid $14 for stale rice, 3 dumplings, 4 cubes tofu and a few pieces of broccoli

14 days before I went to sushi hand roll for my lunch. I order ramen and sushi on that day. However, after my lunch I shared my experience on zomato which were 'the food were not fresh and the ramen was not ramen. ' That was my true experience! But the sushi hand roll manager send email to zomato , let zomato deleted my review!

Very good place to have Japanese food!! My friend introduce this restaurant to me yesterday, and I took away the chicken katsu don. Because I saw many people order this. It is so so so nice, quite different and many things in it. I was comfortable replete! Today I order Benton box and dumplings, which are super value!

Hako sushi is better! The recommended spicy salmon don is $10 but small serve :(. Compared with hako sushi terriyaki chicken + extra meat for $10 (to make up for card payment 😉), hako is definitely more delicious & cheaper!

Salmon sashimi is quite thick which is good :)

UPDATED***
Before July 2016: Contrary to its simple name, the food at this little gem is pretty spectacular. It's authentic and super cheap! You can't go wrong with the spicy salmon on rice. At $9.80 with a miso soup it's Made Sushi-Handroll our favourite lunchtime place!

After July 2016: The place has changed and not for the better. The place has lost it's charm and now it has become 'just another' Japanese restaurant.

Absolutely awful! It's amazing how non- japanese can bastardize the cuisine by sheer lack of awareness. I had the Ebi curry on rice, nothing like the photo shown by owners. The sauce was watery and tasted bland and the ebi was not crumbed. It should've been called Bland Chinese Stir Fry Prawn On Rice. The miso soup was ok as at least it was hot but definitely a first I saw with bean sprouts. All in all, I will say I can make better Japanese curry with the packet sauce I buy from a grocery store. A real shame not to mention absolutely not worth the $11 for the dish. If you are thinking of trying, don't bother! A waste of time and money IMHO.

The salmon main is magnifique, the sushi is fresh and succulent. The service is excellent and authentic, and terrific value for money.

New favorite!. Great place for the "value to money" kind of meals. Speedy, friendly service. Hot meals are great especially the gyu tan don. Oh, and the tuna, seaweed and crabmeat inari is worth the $2.50. You know on days where you just don't feel like splurging but still want good food... yep. Today was the day and I came back to Sushi-handroll twice. Give it a try! x

Been there last week after a Temaki (as shown in the pics here) and found out they don't have this dish. The lady explaind us the place is under new management and the previous owner haven't taught the new owner how to do it. Left without dining, quite disappointed.

Not run by a Japanese family. I can't comment on food as I simply walked out as I realised it was being run by a Chinese family, not a Japanese family. No offence but I am Japanese.

Great hidden Japanese. Have walked by this place countless times before finally dropping in. I had the pork curry, which came with a big bowl of freshly made miso. The pork was nice and crunchy, whilst the curry itself was obviously fresh rather than packet made, containing big pieces of tasty potato and carrot. My mate had the yaki soba, which was huge!! Also assured me that it tasted great.

Seems to be run by a traditional japanese family. Lots of different types of saki behind the counter as well.

Have been coming here for lunch every Saturday for the last 3 years. The owners and staff are warm and hospitable and the food is always delicious, as well a great value. The portion sizes are generous and the atmosphere is inviting. Try their chicken broth and noodle dish or any of the sushi, it's all super fresh.

Welcoming, comforting, delicious. Do you ever get that feeling that if you lived near some restaurant or cafe that you know you would become a regular customer? I do, and I got it here at Sushi-Handroll. The staff were friendly, super patient and very kind... especially since I changed my order... after paying! The service remained friendly and not awkard as it can be with other restaurants when you take for ever to choose your meal. When i asked to take a photo for memories, the guy even helped me arrange my dishes so I could get a good photo... TOO NICE!!!

I choose to have a special of the day, miso soup, rice, panfried chilli tofu served with salad and pickles. For $9 I was overly satisfied. The tofu was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and every now and then you would get a kick of ginger or sesame seeds which livened up the mouthful. The salad and rice complemented the tofu well... and the miso. Boy, i've had some bad miso's in my life time but this was delicious! I would go back just to have bowls of that stuff... and for the friendly service... who know's perhaps I will have to move to High Street some day and become a regular.... for now I just have the take away menu to drool over...
