Review Sartoria - Preston

Angela Marcato
This place was in my list from a while and I am so glad we had the chance to try it. We arrived early morning, so no issue with table booking. At the entrance the manager welcomed us and explained how to check-in and his menu suggestions for the day. We had a toddler with us and they provided with no issue a stool. Sartoria (“dressmaker’ shop” in Italian) is very well interior designed, with sewing machines from the 60ies and a couple of examples of Carmela Agricola’s work, the dressmaker. Besides the great breakfast we had, we were well impressed from the kindness of the manager and his staff. It worth the pay another visit just for the great atmosphere and, of course, the food.

What a great space. Warehouse converted into a spacious cafe with cool decor. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The service was very attentive and friendly including suggestions of local favourites. There is a great selection of breakfast and lunch options including some sweet delights. Highly recommend.

The sign at the door said to wait to be seated, so we waited. Three staff members glanced up from what they were doing at various times and seemed surprised to see us standing there. Eventually told to sit wherever we wanted outside. Food was nice. Service wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. The inside looked great and I loved the sewing machines, dress dummies and other memorabilia all over the place.

The best cafe in Preston. An amazing warehouse cafe with delicious food, specialty coffee and friendly staff. I took my whole team for brunch at Sartoria. Everyone loved it. Some people had the Gippsland beef burgers some people had the super salad and the gnocchi. I had the pressed pork terrine with eggs on sourdough with hollandaise. So delicious! We were impressed to find such an amazing environment, specialty coffee and friendly staff in Preston. The new manager Steve really looked after us. We will be back!

Ambience is important to diners these days and it can make or break a cafe. Sartoria has cleverly capitalised on its past as a dressmaking, bridal and evening wear business that thrived in the 70’s for two decades and transformed it to a highly successful cafe that is popular with locals and those coming from afar. Warehouse in space and eclectic in style, this large open eatery continues to deliver on decor, style and most of all - great food and service. On a lazy Saturday morning , my adult son Tiger and I were treated to a most divine brunch prepared by new chef and addition to Sartoria - Kelly. We chose to sit at a large table that I would guess was a ‘cutting table’ for fabrics by the engravings in the top. To start was our usual of a latte and hot chocolate. The menu is extensive and but I always fall to my favourite - a Benedict breakfast. Tiger had the burrito pancakes. After we had an iced chocolate and a green juice. I cannot fail to mention the lovely Steve who was the epitome of a good host and generous with his time considering how bustling the place was at prime brunch time. A note that Sartoria are taking on functions into the future with an upcoming wedding, a birthday celebration and corporate gigs. With the funky decor and unpretentiousness, I can see another successful business step forward in 2020. Well done team Sartoria. Notes: licensed, wheelchair accessible, disabled friendly, kid friendly, reasonable parking out the front.

Brilliant new cafes keep popping up around Preston and Sartoria is no exception. Sunny street facing courtyard with umbrellas that's friendly for dogs is a great place to sit when the weather is warm. The inside is also friendly and inviting with plenty of space, industrial sewing theme which is interesting. The service was great, fast and friendly. The food was tasty and interesting. Chilli scrambled eggs had a punch and when I ordered the bacon, eggs on a bagel I was expecting a half but got a whole bagel! Bonus. Toast was a bit overdone and sourdough is unforgivingly hard but it happens. Loved the coffee. Will be back.

Delicious brunch items full of flavour and presented beautifully. It is always a treat to eat here. The soy chai latte is made well with optional honey. The flavours have a good balance of spice. Don’t pass this place by! The cakes are also yummy and well made, with vegan options.

Great selection of delicious food. Staff are very friendly and attentive. They were also really accommodating to dietary requirements. They took the egg off my brother's pulled pork dish and made till there was no onions and garlic in my gluten-free and vegan miso bowl. Sat outside in the front courtyard which was really peaceful and enjoyable. Extra brownie points for offering to refill my tea pot with more hot water.

Went there because Zomato one for one. Food was good. When we ordered we told the waiter we had Zomato food, she went to check with manager and came back and said ok just show them when we paid. When we went to pay, the manager said they weren’t onboard with Zomato yet. Waiter should have informed us when we ordered. Overall food was ok but if your advertised as one for one then it should be honoured.

This place was hit and miss. The coffees were nice and smooth. We also had a flourless chocolate lamington which was nice. My wife had the seamstress brekky and I had the Texas Benny from the specials menu. They were ok but the flavours were not up to the mark. Unfortunately under seasoned and the sauce on my benny had no flavour.

We had a lovely time at Sartoria. We ordered the chilli scramble and the seamstress and both were delicious. The service was prompt and friendly! The place was beautiful and airy. We will be back

Had a lovely lunch with my hubby. Excellent food and friendly service and great coffee. Will definitely be back. Thanks! :)

I wandered in on Sunday morning with 2 friends and was immediately greeted by a very friendly staff member who organised a table for us. The incredible aroma of the coffee coupled our senses.
You should consider making a reservation at Sartoria. The quality of both the coffee and food along with the customer service was exceptional despite there appearing to be insufficient staff on hand to manage the on going stream of people arriving. Well worth a visit ... Sartoria will not disappoint!
Veronica Karam
We ordered 4 different items and everyone was disappointed by them. Eggs no flavour and pancakes dry. The coffee was decent.
Ona
visited here sunday and this place was buzzing and full, nevertheless we were seated and attended to efficiently and enjoyed our seamstress and banana roti, coffee superb and staff attentive, they probably needed a couple more staff as outside was full also but i guess its the summer season and people go away, love everything this crew does and will be back again with more friends very soon

Sartoria is a spacious café transformed from the former seamstress warehouse, as you can see from their décor e.g. sewing machines, dresses, mannequins etc.

Their menu has the largest range of vegetarian options!

For the drinks, we ordered the Prana Chai and the Matcha latte. Love a great hot drink early in the morning!

For food, we ordered:

THE SEAMSTRESS – Potato hash, poached eggs, pea puree, feta cheese, beetroot, Greek yogurt labne – this looked awesome with all the elements on the plate and the potato hash was very crunchy. However, I think this dish was a bit light in flavour but combining everything together made it better!

THE DESIGNER – Fried Banana roti, cookie crumble, fresh banana, strawberries, topped with maple mascarpone – This was very crunchy and when combined with the maple mascarpone, it tasted really nice with a few different textures going – soft and crunchy, cold and hot etc.

THE SARTORIALIST – Crunchy coconut granola, fresh banana, strawberries, mango raspberry chilled coconut water, vegan yogurt – My friend’s dish – he liked this and said it was very nice and finished the whole bowl. I had a bite and it was very refreshing, cold and wasn’t sour with the raspberry and strawberries. The granola was really nice too.

Thank you Sartoria for having us.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brilliant! It’s been a couple of years since I was last here and very happy to be back.

The food was great, although the calamari was just okay, the prawn fritters were absolutely incredible! So delicious.

The service was exceptional and the venue was very cool, light and bright with outdoor seating too.

The prices are on the higher side for the area but they source locally and ethically (free range etc) so worth the extra couple of bucks in my eyes.

The brekkies all look amazing so looking forward to trying those, oh and they serve alcohol! Win win! Sunday funday all the way.

We were invited in to Sartoria today to try out the brunch menu in this fabulous converted warehouse space complete with old singer sewing machines still attached to some tables. This was a vibrant cafe humming with life with plenty of zones from the front courtyard to share tables to table bales for group.

We ordered off the all day menu which I liked because I got to eat lunch items at 10:30am and that always pleases. We ordered the breakfast burrito & beef burger and chips, ... again I just love the flexibility of an all day menu.

Our coffees where smooth and hot. I really liked the house blend here and found it quite a sweet extraction. Although my regular strength latte looked quite pale it actually packed good flavour. I loved my cloud apple juice too.

Kellirs breakfast burrito was a combo of scrambled egg, baked beans (house made), avo and tomato it packed a punch of heat and was an extremely generous portion.

My beef burger was juicy, full of flavour, encased in a light brioche bun and all things wonderful when it comes to burgers. Probably the best cafe burger I’ve had in a while. The chips were beer battered and the mayo/aioli on the side freaking delicious, I could have eaten this with a spoon!

We really enjoyed our visit to Sartoria today and loved the history on the walls and in the building itself. Great spot for a bite.

Sartoria is a very pretty cafe with a cool back story (it used to be a dress factory.) The history is maintained through the decor and menu items, of which I tried two: the omelette (self explanatory) and the seamstress (potato rosti with beetroot, pumpkin, feta and poached eggs, add avo). Both dishes were nice but the second was my favourite, as I'm a sucker for rosti. My soy flat white was very good and the service was great. Every person I spoke to was extremely attentive and friendly.

Based in a former dressmaking factory, Sartoria delves into the family history to create a beautiful cafe that has a lot of heart. The large, urban space has dress making paraphernalia at every turn, showcasing it's past as a bridal and evening wear business. It has a lovely and cosy ambience despite it's size, and you certainly feel at home here.

The kitchen has recently been taken over by the former head chef of Monroe in Richmond, and I was so excited to hear that she has brought her signature banana roti dish to Sartoria. The rest of the menu is based around the use of fresh, seasonal produce; and the dishes are fantastic in colour and presentation.

We tried the Eggs Benny which came with a beetroot puree, potato rostis and perfect poached eggs. So delicious, with the creamy eggs being a great contrast to the crispy rosti and earthy beetroot.

The health bowl was a fantastic blend of black rice and fresh vegetables... avocado, edamame, roasted pumpkin, pickled cabbage and greens; all topped off with crispy noodles. The dressing on the side was tangy and added an extra layer of delicious flavours to this super bowl of freshness.

Finishing with the famous banana roti, it was everything that I remembered. An absolute delight, with the flaky pastry stuffed full of delicious banana, with fresh fruit, crumbled ginger biscuit and cream on the side. This dish is sublime and I'm so glad to see it back. It's definitely one of my all time favourites.

Coffee is fantastic, and the staff are warm and welcoming; encouraging you to enjoy yourself while relaxing over your meal. Sartoria is a fantastic venue that ticks all the boxes, but also has the added bonus of an ambience that makes you feel like you are visiting family.

Local trendy cafe. Really yummy food and great service. 5 thumbs up.

Lovely setting, clean, comfortable environment with courteous and attentive service. This is only matched by the yummy food that is beautifully presented.

I was keen to visit Sartoria as I've heard that this cafe has some great food and it's one of the most popular cafes in Melbourne.

So when I received an invitation to visit I was stoked. This cafe on Plenty Rd has plenty of street parking and a tram at the front door. Too easy.

This warehouse was an old dress makers factory so I liked the old sewing machines.

I started w a home made juice of passionfruit, orange and mango (although I may have made that up hahaha) but it was delicious.

My friend enjoy a cup of tea and I liked the sand timer... 3 mins steep time.

For brunch I ordered the Vegetarian Chilli Scrambled w fresh chilli, coriander, charred corn, fresh shallots and an amazing green nam jim which was spicy and refreshing!

The eggs eggs were tasty, perfectly cooked and fluffy. The chilli was mild but the green nam jim was a great addition.

Although the majority of dishes on the menu were vegetarian or vegan, I felt like a bit of bacon which was well cooked and once again, de'lish!

My friend ordered the aptly named dish called "The Seamstress" was which was a potato hash, runny poached eggs, pea purée, feta cheese fresh beetroot and Greek yoghurt labne. There was a vegan option, or you could add some bacon.

This was extremely well received, so much so it was polished off w some very positive feedback.

To finish I was very lucky to have a Bloody Mary which was spicy, w fresh tomato juice and a good hit of Tabasco. Woo hoo. Hahaha.

This cafe is a must visit!

We were invited to Sartoria today which was a really cool and unique space. Formerly occupied by a seamstress business in the 70’s to mid 90’s, the daughter of those dressmakers has now taken over the warehouse venue and turned it into a cute little eatery with elements of its history serving as decoration.

There’s been a change in chef and management as recently as this week and the menu is also getting a revamp. We were really impressed by the friendly nature of everyone we interacted with today as well as the themed menu. I had a special for my main which was a beef brisket rigatoni but also sampled some of my dining companions who had ‘the seamstress’ which we were told was one of their most popular dishes.

I can see why as the potato hash was delectable! I stuck with the specials theme and also tried the mint and coconut iced tea. I’m usually fairly regimented with my brunch order but I was inspired to try something different here. We finished with ‘the dressmaker’ which was a pancake dish and pretty as a picture. I loved the yummy coconut flakes on this.

Definitely recommend visiting this special cafe as the legacy lives on in the next generation

Had a great brunch here today. Friendly and attentive service, great coffee and generous serves, especially the benedict...mine came with a pile of salmon!

Satoria, a spacious cafe with a meaningful history behind its name.

My partner and I dropped in to Satoria for a late brunch. Satoria offers seating out front in their courtyard and plentiful of seating on the inside.

When you walk in, you can read Satoria’s back story written on the back wall. Along with the good music, this builds the atmosphere and gives you a feel of the cafe vibe. A must read when you come in.

For drinks, I got a strong latte and my partner ordered a hot chocolate. The drinks came out quickly and were ok.

I ordered a build your own with scrambled eggs, avocado and chorizo. My partner got the beef burger that came with chips and mayo dip.
Food came out promptly, was cooked well and had nice seasoning.

Overall, we enjoyed immersing ourselves in the history for one family at Satoria.

Went for a breakfast . Coffee is great no doubt you can taste coffee and chocolate for Mocha and turmeric Golden latte was nice . But in terms of burger, I found them very average with little sides. Patty and cheese were same as everywhere and chips was not but nothing extraordinary. Might visit again . Need more variety in food for that price range.

7/10 from me maybe because I heard good things and had very high expectations for this place
Coffee here is good. Chai latte had a good spice flavor. Hot chocolate had good froth and was not overly sweet. Overall all the hot drinks here were 👌 on point
For food, we got the burrito, benedict and potato hash.
The burrito was generous in size, good if you have a big appetite. Scramble egg was nicely cooked and the ratio of ingredients in the burrito is perfect. This was a delicious dish.
The Benedict had a nicely prepared pulled pork, with good barbecue flavor and it was not fatty. The dish was a good dish though it was a little too heavy on the hollandaise sauce but that is just my own preference.
The potato hash itself was one of the best I’ve had. It was crispy and crunchy, most importantly, not oily at all! However, the smashed peas was under seasoned and the beetroot cubes didn’t go with the dish for me.
Aesthetically, the cafe looked amazing and I like the theme of a seamstress 😊 good place for a Sunday morning brunch

It was my second visit to Sartoria. Food was just as awesome as it was on my first visit. I tried The Omelette and trust me it was very filling and amazing. Confeit mushroom added the other dimension to the dish in conjunction with crispy kale and pesto sauce. With every bite there was a hint of truffle oil that was lifting the taste of the dish
Other dish we tried was The Carmela, It was good as well and trust me dont go with the portion on plate it was just so filling. Everything was perfectly cook, being a gnocchi you have to have it when its hot and loaded with yummy sauce. Because once it gets cold you will actually lose the bite and the taste.
Third dish we tried we Burrito .. this wasn’t that impressive but people who like subtle taste may like it. We find it missing some kick of sauce or sort of umami. Would recommend to try with some spicy sauce and instead of baked bean try with black bean. But i dont think they change the dishes. But i guess they should include some sort of kicking add on to the dish

Sartoria Melbourne is a fully licensed café which boasts a menu of innovative brunch and lunch dishes.

The name Sartoria is a nod to the eatery’s former life as J & C Agricola, a dressmaking, bridal and evening wear business that thrived from the 1970s through to the 1990s under the guidance of Joseph and Carmela Agricola. J & C Agricola may have been long gone but the former dress factory has now been converted to Sartoria thanks to owner – and Joseph and Carmela’s daughter – Adriana Agricola’s vision to combine two of her loves: food and fashion.

The eatery has a great vibe with plenty of natural light streaming through the windows alongside machinery and novelties straight from it’s dress factory days.

The menu has something to suit most. For the health fiends, the The Organza is a must. Think superfood salad with buckwheat, kale, edamame, carrots, beetroot, sweet potato and nuts, all brought together by a lemon dressing. For something heartier, we recommend The Carmela which is a beautiful plate of fluffy soft house made potato gnocchi with sage, buerre noisette, sweet potato and heady pecorino.

Was really keen to try this place out based on reviews and photos. However ordered pancakes that came out cold and seemed to be premade. Menu stated it came with Nutella, nuts and roasted coconut... sadly that was missing off my plate.

On the plus the place was busy and staff were friendly. Would give them another go, just won’t be ordering the pancakes again. Other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked great.

This is the first time we are trying this place. It is a small but cosy place. The staff are super friendly and food are good for the money value. We used our zomato gold membership in this place and it was super nice brekkie.

Sartoria was a really cute place, nice coffee, sadly the iced chai was terribly watery and a bit tasteless nothing special but the "seamstress" dish was utterly delightful - full of flavour and texture and good serving, my sister had the pancakes which for $20 they didn't look amazing with a quarter scoop of ice-cream and underwhelming toppings but she said the taste was ok. They were really dog friendly, water bowls and free treats for the doggos. Unfortunately the service was all over the place, took ages to get served initially, then ordered drinks to begin but took a long time for them to arrive in between we were asked really often if we wanted food even though we had let them know we wanted some time & then when coffee finally arrived food was also delivered near instantly which was awkward to juggle with a puppy in our arms. Overall, the staff seemed to want to serve you well and very friendly, I would give them another shot but be aware it's a work in progress.

Love coming to this local. Friendly and attentive service no matter how busy they are. Food is always delicious. A gem in Preston. Will definitely come back.

Ordered the ham&cheese croissant and battered fries with dip. Loved both of them and food came out quick. Will be trying other dishes in my next visit.

I absolutely love Sartoria. The staff are lovely, coffee delicious and the food is to die for. My favourite is the seamstress, it's a lovely balance of flavours!
SuziEats
The space is amazing. It has been kept in tact from its dressmaker days. There is material, a sewing table and it’s a quirky effect. The space is large but doesn’t feel cold. The service is friendly however the food was not great on this occasion. The flavours seemed overpowering and the hollandaise sauce quite vinegary. Even though the food looked pretty on the plate. The flavours just weren’t there. Would go back and try them again though.

Ordered 3 milkshake and 2 coffee wait for 45mins not happy about it staff didnt care and I taste the coffee not the best I had better coffee at my house
Bobby
Love this place!!! Friendly welcoming staff and delicious, fresh and wholesome food. Interesting history as well as with lots of remnants from its dressmaking days. Top it off with great coffee and an outside area for sunny days... can't fault it!! :)

Found this place on Zomato and what a unique venue for the suburb. I ordered the potato dish and its was a wonderful mix on flavours and colours. Keep up the good work and look forward to visiting again.

Bit of a mixed review of this one. Enjoyed the sevice. Staff very attentive. Was told they wouldn't take the goats cheese off one of their dishes even though i was intolerant to dairy so i had to change my dish. However the dish i ended up with was still really delicious. Would go back

I honestly want to like this place but the food here needs a lot of improving. Vegetable Lasagne is soft over cooked potato sheets with eggplants for the princely sum of $20+. No sides nothing. Service staff seem more interested in dancing around to the music and chatting and laughing than worrying about the customers- no wonder it’s 70% empty at lunch. I really hope they improve.
Mish 🍔❤️
The decor was very nice and themed, very busy and loud restaurant though.
The staff were nice. I think the food was over priced for what you actually got. The bagel was very hard and was difficult to cut. I found the food to be very average here. Not sure if I would return.

A great place to come for brunch in the South Preston area. Inside, the cafe has an spacious and industrial feel. The staff are prompt and pleasant and the service was generally quite good.

The Spindle (chilli scrambled eggs) was delicious, well seasoned and a good portion size. The Benedict was equally good and clearly made with fresh, quality produce.

Coffees were brewed well and all meals came promptly.

Overall, a great brunch place which I will happily return to in the future. One of the better choices in this area.

Was here last saturday (11/8) for brunch and so glad to find this awesome local cafe :) The coffee and food were a little overpriced, but worth it as they were not stingy with portion sizes at all. One of the waiters forgot to put in our order so we had to wait a little longer for our foods to come. However, I really appreciate that he was very honest kind and apologetic, and even told us that the coffees were on the house!

I absolutely love this cafe. It’s such a unique and fun fit out, obviously and purposefully matching the name. You’re surrounded by everything to do with tailoring and dressmaking - and the menu follows the same theme - it’s the best!
The food is also delicious making this place well worth a visit (and a courtyard at the front which is dog friendly).
So the food- we tried the beef burger which was big and juicy and the potato hash. Both really good.
Caught up with friends for a lovely brunch here. Chilled atmosphere with interesting sewing inspired decor. We got the beef burger which came with a thick fresh patty and was delicious. The chicken burger had too much batter and was not as good. Our friend who got the eggs Benedict felt the hollandaise sauce could be better. I enjoyed my green matcha latte. Would go back to try other things on the menu

First time here after reading a few good reviews and also my last. Ordered the New York bagel comes with fried egg, can’t really go wrong with a simple dish but received crisp burnt egg. Other dish was over cooked. Came from quite a long drive, the only thing I enjoyed was my friend’s company. Even though we were approached by the waitress 3 times asking if we’re ready to order while we were having a conversation, yes it took us a while to order but still shouldn’t make customers feel like they’re rushed. Pretty disappointed.

Awesome space, customers service and coffee with rotating singles. The food here is on another level. So tasty well sized and priced. They source from ethical local suppliers. Must try! Will be back!
And have free doggie treats...
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
Nice relaxed outdoor area. Food arrived literally within 5 mins of ordering it! Coffee was okay. The bircher (small serving size) was very sweet but the coyo helped soften this. Smashed avo only comes with one piece of bread. Don’t split bills. Website menu different to actual menu. PET HATE.

A random drive by, and thought I'll try. Did not disappoint, cafe owner was very friendly, she recommended a brew of their limited time purchase of Panama Geisha single origin beans! Absolutely liquid gold.
Although they missed my food order, they offered me a drink on the house. Good customer service and relaxing vibe.

Great place on busy plenty road with great friendly service. I love the atmosphere which has a sewing theme. The coffee was good and on recommendations went for their almond croissant which did not disappoint. Reasonable prices and definitely a popular place amongst locals. It’s a little gem in Preston.

Good food, good coffee, good service

Waitress was nice, service was quick... no negatives to speak of really

Situated in a great location for locals of Preston

Highly recommended

We had a party of 10 and we're handled exceptionally well. The service was not that fast though but is understandable. The food was really good and reasonably priced my friends loved them. I loved my burger too. Would definitely come back here! Thank you Sartoria!

We love going to Sartoria for their delicious breakfasts (the eggs benedict with pulled pork and smashed avocado are our favourites) and amazing coffee. Make sure you ask for their homemade chilli oil if you have a penchant for spicy food... so good! The staff are all extremely friendly and the baristas are very serious about their beans! The cold drip coffee is also a must-try. Highly recommend.

A good, solid place to go for breakfast, Sartoria have a nice range of beautifully presented dishes. Good coffee too. The potato hash was delicious and very filling. My friend's smashed avo was good but she wasn't keen on the broccolini (might have been better with some crispy kale or broccoli for texture, rather than boiled?). I have been previously and had a black rice porridge dish which was also excellent. I'll be back to try another sweet dish next.

Beautiful place with good friendly service.
Fascinating historical building. Highly recommend for a good meal. You will not be disappointed.

I visited Sartoria just before Christmas with my boyfriend and everything about the place was amazing. The staff were exceptional and the vibe was so pleasant. The decor was beautiful and we felt so at home. I tried corn fritters for my first time and they were delicious!!! My boyfriend had the tumeric latte after the meal and it was divine!! Will definitely be coming back!!

Love this place. Coffee great but it’s the history and tradition of Sartoria that I love. The old Singer sewing machines and the timber finishes so beautiful. Love it.

What a great restaurant!! Had brunch and cocktails here !😊 their bloody mary is incredible and their french toast is to die for 😍 best french toast in Melbourne!! Will be back again.
Came in a few weeks ago, just before Christmas. Their speciality coffee is amazing and they have this wonderful dish called The Carmela. It was such a delicious dish. I 100% recommend this restaurant.

Came in just a few days before Christmas and oh my their speciality coffee was amazing. It was honestly one of the best coffees I have ever had. I 100% recommend to all my friends and family.

Disappointing, I heard good things about this cafe.
Waited to be seated and after about 5 minutes decided to seat ourselves. There was only one waiter on, who was making coffee and serving (granted it was a week day).
I felt sorry for her as she was trying her best but was run off her feet and could not keep up.
I ordered the bagel which was basically inedible. So stale
I could not cut through it with a knife, there was a tiny amount of salmon and cream cheese with a runny egg, pretty much a total failure. I was starving so I ate the salmon and most of the egg. My partner's dish looked good but run of the mill. He said it was nice.
When the manager came to clear our plates she noticed I did not eat the bagel and offered to give me the coffee for free. Which I accepted. Unfortunately it was not the $4 coffee that I had a problem with it was the best part of the experience, it was the $16 bagel that I couldn't eat.
Needless to say I won't be returning. Much prefer my local where the food is interesting and consistently good.
Had a quite poor experience there today. First they mixed up my order. My friend ordered the warm shredded lamb salad and I ordered The Dressmaker (bread pudding) but they brought out The Seamstress (waffle). While they had to remake my dish my friend’s one is sitting there getting cold. They did not offer to keep her plate warm. I felt so bad because she wouldn’t start before I got mine. When the remake finally came I got something completely different to what was written in the menu. There was no salted caramel ice cream nor was there black sesame praline (see photo). Which is basically half of their description for the dish. If you don’t have correct ingredients then an effort should be made to inform the customer while they are placing their order. Then they can make the choice of being ok with it or choosing something else. Which I would have done given I ordered the dish for the ice cream. Was going to say something but felt sorry for my friend who has waited so long already. But I hate how they felt ok with bringing that out after the first mistake and was not apologetic at all. The red velvet hot choc we ordered were nice hence the 1.5 stars otherwise definitely no stars

Absolutely delicious food, the wait staff are very friendly and food came in good time. The outside seating are is a lovely quaint setting. Will defintely be back here.

I was really interested in trying the Red Velvet hot chocolate, it was more like a pink hot chocolate but oh well ;D
and yep. basically a normal hot chocolate (less sweet) that’s bright pink to brighten up the day!
The guac was super fresh and went really well with the thick cut chips. Kale chips are to die for💦
I found the turmeric latte to be a bit overwhelming and it left a dry sensation in my throat.
Spacious interior with amusing tailoring decorations.

I go here a couple times a week. Coffee and food is always great. Love the crispy egg on the New York Brunch bagel and the Butter Bing biscuits are amazing. Staff are all lovely and the seamstress decor is super cute. They're also licensed for your morning Bloody Mary ;)

Charming place with delightful menu and innovative dishes, that are super tasty too.

Staff are lovely and the coffee is great, always.

Such interesting dishes and drinks!

The turmeric latte and the red velvet hot chocolate are super tasty and different. But just standard coffees are good there too

Love the J & C,fresh and charming and beautiful to look at! Like everything on the menu tbh...

Definitely worth the trip, even just to see the amazing converted warehouse and great atmosphere!

One of a kind.

They also have free doggy treats for your pooch!

👌🐶💋

Nice and cool place for a coffee or a special drink. Must-try: golden latte, red velvet hot choc, chai latte. Best dish ever is the seamstress with some smashed avo👍

Popped in for brunch with my little girls. I ordered The Carmella: house made ricotta gnocchi. It’s was delicious. My latte was perfectly smooth. My little girls had the kids beef burgers, they loved them.

Very friendly staff. I loved the space and the history behind. A great kids friendly cafe with a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Highly recommended!

On a recent trip to Melbourne, I came across this little gem. My friends and I enjoyed a delicious brunch, I personally recommend the dish J&C, and their specialty coffee definitely hit the spot. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the cafe had a lovely vibe. I highly recommend this place to all, and will definitely return the next time I'm in Melbourne! :)

Best speciality coffee in Melbourne. The espresso was perfect. Haven't tried the food yet, but it's great that they have vegan and gluten-free options. The staff is very nice and friendly. Can definitely recommend! 👍🏻

Dropped in here for a late lunch. I fell in love with the decor instantly. The staff were lovely and attentive. The menu has lots to choose from so you're bound to find more than one thing you'll love.

I had the Singer which is a veggie burger with a matcha bun...I have 'matcha' love for this dish and will be back.

My sister had the Spindle which is a super salad- I had some and it's super indeed.

I'll be back!!!!
My coffee was dumped in front of me and the waiter was gone before I could order my breakfast.
I was the only person in the cafe and couldn't get anyone's attention to get a 2nd coffee.
The $12 "homemade" & "organic" crumpets tasted uncannily like supermarket crumpets.
Would NEVER come back.

Nice venue, decor gives a nod to Preston's rag trade past. Had simple breakfast - bacon & eggs. Generous enough serve, eggs were perfectly poached, but bacon was a little greasy for my taste. Coffee very good. Prompt service.

Disappointed. Popped in for a late brekky but the two menu items that appealed to me were "sold out". Not the first time it's happened. I guess early brekky visits on the weekend would be the way to go in the future.

Been a regular next door many times and thought it's time to try something new.
Love the theme...

I walked in waited to be seated as requested no one noticed so I sat down at the communal table as I always do when solo.

Still no one noticed

After 10 mins I went to the barista and asked for a strong cap with their speciality blend Evolve.

Barista brought my coffee as he turned to leave I asked for a menu ??

Obv he should have asked me.

Then it all fell into place
Don't get me wrong I was more than happy to chill read the papers and watch the world go by
because I had the time 4 once.

Coffee perfect btw

I ordered the Haloumi with lime sounded interesting with poached eggs.
Could not have been better
Loved it

The appropriate service now was in full swing offered a second coffee
How could I say no

Apart from the initial stuff great job guys.

How good does that look btw..

And the cooked lime which I squeezed over the Haloumi...wow...awsum.

I've been meaning to come here for a while! Stopped by mid-afternoon on a weekend and there was space for myself and my guest without a booking. We were served and looked after quickly and repeatedly checked on during our time there without it being annoying or over the top. I had the spindle and opted to have a poached egg with it which was lovely. My guest had the seamstress and absolutely devoured it. Neither of us had anything left on our plates. This place is a winner and I'll definitely be back to try more on the menu!

Had Sunday brunch, it was very busy with lots of young families and food came out reasonably fast. Homemade crumpets were ok but the gnocchi was fresh and tasty. Loved the tumeric latte.
Went there yesterday for brunch abc it was my first time. After travelling on 2 trains to get there I was expecting big things, this was recommended by a friend.

As soon as we got there, we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who took care of a table for us. Note- no bookings on weekends.

It was a busy place but very quaint and great atmosphere! Coffee was nice except my golden latte was very strong, I couldn't finish it. The food took a while to get to us but we had good company so didn't mind waiting. Our waitress was very nice. The food was lovely especially for 2 vegetarians at the table. I ordered the seamstress meal which I think I ate with one breath! It was delicious. Would highly recommend it.

A riddle to go with your coffee – what do you get when you combine an old dress shop, a family affair, and Preston’s love for a morning mimosa? Sartoria. The equation adds up; I promise. Adriana Agricola’s mother owned a dressmaking, bridal and evening wear business for twenty years, just a block off High Street.

Breakfast menu was fantastic, and the food was even better, home made crumpets, yummy. Best hot chocolate and banana cake for miles. Service was good.

Went in to be "signalled" by a lady to grab a seat inside. Tried to order coffees with her and ask her to sit somewhere else as it was so noisy I couldn't hear myself talk, but she instead had a chat with the table next to us and ignored us completely. Then we moved outside, and waited 15 minutes and no one came so we left. Very disappointing. Won't be coming back.

To me places like this are Melbourne. A cool old building that's been spruced up, but tips it's hat at the heritage of the place. We have been here a few times. The single O coffee is 5 stars. The standard coffee is also good but a little inconsistent. Service is always great in my book. The ambience is very cool, but if you go when it's empty you feel like you're being treated like a king. The menu has plenty to offer, however I find that it's all show and no go. The eggs benny was blah and also the sour dough toasty I had was dried out and ordinary. Don't get me wrong, the foods not bad or anywhere near it..... it's just not that great either. For me I can take it or leave it. Especially since it's nowhere on the cheap side. 7 bucks for a tiny bowl of chips is extortion in my book. The mini cinnamon scrolls on the other hand are dead set awesome when they come warmed up with a coffee and something you have to try!!

Best coffee in Preston, it's so smooth! Really interesting food, my favourite for breakfast is the Seamstress with the potato waffle and peas 👌🏻 seriously good

Went for breakfast Sunday morning. Reasonably busy but not overcrowded. Coffees excellent. Food was tasty. Low-ish review caused by our order not being put through to the kitchen. No one came to check on us or even notice we were sitting for nearly an hour with only our empty coffee glasses. That being said, when we finally got someone's attention, it was apologised for, our meal order re-taken and subsequently comped.

Terrible brunch experience. Would not return! We were given an outside table to wait until an inside table became available, estimated wait 5-10 minutes. 30 minutes later still no inside table (a problem in winter as no outside heaters despite large seating area). The wait on coffees was 20+ minutes. Our waiter was friendly and responsive but he couldn't do anything to actually improve our experience given the chaos inside. We eventually ordered from outside, and were moved inside 45 minutes after we'd arrived. No sign of our food an hour after ordered. We asked the staff who told us our order had been lost - even if we'd stayed outside, our order wasn't in the system. 1.5 hours after ordering, our meals arrived (3 meals). Nice food but not worth the wait and negative experience - there are so many places in Preston that do food as good as this. Portions are small. We were given our coffees for free but that didn't make up at all for the ridiculous wait time outside in the cold, the uncomfortable chairs and overall highly unsatisfactory experience. The place was super busy but if you are going to run a restaurant with such a large capacity you need to be able to get this stuff right! Our waiter was super lovely but again, he couldn't actually fix the situation for us. Ignore the negative reviews at your own peril...

Cute little place that is so much roomier than it looks from the front. Really quick service too! Poached eggs were literally boiled eggs instead because they were so over cooked, but other than that it was quite good! I got a quite unique dish that you could tell had a lot of thought go into it. Hash brown waffle, goats curd, charred onion (that was just raw instead) and mash peas.

Came again. Disappointed again. Over priced trendy cafe, too much vanity not enough heart.
$19 for the burger in the pic - disappointed portion size. Though the cauliflower soup was to die for. Staff inconsistent, a couple were awesome others seriously lack lustre

Haven't tried food here yet however tried soy latte and golden lattes in two different occasions . Both were great , liked the golden latte more 😊 good service and friendly staff !

I visited last year and remember really liking this place so I suggested it for today's brunch. And wow! I ordered the seamstress and it was outstanding! The crunchy and flavoursome hash brown waffle has to be the best I've had. My friend ordered the gnocchi and it was nothing short of amazing - there was so much flavoured packed into the pumpkin purée it was crazy. So so good.

This cafe has a great fit out and wonderful atmosphere reflecting Preston's rag trade past. The word Sartoria in Italian translates to Tailor or a dressmaker's premises. Nice coffee, ordered something plain as late lunch and homemade crumpets were calling and were delicious. Next time will order a more substantial meal.

Such a lovely space, very cool vibes happening and particularly a fan of the brunch cocktails we had with our delicious meals. Staff were friendly and really efficient service as well:)

I ordered the benedict and when it came back, it was literally just bread, egg, spinach, a whole load of bacon and a weird bowl of chunky hollandaise sauce. When I asked where my fried polenta was, the waiter said I didn't ask for it when it was clearly on the menu, making it seem like it was my fault. He came back from the kitchen and said that the fried polenta had run out with a half assed apology. This should have been communicated to me beforehand as I would've ordered another dish if I knew.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here on Mothers Day. They were very busy but gave very good service and the meals were well presented and delicious. I had the beef brisket which was a little fatty and short on the green papaya salad for which I had chosen the dish, but tasty nonetheless. No red wine available even though it was on the menu.
We all loved the decor and the play on words in the menu highlighting the cafe's past life.
Coffee was good too.

Cute seamstress themed cafe that has been a personal hit. Interiors are well kept to its history, and the chai and matcha latte were on point. The menu is a bit limited, and the eggs benedict was a bit oily and did not sit well personally. However, the other occasions prompted a much nicer outcome. Chilled vibes with good music, and you can hear the person you're talking to! Family friendly and good service. Winning!
