Stumbled across this wonderfull little restaurant and I have to say we where so very happy we did. Just Yum yum yum. Subtle flavours using the best of fresh produce. Each dish we has was unique well portioned and flavoursome. The service was fantastic and the who team where so very friendly and welcoming. Drooling for our next visit. The best Vietnamese I have had in Melbourne.

Had an awesome night at Paper Plate restaurant. Loved the beef ribs and rice paper rolls. I had smoked salmon and zucchini rice paper rolls. We also had Monk Curry which was really tasty. The desert was creme brulee that also was delicious.

outdoor seating is available and the waiter thoughtfully switched on the outdoor heater for us. note that indoor seating offers more elegant /formal surrounds. the food was authentic, generous in size, delicate and well balanced in flavour. fresh and quality ingredients were used thoughtfully. the pandan crème brûlée was beautiful surprise in that the the pandan flavour brought an unexpected lightness, and elevation to an otherwise rich and common desert. possibly a good place for date night (seared indoors). friendly service. not the cheapest vietnamese food or place on the block but worth it.

Had an absolutely amazing experience dining at this beautiful restaurant. Food was wonderful, service was friendly and attentive. Definitely come back for more!

Tried the chef’s menu for the first time - most of the dishes were great, but they were served very slow. It took us almost 2 hours to get the 5 dishes. Feels like they are understaffed.

The best Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne! The food came out fast and fresh, the flavours were super creative and delicious. I took my wife and kids out for dinner at Paper Plates and we had a wonderful night. The staff were amazing and the restaurant is nicely decorated. My wife really loved the mural!

I had dinner in this splendid Vietnamese Fusion restaurant on a Sunday evening, the staff is friendly, experienced and always ready to satisfy any request without hesitation and with professionalism. Their dishes are a riot of flavors, textures and tastes. Excellent cocktails and food/drink combinations. The pudding dessert is awesome. Highly recommended, they accept walk-ins. I will definitely be back

Over the weekend we had the pleasure of dining here at Paper Plate. The staff were SO attentive, picking up on certain adjustments required to different menu items due to me being pregnant without me having to say anything. The food came out in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious - fresh, perfect portioning and flavoursome. My husband and I will 100% be back for more!

Traditional and modern Vietnamese food, great service and an owner actively involved. This is my go to place and my first recommendation to friends on where to eat in Richmond
Scott McPhillips
Quite possibly the best Vietnamese food in Australia and very affordable. Their beef Pho rivals Viet Nam.

It's the best Vietnamise food so far in Melbourne that I have been eat. Pho super tasty, rice paper so good. Banana sticky rice is the best made me feel back to Thailand. Have to go back and have dinner again when our baby in a good mood staff super friendly thank for today.

The best Vietnamese Food I've had in Melbourne! 6 of us left full and super happy. Staff were lovely and even surprised my partner with a birthday dessert, really appreciated! Will be going again & again.. highly recommend!

Our second visit to this great new spot on Bridge and we took some visiting Sydney siders. Food is thoughtfully prepared and so tasty. Our reservation was originally for 6;30 but we called & changed to 7pm as our guests were running behind - did not enjoy the woman who greeted us inititially pointing out we were late and stomping around the restaurant slapping food down - so service let the place down. But we will be returning with another round of guests early June 😊

Phenomenal modern Vietnamese food, if I could give this more than 5 stars I would! Definitely the best Vietnamese food in Melbourne

Great food and great service. We loved the Vietnamese flavours and we even got to meet the chef! We'll be definitely coming back and recommending it to our friends.

Great yummy 😋 food and cosy place on bridge road. I'll go back to have another go

Very good food and atmosphere! worth a visit if you are on bridge road!

Beautiful chả cá (fish) Hanoi, from the Hanoi region.
The pho has a deep rich, not dense/heavy, flavour in the broth.
The caramelised chicken wing is authentic and not shy on the fish sauce.
As an Australian born Vietnamese where my family is from the south, trying foods from the northern region was amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels like a nice restaurant in Vietnam.

Really lovely staff and a whole experience. I'll definitely come again with more friends.

Used to be a big fan of paper plate. Tonight though is the second time in a row I have waited close to 2 hours for food, been spoken to rudely and had menu items after ordering told weren't available. This is the last time out family eats from paper plates. Disgraceful.
Greg Barber
Delicious food, great service and friendly and helpful staff. We selected the banquet and every course was beautifully presented and yummy.
Denny Patron
Thought the flavors here were pretty good! All the food and sauces were very tasty. Chicken wings were absolutely amazing! Scallop betel leave also very nice. A really good menu lots of yummy dishes to choose from. Only let downs were the pumpkin which was just ok, and the desert which was shocking.
Kiwidakini
The crispy pancake was decent. However, pho was so so (mostly tasted like off the shelf can of stock with soy stirred in - although at least there was no msg) and the rice rolls were forgettable (mostly lettuce). One of those chic joints whose business model is based on marketing over substance.

For these prices, you may as well pay a little more and go to House of Hoi An next door in Windsor, for five times the quality and flavour.
Kate Dougherty
Really tasty Vietnamese menu and pleasant atmosphere. Between two we ordered the pork belly rice paper rolls, the scallop betel leaves, the ba la lot (mince beef in lettuce cups) and the chicken stir fry. I really enjoyed all of the dishes but the scallop betel leaf was a highlight in particular.

We came to Paper Plate for dinner last night and we were all quite underwhelmed with our meals. The food lacked any real flavour or punch and the presentation of the food was lacking. We were disappointed.

We dined on the recommendation of a friend. We loved it. Great food, nice atmosphere and friendly service. We had Vietnamese pancake, pork belly rice paper roll, scallop in betel leaf, fried chicken wings. Everything was delicious and fresh. The wine list was also good. We will definitely come back here!

Came here with my friends on Friday lunch. This place has a a bit of loft style interior with a big bar inside. We had yellow crepe, pork belly paper roll, chicken salad and the Imperior (white roll). Everything tastes very nice and fresh. We recommend the Imperior, so crispy and tasty! But if you want the authentic Viet cuisine, this place is probably not the place we are looking for.

Friednly staff and great vibe !

Travelled to Melb from regional Victoria and went here in October 2018. It’s now January 2019 and I’m still thinking of how great the food was! Service was amazing too, would highly recommend and would go back the next chance I get!
Telyawhat
The food was really delicious! The service, although very nice, was incredibly slow. I would still recommend checking this place out though.
Willzie
Next level Vietnamese cuisine that is absolutely delicious. Enjoyed every single dish we ordered on the night. Flavourful, enough of a punch but not over powering. Will go back and try some other dishes.
Geoff
This is a very good place to eat and relax. The decor and ambience is pleasantly modern, staff and owner/manager hospitable and food very good. Some dishes are quiet imaginative. The schnapper is formidable, standing very proud with spikes and snappy teeth. But we did him! He tasted as good as he looked.
The owner/chef is brother of front/house manager. They are a very solid team. They attract a solid crowd of regular customers who seem to know their food and eateries.
(This is becoming a good location for quality eateries as the neighbours are nearly as good).
I have rated it a 4, but it’s a 4.5. My view, worth a try. Best to book as they fill up at peak times.

How I Feel
It just my personal taste!!!

The owner was very friendly, the dishes cooked well but too salty for us, it may be fine for other customers. I willing to try other dishes there sometime later.

That was a beautiful 9th of December, that ended up perfectly at Paper Plate. Night full of flavour, perfectly handled by Chef Quan who will meet all your Far East desires! Great food, good service and small prices! That’s how Richmond does these days.
Alex
The rice noodles with beef and mushrooms are probably the best noodles in this area and are really plump with a good bite . The service is attentive and effective however food can take a little too long during busier periods. The betel leaf of scallop and lamb shank curry are the other standouts in what is a simple and clever Vietnamese eatery .
Sexybexy_007
Delicious, great food and great wine list, friendly service definite must try if you are in Richmond. Try the chefs selection you won’t be disappointed
Angie
Quirky little restaurant in a stretch of Bridge Road with little Vietnamese fusion cuisine. Crispy banh xeo was a highlight. Squid salad was very flavourful though disappointed there was no wok char as per the menu description. Beef short ribs were a good portion but came out a tad salty and had to order extra baos to use up the meat. Came out to $73 for a light dinner for 3 and no drinks
Rosie
Everything here is absolutely amazing. The service and the food are equally incredible. My favourite mains are the ribs and the red curry, they're so perfectly cooked and full of flavour. One of my absolute favourites in Richmond, so excited to go every time.
Thanh Nguyễn
Stopped over this place accidentally and then tasted the best “banh bao” in Melbourne. I would love to come back Paper again to try other dishes and enjoy the cozy atmosphere there
PleasantPeristalsis
This is an absolutely delicious modern Vietnamese on Bridge Road, Richmond. The pancake is crispy and fresh and the pho broth is thick and soothing. Interesting and quirky interior adds to the experience. Staff is super friendly.
Josie Anderson
The staff were very polite and attentive, all of the food was absolutely delicious! Would recommend the slow cooked beef ribs. Will definitely be coming back!
Two Sheds
This is a lovely fun modern Vietnamese restaurant. Our party of four enjoyed our meal here very much and had a great time. It’s a 4.2 in our estimation.

The decor and fit out is modern and very appealing at Paper Platr. The tables are close together though, not that that bothered us unduly as the night unfolded.

We tried a broad range of dishes and almost all were terrific. The list comprised Bo La Lot, imperial spring rolls, salt n pepper tofu, sticky chicken wings, seared scallop with betel leaf, Saigon style stir fry and pork hock which was a special for the night. All the dishes looked good when they came to the table. All had lovely flavours. Our favourites were the spring rolls, the tofu and the pork hock.

We tried three wines. The Gruner Veltliner, the Chablis and the Christmont riesling. All were very good.

Service was excellent throughout the night from several servers. It was consistently polite, warm and efficient. You could not ask for better.

This is a very good, well run place. It deserves its success noting there was a steady stream of diners throughout the night.

Loved it here! Food was really really good and nicely presented. Slightly on the expensive side, but worth it. Service was nice too. Only downside no free range meat, would be great if they could add that to the mix. I see someone else wrote no split bills, but we did split our bill.
Kein
Lunch set menu pricing was on the high side. $13 for a small bowl of pho, $16 for rice, etc. Comfortable atmosphere, food was decent but not great. If you're looking for cheap authentic Vietnamese fare, might be best to head up to Victoria Street. Also note, no split bills and Amex isn't accepted.
Sarah
This is my new fav!!! The service, staff and of course the food was amazing!!! I was the only vegan in our group and they accommodated everything and it was so incredibly delicious!!! Can’t recommend Paper Plate enough!!!

Amazing newish Vietnamese restaurant run by two brothers who are so welcoming. Warm and friendly environment that is not overcrowded unlike many restaurants that try to fill up the seating so that you can barely move. There are special pegs to hold the winter coats as you enter the door. The kitchen is super clean and turns out a wide range for a limited menu.
I went with a large group so we tried most items on the menu. Imperial Springs rolls and rice paper rolls are made fresh and served with the accompanying herbs, lettuce and dipping sauce.
Caramelised Pork belly is rich sauce and gelatinous fat were cooked to perfection in the clay pot and topped with the perfect soft fried egg, a must try.
Also the Vietnamese pancakes full of meat, vegetables and herbs are to be cherished. We also had the Slow cooked beef short ribs that were moist and melted in your mouth and and so were the caramelised chicken wings.
The only dish that needed a little refinement was the Pho which could have had the base stock cooked a little longer to intensify the flavour. Always hard to get an amazing Pho.
To finish, even though we were so full, we tried a range of the desserts which were all great.
Definitely recommend ‘Paper Plate’ as a restaurant to visit with its delicious menu.

Pls note that the brothers are continuously experimenting and developing their Vietnamese menu and would love to introduce more traditional dishes to its patrons it’s just up to us to ask and want to eat them.
Love this place

This is a lovely little restaurant with reasonable prices. It looks pretty busy; there was only 1 table for two left without a prior booking. My favourite dish was the deep fried spring rolls noodle bowl: Bun. I definitely would have that again. I wasn’t a fan of the pickled beetroot in the soft vegetarian rice paper rolls as they were not sour enough, were too sweet and soft as if they had come out of a can. Otherwise the rolls were lovely but very difficult to eat without each piece completely falling apart in my hand. This was because one roll had been cut into four small rolls and so the structural integrity was lost. But the sauce was really delicious. We also enjoyed the vegetarian Pho but it could have used more depth in flavour. It’s subtlety was quite pleasant- it didn’t pack a wallop of flavour but felt fresh and healthy. Overall, we felt that most dishes could be a lot hotter and that they were a bit safe.
We were very close to another couple’s table so conversations are well within earshot. We “enjoyed” the litany of foods one of them could not physically or mentally handle. A lot of those elements were part of Vietnamese cooking so I don’t know why they chose this cuisine. It was kind of entertaining if you like being tortured with stupidity. LOL

Simple and delicious comfort food. My go to comfort food place. The beef pho is my favorite. Enjoyed the casual, relaxed atmosphere. Will be back for more.. JT We came back for more and discovered many delicious dishes from the soft roll, imperial roll, beef ribs, Vietnamese chicken salad to pancake that were so good. Two thumbs up. JT

I had dinner here with my Dad. We ordered the crab/prawn spring rolls, chicken Vietnamese salad and lamb shank curry. Each dish was good (the spring rolls were my favourite) but they could have had a bit more of a kick / finessing flavours to make them amazing. Also we originally wanted to order the Original Spring Rolls but they were “sold out” (this is at 7pm on a Sunday..). Prices are reasonable. The staff are good. The restaurant itself is nice, although the tables are too close to each other (it made it a bit awkward - we could listen to other table’s conversation!). Despite the negatives, it is overall a pretty good restaurant and we will go back

Stumbled upon this restaurant when we were looking for a lunch place around the area. Nice decor with a mural on one of the wall, exposed bricks on another side and modern design for the bar. The food is similarly fusion-ish in a sense where it sounds like your traditional dishes but the flavour profile is interestingly different. The pho broth does not taste like your traditional flavour but still nice nonetheless. The beef is soft and the salad combination is refreshing and modern.
Wow! Had an awesome dinner at paper plate for my wife's birthday. Met the owner, Dan who was extremely accomodating and took us through the menu, which apart from maybe 3 or 4 items, was completely gluten free! My wife suffers from celiac disease, so she was pretty excited. We had 2 entrees and two mains and every dish was amazing! Atmosphere was relaxing, clean and modern with a trendy feel. Meal was also very well priced for the excellent quality we received. Will definitely be back!

I’ve been here twice now and the food is Yum! Very friendly service tops it all off. The Imperial Spring Rolls are moreish, the fried spatchcock is crispy skinned deliciousness... and I am quite partial to the scallop on betal leaf. All super tasty, fresh food. I will return.
Franks
Food was delicious, heaps of flavour and no MSG.
Tried a few different dishes and can not fault anything. We all really enjoy our lunch, including wine, desert and the traditional Vietnamese coffee.
Relaxed atmosphere and very nice staff.
Overall a great experience.
Katielangeee
Absolutely amazing! So many gluten free options, incredibly tasty and very friendly staff members. Loved the chicken wings, imperial spring rolls and fried whole flounder

We had an office Christmas celebration here. Great Vietnamese food coupled with excellent service.
The menu is extensive as is the drinks list.
Try the Lychee Martini.
Theresa
So close to numerous Vietnamese restaurants, and this little place still manages to set itself apart.

The food here has all the complex flavours you would expect from Vietnamese food, but there is a subtle fusion of flavours and textures that is pure genius.

We had the imperial spring rolls, the stuffed omelet and the monk curry, the ingredient descriptions are deceptively simple, we loved it and left impressed.
Onara
Exquisitely balanced flavours. Paper Plate is everything Vietnamese cuisine ought to be. Subtle, delicate, fragrant, crisp, and the prices are very reasonable too
NayNay
Great ambience. Dimly lit, we sat up at the bar for a casual dinner. We walked in on a whim off the street and they were accomodating. Food and service were amazing! We went off the waiters recommendations and enjoyed the chicken wings for entree, pork belly for main that you wrap on lettuce and a side of greens. Accompanying red wine was enjoyable. Loved everything about this place!
Juan_daful
A gorgeous restaurant, great service and the food was true Vietnamese fare, well presented without being pretentious in taste and in price. Flavours gave me the warm fuzzy feels of mums cooking homely but sophisticated at the same time. The imperial spring rolls were really impressive and the combination pho was not bad. I adored the grilled banana dessert!
Love All Good Food
Love this place, simple but cosy and cute, nice food, clean palate, that means lack of a kick flavour, but it was just right for me as was here at lunch, simple menu but carefully designed as you can tell.
Birdman
Nice joint on bridge rd. Went on a Tuesday night and it was busy which is great to see. Started with the scallop betel leaf which was 10/10 then chicken wings which were delicious. Had the beef short ribs which were very tasty but definitely needed more sauce at the bottom for the rice. The Vietnamese beef salad was also very very good. Great place and will be back.
Sweetlikesugar
I've had take away Beef Pho from here a couple of times which is always good. Thought we would try it out as a done in and try some different things.
To start we shared the scallop betal leaves which we flavoursome - popped in your mouth type flavours. Also shared some caramelised chicken...

Wow...we had dinner last night at Paper Plate. We were a group of six. Dan the manager was extremely friendly and attentive. The service was excellent...just there when needed, water glass constantly filled. The place had a great vibe, cool music and setting and completely full which is a testimony to the great food. The food was amazing. Contemporary Vietnamese food...it was amazing...do not miss the beef short ribs, caramelised chicken wings, pork belly, even the fried rice was great. Plenty of food...great value for money. Will definitely recommend. Thanks Dan and team for an excellent night!

Yum!!! All the food we tried are fantastic. Its so hard to pick a favourite, but if i must, i have to say its bo la lot. The drink was really good too. Service is friendly and helpful. Price is fairly affordable. A new exciting place and we definitely come back
Starvin Marvin
My experience here was fantastic while I was there. Staff are very friendly and attentive refilling water glasses regularly, food was very delicious, I am a Richmond local and know good Vietnamese Pho well and this is extremely good, the broth is very flavoursome. The only criticism I have about my experience there is the annoying elevator music playing songs like Amazing Grace and Scarborough Fair. My experience after was worse however. About 10 minutes after leaving I had to run to the council toilets from having severe painful cramping in my bowel and the soup shot out of me quicker than it went down. I was feeling perfect until I had the soup so I assume it was that which didn't agree with me. It was really good though so I will go back and if the same thing happens perhaps I'll give a third visit a miss!
Casey W
Friendly staff, manager was so nice! Its got a vietnamese home cooked taste to the food.
Had the caramalised pork belly in clay pot. Loved it! Pork belly rice paper rolls were tasty!
Imperial spring rolls were crunchy
Ill definitely be back
Awesome new restaurant on Bridge road, Richmond. Superb service! Very friendly, attentive, professional and knowledgeable staff. There were many food and drink choices. Everything we chose was delectable and well presented. The restaurant had a very welcoming and tranquil ambience. It is a very spacious and bright restaurant with large windows with plenty of light. Loved the Asian deco. It made me feel that I was in Asia. The food portion sizes were reasonable and it helps one not to over eat too. I highly recommend paper plate to anyone who likes to spoil themselves with fabulous food and a great customer service experience. I will definitely be back! A big thank you to all the staff.
Lisa Giles
Came here with a friend, we had both been wanting to try this place for a while. Everything we ordered was just delicious! We shared some pork belly rice paper rolls, a couple of the betel leaf entrees and the lemongrass beef Bun (with extra spring rolls, a must add for me!). I can be a harsh critic when it comes to Vietnamese food, but everything was really tasty!! Paper plate also had really lovely staff, who were great at constantly filling up our water. Always the little things that stand out sometimes. Will definitely be back.
Lostandwandering
Best Vietnamese this side of Richmond! Great chicken wings, banh xeo and those imperial spring rolls are worth the calories! Cocktails are good too. I went there for dinner and went back for lunch the next day, that is how much I like this place!
Myk Law
Fresh, clean Vietnamese food. Have been here twice now and both times have left satisfied. So far have eaten the pork belly rice paper rolls, lemongrass chicken and beef, chicken wings and fried rice. All were yum! Service is great, always attentive and friendly. This will become a local favourite.
Cessna Sarathee
Super tasty my favorites are pork belly, spring roll and banana sticky rice made me feel like my mum cook it at home. Nice place to have lunch and dinner. Nice service❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tom
Fantastic food and amazing service.

The Contemporary Vietnamese food with a twist is tasty, yet light and refreshing (not like some viet food where you feel like you've ingested a bucket of salt)
Sopheatsfud
Didn't know what to expect from Paper plate, as my boyfriend and I spontaneously decided to give this new Contemporary Vietnamese restaurant a try.... thank god we did! We were blown away by everything this place had to offer, from
The food, the service, and the cost of it all. Every single meal we ordered was perfect, our favourite being the beef salad and the spring rolls! Reminded me of the ones I ate in Hanoi... amazing. Will be back!
Yalong Sun
Dishes taste very close to Red Spice QV and Jinda Thai but surprisingly at a even more affordable price.i think the rating definately will go over 4 on Zomato in the future.
recommendations are spatchcock, imperial spring rolls, wings, and beef short rib.
@twogoodtoresist
Paper plate is one of the main reasons that bridge road is quickly becoming a foodie haven. With dishes designed to share, the flavours and options at this restaurant are fantastic. Cocktails are delicious!! Top dishes included the Vietnamese pancake (available in a vegetarian option too) and the tofu salad however all dishes we tried were phenomenal. We left full, happy and ready to come back!
Jessica
Sensational!!!

Cocktails were incredible & serving sizes large. Highlights were the chicken wings, stir fried veggies, pork belly & banana sago dessert. Authentic & so tasty. Plus service was brilliant too with a great ambience.

Can't wait to go back!!
Luella
Great food and ambience. Pork belly was highlight of the night. Generous serving while flavours are spot on. Will definitely come back. Great ambiance for date nights and quiet talk.
Denny
Friendly staff and amazing service! The pork belly, scallop betel leaf and Viet coffee is a must try! Will be back to try out the rest of the menu!
Shanan Dean
Outstanding food! Good service and a nice atmosphere. Also, if ya into Vietnamese style coffee, then this is a good place to try. Will go back for sure.

Excellent Food.
Friendly Service.
Lovely Atmosphere.
Highly recommend.
Went out for my birthday to this grand opening, I was surprise that their food are so tasty. All my expectation was blown away.
If you love Asian Food, this is definitely the place.
Geoff
Great very fresh food, excellent friendly service in an atmosphere where you could have a conversation comfortably. Imperial spring rolls great, chicken coleslaw salad fresh ( a little more dressing required)
John An
First time having imperial spring rolls and it did not disappoint definitely a must have along with the bo la lot, an improved and well presented version of traditional Vietnamese street food.

All the desserts were also amazing, didn't get sickening like most desserts I usually have.

Service was amazing, food came out in a timely manner, definitely worth a visit.
Tiffany
Amazing and flavourful food. Great service. I especially enjoyed the bo la lot, crispy pancake, ribs and all of the desserts. I wish I had more stomach space to try everything that they had to offer. Will definitely be coming back and bringing other family and friends.
Barry Johnston
New Bridge Rd restaurant. Lovely ambience. Great service. Try the caramelised chicken starters. And can't go past the beef short ribs for mains. Yum!!
Tzeni
Had dinner here last night and just loved it.
There is a great vibe to this place. Started with a cocktail and 333 beer. All the dishes were well presented, generous and very tasty. It's well worth a visit if you are after Vietnamese food that is modern and not like we have been eating for so long in other parts of Richmond.
Would recommend this place to vegetarian/pescatarians as well. I found lots of things on the menu. Can't wait to go back.
Melbourne Explorer
Melbourne Explorer visited Paper Plate for their grand opening. Situated on Richmond's popular Bridge Road, Paper Plate is bringing a Vietnamese flare to an increasingly diverse foodie hub.

An asian inspired cocktail list greets you for dinner. My recommendation is the Mekhong Sour with whisky, citrus, egg whites and cinnamon, or their famous espresso martini with condensed milk and Vietnamese coffee.

To start was the caramelised chicken wings, vietnamese crispy pancake, with pork and prawn, and the imperial spring rolls with prawn and pork wrapped in baby oak, fresh herbs, green papaya and pickled carrot with Nuoc Cham.

If that wasn't enough, we finished with the caramelised pork belly clay pot with soft boiled egg, green mustard pickle, spring onion and garlic oil.

Well worth and visit and we will definitely be back.
