Review The Vegan Shack - Richmond

Elisabeth MC
Nice and cozy vegan cafe. A bit small and narrow, but with a terrace outside and more tables at the back. Staff is very friendly! Menu offers a good variety of options, and at least on Saturday's, they have some specials. I highly recommend the meatballs, they are just amazing! Tacos are great too! And the pancakes are delicious (and not excessively sweet)! They have also delicious sweet treats and variety of lattes. Almond milk is handmade. They offer a very good deal for lunch menu during weekdays (I haven't tried). Not expensive! Take away available.

Very enjoyable food. Savoury items are tasty and desserts sweet and delicious. The toasted sandwiches were made with great bread and fresh flavour combinations. If you are eating in and trying to avoid plastic, ensure staff know or your drink may come in a take away container. Outside tables have a view down Swan Street towards the city.

Came across this place and it just screams tropical island vibes all over! They serve amazing vegan dishes with balanced flavours. I had the My Mate Reuben sandwich and it was yummy. Keen to return and try their sweet treats like the homemade maxibon!

This place has a verycosy atmosphere, The waiters were lovely and super knowledgeable of the menu - super welcoming. I ordered the meatballs and mash it was moreish but the perfect serving size; I also had the snickers smoothie which was ridiculously delicious and super filling- keep this in mind when ordering!

Went for a birthday brunch midweek. Owner made us feel really welcome and special staff were lovely . Brilliant coffee and food. Make sure you try seating in the back and desserts in the cake display. $10 toastie deal was brilliant!!

Great food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere! Jansen makes a mean breakfast (and the best hangover cure sammies)! The coffee is always made to perfection with a wide range of mylks, the homemade almond being my personal fave! So glad to have found this vegan gem!

Wholesome goodness on a plate with a dash of tasty and excellent customer service to accompany Being plant based or vegan doesn't mean bland food - it can be delicious and vegan shack shows Melbourne whatsssup! Really good menu selections and the delivery was on point The sandwiches were onolicious and there's a good mix of bowls and smoothies to satisfy the most fickle of palates Namaste and Ubuntu ❤️
Jess
Absolute stellar place! Friendly and wholesome vibes from the staff, cosy dining area, food and drinks that never disappoint, now open on Mondays! Though small at first glance, there is ample space out back if you require a bigger-ish table. Lattes are amazing and leave you feeling pretty good (but sad cos you've downed it too fast). Loving the $10 menu they currently have, especially the "cheese" toasties! Do give this place a go, small businesses deserve love, especia7 lly if they're wholesome AND cruelty free xx

Great food and fantastic friendly service. The Snitty was my favourite until I tried the Beetroot burger which was recently added to the menu. Thanks to all the staff for always being helpful and accommodating when I can't leave the office for more than 5 mins.
Rosie Rose
This place does not disappoint! Was hard to decide on what to order but the staff were more than helpful with their suggestions. The dishes taste just as amazing as they look in the photos! Warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly service. We’ll be back for sure!!

Seriously - if you haven't been to Vegan Shack you are missing out. Not only are their Muffins absolutely delicious (oh my god - sooo good) - the service there is second to none. They go out of their way to look after each and every person that goes there. Absolutely love the place and look forward to going there every week.

🏚: Vegan Shack
📍: Free delivery within 5km radius

———————————————————

📝: Always loved this amazing little cafe in Richmond. They were probabblby the ones who changed my whole perspective on vegan food and how delicious it actually is.

❤️: Loved the On Mushies Toastie with mushrooms, cheese, and caramelized onion. I also added a little extra pesto, because why not?!

The Vegan Shack is a vegan restaurant originated from food trucks. This restaurant makes creative vegan foods with unique organic vegan ingredients. I wondered when I checked on Instagram about how to sell delicious vegan / gluten free banana pancakes. The atmosphere of the bright and positive staff was impressive.

But, the pancake I ordered was almost tasteless. The taste was very boring because it had no salty or sweet.
I thought I would have another menu next time.

Opening Hours
Weekdays 11:30 - 09:30
Weekends 11:30 - 10:30

Website
https://www.fondamexican.com.au/

Instagram
https://www.instagram.com/fondamexican

Location
31 Flinders Ln, Melbourne VIC 3000

----

# Instagram : __se_a

# Blog : https://blog.naver.com/thefruitfruit

# E-mail : befruitfruit@gmail.com

# NAVER TV : https://tv.naver.com/thefruitfruit

# YouTube : www.youtube.com/channel/UCroYtXVANjt51_DCGXTqJlg

Super cute and cosy cafe with decor that makes you feel like you’re in a little tropical shack, hidden away from the world!

The staff were amazingly helpful and lovely, the food was delicious and fresh and the service time was really fast — especially considering I visited at lunch time on a weekend!

Would love to go back and try more off their menu! They looked to have great options for takeaway too.

What a place ! Going there every weekend and when I can during the week. Breakfast - lunch...doesn’t metter I could do both every day!
Amazing service, smiling faces around the cafe, impeccable food.. what else would u ask for?
The coriander soap in the bathroom needs to be changed ... that’s all. :)

Love vegan shack.
YOU MUST TRY IT!

Peace.

First time going today and I can happily say that I'll be back again often. Food was delicious, food arrived quickly and eaten even quicker. Fantastic quality. #amazingveganfood

Hands down one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. Jans and the team provide the best service and are such a delight.

You can't go wrong with the pancakes or waffles. They change up the flavours every week. But I do also love the Sunshine Bowls - the Tulum Burrito Bowl is insane.
Sometimes I just feel like a toastie though and this is my go-to spot. I think I've tried all the combinations now. Go with a friend and order a sweet and savoury one to share - my top flavour combo's = the Basil Smash (almond pesto, tomato, smoked mozzarella) and the Almogeddon (almond butter, strawberries). Just yum!

And, if you can get your hands on a Notella croissant, definitely grab one.

All vegan, cruelty-free and extremely delicious.

Second time visiting.
Friendly staff and delicious food.
Looking forward to trying everything on the menu.

All the staff working there are so friendly and the food is so delicious and you know it’s made with a lot of love!
Just Keep Eating
Years ago, if someone asked me to go to a vegan joint with them, I would have said thank u, next. But oh, how the times have changed and now I’m the person that’s asking my friends to try out vegan restaurants. At this point, I suppose you’re wondering, is she a vegan and the answer is no, I am deeply devoted to clogging my arteries with HSPs and chicken nuggets on a weekly basis. However, I do have an appreciation for some of the fantastic vegan options that are currently out there and the Vegan Shack have PLENTY.
KindnessThroughFood
Since the first week it opened its doors and got my taste buds on their delicious food I have been returning ever since! I’ve been through the Schnitz and Rueben Sandwiches, Nacho and chickn burgers, tacos, big brekkie, toasties and most recently the green goddess bowl! All 11/10 flavour!

Staff are friendly especially Jansen and his mum. Love a chat and a laugh and the Shack vibes are a nice touch. Prices are a on the high end but what you would expect for the Richmond area. I rather some extra dollars go to a cafe who

Over my vegan year and half of change to my lifestyle they have definitely showed me there is no sacrifice on food and flavours eating with compassion and inspired a lot of my own cooking. Thanks team!

Food with love.
Me and my partner needed a special birthday brekkie which turned into more of a lunch and we are so glad our internet hunts led us here.
The wholesome welcome received here is one of the more genuine I've experienced in hospitality in a long while.
We had a beastly pancake stack and a breakfast muffin/sandwich and throughout it was delicious. Not overly sweet, not overly grubby, exactly what we wanted.
Thanks Jansen (& Mum), see you next time

Always delicious meals and great service. Generous quality servings in a warm timber setting. The staff are pros at a range of alternative milks for your coffees, and the banana bread and toasties are the best!

Vegan Shack serves some delicious food. I just wish for the menu to be cheaper. I can’t help but keep coming here. My favourite items are the toasties and the burgers. I loved every single one of the toasties I have tried.

I was surprised how early they open up. It can get pretty busy during the afternoons. The cafe is quite small, and I find it hard to sit in a comfortable area, especially in the single seating areas. However, there are space outside at the front and back of the cafe. I do like the design of this place, I really get that vegan vibe.

The staff was very bright and welcoming.

Decent food but kinda bad experience

FOOD: I ordered the Snickers Bowl and added some peanut butter while my friend ordered the Green Bowl. My Snickers Bowl was... alright. Tbh, it was good but nothing special. In fact, I was abit turned off to have some unblended ice chunks in there and also, I’m abit grateful I didn’t order extra granola because it was so tough, it could’ve broken my jaw. I thought the extra peanut butter was gonna be a good choice but it ended up being abit too sticky and not ideal. I ended up leaving half of it. Fruits were fruits and really, nothing special. Decent but not the greatest.

SERVICE: To call the service bad would be a compliment. I read reviews and many claimed that their service was top-notch but when I went, the service was below subpar. When I arrived, I asked for a table for 2 and they told me to wait while they brought the menu over. It took them 5 minutes and I was the ONLY customer. Then when I went to order, I asked about whether it’s a good idea to add xtra granola and the server acted as if I offended him and his 8 ancestors. I felt pretty turned off by the service.

AMBIENCE: Now here’s my other area of criticism. I’m not one to be nitpick-y about my cafe ambience. So long as it’s comfortable or decent, I’m on board. However, I now understand why it’s called a SHACK. Maybe some people like the aesthetic but it was slightly squishy and claustrophobic for me and bcs the inside was just 2 rows of bar tables, I sat outside and idk about you but having trash trucks drive past me and not being able to hear my friend talk isn’t my ideal brunch setting.

Honestly, I wanted to love vegan shack. I was dying to come here for the longest time and I feel slightly heartbroken that I left Vegan Shack feeling like all my hopes for this cafe was crushed. I probably wouldn’t return but at least I tried it.

I finally got around to visiting the Vegan Shack in Richmond yesterday & we ordered quite a spread. The interior was super cute, and the staff were very bright and fun. We ordered the apple spice pancakes, loaded nachos, magic mushies toastie & almond butter strawberry toastie. My favourite were the pancakes by far and I thoroughly enjoyed the loaded nachos & magic mushies toastie. All in all it was a nice place for brunch, the pricing was reasonable and the location is ideal. Would definitely recommend the pancakes, they were great!

I have no words for this vegan paradise.

I’ve tried some of their smoothie bowls and vegan burgers before they even had a cafe (at the time they had a van and went to some events and festivals - they were known as rawbeet!) and they team behind this wonderful place is not only beautiful on the outside but definitely on the inside. They have the hearts of a lion and ever time I visit them they are insanely kind and generous that makes me explode of happiness.

I’ve tried two years ago at a festival one of their burgers with a charcoal bun and even tho I cannot recall exactly how it was, my memories of the meal are that it was definitely delicious and that It made me craved not only for more but I regretting that I didn’t get another one 😂

I also tried their snickers bowl and if this isn’t the most healthy and at the same time massive indulgence that I’ve had in a single bowl it’s definitely one of the top ones. Asking for extra icecream and for extra peanut butter was definitely... well, extra 😂 I would definitely say that not every faint heart would be able to finish this bowl as they would find it too sweet but I definitely enjoyed every spoonful.

More recently I have visited them and had a special variation of their acai bowl that Jansen Andre, one of the people behind this place made for me. I am not entirely sure what was inside the blend that he created but from the moment he said peanut butter, acai and icecream I knew I was in very good hands 😂 it was a delicious bowl. My friend that went with me asked for the berries and creme bowl and it was according to him one of the best things he ever had in his life.

They also have in the store the delicious and massive burgers (which I’m very keen to try ALL of them), sandwiches with all the colours of the rainbow that they usual stack, making it look massively tempting, and cheesy melting toasts that make everyone drool.
On the sweet side of life, the pancakes and crepes are a blast. The last time I visited them we asked for the the vegan Nutella pancakes and again an acai bowl with extra icecream, peanut butter and Nutella and daaaaaamn - these guys nail it every time.

I would give 6 stars if I could. This place has come such a long way and has grown from its own merit, with a lot of hard work and love. True love for what they do.

That shows and makes people want to visit them not only for the food but also for the happiness and positivity that is highly contagious. I am actually grateful for one thing here - the fact that I don’t live just next to them. Why? Because otherwise I would be in serious trouble 💸😂

I absolutely LOVE vegan shack. I’ve tried a few of their dishes, including the Big Vegan, some of the toasties, and the pancakes!

All the food is so fresh, tasty and beautifully presented! Service is amazing and the vibes are on point. Definitely a great place for a coffee, snack, breakfast or lunch.
The Beauty In Living
Overall my short experience at the Vegan Shack was delightful. I got the Bazil Smash sandwich with gluten free bread to takeaway. It was phenomenal!! The combination of pesto, tomato and smoked mozzarella (vegan of course) was incredible and the gluten bread was delicious when toasted. The size of the sandwich was decent for the price paid which was $15 including extra for gluten bread. It was perfect for a light lunch meal. The service was great with the staff being very kind and helpful and the environment in this cafe is welcoming and cosy. I am very excited to go back and try the breakfast menu.

Instagram: @thebeautyinliving

Had their Bunnings’ Dawg which tastes better than bunnings snag :p and tried the latte with their house made almond milk. Want to come back for the toastie.

The Vegan Shack is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Melbourne! Super happy vibes and the best food 😄 Love the Berry Smoothie, the Big Vegan Brekkie and the Asian Persuasion salad bowl! Presentation and taste is always on point 👌🏼

Excellent sandwiches, great smoothies and wonderful coffee! What more could you ask for? well, possibly a bigger restaurant so there was more space, but that's about it. The staff is lovely and this is for sure one of my FAVE vegan spots in the city :) Definitely recommend trying out the reuben, but to be honest I don't think you could possibly go wrong ordering from this place.

Very friendly staff who made our experience personal. The food was delicious and so fresh, I felt amazingly nourished afterwards and pricing was great! Will definitely be back.

Came here to check out the vegan food in Richmond with my vegan friend and it was so worth it! Amazing burger and awesome friendly staff! I highly recommend the jackie chan burger

Visited Melbourne a few months ago and was recommended this vegan place in East Richmond. A cool, warm ambiance with friendly guys. Easily a 2 minute walk from the station. The staff were nice and friendly. The food was also just amazing. I had the pancakes and the snickers smoothie, and my friend had the grilled cheese with bakon and coffee. We both enjoyed our meals so much! They were delicious. Vegan food is good. Hoping to come back here the next time I’m in Melbourne.
Pauly
Yummy & delicious! Perfect medley of flavours. Even went and had the beetroot burger straight after and wagon wheel to taste even more deliciousness. An epic place perfect for vegans and even non vegans like myself.

Came here with friends and shared My mate Reuben and the Chickpea tuna sandwich.

They both tasted great and we were amazed and how creative and how well the flavours all worked.

The place has limited seating so I would recommend this place for takeaway as its not really a place sitting in a chatting with friends.

The coffee was average but expected.
The staff are both friendly and super helpful.

We had a good experience here. A good healthy addition to Swan street.

Saturday's ltasty lunch of Magic Mushies and today"s colourful work of art, Da Big Vegan Breaky were seasoned with just the right amount of TLC.. The good folks at The Vegan Shack certainly know what they're about.✔️👍🤗🙏🥑🍒🍅🍎🍇🥞🥜🥦 (And when on to a good thing, it"s not a bad idea to stick to it. I even had apple crumble during one of my now numerous visits...)

Love love love this new addition to Swan street! Great vibes, lovely staff (so nice that it is a mother and son team!) and the food was amazing. A few more non-sandwich options on weekdays might be a nice extra, but not a big deal. Will definitely come back!
Emma Louise
This place is my Saturday morning vegan fix 🌱 the staff are amazing humans and the food is so creative and out of this world!
They bring a real community vibe into Richmond!
Defiantly worth a frequent visit ✌️

Came here today with my friend. I’ve got BIG BREAKFAST and it’s actually my first time having this after since I went vegan 🌱 so delicious 🤤

My friend has her Snittyyyyy sandwich 🥪 was good too but she couldn’t finish it 😂 probably because of the sauce has been put too much soooo but anyway they are so tastyyyyyy 💕
Miss Laura
Ordered a mushroom sandwich and a schnitzel sandwich with Bnw. Absolutely faultless delicious vegan food. The sandwiches are made with care and passion. I love that there is seating too. The decor is beautiful as is the green coffee machine. I will definitely be back! The service was excellent too. The sandwiches are the same price as smith and deli but seem bigger and therefore better value in my opinion.
Fike
Another vegan cafe thats worth to try. The service is amazing! I had the Bali Vibes Toasty and mork chocolate; my friend had the Buddha Bowl and Soy Latte and they were good. Would love to come back to try their sweet treats! They look so yummy but we were too full 😊
Mia
Overpriced and underwhelming food. The tofu schnitzel was dry and bland, and the muffin was tiny and drowning in beetroot relish. We went here because the Instagram photos made the food look massive but they were just normal sandwiches I can make at home. Friendly staff though with great enthusiasm.
Georgia Fergusson
Love this place!! The food is soo delicious, a really chill vibe and the staff are so kind and friendly 😀 I definitely recommend, I want to have lunch there everyday haha!
Kellarnie Edwards
Food was amazing!! Staff were so friendly, highly recommend. We had the Magic Mushie toastie and Mexican Nacho burger, both were so delicious 😋 We will be back!!!

I waited for a month before I finally went here. It was worth the wait.
The coffee was perfect!
The waffles were outstanding!!! I have never had better vegan waffles in my life!!The team there were so friendly and welcoming.
I cant wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Also give their instagram a follow, always hilarious hijinx happening.

I’ve been DYING for this place to open for ages and it finally has! Being a huge fan back when they had their food trucks in events such Preston food truck festival is so cool to see how much they’ve come. Especially since it’s a family run business. Was obsessed with their famous burgers and donuts! And my super high expectations were certainly met! Their menu is AMAZING, something for everyone!
My personal fav is the Schnitty sandwich literally tasted too good to be true! And their smoothie bowl was a dream! Can’t wait to hear back and try some of their other delicious looking food!
Iris Myandowski
I'm a huge fan of a fancy vegan sandwich but I wasn't 100% for this dry sandwich, which disappointed me greatly because instagram had made me look forward to it so. Maybe other options are better?
Edit: other options really aren't better. Looks 10, taste gag, no.
Callum
First visit to Vegan Shack. Friendly people here who greeted us warmly and kept the atmosphere lively and welcoming. We tried 3 sandwiches, the Snitty (Schnitzel had great texture), Bali Vibes (good satay and capsicum/pepper flavors), and the Reuben(Tempeh w mustard flavor and charcoal bread). All sandwiches had great flavor combinations with the option to add ingredients if you wish, and the wait on the sandwiches did not feel longer than a handful of minutes. Sandwiches/portions are slightly more filling than they appear, which is good, and were not terribly messy to consume (sandwiches were still in 1 piece upon my final chomps). An almond latte hit the spot. A good selection of plant based and V-friendly options (including desserts & treats) are a significant bonus for this establishment, as are the passionate and lovely faces behind the counter. Excited to see how this shop will grow in the future!

Wow and Wow! Our tastebuds were dancing around with so many delicious sandwiches. We shared the Charcoal Rueben and Tina Tuna Melting followed by Ulawatu smoothie. (we had to take the remainder away as we were bursting) You could taste the love they put into their sandwiches. Great vibes, greater sandwiches and awesomeness all round!
Delicious Doris
Super friendly place and great to have a fully plant based sandwich and dessert place in Richmond. We had the Bali and the Schnitzel. Bali sandwich was flavorsome. Compared to the schnitzel where the schnitzel itself was a bit bland. The bread was great. Friend has the muffin which she said was disappointing. Pricing is a bit too high for what is offered. Compared to sandwiches at Smith & Deli, they are approximately 25% higher, for a smaller sandwich.
Quince And Cheese
Finally visited Vegan Shack after following them on Insta for ages. They were closing early to attend a vegan event but were happy to accommodate me and my partner anyway. They even whipped him up a turmeric cacao coconut latte even though they had shut down the coffee machine. We tried the Reuben and the (gf) Bali Vibes. I preferred the former but would gladly devour either again. I cannot wait to go back and try more!
Veganaut
The food is great and fresh. I think Melbourne has been waiting for a sandwich joint like this! I was there the day after it opened and I can’t wait to go back! Friendly staff and a great menu!! Go get your coffee now.

Great little spot. Awesome team / fresh food / all vegan with amazing smoothies to match. No gimmicks here. Just good honest plant based food 🙌
