Review Chat Thai Randwick - Randwick

Kim Oscar
Out of the 4 dishes that we ordered, the fish and vegetables were extraordinary. But the salad was a bit too watery and the fried bread was not crispy enough. The service was pretty good and the prices were slightly higher than other Thai restaurants. The place however a bit too cramp. And even though there's supposed to be a toilet next door, it's better to go somewhere else if need be.

From the 6 dishes our favourite was the fried fish hands down. It gets very busy and unfortunately the visit to the loo is a bit of a hassle. Definitely give their desert breads a try before leaving.

I absolutely love the Phad Thai, it’s as authentic as what you can get in Bangkok too. The pineapple fried rice is good too! Recommended to visit!

We walked past a couple times and this place was always bustling with customers so we decided to give it a try. Overall the food was pretty good and definitely worth a try for a wholesome dinner!

Saturday night, first in best dressed. It gets busy folks so min 10-15 wait. More for smaller tables (they prioritise bigger tables). Chaotic energy during peak hours but staff still remain composure and friendliness. We got the Chicken Panang Curry with a serving of sticky rice and a stir fried spicy noodle (pad kee mao) with seafood. All recommend. No joke with the spice levels indicated on the menu. Also got Chrysanthemum tea (too sweet, diluted with tap water) and Logan Tisane (subtle but wonderful). Besides the waiting, would definitely return to try other meals! 50c takeaway box

Home Thai restaurant located in the Sydney CBD is a must visit, firstly the meals are authentic and flavourful while being reasonably priced, the cost is high but the amount of meat they provide makes up for it, the pork belly was crispy and juicy and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Very Nice Thai food, Coconut Milkshakes and sticky rice Mango are awesome too, a Must Try! Staff are friendly, polite and quick at service.

Slow service. Great food but quite oily. First few bites will amaze you but then it starts feeling too greasy because the flavour is too rich.

We were there for dinner and i decided to try different branch of chat thai. Their curry whole snapper was a bangers! Creamy, delicious with pack of herbs punches and not overpowering. We also try the same dishes on different branch but the randwick one tastes better

We ordered food here through menu log. We were notified that the order would be ready in 45 minutes. I called the restaurant after waiting for almost 2 hours ,the staff member advised me that our order would be ready in 10 mins. We waited another 15 minutes and our food still wasn’t ready so I called the restaurant again. Another staff member then told me that they haven’t finished making our order yet because they are really busy (so the first staff member who I called lied about our order being ready). I informed the staff that we have been waiting for over 2 hours for our food to which she replied “would you like to cancel then? Because we are really busy”. Absolutely disgusted by my experience here. Our order eventually got cancelled by menu log because this restaurant took over 2 and a half hours to make the food. If the restaurant is that busy then they should cancel their availability on menulog that night to prevent customers from waiting forever to get their food!

Small set up, but surprisingly a decently sized menu. The menu has a wide variety of different traditional dishes, which are reasonably priced. The food is fresh, delicious and comes out relatively quickly. Would definitely check this place out again!

You can't go wrong with Chat Thai if you're after authentic Thai food; I'm constantly in awe of their ability to maintain high standards at all their outlets despite their rapid expansion. The owner Amy, with whom I've crossed paths thanks to our participation at many, many Hyde Park Night Noodle Markets, is inspiring in her ability to innovate and stay relevant after all these years on the Sydney dining scene.

The worst service response ever had. Be told to wait for 30mins for the take away, end up it took up to an hour. No water was provided while waiting. Really bad time management. Even the food is good, but still can’t deal with the service here.

I am officially a fan of chat thai now... They never disappoint! Awesome food... Freaking yummilious.. This was the third outlet I have tried and the service and food both were amazing!

I live one minute away, so this is basically my daily food. Chat thai is overall good, this one is not bad either. Food is authentic except not very spicy as I guess they more localised. But they got a lot choices and as I’ve tried none of them really disappointed me.

Bad experience. Staff Dont have any customer service skills. Be careful if you're seated near the front door on a chilly day because the staff will ensure the door is open the whole time. Horrific experience. I don't recommend.

Slightly disappointing dinner at Chat Thai. We wanted to have the fried sticks with pandan cream but they don't have it at this outlet 😔 The Pad Thai was also salty and beef overcooked. Need to go to the city store next time. The Khao Soi was the saving grace, tasted much better especially with the crispy noodles on the top! Khao Soi is an egg noodle dish with braised chicken in a northern region coconut curry and smoked chili oil. Small restaurant and tight in space.

Food tastes great, shop has a nice ambience. We were told that the food would be a 25 minute wait but we came back in 10 minutes and it was ready!

This is a great restaurant if you dine in be prepared to wait for over an hour at times for take-aways! The 'normal menu' is great but the gluten free one has shrunk over time. Great 'mainstream' restaurant but unable to cater for anything other than. A real pity.

Unfortunately the two times I have been here, it has rained... heavily. Both times the lychee ice drink wasn't available. It's okay.
The food here is still incredible - literally enjoy everything. For the safest options the pad thai and pad kee mao are sure fire hits. I also enjoyed the fish ball curry which had little apple-eggplants. Just plain delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite similar to the main restaurant in chinatown, but I think the dull randwick street sort of kills it. It doesn't quite have the same charm. Coming here for a midweek, affordable and downright delicious meal thought is totally worth it. Plenty of people were taking take out which I completely understand too. The service is friendly, and timely, which is great :)

Best thai in Randwick, hands down.. This was my favourite when I lived out that way and still a fave when I visit friends.. The chili basil pork belly is amazing!

This place was so busy and noisy when I came here which annoyed me.
-The crispy pork with basil: was not as crispy as I expected and its quite hard to chew it
-marinated beef: its tender and juicy
Chat thai is always a great, affordable Thai meal. However, this branch pales in comparison to the Haymarket one. The menu is more limited (no crabmeat omelette! but why?!) and i found the somtam a little too sweet.

Highly recommend, excellent food and service. Put a lot of effort into the meals with no short cuts. Truly a thai cuisine restaurant. Excellent staff and place togo.
Also very clean restaurant

Do yourself a favour and order the soft shell crab in dry yellow curry. I have been back numerous times just for this one dish because it is just SO good. Of course, all the other dishes I have tried are also delicious, the waiters are friendly, water is regularly topped up, and prices are reasonable. No flaws!

First time trying the Bangkok wings - lightly battered and fried chicken wings ($9.90) and loving them that have now become a new Simon Favourite. I'm liking the Pad Thai with prawns ($15.90) with decent sized prawns. Panaeng curry of beef with kaffir lime leaves and basil ($11.90) is full of flavour and goes well with some steamed jasmine rice ($2.50 small).

Unexpectedly busy in a quiet neighbourhood. The atmosphere was great. There was no seat inside so I was seated outside right next to a couple. Not side by side nor face to face. They faced each other I faced their side. I literally stared into their bowls as they were eating. It was not because I was rude. The food was quite colourful to look at. One cannot help to stare at them. My food took a while to arrive. By the time my food arrived, the couple finished eating. They were chatting and watched me eating.

I ordered Pha Thai. A bit too sweet for my taste. The noodles were also soggy. Can't say this is the best, not even in this area. It was good that I had to walk all the way up after the meal. It helped to burn some of the sugar.

Dined here with a group of friends. We ordered dumplings and fish cake for entree and for mains Thai sausages, mixed mushrooms, prawn noodle, papaya salad and fried whole fish.
Most of the dishes were nice although I found some quite salty. The whole fish was little disappointing, fish was nice but they added lots of fried lemongrass topping which was hard to differentiate with fish bones, we all got pricked on the throat by it. Desserts were nice, but it's kind of all the same with similar flavor and sticky rice.

Service was quick and friendly.

Friendly attentive service.
Nice casual atmosphere.
The place is small, so best suited to couples or singles. I went solo.
A better than average Thai food place, with all the usual culprits on the menu. They had a separate vegetarian, and gluten-free menu. Not suitable for nut allergy, however.
Enjoyed the pad thai - fresh and vibrant.
Fried spring rolls a bit flavourless.
Food is acceptable however, the staff quote unrealistic wait times and always seem to mess something up with order.

Today will be the 3rd time in a row I was quoted 20-25mins for pickup and waited an hour or more.
Monica
Everyone needs to try their pad thai, best I've ever eaten! I find the staff at this location much more friendly, now I avoid the CBD location.

The food here is amazing, always enjoy it,even though they have forgotten our order both times that we have eaten here.It was worth the extra wait though I guess.

You can always count on Chat Thai to satisfy your Thai food craving. Ordered the BBQ duck with egg noodles and the fish wonton green curry. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and we walked out feeling more than satisfied.

Really good and fast service, the pork skewers were the highlight of the meal. Tender and succulent roasted meats on a skewer that melts with intense flavour in your mouth will leave you craving for more.

Ordered 3 mains which were the pad Thai, the crab fried rice, and the prawns with tang hoon! They were all delicious, especially the pad Thai which was cooked with dried shrimps, giving the dish excellent umami!

Will be back again when given the chance to try out more things and the sticky rice with egg custard for dessert!

Amazing Thai fod. Excellent 5* presentation of food. Fast service. They are so busy though that you're kinda moved along super quickly. A definite favourite!

Best Thai in Coogee.

Do you like your Mussaman curry? Do you like it with slow-cooked beef? I'm talking about beef so tender that you touch it and it falls apart, like a highly-strung actress.

Realistically, all the food here is a wondrous collection of richness, freshness and flavour.

I hope you're comfortable with your personal space being invaded, because this place is tiny. It kinda adds to the atmosphere, but sometimes it limits one's conversation to "anything other than controversial/intimate subjects".

Disgusted!. We normally always order from Chat Thai, tonight we ordered the fish dumplings and calamari. When it came the food was really cold, and couldn't eat the Calamari, we called and they said to give them the food back and they would bring a fresh one. After 45 mins we had to eat the cold curry (we don't have a microwave) because we were so hungry and when the delivery man arrived, we handed him the box of Calamari. After 5 mins there was another knock on the door and he passed us the phone, the woman at the shop demanded that we give her the curry back, we explained that it took so long for the second one to come we had to eat the food. She then demanded that we give the hot one back to the driver, and being so disgusted we have everything back. Terrible customer service!

Post sunset beach swims on a brisk day a visit to Chat Thai Randwick will warm you right up and fuel you for the trip home...

I’ve been told that Chat Thai is only one of a few restaurants in Sydney that comes close to capturing the same Thai food flavors as Thailand. I’ve become quite obsessed with Thai food, so of course I had to see what everyone was saying but i was a bit hesitant because who names a Thai restaurant “Chat Thai”? There are many Chat Thai stores around Sydney, but we ended up going to Randwick as it was the closest one. We arrived at around 8pm on a Friday night and got a table straight away. It’s a small restaurant and it was packed so I was glad we were able to get a table as soon as we walked in. The waitress handed us the menus which is a hard cover book. I’ve never seen a menu presented in that way, so I was pretty impressed. My boyfriend and I order the three main dishes that we always get when having Thai. At Chat Thai we ordered: Gai Satay ($3 each) - Skewered and char grilled chicken fillets with peanut sauce with a sweet chilli and cucumber salsa dip. Chicken with cashew nuts (13.

We’ve been to all of the Chat Thai restaurants in Sydney over the past year or two and the good news is that the food is consistently good, and by good I mean EXCELLENT!!
I compiled a list of the best dishes that we had recently (we don’t have photos from our earlier trips).

This was pretty good and the plum sauce tasted delicious. The crispy outside is really golden and slightly crunchy so I guess this was a good choice for entree.

One of my favourite chicken satays for many years has been at Tum Thai in Randwick but after seeing the presentation, sauce and decent size at Chat Thai I now I have another favourite to add to the list. The chicken and prawn dumplings are also good and w

Horrible service, stuffed up our order, couldn't understand my name which is very basic, barely understands English, no manners or common sense, people ordering after is got there food first, Meat was over cooked. Never eat there again! Wouldn't recommend to anyone

My favourite thai. I really like Randwick Chat Thai. The place is really small so if you go for dinner make sure you call to reserve a table. My favourites are the vegetarian spring rolls and chicken cashew nut. They do take away and byo.

The worst Thai food I've ever had!!!. Take-away rip-off!!

Got home and noticed that 2 dishes were missing. went back the next day and they basically said bad luck.

...and the food was terrible!

So that's the last time I go there!
Louise
Terrible! Have eaten a lot of Thai and this was basically inedible. The chicken they used was bad quality and tough.

Just had a take away ba mee & it was oily as...very disappointing as I was excited by the idea of being able to get chat Thai like from the OG minus the queues (which is the reason that I don't go there anymore). Heard that the Westfield one is also bad as well...are these franchises with nothing to do with the OG perhaps?
Rory
A little small - not much floor space, but the food is good traditional Thai. My favorite was the fresh spring roll - highly recommended.
Knox
Old time fave Thai joint. Love this joint - better fare than the Haymarket and Westfield outlets. Service is always pleasant. Ship and Shore is an awesome and thoroughly recommended dish!

Worth a visit!. I only heard abt chat thai in the city but this one in randwick really makes me to come back.

A range of retail stores are located at Belmore Road along with two shopping centers (Royal Randwick
Shopping Center and Coles Shopping Center) on Belmore Road where have attracted many people living nearby to shopping everyday. Within one kilometer,
Coogee is another retail precinct offering good food services while enjoying the great view of the beach. The
spot at the Perouse Road and St Pauls Road junction also have good fame for its popular restaurants, café and
recreation facilities.

Grilled satay prawns. I think the charred flavours from the grilled satay prawns dipped into the nahm jim sauce is one of the true essence of Thai flavours.

Don't bother coming here for lunch. Lunch here at Randwick was terrible. I love the one in the city, and I went to the website and wanted to get the desserts as they are all so yummy but when we arrived there, we were told that desserts were not available for lunch. Well, we ordered normal dishes anyway and then I ordered Thai tea instead of the desserts. After the food arrived, I was still waiting for my Thai tea, and then one of the waitresses told me that Thai tea was sold out as well. Very disappointing service in my opinion, why couldn't she tell me earlier?

Love this place. Having travelled in Thailand I have to say that Chat Thai is one of the only restaurants that comes close to capturing the flavours I tasted over there. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are always attentive. Food comes out fast, and it is always fresh. I guess you are not really encouraged to sit around for ages as there are usually people waiting for tables. Having said that I have never felt rushed and it is the best cheap eat around this area for sure!

Bookings...very disappointed. Heard so much about this place, always busy, so we made a booking, arrived 5 minutes early only to be told to wait a few minutes.....35 minutes later, still standing out the front, no sign of a seat anytime soon, so we left!!
Don't take bookings if you can't follow though!

Favourite Thai in Sydney!. So lucky to have Chat Thai Randwick down the road (if only they had the coconut pandan drink like the Haymarket one, hint hint!).

Bangkok wings are amazing, duck curry is very fragrant, love the marinated pork shoulder, addictive mango with coconut rice. Love the north eastern pork soup, clears out all the sinuses! Only miss was the chargrilled squid, barely chargrilled and very chewy. Love the staff, so friendly!

I used to love this place but now it is below average, oily, with obviously cheap quality meat and chicken. This was my last time.... A few places far better at the spot.

Still searching.... Good thai food, good price. ...I'm still searching for great thai food in the area.

Great Thai! Favourites are the tort mun pla (fishcakes), chicken larb salad and the BBQ lamb.

Food was great, but was rushed out the door. We had a booking @ 6:00pm and was ask to leave by 7:30pm!!!!!

There are a lot of thai restaurants around the area, pretty much all of which are average and taste the same. Chat thai finally delivers what the area needs - delicious thai. This is not your average thai place. The flavours are full, fresh, and spicy. An adventurous, intelligent menu with good service (your water glass is ALWAYS being filled) and it us not expensive at all. This is by far the best thai place around.
