Everything I've eaten here is consistent and done well. It has become a regular I've tried most things on the menu and the spicy wok is perfect for two people. Dumplings are tasty and the soup is good. I particularly like the potato pickles in the soup. Very yummy
The food is amazing. I’m a Sichuan girl and love my chilli. This place makes me feel like I am eating food from my hometown. I always order more so I can have some leftovers for the next day.
My Aussie hubby loves it too.
Def recommend this place. There’s a dish for every palette.
Delicious and authentic dumplings! I’ve tried many places though always come back to Miss Zhao’s because the dumplings never disappoint. Never tried noddle or soup dishes so can’t comment on those. They’ve recently added sauces and water to the table which makes the experience all the more pleasant!

Mum was the one that told me about this joint whilst we were discussing mala flavoured foods (type of chilli flavour mostly found at hotpot joints). We came on a Saturday for lunch and although it was quiet when we walked in, the restaurant filled up quickly. We ordered a spicy wok with vegetable, chitterlings and quail eggs as well as a serve of fried dumplings and xiao long bao. The xiao long bao was super juicy and the filling was fluffy. The dumplings were good but nothing spectacular. I really liked the spicy wok! I went for mild as it’s always better to play it safe than hero it and die later on. It was full of dry spices but the right amount of kick and not too oily. They have a wide selection of ingredients to choose from, each with prices next to them and you just have to meet a minimum of $15. They also do a soup base which I intend to try next time. I’ve read reviews regarding the service but the girls were all really sweet and accommodating. Lunch for three was only $33 including a drink. I highly recommend and will definitely be back.
Tried the boiled dumplings and soup dumplings 小龙包). They were all very tasty. No need to run into the city to satisfy your craving for dumplings. Looking forward to try the other dishes.

Always loved this place, although the spicy wok is very popular I usually order the noodle soups, like the slightly chewy texture of the noodles. Has the spicy lamb this time, not as good as the beef brisket and pork belly (a little oiler) but still very good.
Ordered the steamed cabbage and pork dumplings, xiao long bao and the chicken potato soup noodle.
The steamed dumplings were delicious and you could tell they were home/restaurant made . Xiao long baos were tasty and strong on the ginger - which I loved, they were also $7 for 6, what a bargain! The chicken potato noodle was nice but nothing great. Would definitely be back for more dumplings!
Always had this via ubereats. Peered through the window at the restaurant which looks clean and fine.... My go to for dumplings. Xiao long bao are yummy.
Visited this place last night with my wife. Fulfilled my needs for Dumplings! I can say this place have one of thr best dumplings in Preston! They are so busy! Will be back again.
Yum yum. Need to have soy and chilli oil on the tables. Food is very tasty though. Pics is of pork and garlic chives dumplings and mao cai style with chicken, sliced lamb, fish cakes and mixed veggies.
Decent spicy wok dishes. Dumplings were ok. if you are into spicy food, this place is a good place to visit if you're in the area.

Wonton Soup for lunch, very generous serve for $10 approx. The flavours were all there in the broth. It was a great winter warmer.

Love the dumplings here, I've been twice now and had xiao long bao and sheng jian bao. Soooo good. I just wish they had some green veges on the menu to order. Would be great to be able to order a side of veges. Do recommend their dumplings
Our family have been here several times and we have never disappointed. The dumplings were so good. The kids love the fried dumpling. The price is reasonable. This place is our number one choice for Chinese food in Preston
Cosy little place. The pan fried pork buns are awesome. Each bun is quite juicy. It is very close to a traditional shanghaiese pork bun.
The other dish we ordered is quite spicy, but very tasty. The menu uploaded on zomato has been updated, so I can't remember the name of the dish, basically you just choose your ingredients and they make it into a bowel.

Quality food in a clean and friendly atmosphere. A little pricey but worth it. Pork belly was excellent and I'll definitely go back. A place you'd be comfortable to take guests.

Came here late one afternoon to have lunch. They sell a range of rice and noddles dishes and some are only $8.80. The do the Chinese spicy stir fry woks where you pick your own ingredients and they fry it up for u. The downside at Miss Zhou is that there is a minimum of $15 if you want to have the spicy wok. The flavours were good and the prawn fried rice had that wok taste that makes fried rice taste good. Will definitely come back to try a few of their other noodle and rice dishes.
I can come here to eat everyday.

Very good little place, excellent for a quick feed and cheap! Generous portions. Had 2 types of dumplings, 1 set with pork and the second set with chicken and prawn (around about 25 pieces in total between the two plates) and fried rice with prawns. With a couple of tea drinks for around 35$ in total! Perfect for 2 hungry friends.

My friends and I were looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, and we just happened to walk past Miss Zhou's and noticed that they were still open. Despite being 30 minutes away from closing time, we were welcomed in with a smile and weren't rush to order at all. Customers who walked in after us, almost 10 minutes to closing fine, received the same friendly service.
We were starving and proceeded to order a number of dishes to share. The xiao long bao arrived first and we dug in. Soft smooth skin, hearty and warming broth, and big chunks of meat - this was a winner. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pan-fried pork dumplings, and garlic chives and pork dumplings. The former had beautifully thin and crisped skin, while the latter had the same gorgeous thin and silky skin enveloping the meaty goodness inside.
We also ordered the fried rice with Chinese sausage. Nothing especially spectacular about the taste or flavour of this dish, but it was definitely cooked well. I have seen rice fried to the point of resembling a wet clump or burnt to a dry mess, but this was a textbook fried rice, albeit lacking in seasoning.
Last dish was the combination hot and spicy wok. As my partner can't tolerate spicy food, the waitress graciously arranged for the spice level to be mild and provided extra chilli paste for the spice lovers to up the ante themselves. Thumbs up for the considerate gesture! The hot and spicy wok was generously filled with a variety of ingredients - crab sticks, prawns, cuttlefish, beef intestines of all sorts, assorted veggies and some more which I can't recall. It was stir-fried with Sichuan peppercorn, and it was a dish that was definitely not lacking in flavour nor pungency.
What a satisfying and delicious meal. I'm glad we discovered this Sichuan gem, and not be restricted to pho, roast meats or dumplings anymore whenever I'm at Preston.
Watch out for these authentic Shanghainese delicacies ......
This NKOTB is small in stature but packed with punches, two A3 pages of classic Shanghai good stuff on it complemented by a small section but adequate drink list, not a bad Pinot Grigio for $6/glass.
I had their Ramen Noodles with Beef Brisket for lunch, cut meats were a little tough, nothing wrong with it but that was a full-on tasty broth, noodles were cooked perfectly. too
A lot of other goodies, but time was too short and dining alone doesn't help, so it will be next time.
Another great find in the food jungle of High St, Preston, they are so new, that it's not even listed in the world of Instagram, how can that be?

Being a Shengjian Mantou connoisseur, when my friend told me about a new Shanghainese restaurant that just opened in Preston, I immediately jumped at the chance to try it out. I selfishly held off on reviewing , so I can go a few more times and enjoy this place quietly before it becomes too popular and crowded.
Environment:
Typical Chinese casual restaurant with around 9 tables. Try to get the tables along the wall, as the 2-people tables in the middle of the restaurant seem small and uncomfortable.
This restaurant only recently opened, and seems to only employ 1 waitress. The waitress is quite friendly and attentive, but when the restaurant gets busy, you simply have to wait.
Food: I have tried several dishes on the menu
2. Shengjian (3/5): filling tastes good, plenty of soup. Unfortunately this fails in the skin texture department. The dough had too much rise, and doesn't feel the same as a traditional shanghainese shengjian (eg. yang's).
When I ordered this dish, after a long wait, the waitress actually told me the kitchen threw out my dish because they felt they overcooked the buns. I thought, what a waste, and asked the kitchen to bring me the burnt buns, I'll eat it if it is free and still eat the new batch. Turns out they already threw it in the rubbish bin, and they showed me to prove it. This is the first time I've seen perfectionists in the kitchen from a casual chinese restaurant - respect.
3. Xiao Long Bao (4/5): Tastes and looks to be freshly made - not steamed from a factory frozen packet. Many other places over do it in the soup department, I think the balance here is good. I'd have no qualms about having these over Din Tai Fung/Hutong/Nanxiang.

4. Guotie (5/5): WOW!!!!! This is simply the best pan fried pork dumplings in Melbourne, and possibly Sydney. The shape might not look like the traditional guotie you get in shanghai, but I love the filling. I suspect they just used the same filling as the xiao long bao, thus giving it ample soup as well. The skin is extra crispy both on the bottom and on the lighter top side. Must get a serving of 2 of this if you come here.

5. Wonton Soup (3/5): Average tasting, to elevate it to the ones you get in Shanghai, the broth needs a bit more work.
22. Cold Noodle with croaker (3/5): Average, warning to non-chinese people though, croakers typically has alot of tiny bones, so if you don't like spitting out bones as you eat, don't order croaker dishes here. Shanghainese people love these river fish though.
24. Red braised pork noodles soup (4/5): Great tasting hong shao rou, broth is a let down again. If they used a pork bone based broth like japanese ramen shops this dish would be a 5/5.
42. Spring rolls (3/5). Tastes good, nothing special to say about this dish.
Most authentic Shanghai cuisine in the whole area or perhaps in Melbourne so far. With the price taken into account it is very good value. The cheff is also Miss Zhou herself, wonderful person and very friendly with customers.
Many of the dishes such as pastry related items and domain are all home made and often sold out.
Since open, almost been visiting the place religiously to try out all the items on the menu.
Nice food, must try the dumpling and Shanghai stir-fry noodle. 1week come couple times to try the new dish. Not recommend the lamb dish, because for me is to strong smell.
Damn they good. Pork and chive dumplings taste homemade with that fresh taste from the chives and fatty pork mince. Prob best I’ve had in ages. Juicy pork buns are also excellent and the hot pot. I’ll be coming back. Yeeew
Located opposite Preston Market on High Street and next to Bendigo bank, this Chinese restaurant offers a la carte dishes as well as a section for hot pot.
Their menu includes dumplings, spicy lamb, pork belly, braised beef brisket, fried rice, steam pork buns, and various noodle dishes.
There's parking available on the main road, and around the corner.
Hands down my favourite Shanghai dumpling restaurant! This place does some of the best Sheng Jian bao and pork dumplings I’ve tried in Melbourne - the filling is super juicy with so much soup, even until the next day!
They also sometimes have savoury and sweet mooncakes stocked in their freezer - I’d definitely recommend getting yourself some if they’re available! You can bake them in the oven at home and they are super delicious, with a flakey crispy shortbread style pastry.

A place for your chinese hotpot craving in the burbs. I had the soup one and it was good - it had all the flavours that it supposed to be but maybe just less umami. Well priced.
Love the pork dumplings! They are juicy and full of flavour. So delicious. I don't even need to add sauce. The fried rice is also very good. Not too salty or oily. Just nice.
I come here regularly, the spicy wok is yum, I have the dry version with fish usually, but I've tried them all and they are all delicious. I add fried slice rice cake and whatever else I'm feeling like. I share this with my partner (as it easily feeds 2) while my kids eat dumplings or fried rice.
The dumplings are yummy. And the kids love the fried rice.
A quick note menu has changed during pandemic, no set menu or soups anymore, you choose your own ingredients for spicy wok and dumplings are now back on the menu.
We ordered the Mao Cai Style with mushrooms and noodles. It's $16 but it's big enough for 2 people. The chilli broth is really tasty. It was spicy but really good and you can't stop eating it. So good 🤤 Service was quick too. Would recommend especially if you like spicy food 👌

This place has set the bar for dumpling restaurants for me. All the wait staff are so polite, which took me by surprise because service is normally neglected at cheap Chinese restaurants. Then the dumplings, oh my goodness! The casing wasn't too chewy, the meat didn't fall apart, just amazing. Definitely will be coming back.
