Review Bouzy Rouge - Richmond

Utmost best service one could ever imagine. Food was yummy and just enough for the hungry lot after a great day at F1 Grand Prix 2022. If I had more stars than 5, would love to give all stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Repeat, we received the best service. Don't know his name, but service par excellence. Made us feel welcomed and respected. Thank you. 🙏💜🇱🇰

I was looking for a venue to celebrate my grandma’s birthday and wanted to try Bouzy Lounge firstly on my own. AMAZING PAELLA!! One of the best ones I’ve tried, and I was in love with decorations and music! The only downside that I found in this place and will prevent me from taking my family to celebrate my grandma’s birthday was the way one of the waiter treated me and it truly made me feel very disappointed with the experience. Upon arriving at 5:45pm, it took awhile for the waiter to notice that I was waiting to be served and as I asked to dine in kindly, the waiter made a comment of “we have a function at 6:30pm,” and this made me feel awkwardly unwelcome to the place, and I felt the need to finish my food at exactly 6:30pm. The annoying thing about it too was when 6:30pm hit the clock there was still plenty of empty tables. I also wanted to have a glass of Shiraz with the Paella but I felt if I asked for a recommendation he would have just been rushing me to order. The waiter or any waiter didn’t even try to check on me if there was anything else I’d like to order like a dessert or atleast bothered to top up my glass of water. Throughout my 15 years of working in hospitality, this would be on my top 5 shocking dreadful customer service. Overall, the food and atmosphere was great however customer service needs a lot more attention and improvement.

By far our favourite place in Melbourne to dine out! Food is magnificent and so authentic. Incredible cocktails and wine list. We even had our wedding here. Don’t miss out on visiting this Melbourne Institution!!

QUIRKY SPANISH RESTAURANT BAR ON BUSY BRIDGE ROAD Bouzy Rouge is a plush, expansive restaurant with an exaggerated 1960's Spanish decor (think leopard skin patterned chairs, a wall mounted, mirror-surfaced El Toro peering down at you and various Spanish swords and implements adding to the theme. The staff are relaxed and welcoming and the place is very LGBTIQ-friendly. The main dining room is a long narrow room with a mix of small table and longer bench seat + table combinations. The noise level is surprisingly low despite the crowds that flock here - probably due to the plush soft fabrics on the chairs and the ceiling mounted sound dampeners that run the whole length of the room. There is an al fresco area at the rear which is even more "Spanish". The menu is quite expansive with a nice balance between the tapas style entrees and the signature main courses. Four of us selected four entrees and the lamb shoulder as our main. That was plenty as the main is quite a large serve. Good selection of cocktails and wine (the espresso martini is particularly good!) We went on a Saturday evening where there are two sittings (early sitting finishes at 8 pm). There is a bar at the front of the dining room as well. People with mobility issues will be fine as it is all on one, even floor with no steps to negotiate.

Great food, excellent staff and an interesting venue. Leg of lamb special was a highlight, and the dessert churros were delicious. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Melbourne.

Went there for dinner on Feb 14th. Great ambiance and nice service. Everything else was way below average: special cocktails were way too sweet, paella for two was burnt and too small, lamb had no tast, steak was brown and chewy and fries were worse than fast food frozen ones. And all dishes were very salty. Deserts are ok but still too sweet.

$150 a head for a set menu (upstairs dining for a birthday) plus drinks, very poor quality and food and small servings. And, the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Locked 2 of our party (women) in the restaurant demanding extra money after telling us we had overpaid. Horrendous experience.

Bouzy Rouge was the perfect venue for my birthday party. The dedicated staff catered to all of my needs throughout the night. The amazing food ensured that all guests left happy and satisfied. I love the function room's quirky decor and I am amazed at how smoothly the preparation and execution for the event were handled by management and staff. I would highly recommend this venue for a truly unique experience.

Had my partner's birthday lunch on Sunday. The service was fantastic and the waiting staff were friendly. We were a group of 12. Leg of Lamb was definitely a winner. All the Tapas(calamari, patatas, feta cigars, brussel sprouts, chorizo, saganaki) options we ordered were on point. The sangria and paella rounded off a perfect meal. We didn't try out the deserts, as we brought our own cake. Thank you for a memorable afternoon Bouzy Rouge!

Food at this place never disappoints, service always good and makes the whole dining experience worth the price, best eatery in Richmond
Kate Stephenson
Amazing place....food, wines, service always excellent. Most places are just too noisy but a paella sangria Sunday lunch is the best 💙

I went with 3 friends, we were told about The Bouzy Rouge and it didn't disappoint. The service was great, the girls couldn't do enough, and the food and menu was all explained. We all loved our food every course, we stayed a while and enjoyed all the lovely pieces on the walls.

Met up with old friends here last night - most impressed with the great service, tasty tapas and great surrounds! Extensive wine list is a bonus! Can recommend!

These people understand hospitality to the point of perfection. The staff are happy, helpful and friendly and so great to see the owners have genuine care all round. The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. And they don't rip you off on the wines or drinks, which is a lovely pleasant surprise. Highly recommend.

Where’s Reggie ? Missing you tonight ! Your service , your smile , your professionalism !! I have been a regular for years .... at one point I could order a bread and butter pudding in the taxi on they way to Bouzy ps at midnight. Firstly ... bring back the bread and butter. Had been dying to visit but unfortunately wont be returning. Very very disappointed. Restaurant full and only two service staff (both of whom were great). Waited 30 mins before we were asked for a drink order (didnt even get water before that). Entree 1,2 and 3 arrived after 40 mins, entree 4 arrived 20 mins after that. Our reservation was for 7.30 pm. Mains arrivd at 9.40 pm. I couldnt eat mine. Sorry, too many great places in Richmond to think of a revisit.

We had a wonderful lunch; gorgeous surroundings, great staff and the food was delicious. We ordered the speciality of the house which was slow cooked lamb leg with potatoes for 2 people. Will definitely go again.
Chris Tangey
Wow our meal was amazing & a great environment in the Courtyard on a fabulous weather night. The slow cooked lamb is the best I've ever had. The wine list is extensive & the lamb with a Curly Flat Pinot Noir cannot be beaten. Loved our romantic impromptu date night.

Excellent Portugese/Spanish influenced meal. So many entre (tapas) options that I struggled to save enough room for a main meal. Great selection of beers as well. Eclectic decor, and excellent staff.
Jackie Lawler
A romantic eclectic atmosphere, fabulous food, wine list is extensive. I met my a gorgeous man there in 2015 & we are getting married this year 2017, so this place has beautiful memories for us. Food, wine & service is excellent 😊

Australia Day with a few friends was an excellent experience at Bouzy Rouge. Tasty paella and 24 hour slow roast land was snaffled by all. Brilliantly attentive staff. Good night had by all. Thanks.

I have been to Bouzy rouge plenty of times! Food is amazing and the staff are very friendly. Great cocktails too.
Brendan Wright
It was ok but exceptionally poor service after the mains came. Disappointing given the size of the bill to wait 40 mins for a beer. Won't be returning or bringing clients back.
Axel Behrndt
Great atmosphere in the private function room. Great food too Really enjoyed it and the staff is super friendly.

We loved Bouzy Rouge, the meal was amazing, service good, the company excelled as usual, thank you guys.
Hello. Imnikki
Walk into Bouzy Rouge and you’ll definitely be amazed by the wacky and quirky decorations inside, reminiscence of something out of Cirque De Soleil. This provides a good indication of the service that you will be receiving here – fun, flamboyant and whimsical. <br/><br/>Starting off with tapas, we were very impressed with the tinned Spanish anchovies, the pan-fried Saganaki and also the Jamon croquettes. Being one who adores bold and intense flavours, these three dishes hit the spot. The suckling pig must also be commended for its texture – the perfect combination of crispy crackling and tender meat.<br/><br/>When the lamb shoulder arrived on our table with only a spoon, we knew we were in for a treat. True enough, it was so tender and soft, that we only require a spoon to cut through it. Meaty and flavourful, it was skilfully cooked. The Paella Negra somewhat paled in comparison to the lamb, but it was a tasty dish nonetheless.<br/><br/>Amazing cocktails rounded up our meal, and the amount of food we ordered had us rolling out the door.
Mike B
An eclectic layout leading to a quiet outdoor terrace at the rear. An oasis on a very warm Melbourne lunch. Is Spanish oriented so a large selection of Tapas and some substantial larger dishes reigned for sharing. The usual Tapas suspects of Bravas, Jamon croquettas, Tinned anchovies etc. we close the specials of codfish croquettas and Padrone peppers. The latter were excellent and a hat tip to a dish that is rare outside of Spain. Main dish of slow cooked lamb shoulder was superb. Pork tender, but still with some structure and a delightful caramelised surface, served with excellent roast potatoes. Service was friendly and efficient. I’d return in a heart beat.

Was extremely disappointed with the service here, so much so that I will not be returning. There were multiple instances where the waiters made my friends and me feel uncomfortable. One of the worst was when a waiter sat down at our table with us to take our drink orders and didn't leave until he had pressured my friend into ordering something. She doesn't drink and had already had a non-alcoholic beverage so she didn't want another one. He kept asking her over and over, saying 'come on, surely there is some kind of drink, any kind of drink you want', until even I felt uncomfortable and I wasn't even the one he was talking to. She finally caved under the pressure and ordered a hot chocolate that she didn't even want. Later, when we asked him for the bill, he tried to pressure us into having another round by making fun of us for having an early night (something along the lines of 'wow, I thought you guys were fun'). It was very awkward. I also had an incident with another waiter - they lost my order so my food took forever to come out, which was obviously a mistake so I didn't make a fuss and I told them it was fine. Then this waiter said he would take one of my drinks off the bill as an apology so I thought it was all chill. Then when the bill came out I thought he hadn't actually taken the drink off it, so I asked one of the other waiters to check. The original waiter then came storming over and spoke very aggressively to me saying that he had already done it. I hadn't realised that one of my friends had also ordered the same drink (we were a big group, easy mistake to make). When I realised, I apologised and explained my mistake, but the waiter continued to act aggressively towards me which was so uncalled for since I'd only asked the other waiter to check anyway. So in summary, although I have to admit the food was top notch, I would not recommend going here unless you want to have a bad time.

With so many restos offering much the same fare, Bouzy Rouge is refreshingly different. Food quality excellent and staff super efficient

We had a booking for last night my friend had to wait approx 5 mins before she was attended to. It was early and it was very empty apart from a table of ladies towards the back. A waiter just ignored her and then finally another waiter asked her her if she was ok? Of course not she was waiting to be seated. It's a small narrow place so she really couldn't be missed. <br/><br/>When I arrived it was still quite empty however that same waiter that was looking after the table at the back of the restaurant was still attending to the group of girls. Without even taking any interest in us.<br/><br/>Anyway we finally ordered a couple of drinks, we had one menu between the two of us (had to ask for another) and he was still talking to the group of ladies.<br/><br/>He finally pulled himself away from the ladies and provided us with specials of the day.<br/><br/>He then went back to the ladies table, this went on for a good 20mins, without so much as a look around the restaurant at other customers. <br/><br/>Finally we were served by another waiter who was lovely. He apologised profusely, whilst the other waiter was still attending to the table of ladies. He hadn't moved all this time. Paella was ok a little burnt at the bottom rather than having a nice crust, churros were great.<br/><br/>The other waiter finally came around and asked if every thing was ok.<br/><br/>We then started looking for a waiter for our bill, by this stage place was buzzing, sick of waiting I got up and finally found one, who again profusely apologised, the same one that apologised before.<br/><br/>In summary very disappointed with the service considering we arrived there very early and the place was just about empty. Then had to go looking for a waiter to pay the bill!!!<br/><br/>Don't think we will be back....😠

We came to Bouzy Rouge on a busy Friday night to celebrate a friends birthday! The decor was gorgeous, ambiance was inviting and the staff were hilarious and made the experience great! <br/><br/>What we ordered: <br/>Stracciatella Cheese<br/>Sagonaki<br/>Jamon Croquette <br/>Patatas Bravas <br/>Roasted Fennel & Pear Salad <br/>Paella Mixta<br/><br/>Tapas:<br/>The Stracciatella Cheese on sourdough bread was so delicious! The creaminess of the cheese and flavoring was a delight. The Sagonaki cheese was coated in a sweet honey giving the dish a rich flavour. The Jamon croquette was SO good we were sad that the croquette itself was on the small side. This dish was cooked to perfection. The Patatas Bravas had a delicious sauce accompanying it which gave them the flavouring they needed. <br/><br/>Larger plates:<br/>The Fennel and Pear Salad was the refreshing dish we needed amongst all these delights. It just soothed the stomach before we launched into the paella. The ricotta & walnuts in this dish added a sweet crunch. As for the Paella, it was amazing! We honestly felt like we were back in Barcelona. The tenderness of the chicken and the crispy rice had us loving every bite. <br/><br/>We’ll be back😃

It was overall a rather memorable meal. With such an amazing range of cocktails, wines and spirits paired with superb, authentic Spanish cuisine, Bouzy Rouge offers a taste of old school glamour and is the perfect place to dig into a long weekend lunch.

Lovely place that serves a good range of tasty food. Bar at the front and dining at the back. Particularly liked the lamb. Menu is comprehensive with a good choice of food do choose from. Dietaries catered for. Service was pretty good with lovely staff. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Prams and stroller accessible. Good parking.

4.5. Just a quick visit for a pre appointment drink. Sometimes it’s the steadiness you need. I was mighty impressed that they had a Lagavullin behind the bar. I was ever more impressed when the friendly bartender commended me on my selection, went into raptures on the wonders of the Isle of Islay’s most famous smoky peaty product and then told me a couple of good stories including about the use of seaweed! This is service of a seriously high order. The interior is quirky and fun here but I’m not going to attempt a description as @Nicole Tang’s review has a beautiful description that I couldn’t go close to and that gives you all you need. I liked it here and I’ll be back for certain.
Melbourne Foodie Memoirs
We had a lovely dinner here! It took us back to our trip to Spain with their delicious croquettes, paella and churros. The stand out dish for us was the saganaki - the cheese paired with the chutney was the perfect match. Thanks for having us - we will be back!

Bouzy Rouge is an unsuspecting world of intrigue, excitement and delicious food and drinks! Although quite simple in its white pub-like exterior, enter the warm interior to discover an eclectic mixture of old-world design and decor, mostly influenced by parts of Europe, South Asia and the Middle East. It's hard to categorise this venue as a single offering, as it could easily cater to people seeking some drinks with friends, a casual weekday meal or a special occasion night out.<br/><br/>The inside of the venue features dimly-lit mood lighting, whilst the back courtyard is half undercover, but still exudes quite a spacious ambience. The menu offers a Spanish-influenced cuisine, with some French and wider-European flavours. Some of my recommendations include the Patatas Bravas, Beer Battered Chips, Crisp Fried Brussel Sprouts, Saganaki, croquettes (daily special), Paella and the Churros as dessert. A restaurant, bar and function venue that offers something different in this part of Richmond.

Ventured out with a friend while visiting Melbourne. <br/>Awesome place !! Seated in the covered courtyard we ordered some very yummy cocktails.<br/><br/>Complimentary bread for the table.<br/><br/>Entrees / starters - ordered:<br/>Saganaki - if you love cheese - ORDER THIS<br/>(Delicious)<br/>Duck liver parfait - very tasty<br/><br/>Mains - ordered:<br/>Paella mixta - chicken & prawn - delicious !!!<br/><br/>My friend had the porterhouse steak - she said this was very yummy.<br/><br/>Waiter was very alert and funny.<br/><br/>We had a lovely time here. Definitely want to come back when I visit Melbourne again

Ben is amazing firstly. He has a handle on all tables is accomodating without being too intrusive on your meal. We had a slight problem with a meal not coming out with the correct exclusions due to dietary requirements. Fixed without an issue and replace within 10 mins. Paella is strongly recommended. And chorizo entree melts in your mouth. Good food is everywhere, good service is rare so well done !!

Friendly, attentive and professional staff. Fantastic food, champagne, and wines. There was a lot of lovely choices of food and drinks to choose from. Everything tasted great. Loved the friendly and soothing vibe. It was a very welcoming restaurant. I highly recommend it to others. We will be back.

As soon as I walked in I already liked the place. The atmosphere is perfect for a nice dinner or a few drinks. The staff was really friendly and welcoming.<br/><br/>We tried a range of their tapas menus and a couple mains. Our favourite dishes are the croquettes and the paella. They were both amazing!
Timinmelbourne
I was really looking forward to some good Spanish food so my partner took me to this pub restaurant. The interior was impressive but that was it. <br/><br/>We ordered some entrees and the standout was the jamon croquettes.<br/><br/>For main we had a chicken a chorizo paella which was unfortunately dry, it has no liquid, in fact everything was over cooked!! <br/><br/>Having been in Spain I know what a great paella tastes like which is why I’ve been reluctant to try one here. And for $60 it just fed the two of us... and that was after a few entrees!
MsConnoisseur
Not sure what I was expecting from Bouzy Rouge. A friend made a reservation and I went along for the ride, I had little knowledge but was informed it was Spanish. Walking into the venue it had a safari feel with animal heads on the walls. Then when seated looking up and seeing chandeliers I felt I was part of the Renaissance and took a step back in time. Based on the decor I did make an assumption and thought this place is very confused and really did not know what to expect.<br/><br/>The menu was also a mishmash of cuisines and I soon realized that Spanish was not the only inspiration. Don’t let this worry you as what we had to eat was fantastic. Not sure why people assume it’s Spanish as it must be the Paella on the menu. There is tapas, nibbles, mains, and dessert, they have it covered.<br/><br/>We ordered Saganaki, this is something I’m very familiar with as I order it at every Greek restaurant I go to. It was the best I have had, crisp on the outside and nice and soft inside. The chargrilled octopus on Russian salad was tender, nicely cooked and not chewy. The highlight was the slow cooked Lamb leg for 2 potentially could be enough for 4, with baked potatoes. It was falling off the bone perfectly, super soft, melting in the mouth and not fatty.<br/><br/>The service was exceptionally better than some hatted restaurants that I have been to. Price was on the more expensive side but as long as the food is good I’m happy to pay.<br/><br/>ᴍʏ 3 ᴋᴇʏ ᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴇʀs<br/>• If you are expecting Spanish you could be caught off guard. They do have Mediterranean offerings also. <br/>• They have great seating arrangements main dining room, bar, fully covered courtyard, and private dining options. Ideal for any occasion.<br/>• I was not a fan of the decor and if I got horrible food and service, could not forgive this. Happy to dismiss what I’m looking at on the walls as what I was drinking and eating was all I needed to focus on.

In love with this place, it's definitely becoming one of our regular spots. The decor is cool and quirky, food is absolutely amazing and service was tops! Thankful for this recommendation and can't wait to return

Awesome food, wine and wonderful service by the staff Bouzy Rouge particularly the lovely Niree, will def be back in the near future. 🔥🍽🍷
Giorgio Barcaiolo Battaglini
Bouzy Rouge is a nice place and you can have some good spanish-inspired food. The location is convenient and it's not their fault if you struggle to find parking. They also have a function room which, aside from some... ambitious furniture, it works fine. But, toilets are not fresh and the music is too loud. Tapas are social, how can you be social if you can't hear? The service is very good and food, I said that again, it's good (chorizo was excellent).
SusieQ
A lovely cosy welcoming dining room. We were greeted by a lovely waiter who promptly supplied menus and water to the table. There was a good selection of cocktails and wines by the glass. There seemed to be plenty of beer and cider available (I am not a beer drinker). We ordered tapas consisting of scallops in their shells on cauliflower purée, and a mixed platter to share. A nice selection of jamon, olives, chorizo bread and olive oil. We then followed with seafood paella a single serve size which was ample for 2 persons. Wine by the glass a western Australian Sauvignon blanc was enjoyed. A very pleasant experience.

Friday 16.06.17 at 6.15pm. <br/>Returning for the second time having not been here in 2 - 3 years my expectations were high having truly enjoyed my last dining experience here. <br/>But, unfortunately I found myself disappointed 😔 <br/>The food was of a mediocre standard and I had to go ask the staff to return to our table to order dessert and again to pay the bill.

Been there few times ,last night was absolutely 11 out 10.Regis, manager and bartender, for ages ,in Bouzy ,made for us three amazing cocktails tasty and rich of savor.<br/>We ordered the Saganaghi as entree and The Paella Negra as a main , just delicious, just beautiful and they made them with a great amount of love. Fantastic job.<br/>The service of Sabina to our table was really professional and attentive . Really good job .<br/>Again more points for the Sangria home made.We tested the Red and the White Sangria , both of them very Yummy and rich of fruits .<br/>We will be back soon and I strongly suggest this Venue to everyone to get a really European experience in Melbourne.<br/>An enviable wine list also.<br/>Thanks to all staff for the memorable dining experience.<br/><br/><br/><br/>

Great lunch venue with interesting Mediterranean/tapas style food and an interesting wine list to accompany the food. Attentive service. Always a pleasure to dine here.

Admittedly, have not had the food here. But the staff are great and they serve a good range of drinks including beer on tap. Nice little bar.

The sunday special was good value for money! We had the seafood paella and a jug of sangria as part of the special plus some other tapas dishes.. <br/><br/>My faves were the paella which was super tasty and generous with the seafood, plus the crunchy brussel sprouts in their tapas menu. I'm generally not a fan of veggies because I don't find it delicious, but the way they cooked the brussell sprouts made me a fan and I want to try replicating how they cooked it!

A surprise from start to finish! Beautiful space, attentive service and delicious food. The spiced grain salad with grilled beef was a standout. Even the drinks were reasonably priced. I look forward to visiting again with a group as the outdoor space is just lovely.

My new favourite! The food is delicious, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the decor is moody! Love it...will definitely go back!

I must admit,me and my partner didn't eat here. So why do I feel entitled giving a 1 star review? Well we booked a table for 8.30,and when we arrived (perfectly on the dot i should say) we were told the table wasn't ready, and that something might free up 20 to 25 min time. What's the point of making a booking if folk arent going to reserve a table?
Shannon Tan
Food is exceptional beyond words, truly delicious and delightful. Had the linguini rosa, chicken paella, crab bocadilio and the porterhouse and a octopus appetiser. For dessert, we had the creme brulee. Everything was on point. In comparison to the other dishes, the crab bocadillo paled in comparion. Nonetheless a delighful experience. Would definately come by again. <br/><br/>Reccomended for lunch and meet ups.

Had dinner and drinks here for a friends birthday. It's a Funky little place, with variety of imported beers and a good choice of wines. Service was great, friendly and helpful staff, tasty Mediterranean meals and a warm atmosphere. It's hard to choose a main so I'd suggest ordering a few different meals to share and taste a bit of everything ! <br/>We'll definitely be back 🙃

long time customer feels like the chef has changed still good food but not great like it once was will continue to eat myself into an early grave from this place

We ordered all of the small plates, There where some real wows.. The salted cod - had a piquent sauce which matched perfectly. The mushroom croquette came with a spicy sauce which also went perfectly with the warm olives. Chose 2 wines which matched perfectly with our food selection and well as the trio of maderis, which was absolutely wonderful. The background music would suit a multitude of tastes added to the atmosphere. The wait staff were friendly and attentive All in all our best dinning experience in Melbourne so far.

Bouzy Rouge is a minx of a venue, she looks unassuming from the outside but the inside its just a mix of fun staff, beautifully presented food and a great atmosphere. Oysters were delicious, paella was amazing and all steaks cooked to perfection, do try the sweets and make sure you have a coffee to finish ! Get here immediately if you are yet to try it
Food_fiend99
I've returned here a number of times, definitely a fan of their food. Portion sizes are good, some dishes in my opinion are too overpriced for what they are though, especially the tapas menu. The duck liver pate is a personal favourite of mine, however for the steep price of $17 for a small jar of pate I was not too impressed. The paella was fantastic, it had that authentic Spanish taste. Definitely a place to visit though if you don't mind paying an extra few dollars and want somewhere nice to go out!

Attended a birthday function at Bouzy Rouge and I would definitely recommend it for a private event. The staff were efficient and unobtrusive, the canapés were delicious and varied and no one was ever overlooked. The calamari in particular was a firm favourite. The space itself was also a comfortable size- not too enormous so as to feel empty but not too small and crowded either.

My, this is one of the strangest places I have ever been. We walk past often and it looks just like a neighbourhood pub from the outside, albeit less seedy than those nearby. So we walked in one weekday evening expecting the usual richmondites, average cocktails and hot chips. But as we walked past the bar area we realised this is actually a fancy restaurant with white table cloths (whoa) and really confusing decoration. Like I am no interior designer but this was a cross between a french dining room and a cabin in rural Texas. I don't know how else to explain the disco bulls hanging on the wall.  The outdoor area was competitively tackier- as if my Turkish grandmother married a french duke and they started sourcing their furniture from Ishka. Opulent seating, christmas lights, a gigantic metal butterfly (or was it an elephant?) on the wall. Wow. I know I shouldn't judge the place by the looks so much but this was strange enough to be worth judging. We had some tasty wine and raciones and $80 was a bit steep. Nevertheless they are getting a whooping 4 stars from me for sourcing many incompatible items and putting them in one big room. I will go back to remind myself that the world can be a confusing place, and that is okay.

Fantastic  venue! The place looks outstanding and has the service and food to match. Went in on a Sunday to have a few beers and was blown away by the depth of the food and drinks menu. Started off with a couple of share plates, and once the rest of the team came down we moved onto some of the larger share foods. Slow cooked Pork and Lamb was amazing, and Calamari was to die for.  Wine list is extensive, beer is amazing and they even have Carlton on tap to cover everyones tastes. Am heading back this weekend!

I was a little hesitant to visit the Bouzy Rouge for my anniversary after reading some mixed reviews but I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing - just faultless. The staff were lovely and attentive and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.  We were happy campers and will be returning soon!

Drove past everyday and always thought it was just another pub. Going in today was surprised to see formal dining set and excellent service. This place serves authentic Spanish cuisine. Excellent value with $25 lunch set.

Fantastic long lunch venue! Ideal for a Sunday sesh. Started with some share dishes (Calamari was perfectly battered (not too heavy or oily) and saganaki was quality. Slow roasted lamb shoulder and beef rib are perfect sharing dishes for mains, and the perfect size, for a party of four, with a side salad. Range of beers on taps, but it doesn't depart from its previously life as a local boozer, so you can get a pot of Carlton. Wine list is extensive, with a great range of European and South American options. Dessert menu also delivered, with Codalicious smashing an affogato, while yours truly (obviously) got a cheese platter - which was awesome.

Lovely little spot with ambiance. Tapas style menu, all so tasty. Seafood, green beans, saganaki, pork and wine. All enjoyable. Staff friendly and helpful. Will return, delicious!

Pretty good. The suckling pig was fantastic, but the paella was a little bland. Service seemed a little rushed, however it was a busy night which probably so it is understandable. It probably also explains why they had run out of a couple of the wines we ordered. The atmosphere was great, although tables are seriously close together in some spots so don't expect to be able to hold a private conversation. I would come back though - decent enough food for the price.
Hungry Hippo
One of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Bouzy Rouge offers a fine dining experience in a relaxed and cozy environment. Food is just too good here that you do not want to share, even if they are tapas. Due to their pricing, I only go on special occasions.

I usually head to Slowbeer when I'm in this part of town but the Bouzy Rouge isn't a bad spot if you're in this part of town. A nice spirits selection and better than expected beers on tap. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but when I'm in the area it does exactly what's expected of it.

Just went here for our anniversary dinner - great little restaurant. Service was quick and the food yummy. Bit on the expensive side, cool ambience.....worth a visit!

1st time there but definitely a no return. Qualify of ingredients and food is far too low when compared to the price. Service was slow and staff were rushing to get us out of the restaurant. The roasted lamb was fairly good, but all the rest was a bid disappointment for the price you pay.

Headed here for a work lunch - was packed with a jovial pre Christmas crowd. The menu is packed with delicious tapas small sharing plates - perfect for lunch. We had the marinated olives and anchovy toast for starter which was beautiful and salty. Then came calamari, chorizo, prawns and char grilled octopus - all were too class and really delicious. Plenty of Spanish wait staff and a cool decor adds to a great experience. Well worth a visit.

With the recent prevalence of modern industrial décor in many of Melbourne’s eateries, I was delighted by the opulent surroundings at Bouzy Rouge. The dazzling chandeliers, glided frames, and the beautiful elephants adorning the walls evoked a faraway fantasy. The restaurant space is quite a large one, and includes a bar, the main restaurant area and even an undercover courtyard. Our table was situated in the middle of the restaurant area, opposite the kitchen. The positioning, if deliberate, was a smart one, as it enabled the servers to get to us easily. Being a group of 15+, we needed all the attention they could afford. On the service front, they certainly did a good job of keeping us hydrated and nourished, and  happy throughout the night.

Such amazing service and really good food - will be back for sure! A truly hidden little gem in Richmond, I was amazed at the decor, food and drinks menu and the staff are such a delight!
Gavin
Meatballs, calamari, chicken and chorizo paella; all amazing! Service was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable. I really enjoyed it. Will go back.

The beetroot and feta salad was incredible. Do yourself a favour and give it a try alongside the tapas menu. This place mimics traditional Spanish cuisine but adds a modern twist to it, more so in the main meals. It works, nonetheless! I'll be back (just for the salad alone) Lovely place.

Dropped in here for drinks on our way to dinner , good atmosphere and great range of drinks to choose from. We will have to go back to try the dinner experience.

Trying to be authentic Spanish type of place but the food just isn't that great. The food was basic and really nothing to talk about. Best thing was the service

Amazing beetroot salad, and very tasty tapas. Fantastic wine menu. I loved the atmosphere - it's very cozy. I'm craving that salad right now!
Nachoworm
Fantastic place to head for a drink in the peanut bar or a delicious meal in the restaurant. Tapas are always inspired and delicious. The staff are supremely fantastic with some of them working there for years. I cannot stress how wonderful it is to have such hospitable staff. These guys get it 100%. Be prepared to pay for the service and food quality - it is worth it.

Stopped in for a impromptu drink, it's like Copperart and the Asian variety store spawned an interior decorating demon who only listens to Pricila Queen of the Dessert soundtrack.<br/>Place was packed full off parent types on a 'nice night out'.

Poor experience, including a fairly unforgivable mistake.. We were seated in the rear part of the restaurant which was very dim. The only light came from wall sconces, so you can quite easily cast a shadow over your meal. I only mention this because it contributed to the most significant problem of the night.<br/><br/>We both had our eyes on a dessert so we went light on the "entree". I had one of the Chorizo stuffed peppers and we shared some of the roast mushrooms.<br/><br/>The pepper was tasty, but the filling wasn't particularly pleasing - a dry, grey mass that didn't taste like much. Only the cheese sauce that accompanied it made it edible. The cheese sauce also came in handy for the champignon mushrooms that we were served... Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of "just mushroom" as a flavour, but there wasn't much to recommend these unless you really like the taste of mushroom with no accompaniment (aside from butter). The were cooked properly though.<br/><br/>For mains, my companion had the char-grilled spatchcock and I had the Paella de Conejo (Chicken, Rabbit & Chorizo).<br/><br/>I don't have a lot of experience with paella as it usually has seafood in it, but I was expecting something with a little more wetness. What I had was tasty and all the components worked together, but it was fairly dry. It wasn't unpleasant to eat by any stretch, but I'm not sure it was a paella.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the failure of the evening was the char-grilled spatchcock in that it was under-cooked - which is unforgivable for chicken. When my friend cut through to the bone there was some uncooked-flesh and there was a reddish liquid seeping out of the meat. She didn't pick it up at first due to the darkness in the room and felt a bit ill at the prospect of having consumed some of this undercooked chicken.<br/><br/>We called a waiter over and she showed him the uncooked meat. He said "Yes" a couple of times and then took the plate away. A few minutes later, a man I assumed to be an owner/manager wandered past and in a fairly disinterested manner said "I'm sorry the chicken was undercooked." then wandered off without really waiting for a response. By the time the replacement was presented I had finished my meal. The replacement did appear to be cooked properly, but also was a little smaller in terms of serving size. As it stood, it was a fairly uninspiring meal. The chicken was just okay and the chips were overly salty and tasted very strongly of vegetable oil.<br/><br/>(At some point during proceedings a lightbulb in a nearby sconce was replaced, adding some illumination.)<br/><br/>We skipped the dessert and asked for the bill. It came, with no further apology for the mistake or any recognition in terms of a price reduction. We took the bill to the front counter and commented on the mistake. It wasn't until this point that the mistake was properly recognised and the meal was scrubbed from the bill completely and an apology was issued.<br/><br/>So, in the end, the restaurant's reaction to the problem and apology was acceptable, but we had to work for it. Some places really make an effort to make up for mistakes while others let them slide. Unfortunately, Bouzy Rouge is in the latter category and is unlikely to get any return business from me. That's a shame because their menu looked pretty good.

Not imptrssed. Paella was mediiocre, like burnt rice a riso, dissapointed.

I have eaten here about ten times over the past five or six years. It never, ever disappoints me. The tapas dishes in particular as so divine, the salads extraordinarily good, the service always great. The quirky decor is a nice change to other predictable and sterile venues. Love it and will be back again for sure.

...With such luxurious decor and generous servings of good food with punchy flavours, Bouzy Rouge makes the perfect venue for a great night out.

...Unsure how it would be presented we thought we were safe ordering two choices from the tapas menu, Ceviche, generally not a large dish. This was a decent size, it was also a nice surprise, it was fresh and light, and very different from the plain japanese raw fish we had tasted in the past. It wasn’t spicy but there was a nice little kick, certainly not a boring tomato sauce! A great little starter dish.

In between the clearance stores and take away shops on Bridge road is a hidden gem; The Bouzy Rouge. To call this establishment just a pub with good food is an understatement. As soon as you enter you know that you’re in for a great night. The décor is interesting, giving off a cosy, old world vibe. The only one negative is that my partner found it hard to sit comfortably at the table as he is very tall. The menu has some interesting dishes and they specialise in a variety of tapas, which is great for sharing. I decided to have the beef cheek which was cooked to perfection, and my partner had the suckling pig, which was delicious. There is a great wine list which compliments their food…I

Bouzy Rouge was overall satisfying, although a few of the dishes fell below the mark a bit considering what they charged for them. (In no way can you justify charging $20 for four churros…). If you have money to burn though, (or if work is paying, tee hee!) it’s worth paying a visit.

The food is wonderful and complemented with a great drinks selection. It's 7pm and we've hit the last venue of our mini pub crawl. Fenix ticked, The Royston ticked, The Grand canned (who chose that out of the way venue…) and now onto Bouzy Rouge for some drinks and then some well earned dinner. Remind me never to delegate my choice of drinks to my mates again… I needed to break the seal and what do I find when I get back to the bar? A tequila shot. Lick, sip, suck… bring it on. This s

We actually had a very good experience at Bouzy Rouge with the full-priced bill for four people coming to $75 a head. When you consider the quality of the food and wine then that’s a very reasonable price. My only disappointment was with the paella as I thought that if a predominantly Spanish restaurant was going to get anything right, it would be this dish. Still the quirky décor and the professional service with the food made for sharing and extensive wine list means that I’m likely to return with a group of friends for an enjoyable dinner out.

As part of this year's Melbourne Food and wine festival. A Global Gathering is all out foodie event which is spread out all over Bridge Road. From free food to $5-$10 tasting plates there is something to please everyone. Even the pickiest of eaters. There was free face painting for the kids. My four stamps Free popcorn Free face painting It is only a short tram ride away from the city. At the Information hubs we collected our passports and stamp form and off we went. If you got four stamps like we did then you would be in the running to win a SMEG kitchen pack from Harvey Norman, which leads us to our first stop for free food. 1) Harvey Norman Harvey Norman offered free chippolatas and tastings of their stir fry. We couldn't stay long but they did offer free cooking classes and the bake off at 12pm. I really loved that sweetness in the stir fry and the onions. The sales rep from SMEG said it was 4 mins to make the stir fry and it worked a treat.

That may in fact be part of the charm - straddling both gastro pub and restaurant styles.

I really enjoyed our trip to Bouzy Rouge. There was a great selection of starters to choose from, and the ones we had were great. The main course too was mouth wateringly good. The only disappointment was the dessert, so perhaps next time I will go with the chocolate fondant.

There were many vegetarian tapas on offer but only one main: a mouth-watering gorgonzola tortellini with salted ricotta, sage, poached pear and walnuts. The pasta was fresh and moist with brown butter. The sweetness of the pear was delightful against the gorgonzola.

Give it a go. The tapas and paella are not bad but not mind blowing. Prices are pretty reasonable and service not bad.

I didn't expect that!!. The dining room hidden at the back of the Bouzy Rouge is a great surprise. Warm and intimate; it was a really great surprise. We ate a lot of food here yesterday and it was generally very good! King Fish ceviche was amazing, Fried calamari was succulent and oily (in a good way), Spanish meatballs were OK and grilled prawns (special) were just OK - a little unadventurous in terms of flavour. Also had were the Papas Bravas (not my thing) but the others enjoyed it. <br/><br/>Attentive service all round, particularly excellent service from one waitress who was warm and friendly. The other waitress was just going through the motions; "would you like sparkling water" were her first words the moment we sat down. "Hello, how are you?" are the words I like to hear first up. Simple things matter. <br/><br/>Moving onto the "main". We shared the slow roasted lamb shoulder. Wow!! The accompanying peas with onions were almost as good. Yum! The protein fell off the bone simply with a spoon and fork, this was a delight! <br/><br/>Excellent wine and glasses and good size tables. Good atmosphere. Recommended for most occasions. Business lunch, family meal, special occasion.

Finally got around to writing a review for this wonderful place! Went for Christmas Eve Dinner, and many other times in the past and I cannot recommend it enough. It's quirky, modern European aesthetics, scrumptious fine food and perfect service makes this the true jewel of Bridge Road. Along with being one of the best Tapas experiences in Melbourne, it's a true gem. Outstanding in every way.

Great!. I had lunch a this great place Wednesday this week. Both service and food was amazing. I will definitely be back. I Highly recommend Bouzy Rouge to anyone!

Tapas good... Mains disappointing and service rude. This place promises a lot but fails to deliver. The tapas were good, tasty and well prepared, but the main courses were a blatant rip off. The duck cassoulet was some duck breast sitting on some canned beans, an insult to the authentic dish. The veggie paella was tasteless and given they charge $30 for a small plate of rice and a few beans, again it was just insulting. We had churros for dessert which were chewy and not fresh and ridiculously priced at around $12 a serve.<br/>To top that off the music was so loud, we could not talk without shouting, which is fine for a bar but not for dining. <br/>The wait staff were condescendingly fake friendly and in such a rush they didn't wait to listen to our order, so no one got coffee. <br/>All round disappointing experience for quite a lot of money. <br/>Don't insult your customers by thinking you can serve expensive crap and get away with it.

Tapas good, main iffy. I love this place. I love the atmosphere and the people that work there. Everyone is so friendly and I really want to love it more. I have been here a couple of times and both times the tapas have been amazing but the paella was average and the slow cooked lamb was overdone in most parts which left it dry and therefore chewy. A real shame and we didn't eat that much of it and we were constantly searching for a soft moist bit. The desert was lovely, the chocolate mousse was divine the crema Catalana was delicious but too big ( not a bad thing) with a bit too much sugar. The prices are good here and like I said I want so much to love it and come back but only for the raciones.

Delicious food , good service .<br/>You get what you pay for .. <br/>Impressed .

Great. We went for Sunday lunch with 2 teenagers. We all loved our meals:- the Sunday Paella special, the Calamari and the Beetroot and Pumpkin salad. Prices were reasonable and atmosphere was cosy and the decor was eclectic. There were a few larger family groups there at the same time but it wasn't too noisy.

Crema catalana! Will be back just for that. My background is Spanish and I think a lot of Australians don't quite understand that tapas are traditionally salty, I grew up on salty and garlicky food, it grows on you :) and I read someone complaining about a burnt paella. Really? Read up one what a paella should be. Hint: it's a burnt bottom. Lamb shoulder was amazing! And the courtyard was beautiful, hope to eat outside again in summer

Not Impressed. This restaurant must be doing well... because despite 2 emails to request a booking for 40 people for a Saturday lunch..no response. Very Unprofessional and you have lost a customer

Way the best raciones I have had! Had the clams, chorizo and prawns. AMAZING! Chimay on tap ( not found everywhere). Can't wait to get back here.

We went last night, a table of 5 people. We loved the decor and the welcome from the staff. We ordered patatas bravas, pâté, calamari and croquet as to start- all amazing and delicious. For mains we had a delicious slow cooked lamb special that was really impressive. I thoroughly recommend this venue for the fine food and excellent staff.

We've become regulars here... great menu, reasonable prices and obliging staff. The Sunday paella deal is brilliant value for money ... Fingers crossed that this place never changes .

Once again super food. We have been here more than two times and still the food is great. Last time it was too many people there and unfortunately we waiting for the main at least an hour but it was worth to wait. <br/>Yes, we will be back.

This is the worst restaurant I've ever been too!! Il start by saying visually it is quite eccentric and had a strange ambience . We ordered the fish , the calamari and the patatas bravas . The fish was overly salty with a equally salty sauce after only a few bites leaving you sick as hell. The calamari was chewy and had some kind of sweet jet black sauce drizzled on top . Couldn't stomach more than one bite . Last and most disgustingly the potatoes yet another sweet sauce and the taste of what seemed like feces lingering in my mouth afterwards ! The price was offensive for such small servings and crap food .

Sunday lunch yesterday was fantastic. The service, attention to detail, and ultimately the food were outstanding.

Amazing food and fantastic atmosphere. Loved it!

Great service and food!. From the first email contact to the last drink today the experience was excellent! A shared menu to celebrate a birthday was easily accommodated and every dish - from the chilli prawns, to the paella and the churros was enjoyed by everyone in our group. Thanks for making this birthday memorable!

Crackle Me Crackle!. Suckling pig, absolutely mind blowing! Duck liver parfait, could have eaten the whole jar with a spoon, meltingly delicious! Cosy vibe, friendly staff and tasty affordable wine choices. Tapas tapas and tapas, every item I've ever eaten here perfectly tasty!

The 12 hour slow cooked lamb is AMAZING!!! The atmosphere here is lovely and relaxed.. The wait staff are fantastic.. A++++++

Another great night with friends i have never been disappointed! Good food affordable wine list

Great!. Went there with my husband recently and LOVED our meals. The duck risotto was divine! Great atmosphere and good service. Definitely going back.

Great but Disappointing. I went there with a group unfortunately 5 people didn't turn up or cancelled on the day. We had a great time in the room upstairs, the food was good, we all had the lunch special at $25 for a main and a glass of wine, and everything was going well, we were planning coming back and organising more meetings there, that was until we were paying the bill. It was then we found out that we should have had a $ minimum charge as we did not have enough people, this made us feel guilty and embarrassed because we did not spend enough money. We certainly can't go there again which is a shame as we loved the venue and the food was great.
