So beautiful cafe in Richmond. Both coffee and food are amazing. Staff was kind, really perfect place!

We ventured out of our suburb to try new brunch places and were pleasantly surprised by the food here. We both had the 15th century eggs, and absolutely loved the dish! The staff were super helpful and friendly as well. Will definitely come back šŸ˜Š

We used to come to this place and used to be amazing we havenā€™t been there for awhile and we came here on Sunday just for good old memories they have change the menu to very simple standard breakfast, we ordered the coffees and they were cold and and I couldnā€™t be bothered to return them I just wanted to have a breakfast, and they removed the favourite breakfast out of the menu which was a Greek breakfast and the granola was very standard thing that you could make in your own apartment even if you have no kitchen , what we loved about The granola was so much soul put into it presentation with flowers but this time around came out very plain and no soul and no flavourā€¦ šŸ˜©šŸ„ŗšŸ˜¢

The interior fitout is exactly the type of environment I like but the food missed the mark a bit... I had the beef brisket on the chopping board and it had some tomato paste thing dumped all over it (on a slice of toast). Have a look at the pics and you'll see what I mean. Other friends had Californian salad, pasta, poke and toasties and I tasted some of the other stuff and out of the bunch I think the toastie was the best which is not that great when you have kitchen prepped food coming up second best competing with a grill thing you can make at home. The staff seemed ok in terms of fatigue and friendliness and the food got to our table in a reasonable time frame. Checkout the pics

Very popular cafe in Richmond that never disappoints. Service is always quick and staff are very friendly. They have a large courtyard with lots of seating as well as tables inside. Be sure to get there early especially on weekends. Highly recommend the chilli scrambled eggs as well as the pancakes, always delicious!

I went here a week ago with my sister for brunch and I have to say, it was a beautiful experience. Really enjoyed the 15th Century Cilbir Eggs that I ordered, with extra sujuk on the side. I asked if the sujuk was halal and it was. My sister ordered the the Tiramisu Buttermilk Pancake Stack which was gorgeously presented and so fluffy. The jam in the middle was a sweet surprise. The prana chai was beautifully made and strong, just like I had requested. The iced chocolate my sister ordered was creamy, chocolatey and just perfect! I recommend this place if youā€™re looking to have a good brunch and catch up with friends.

Great breakfast place. If you like pancakes, this is your place. They look fantastic and are yummy. The Avocado toast is also great, but I was hoping for a bit more flavour. The staff is nice and quick and the whole location looks inviting. An overall good experience and therefore I can recommend this breakfast place.

Not normally one to jump on and bang on but this place is the bomb diggity. Thought it may have been a pure fluke the first couple of times I paid a visit as not only was the food an answer for my prayers for my too often than not hangover, but the coffee is probably one of the best I've had around the Richmond (richwhhhaaaa, richMOND) burbs. On top of all that (cool ya jets - I'm not finished yet) the staff are awesome. I'll admit I'm a cafe slurry and in the industry - can't help but nitpick sometimes (admit it we all do it) but these guys do make you feel welcome and like your at home. The good vibes from the team filter down to the customers. I reckon they'd be a good bunch to have a beer or ten with. This is why I rate it in my top three. All because of the team. They could serve me dirt on toast and I'd be happy. Alright rant done, See ya next time gang :)

Such an amazing venue, the staff are so kind and caring and Henry ļæ½ well he just makes this place extra special. The food you canā€™t go wrong with anything I think Iā€™ve tried it all. Best scrambled eggs in Melbourne or for lunch the I canā€™t go past the Poke Bowl ļæ½ or super salad. If you havnā€™t been definitely give it a crack. It quickly became my regular and I live 15min bike ride away.

The best place to have breakfast . Food is out of the world. Also the staff and owner our the most friendliest. Excellent service I would rate the best in Melbourne
Laura L Salis Gabbiani
Great place for lunch (food delish and fresh) and the chai latte (with leaves) was absolutely a stunner :) highly recommend

Have been here twice now and this time was even better than the last. Brought my mum here again for motherā€™s day. We had the greek board and the eggs royale. Super yummy. Thanks to one of the awesome guys who works there for the recommendation. Can highly recommend their prana chai and their coffee. Staff are lovely and attentive without it being over the top. Will definitely be coming back as a regular. Thanks!
Amanda Di Giglio
Absolutely loved breakfast here. We had the pancakes and the eggs benedict. The pancakes were amazing!! Literally the best I've ever had. They came out looking so amazing and tasted awesome too. Same with the eggs bene. This breakfast will be hard to beat :)

Have been a couple of times over the past two years - breakfast this time but quite as good as the previous times - coffee was pretty average this time so much so I left half a cup and thought it strange the wait staff didn't enquire why - food was good - the place still buzzing busy which is good to see

Food was amazing..and the staff was excellent ... salmon, egg and spreads was yummy... Latte was little bit cold but no complaints šŸ˜…

Awesome place, great food + really good people on staff

Nice space, nice staff and amazing food. Best eggs benedict I've ever had.

Great food that came out quick and we loved the mint & lemon slushies! Service was also very friendly and welcoming & the decor is cute tooļæ½

Service was friendly and efficient, even though they were busy. Peanut butter and choc chip pancakes were delicious. Great plate presentation. Reasonable prices. Will go again.

I had brunch there on the second day of a 3 week holiday in Australia . The buttermilk stack was delicious and the service was great. After a horrible dinner n my hotel the nigh before it gave me high hopes on how the rest of the vacation was going to taste.

Went for brunch on a mid Saturday morning. Ordered smashed Avo with Vegemite sauce- yummo! Coffee was great too. Staff very friendly and chilled.

Thought id support a local business and go buy coffee but instead was refused service by the blonde girl at the front because I wasn't wearing a mask as I have a medival exemption and suffer from anxiety. disgusting behaviour and definitely wont be returning.
Rach
Friendly staff. Really delicious chilli scrambled eggs. Taking walk ins at the moment. Recommend going early so you donā€™t have to wait. Loved it and will definitely be back.

My favorite was the Pan Fried Gnocchi with šŸŽƒpumpkin purĆ©e, sage, šŸŒ°toasted almonds, peas, šŸ§€ricotta salata stuffed zucchini flower.

The šŸ„‘Smashed Avo was super interesting, with poached bean hummus, šŸ–¤walnut black sesame dukkah, and šŸ™squid ink pickled daikon radish.

The Pancake Stack was really heavy though. It was sweet and quite dry, couldnā€™t eat so much of it.

Both food and coffee at Pillar of salt really impressed us. For savoury dishes, we had the red chilli scrambled eggs and eggs royale. The chill scrambled was is my all time favourite brekky and they definitely nailed it. The most memorable dish has got to be the beachy pancake stack. It looks so amazing and was really good. It was a perfect finish for our brunch.

The staff was attentive and lovely too. Recommend this place!

I had the pleasure of having a meal at Pillar of Salt, a hip venue where youā€™re guaranteed to find something unforgettable. I had the beachy pancakes which looked fantastic if not a little exotic. There was cream cheese stuffed inside the cone which was used to spread onto the pancakes to balance out the blueberry sauce and chocolate. The only fault I can place is that the portion size became slightly overwhelming by the end, but it was a very good meal nonetheless and I highly recommend it for anyone who hasnā€™t been there before.
CJ
The food was ok and the staff were fine. The coffee wasnā€™t the best and they have a sneaky weekend surcharge.
FoodieInMel
Lovely place, been here few times, the menu was quite interesting, food was pretty nice, coffee was ok, love their daily juice, the service was friendly and nice.

Pillar of Salt seems to be a pretty popular brunch spot in Richmond. I thought it was good, I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but nothing blew me away compared to my favourite brunch places in Melbourne.Ā

I decided to go for something different so I ordered the 15th Century Cilbir Eggs. Basically this consisted of roasted garlic & herb labne, smoked paprika burnt butter, turkish bread and I opted to get sujuk also. I'm glad that I got the sujuk, as I would have found the dish slightly boring otherwise. They also forgot to bring it, so I had to wait an extra 5 mins for the sujuk in a seperate bowl.Ā

We went there after lunch time and it sort of seemed like the staff weren't that attentive anymore after their super busy morning. But they were still nice and friendly.Ā

Overall, I'd go back, but probably not in any rush.

How about instead of putting ā€œFRESHLY SQUEEZED JUICEā€ on your menu, put juice and half the price if youā€™re going to just pour me out a plastic cup of pre bought juice and charge $8!! Ridiculous, what a con cafe.

I was craving for some greek food and I wanted to try something different and something new from my usual hummus and pita so I went for Pillar of Saltā€™s Greek Board and it was phenomenal!

FOOD & COFFEE: I ordered the ā€˜Greek Boardā€™ because alot of the things that were on it were food Iā€™ve always wanted to try from Greek restaurants but never wanted to order full portions. This Greek Board is fabulous for people who want a bit of everything and can I just say the Loukaniko is the best sausage Iā€™ve ever had in my entire life? Its so much better than chorizo because it has the texture of a sausage which is softer but the flavour is one that matches chorizo which has a hint of spice. The pita was super soft and amazing with the dips! I never tried taramasalata and was always curious and now that Iā€™ve tried it, I can say it ruined me šŸ¤£ The scrambled eggs were done really well as well and I liked how it wasnā€™t overly seasoned so the other flavours balance it! The saganaki was kinda tough and reminded me of halloumi but less milky. I also ordered a soy latte and it was good! It did however have a bitter bite! But the soy went really well with it!

SERVICE: Service is really pleasant and friendly! They were really attentive and it was service with a smile! Also the food was served really fast which i luuuved!

Pillar of Salt is one of Richmondā€™s very best and I can tell why! Itā€™s bustling and full of people and it gives the CLASSIC cafe vibe which I love! The food selection is also so lovely, catering to savoury and sweet! Iā€™ll definitely be returning šŸ„°

Delicious food, extensive menu, great service and decor too. The coffee was amazing and scrambled eggs melted in your mouth! Donā€™t be surprised if you have to wait for a table because this is one of those cafes in high demand!!

Amazing service, food and coffee. I had the Royale eggs and every bite was delicious, must try if you love salmon or Eggs Benedict! Very friendly and attentive staff and fast service. Highly recommend!

Oh mamma, @pillarofsaltcafe knows how to Egg Benedict. Poached eggs with shredded Otway Cape Ham Hock covered in Hollandaise sauce... Okay stop it, your drooling all over the floor! Was glad, my sister chose to go here on my arrival back into melbourne. Get round it

šŸ”ø Pan fried Portuguese Sardines šŸ”øon toast w. Housemade ketchup, pickled red onions, truss cherry tomatoes, crispy lillyput capers and preserved lemon. $16.50 I give this dish a 9/10, well thought through meal, with bursting flavours all over the dish! The ketchup went really well with the sardines and those cherry tomatoes were acidic and well cooked (almost my fav thing on the plate ;). Left Feeling full and satisfied! Well done @pillarofsaltcafe āœ”ļø

Love this place. Delicious fresh food and awesome service. I had the Californian Super Salad. Very colourful and satisfying. You can rely on this place for a quality experience.

Like many people, I have heard of Pillar of Salt many times and finally had the chance to check the place out on the weekend.

šŸ”†LOCATIONšŸ”†
Pillar of Salt is located on Church Street between Swan Street and Alexander Avenue.
The cafe is a grey building on the corner Willis Street.
There are some seats outside, spacious area inside and also an enclosed covered back area as well. Surprisingly even though from the outside the premise looks small, there is actually quite a lot of space.

šŸ”†SERVICEšŸ”†
Very friendly and laid back customer service. The vibe at Pillar of Salt is very relaxing.
We were seated at the front bench on the right hand side close to the front entry as there were no tables available, however the waitress was very kind to move us as soon as table was free which was great!

šŸ”†MENU/PRICEšŸ”†

We ordered the following:Ā

Batch Brew Coffee
The Elvis Smoothie - Banana, Peanut Butter, Cinnamon, Cacao Nibs, Coconut Milk, $10.00

Greek Board - sliced Loukaniko, Saganaki, Egg, Pillar's Greek Salad, Taramasalata, Tzatziki, Pita Dippers, $19.00

Eggs Royale - House woodchip and tea smoked Salmon, Dill Hollandaise, Beetroot Picked Baby Corn, Shallot Furikake, Turkish Bread on a bed of Kipfler Potato, $20.00

Chips with smoked paprika Salt, $9.00

šŸ”†VERDICTšŸ”†

The reason why there is high raves about Pillar of Salt is their menu. It is different and unique but has great flavours! I really enjoyed my Eggs Royale and I was surprised that there were potatoes as well. Yummy! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Slight disappintment is The Elvis Smooth, I think there was just way too much Cacao in the drink which made it bitter and the overall drink was not that enjoyable.

A friend said we had to try this so we choofed off and gave it a go with a hangover and hungry. Thank you Pillar of Salt - not only was it a great dining experience but helped with the hangover. Do like my chai and nice to see that this wasn't the dreadful powder type but instead loose leaf. A cliche but went for the smashed avo and it was great. Bread wasn't soggy from the topping and the portion size was right. Some cafes overserve and it's just not possible to eat it all. Everything came out quickly and staff were just so sweet and attentive. Would've taken photos but too focussed on eating.

Takeaway available. Dietaries catered for.

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible. Reasonable parking.

My favourite brunch place in Richmond!! Absolutely beautiful presentation of house made granola with delicious banana puree! Donā€™t be fooled by the small pot look, its still VERY filling! I felt healthy instantly! Like all my cheat meals from easter holidays has been cleansed from this one brunch!

Its also quite affordable despite 15% easter holiday surchargešŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I know I've been here before so I have no idea why I didn't review it then but my house made granola was amazing. The service is great and the venue is cute. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been!

I have wanted to visit Pillar of Salt for so long and I'm very glad I finally made the journey to this fabulous cafe!Ā

I started my meal with a turmeric latte - the best i've ever had. I then got the "Green Health Bowl" which was surprisingly flavoursome. It could have been a little more filling, but I especially loved the flavour of the sautƩed kale.

The food was ok. I ordered the labne with poached eggs. I just felt the combination was just too much for my palate. Generous portions. Chips is amazing. The only thing i wish they'd stop doing is charge weekend surcharges.
Leda Lee
Highly recommend their fresh baked muffins. Their blueberry chocolate muffins are not too sweet and heavy. I tried their soy latte before but it was too foamy..almost half the cup was froth.
Quince And Cheese
Been meaning to come here for a while. Still haven't had food but did manage to try a coffee, which was just okay. Taste was good but temperature was too cool, meaning I downed it in about a second. Milk froth also left something to be desired. The ambiance is really nice though. Here's hoping a second visit for food plus drinks is better.
Sinfulorganiccook
You'll never go wrong with anything here. Service is always prompt, coffee is good and food always has interesting combinations that keep things interesting. Place can get a tad noisy but that's part of the vibe.

One thing I like about this cafe is it closes at the slightly later time of 5. Sometimes work can go on till late afternoon and so this place is always a good brunch food saviour later in the day.

The food was so so tasty here. I went with a couple friends. I had the barramundi (was my first time trying) and I loved it, seemed to be perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Californian salad and eggs on toast with some sides.

Food was ace, staff were friendly. Would definitely go back. 9/10

We were on a stroll checking out furniture stores and after seeing my 600th lounge I needed a wine. Stat!

Theyā€™ve got great little seats around the side in the full sun which was great on a slightly cooler day and if you love dogs this is the place to be!

We had a delicious wine and at $45 a bottle itā€™s higher priced for a cafe but it was a good bottle. The lamination we had was a bit of a healthy style one; the little one was expecting chocolate but overall it was a lovely spot to sit, people and dog watch!

Our waitress was amazing. What a beautiful energy she had.

Iā€™ll be back to face brunch next week as even at 2pm on a Wednesday it was packed!
CultureClash
Had the Tiger prawn Linguini + a Hulk smoothie. Linguini made me sniffle due to its pungency and it was a bit too oily for my liking but it was very rich in flavour and the prawns were cooked perfectly.

I giving this a one star based on the fact that I there was a 10% surcharge to eat here on the weekend !!!
The worst part was that I wasnā€™t even informed there was a surcharge on weekends (who even charges a surcharge to eat at a cafe on a Saturday ?!). If you want to put a surcharge, just increase your prices on the menu and incorporate it that way instead of tricking your customers. Will not ever eat here again. Food was 3.5/5
Ethan Oxenham
My kind of place!! You get good value for money here. The food comes in big portions, have great flavor combinations and we are all balanced. Pillar of salt. Always an amazing breakfast. Best chilli scrambled in Melbourne. Despite always being so busy the food is very quick. Highly recommen

Very satisfied with my food here!Ā The eggs, bacon, sourdough and other components were lovely. The others enjoyed their dishes too. Service was good too. Recommended, A sound option. There selection of lovely cakes and sandwiches which looked great. This is must visit if you're in the area.

Heard of this place and thought of trying it out. The wait for a table wasnā€™t too bad, we didnā€™t mind the communal table and got seated straight away.

The wait time to get a coffee took far too long especially given how many baristas they had. Was happy to wait for the food but would have expected the coffee to come quicker.

The coffee was good, good quality and well made. The food was subpar, the chilli scrambled eggs seemed like the popular choice, they were nice but nothing special. The beef brisket item was covered in this sweet tomato sauce that was far too sweet and way too much provided. The beef itself was nice but was ruined by the sauce. The bread also became drenched so not very enjoyable.
Sarah Quek
Iā€™ve been to many brunch cafes in Melbourne in my 3 years of staying in this beautiful city and Pillar of Salt is my favorite! Ordered the duck roti, signature buttermilk hot cakes, Pork brisket and sea salt hot chocolate!
Jasmine
Packed full of people during weekend brunch and absolutely delicious.Ā

Ordered:
šŸ„š Eggs Royale: Woodchip and tea house smoke salmon, asian mushrooms, white kimchi hollandaise, shichimi pepper & roasted laver (seaweed) on toast ($20.00)
Prana Chai: Leaf chai brewed with soy ($6.00)

Review:
So for two pieces of poached egg on one flat toasted bread, you'd think it wouldn't be enough food. However, add that to the rich combination of smoked salmon (yum), and the intricate subtle savoury umami pecks from the roasted seaweed and the cheesy flavoured hollandaise and you have yourself a winning dish. I can see why this Eggs Royale dish has been so favoured on Instagram!

With the option of sitting outside, it was really awesome for Pillar of Salt having leash-friendly hooks outside their store. This small attention and consideration to detail with their clientele really encourages Pillar of Salt to stand out amongst the brunch competition in Richmond.
I would definitely consider coming back to try some of their new creations!
Will Brown
Basing this review off their shocking cold brew. Incredibly sour. Would expect a better quality brew considering it cost $6. Most likely the age of the brew or the bean but would highly recommend the baristas sample what they are making.

FAST Food Review

Coffee is always perfect here. Tried the Watermelon Steak Salad this time and it was pretty unique. Ambience is always comfy here whichever section you are seated in. Service always friendly and prompt. A regular stop whenever Iā€™m in Richmond.

Food: 3.5/5
Ambience: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Total: 12/5

We stopped by POS after being referred by a friend and we werenā€™t disappointed. We ordered the cauliflower steak and the duck with roti. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised. The duck and roti especially was well cooked and really delicious. The fresh juices were very refreshing too! All in all, a great meal!

The kind of eatery that makes me consider the move to Melbourne. Pillar of Saltā€™s menu is dotted with influences from around the world where Japanese matcha pancakes and eggs with Turkish sausage mingle with a Greek breakfast board, Korean bibimbap, Italian linguine and Malaysian duck roti. Confused? Perhaps. Brilliant? Absolutely! Paired with friendly service and a warm, homely atmosphere, the dishes we sampled were

Nice coffee specially the pour over !! Excellent customer service !! Really good ambience and atmosphere!!!!But when it come to food really disappointed i oredered15 th century cilbir eggs all i can see was plate covered with labna which was really overpowering with 2 poached eggs and 3 thin turkish bread stick was really bland and overpriced ......

P.S. CHARGING 10% FOR WEEKENDS THATS A MAJOR TURNOFF.....would reccomend this place.......its ok for charging on public holiday

Pillar of Salt in Richmond. So far the best brunch cafe I had in recent couple months. Yes I love the Asian fusion brunch and they mix the taste salty with sweet. I love the smoked duck breast roti wrap. Pickled onions rings are great and often see in the Vietnamese noodle soup. Lovely ambience and friendly staff with good service. Nothing can complain but will come back :)
Vanessa
You get good value for money here - where the food comes in big portions, have great flavour combinations and are well balanced overall. Not to mention, the presentation is commendable. Our food and drinks came out soon after we ordered, which was awesome. My only qualm was that some staff members werenā€™t very welcoming at the beginning. When we entered in the front, it took a while for staff to acknowledge us even though we locked eyes a few times. We awkwardly stood at the ā€˜please wait here to be seatedā€™ sign. A simple ā€helloā€ or ā€œweā€™ll get to you soonā€ is all it takes to make a good first impression. Anyway, that aside, our experience was good towards the end. ** Note: Thereā€™s a 10% surcharge on weekends.

I love my shakes and smoothie and more then happy to pay for top quality. I paid $12 for this little smoothie and it didnā€™t even taste good! Honestly guys a cup of coffee is bigger

We were craving brunch at about 3pm on a Saturday but everywhere you asked the kitchen closed at 3pm. But i found this place that closed a little later at 5, with the kitchen still opened at 4:30, and I really like this place. It was a small local restaurant. I didnā€™t expect too much but I was wowed by the food.
Everything tastes amazing. We got the tiger prawn pasta and beef brisket. Both were very good.

The pasta was cooked well, the prawns were so fresh and I was surprised how many there were!
The beef brisket was tender and well flavoured. We also got a side of chips that were fresh, hot, and delicious. There is nothing bad I can say about this place.

Eating Away Melbourne
Very nice spot with a beautiful and relaxing back yard area. Ordered a fish salad and a pasta. They were both lovely but nothing outstanding. Coffee was nice, ice chocolate was a bit average. Service was attentive which is always a add on!

I absolutely loved the food and coffee here. I hate that I needed to pinpoint this out that the waitress guided us for seat who was deliberately rude to us. I was totally in shock and speechless.

When I walked in the door , the cafe was busy, she came to us . I asked her in a polite way that if they have a seat for two? She said that three times ā€˜ How are you ?ā€™ To me ,for three times and each time she strengthened tone to each sentence! And also choose to ignore my question too , until I answered her question first. It felt unwelcome and unfriendly. I will chose not to go back again because of the service experience.
Debby Palti
Very busy and very friendly place. I had their muesli dish which was amazing and also one of the best hot chocolates around. It had a bit of spice and was not hindered by a sweetness which I loved. We also ordered a breakfast platter that was Greek in essence and had a bit of egg, halumi cheese, a sausage, and other stuff. I didnā€™t as Iā€™m a vegetarian but my other half loved it. Service was efficient, quick and friendly. Definitely a place to go again.
Bridget
Pillar of salt. Always an amazing breakfast. Best chilli scrambled in Melbourne. Despite always being so busy the food is very quick. Highly recommend

Came here on a Sunday noon. Service was quick and the waitresses were lovely. Had long black and the coffee was brewed perfectly. Am not that impressed with what I ordered which I canā€™t complain because itā€™s just poached eggs on Rustica sourdough with extra bacon on the side. I will come back to give their hot cakes a go and until then Iā€™ll hold my verdict. Do note that they have 10% extra surcharge on weekends and the price is slightly pricey.

My friend told me about this place because she thought i would appreciate their house made granola, which comes as a pot plant hahah!! My friends sure know me, of course i wanna eat granola as a pot plant!! And wow, it looks so good! And pour that red stuff in and taste the magic!! Mmmm delish!! And seems healthy too! I also had a mocha coffee, it was yummmm. And a lamington and a gingerbread friend, yum too!! I like this cafe!! The menu seems really creative and the staff are lovely :)
Alex Philipatos
Really enjoyed the toast here although they serve minimal peanut butter and you have to ask for more. Only 1 piece of bread for 2 poached eggs on toast is pricey - they charge extra for 2 slices.
Service not so friendly. Charged us twice for almond milk. Worth noting - 10% surcharge every weekend which they donā€™t mention
Ribouboule
Amazing food - very flavorful and fresh, we had the duck wrap and the winter salad. The staff uber friendly and even the desserts (carrot cake and lamington) were extremely delicious and moist - definitely be back and have more!
Christine Le
Very satisfied with our food! Received a seat not very long after of waiting for around 5-8 minutes without a booking. Would definitely recommend this place for big breakfast eaters and are leaning towards the more savoury side of breakfast
Steph
Really great coffee and amazing food
Dog friendly towards the back and has heaps of room not much of a wait on weekend high peak times. Only issue is finding parking nearby if youā€™re driving
Mai T Tran
I incline to rate this restaurant 3.5. Our group went there on a Sunday for brunch. The place was packed with people, we had to wait for 30ā€™ to get a table. The food were all good, well balanced and hit the table looking beautiful.
Jamie
Beautiful little cafe with a lovely atmosphere and decor. Had heard many good things about this place, and could find no major fault with the experience here aside from slightly below-average service despite it not being that busy. We luckily did not have to wait for a table on the day we went. Food was flavourful and delicious, I loved the potato gnocchi dish I had and drinks were ok.
Priscilla
The red chilli scrambled eggs were light and fluffy but not that spicy. The portions were smaller than anticipated but were quite filling in the end. The staff were friendly and very accommodating.
Little Bit Of Everything
Took a friend here for his birthday brunch in 2017. Located on Church street it gets super busy. We had to wait 15 minutes before we got our table considering it was midweek. Excellent service customer service. I ordered their Pan Fried Portugese Sardines on Toast which was made to perfection and presented well. Pretty sure they dont take bookings so if you are planing to go on a weekend be prepared for long waits.
Decent Feed
Excellent food but terrible service. If not for the poor service, I probably would have rated this cafe a lot higher than 3/5, however this was just not the case.
When we first walked into the cafe, none of the staff even batted an eye at us, and instead walked right past us. After waiting for a few minutes, I asked the lady at the front counter for a table, to which she impatiently told me to wait by the door. I couldnā€™t quite comprehend this as there were clearly a number of tables that were empty. We proceeded to wait by the door for another 15 mins, to which within that timeframe 2 lots of customers that came in after us got seated almost immediately, within a few minutes. Finally after asking the lady at the front counter again, and waiting another 5 minutes, we got a seat in the courtyard area. Not a great start to our brunch experience to say the least.
The food was thankfully much better than the level of service we received. We ordered the Grilled Barramundi Burger from the lunch menu and the lamb souvlaki sliders from their specials menu. Everything was superb! The Grilled Barramundi Burger came with a side of sauce that very much reminded me of the Peking duck sauce used at Asian restaurants- delicious!! The brioche bun was toasted and soft, and just lovely with the Grilled Barramundi. Not to mention, the lamb meat was succulent in the sliders and bursting of flavour.

Stopped in for a takeaway coffee and a gingerbread friend. Silky smooth, robust coffee. My gingerbread friend was delightful too. I hear they do great brunches as well.

Great place. Another one. An effortless 4.2. Just the place to be on a cool sunny Melbourne day. Just the place to show a bit of Melbourneā€™s food scene to an overseas guest. We enjoyed everything we tried. Very hard to fault it. A good brekkie. The eggs, bacon, sourdough and other components were lovely. The others enjoyed their dishes too. Service was good too. Recommended, A sound option.

I have been to a few brunch places, and I honestly just expected this place to be like all others. But it really wasnā€™t. I LOVED the Greek board. So good, with so many elements, all tasting so good. My friend got the red chilli scrambled eggs, which were good, but not amazing.
The service was good as well. Overall, a good meal.

This place has definitely earned itā€™s good rating. Service was flawless. We sat out the back in a cute booth and were served immediately despite it being a busy Sunday morning. Coffee was good and all of our meals were tasty, well presented and reasonably priced (for a Melbourne cafe). Highly recommend the cilbir eggs and pancakes for the sweet toothā€™s out there!

It has been some time since I visited Pillar Of Salt, my partner and I decided to have a quick breaky while in the area.Ā We were there fairly early so getting a seat was no problem (what a relief!).Ā

My latte was full bodied, beautifully tasting while my partner enjoyed his chai latte. We both ordered the black porridge, everything about this dish was gorgeous.Ā There was a selection of lovely cakes and sandwiches which looked great.

This is a must visit should you be in the area

I made the journey! A solid 25 minutes of driving from the 'burbs of South East, and I arrived to try out Pillar of Salts innovative menu. I was keen to try out this place after reviewing countless stock standard brunch menus when I glanced over dragon froodle salad and the Greek board. Bit bummed to see that they got rid of the froodle salad but boy, was I going to try this Greek board! Excellent innovation guys! The dish was all the best parts of Greek cuisine that one would expect of a good entree set with a bit of scrambled egg for breakfast measure. Everything was super tasty, particularly the fresh dips and pita bread combo. Loukaniko (pork sausage) and saganaki was super soft and delicious. I was definitely well fed, let's say that (okay, I rolled outta there).
I hope Pillar of Salt keep innovating and bringing fresh ideas to the brunch scene - it will continue to make the hangry trip out worth it.

Went here for a meeting. Had a table out the back, which was lovely. Staff was very nice. Coffee was good. Food came very (!) quick. Had the smashed avo, which had lots of parts and was very tasty. If anything I would say the toasted bread was a bit too hard and crusty, would prefer nice freshly baked bread instead.

Ordered chilli scrambled egg and beef brisket. The portion were really generous at such a reasonable price. I get it why thereā€™s such a long queue waiting outside on early Sunday morning. Love it!

One of the best breakfasts I have had in Melbourne! Visited here on the way to work (next time I'll make sure I'm not rushed), and left wanting to return asap. I had the granola and it was absolutely amazing. The right amount of crunch, the mango lassi, the yuzu coyo - YUM!!! Staff were friendly, and service was quick. All in all very happy.

A somewhat institutional down church street that has been churning out good coffee and brunch for over 10 years. has a really relaxed vibe and a great brunch menu. We ate the pancake stack and the chilli scramble. Both were tasty but the pancake stack was decadent and well worth the calories. Take a walk afterwards perhaps.

Th 15 century cilbir eggs was definitely worth a try didnā€™t regret the order. Service was fast and efficient. Staff was very friendly and not too pushy for you to clear the table

This is a great breakfast cafe where I love to bring visitors too. The food is always good and the wait line isnā€™t too bad. I love the green smoothie and chilli eggs but honestly I have tried most dishes and they are all great.
Gracie
Ordered the greek plate and cilbir eggs with sujuk. Everything was well balanced and seasoned. Quite unique menu. Casual ambience, busy take away coffee but not so much dine in.

the food and the mimosas were all amazing! We ordered the smashed avo toast, and gnocchi. The zucchini flower was the bomb and the highlight of the gnocchi!

Would definitely recommend this brunch place! The customer service is always amazing and the food is always delicious. Sometimes a bit of a wait but very well worth it.

Came here on a hot summers day to catch up with a friend. We sat in the back area where the ambience was lovely. I ordered the pasta dish, it was filling but towards the end difficult to finish because it was too oily. Would come back if I was in the area to give it another try.

Been coming here for years as it is across my gym. Always packed. I have to say well done, owners of Pillar for your continuous improvement - I have noticed coffee greatly improved in the last 6 months, there is a window take out spot, changed menu, also selling specialty coffee beans by different brands, park your dog area and... since the start of 2018 $1 off for bringing your Keepcup. Well done for constantly thinking of your customers! Happy customer.

I've tried really hard to like this cafe but find the food a bit too fancy and inconsistent for my liking. I tried the Greek platter for breakfast and wasn't overly impressed. The sausage was undercooked. The scrambled eggs were creamy and oversalted and also a bit undercooked and the saganaki was only luke warm and cut a bit too thick. The dips, however, were delicious and the pita was light and fluffy. The coffee was excellent and the service was excellent.

So I wouldnā€™t say Iā€™m a regular but Iā€™m a fan of pillar and happen to pop in every so often, mostly for the homemade granola which I dream about until today. I went in excited for the granola and realised it had a little facelift when reading the menu and I thought that it mostly sounds the same. Letā€™s give it a go.

Then it comes out and itā€™s granola on a plate firstly....dumb and it comes with some gooey, mango purĆ©e and coconut pana cotta which tastes absolutely putrid....am I supposed to pour this foul yellow brown goo on my granola? I donā€™t get it and then thereā€™s all these clashing flavours and I just canā€™t get my head around it.

Anyway it was so disappointing because the granola was the best thing ever and that was simply the worst and I feel horrible.

Please change it back!!!!
The staff are so nice and good coffee.
Other meals are good too...

Too full to order the pancake which is a little bit regretful
Love the environment and location is easy to find
The food is a bit salty for me maybe becuz i prefer light food
Stuck In Transit
I had been to Pillar of Salt ages ago and loved everything about it. I decided to head back as we were in the area in hopes it would be just as amazing as last time we visited. ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE. Located along Richmondā€™s busy Church Street, this corner cafe sees a number of locals and those on their lunch break grabbing a quick coffee before heading back to work. The cafe itself is quite small with tables placed rather close together to optimise the space, plus a gorgeous outdoor courtyard out back. Even on weekdays, youā€™ll find the cafe bustling and often have to wait a few minutes for a table to clear.

Love the choice of food here. Great place to get an almond coffee. Service always friendly and fast! Can get very busy however itā€™s a reflection of how good it is!
Sarah
Definitely lives up to all the hype! I had been wanting to go here for ages and finally made it for brekky. All of the dishes were generous servings and presented beautifully. Looking forward to heading back to try more of the menu!

Best smashed avo Iā€™ve ever had, the friendly staff were able to make a vegan version is well which is great. Funky decor and prompt service even when busy.

Walked in for a sunday brunch into this bustling cafe. We ordered a Fresh Orange Juice which was good. We also got The Greek Board and The 15th Century Cilbir Eggs. Firstly, the presentation of the food was so good. Secondly, it was delicious. Really enjoyed the food. Would surely visit again to try some different dishes.

Be warned: the serving is huge!
A nice little place in a busy street of cafes. Most people grabbed their coffee and food to go, but if you have the time, grab a seat out in the courtyard.
Nicely decorated and staff are very friendly.
Coffee was average but the food was delicious. Ordered the smashed avocado with poached eggs and it was just devine. One unisex toilet with a huge fan - not sure what that's about. Happy to come back.

I often come here for their coffee, which is great, probably a bit too milky for some but I like it. Just now though, I decided to actually sit down and have some lunch here. I ordered scrambled chilli eggs. While the toast were a bit too tough, the scrambled eggs was awesome. At first I thought it could've been spicier but it's actually not bad, the small hints of chilli throughout the eggs was actually quite enjoyable. The price is slightly on the pricier side though, especially if you compare to its neighbours. This applies to their sandwhiches and coffee, but also to their lunch menus to some extent.
Emily Anderson
ordered the pancakes and was pleasantly surprised with the flavours. This cafe has a very rustic and ā€˜outdoorā€™ vibe which i appreciate and has a lovely open space outside which is perfect for summer.

Friendly staff, a delicious menu that provides tasty food and a really nicely put together cafe interior.

The food as I say was very good and reasonably priced. The Greek board, poke bowl and the Californian salad all satisfied on today, a very warm day. Other items on the menu looked enticing but given the heat we didnā€™t want anything too warm.

We sat in the courtyard which is a really nice space but could probably benefit from a ceiling fan or extra standing fans (as they only had one) around the room as it was still very warm.

Overall a nice cafe with good food, friendly and helpful staff, which I would definitely come back to again.
We have been to Pillar of Salt a couple of times now, and what can we say? They havenā€™t let us down yet and we have been super impressed with their food. Located in Richmond, this brunch place has a great vibe and atmosphere. They are busy but have an indoor and outdoor area, and weā€™ve always been seated straight away, although I think both times we had a very late lunch so canā€™t comment if you go earlier. Being late birds, weā€™re fortunate to always get a seat.

On the first occasion I ordered the Nordic breakfast board which I absolutely loved! Itā€™s now been replaced with the Greek board which I havenā€™t tried as yet but Iā€™m sure it would be just as nice. Iā€™m the type of person that loves platter type food like dips, cheeses etc. so the Nordic breakfast board was just perfect for me. It had vodka radish cured salmon, emmental cheese, boiled eggs, smoked mackerel, dip, rye toast, mustard sauce and pickled beetroot salad. It was really appetizing and so yummy. This is the type of food I always feel like when I donā€™t know what I feel like!

Davin ordered these delicious tacos which had pineapple, corn, salsa, kale, avocado, sour cream, cheese, pork and hot sauce. They were SO tasty!

When we came back for brunch the second time, we both ended up ordering the eggs royale which had poached eggs with hollandaise sauce, cured salmon, kale and asparagus. The quantity of the dish was generous and it was very delicious! All the ingredients combined meant each bite was full of flavour. The hollandaise sauce was really nice and not too overpowering. There were also some crunchy bits throughout the dish which enhanced the overall flavour of it.

Their iced coffee was also quite good and not too sweet which we liked as weā€™re not the biggest sweet tooths. Davin also got a muesli bar on the go for the next day and he also said it was amazing.

The service was also top notch and the food came out super fast considering how busy they were! This is a place we will definitely revisit and have on our list as a go to place if weā€™re ever in the mood for some top quality brunch food.

- H

Went in to see what all the fuss was about since 9/10 of our friends were recommending it. Canā€™t say I was disappointed.

Went on a Sunday afternoon and ofcourse it was busy. Sun was shining and the weather was hot.

Perfect first experience of the place. Staff were friendly and were more than helpful.

Great place and great food!!!

The smashed avo is awesome! If you like a little kick to it- a little sourness, then go for it. I love their Chai Latte, itā€™s a tad sweeter and creamier, which I love. Staff were great! ā¤ļø

The smashed avo here was so good. Firstly - Pillar of Salt really sealed the deal for atmosphere and ambience. Their cute courtyard would support any weather! They have a house dog named Henry who was the CUTEST. He - in my opinion, was the star of the cafe. Coffee was served rich and smooth and food was very Greek like. Definitely worth a visit if youā€™re in Richmond! :

Pillar is the besssst... Vibey awesome! Creative, delicious, beautifully plated dishes, brekky bevs, and great coffee! I love knowing my coffee is gonna be bang on, so I can equally consider whether I want a milky, black or filter. Happens so rarely! Usually when I'm sitting in I grab a (bottomless) batchy, then a milk based something to take with me. Also order of service seems flawless, always seems like there's somebody around to wave down if need be, and staff are friendly, attentive, directional and just really amazing. Love it here always. So full of ambiance, innovation and deliciousness!

Nice fit out, warm and cosy. My smashed avo was delish but coffee was a little on the cold side, easy mistake. The girl on register needs to take a chill pill when I politely asked to split the bill I got a snappy firm no. All g, Iā€™ll still come back.

Absolutely love it here. Each dish is finished to perfection. Service is also great, super friendly staff and very attentive. If you get here before the brunch rush youā€™ll get a table straight away! Keep it up guys.

A very good place for a casual date or catch up with friends. Excellent ambiance and friendly staff!

The foods are slightly salty but they are outstanding and unique. I would definitely come again for a second time. šŸ˜šŸ‘

Had the eggs royale with a side of hash browns, my partner had the chilli scrambled eggs. Nice atmosphere, quite squished but cosy. Food was good nothing amazing. The chocolate brownie cruffin (croissant & muffin) was to die for!

Amazing food and atmosphere. From my pics you will see that the food were like pieces of art! Dog and baby friendly environments too! Staff were friendly and weather was perfect for a seat out the back!

We had the chilli scrambled eggs and the 15th century ciblir eggs. The scrambled eggs were really good, the ciblir eggs was a weird one, it was all very tasty but strange for breakfast. It's something different which was good though. Service was friendly and fast. This place has been around for a long time and continues to be busy which says a lot.
