Name a better way to spend your last venting before lockdown 2.0. Came here for an evening meal with my sister as we mourned ‘no dining in’ for the next 6 weeks! Back to supporting local via takeaway.
Every time I go to a Vietnamese restaurant I always walk away knowing it was fresh... and that I got some vegetables. A win win in my eyes.
One of the few places have excellent “banh cuon”, taste mostly the same as Vietnamese version, yet it’s quite overpriced for such dish. The ‘bun bo hue’ tastes amazing as well😍
Dear wonderful customers,

I went here twice in the span of 2 weeks. The staffs were quite nice, though the second time the staff didn't really understand our orders well.
Onto the food, their famous pancake was well, quite nice and obviously huge. I do think it did lack flavour and was quite oily, me and my sis agreed on that.
I did like their mini pancakes, not oily and had a nice chewy-ish texture with succulent prawns on top!
Spring rolls were nicely fried and pretty good, though were on the smaller side.
Pho was alright, big portion but was not as fragrant nor flavorful as its contenders, more so of the MSG flavour.
Overall, quite a good affordable viet restaurant.

xx,joelle.
They have amazing claypot rice here!
This place is usually packed during lunch and dinner hours and we tried their claypot rice and absolutely loved it. The flavours and were really good and the the portions were reasonable. They do have quite a good range on the menu and would love to be back to try out the other dishes.
One of the best Vietnamese restaurants we have eaten at and we've eaten at quiet a few. Loved the # 11 (Fried Vietnamese omlette) and # 29 (Mixed entree) Friendly staff and prompt service. This place became a regular once a month for hubby and I for about 10 years when we lived in Epping, Victoria. Worth the travelling time.
With so many Vietnamese eateries along Victoria Street, it's hard to know what's good and what's not. A quick search on Zomato led us to Thanh Ha 2, and when we got there at around 8pm on a Saturday, there was still a wait for a table. A good sign
Seeing that the Banh Xeo is what everyone else seemed to be raving about, I ordered the pork and prawn Banh Xeo and I was not disappointed! Thin and flaky along the edges, and soft where the fillings are, it was a treat to eat. I would have personally preferred the fillings to be a bit more seasoned but this was the easily rectify with any sauce of your choice.
The Bun Bo Hue came with so much ingredients that we thought it might have been a mistake. Tender slices of meat, pig's blood, sausages - all swimming in a hearty and flavourful bowl of soup.
We also had the Tomato Rice with Diced Beef & Garlic, and while the rice was alright, the diced beef were very tender and juicy.
Despite how busy it was, the food arrived in a prompt manner, and the service was friendly and attentive. No wonder it's such a popular place.
Local Vietnamese restaurant that we frequently visit.
A no frills place with a huge menu that's reasonably priced.
We love the beef and onion on tomato rice - super tender beef in a delicious sauce.
The bun here is slightly different. The chicken is braised instead of grilled. Still delicious but I think I prefer grilled (which they unfortunately do not do) recommend adding in the spring rolls though as they are soooo good.
The bahn xeo here is also really big and delicious. Definitely give that a try if you come here with a few people (:

Banh Canh Cua & Mi Bo Kho
Having a soup is good but having a soup with friends is even better. Nothing like your mates leaving some broth in their bowls for you to nab with your spoon when they are looking the other way. Yum yum yum.
Thanh Ha 2 is on Victoria street, one of many delicious Vietnamese outposts in the great state of Victoria aka Souptoria.
This restaurant has a speciality in Banh Xeo which is god damn delicious. A crispy Vietnamese pancake that contains pork and prawn and is wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves. An absolute win. Though, I am the Soupfluencer not the Pancakefluencer and we are here to hear about soups. The Banh Canh Cua here is a glutinous beast with lashings of crab meat and an assortment of mushrooms. There were plenty of surprises in this soup such as a well cooked quail egg! The flavours are bold and contained as many crabs as a music festival campground. Very. Very good value for $16!
My friends @bensonaus and @foodclub_aus ordered the Mi Bo Kho which is an egg noodle beef stew. The stock was aromatic with a special hint of chinese five spice. The soup had large chunks of slow cooked beef but had a few too many fatty off cuts for our liking. All in all these soups were quality, made with loving care and an assortment of regional Vietnamese options that are a bit more exciting than the usual options of Pho!

This is my favourite Vietnamese restaurant on the strip. Always consistently good. The egg noodle soups and vermicellis are always my go to. The pancakes are great too. Always busy and fresh.
My friend that is a girl suggested that we eat banh xeo today for lunch and decided to drive for 30mins to this place. We ordered the pork and prawn banh xeo and it was so DELICIOUS AND SCRUMPTIOUS. Best I've had in my life to be honest. We also ordered the combination crispy egg noodle which was also very crispy and tasty! Would definitely comeback when we are craving some Vietnamese pancake!
I have been going to Thanh Ha 2 for many years! They make the most authentic and delicious Banh Xeo (Vietnamese Pancake) in Melbourne. Every time I have friends visiting Melbourne I would often take them to Thanh Ha 2 and this time is no exception, I had friends visiting from Singapore.
🔆LOCATION🔆
Thanh Ha 2 is conveniently located on Victoria Street in Richmond, one of 3 Vietnamese suburbs in Melbourne. It is right next to CBA branch near corner of Lennox Street, opposite to Woolies/ALDI.
🔆SERVICE🔆
We wanted a table as far away from the front door as it was a very cold evening. The waitress was very nice and gave us the back table however they felt embarrassed as staff was eating their dinner. We just smiled and said don't worry. We werent bothered by that at all as people do need to eat.
As we were there early, at 6.30pm the restaurant had not filled up yet so our order arrived very fast and promptly which was good as we were cold and also hungry. By the time we finished our meal and ready to leave, it was almost 7.30pm and the restaurant was 80% full.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
There were 3 of us and we ordered the following, which each of us having a bowl of pho each.
Bahn Xeo (Vietnamese Pancake with pork and prawn), $19.00
Bah Hoi Chao Tom (Fine Rice Vermicelli with Sugar Cane Prawn, $16.00
Pho Bo Tai (Vietnamese Rice Noodle Beef Soup), $11.00
🔆VERDICT🔆
Banh Xeo is a must to order! Its delicious and the pankcake is thin and crispy with decent amount of filling inside.
For good authentic Vietnamese food Thanh Ha 2 is the place to visit when in Richmond.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: I’ve come here many times before and the quality is still the same.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: my favourite dish from here is the Banh Xeo - I think it’s their signature dish. It’s a delicious crispy pancake with prawns and bean shoots and other goodies in it. It goes perfectly with a salad and some fish sauce.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it’s not the newest restaurant and the fit outs haven’t changed for years. Don’t expect to be treated like royalty.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for authentic Vietnamese food - highly recommend
Quality Vietnamese food. Simple dishes done well. All the classics like rice paper rolls, Vietnamese coleslaw, broken rice were very tasty. The three coloured drink was on the pricey side but that was really my sole complaint. It’s tough to be competitive with Vietnamese cuisine on Victoria Street but this place is!!
One of my regular pho place in Richmond. A friend actually introduced me to this place. The Pho is pretty good. I’ve heard they’ve got a nice Vietnamese pancake too.
One of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants because they have a wide variety of authentic Vietnamese food like banh xeo, bun rieu, banh khot and banh cuon. The list goes on. Yum 😋
Great place for quality vietnamese foods. Their signature omelette / pancake is not only massive but also full of flavours. You can pay with debit / credit cards but as is the case for many Asian restaurants, $20 min spend is required.
Everything was delicious and great value. I've grazed up and down Victoria St and this is one of the best. The Vietnamese pancake is a visual sensation, but the taste is also good. The sides of mint, Vietnamese mint, bean shoots, Vietnamese balm, Thai basil, and lettuce were fresh and generous. Fast, friendly, and "no-nonsense" service.
Now that Thanh Tam is no longer with us we have returned to this old favourite and they serve the best Banh Khot around. Four of us shared, along with prawn spring rolls, bo la lot, salt & pepper squid and chicken coleslaw. I thought the coleslaw let the team down but it wasn't my choice of dish, I prefer it with prawns or beef. The rest of the food was excellent. Complimentary tea, BYO and friendly service.
We had a large group dine here for dinner, and it was a great choice. The food was delicious, and large portion sizes for sharing, plus the variety is expansive. Everyone was really happy with the food, and the waiters were friendly and were in no rush to push us out after we finished our meal. The bill was very reasonable too. With so many choices on Victoria street for Vietnamese, I’d definitely come back here again!

This is another delicious Vietnamese cuisine in Richmond. Camee for dinner and ordered Bahn Cuon, Bahn Khot and bo la lot beef wrapped in leaf. We highly recommend Bahn Cuon, it was on point! The other dishes was pretty good as well.
Despite not seemingly focus on pho, this place actually has one of the tastiest pho soup in the area. It was however very oily. The other dish we ordered, seafood claypot was reasonably good too with plenty of seafood meat. Overall thumbs up for this place.
There is a huge menu available but do not leave without having the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese Pancake). The savoury, crispy batter fried with a selection of pork slices, prawns and beansprouts wrapped with fresh lettuce and dipped in sweet sauce is pure heaven. The quality has not changed since 2005 when I first visited and it is one of our must haves when we are in Melbourne.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed in this restaurant - they sell all types of Vietnamese food. I would only recommend the Vietnamese pancake - fried well, very crisp, tasty, good accompanying condiments. However, I would not order the pork and egg in fish sauce - it’s called claypot rice but there’s no claypot element to it! The broken rice was alright. Rice portions r huge
I came to this place for their rice cake (called floating thin cake in the menu) but there was some confusion in which dish was what I had in mind. Ultimately got the steamed rice paper cake instead (made veggie) plus the beancurd in black bean sauce. Both dishes were really nice. The rice paper cake was delicately made with a range of fresh toppings and housemade skins.
Food came so fast and staff were really friendly and willing to accommodate my requests, even when I was embarassingly showing my ignorance of the difference between certain dishes.
Can't wait to come back for the rice cake, pancake and mungbean cake. Next time.
really nice eggplant salted fish claypot dish here with quite generous portion. will be back to try out the other dishes. service was prompt and friendly also.
We ordered the steamed rice roll with prawn which is really nice and delicious.I'll give 4.5 stars for this dish if I didn't order others. The deep fried wonton sauce taste a little bit weird. We also ordered the Mongolian beef sauce and stuffed duck. They are all in sizzling plate and taste very sweet. The menu has a lot of chilies at a glance but you will find it quite similar just with different sauces. The table they arranged for 4 people is very small.
The price is cheap and service is quick.
Overall,it doesn't seem like an authentic Vietnamese restaurant for me.It's a mixture of Vietnamese and Chinese.
As a huge pho and Vietnamese food lover, was excited to try out some authentic places in Richmond. They have a huge variety of dishes on the menu. In the end we got the beef pho, pork and prawn Vietnamese pancake (banh xeo) and rice paper rolls with shredded pork the first time we visited here. Was blown away by the deep flavours of each dish! Everything was so fresh and amazing. Service was also good.
Came here a second time (unfortunately was so excited by the food I completely forgot to take a photo) and along with similar dishes, we also ordered the Thanh Ha special “Vietnamese coleslaw with rare beef” (bo tai chanh). This dish was again, so fresh and the flavours, amazing! Can’t wait to go again!
Massive menu serving mainly Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. The pho are great and their egg noodles or rice noodles dishes can come as a dry (although they don't write it on the menu), just ask the waiter. The dipping sauce for the spring rolls is also great!
I eat pho once a week and have worked in a Vietnamese restaurant, and can honestly say that this place has the best pho in Melbourne. Unfortunately I live in the burbs now but this place is my fav in Richmond. I prefer my pho more salty than sweet and this place just kills every other pho place on Victoria street
Best Vietnamese pancakes ever: Crispy and generous fillings. Adorable mini prawns pancakes. My favourite place to dine in on Victoria street . Super casual place.
Great place to go if you want a variety of Vietnamese street food to share. banh khot and banh xeo was super crunchy. Banh cuon was just as good. Only wish I lived closer.
I really love the bun bo hue here and the Vietnamese pancake, I prefer eating here only when my other favorite places are full tho as they use alot of MSG in their soup broths, I am always extremely thirsty and irritated every time I dine here . I find that the service is also quite good here .

I love this restaurant they serve the best authentic Vietnamese food. I had the Vietnamese pancake with pork, the rice paper rolls, coleslaw with rare beef, and the 3 colour drink, a favourite. Food was great and service was really efficient. The layout of the restaurant is a little bit tight, and the lighting is a little dim, but overall I would come back again just for the food!
Service: friendly and polite
Food: vercemelli and batal leaves are recommened, rich in flavour and the fish sauce compliments.
Banh knot is well made, the pancake is deep with prawn in thr centre.
Banh xeo has a crispy shell and the inside is compact.
Ambiance: average and seating is evenly spaced out.
The banh xeo here are thin crispy and huge! Very delicious and a must try here.
They also have whole fried flounders ($30 small or $35 medium size) salt and pepper style or sweet and sour.
The Bún Riêu Cua is another reliable option if you feel like Vietnamese crab noodles.
Always busy when we go there however they have an upstairs so don't be deterred if you look in and its packed.
The steamed rice paper cakes here are so good! I get the pork and prawn or just prawn. Highly recommend as I haven’t found as good a version of this so far ☺️
Cheap adfordable Viet eats! What not to like! I ordered the BBH, came in a huge bowl with fresh veg on the side very flavourful broth and good amount of ingredients!
We ordered the vegetable vietnamese pancake/bánh xèo, sliced beef pho, & bún with pork & spring rolls.
The bánh xèo was TO DIE FOR! Huge size, probably big enough to share among 2-3 people, golden & crispy with generous portion of vegetable filling (beanshoots, sweet peas, carrots, onion, spring onion, soft fried tofu, & what i reckon was yellow mung beans?), we ate it with lettuce, mint & perilla leaves a plenty. Dip it in their fish sauce, crunch crunch crunch munch munch munch party in your mouth & fiesta in your tummy tum tum !!! It was my first experience eating it, & boy i'm so glad we chose to have it at Thanh Ha 2!
The beef pho was delightful! Good size of noodles & beef, with plenty of herbs on the side. I particularly love the soup, clean & flavoursome.
The bún is another winner! Again, we love the fact that they put plenty of fresh veg & herbs in it, together with juicy pieces of grilled pork & crispy spring rolls.
Overall, what a great place to eat in the heart of Vietnamese town that is Richmond! Service was good & swiftly, although we had to wait quite a bit for the pancake (totally worth it though!). Will definitely come again for sure!
As tourists in Richmond, we didn’t know which restaurant to choose. We selected Thanh Ha 2 based on their menu and the number of people in the restaurant. We were certainly pleased with our selection. We were so pleased that we came back the next day. On our second visit, we had to wait for a free table, the wait was only 5 minutes.
The food came out within 15 minutes of being seated. The dish portions are very large.
The food is genuinely Vietnamese. The menu is vast with lots of variety. We really enjoyed the goi thap cam. It was fresh, light and very tasty. The bun bo hue was also very good, lots of different types of meat. The broth wasn't spicy.
The service was friendly.
We hope to visit Thanh Ha 2 again when we are next in Melbourne.
My favorite restaurant for Vietnamese pancakes in Melbourne! One vegetarian pancake is large enough to feed two people. The pancake is crispy & golden with large filling of tofu, onions, mung beans, bean shoots, spring onions & carrots.
Update 22/07/18
I tried their fresh vegetarian rice rolls for the first time today. The rice rolls were filled with vegetables & tofu. The serving wasn’t large so I recommend ordering an entree together with this dish over wise you won’t be full. Will definitely come back for more.
I come here just for the vientamese pancake and as always Thanh Ha 2 delivers the goods. Beuatiful batter with a healthy portion of prawns and pork accompanied by mustard leaves and mint. Its a whole of body experience as you use your hands to bring the leaves, pancake and filling together. A great way to pass an hour at lunchtime.
This is my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne. The best things to get here are the Vietnamese coleslaw and Vietnamese pancakes. So unbelievably fresh and delicious. I’ve taken a lot of out of town visitors and they all have been very impressed and loved it. Real, authentic Vietnamese cuisine at a really affordable price.
On these hot summer days when you feel like a light meal I suggest the Vietnames pancake with prawn and pork.
These are really tasty and are made to share between 2 people. You basically wrap the pancake with lettuce and asian greens these are a very refreshing dinner.
Washed down with the traditional three colour drink this is a fantastic quick meal.
I only order the pancakes here as they are the best in Victoria Street and given how busy they are on a week day evening I highly recommend this restaurant.
48, 116, 146 are good. Highly recommend the combination in clay pot, best taste with white rice. The duck with plum sauce is way too sweet for me so I don’t really like it, but overall the food is good & worth trying.
Good Vietnamese food The banh xeo is great. Banh cuon not bad too. Tables and cutlery fairly clean. Enjoyed our visit there. Always very packed
Food: I ordered the sliced beef pho. Lovely broth, meat was a little too chewy. My friend ordered the Quang Style Egg Noodle, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also shared a Vietnamese pancake, which was absolutely huge! Plenty of lettuce came with it. Although the dish was a bit oily, the flavours of the filling balanced the delicate eggy pancake very well.
Price: Very good value for their generous servings. With a main dish each plus the pancake, we probably ordered too much but still stomached it all.
Service & Ambience: Waiters were pretty standard for Asian establishments. Not rude but not going out of their way to be peppy. The restaurant isn't very big, and for a Sunday night's dinner it got quite busy.
Overall, I will definitely be coming back to try more items from their extensive menu!
Came here for dinner last night with a friend. The decor of the restaurant is exactly what you expect on Victoria street- simple and outdated. But you don't come for the style, you come for the food! And the food was good! We started with some spring rolls and a vegetarian Tom yum soup. Then we both ordered the Banh Xeo Tacos- warning: they are enormous! I really liked mine, the taco itself was crispy and delicious. I had the prawn and pork - the prawns were nice but the pork was a little bit flavourless, albeit well cooked. It was filled with yummy stuff like bean sprouts and curds and was insanely filling. I finished every mouthful of mine because I don't like to let food defeat me, but I was stuffed!!
Other positives: generous on the lettuce and Vietnamese mint and unlimited tea!
Staple local, lots of items on the menu which seems overwhelming at first but they are pretty much all delicious. Try the vietnamese giant pancake. Jackfruit smoothie is also yummy. Always busy, but the food is worth it.
Tuesday night dinner for 4. The restaurant was busy. The decor is just like every other Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria. The service was good and staff were friendly. The reason we came here was for the Vietnamese pancakes, and we were not disappointed. We were given a lot of lettuce and herbs to wrap the pancakes. We also ordered sugar cane prawns, seafood noodle soup and satay skewers. Servings were big. Would go back again.
Good taste. Good quality ingredients. The chair had an odd incline which was distracting to my meal but didn't subtract from it. Would go again.
I am a sucker for red tomato rice and crispy chicken. The combination always has me back to my good old childhood days... It was a favourite when I was little and this place definitely brings back nostalgia. It is a nice cheap eat with things slightly oily, but the tomato and slices of cucumber aim to cut through that. Food is well seasoned and that chicken skin is light and crisp!
I love the Vietnamese pancakes they have here, possibly the best I've ever tried around Melbourne. Well, I haven't tried any other places.. because I can't stop coming back for more!
The banh cuon tom thit (steamed rice paper cake with prawn & pork) is so good even my 3 year old couldn't wait to get his hands on it. Silky and thin sheets of steam rice paper accompanied with fresh produce. This is not our side of town but we're more than happy to make a trip out just to eat their food.
Surrounded by Vietnamese restaurants being situated in Richmond's Victoria Street, Thanh Ha 2 has been here for a while now and continues to be a popular choice. It's been our go-to place in the area for Banh Xeo (Vietnamese Pancake) and Pho (Noodle soup). This was our first time trying the Drop Noodle with crab soup and the betal leaf beef which was good too. It's a little crammed and the service isn't top notch but the food is served promptly and at a good standard.
Been coming here for more than 10 years & thank goodness the menu hasn't changed too much during that time.
The pancakes are so good; the best we have found in Melbourne. The soups are very flavoursome. My favourite dessert is the 3-colour drink.
Economical and fresh... the pick of Vietnamese in Richmond in my opinion.
Very authentic Vietnamese dishes, bun Bo hue never fails and the main dishes are awesome as well.
Service ok and most importantly, CLEAN!!!
This was our chosen go-to on Vic Street for banh canh (rice drop noodle) or banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake). ***Rating of 4 on food alone***
SERVICE: 3/5
Service is quite fast and as 'friendly' as you will get in a casual Vietnamese eatery. They haven't stuffed our orders up the dozen times we have been so thumbs up for that!
FOOD: 4/5
The crab banh canh never disappoints especially at $12! The flavour in the broth makes you keep slurping even when you are full and push the bowl away...you find yourself discreetly pulling it right back to finish it off.
The banh xeo is a decent size, nicely crisp on the outside and satisfying with the fresh salad and herbs it is served with. Dunk in a good amount of that nuoc mam and you're happy as Larry. Only critique is it could have more protein on the inside as it's top heavy with the bean shoots.
DECOR & AMBIENCE: 3/5
The usual. Could be cleaner, could be more vibrant, could be more spacious etc etc. Overall, it is acceptable as I don't come to these sorts of places for ambience, that's usually just a bonus.
KID FRIENDLY - Yes, sufficient space but leave the pram in the car if possible. Can become quite tight and loud during peak times.
I had many bun bo in many places but the bun bo here was unbelievable. The soup was perfect for my taste (in my opinion) and portion was just nice. Finished the last drop. Didnt order the vietnamese pancake but will try next time.
Food 2: delicious authentic Vietnamese food... beef satay skewer is Vietnamese style (made the same way as pork Nam neung)
Decors 1: typical Vietnamese restaurant
Service 0.5: a bit stingy for paper, sauce
Definitely one of the better places on the Vic St strip, at least as far as the food goes. Our chili & lemongrass stir fry was worth a special mention, very tasty with plenty of chili. The service was a little on the slow side though, perhaps not quite enough floor staff to deal with an almost full restaurant, though they did respond quickly when we managed to get their attention.
This Vietnamese restaurant stands up to the stiff competition on Victoria Street, where excellent pho is abundant. The pho broth is rich and flavourful, and the dishes are sized reasonably. One thing that seems weird to mention but is worthy to note is that their chili oil is really extra delicious and tasty. Adds a really nice kick to your dishes without burning your mouth off. Other stand out dishes are: Satay beef skewers, and the seafood pancake (definitely need to share this one with mates).

Very nice food! I think given the prices, the quality of the food was quite good. However I daresay there really wasn't enough on the plates to account for some of the cost of dishes.
I couldn't really fault much in terms of how the dishes were cooked, except that I do wish they had a bit more meat in them. Other than that, the sauces were well balanced, and the vegetables and noodles were cooked just right!
I definitely want to come back here to try the dish that had a very oversized omelette on it (lots of pictures on zomato!)
We had the pork spare rib in Peking sauce, crispy egg noodle, and Mongolian sizzling beef. Shared between 4 with rice.
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 3/5
Cost: 2.5/5 (a bit too expensive for the quantity of food - may just be our experience though)
Service Quality: 3/5
Service Speed: 4/5
I love their rice chicken noodle soup and their amazing chicken coleslaw. Generous serves and always taste super fresh. Service is relatively good. Good for dine in or take away
Very nice Vietnamese food. One of the best spots of Victoria street. That's why it's always full. Ambience and service are good enough to come back.
Serving sizes are big, and easily a great value for money and not skimping out of taste. One of the two Vietnamese restaurants I frequent on Victoria Street.
Their Vietnamese pancake (Banh Xeo) is the best on Victoria Street. A crispy fried batter wrapped over bean sprouts, pork belly and prawns. Wrap it up in a leaf of lettuce with a mint leaf and dip into the fish sauce.
The Banh Khot, which I've added a photo of is also decent, but not as good as the ones from Thanh Nha 9 down the street.
Fatty, crispy, crunchy, fresh, sweet, sour. A serious world of flavours
Ever since I moved further away from Footscray, I was on the hunt for a good Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond - and I think found a replacement! This place is so good and the food comes out so quickly! Will be back to get my Vietnamese fix.
When I come to Victoria Street Richmond to look for delicious Vietnamese noodle soup, I know I can walk into any restaurant and find it. This restaurant proved me correct. I had the sliced beef noodle soup, it was so yummy and filing. Just so happy to have noodle soup in this chilly weather.
As one of the biggest and longest standing hubs of Melbourne's Vienamese community, Richmond is a goldmine for those looking to enjoy the diverse and strong flavours of traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Thanh Ha 2 is a long standing restaurant on the iconic Victoria Street and has been a restaurant that I have been visiting since I was young.
Viet pancake is a must, good value for money and pretty damn authentic.
The whole menu is pretty authentic and undeniable value, give it a try if fresh Viet food is what you're looking for.
I enjoyed every dish served onto the table. Definitely get the value that you pay more. Good portions and service was quick. I love their Banh cuon and they've proved it as being one of their signature dishes. Their vietnamese coleslaw tasted exceptional, with right amount of dressing and a good balance in meats and vegetables.
Just rating the Banh Khot here! I've loved this dish since I was in Vietnam and this place has the best Banh Khot on Victoria St! I can't say much on the other dishes but they looked very average and typical of Vietnamese food on Victoria St.
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions.
On Friday evening, I came here for dinner with my partner.
We ordered chicken spring rolls, glass noodles with crispy chicken, tomato rice with crispy chicken and a custard apple smoothie.
The service here is exceptional, the wait staff are attentive and friendly. It makes me proud to be Vietnamese.
The food was served rather quickly. I have tried the glass noodles with crispy chicken at several other Vietnamese restaurants in the area and this is by far one of the best. The spring rolls were spot on. The custard apple smoothie is perfect.
I had a tiny problem with the side soup (pork broth) which is served with the main dish. It didn't taste very fresh.

My go-to place if I want more Viet/Cambodian food variety than just pho and spring rolls. I think this place does the best Cambodian noodle soup in terms of broth flavour and texture of noodles (nice and chewy, not soft like other places). Regular choices of our from this place include their rice paper rolls, banh xeo pancakes and the rare beef with coleslaw. Yum yum
Delicious authentic Vietnamese Food. We usually get the Banh Xeo here and it's made very well. The pancake is crispy and the ingredients inside is generous and tasty. Fish sauce isn't watered down and taste like its suppose be.
This place is the flipping best. A million menu options - all of them reasonably priced, a good size, and (so far) very delicious. Usually pretty short wait times (though not so short as to be suspicious), and the staff are lovely. Not the very most atmospheric place, but never so loud that you can't have a conversation.
OH I love this place! Anytime I’m staying in the area (I am on catsitting duty) I go to lunch here, especially if I can get a crowd to come with me. It’s a big diverse menu and the place is lively and cheerful with quick service. If it’s really full, which it often is, you get to sit next to other people and ask them about their food, I’ve had several happy conversations about what treasures are on the menu. Last time I went I discovered there was an entire upstairs section with separate rooms! This is no pho palace, there are all kinds of things you should try.
Ate here for the first time today, The Banh Cuon were great, my friends Beef Coleslaw salad was good, my Banh Xeo was good without being great (It was HUGE!). What really gives this 4* for me is the sheer size of the menu, I will definitely be coming back as there are so many things I want to try. I would like to see (as in most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in Aus) is more variety in the fresh herbs you get to go with the dishes!
The food here is excellent in particular the Vietnamese pancake with prawn which is crisp, light and delicious. The rice paper rolls are great too. However the service is absolutely terrible and we couldn't get our tea refilled after 30 minutes of trying. If you are happy to accept poor service for good food then this is a place to try.
Come here often for their pancakes . Flavour tastes good. My son loves to dip in the sauce. A little squishy so can't fit my big pram but overall a good eat
The beef in betel leaf was perfectly crispy and spicy - I wished I had ordered 2 serves of this because as soon as it was finished, I wanted a lot more.
Simple Vietnamese joint with all the usuals plus special steamed rice roll dishes.
Fantastic customer service; all smiles and quick turnaround of meals.
Will return.
Very good Vietnamese. Best Singapore noodles I've had. Great veg omelette. Good service and light on the wallet too! Highly recommended.
This is my second home. Amazing soups (try the stewed beef egg noodle soup) and friendly service. Unlimited tea is a nice touch. Reasonable prices.
It will be a nice place to start a day with Traditional Vietnamese Steamed Rice paper Rolls... Nice and fresh... Love to come back for more everyday...
Recommended by my colleague. She said they made the best small pancake and other signature dishes well-known in the Vietnamese community. Four of us shared steamed rice paper rolls, minipancake, coleslaw salad with chicken, beef in Betal leave with rice vermicelli, and roast quail, every single meal tastes so good! Size is generous with good presentation. Would definitely recommend to everyone who would like to try something beyond pho! They also have an extensive menu for just normal noodle and rice dishes, but I still encourage you to try all their signature dishes!
Been there 3 times and have been very happy with the yummy food. Their prices are slightly higher than other Vietnamese places but you certainly get what you pay for. Freshly peeled prawns, lots of meal in the salad, super fresh food, friendly and efficient service. A place to keep returning to.
Yum yum. Friendly service. Serve is very generous. They are famous for the steam rice paperroll. The coleslaw salad also very fresh. Springroll you can tell is housemade not from factory produce. Definitely be back
Gourmet Globetrotting
+4.5
Best authentic Vietnamese food in town. Lots of unique classics you can't find in many other places like Banh cuon, Banh hoi and Mi quang. All of which are utterly delicious! Vietnamese service to match :)
Favorite Vietnamese restaurant . Favorite dishes of mine are : pho, Vietnamese pancake, prawn spring rolls, Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken
This is my favourite place on Victoria St, which I've eaten at for many years. They have an expansive menu and do everything well. Their giant pancakes are something special and a must try. The ingredients are fresh, the pancake is always crisp, and they are generous and tasty.
Reliable, busy, authentic flavours and friendly service. The pancakes are fantastic and served with plenty of fresh lettuce and herbs, the beef in betel leaf were full of flavour and the vermicelli with grilled pork was delish.
I've been eating here for 28 years when it used to be called Vao Doi, perfect beef soup, beautiful spring rolls, fresh salads, pork chops really small and inconsistent though. fast as service and friendly too. This is my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne. 😃😃😃
Always busy, this place has a clear reputation with many of the regulars travelling in from afar. Many of the diners are also Vietnamese which ticks a box for local approval. The service is prompt, the menu is extensive and it is one of the more authentic. My recommendations go to the Vietnamese pancakes and the pho. A word of caution to the smaller appetites, the portions here are Generous.
The only place in Melbourne that makes authentic Vietnamese dishes, where you can't get at any other Vietnamese restaurant. Banh xeo, banh uot!! And other dishes which I can't remember. You must try if you're a Vietnamese foodie! I've been coming here for 7 years!
Arriving Melbourne on late evening, I had a hard time to find parking spot in city area, then, I decided to drive all the way to Richmond area, some says it's the vietnamese area. As I drive passed through the main road, I see a couple of Vietnamese Restaurant, somehow my attention goes to Thanh Ha2, as it was the most crowded restaurant at that time. Which can be seen from the front window as I drive passed by it.
The place looks very typical Vietnamese restaurant, where you see the stainless steel themos filled with hot tea & the cashier is near the front door.
I ordered a couple of stuff for my family & I.
I think when you eat in a Vietnamese restaurant, the main thing you must order is broken rice & pho, depending what you feel like eating. Also the spring rolls as entree.
& as for dessert tri-color makes a great finale.
In my opinion Thanh Ha2 is a great Vietnamese Restaurant. I've been to Vietnam & tried the local restaurant there, somehow I enjoyed more eating in Vietnamese restaurant overseas. Maybe because of the cold weather it makes the food taste better.
As for the price it's very friendly to your pocket. It's more to overseas undergraduates student's standard restaurant class.
Not every Vietnamese restaurant has banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake) on their menu and even fewer still do it well. This is one of my favourite Vietnamese pancake places in Melbourne and are pretty similar to the ones you get in Vietnam although serving sizes here are larger.
We have been here for too many times to remember. Our go to dish has always been the steamed rice paper, with properly the best of its kind in Melbourne. What makes the dish so good is the fish sauce that comes with it, tasty but not too salty. Their custard apple smoothie is also delicious! The place is pretty crowded at weekend so you may want to book a table in advance.
Has become our go-to for dish variety. Must have Banh Xiao (Vietnamese pancakes). Fresh spring rolls pretty decent. Rustic ambience as expected and suits a relatively quick eat. Not a big fan of the Pho (bit saltier than others on the street) and long queues are two things that can annoy an otherwise pleasant dine-in experience.
I love love love this place. One of the best vietnamese restaurants I've been too. They stick to the classic viet dishes which I like the most rather than the other fusion places nowadays. The place definitely makes the best banh khot, banh cuon and banh xeo. Rockin 10/10
I have often wax lyrical about my fave Vietnamese restaurant, Ha Long Bay. However I think I may have found a rival - Thanh Ha 2. Thanh Ha 2 is also along Victoria St and the main differences I note between it and Ha Long Bay are: it seems to draw a more Vietnamese crowd versus a mixed bag crowd at Ha Long its prices are generally $2 - $4 more than Ha Long the range of Vietnamese food is greater - they have banh xeo and steamed rice cakes, etc whilst Ha Long doesn't.
Fresh, tasty, full of vegies and fast service. We had the Thai chicken Hotpot, beef ginger & lemongrass, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce and honey chicken. All of which were amazing! Will be back
Great Pho. Had the Pho Bo and pork spring rolls. Pho was top notch, great broth and tender beef. Spring rolls excellent. Several others having the seafood pancake - looks good - will go back to try. Friendly staff.
My Favourite Vietnamese Restaurant in Melbourne. Reliably good street-style Vietnamese food, no matter what day of the week. Very broad menu, and I've found the food to be of a consistent standard (way better than the Viet food in Springvale!
You can never go wrong with the Banh Cuon and their massive Banh Xeo there. The drive, and challenge of finding a park is all well worth it for a feed at Thanh Ha!
Don't expect a fancy or spacious interior. There is not a lot of table space, so once you order a couple of dishes, they'll be piling up all over each other on the table!
Overall though, the great variety and scrumptious Vietnamese food still makes Thanh Ha a favourite every single time/
Excellent service and food was perfect! Will definitely return again.
A friend took me there yesterday for lunch.. I can't believe I've never been to it before! Delicious street style food at very reasonable prices! Will definitely go back!
I always walk past this place but never tried it. however, i took some friends here the other week and i have to say it was surprisingly great! service was good and food was amazing.
we all shared a dish of banh hoi with beef in betel leaves, banh beo, banh xeo, pho and bun rieu. the former two dishes are of exceptional quality and closely followed by banh xeo if it was cooked crispy enough. pho and bun rieu are quite average so don't bother.
would definitely return for the smaller speciality dishes and also its vietnamese iced coffee.
One of my favourites. Love the rare beef coleslaw
Worth a try.. After visiting several of the Vietnamese restaurants on Victoria street, for which there are many, we decided to check out Thanh Ha 2 after hearing many good things. It was pretty good, not the best, but worth a visit. Staff were cool, no wait at all, cheap prices. Thanh Thong I think is better in my opinion.
Yum!. By far one of the best Pho we've tried, the stock alone is amazing. The pancakes are also delicious. Can't wait to try some other dishes.
Good overall experience. Pho is nice and so is the squid in tamarind sauce (comes with carrots, snowpeas and lettuce too). Recommended
Yummo!! Great little find whilst in Melbs. Ordered the pho tai, and bun cuon thit. The best was probably the bun Khot (little yellow cups) crunchy, coconutty mouthfuls of goodness
Craving. I am craving the banh cuon, the little yellow things and also the white ones that are usually at the chinese festivals. they have never tasted so so tasty before.
my goodness, i need to go back asap, too bad i don't drive :(
Must Give it a go!!. The banh xeo is perfect. I never try any banh xeo as good as the dish I have here.
Tasty. Rice paper rolls with shredded pork: delicious.
Wonton soup with noodles: simple, clean tasting, surprisingly tasty.
Beef satay: not your average satay. Excellent.
Broken rice with the lot: a little of this, a little of that. Perfect if you don't know what you are in the mood for.
Pancake with pork and prawn: dip the light pastry into the vinegar and chili - awesome.
Great service. Excellent prices. Definite favorite.
Cheap, great Vietnamese food, lots of authentic choices, banh xeo was a popular choice amongst the fellow diners. We had the rare beef salad and vermicilli with pork.
Very friendly staff kept me company while I waited for my friend to arrive. We shared the shredded pork rice paper rolls. They were filling and deliciously minty. Main meals were also good. Cheap, friendly meal, worth a re-visit.
Best Duck Soup on Victoria Street. Fresh tasty and affordable.
Loved the viet pancake so crispy and yum.. Food came out so quick and fast.. Only down fall was the fried rice.. It was too dry seemed like it was cooked the day before and the serving was small. Besides that I would recommend this place..
One of the better Viet restaurants. Apart from the bad service, this place does serve authentic and tasty Vietnamese cuisines. The mini pancake and pancake are my favorites. Try their special broken rice or the special vermicelli; always seem to impress.
Everything is good at this restaurant. huge serves, high quality, extensive selection. the vietnamese pancakes are a reason to come here alone. the beancurd stuffed with prawn in hotpot is also fantastic. I've never tried the 'bloating think cakes' but they look good too.
Great food!. One of my regulars, If I ever am craving any type of Viet food, this is where I'll go
Everything taste at least OK. I've never had a bad meal here before.
Service is rushed as it is always busy.
My favourites are their specialties.. banh cuon :)
We just had Pho and Broken rice with a lot. Price was reasonable in other words it's cheap for their quality of dishes! We will come back for more!!
Fresh and Affordable. Thanh Ha 2 is fast becoming my favourite Vietnamese restaurant on Victoria St. Every time I have visited they manage to satisfy my Vietnamese craving. Their portions are generous and prices are affordable.
Loving their Vermicelli special and the banh cuon. Will come back to try other dishes. Be warned that you should be ready to ignore the rude and brusque service.
Our favourite home style, authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Must try their combination seafood & meat banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes). Servings are generous and great value for money! Although the staff are not the most friendly their food will not disappoint! Tables are sqaushy and small, especially when you are presented with a crepe half the size of the table. If you've never tried Viet cuisine before this would be a great start!
A very good meal. Thanh Ha 2 and previously Thanh Ha 1 are among my favourite vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne.
My opinion is not based on one visit, but on many.
The quality is very consistent, very tasty, and have never been disapointed.
Favourite dishes: Cole Slaw Salads (do not forget to order another basket of shrimp crackers),
Yummy beef in beetle leaves!! In fact all very nice.
Like itttttttt. Love their "banh cuon" and "banh xeo", cheap too, but too small space
Pretty top average restaurant.. Quick service, had spring rolls, egg noodles and corona. HAHAH everything was pretty good but it took 5mins for the waiter/waitress to give us a menu and about another 10mins to get our order.
Yummy and a bit – definitely one of the better Vietnamese places in Melbourne with consistently pleasant flavours and of course an agreeable nuoc cham. Certainly a place I’d return for a cheap, casual eat!
