Review Koh-ya Randwick - Randwick

Made a reservation for 6:30pm, and arrived a few minutes earlier. It was undeniable packed with customers that night. The staff were rushing all over the place, and had ignored us for a bit though it was understandable. We were finally seated when a staff came to help us out, and for the rest of the night, the staff attending to us were sweet, though I can feel the stress in their heads since it was so busy. My partner and I had the buffet, and we had ordered so much food that it was overwhelming. Everything tasted incredible, and not a bit of meat was left to waste. The cooking grill was a bit difficult at first. We had really thinly sliced meat served to us initially so a lot of it was stuck to the grill. All the other meats weren’t a problem though. Everything tasted so good, and we soon realised that they were using a very similar kind of sauce for all the meats we were getting. Not that it was a problem, because the sauce definitely made it taste better. There was such a large array of foods to choose from that it would be a lot better if you saw it for yourself, but I can definitely say there’s something for everyone, and its well worth it. The quality of the food is also exceptional. Would definitely come back again, and Id highly recommend to come here on an empty stomach so you can fully indulge yourself with this.

Have to make a 30 minute drive, okay quality food, but definitely don't recommend it! I probably won't be back

We have been to Koh-Ya many times now for the buffet menu. The service has slowed down slightly each time that we've come, but the staff are always busy and trying their best. The quality of meat is good, as are the other dishes you can order. The last time we came, the restaurant was extremely smoky, noticeably hazier than previous times. Hopefully this ventilation issue is fixed soon!

I would avoid this place until they make a big effort or investment in cleaning. Tables, carpets, walls and dishes were all dirty and the bathroom was a real disaster area. We came as a party of 6 and did not get the buffet and spent around 250$. The food arrived quickly but was below average to low quality among the dishes. All of the visible staff appeared to be around 15-16 years old. I would not recommend eating here with current management.

Best Japanese bbq delivery during lockdown in Sydney east, highly recommend their premium wagyu, ox tounge, beef finger roll, porck neck, ray wings and all salads!

I was very disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant. Their premium Wagyu was tough and chewy which I really struggled to swallow. Some pieces were nice but it was a clear mix of good quality and bad quality Wagyu. We also had to order our last order an hour in even though its supposed to be a one and a half hour buffet. So it isn’t a one and a half hour buffet, its a one hour buffet. We got charged $1 for using their grill. You would think that’s already included in the buffet costs. Bizarre. I would not go back.

Cosy setting, however the food quality has decreased a lot over the last 1-2 years. In the past the special beef rib used to be so tender and would melt in your mouth. Now it is still pretty fresh, but very chewy. I went the other night and unfortunately for 60 per head, the meat is not that great. I came as a group of four and each person left unsatisfied... it is a shame as this place used to be great. I don't think I will be back for a long time for bbq.

Sometimes these /5 ratings are about as trustworthy as a politicians hands under a banquet table. Here at the 4.1*koh ya, I can kinda see why some fellow eaters are not seeing the 5* scene. This is not Tokyo department store Japanese dining (paradoxically excellent), but we are in the spot, randwick, which is let me put it kindly, not an epicurean epicentre. There's enough in the area that's good enough, and this place is at the better end...reliable, mostly Korean takes on Japanese food...which is pretty normal. The cook yourself options are fine, though they'd benefit from some pungent Korean sauces. The real stars are the more mundane menu items...seaweed soup, sashimi, and stone pot bibimba...all served as quick as said politicians hands, and at prices that work.

Great food and service. Perhaps Sydneys best Japanese BBQ. Terrific value for money. Ill be back soon.

Has there been a change in management? Cause the quality has changed downward!

Great value for money and a fun night out! The meat was marinated well.

Food is great petty about the service .. Got better service at the old neutral bay. I only saw 3 staff serving a Saturday night full house ! How to eat as much as you can when you can't get service to order ??

Bad experience and very bad customer service. We had the voucher from the Entertainment book but they don't want to accept and honour the voucher. Their excuse is that the voucher is not valid for Sunday, but it doesn't say not valid for weekend. They keep saying no no and try to deny their wrong.

Sister in law invited us to the restaurant, all the menu selected were great. Wagyu was good, the raw beef was also fresh. Tongue was also exceptional. Unagi was also great, couldn't get enough. Quite spacious and has children playground as well.

Went for $49.90 buffet. I have frequented Koh-Ya back in where they still at neutral bay. Many of the visits were good and few occasions not so good because the meat quality kind of drop.

My last visit, I was surprised by the quality of the meats. They seem to have improved on their meat quality since my last visit. For the price offered, it certainly represent great value. Plenty of choices to choose.

Would definitely recommend this place. It's 90 mins all you can eat with last order being 60 mins. The time is sufficient for us 2 persons. The dishes come fairly quick and the fire is strong so you won't need to wait too long for it to cook.

All in all, a very pleasant experience and great service.

Our first experience of Japanese BBQ, generally good ambience, service and tasty BBQ. However, meat was frozen on serving. And staff did not inform us of surcharge of $1 for BBQ mesh.
Katherine
Quality meats and friendly staff. Portions are quite generous and the BBQ seems quite premium compared to other BBQ places, I think the $50 option is worth the money considering you also have the option of ordering sashimi. The soft serve and the green tea ice cream are also lovely!
AmateurFoodie
Lovely place, the wagyu beef ribs and tongue hold best value, the meat is juicy and well seasoned. I love the yukke and salads too. Do opt for the $50 menu because they offer all the great stuff! I was happy with the service overall and it is a cosy place. Walk in table on weekdays are definitely easy to get

Korean Style restaurant with a stove in the middle of your table to cook the food. It's basically a cook your own style joint with an expensive price tag. For 4 people we ordered two types of wagyu meat, mixed vegetables, buttered fish, chicken, rice, gyoza and edamame and kim chi. Meat was very good quality. You cook yourself but it's such a high temperature, it's done really fast. About 9:30 they clearly wanted to close. They are getting a 3.5 on the basis that the chefs are awesome.

Worst place ever, they used to be so much better. Bad food, terrible service nobody knows what they're doing and the prawns and meat is not fresh, calpico water taste off.. Nothing was right about this place. It used to be so good...

I was walking through the Spot in Randwick and the smell coming from this place caught me. It was only after I walked in that I realised the experience I was in for - BBQ seafood and meat that you get to cook at your table. We decided on the $50 menu option - this gets you all you can eat for an hour and it was definitely a winner. For the solid hour we ordered different types of seafood, red and white meat as well as plates of gyozas. It was easy to unwind and hook into the dinner and conversation in a very relaxed atmosphere. There is parking in the side streets and we were able to grab walk in table. I loved this place and will be back again. Definitely worth a visit and somewhere I will head back to.

Had a buffet with cousins in this restaurant tonight, experienced one of my baddest dinner ever in my life. Overall, food was really nice, I have nothing to complaint about food. However the service, one of the staff served us with really bad attitude all the way through our dinner. As we chose the buffet menu, we ordered food for serval times. (Coz the food and drinks are unlimited ) Everytime when she taking our order, she showed very shit face . At the last we would like some drinks refill(there was still some left in the drink bottle) she took our bottle away and came back with nothing and told us because we missed our last order so we were not able to refill the drink. Then I told her that can we get our bottle back because there was still some left. She did so, but the drink that she brought back was with a lot of bubble inside . (The drink we ordered before is kind of famous janpanese soft drink and it has no bubble inside at all. It's definitely not a soda drink). We were able to determine that the drink at that time was actually mix up with detergent . We tried to communitcate with the manager but the manager refused to show up and sent a staff who can not speak English. And that female staff showed attitude that she doesn't care about everything at all. As the regular customer of this restaurant ( we have been to the other branch for couple of times and the randwick one for serval times ), after experienced this dinner, we are 100% sure we will not come back again !
Upon stepping into the restaurant, I was quite put off by an unpleasant smell. After being seated and deciding what to eat, I was further put off as I noticed a little baby cockroach run across the bbq hole in the table. We moved tables. Anyway, not a good start to our dinner. Lucky it got better in terms of food. We were a group of four and decided not to choose the buffet as meats choice was limited. We ordered from their a la carte menu. Meats were nice, we had varies wagyu options and chicken too. We paid about $40 each.
Overall, the food was fine, but I don't think I'll return because of the negative experience with the smell and bug. :(

Friendly Yakiniku Restaurant!
The place and ambience are nice.
The restaurant is not really give a burnt pr charcoal smell like other yakiniku place.
Child friendly (it has child playgroup)
The ox tongue is worth every penny
The wagyu beef is melted in mouth
It should get full mark from me but the minus point is only they mixed normal beef with wagyu beef when I ordered only wagyu beef.

It looks really nice from the outside and the inside is pretty cool... BUT, the staff was the worse I ever met, rude and never smiling. The food was completely without seasonings/marinade (as it comes raw you expect to at least have a sauce on side, but there was nothing). We asked for a fruit salad and we received (I SWEAR) a small plate with ONE tiny slice of pineapple and ONE tiny slice of orange. It was 9.30 and the restaurant closes at 10.30 but for some reason they started pushing us taking everything off our table, the kitchen hand with a cloth on his head walked pass next to our table to go get rid of the trash and then he got back at our table to get the dirty dishes. We spent 200$ x 4 and they also charged the 1$ gas. One pint of beer was 15$. I'LL NEVER GO BACK THERE. Complete waste of money.

My hubby and I fave buffet places to go! They take reservation on the day.. The ox tongue is the absolute best here, the prawn cocktail salad, spicy beef soup and wagyu beef The ones to target :) buffet is well priced to, i can say, we visit the place at least once every two months 🤗

Cucumber kimchi, salad as nice! BBQ if it's beef always get wagyu! Normal short ribs, harami was so chewy and dry. Service side of it out of 3 waitress one was not nice but other 2 was very good. Overall it was good experience but I prefer suminoya personally.

The good things about Koh-Ya Randwick are that they open pretty close to where I live at the moment and they don’t use charcoal for Yakiniku – which translates to less smoke.
