With covid up and running (prior to victoria's second lockdown) it was really hard to find a restaurant to dine in. Luckily, laffe was open and we easily booked a place to eat with a phone call.

Food:
🍱 Mezza: mixed dips, tabouleh, falafel, meat cigars and rakakat jibneh ($38.00)
🌭 Makanek (gf): spicy lamb sausages topped with a lemon and sumac dressing ($12.00)
🍢 Kafta (gf): beef and lamb mince skewers mixed with vegetables and spices ($25.00)
🦐 Kraidis bi toum (gf): grilled prawns, fresh herbs and lemon ($30.00)
🍟 Fries (gf, v, ve): $6.00

Ordered:
We had so much food, amounting to almost ~60pp. Completely filled on savoury, grilled meats and everything fantastic about lebanese food, we left incredibly happy and more cultured.
Their makanek is a house special, which meant we wouldn't be able to get it anywhere anywhere else! It was flavourful and we definitely enjoyed dialing it back with the refreshing dips we got from the mezza.
The prawns themselves were generous and large. Incredibly juicy, the dusty grilled flavour added the right about of smokiness to the dish.

We demolished everything with a fancy hack of wrapping everything up into a kebab style wrap, even the waitress was surprised 😆.

Laffe is a great place to experience some great lebanese food, in a fantastic atmosphere and friendly service.

This restaurant is such a gem on Bridge Rd! The service is familial and warm, the food is always so tasty and fresh, and the servings are ridiculously generous! Caters to vegan and GF diets so well - I never ever leave hungry and was blown away by all the choices the first time we went. Highly recommend!!

One of the best Lebanese places I think I've been to. We ordered the smaller of the two banquets, and pretty much enjoyed every dish (although the meat cigar was the least favourite). Food came out steadily, with lovely attentive service. Would highly recommend.

We hadn’t been here since they moved but I’m thrilled to say that although the premises is new (and beautiful) the menu and service haven’t changed. Both are glorious.

We ordered the Banquet for three and it was all delicious. The servings are generous and perfectly seasoned.

The service was prompt but super friendly.

Nearly 21 years in the restaurant business - they must be doing something right! We’ll be back.

This was an unexpected surprise. We walked in and was welcomed by a face splitting smile by, I assume, mum aka heart and soul of the place. She was so lovely and explained everything to us, told us what to order and let us realise that mother knows best.

I forgot to take a photo of the rose martini. But omg, if like rose and martini, raise your hands and ask for one, or two...

The food came tumbling out in quick succession. We had babaganoush (good smokiness), cheese cigars (crispy and very drool worthy), coriander chicken (juicy and tasty), fried cauliflower (little meh, but no really complaints). We finished off with some Turkish coffee and rolled home.

Great feed, and if I had a Lebanese mum, I would be one happy human.

Really enjoyed dinner at this place. Menu is extensive with so many delicious choices. Well designed for sharing with a mix of vego and meat options. Fairly quiet for a Friday night so we were able to stay for hours. Staff were attentive and friendly. Good wine list.
Would come here again.

A group of us went for lunch yesterday. We were the only ones there and the service and food were both excellent.

One of our group is coeliac and she did not feel limited for choice as most of the menu is gluten free. So we could all have the halloumi, they even substituted rice flour for the wheat flour coating, it was delicious like everything else we tried.

Came in for a very quick feed with a friend of mine on a rainy night and we were welcomed straight away by a very friendly staff member. Very cozy layout with the perfect lighting. Food was delicious and quick. Could also see the staff working away preparing the food for the night. Favourite dish would have to be the cauliflower. Was delicious. Corkage is also available at a cheap rate so make the most of it 😎

After seeing The Dear Luncher review this place a while back I just had to try.

We had the mixed mezze with dips that were absolutely delicious especially the eggplant dip. Served with ample amounts of pita, a tasty tabbouli, meat cigars and cheese cigars. It was absolutely terrific.

The chicken skewers with rice were some of the best chicken skewers I’ve had and it was all full of flavour. I can’t recommend this place enough! And I can’t believe I haven’t been here before!

We had a great dinner at Laffe. We started with the babaganoush and dips. The babaganoush was beautifully smoky. The only cricism i can give of the whole dining experience is the bread for the dips. It was packet turkish bread, which isn't bad, but it didnt match the quality of the rest of the food.

We had the kibbeh and chicken wings for our starter. Both delicious. A fair amount for the price too. The chicken was really juicy and spiced with chermoula- very fragrant.

For main, we shared the lamb, which was the best dish of all. Fresh veggies, succulent and aromatic lamb with rice. We also had a salad and the cauliflower as a side.

The meal was a pleasure to eat, and the service from the waiters was fantastic- the right amount of attention and lots of smiles. We will definitely be back. It cost just under $100 for two of us (with a glass of wine each). We left very happy. Thanks for a great dinner!

I came into this restaurant casually as I was trying to find a place on bridge road.
I'm so glad I did because it is amazing.
From the get go, we had amazing Service.
The baba ghannouj came out tasty and full of flavour.
We ordered the barramundi with walnut and tahini sauce and this was the standout dish. The fish was cooked to perfection. That sauce was a delight on the fish and to top it off with that crispy base was just like heaven in your mouth. It just melts away with every taste.
We also had the tawook which is Great! I always get worried about chicken skewers being dry but it was still juicy and tender.
Tabouli was as I expected.. and I still really enjoyed it!
Overall a really great experience and a great find. I will most definately be back again to try other dishes. Keep up the good work!

Came for a weeknight catch up with a friend and it didn't disappoint! Sharing the mezza was a great idea as we got to sample delicate crispy falafel and moreish meat cigars in addition to some tasty dips. The fried cauliflower and eggplant with tomato rounded out the rest of our dinner. Will come again!

My husband and I both did the banquet menu, and they were kind enough to accommodate one vegetarian and one meat eater. It felt like we got to taste everything on the menu, and everything was delicious. My personal favourite was the mushroom dish. The service was great, only downfall was that the wine tasted like it had been open for a bit too long.

Having recently moved to Richmond, We decided to come to Kanzaman on the weekend and the place was buzzing. I found the decor authentic and pleasant. We were welcomed by lovely staff and the waitress was very interactive and positive. We ordered a lot of the traditional items on the menu, like hummus, tabouleh, makanek for entrees and kibbeh and koosa for the mains. We found the food, especially the tabouleh to be fresh and crisp. Well done guys can't wait to come back.

"It's a rainy afternoon, in 1990. The big city....

....geez it's been 20 years. Kanzy - you were so fine"

A charming place for a Middle Eastern banquet, you cannot go wrong. A banquet is usually the way this particular collection of lads do their lunching or dinnering. We opted for the $55 per head banquet, which includes fish dishes. The highlights for your Dear Luncher were the lamb shish kebabs and the felafel. The pictures do not do these dishes justice.

I have been here for years, the quality of food remains the same as I remember it. My only recommendation is 'don't eat too much bread'. I know it can be challenging especially when they put delicious dips in front of you.

Attended a function at Kanzaman & had the banquet. Started off with the hommos, just the way I like it, very smooth & tasty. The other dips & tabouli were ok. The cheese triangles were nice, nothing special but the meat cigars were soggy & lacked flavor. Then the meat dishes came out, chicken skewers were ok, a suggestion would be to put the garlic on the side for those who don't like garlic, meat skewers were nice, melt in your mouth but some extra flavor would be great. Kafta was the best of all three, it was moist & succulent. Dessert was Turkish delight & baklava. Then came the mhalabiye (a custard like dessert served on a bed of Kataifi, I think)which was one of the best I have had.

Update 16/2/18: visit to Laffe by Kanzaman (as opposed to the previous version of the restaurant).

The menu's pretty much the same (there are two things on the menu both called "Tawook" that describe completely different dishes), the location and look is different.

We had the BBQ chicken wings (Jawaneh), falafel, mixed grill, fried cauliflower and sultania for our mains/entree.

The chicken wings were nicely cooked, but probably could have benefited from a little more seasoning.  The mixed grill - one of each: lamb, chicken and beef skewers - was underwhelming in terms of size, but all of the meat was cooked well and was tasty.  No warning was provided that the skewers were going to be hot.

The sultania was very nice.  The lamb fillets were cooked very well (to a nice level of medium) and had an excellent flavour.

The fried cauliflower was also very nice.

The dishes are all on the smallish side.

Saving the worst for last...  My partner decided to order the "rice pudding" for dessert.  This is usually a pretty safe bet, but if I was trying to describe it I would say: rice milk with a lot of thickener.  Essentially, a glass full of unsweetened brownish goop with a layer of coconut and nuts on top.  Neither of us could stomach more than a spoonful.  We asked where the rice was and the waitress told us that it had been "blended up"... absolutely awful.

Aside from the dessert, all good.  Rating stays at 3.5.

Note: this review is for the previous incarnation of the restaurant: Kanzaman.

Good and consistent.. I've been here a few times and never gotten around to writing a review. In all instances I've had no complaints. The food is tasty and well-cooked, the wait-staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable and the prices reasonable.

With a couple of friends we shared the Jawaneh (BBQ Chicken wings), Cabbage Rolls, Fotr (mushrooms), lamb skewers and stuffed zucchini.

The chicken was pretty much as you'd expect - lightly spiced and tasty. The cabbage rolls (x2) were served in a tomato sauce that added quite a bit to the dish. The mushrooms (and I'm not usually a fan of dishes that are primarily mushroom-based) were also very nice, especially with the flatbread that came with the meal.

The skewered lamb was very nicely cooked - no sense of chewiness, it was moist and tasty. The stuffed zucchinis (x3) were also nice, but it was probably the tomato and mint sauce they came nestled in that made the difference.

All in all, a satisfying meal for less than $30 a head.

Very gluten-free friendly.

The food here is amazing. Can't fault any of it. I question how 'Lebanese' some of it but that is a small side point given the impeccable flavours.
Slightly pricey, service was good until they forgot a tabbouleh which came after the mains and then refused to give change.
Would definitely recommend though.

Great middle eastern food combined with great atmosphere. Wish the menu was just a little more diverse and wish the staff smiled a little extra, but that still doesn't stop me from coming here regularly. Good portioned meals although for big meat eaters you may need to order a couple of things.

The food was fantastic. We had the regular banquet - and each item was flavoursome and unique. The portions made it just the right amount of food without being too much. The banquet was a great way to sample a great range of dishes on the menu, so that you get an idea of what you might like to order next time. The entrees were all delicious - especially the baba ganoush. The lamb eye fillet main with rice and lentils were beautiful - as was the Lebanese custard for dessert (which I've never tried before). The service was prompt and very friendly and welcoming. I will definately go back again! Thanks Kanzaman for a fantastic dinner/evening!

Yay for Kanzaman. Thank you Kanzaman for being in Richmond. Before I discovered Kanzaman I used to treck all the way over to Mezza in Brunswick and honestly, it wasn't really worth it. Mezza is actually the one that's over-priced and ordinary whereas Kanzaman's food is interesting, delicious and a great price. I felt I had to say something. Thanks guys!

The KanZaman Can.... KanZaman is located in double fronted premises on bustling Bridge Road, and seats around 140 diners. The Middle Eastern theme is prominent with vivid shades of red and colourful murals adorning the walls.

I visited on a Saturday night for a birthday party in one of their private rooms which also featured their distinct décor and two low tables with accompanying bench seating and cushions. With a little over twenty guests in attendance, it was decided to order the banquet ($42 per head) which was probably a practical approach.

First up they brought out plates of Hummus, Babba Ganoush, Tabbouleh and some baskets of Pita bread. I'm no stranger to Lebanese food, and the dips were some of the tastiest I'd enjoyed, especially the Babba Ganoush which had that lovely smoky flavor. The Tabbouleh was also exquisite and tasted incredibly fresh and balanced.

This was followed by some plates of falafel balls, which were certainly nice enough, if not remarkable. Next were Sambousik, which are small filo pastry parcels with a filling comprising mild feta cheese, mint and onions and Lahem Bi Ajeen, a filo pastry 'cigar' filled with lean lamb, vegetables and spices.

Moving onto the Mains, we were served Sultania (Lamb eye fillets that had been sautéed in pomegranate molasses, mustard seeds and herbs and char grilled) which were served on a plate of lentils. Shish Tawook (Marinated chicken fillets, barbecued and topped with a garlic, herb & lemon dressing) arrived atop cinnamon rice. The sizeable skewers of lamb and chicken were all perfectly cooked and hard to fault in terms of tenderness or flavour.

Our waiter enquired whether we'd had enough to eat, and offered another dish on the house which turned out to be the Kafta Meshwee, Char-grilled lamb mince mixed with parsley, onions, herbs and spices served on skewers. Not sure I needed more to eat at this stage, but it was a nice gesture and yet another very tasty dish.

Dessert comprised a few plates of Baclava & Turkish Delight, and a dish by the name Mahalabia, which was basically a custard topped with pistachio nuts and orange blossom syrup and not unlike a panna cotta in texture and appearance.

Being a large group booking in a private room makes it harder to assess the standard of service and plating of dishes you'd experience as a regular diner. Nevertheless, the food itself was all excellent and definitely up there with the best Lebanese fare I've experienced. Would like to return with a smaller group at a standard table, and see how KanZaman performs.

N.B. If you happen to be dining on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll be treated to some highly interactive belly dancing. I think our birthday boy is still recovering from his attempts to keep up.
