Review La Sen Vietnamese Restaurant - Randwick

We came here for early lunch with an Eat Club Voucher. Got the Vietnamese coffee (served hot or cold) - would recommend! We all got pho, Crispy Chicken, Beef combo, and the spicy beef one. Not the best broth I’ve had… average and the spicy one didn’t have much colour either. For a $17 pho you expected more but the servings were alright. Seating is nice when it’s summer and their windows are completely open. Would I return? Probably not

Initially I thought the pho wasn’t too bad, nice beef stock. The noodles were ok and the herbs were alright as well or so I thought. Unfortunately both my wife and I were extremely tired after eating this dish which usually happens when there is a lot of MSG in the soup stock. We both felt like we were hit by a truck so definitely can’t return.

Ordered via DoorDash and it arrived ultra fresh & delicious! Would definitely try the taro blistery spring rolls! 🧡✅

Food presentation is clean and hygienic. Customer Service is so so. It was courteous but there was an impression to rush and turn the table. As Coeliac family, the waitress flew through the menu quickly and rush us to order. We were asked to share 1 small table that seemed to just fit for 2 people for the three of us. I politely declined.

Decent food, but a bit over priced (a bit ) for quality. Nothing bad, but nothing special too!

This venue has just recently moved to a new location (just 3 doors up from the old location). Love the beautiful decor with inviting neon lights and greenery wall. The menu is extensive and the food is delicious as always! My favourite dishes from my recent visit: Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (That broth tho. Liquid gold!) Crispy Soft Shell Crab (Irresistible!) Vermicelli Bowl with Lemongrass Chicken (My all-time favourite) Vietnamese Pancake (Definitely not your ordinary pancake!) Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Love how strong the coffee is!) Highly recommend.

Contrary to some other reviews, had a very positive group dining experience for dinner with great food at a reasonable price. Wait staff were sometimes a little inattentive but overall a positive experience. Would return again.

I was wanting to try a new place in The Spot and I popped into this Vietnamese restaurant on a public holiday recently. I was not in a rush and had come with a book, to really enjoy my solo dining experience. From the very start, the service was really poor. My order was taken quickly however, I had to ask for my beer about 15 minutes later and then I thought my rice paper rolls would be arriving soon. I waited for at least 30 minutes as nothing had arrived and looked up from my book to see all the other tables looking around, irritated, as they were waiting on their meals or parts of their order hadn’t arrived. I then observed how many delivery drivers and takeaway people were coming and going - it was INSANE! And I realised that the restaurant was being totally neglected and made a last priority. To summarise La sen, when I eventually got my food it was quite decent, but I would only recommend getting a takeaway because I thought the restaurant section was poorly managed.

An Resto in Bankstown is all time fav for Pho. From 0 to 10 (10 being An Resto) La Sen is a 9! I have tried diff places and so far, only La Sen's rare beef pho comes close to An Resto! No need to drive to Bankstown for my pho fix!

Such tasty food, great variety and lovely customer service, everyone was so friendly and our family had a great time there. Would definitely return :)

Had lunch here and the rare beef pho came out and immediately the beef had a funny smell and taste. Had 2 bites and sent it back to the kitchen. Was told it was fresh today. That afternoon I was so sick for 5 hrs. Might want to check you supplier

Vermicelli salad could have done with more salads and less noodles

This place was terrible. We went for a friends farewell and the service was so slow. The food was very unappetizing. Everyone was disappointed and to top it off, the waitress over charged the bill and when we tried to correct it she was being so rude about it. Worst Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever been to and would NEVER recommend it to anyone. Not even my worst enemy.

We visited the Spot on a Saturday night for a date night making up for our Valentines date. After a fantastic movie at Ritz, we decided to have a glutenfree dinner. We usually eat Sashimi but we pick a different cuisine on our date night. We walked along Perouse rd and noticed a local Vietnamese restaurant which was fully packed. We asked for a table for 2 and the staff politely asked us to wait as one couple was finishing soon. We got the outdoor seating which was fantastic in this beatiful weather. We ordered the usual Vietnamese signature dishes like ricepaper rolls, springrolls, crispy pancake, green papaya salad, salt and pepper calamari, and seafood sizzling dish and a few bottles of Vietnam beers. All the dishes were very fresh and delicious. The wait staffs are very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back with our friends and family

Hair wrapped around noodle in pho. Not a great thing to encounter, and even more disappointing was the reception of this when l informed wait staff when paying the bill - l got told it "was not hair" and that "lemon grass has fibres" and it is most likely lemon grass on the noodle. No comp, and several apologies after reiterating to me l was wrong and it was not human hair served in my pho. Interesting.

Below average Viet food standard unfortunately. Chicken and veggie wok was ok. Prawn summer roll was a bit dry but edible. the worst is their Vietnamese pancake, beyond terrible. the pancake was too crunchy and oily. it tasted like the pancake just been washed in an oil tank. had one bite of the pancake and abandoned the rest. thought the fillings: veggie & tofu would be less oily. Disappointingly very bland and oil level is 10/10.

| Randwick | La sen | 📍With summer right at our doorsteps, I’ve lately been craving to have vietnamese food. This place is just perfect for me with lots of parking with 3 hour limits. Upon visiting this restaurant, I’ve noticed that this place had lunch special and caters to corporate functions which was perfect. Lots of indoor seating, the staff were quite friendly. More importantly the menu was extensive and had lots of delicious options.
.
.
🐷Crispy Pork Belly Baos - It was a sweet and savoury taste on first bite, I’ve noticed sweet caramelised onions and nice meaty pork belly inside which tasted quite fresh, fragrant and delicious. Cant get enough of this, I just had to order more.
.
🍜Pho Tai (Rare Beef Soup) - What can I say, this has been my favourite classic of mine. The broth tasted beefy nice and clear, noodles were silky, the beef was quite tender and delicious. Side beans sprout, basil and lemons were included which I had to throw in while ate down this bowl of goodness.
.
🍤Grilled Sugarcane Prawn Paste Rolls - This was so delicious, had nice soft noodles and juicy prawns.
.
🍴Vermicelli bowl (La Sen All in One) - Beautiful bowl with lots of flavour, strong fish sauce taste and taste sweet as well, had nicley fried pork and spring rolls. Another classic favourite vietnamese dish of mine.
.
🍹🍉Watermelon Drink - Tasted fresh, crushed watermelon and sweet flavour profile.
.
🥥🥥Coconut lime - Has a strong lime and coconut flavour undertones, with pulp.
.
An instant favourite go to for Vietnamese food to satisfy your hunger if you live locally. Thank you Lasenrestaurant.

🇻🇳🍜 FRESH FLAVOURS THAT PACK A PUNCH 🍜🇻🇳
.
.
🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆: I only started eating vietnamese food like less than 3 years ago.. like wow and why right?! Growing up in the Gold Coast, Vietnamese cuisine wasn’t that prominent and so I never thought of trying it until my friend introduced me to the vermicelli noodle salad bowls, and I’ve been hooked ever since! So when I went to @lasenrestaurant I knew that this is the bowl I needed to order and it surely did not disappoint! This cosy but spacious spot in Randwick is convenient with ample parking (3 hours) nearby and close public transport. The staff were friendly and offered lovely service 👌 .
.
🦐 summer rice paper rolls (prawn & lean pork + grilled sugarcane prawn paste): so fresh and packed to the brim
.
🐷 favourite bun (crispy pork belly): the pork was very crispy and a nice surprise was the caramelised onion, so yummy!
.
🍜 pho tai (rare beef): you could tell that the broth was slow cooked fresh and the beef was so tender! I normally don’t like pho because of the tendon, but this was clear of that and was tasty!
.
🥗 bun tron (la sen all in one): sugarcane prawn, pork skewers, spring rolls, grilled pork meat! Seriously so many toppings and what stands out from all the other bowls I’ve had, is the generous of size and amount of fresh veggies which I love. A perfect summer dish, and I would happily come back just to enjoy this dish again!
.
🍉 watermelon crush: this also has lychee and was so refreshing
.
🥥 coconut lime crush: the lime flavour stood over and there was fresh coconut flesh blended through, was not overly sweet
.
📍 ⓛⓐ ⓢⓔⓝ ⓥⓘⓔⓣⓝⓐⓜⓔⓢⓔ ⓡⓔⓢⓣⓤⓐⓡⓐⓝⓣ
.
.
Thank you @lasenrestaurant x @omptymedia for the invite! 💕 .
.
#LaSenRestaurant #ChaoCatering

For fresh, tasty and traditional Vietnamese food in Randwick, a visit to La Sen is a must! Even before walking into this restaurant I could smell the aroma of delicious Vietnamese flavours such as grilled meats and aromatic herbs as I was approaching. You can order take away and there is a decent amount of seating inside the restaurant.

The extensive menu contains all of your favourite dishes from spring rolls and summer rolls for starters, a range of fresh salads, stir fries, everyone’s favourite noodle pho and my favourite - the vermicelli bun salads.

We ordered the following dishes:
‘All in One’ vermicelli bun salad - this was topped with an assortment of sugarcane prawn, pork skewers, pork spring rolls and grilled pork. Underneath was fresh vermicelli tossed in a tangy garlic fish sauce with lettuce, cucumber and pickled salad. Topped with saute' spring onions, roasted peanuts, shallots and fresh herbs. This was a winner, I often can’t choose which option and this was perfect as there was a little bit of everything to try.

Vietnamese green papaya salad - delicately tossed with prawns, sliced pork, pickled salad, onions, green apple, fresh herbs and roasted peanuts. Served with prawn crackers. Loved the fresh, crunchy flavours of this aromatic dish.

Minced pork and mushroom (Ban Cuon) - steamed rice noodle roll with a delicious filling inside served with homemade tangy fish sauce. The outside rice noodle roll was soft and delicate. I haven’t had this dish in ages, it certainly satisfied all cravings.
Summer Rice Paper Rolls with sugar cane prawns - served with La Sen homemade peanut hoisin sauce. Loved the dipping sauce and the fresh, healthy ingredients inside the paper rolls.

There is also a decent drinks list, from beers, soft drinks, crushed ice drinks (we had the watermelon crush, very refreshing!) and of course, the Vietnamese iced coffee.

Overall, a tasty experience at La Sen, I’m keen to try the pho noodle soup and other dishes off the menu. La Sen also offering catering for corporate parties and events.

Thank you to the staff at La Sen for looking after us.

Note: I dined as a guest of the restaurant. All views and opinions are my own.
Eats With Marie
With a charming, local vibe, Randwick’s La Sen is a cheap and cheerful spot for fresh, delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Offering an extensive menu with all the classics, La Sen also features a variety of dishes less commonly found around the CBD and Eastern suburbs, including the likes of claypot caramelised fish, sugarcane prawns and their signature chicken wings (where finger lickin’ good is an understatement).

The decor is pretty odd inside. There's plants hanging from the ceiling and the toilet is located outside the dining area. It's very dark in there too. The food and prices are ok, but the menu isn't as extensive as other Vietnamese restaurants. Service could be improved.
Vondelicious
Situated on the small dining strip on Perouse Road, there’s no shortage of great dining options, but La Sen proves quite a popular spot when we visit, packed mostly with families. And it’s not difficult to see why it’s so popular, with an extensive menu of all your Vietnamese favourites and plenty of fresh ingredients.

We would recommend the lotus stem salad, which is similar to the Green Papaya salad with the addition of lotus stem. This means you’ll get an additional satisfying crunch from the lotus stem, in addition to the familiar green strips of papaya loosely tossed with prawns, pork, green apple, onions and plenty of fresh herbs.

Amazing service and yammy and fresh vietnamese cuisine. The lemongrass and chilli chicken was succulent. I would recommend it to anyone who is keen to taste some authentic vietnamese in a very cozy setting !!

In Short: La Sen is a family-friendly, traditional Vietnamese restaurant located in the buzzing Randwick district. The warmth from the restaurant decorations and service, plus the wonderful smells eminating from the restaurant’s kitchen, makes it a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world, and just indulge in some good soul-comforting food.

Traditional Vietnamese in the heart of Randwick. Flavoursome, great variety and the Pho was exactly what I needed on a freezing Sydney night!
Highly recommended. Value for money I though. Make sure you order up the crispy spring rolls. To die for!

Quality Vietnamese food at The Spot, Randwick. Pretty large selection of dishes available for a local eatery. Service is friendly and dishes arrived promptly although I can see quite a few takeaway orders being picked up in the time I was there.
The spring rolls are crispy and generously filled and the Salt and pepper calamari were lightly battered and so delicious. These went well with the coconut and mint ice drink!
The special beef pho is one of my favourite in Sydney and I’ve had my fair share over the years. I find some of the more popular ones too sweet but this one is the right balance of flavour for me. The ‘La Sen All in One’ Vermicelli bowls is full of toppings and perfect for people who can’t decide! We enjoyed everything and will definitely visit again.
Cool Beans Life
‘La Sen’ means Lotus leaf, Vietnam’s national flower. La Sen transported us straight back to Vietnam with an authentic menu that’s fresh and healthy. We decided to get a spread that we can share and enjoy. We got the:. Summer rice paper rolls with grilled sugarcane prawn paste served with homemade peanut hoisin sauce.

This perfect restaurant located conveniently in the middle of Coogee and Randwick. We loved the fresh papaya salad. The chicken sizzling hot plate and beef cubes were seasoned and cooked to perfection with extremely generous portions. Great service from the staff and there was hardly any wait time for our food to be served!!

La Sen is a Vietnamese restaurant located in Randwick. It has such an extensive menu so there's something for everyone. On this particular lunch, I decide to order a few other dishes that I haven't tried before. Matt and I absolutely love Vietnamese food because of the fresh, tangy and light flavours. We sit outside on this particular day and watch the world pass by. We sip on our icey drinks to cool down. Matt orders a lime and coconut while I opt for the watermelon crush.

We’ve been here a couple of times and all I can say is that it’s hit and miss between different dishes. We ordered the roast duck and pork belly bao buns. They were delicious, however the flavour was overpowered by what appeared to be caramelised onion or an onion jam. The five spice crispy chicken was bland, without any sign of five spice or seasoning.. We also ordered the seafood with soft egg noodles and the wagyu beef pho. Both were delicious and freshly prepared. The new venue is clean, however a little overpriced.

A lovely restaurant situated on Perouse Road. It is a casual eatery with your standard Vietnamese favourites and suitable for nearly everyone.

The service is hospitable and very friendly. Easy to get their attention if you needed anything.

We started of with some fresh and light Roasted Duck Summer Rice Paper Rolls. Filled with juicy duck, vermicelli, and salad, this was a great start to the meal and tasty with the homemade peanut hoisin sauce. The Duck Crispy Pancake was crisp and not oily at all. It was generously filled with duck and bean sprouts. Accompanied by a crisp salad.

Continued with Premium Wagyu Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was lovely and the meat was very tender as it was better quality than most beef pho. The Special Combination Pork Vermicelli Bowl had marinated pork, pork balls, and spring rolls. Perfect for this summer weather it is light and fresh with the salad and enough yummy protein to keep you full.

It was buzzing with people for lunch and seems to be a firm favourite amongst locals.

***edited 15SEP18***

Been here again and can’t really fault the food or service. The rolls are unfailingly delicious and winter bun special was great.

Flip out for Pho? Then you’ve come to the right place🍲
I’m told La Sen’s fabulous pho is what dreams are made of and who am I to disagree!😉

Not only does this Vietnamese restaurant in The Spot, Randwick make an outstanding pho soup, Its entire menu is one big flavourlicious feast👌

This is a place where you can come to indulge in some truly tasty dishes and walk away with plenty of money for a cab ride home🚕

Although La Sen serves alcohol, they’re also quite happy for you to bring your own which makes this cheap night out in Sydney even more appealing🍷

If you fall in love with La Sen like I have, try Chao Catering for your next business meeting, I’m sure your colleagues will enjoy their fresh and healthy range just as much as you do🍴

La Sen is Vietnamese for lotus leaf, and the perfect name for a little family owned restaurant in the vibrant Randwick Spot. The restaurant itself is narrow and reminds me of the street eateries in Asia with its bright colours and that familiar aroma of incense as you enter. We made our visit over an early lunch on a hot day when as the light and refreshing cuisine is best enjoyed.
Love At First Bite
I come from a Viet/Chinese background so always love restaurants that serve up food that reminds me of what my parents cooked back when I was growing up. As a result, I was super excited to try out La Sen and sample their menu one Sunday afternoon and will share that experience with you here. To start we ordered a couple drinks. The first drink we ordered was the traditional Vietnamese Coffee. This takes me back to my travels to Vietnam in the summer when it was hot and an ice cold coffee was just the thing that I needed to give myself a hit of energy from the caffeine and the sugar from the condensed milk, and cool down with the ice. Be warned however, it’s strong stuff so not for the faint hearted/if you are caffeine sensitive!

Really loved all the food. The salt and pepper eggplant was to die for, the vegetarian egg noodles and the tofu pho were also great - only side note I would say is there could be a greater variety of vegetables in the pho. Quick service and also BYO though and great value for the price, left full!

Located in the restaurant hub of Randwick, La Sen will leave you feeling fresh and satisfied. Vietnamese is most certainly the new Thai in Sydney. The entrees here really were the stand out - the homemade crispy spring rolls with minced pork followed up by the duck salad wraps were the perfect start to the meal. The spring rolls gave us our fried fix and the duck wraps were fresh and full of flavour. For something different to the usual pho or noodle salad we tried the la sen chicken curry with potatoes which was a mild curry in coconut milk. For those that like beef the beef sizzling hot plate was full of meat, onion and seasonal veggies. Paired with a glass of wine we were left feeling very satisfied.

La Sen has great authentic Vietnamese food. I'd say it tastes just exactly like what my mum always cooked when I was back home! Price is decent but some dishes are a bit overpriced (Vermicelli rice rolls aka Banh Cuon $7.9 for 2 rolls) . Service needs huge improvement. Although the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable, they're too busy with takeaway orders to take care of dine in customers.

We couldn’t be bothered traveling to Marrickville so since this restaurant was closer to home and had decent reviews, we came here for dinner tonight and we weren’t disappointed.

My mum who is visiting from overseas, wanted to try Vietnamese pancakes and even though you have the option to have duck inside as the filling, we went for the traditional version with pork and prawn. We also tried their crispy prawn and duck buns which were average due to the bun not being nice and fluffy.

My mum and I had their combination pho which was perfect for the cool, wet weather we were having today. My son surprisingly didn’t like his chicken pho. He usually loves the rice noodles but today said he didn’t want it and just wanted the chicken. My husband tried their all in one vermicelli bowl which was one of the priciest he has had but found it pretty good and well presented.

Glad we got to try this place as it’s close to home, although parking can be a hassle.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
In January Jessica Nguyen’s restaurant, La Sen, will have been in The Spot for three years. That’s no mean feat in such a competitive restaurant zone, where eateries sporting a global collection of cuisines vie for the attention of locals and moviegoers to the Randwick Ritz. The older-style space has had a cheerful yellow and grey makeover that has been enhanced by the addition of a wooden ceiling panel. From it leafy green fake ferns, that, when added to the vase of namesake lotus flowers and seed pods, add something organic to the long, dark and narrow space. With Sydney’s yo-yoing weather kicking out a doozy of summery day, our first thought was beverages. Nothing could be more satisfying than an ice-cold Coconut Lime Crush ($7). It's faintly green with aromatic fresh mint, with enough lime to help the coconut from being too sweet. You’ll also find three different Vietnamese beers on their short list. While they’re all quaffable hot weather brews, I preferred the...

Located on a strip with many other competing restaurants, La Sen is a Vietnamese one which separates itself from the rest.
The food is great and so is the service.
The guys working there are all lovely and the food comes out relatively quick so if you're starving, you don't feel like you're waiting a million years for your food.
Invited by Ompty Media, we were lucky enough to get invited to eat here.
The food is beautifully presented and fresh!
Definitely one to try!

Have been here on a number of occasions and the service is always on point the staff are very attentive. Drinks are reasonably priced and the food is always fresh and full of flavor. The warm spring rolls are amazing and a must to try
Overall I'm always quite satisfied when we come here.
We dined here on 28/3/17 at 9.00pm and were very disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered sizzling mixed seafood plate with advertised vegetables such as snow peas , broccoli and other variety of veggies. We got a plate with seafood, onion and green and red capsicum exactly the same as the chicken dish we ordered. I complained to the waitress and her feeble excuse was the vegetables did not arrive. Surely someone could have gone out in the day and purchased the required vegetables. Not happy- would not recommend this place.

The food was really good. Only the fresh spring rolls were average. Definitely coming back to our 'local' Vietnamese. Strange touch with Xmas decorations in early March 🤔

FOOD TYPE
Vietnamese

FOOD QUALITY
Five of us dined on a hot summer’s night in mid-January. We started with couple of bottles of crisp, refreshing Asahi Super Dry (a steal at $7 a bottle, some places charge $9 or even $10) and a shared serve of vegetarian spring rolls ($12 for five). The spring rolls were bigger than your standard ones. They were crunchy and packed full of fresh, tasty vegetarian filling including mushrooms. What a great way to start things off. Then it was onto the mains. We ordered a selection of dishes including lemongrass chilli beef ($16), a sizzling beef hot plate ($19), lemongrass and chilli chicken ($19), stir fried chicken and vegetables ($16) and a vegetarian dish with soft egg noodles ($17). To round it off, four serves of rice at $2 each. Everyone agreed that the food was first class; brimming with those subtle Vietnamese flavours and aromas that sets this type of cuisine apart from the other Asian varieties. My lemongrass chilli beef was delicious. It had lashings of thinly cut, fine pieces of beef, well cooked just the way I like it and soaked in a tart and tangy lemongrass dressing and served with a liberal helping of vegetables. The fluffy white rice was the perfect accompaniment. My friend’s beef hotpot was brought to the table on a sizzling plate. The colourful stylish crockery added a touch of class to the presentation. Serving sizes were generous so there was no room for dessert after that lot.

ATMOSPHERE

We choose to sit outdoors, as it was a hot, steamy night, and what an inspired decision that was. I’m normally not a fan of alfresco dining in Sydney, what with all the traffic fumes and, unlike the Europeans, we really aren’t set up for this kind of dining. But in this case, apart from the occasional bus driving past with a deafening roar and a belch of poisonous fumes, we were quite happy out on the pavement enjoying the warm and balmy evening and watching the passing parade. Inside, it’s an odd configuration: long and thin and seems a bit cramped. If my memory of living in Randwick serves me correctly, this used to be a rather bland and dull Italian restaurant for many years, so it’s great to see it spruced up and reinvented as a cool and modern Vietnamese. The night we dined the place was packed and the atmosphere was abuzz with energy and activity, inside and out. But it’s super casual and laid back too, so just come as you are.

SERVICE
Service with a smile is the watchword here. These waitresses were all so pleasant, friendly, polite and efficient that it was a pleasure to be served by them. Orders were promptly taken and dishes came out quickly; so quickly in fact that the mains were already on the table before we’d even finished our starters, but better that, than having to wait ages for your meals. And a special thanks to these guys for accommodating us at such short notice as we only phoned for a table about two hours before dining.

COMFORT
Despite sitting out on the pavement we were quite comfy, with firm chairs and two tables pushed together for the five of us, gave ample room to fit all the dishes.

MENU
Menu is fairly well laid out on coloured sheets protected by plastic laminate to keep them clean and hygienic, and bound in a sturdy leather cover. Drinks and specials are on loose leaf A4 pages.

TOILETS
Toilets are at the back not far from the kitchen. There are separate male and female ones, but I found the configuration of the male one quite odd (see pic), with a urinal and a toilet in the same cubicle. I’m not sure how that’s supposed to work but if it’s meant to accommodate two people at the same time, count me out. I’d rather wait. Wonder what the women’s is like?

ACOUSTICS
I imagine that inside dining could be quite noisy in that confined space and with tables packed fairly close to one another. But outside on the pavement, apart from the roar of the occasional bus, we didn’t have too much trouble conversing.

COST
With our 25% Ent Book discount (up to a max $25) we paid a modest $103 for three Asahis, a shared entree, five mains (one with extra vegetables) and four serves of rice. That’s just great value in these dire economic times.

BOOKING

This place is clearly popular with the locals and we were lucky to get a last minute booking. But my advice is to reserve yourself a table early, especially for weekend dining.

PARKING/ACCESS

Being The Spot, parking unfortunately is the one negative. Don’t even bother looking for something around here. The whole area is narrow, awkward and congested and it’s difficult to find a parking, so save yourself the hassle and frustration and just look for a “spot” (‘scuse the pun!) somewhere in one of the residential streets of Randwick, and enjoy the walk to the restaurant.

SUMMARY
We had an enjoyable and relaxed evening at La Sen. Food was first class, ambience was just right for a hot summer’s night and service was fast and efficient. Prices are reasonable. You just can’t ask for anything better.

RECOMMENDATION

Anything with the word “lemongrass” in it won’t disappoint.

It was with thanks, yet again, to the Ompty gents that I got to visit this local family-friendly, no frills, no pretentiousness Vietnamese restaurant in Randwick. La Sen is part of the fantastic food culture that is Randwick, a place in the Eastern suburbs I would love to live if I decided to move over the bridge. So much awesome in a great suburb and that cinema as well – an ideal destination for me.

Clickety click for the full review and all the pics on La Sen.

I ordered from La Sen tonight, and waited over 2 hours for an order that never came. I contacted the store via their phone number provided, and they had had it disconnected, I called menulog themselves and they tried to call and received no answer.

They wasted not only my time, and money (45 dollars) , but due to the lateness, I was unable to order any dinner at all tonight. I would not recommend going here due to their poor service, and lack of consideration for their customers.

We saw their facebook page a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. We ordered the pancake, the spicy Hue noodle soup and the sizzling seafood. All the dishes are amazing. We will be back to try other dishes. Very authentic Vietnamese food !!

As much as I'd love to say I loved it - I really didn't. The service was extremely slow and non - existent *sigh*. We sat down, given menus, and after a quick browse knew what we wanted to order. It had been almost about 10 minutes before we waited but waitresses never came up to get our order so we flagged one down ourselves. This is when the service was kind of cold. Basic greetings or conversation weren't really present. I ordered our food and the waitress just abruptly left. At the time we got handed out share plates and cutlery I noticed that the plates still had things or I'm guessing food scraps / make sure the cutlery are dry first because yeah you'll get the tissues wet 🙄

The food:
Sugarcane vermicelli noodles $16.95. A big bowl filled with noodles, chopped up lettuce (some not so fresh), mint, cucumber, bean sprouts , pickled daikon & carrot and to my dismay sugar cane prawns cut up without the sugarcane - I do personally like to chew on them after I'm done but nevertheless I assume this restaurant caters to more non- Vietnamese backgrounds, topped with shallots and peanuts. The prawns were a nice and light texture, could use more herbs like Vietnamese mint, perilla leaf, etc. I'm not sure if the nuoc cham is just the way they do it but it was kind of off balance in taste, more sour than balanced with the sweetness and sour.

Pork + prawn rice paper rolls $6.90. The rice paper itself was unusually oily, good choice of tiger prawns 👌 and again only had lettuce / carrot/ beansprout in them? No herbs? But I guess it makes sense if there's no herbs in the noodle salad they wouldn't be any here.

The menu is varied so it's definitely a great place to try with a wide range of Vietnamese dishes - but I doubt I'll be back!

Gorgeous restaurant located in Randwick with a beautiful relaxing vibe and very friendly customer service. Bosslady Jess is so sweet and really accommodating. I highly recommend the Prawn paste wrapped around sugarcane and Homemade crispy spring rolls with minced pork, carrot, taro, wood ear mushroom and Ming bean noodle served with tangy homemade fish sauce.

La Sen serves good Vietnamese food, located in the middle of Randwick's restaurant scene. I am very partial to Vietnamese food and for that same reason I can be a harsh critic. Considering the other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to this one is OK; not amazing or great but good. We especially enjoyed entree dishes - the Viet pancake and the prawn spring rolls where very nice. The Pho broth was good but the chicken wasn't the best, the Dry seafood noodle salad with prawn was pretty uneventful.

Very friendly staff. Ordered the beef with lemongrass and chilli. My friend ordered the quail. I'm not a fan of quail as it would feel wrong eating such a tiny bird but my beef was absolutely delicious. Would definitely eat here again

Finally a decent Vietnamese restaurant located in the Spot Randwick. Great value, the go to's are the combination vermicelli bowl and the rare beef phò. The combination vermicelli bowl is packed with of course vermicelli, fresh vegetables, herbs, Salad and topped with BBQ pork and spring rolls.
The Phò has a broth that has done enough time to build flavour. This delicious soup is completed with the rare beef, bean sprouts and mint.
The service is friendly although a little slow. Recommended if you are after a fresh tasty meal. Pretty cheap, each dish is around $10-15. Casual atmosphere, kids welcome there it seems

Vietnamese food is fresh, vibrant, flavoursome and the cuisine trend of the moment. La Sen Vietnamese restaurant hooks into all of these qualities with its winning combination of tradition, friendly service, delectable meals and a buzzing location at The Spot in Randwick. Walking inside La Sen, it is an overwhelming sense of style and cosy-ness. One of our favourite ways to dine. Duke ordered a Vietnamese beer - Hanoi Premium, which was crisp and much needed after a working week. Duchess ordered a fresh young coconut juice, which couldn’t have been fresher if it was cut straight from a coconut tree! Served in the shell itself, the coconut had been cut open just for her. Sipping on drinks, we perused the extensive menu, excited for the meal ahead.

Visited La Sen in hopes of some delicious, clean eating. We ordered the egg noodle with veggies & tofu and the water spinach. Both $15.90 each. The water spinach was a good portion size and the garlic dressing complimented it very nicely. The noodle dish looked and tasted like something you'd order from a cheap Chinese place. There could of been a lot more noodles on the plate. Serving size was a lot smaller than expected for that price. The veggies were fresh on the other hand. I wouldnt go here if you are a vegetarian. Not much to chose from. Very meat heavy. But I knew this before hand.

A weekly dose to cure our cravings for a hot bowl of rare beef noodle and juicy shaking beef eye fillet

Their vermicelli mix bowl is very delicious too. All ingredients are so fresh and the taste is just right.

Another plus is for their Viet coffee. Be mindful that it can be a little bit sweet sometimes depending on who make it I guess
SOGOKOU
Great food and Nice atmosphere!
My favorite one is the crispy quail!
The restaurant also has a huge range of authentic Vietnamese food to choose from. Service is quick and friendly.
Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Not a bad Vietnamese rare beef pho, fresh ingredients and good broth. Price is reasonable for the area however I didn't dine here long enough to know what the experience was like

a bit hit & miss, caters well for the westernised Vietnamese palate but lacks the fresh punchiness of real Vietnamese food.. quite pricy too for the area

Our first time trying vietnamese cuisine in Eastern Suburb. We loved the crispy quail, Bo luc lac and a bowl of Spicy noodles. The owner is very friendly and attentive. BYO is also a plus. The final bill is under $30 each for 4 people. We will come back to try their salad.

Very good. Excellent service. And they have real Vietnamese coffee!

So authentic & tasty. We recently moved to Randwick. We have been craving for Vietnamese food in the last few months.
My wife and I went to try various Vietnamese restaurants in Coogee, Randwick, Surry Hills and Newtown area. Most of them offered Westernised Vietnamese food / Chinese food and we always left the restaurant disappointed.

We stopped by this new Vietnamese called La Sen at the Spot after the movie last night. The place was full on a Thursday night. After browsing the menu and waited for 5 minutes, the waiter took us to our table.

It is very nice atmosphere, the design is young and fresh, gave us a feeling of a new Ho Chi Minh city. The background music is Richard Clayderman beautiful piano songs.

Summary of our orders:
Prawn and Lean pork summer roll, Roasted duck summer roll, crispy pancake and Crispy Quail as Entrée. Our main dishes has Goi Ga Rau ram, Bo Kho, Caramelised Fish, Sweet & Sour Soup.

Every dish is top notch. Caramelised fish in a claypot and Crispy Quail is just perfect.

An example of truly authentic & tasty Vietnamese cuisine.

Will try Ragu Ga and Papaya Salad next time.

We do recommend everyone to bring your red wine to eat with these dishes.. Will be here next time to try the rest of the menu.

Thanks for feeding us healthy and tasty food.
