Review Corner Hotel - Richmond

Phillip Edward Ness
5 stars for the upstairs bar and restaurant. 1 star for the live music venue downstairs. At full capacity, I turned a corner and it was like walking through the gates of hell. They need to sell less tickets. The restaurant is really nice, great food and really nicely put together. Interior design is top notch. Downstairs, who thought placing columns throughout the viewing area was a good idea? You will be soaked in the sweat of a stranger who favours organic deodorant. The sound is atrocious. Upstairs has a fantastic ambience. Never have I been so torn when writing an interview.

It was a long wait after many lockdowns and cancelled shows That we waited patiently for this Extraordinary guitarist by the name of Daniel Champagne and his support act Flynn Gurry Two amazing young men doing what they love They are both superstars in their own rights Wow you really have to see them to really understand what l am saying Remember their names And when you get the chance to see them Don't Hesitate You will never regret it for a minute

Great venue for some live music. A great rooftop bar too for drinks afterwards. Staff were very friendly and fast at getting orders out. Would highly recommend a weekend night out here

Great venue, even has zero alcohol beer for drivers now. Sound was great, service and food were excellent. Well ventilated for covid, lovely helpful staff.

Wow talk about a venue. Went there recently for a gig, very spacious, good atmosphere, drinks are decent prices. Surprisingly clean for a older Bar. Can't wait to go back.

Great pub. I have gone to the Corner Hotel on about 20 occasions for a mix of company and personal events and it has always been a consistently great experience. They often have live music tend to have some reasonably good artists. The food is a tad pricy but of a good quality. Great place for a Friday pub lunch.

A very accessoble place for gigs! I visited for Groove Tunes in my mobility scooter. There's a wheelchair accessible entrance around the corner. An accessible bar was also next to the bar. An elevator goes to the rooftop (which is GREAT! So many Melbourne venues, especially rooftop venues, are stairs for ableds, only!) Screens next to the stage showed lyric vids and an auslan interpreter was there for the gig. There is also a lift for disabled artists to safely access the stage. Unsure if all Corner gigs will be as accessible but there will still be an accessible enterance, elevator, lift to the stage, and the staff were SO friendly and helpful to my needs. Highly reccommend.

One of the finest live music bars in Melbourne. Nothing fancy, not big, but a great stage and sound experience and super convenient

For a pub the meals are a bit pricey. I had a cauliflower and chickpea tagine $28 it was cold and for some unknown reason had olives in it (not listed on the menu) . Once I’d separated the olives (yuck) it tasted nice but could have dine with a bit of yoghurt on the side. A couple of times st the bar I was short changed $1, not worth making a deal about but still annoying. Otherwise s great venue.

Great joint, but I don't go to the upstairs bar anymore. Just have a few pints downstairs when City are playing at home etc. The food upstairs is overpriced and as others have noted it's now a mainstream pick-up joint without much character, other than the trains rumbling past. The band venue is great though...one the best. Had some great nights there...including last Thursday.

Great venue, however the failed to fulfil a basic booking request that I asked for well in advance (2 weeks notice). I called up and requested to reserve 2 tables in the beer garden for a party of 20 people, and was told by the staff that it had been done. I then called up 3 days before I attended to make sure the booking was correct and I was assured that my tables would indeed be reserved in the upstairs beer garden. However, when I arrived much to my dismay I found that the tables they had reserved for me were inside and in a different section of the bar to the beer garden. This was really disappointing as the only reason I wanted to have my event there was to be in the beer garden. On the night I spoke to multiple staff to see if they could could remedy the situation, or if they couldn't find me someone who could, but alas none of them were any help! Such a shame that such a great venue has sub-par staff who cannot fulfil basic booking requests! Disappointing night.

Awesome place, diverse customers, lively atmosphere in the upstairs bar and the added bonus of also seeing great bands downstairs. A piece of authentic Melbourne pub culture, a gem in this age of superficialities.

Just dropped in to the rooftop bar for a quick dinner. I had the black bean burger and hubby had Patti Smith beef burger. Both were awesome with loads of golden chips. Atmosphere was great although the DJ played a little too loud but I think that’s normal. My only gripe was, I had a Pimms and lemonade which they advertise as 2 parts lemonade to 1 part pimms. I don’t believe that to be the case with my drink. We usually do 3 parts lemonade to 1 part pimms and our drinks are much stronger. Other than that I would certainly recommend

Your tap beers are flat and the bar staff don't seem to be able to understand pouring a basic tap beer. I bought cans after 2 flat beers.

My first impression was good, but then I went to the bar,, the service was terrible, I was the only one at the bar waiting while there was four staff behind the bar I felt invisible it was embarrassing!! Then instead of being friendly or engaging my drinks were just put down in front of me without even a 'Thanks for Coming' your staff need to b trained the old hospitality way, engage ur customers at least with a smile!

What a fantastic pub!!!! Came over from Perth for the Grand Final and this place was recommended and thanks for the hospitality staff and security were absolutely awesome

Would of given 5 stars, but the lack of interference by security/venue staff (whichever responsible) when idiots were trying to crowd surf while knocking into and kicking others in the head. They were just let back into the audience to do it again and again during the band Besides that, great venue

Just so impressed that The Corner has acted swiftly and cancelled Riff Raff's show scheduled for June 8. There is no room in music for the drugging and sexual assault of women. Brava!!

The Corner is a great place to see your favourite bands. The Corner has good variety and can showcase new bands to the public. Facilities are good. It would be helpful if there were a few more chairs for other people.!!! Dinner in pub beforehand is good food.

I spent three hours having dinner & drinks before going downstairs to see Pseudo Echo. Once again your security told me to wait outside! After speaking to 5 different security people & the anger it caused to me & other patrons who also had dinner, I finally was "allowed" to go in. It's frustrating & disappointing that you don't have security during the time the band was playing to control the trash that pushes through the crowd to get to the front! Obviously your "establishment" wants to bring people in to see these bands, too bad you can't remove the trash that ruin the night! No need to reply, I won't be back!

Attended an event at the Corner Hotel and the staff were amazing, cannot recommend more highly. Thank you for taking the time to make my visit such a wonderful one. Annette

Good venue to see a band But you could die of thirst waiting for some of the bar staff. Either not interested in serving. Or not paying attention to who's next to be served!

Great night watching the Iron Maidens. They blew the roof off. Great band, good venue.

My first time here with friends . Drunken morons wolf whistling , grabbing me , poking me in the face , broken glass all over the floor , not enough staff presence on the dance floor upstairs , glasses in the bathroom all night and not cleared . If people are drunk and messy STOP SERVING THEM! Or evict them! I understand it’s busy and staff can’t be everywhere at once but it was an awful experience . I certainly wouldn’t come back on a Friday or Saturday night to let my hair down. Awful .
