Review Kurtosh Randwick - Randwick

Andreea Amarinei
They have tasty cakes and croissants. This is the raspberry croissant and the raspberry cheesecake. Had their kurtosh before and they're really nice. Cakes a bit on the pricier side at $6.5 per 100g. Haven't been here in a while due to having some bad experiences last year but everyone was really nice this time

Love kurtosh been coming back here for their wide range of delicious cake slabs. But the other day was the first time having their signature chimney cake! Crispy caramelised flaky outer layer, with soft inner walls, soft tender pull that falls apart with ease. That day we watched the process of how it was made from the kneading of the dough to the torching of the sugar and coating of hazelnut. The dough effortlessly coils around the rolling pin ready to be baked to sweet golden goodness. It’s hard not walk past and get a whiff of the sweet pastry smell. The staff were so friendly and accomodating, prompt service and very clean with with their processes. My personal opinion is to get a cinnamon scroll with Nutella middle, the perfect sweetness. However if you have a severe sweet tooth go for the loaded toppings with the choice of hazelnut and pistachio with the Nutella centre just be mindful that there is an extra layer of caramelisation to keep the topping on. My go to cake slab is always a cheesecake and this raspberry cheesecake was just divine! Sweet however tinge of tartness and sourness from the raspberry creates the perfect balance ! If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth they have some savoury pastries to!

What a nice chill cafe for a hot drink and cake. Stopped here as I was early for a movie and really like that they’re open late (close at 10). Really convenient if you want to have a hot drink late instead of a bar. They’ve got a nice selection of cakes too and the atmosphere is chill.

First saw kurtosh or chimney cakes in the markets of Budapest & Prague years ago and was fascinated by them. Tried the nutella kurtosh here for the first time and it was divine. Crispy and flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. Just wanted to add that the girl who made our kurtosh was friendly and warm. Thank you! Brings back great memories of Europe. 😊

Amazing place for some sweets and coffee. The cakes are delicious and the staff is friendly. Highly recommended this cafe to everyone

We visit this place time to time and the experience has been alright. But today we went to bought a piece of apricot tea cake as my pregnant wife was craving for some sweets and by the time we got home (20 min drive), we noticed the cake has got moulds on it.

One of the best desserts in Sydney. They have amazing ambience which feels very homely. Their hot chocolate, tiramisu and red Velvet cake is incredible. If you haven't tried Kurtosh yet, you are missing out!

If you are ever feeling nostalgic for traditional European pastries and cakes, Kürtósh will transport you to an old town medieval city with its tasty treats. Kürtósh is especially famous for their Chimney Cakes which are all handmade in front of you and take about ten minutes to make. They also have a variety of slab cakes which they sell per piece and are priced by weight. You can also get hot beverages to go.

My partner has been trying to get me to go to Kurtosh for a good six months. I was never keen as I’ve had a lot of baked goods in my day, but one day we found ourselves at Kurtosh after we travelled to Albee’s Kitchen only to find it closed. Kurtosh’s slab cakes are cut from the slab and sold by weight, which is handy because it means you can get a few small pieces of different cakes to try at any time. These were reasonably good but not memorable enough for me to even remember what they were. I think the white one was tiramisu.

The most amazing unique and delicious desserts available. Very convenient location with indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff.

Had the lime and ginger meringue cake. It's interesting that they price it by weight but it does make a lot of sense it's just awkward trying to explain how much you want 😂 the kurtosh is good and really nice when it comes out fresh! We got the pistachio which adds a crunch to contrast with the soft inside!

Love their tea cakes! The orange blueberry, walnut cinnamon and flourless chocolate cake. Also their brandy balls!!

The Hungarian chimney cakes are great when eaten fresh, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside.

It's nice to see someone filling in the niche for Hungarian pastry and doing it so well at that! As a cafe Kurtosh definitely holds up with an irresistiblly warm aesthetic and great food. Amazingly, they charge for most of their baked goods by weight so you're always getting a fair deal.

Their speciality, the Kurtosh, is a sweet pastry baked to provide a hard exterior but retain a soft and pillowy interior. For $7-10 the pastries are quite decent and despite not being a huge fan of cinnamon, I quite enjoyed mine. Great to see them being different and sticking to it and would love to check out a few of the other flavours!

Cinnamon funnel cake is the bomb! Keep you comming back for more thats for sure! Nice cosy place for those cold winter nights great place for a catch up over coffee. A nice variety of cake and funnel cakes. I will be back!

We walked into this place after an amazing dinner at thai-riffic next door to this cafe. I was very excited to try this cafe as the reviews were exceptional. The concept of cake/slice by the gram is great! I walked out with about 500g of various cakes all of which were exceptional. The staff were very friendly and engaging. All I can say is this concept should be rolled out Australia wide. Highly recommended. Thank you for a great experience.

The funnel cake was heavenly. I’m a sucker for cinnamon and sugar so this really hit the spot. My sister ordered another flavour, I forgot what it was but she also loved hers. They are also made fresh when you order.

Everyone was really welcoming and polite. I would definitely go back to try more treats from Kürtosh when I visit Sydney again.
Roxy
Nice vibe, cute decor. It can get quite busy but you can take away too. The food is good and consistent. If you have a serious nut allergy though, be warned, they are everywhere. High risk of cross contamination. There are practices that could better minimise this risk. The traditional pastry is delicious and quite large, perfect for sharing.
Hayley
The cafe had a nice vibe and staff were friendly. I got the classic Kurtosh as this was my first one.

Crispy on the outside and soft inside, this is the ultimate snack! It was quite filling to be consumed after lunch - definitely keen to try other flavours next time.

Tried few of the brownies they were ok. I am not much of a fan for sweet treats. Friend told me about this place but i actually missed buying the kurtosh itself which is the specialty. Got few seats inside and outside. Some pastry as well.
Michelleliem2017
Kurtosh is one of my all time favorite bakery. I love their Nutella kurtosh bread. It was so fresh, crispy with just the right amount of nutella filling, therefore the sweetness was not too overpowering. Today i waited around 10 minutes for my kurtosh to be made. So yummy to eat it while its pipping hot and fresh out of their cool little oven. Their little chocolate brandy balls was a nice litte treat too...

Been here several times already. This place is worth a visit if you are looking for some bakes. Yesterday I got my all time fave brownies cheesecake ($6) and chocolate twist ($4) which I recommend you guys to try💕
Ninetyeight
A cute bakery featuring a wide range of sweet treats! We had the baked berry cheesecake and the passionfruit/macadamia/honey mousse. The cheescake was nice and dense and paired well with the light and fluffy mousse. Both cakes were very flavourful and worth the ~$5 each 😊

3.5/5
The desserts were generally nice - I highly recommend the rhubarb crumble. I also like the pay by weight system so that you can choose your serving size. I’ve been here twice now and I’ve found the service hit or miss - the first time the girl who served us was lovely and friendly, but the second time they were a lot less accommodating and more impatient.

Best pastry in town! Very nice ambiance, good coffee and chai latte. A range of cakes available. Strawberry cake, beetroot cherry cake and apricot cake are a must try!
Lollieats
Awesome cafe with amazing coffee. Not much to eat but it’s a great spot to go and enjoy some cake and coffee. The actual Kurtosh Pastry is a
Must !! Lots of different flavours to choose from and absolutely delicious 😋
Richieroberts87
I've just been for the first time last week, only bought some bread and some of the delicious spinach and feta pastry rolls which I've been back for a few times since. Good stuff 👌
Gugu_Chailatte
Cakes are really yummy and I loved the concept of paying by weight, which means I can try tiny bits of different cakes without having to finish big portions. But one might still end up ordering too much because there are so many flavors to try! I really liked the beetroot and sour cherry cake. Love the stonewares which they are served on too.

The specialty of the shop, the Kurtosh, is by comparison médiocre and overly sweet for my taste. We ordered the cinnamon one covered with dust of sugar. It is best to eat while it's warm and the outside is crispy. It just tastes like a different sort of doughnut for me.

Will visit again for the cakes but probably not for the Kurtosh.
Favourite Flavors
Warm and comfortable place for a morning coffee or a casual hangout with friends in the night. Beautiful vintage decoration gives a unique style to the place. The staff is friendly. Kürtosh usually welcomes you with a nice smell of recently baked sweet pastries. My personal favourite thing to order is the Nutella Kürtosh chimney cake. However the waiting time could be improved and I do not feel the price of the cakes is reasonable and fair to the quantity you get.
C L A R I S S A ✨☺️
Yummy! Very chill and warm atmosphere, everything was great and the coffee was good! I had the famous Kürtosh and it was so good! Employees were very friendly 🙂☺️💗
The Engineer Eats
Such an awesome idea! Cake purchased by weight so you can get smaller slices of different varieties of cake and still fit everything in! We had the Strawberry Sponge, Coconut Mousse, Salted Caramel and Tiramisu! Yum 😋
They also sell the signature Kurtosh, a Hungarian pastry also known as Chimney Cake with a caramelised crispy flaky outer and soft inner walls!
The Hand That Bites
I went with a friend and we both thought the cakes were nice. I especially liked the peanut butter and ganash cake. The coffee was better than I expected and the service was friendly too. I also really liked the stoneware they use. Kürtosh had a very vintage feel to it.
Samantha Loy
ordered the nutella kurtosh and a mocha for an afternoon tea. The kurtosh was really good! with a generous serving of nutella, the outer part was crunchy while not being too sweet😍 would definitely go for a second visit.
Liz
Love the concept of paying for cake by weight. Finally a monetarily challenged student like me can try as many cakes as she wants!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cooksie

Ellylovestoeat
Really good range of cakes and desserts. Got lucky when we arrived as there was no que but as we sat down to eat our meal it was coming out the door almost. Very popular place and I can see why . Ordered the cinnamon Kürtosh and it was soooo yummy . Come check it out
Leon
Simply one of the best places for cakes and desserts. I got my chocolate cake and hazelnut truffle from the Randwick outlet this afternoon. Yum yum.
Faris
Wide range of sweet delicacies apart from the chimney cakes. Spaces are quite limited but still a great place to hang out and having some chats over coffee. Chocolate lover should try their lovely and rich iced chocolate!
Littletan
It cures me with the sweet treats. 😊 Love the idea that you can buy cakes by weights so you can try several different varieties (sorry for the waiter though). I think it is the best baked cheesecake I ever had while my Mr. said the Tiramisu was the best he has had.
Fat & The Furious
Kürtosh is a Hungarian love letter dedicated to all things baked, covered in cinnamon and powdered sugar.

I've been to about every other location throughout Sydney apart from the O.G. one in Randwick and lemme tell u now the experience is universal.

The cakes are sold by the gram with staff suggesting generous portions and with good reason - it's addictive. Theres also a selection of savoury pastries and they serve up a damn good coffee to wash it all down to make room for more.

Do your tastebuds a favour and give any of their locations a visit sometime soon and pick yourself up a gram or 500.

My favourite cafe in The Spot - open early til late, wonderful & friendly staff, the best coffee & tasty cakes. My personal fav is the Babka, a perfect thing to take to someone's house.

Believe it or not, this is the second time I walked into this cafe. The first time I came, I left without eating anything. Probably because it was raining and it was dark in the cafe. I worried that the pastries did not look as glamorous as I expected.

I just moved into the neighbourhood, so did not know what to expect around here. This cafe showed up every time I search and it had high rating. So I decide to give it another try. This morning, with the bright Sydney sunshine, I entered this shop again. It was still quite dark. But this time I could see better.

They are hidden gems! Had the chocolate trait and flat white. Excellent. Crispy, not super sweet, just right. Great. Will come again over and over again if they would not be tied of me-:).

Cinnamon Kurtosh is a must. I requested extra cinnamon sugar & the staff happily obliged. I would also recommend the chocolate flourless cake which was lovely gooey texture. Lovely friendly staff. Would happily return

While walking the streets of randwick I was lured into Kurtosh from the beautiful smell. I had ordered a Kurtosh and a coffee and was lucky to find a seat as it was a busy place. After tasting the nice pastry and coffee I have to admit I too fell in love with the place. The ambiance, staff, food and coffee were all just great - I will definitely will be back.

Kurtosh is a cool little cafe on Randwick the spot. It's vintage in decor and 'modern vintage coffee appliances'. They sell a range of cakes which you can buy a whole slab or just your choice of weight (per grams). By far the tastiest one is the cinnamon tea cake.

I also really enjoy the iced coffee there which isn't full of ice cream, rather, actually iced coffee with flavour.

This time I ordered the Kurtosh Itself to share with my friends. You can pick the flavour - I got the coconut one. There is so cinnamon, almond and more. The only thing is be prepared to watch them make it for ten minutes. Interesting to watch and at least you know it's fresh. I'm not sure of the flavours as it was a bit like Licorice. Nice and crunchy, warm and with a covering of coconut.

I love Kurtosh! I once had a homeless man tell me that he walked past every day and smelled the baked goods. I offered to buy him something and he was so ecstatic to finally have the tiramisu! I have to agree - the tiramisu is delicious. I have a particular soft spot however for the truffle balls. I don't know what it is about them but they're delicious. Coffee and mochas there are lovely too. However - it's crowded in there and gets insanely busy so be prepared to either get take away or wait and fight for a seat.
Lunch Pie
I love this place! It's heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth! Epic selection of desserts on offer. What's great is you can stipulate how much of each you want to buy as there is no fixed portion size ie. Customer chooses portion size. Opted for peanut butter ganache and flourless chocolate cake. Perfection on a plate! Coffee is fantastic here as well. Lovely decor. Warm, dimly lit and very inviting & cosy. Friendly staff as well
Jenny
Was so gooooood! Would definitely recommend, as you can choose how much cake you want and they will slice it for you. The Kurtosh bread sticks were really nice too! Although, the price is quite inflated if you think about it..
My favourite was the carrot cake! :)
Monica
This place was so good we had to return the next week for a sugar kick. The fudge cookie melts in your mouth like brownie batter. Best part is it's really nice to your wallet and everything is costed by weight. Need more dessert places like this!

One of four locations around Sydney's central suburbs, Kurtosh goes on to make an eclectic setting and experience that is worth travelling to town to try. It is part-coffee shop, part-bakery, and full-on social hub which is what made it so perfect to fit in with how I came to here.

It was in between some hectic hours sandwiched from having the celebratory lunch for her engagement, and the party that night to commemorate it. Cramming into an already hectic schedule, two items off the checklist managed to be crossed off simultaneously: first was meeting my old friend from all the way back in middle school, and second was my dining buddy and I finding a new place to have coffee.

After a bit of hullabaloo, toing and froing to arrange a place to meet with my old friend going here was going to work out for a number of reasons. It was close by where he lives, my big sister had some people see needed to see, and it was also nearby my sister-in-law's apartment, so my dining buddy naturally was able to duck out quickly for a quick coffee. For this brief stop-over, a few things were possible from the hectic chaos: this place turned out to be really good, I got to meet up with my friend, everybody enjoyed themselves and, well, it turned out to be a fantastic find.

One of the major aspects is how both the service and aesthetic are laid back. No one seems to be in any sort of rush, either with the staff nor with the customers. This is needed, as each on of their signature items takes about 10 or so minutes to bake and they are made to be eaten piece by piece over a long break. It also makes a mutual friendly atmosphere. The structure of service is basically, go up and order your items, pay and take a number. They find you, and you enjoy. Simple.

What also helps is the design, or maybe the lack thereof. Stripping the shop area bare, there is heaps of exposed bricks and natural lighting giving it an ironically distinct felling and look in forgoing that avenue. The layout of the store is quite good with fusing two rooms together - an entrance room where all the sweets are dispalyed as well as the counter to order, and the side room where the tables are (making it not seem cramped in being a small place) and the coffee machine is off into the corner. The ergonomics are something I don't often comment on, but this time I have to give credit that is normally not even considered.

They kept it simple and straightforward with what they serve. First, there is the titular food - kurtosh, which will be described a bit later - then several varieties of loaves and pastries, cakes by the weight (which can additionally be arranged and decorated for special occasions), along with some tea and coffee to enjoy on the side. Just looking at all the choices in the cabinets, it gets the feeling of being back as a kid in a candy store - now a more grown-up kid who can appreciate different flavours. There is something more charming when a place tries less to please everybody, and more attempts to get its own identity into fruition. For that, this is one of the finest places that I have been to in memory and I wish more places existed as such back home.

The first order of business concerned coffee. Kurtosh makes the coffee from Mecca beans, which I have had before up in Brisbane. Not being a Sydney-sider, I don't feel I have so much authority to compare and contrast it other beans or more so that it is not as extensive as some others. Anyways, the way they made it was fantastic - the texture was perfect with no remnants on the bottom, the bean's notes were a combination of syrup and berry and it was strong. This meant an A-grade extraction and cup of coffee.

What really settled the decision to choose here of all places was that it was something slightly distinctive from the range of coffee houses around the suburb, mostly due to seeing pictures online from the sweets that they offered. Or, that was, a certain sweet in particular. The namesake of this place comes from a Hungarian pastry called "Kürtőskalác" or a chimney cake - since it is shaped like a chimney. These are something to be seen, and of course eaten (heck, just let all five senses participate). The pastry is rolled and freshly made, followed up by being wrapped around a rolling pin to make a continuous ribbon before getting cooked in the oven. Then it is rolled in the decorations of choice, making one of the tastiest sweet snacks around. There was no way that this visit was going without one of those. What happened with trying to get a half-half order ended up with two lots of it. One variety was a pistachio and the other was caramelised hazelnut. More means more to share, so look at it that way.

In some ways it is straightforward to describe how a kurtosh is regarding tastes and whatnot, but in others it is perhaps a little tricky since it is only subtly unique - it is definitely a must try for all foodies, and cements itself on the bucket list for those with sweet tooths. The texture is mostly like a croissant on the outside, and a like something really soft on the inside. Wrapping it through all the cinnamon sugar, nuts and what not, the flavour will change depending on the selection. Both of them were fantastic, and the flavour was generally nutty on both; even with the caramlisation, the hazelnut one was not so sweet which is a change of pace from mostly pastries nowadays. Pipping hot, the way to go is to rip bits off at a time and enjoy them. If you can handle one by yourself, by all means however, these are meant to be shared in the middle of a table with a couple of people.

As well as those chimney cakes, a few other sweets were collected to be shared around the table. Three kinds of sweets were gotten, a hazelnut truffle cake, a cream cheese brownie and Pink Cloud - which is a slice made out of coconut mousse with red currants mixed through it. To different extents, all three of them were really good. First of, the hazelnut truffle cake was good and had that similar note that chocolate has (i.e. why some people consider Nutella chocolate) and was soft and crumbly. It was the weakest of the three, but still a fair bit better than average. The pink cloud was a bit unusual, and that is what makes me like so many kinds of food. It was slightly tart with the currants, and it had a great coconut flavour; the combination of the two was fruity and delicious. Saving the best for the last, I seem to be a sucker when it comes to brownies - particularly when the texture resembles butter like it was so here. Just how rich it was with chocolate, plus that texture of cream cheese gave it an edge I did not know was still left in brownies to surprise me with a new variety. Kudos, Kurtosh. Kudos.

When saying how the chimney cakes are the must try items from here, it is said this time around fully understanding just how big the magnitude of temptation when looking at the cake cabinet. Really, down to the bone it is all good here and if I were a local in walking distance (or at the nearby university) the staff will see my face several times a week. That is a testament to its quality.

Well this has to be one of the best places for coffee and cake that I have been to in quite some time. I liked the layout of this place, I liked the mentality of being laid back which lets it settle in, and how can it not be complete without food? I said it in the previous paragraph, but in the condition I was residing in the neighbourhood it would have already seen my return.

This place is perfect for a late night sugar fix. Also for a romantic after dinner chill out. Love that you can pick how big or small a slice you want, it allows you to try as many flavours as you'd like. Staff were knowledgable about the cakes and they were able to tell me which of the cakes had gelatine and eggs and which ones were suitable for vegetarians. The baked cheesecake and the cheesecake brownie were baked slices of heaven!
Pollo_pesce_me
Bought a cinnamon sugar kurtosh and chocolate twist. They made kurtosh there and then and it was really fresh and hot! I like the taste it reminds me of pretzel with more crunch texture. Chocolate twist was very nice; the crunch pastry with slightly burnt chocolate went really well together.

You can not taste anything.
Chinese waitress not very nice and doesn't even speak english.
This restaurant could be teached some customer service basics...
As for Kurtosh, great food, so please try Surry Hills or another one, but not Randwick!
Kim Nguyen
Have yet to try the scrolls, but the cakes are very nice, rich dense and flavoursome. I especially like the apricot teacake and the orange and olive oil cake. The coffee is so-so.
Frank
Awesome fit out with a laid back ambience. Amazing selection of delicious cakes and sweets charged by weight so you can have as much or as little as you like. Definitely one of my favourite cake joints in Sydney.

Soft yellow lighting and the perfect ambiance for a date night ;) Price is decent and this place is a happy land.

They sell a variety sweet and savory pastries and are sold by weight. It's $X.XX/100g and you can opt for less than a 100g.

Found this bakery/cafe by accident and ohhh boy sure am glad I've discovered this gem! I've tried their Baked cheesecake and it's soooooo good! Soft, Fluffy and melt-in-you-mouth. If you've tried Japanese cotton cheese cakes before then you can relate to this goodie.

I have also tried the Burekas - Savory Flaky Puff Pastry Parcels, in Mashed potato, mushroom and onion. There isn't a lot of mushroom in there, more oniony taste and mostly potatoes. Overall delicious.

This isn't important at all but I loove the plate that the pastries are served on! It's like a heavy duty marble/ stone plate. Tried to look for the label to see where these are from but couldn't find any:( Kudos to good kitchen wares !!!

Only been here once and will definitely drop by here again to try the rest. Can't wait ! :)
Karen
If I could live in this store, I would! If you have a sweet tooth, this may be your end as the taste testers they put on the counters are far too tantalizing! Cinnamon scrolls and pastries for days! Plus a fun place to take people who haven't been to Sydney before.
Sahar
It's easy to buy too many cakes here. Bought by weight, you can specify how big you want them to cut your piece. Personally don't like the kurtosh itself... I come for the cakes mmm
JCT
Nice place for coffee and cake! My daily dose of coffee and (sometimes) coconut & pineapple cake.

The interior is nice and cosy and their super warm heater is definitely the plus for this cold winter.

Kurtosh is the best, and now I have found a go-to coffee/dessert/pastry place in my area. The caramelised hazelnut Kurtosh tasted so good that I wanted more, and the vibe of eating in at the cafe was so nice. I give the extra 0.5 just because it opens from morning till night; perfect for a good fix any time of day.

Consistently good coffee and fabulous cakes. Friendly staff and a positive vibe. Also the free samples and ability to order items by weight is an excellent idea that adds to whole experience.

I've tasted Kürtosh before back in Czech Republic (Czech's version called Trdelník) and you know what? Kürtosh's Kürtosh tastes surprisingly even better than the traditional one!!! I love it soo much I feel like eating it every week. The nutella is my favorite.

Great aroma and coffee. Best coffee in randwick - and such nice cakes to boot!

I first discovered Kürtősh in in my first week of university, introduced by a friend who did not anticipate the impending and oftentimes unhealthy love affair. When he told me about this humble little Hungarian patisserie and its weighted pricing system, my eyes lit with incredulous glee. "Nu-uh, really? So it’s like buying meat at the butcher’s but with cake?!" "Yeah…" , he replied with some degree of unease. And with that, a second stomach opened within me to accommodate the inevitable food coma.

I Ordered the Chocolate hazelnut spread kurtosh, Crispy with crunchy glaze on top and fluffy pastry with choc hazel inside :) Best eaten while it's still warm ^^

The café is so cosy. With beautiful bare-brick walls, tiles behind the counters and wooden floors. Behind the counter is equipment for making kürtőskalács – the pastry that the café is named after.

This place is either the best or the worst for people who are dieting. Most cakes/pastries are baked as a GIANT slab. They are sold by weight and you can get then to cut a slice as big/small as you want. SAMPLES!! That was one thing i loved about this place. They had small plates along the counter with small cubes of cake and sweet breads. They weren’t stingy with their amount of freebies to taste test either! I definitely did not want to over-do it and take advantage of their generosity but it took a lot of self control to refrain from having seconds thirds.

One of my favourite afternoon tea/ supper places in the Eastern Suburbs is Kürtősh at The Spot in Randwick.

Kürtősh comes from Kürtőskalács (kürtő refers to chimney/ wide pipe length, and kalács refers to milk loaf), a Hungarian pastry famously known as the chimney cake. It is often sold as sweet snacks from carts on the streets of Hungary. It is a delicious helix-shaped pastry rolled in different toppings like caramelised sugar, cinnamon, pistachio, hazelnut or chocolate.
KatCakes
The bare-brick interior and wooden floor boards create a cosy, relaxing atmosphere, making Kurtosh the perfect stop over for breakfast or a place to meet up and chat over a mix of traditional Hungarian pastries or contemporary cakes.
MissTea
Tea at Kurtosh is served the way tea should be served in cafes...
Simon Leong
Plenty of interesting cake choices, Samples to try on the counter, The only place I've come across that sells Kurtosh, Open til late, Fair amount of seating although metal chairs can get a little uncomfortable after a while. Cakes sold by weight.
James McC
Stale cake poor service. Came here with my family and although the chocolate cake for my wife was ok the carrot cake was deied out and stale. Asking for it to be taken away was offered no refund we will not return so many better options at the spot.

A Lucky Find!. With an hour to spend between appointments, I was on the hunt for a coffee. There are plenty of wonderful places to fulfil this need in The Spot, but everyone already eating and drinking at Kurtosh looked relaxed and happy so that was the place to try.

I had a slice of carrot cake—rarely do I order anything other than a coffee, but there were many tempting things on offer which looked great. The cake was moist, fresh and was quickly gone. The coffee was nice also.

The layout is open and easy, with a lot of space between tables, so no fear of having to listen to another conversation. Will be back to try more from this place, it was good value and delicious.
Topmaverick777
Stale cake. Bought a walnut and banana cake there today ( $11) and got home and it was dry and stale. Have bought them before and they have been OK but they need better quality control. Throw the old cakes out.

Enjoy Kurtosh!. I was in search of good coffee, and this place just gave out the we-make-good-coffee vibe, and it did. My large soy latte (with Bonsoy) was deliciously creamy. While there, I decided to try the place's specialty-Kurtosh. There were a number of flavours (if you like) to select from (e.g., walnut, Nutella). I decided to go with almond. As per photos it is a pastry, glazed with a sticky sugary substance and rolled into almonds. I absolutely enjoyed the richness of the texture and the flavour. However, it was too big for me to finish. I would recommend getting one between two ppl to share, but then again, if you come in hungry you might just be able to finish it off :) I can't wait to be back in Sydney to try another flavour.
Miss Latte
Awesome cakes and coffee. People are nice here except one blonde cranky sales assistant girl. She never smiled, had a bad attitude and kept banging all the plates and cups the entire time we were there. She managed to ruin the atomosphere of this beautiful cozy bakery.
Gemma
Best cake. Excellent cake, and the Kurtosh - a chimny shaped cake which is caramelised outside with soft inner walls (the description from their website) is delicious - order it fresh! It will be hot and crispy! And is good to share between two or three people. They also have a few savoury pasty options. You order and pay for your cake by weight. Cakes are always lovely and fresh with lots of options, about fifteen or twenty! I'm not sure on what days or how often they bake, but you'd be hard pressed to be disappointed I think. The coffee is good too, service is excellent because staff are super friendly despite the crowds you'll get a smile. And it's cosy inside (the interior is bare brick, dark wood, blue Moroccan-style tiles and seating is on sturdy wooden stools around small tables for two or three people, outside you get a little seat). I've always got a seat, but it can get busy in the evenings, mid-mornings on the weekends, and with after school crowd. Best cafe at Randwick's The Spot. And it's got wonderfully long opening hours, about 8am-11pm each day.

Love love love this place! Such great customer service, the cookies and cream cheesecake is my favourite and a newly found one is the peanut butter flavoured cheesecake, has to be my fav dessert store when I need a little sustenance after a long day.

:)

Fantastic.. I love this place. Great coffee, too many cakes to choose from. Staff friendly, service excellent. You can happily sit there by yourself or with friends. The only complaint is that it's hard to get a table!

Kurtosh, a great place to relax and enjoy the cakes and coffee. Although I have spent great times but now I am sitting here after a while and order my regular ice-coffee as I am a fan ! But ! The size is reduced and we all know that size matters ; ) even the white chocolate part at the bottom of the cup has been disappeared.
Hey Kurtosh get back to old days and bring us good times

A firm favourite of ours, great coffee, fantastic cakes(bought by weight) and friendly service. No wonder this place is always busy and has opened another

Coolest place at The Spot. Awesome coffee (a compliment I don't give away lightly), beautiful little cakes and a nice atmosphere right off the main road.
