My favourite Restaurant everrrrr ❤ I always love the food every time I dine in at Cochin (I love every dishes so can't really pick one as a fave), and my dining experiences are always wonderful with the warm welcome from very lovely people. Highly highly recommended to dine at Cochin for your next event 👍 👍👍 P/s: can't wait to come back again ❤

I had dinner here last night it was my second time dining here. I’m not one to normally post a review but this place is outstanding. Every dish was exquisite. The flavours were divine. The service is outstanding. Love love love the cocktails. It’s hard to choose but I think the chicken salad was my favourite, that or the barramundi. Do yourself a favour and dine here you won’t be disappointed.

Honestly one of my favourite places to be. The warmth and atmosphere of the place combined with the food and wine that is unmatched by many other places in Melbourne. The ‘Feed Me’ menu is always our go to because we have so many favourites and we can always try something new to find new favourites. Honestly the best part about this place is hands down the family like service all the time. As you walk in you are greeted by the lovely people and throughout the night the amazing humans at Cochin are so friendly and engaging. On our most recent trip they offered to put our left over food in the fridge for pick up at the end of the night as we were on our way to a show! You don’t get service and food to match like this anywhere (the great wine is a bonus!)! Thanks Cochin and your lovely staff xoxo

Such a perfect experience! Was welcomed in with friendly smiles straight away by staff, felt taken care of all the time with all drinks and food, they cared about all our needs and would cater to everything we requested. Been here twice already and will happily continue to support a beautiful restaurant❤️

We celebrated a birthday dinner last night and the experience was very positive. Service was excellent, the banquet was delicious and plentiful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a relaxed and enjoyable night out with friends

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The service was amazing, the food was beyond incredible, not to mention the delicious cocktails. The owners were so great with altering my meals due to my intolerances. We were running late and they were so good on the phone when I told Sonia we were running late. Definitely will be going back and it is a must night out for everyone. Thank you for the great food and friendly service xx

One word - Impeccable! The food, drinks & service, we could not fault, all amazing…. We had the “feed me” option from the menu - the champagne scallops were to die for, you must try, the beef was the best we’ve ever had, barramundi, prawns & even the vegetables - omg - so good! We can’t wait to go back - do yourselves a favour & try Cochin, you won’t be disappointed!

I had such a lovely dinner at Cochin tonight. Food was delicious, and the Cochin team were great (thank you)! I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting when back in town again.

What a culinary delight, every dish was delicately flavoured and delicious. The wine selection is impressive and also very reasonably priced. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive and very pleasant. I would recommend Cochin to any one for a couple's dinner, a group catch up or Birthday celebration as it caters for all!

We cannot speak more highly of both the service and the food at Cochin. It truly is a credit to the owners. It is the second time that we have visited and it certainly did not disappoint. We were a table of 9 and the service was exceptional from start to finish; friendly, attentive and eager to please. They offer a fabulous selection of wines and their mouth-watering, scrumptious menu is a gastronomic delight. Thank you so much ‘Team’ Cochin for making our get-together yesterday even more special.

Amazing service, food and wine! Can't fault it for a bit! Stumbled across this place with the Thursday special - 3-course duck and Pinot. Definitely coming back for the full menu!

This place has it going on!! From the moment you arrive, Sara (the hostess with the mostest) greets you like you are long lost friends. If its a sunny day be sure to sit outside. Never mind looking at the menu, the staff know the food so well, they can suggest dishes for you to share, and wines to pair with the amazing flavours of this cuisine. You can't go wrong visiting this restuaurant, everything about it hits the spot! I even pop down on a sunday for a lazy lunch and a happy cocktail or two. Be sure to get the duck party pie...Yummo!

The food is delicious. We had the salt & pepper squid & a bao bun from the specials menu then we shared the pork belly! Will definitely be back!

Such a great night, there to celebrate my birthday with a full table of friends, our section waiter really steering us in ge right direction with food opting for the $45/head feed me which did not disappoint. Food was amazing and service great all night. We will be back again and again! ❤️

The staff were happy to have a chat which was great. The food was amazing. We will return.

Came here last night to celebrate my sisters birthday, was the most amazing dinner. Jason was a great host, taking the reins and choosing our menu for us! Started with the prawns in green rice crisp batter with a dipping sauce - delicious! Then we were served pork bao buns which were full of flavour and juicy. For mains we had the pork and lemongrass and shaking beef both also tasty! Cocktails were delicious and all the staff welcoming and attentive. Will most definitely be coming back!

We had a delicious lunch here recently. The waitress was really lovely, and there were great gluten-free options. The servings were quite generous too - a nice modern take on Vietnamese.

We dined here on Tuesday night so it wasn't overly busy, I would say around half capacity. Though it was reasonably quiet we didn't feel relaxed because the staff were so rushed. Rushed to talk to us, rushed to deliver the food and explain what it was, we felt like we were in the way. We ordered the pork in lettuce cups and the chicken coconut salad which were both nice. The Nem Nuong (pork sausage in lettuce cups) was okay but didn't really hit the spot and the coconut chicken salad was amazing until I poured the accompanying sauce onto it which made it too sweet. For mains we ordered the red duck curry and it was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and a generous amount of duck. We then shared a desert which was the creme brulee, delicious but should have been called passionfruit not coconut and passionfruit as you couldn't taste any coconut. Overall it was good but I'd probably try some where new before I went back.

Absolutely delicious feed with brilliant ambiance and excellent friendly service 💯 highly recommend this modern Vietnamese restaurant. I’ve already booked to go back again!!

Fusion. An excuse to take away authenticity on one side, and up the price on the other. This is what I used to think. To be honest, I disliked fusion anything. Mix martial arts and aerobics – get the former with no technique and the latter with less of a workout. Mix dance styles – lose the form in both. And mixing food styles, well, that would always end in disaster.

The service was great - our waiter was super friendly and personable and his recommendations were spot on. Overall nice atmosphere and good food

What a little Gem, I found it while searching for tapas restaurants and saw Vietnamese and French cusine which really intrigued me!

The service was amazing and made all the difference in our experience, felt so welcomed and comfortable!

The food- our waiter suggested a few amazing ones, seemed like he was the cook ;) thats how well he knew everything.
Really enjoyed the "pulled duck curry with lyches" and the scallops.

I think Ill be a regular at this place after last night.
Thanks guys :)

Most attentive and sweet staff I have ever encountered. Amazing food , beautiful place. Love the coconut cake for desert, very generous portions which are very easy to share. Duck curry, shaking beef, the scallops and prawns just amazing. Will come back here for sure

Came here on the weekend the service was amazing, glass was always full! We shared nem nuong which I expected to be like a pork spring roll rather than the meat itself- either way it was really nice, the Tom chien com (prawns) were the stand out, really different and delicious. For mains we ordered the shaking beef and fried rice - these were both fairly average but pleasant. Smaller share plates were delicious

This is a terrific restaurant which we were kindly brought to by friends. I’m starting to think that all the good Vietnamese restaurants are now off Victoria St. This was a very happy experience. It’s a lovely stylish modern space. I’d call this modern Vietnamese cuisine, and mighty good it is too. We loved every dish and we had a good variety including pate, pork belly, prawns with salad, coconut prawns, calamari etc. I really enjoyed them all. They were innovative, beautifully presented and wonderfully tasty. Every one of them. Service was excellent throughout. Informative, helpful and polite and hard to fault. If you could give half marks, I’d give this place a 4.5. We would love to come back here anytime. Anytime.

Four of us had an exceptional meal at Cochin. Service was great, food amazing, and price very decent. Appreciated the opportunity to taste the wines before selecting. Will definitely be back.

We had a girls Christmas lunch here. The staff were lovely and let us change the set menu slightly - we had the $45 set menu. Delicious food. All courses were great. If i had to pick a favorite it would be the coconut prawns. A great place also if you have someone with you who is gluten free - 9/10 items on our set menu were GF. Great cocktails too. Will definitely come back and will recommend to friends.
Foodandwinefan
Cochin was the perfect pick for birthday lunch with a friend, the food was fresh and tasty, only downside was the service was a bit average, it wasn’t very busy but it was hard to get anyone’s attention
Long Black With Cinnamon
Tried the $30 Feed Me Menu on a Wednesday night before Cirque du Soleil - was served nam cheung, spring rolls, jasmine rice, Mekong salad and Shaking beef followed by coconut creme brûlée and truffles. Just enough food to hit the spot and great value for money! First Vietnamese my husband has ever liked! Shaking beef and coconut brûlée highlights :) table next to us could not stop ordering they loved everything they were trying especially the prawns from what we overheard. Will be back!
Milla Vanilla
Stopped by for a quick dinner and ordered pate and stir fried noodles. Simple, honest dishes and portions were decent too. Service was friendly and attentive though it was a very quiet Sunday night!
JB
Venue and staff very inviting, nothing was to much to offer. Chili beef short ribs had a profound effect, I’ll come back just for these but not exclusively. Definitely a local fav.

Good Vietnamese in Richmond, we got a late booking for a Saturday night, when we arrived the place was busy but had a very nice ambiance, the staff were helpful, the menu had a good range. We ordered 3 dishes and dessert and overall the quality and the flavors of the food were good. The dessert's were not as great, I tried the chocolate chili mousse and was blown away by the over powering nature of the chilli and would not recommend this dessert to anyone.
Andrew
My friend and I dined here on Friday night, and it was absolutely beautiful. Our Bordeaux waitress was attentive, polite and knowledgeable, which made our selections all that easier. Try the following: pork & lemongrass, steamed fish fillet and Asian broccoli. 9/10.
Nicole Catmull
Excellent dining experience, I highly recommend it. The portions are generous, the presentation thoughtful and the flavours are fresh and exquisite. Thanks to all the staff who warmly attended us and created a memorable dining experience. I will be back for sure.

This place is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. I love everything I've eaten here really fantastic flavours and the service has been great. Awesome for groups and sharing dishes and very accomodating for dietary requirements. Look forward to my next meal there.

Visited last night with my dining companion. We both enjoyed our experience with Cochin. Great food, good and attentive service. We tried Pork Belly wrapped with lettuce dipped in sour hoisin sauce, Mekong salad and Fried Rice. Thanks for the night and we will get back real soon.
Tomlovestoeat
I must say I really enjoyed my dinner here as did my dining companions. The shaking beef being the particular highlight and the dining room itself was nicely light and intimate. Good wine selection and friendly service was a bonus.

Really enjoyed dinner at Cochin tonight. Service wasn't overly attentive but the food was very flavoursome and excellent for a sharing style meal. Between 5 we ordered the pork on betel leaves, the salt and pepper squid, the coconut and seafood fritters, the shaking beef and the duck red curry. The squid and shaking beef were highlights for me personally. The cocktails/mocktails were also delicious and the bar staff were lovely.
The Lionking Diner
Enoyed the experience at Cochin... nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff... we had the chicken salad, crusty rice prawns, salt and pepper calmari and all dishes were spot on.., will be back very soon!
Zoe Elliott
We had the nem nuong, salt and pepper squid, canh ga for entree. The calamari was so nice with the spicey dipping sauce. Nem nuong..melt in your mouth. And the chicken wings (canh ga) also very tasty. We then had the asain brocolli, crispy pork, barrmundi fish whole, and the chateaubrand (sliced beef dish) all amazing. Cant fault any of it. My favorite dish was the crispy pork.. highly recommend!
Sarah
Took my Mum to Cochin for dinner and drinks on her visit from Sydney. The food and service were amazing.. by far the highlight of Mum's food and wine weekend in Melbs. Can't wait to head back with a big group to try the rest of the menu!

The beef (chateaubriand) deserves a '4', and a couple of other great dishes - fried tofu is both crispy outside and pillowy soft inside. The pork betel leaves lemony and tasty. The sides of green beans and fries with pineapple mayo both tasty and worked well with the beef. The desserts let down a little - the layered 'mango pudding' and the apple tarte Tatin both just ok, wouldn't order again. All considered, worth another visit (minus dessert).

Delicious food! Amazing service. We go here a lot for dinner.
Prawns in coconut milk were delightful.
The manager/owner is a lovely guy.
Would def recommend :)

Exquisitely set up for this Asian fusion.... One of the owner looks like one of the Bee Gees too ;-)

Swan St, Richmond address, quaint, modernly converted, dimli lit, not too crowded and has a nice flow to it.

Great service from the multi nationals team on the floor.

Most importantly, their food has the right notes and presentation for an Asian fusion, substantial Menu.
Edward Schweitzer
Great wine list. Really like the 75ml pour option so you can try some great french booze and not spend your whole pay check in one hit. Didn't really eat much but the food looked enticing.

Such a great night! Went on a Wednesday and for $25 were served the 'feed me' menu. Three courses that all went amazing together, arrived in perfect timing and beautifully fresh and delicious and full of flavour! Completely full by the end! Staff were so lovely and attentive with a busy restaurant. Can not recommend this place more and will definitely be back!

Visited here last night with my husband. We dined on a Scoopon voucher, but we would definitely return without one. We had the prawn on sugarcane, nem nuong, chicken curry, Mekong salad and creme brulee. The prawns had a beautiful flavour, but perhaps a bit spongy. The nem nuong, YUM! Crunchy, salty, sweet, everything you want in a nem nuong. The chicken curry was melt in your mouth tender with beautiful curry flavours. The mekong salad was just ok, I think with a little less sugar in the dressing, and more crunch it will be a winner! The creme brulee (not something I usually enjoy) was absolutely delicious. To top off the dining experience the staff went above and beyond. Can't wait to return!

Guys you nailed the French/Vietnamese Fusion...
Saturday night, really nice vibes, beautiful food, perfect service.
Now don't get me wrong I'm French, they nailed the duck à l'orange, the quail, mushroom sauce chateaubriand was perfectly cooked and seasoned, crème brûlée, strawberry mille feuilles.. i think you got it ;-) thumbs up for the cheese board ! Oh my god a superbe taste of home ! The wine list is impressive, Nice french wines, very good Australian too ! Really a nice experience ! I'll be back soon and will gather friends ! This place must be known

This place is awesome, great ambience, attentive service and very tasty food. Our family had a really enjoyable night, even my very fussy husband had a good time.

Not sure where the French part of the French fusion is, unless you count the bland coconut creme brûlée. Pedestrian Asian, not worth the trouble really. Spring rolls were nice, as you'd get in any good Vietnamese.

Friendly, prompt and welcoming service. Staff appeared experienced and worked well together.
Staff appeared happy to engage with diners in either professional or humorous mannerisms- depending on the diners response.
Clean and simply designed aesthetic, with appealing dinnerware.
Very good value for money.
Meals were well designed to suit the cuisine style and happily met the expectation generated from melding French and Vietnamese cuisines together.

Ordered meals:
- Chicken liver pate
- Turneric and sweet potato Croquettes
- Pork and Lemongrass
- Traditional Mekong Salad (Highly recommend +)
- Spicy Fries Saigon

Side notes:
- Of the food ordered the bottom three of the above meals listed were very spicy.
- The toilets are a little unappealing as they are in an alley like area next to the kitchen but they are clean and stylised.
Hello from Melbourne! I'm busy settling in to my new city of residence. The hustle and bustle [and the chilly weather] reminds me very much of London. There's plenty to organise, I've got to find somewhere to live, buy a car, all those life admin things... But top of my list is finding the best spots to eat! Obviously I have my priorities straight.
Rennie
Four of us in for a Saturday night meal, the restaurant was almost full and 'alive' with conversations and chatter. It has a great fit out and you're quickly greet by a friendly face with a warm welcome. The tables are fairly closely packed and our table kept being bumped as the people next to us kept getting in and out of their seats. The service is very good, attentive and friendly. There are so many lovely meals on the menu (softshell crab, chicken liver pate, salt and pepper squid and chateubriand were the standouts) and we had a great selection but there are many others that we'll need to try again on another visit. Definitely worth a second visit and soon! Give it a try.
Latebrunch
I've only heard bad things about this place, I don't think I'll be going here any time soon.

So sad after leaving this restaurant. We had a lovely night before being charged for the wrong wine and then openly laughed at when we disputed the bill- such arrogance. Such a pity for them. Will never go back.
Birdman
Really good joint and a must visit for anyone looking for a nice night out with great food. Service was very attentive friendly and not in your face which was great. Started off with the spring rolls which were pretty good and then had the calamari which was real fresh and very good flavours... chicken wings were next which were sooo good, ordered 5 but should have got 10. The prawns on the coconut sauce were so good, like a green Thai curry sauce it reminded me of but the prawns were great size and very fresh. Will definitely come back again to try a few different things and have some more of the same. Great place

We called up and managed to get a last minute table on Saturday night for dinner.
The service was great, very attentive and friendly. The fit out is cosy and intimate.
The menu is Vietnamese French inspired. So many things on the menu to try but since there were just two of us we will have to come back to sample more.
We started with some pork and prawn spring rolls, which were served the tradition way with Lettuce and mint so you can roll them up and dip them in the Nuoc Cham. Delish. Then we moved on to the Salt and Pepper fried squid with Nuoc Cham for dipping - another delicious dish, the squid was really fresh. Next up was CANH GA (chicken wings) - I think these were our favourite dish, if you like chicken wings this is a dish for you! We then had the Prawns in Coconut Milk with special friend rice. There were so many prawns in the dish, very generous serve. I was pretty full by now I managed to eat 3 prawns and a few spoonfuls of rice. They were both great dishes, my only critique would be that the special fried rice possibly needed a bit of salt to it.
To end, we shared the Coconut Cream Brûlée (yes I was full but my dessert stomach always has room). This was outstanding, a really decent size serve and it was made perfectly. A great way to end a great dinner.
We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu soon!

Best part of the night was the service. It was really friendly and accommodating.
Drinks list was comprehensive and provided plenty of choice by the glass. Food was ok, highlight was the croquettes.

I rolled out of this place, I was shattered there was no room for the amazing deserts they had on the menu. I will be back for them of course! I'm not done.
This Vietnamese X French place is a little gem, I was not disappointed with the food and service was immaculate. We started with the recommended zucchini fritters, chicken pate, to die for, duck l'orange which was soft and tender, prawn in coconut, pork dish, and a refreshing salad to compliment the mains, which was divine and lastly greens. All washed down with a nice Frenchie. Alf our waiter was beautifully attentive, he knows his stuff and made our dining experience fun and enjoyable. This place is gorgeous and intimate, especially when lights go down. I can't wait to come back. Thanks guys I loved it.

This place was ok .... Service good food was something to talk about after u left .... It has similar food to botherambo .... I would try again just to ensure it was not a first experience thing!

There is no such thing as a free lunch, but there is cheap and delightful food without sacrificing ambience and service. For that, come to Cochin.
They do a Wednesday night $25 feed me dinner. Sure, you can get a $10 Parma down the road but night and day ok? $25 buys you, well $100 for 4 people should I say, 4 crispy tasty Spring rolls and chicken wingettes as your entree, a stunning coconut prawn curry, a flavoursome lemongrass pork and a meh chicken curry and refreshing papaya salad. Rice included. Oh and a chocolate truffle for dessert. Attentive and personable service. Cocktails are ok. Go for wine.
Kevin
I will just preface this by saying I have been a user since 2011, I give ratings and post photos on Zomato/Urbanspoon but I've never felt the urge to write a review for a restaurant before, until I dined at Cochin last weekend for my friend's birthday.

Located on the quieter end of Swan Street, Cochin serves up tapas-style French Vietnamese dishes at a modest price for the amazing quality and service that you'll ever recieve. For entrees, we had the prawn on sugarcane, softshell crab, duck a l'orange and for mains we shared prawn in coconut milk, whole baby snapper, pork and lemongrass and lemongrass beef with vermicelli noodles (Oh did I tell you they can do half servings as well! - So you can enjoy more dishes with the exception of chateaubriand and the snapper). Each dish was packed with flavours and distinct in their own right.

I would rate the food as on par with the likes of popular Asian fusion restaurants such as Chin Chin and Rice Paper Scissors. What really brought Cochin to the next level from the rest which sparked my need to write this review was the care and attention given by our waitress Dominique - her genuine and welcoming customer service is like no other continued throughout the course of the night. The neat touches and plating by the chef on our birthday cake (bought from Burch and Purchese - delicious strawberry cheese cake) was unexpected as well.

Thumbs up to the team at Cochin, we will definitely come back!
Sarah McKenzie
An extremely satisfying dinner. We were reluctant to go out for Vietnamese food that is a bit more dressed up, as we usually head down to Victoria street, we were NOT disappointed. We had the duck, cured eyefillet (like a tartare), pate, quail, seared eyefillet, chicken liver patè, salt and pepper squid and two different salads. All of which were fantastic. Service was great, (thanks domanique!) even with our 10 month old with us on a Friday night. Wine prices were a bit up there but unfortunately that seems to be the norm now adays in richmond. Finished up with the chefs selection of desserts which were a good balance of sweet and tart.
TMc
Oh my word.....what a little gem....five of us were here and got the set menu....such wonderful flavours and textures....out of this world!!

A great night. Our waitress Dominique was fantastic. Made up for a little micro managing and made us feel special all night ...............................

Cochin is less than 1 year old located at Swan street near Union dining. Excellent value for money feed me menu for $25pp, 2 entrees and 2 main.. And two little chocolate balls to finish off. Tasty, authentic Vietnamese dishes, we enjoyed the chicken wing and spring roll, as well as the lemongrass pork and creamy coconut prawn.
Emilio Rogliano
Lovely food, well presented and good attentive staff. A great example of the Vietnamese & French cuisine you could expect to find in Vietnam. Highly recommended!
Cookie & The Foodie
What a great local find. The food and service at Cochin are second to none. Loved the fact that our waiter took the time to explain the best way to eat and his choices of dishes was bang on. The chicken wings are the absolute bomb as with the pate', beef salad and chicken curry.. Leave room for dessert as you won't be disappointed. Good solid wine list, backed up by knowledgeable staff and great food/ wine pairing. A quant atmosphere, slick and seductive. Will be back.. Great place for a date and a cosy friends catch up.
Pepsi
There is no semi here.....I get a full blown horn when I think of this place. The chef should be proud of his special fried rice & pork with lemon grass dishes. Absolutely outstanding.
Nic
The service at Cochin was 10/10. The owner was extremely attentive, and our waiter, Alfie, was absolutely fabulous. The food was really delicious, with so many lovely flavours. The atmosphere was ambient, and a lot better than expected from the photos I had viewed on the website. I will be definitely be back to this place and I would highly recommend Cochin for a nice dinner in Richmond.
Kate O'Connor
An incredibly cosy new spot for fusion cuisine in Richmond. The chicken slaw buns and the red curry were highlights! Very knowledgeable staff who were really attentive. Definitely worth checking out this new spot!
3121Foodie
Quite like this place. The food is pretty simple, and many of the smaller dishes fried as seems to be the case at a lot of asian fusion restaurants, but it was all quite tasty.
Service was quite attentive and the atmosphere good, if not a little noisy. I would go back again.
Georgie Gale
Beautiful fresh food with an abundance of flavour; gorgeous attentive staff, always accessible and a truly warming, genuine atmosphere ! No complaints

Oh my god, I have never been to such a well rounded, all encompassing, brimming with pride establishment such as Cochin in all of my life.

I came here with the boy and a friend after work and was recommended an array of dishes based on my hunger levels and preferences. I left feeling utterly satisfied and stupidly happy.

Highly recommend the fried quail, mekong salad, baby snapper, duck l'orange... hell. Look, just let them pick for you, they know what they're doing.

Honestly. I left. So full. And so happy.

Recommended by family we decided upon dinner at Cochin. Hadn't heard much about this place and now believe it to be a hidden gem on Swan St. The owner recognising half of our party after their one previous visit, brought us over glasses of sparkling on the house. A great start to the evening!
We also got the choice to decide on which table we wanted to sit at as we were a little bit earlier than our booking time.

We ordered several dishes to share amongst the four of us. All tasted amazing!! Absolutely recommend the soft shell crab, which was the best I've ever tasted!! The pork and lemongrass beef were amazing as well.

Service was perfect with care and attention paid, however still gave us space to enjoy the experience at our own pace. Great atmosphere with a look of up market quality, yet casual and enjoyable.
Would definitely go back again and recommend to friends!!

Cochin is a realisation of co‐owners Bruce Dowding and Jason Baker’s passion for French wine and Vietnamese cuisine and its connections with France. The wine bar puts an interesting spin on the traditional Vietnamese eateries usually found in Richmond with a menu that draws from the significant influence of the French in the colony of “Cochin”, now the southern part of Vietnam.
JoJo X LiLi
Barely 12 weeks old and this little tapas-style French Vietnamese bombshell is already well on it's way to leaving it's mark on the Richmond food scene - and my, what a lasting impression is has left on us. Another week has come and gone and once again, JoJo and LiLi are choosing to try and end it on a high note with dinner together - this time at Cōchin. It had been a particularly trying week for both and we were really looking forward to the the exotic, flavour-promising offerings on the menu. When it was finally time to leave work, JoJo and LiLi were out of there and on a tram to Richmond by the minute.
Megan Luscombe
Really glad we ended up going here because it did not disappoint. Cochin does a Vietnamese meets French cooking inspired menu and I really think it works

Their menu is great with some really interesting dishes, we had the following:

DUCK A L'ORANGE - 4/5CAHN GA - 5/5 (Fried chicken is ALWAYS the best)FRIED QUAIL - 3/5
MEATBALLS - 5/5 (Absolutely delicious)

The service is lovely and attentive (without being too in your face) and the venue is relaxing, perfect date night venue. They have an incredible drinks menu with cocktails that sound divine (I was driving that night so did not sample any, however plan to come back and do just that!)
Loveandmalbec
Dropped in for a late lunch and we were graciously welcomed despite them being moments from closing the kitchen. Mekong salad, beautifully balanced. Chateaubriand...amazing. Sexy French wines to match. Love this place and going back soon to celebrate a friend's birthday.
Brenten
Fantastic restaurant. Great food, extensive wine list and the food matches the rest of the experience. Can't say enough about the level of service. All tied together by Jason. Sit down relax and let the staff do their job.
Wine Not?
Lovely fit out and great customer service, unfortunately the food does not meet the same standard. Whilst there were barely any French inspired dishes, the Vietnamese ones sadly tasted more like Chinese food. The only thing I enjoyed was the Marou Chocolate Truffles. More research and improvement needs to be done with the food before I come back.
Jen
Very yummy Vietnamese! We went to Cochin for dinner for a family member, the foods were delicious! So much flavours. It is a newly opened restaurant with nice decor, think it is a bit underrated by zomato. The pork with lemongrass, prawn with coconut cream, and the slow cooked beef all top choices and we will go again.
J
As we love Vietnamese food, dining here was a no brainer for us. As we got there quite early on a Saturday evening (eg. 6.30pm Seniors dining time) , 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. We were asked if we had a booking, but as we did not, they needed time to 'prepare' a table in an empty restaurant..um..OK. So we were seated at the bar, as soon as I sat on the bar stool and we literally placed our drinks, our table was instantly ready! C'mon guys, that table was ready and we were going to order drinks anyway, you didn't need to seat us at the bar to order drinks! The dishes here follow the growing trends of share style. The recommended share plate sizes we had was fine for me, but my partner was left a little peckish later on in the evening. The quail was yummalicious and the lemongrass was tasty. The large table next to us did get slightly loud and rowdy and as my bf is quietly spoken, I couldn't really hear anything. I did politely ask if we could be moved a couple tables down (seeing one section was empty) but was told it was all booked out. Well we were there for another hour and no one was seated there, so I thought that may be more of a 'I can't be bothered to move you two'. As a summary, we did have a nice time and the dishes were tastetastic , but those couple of odd things that did happen, means it wasn't a stellar dining experience.

Read Herald Sun review this morning and decided to go for dinner. We order a prawn in coconut milk, duck a L' orange, beef and betal leaf and a Mekong salad. All dishes came out really yummy. Overall staff are really helpful and efficient. Atmosphere is a bit noisy cause is a bar restaurant. Who care, as long as foods and staffs are good.

Thought we'd try our luck wandering down Swan St on a Fri night and stumbled on this newly opened delightful French-Viet bistro. Ushered in promptly and cheerfully, and the service continued so throughout the night. Two small plates, one larger and a side were enough to fill two starving bellies. Husband was a fan of the duck a l'orange (watch out for those chillies!) and I loved the salt & pepper quail. Coconut prawns with vermicelli rounded out the protein. The crême caramel dessert was the clear winner over the tarte tatin (and fought over!). $85 pp including 3 wines apiece (ps the Iced Riesling dessert wine is delish) in a cosy yet swish lil setting. Only suggestion is perhaps a screen to hide the kitchen doors from our table? But we will still be back :)
