Review Ms Frankie - Richmond

Mary Yang (maryang)
Went with a group of 10 and we were so well fed from their set menu of $65pp. Very worth it and the pasta was amazing! Bit of a wait inbetween entrees and main but overlooked that as the wait staff were fantastic. Will be visiting again.

Now THATS a serving šŸ˜‚šŸ‘šŸ½ You definitely wonā€™t leave here hungry with these portions. Nor will you leave dissapointed - we both loved our dishes! The deep fried olives and cheese were the perfect side along with the simple offering of complimentary bread for our pastas. Service was at its best, very honest, friendly and helpful with dietary requirements. They have changed their menu since we have visited, so these dishes are no longer available. However I have no doubt you will find options just as good!

Wow - This coffee I just ordered is by far one of the best coffees Iā€™ve had in Melbourne. Coffee is smooth, and they are lactose free /vegan friendly when it comes to milks friendly and knowledgeable from waitress. Will come back next time for a meal!

Loved this place. The meal was beautiful and the tiramisu was sensational. Great service. We will be back.

Great cocktails and cocktail list. Waitress was really lovely. The pasta was cooked perfectly however the sauces/ entrees were a little underwhelming

Been to Ms Frankie several times and last night we tried the new Carlton venue for my birthday. The ambiance is stunning at Ms Frankie Cremorne, and although Carlton is different in style, it also has a great ambiance, with a nod here and there to nonna's house, from the wallpaper to the rosary beads, and it's very chic as well. The food was sensational as always. One of the owners, Wani, was front of house last night and she runs a smooth operation, always professional, in control and always friendly. The antipasto dishes are delicious, we had the potato croquets, and the arancini. Some of the best we have eaten. I had the spaghetti marinara. In an instant I was taken back to Italy. Homemade pasta and a delicious flavour. My husband had the mixed grilled fish - another winner. My daughter basically inhaled her gnocchi (she says they're the best she's had here and in Italy). The desserts are definitely worth fitting into your already full tummy. My GOD those pistacchio and nutella donuts are sensational. All I can say, is thank goodness, Ms Frankie is in Carlton, breathing life and all things Italian back into Lygon street and Carlton. It's what we've all been crying out for. This block / corner of Carlton is coming back to it's Italian roots. Thank you Mel and Wani (and Enza for all the inspiration). Grazie

Terrible service. They told us when we went to pay they would only accept cash because their system went down. We understand, however, upon getting cash, we were asked to sit back down whilst they organised themselves and other tables. We ended up buying more drinks and missed our train and subsequent Uber home. They offered no effort to help out, barely an apology and treated it like any average night. Poor night all round, would have appreciated more understanding from the staff that were working.

Came here from a friend's recommendation. Ordered two pastas - paccheri wagyu beef ragu and fettuccine duck. The paccheri was perfectly cooked but the beef ragu sauce was nothing special. The duck on the other hand - the fettuccini was over cooked, the duck sauce was watery and the whole dish was very salty. For dishes over $35, it was a very disappointing experience.

It was ok.. not as good as we were expecting. Went with a group of friends, our entree order was wrong, but the wait staff were helpful in bringing out the missed food quickly. Unfortunately our mains were all luke warm to cold - there were 7 of us. The anchovy spaghetti wasnā€™t done very traditionally- there were a few anchovies on the top, not cooked and melted through the pasta. The place has nice decor and great service. The wine list was well put together but we found it didnā€™t live up to the hype food wise.

Excellent food , vibe, menu and atmosphere. This place is a labour of love . The service is outstanding . The food is incredible and never fails to deliver flavour and variety. Itā€™s a donā€™t miss . Highly recommend

Wine on tap is awesome, gnocchi was silky and smooth - in and around my mouth - and probably the best Iā€™ve had in my life. The butter and sage sauce on the tortellini is delectable and worth cleaning up with the fresh bread afterward. Service was friendly and efficient, we were easily able to finish three courses within the set two hour booking time without feeling rushed. Great atmosphere, modern and warm.

I've followed the progress on whoismsfrankie and cannot believe the transformation from the former warehouse that it was. I was beyond impressed with the service, ambience, food and drinks. Each dish oozes passion & love and you can pull up a stool and watch your pasta being rolled before your very eyes. It's hard to pick a favourite because everything is amazing but I cannot recommend more highly the truffle & porcini gnocchi and the spaghetti marinara- paired with one of the amazing TAP wines, it doesn't get much better than that! Oh wait it does... the cannoli are to die for! This new kid on the block is fast becoming one of the best pasta bars in Melbourne #WillBeBackInAProsecco

Absolutely loved the food and wine, the prosciutto just melted in your mouth and the pasta dishes were to die for! Ambiance and look of the restaurant added to the fine dinning.

5 star service, 5 star food in a 5star establishment. We were a big group that left at the end of the night impressed, such a great place for events, warm and inviting!! Definitely coming back here again.

Best place for lunch on a Summer's day - or any day for that matter. Speedy service that makes you feel like one of the family, absolutely beautiful food, and an endearing setting. I'll be back more than once.

Had the absolute pleasure of sampling Ms Frankie's brand new Menu last night. Incredible Authentic Italian Hearty Food in an amazing setting. Melbournians, add this to the top of your list for Italian cuisine this summer! ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

I just got home from my first visit to Ms. Frankie and Iā€™m still thinking about the incredible porcini and truffle gnocchi ļæ½ The Aperol spritz was the cherry on the cake. Definitely the place to go for great food, vibes and gorgeous layout. Will be returning soon!

Amazing service, amazing food! Itā€™s a big call, but I would happily say itā€™s the best meal Iā€™ve ever had!

I'm biased as I know the girls but I have inhaled the entire menu multiple times. Amazing food, amazing venue, amazing heart in this business. Recommend to everyone!

I absolutely loved my visit to Ms Frankie and was raving about the experience for awhile afterwards.
A friend and I got the Sicilian Street Food Board to share as entree which was a great way to sample a range of different items.
For my main I couldnā€™t go past the Rigatoni Oxtail Ragu - it was AMAZING. A rich dish, full of flavour and the pasta was cooked beautifully. It all melted in my mouth.
For dessert we got cannoli to take home. I am a huge fan of traditional Italian cannoli and this did not disappoint.

The venue itself was nice and cosy with a great vibe. Staff were friendly and helpful when asked questions.
I would definitely recommend to family & friends and look forward to visiting again!

The food here is delicious - a real flavoursome treat for your tastebuds! The fresh pasta melts in your mouth and the tiramisu is sensationally creamy.

The staff were friendly but getting service was a little hard; however, once we were served the food and drinks came out fast.

The dark setting and dim lighting make this restaurant perfect for a really cute date night.

What a lovely gem. Move aside Tipo 00, this is my new favourite. After a long drive round the small streets we finally found parking and it was well worth it. There is no question this place oozes coolness. The share platter at the start was abundant and interesting. I learnt what Pane Panella actually was and how it was meant to be eaten. The waiter was very eager to explain certain dishes which we werenā€™t accustomed to. The rigatoni oxtail Ragu was sensational! Burst of gelatinous flavour. Highly recommended. Iā€™m not usually a fan of gnocchi but this one was light and fluffy. The beef Ragu was packed full of flavour. The gnocchetti was also a nice surprise and a first first for us.
Steph
Food was good, amazing Italian food. I absolutely loved gnocchi. Tho a lil bit on the small serving size. The waiter was very helpful in explaining to us what each dish was šŸ

One thing I disliked is that we were not consented if we wanted plain water or sparking water šŸø Plus we were not aware that we were charged a price of around $5-7 for a whole bottle šŸ¾ & we requested for refill and hence got charged again šŸ˜”

šŸ—“ Visited in November 2018

So happy to have found this place, absolutely loved all the food from start to finish. Antipasto board was great, all cuts of meat so fresh. Both pasta dishes were absolutely beautiful especially the gnocchi ragu, meat was so tender and the sauce was perfect, amazing homemade flavours. Cannoli were the best I have had by far. Ricotta filling was the perfect amount of sweetness and so fresh and the shell was light and crunchy, my parter is from Italy and agreed and he is very hard to please !! Canā€™t wait to return

Pasta was excellent, no complaints. Decor was a bit cold for my liking. Service was ok. Sharing plate entre was ordered as veg and was all very samey, not bad just not interesting. Pasta was definitely worth tasting. Wine was quite expensive for cheapest glasses but great tasting.

Ms Frankie is such a wonderful restaurant. The Italian vibes from the first step inside is amazing, the staff are so friendly and flexible, and the food is tasty and beautiful.... especially their arancini and home made Passata with their pasta!!! Thank you Ms Frankie xx
Queen Of Food
While the food had great flavour, Iā€™m giving a lower score because the service was too slow and not very attentive. It could be much better.

My partner and I had a lovely Saturday night dinner at Ms Frankie. Simple pasta dishes with delicious flavour. Would definitely recommend the tiramisu for dessert!
A very cool place to have an excellent Italian dinner. The place is very inviting and it was fully booked the night we were there. The food was tasty and it was a great night out. The service was very good and happy to help with any questions.

My Key Three Pointers
* Dedicated Italian pasta bar, definitely no Pellegrini.
* Fit out was stunning
* Was excited but did not leave with the same excitement.

If pasta is not your thing then not sure if you should bother. If pasta is your thing still not sure if you should bother. Started the night with some starters, calamari, Arancini balls, Burrata Mozzarella, fries with Parmesan & Truffle. It was a nice start and we were waiting for the pasta to take it up a notch and blow us away.

They have a dedicated glass enclosed pasta room weā€™re all the magic apparently occurs. After having tasted my pasta I did not feel convinced and felt this room was just a trophy room, great to look at. The discussion around the table was how could the pasta be so bad, was it fresh or store purchased. My gnocchi felt so dense, not fluffy and tasted very starchy. The ragu sauce was acidic and the meat chewy definitely not melting soft. In my opinion the ragu had not been cooked long enough and very salty. I required one large bottle of sparkling water to myself. No one really enjoyed what they selected and some of us did not finish what was on the plate.

NOT FEELING LIKE PASTA like the menu specifies, to bad because their only non pasta option Which is fish, was not available at 8pm. The service was bad, not attentive, constantly having to ask for service. Every time we ordered a drink we were building a glass collection. We had empty glasses that never were cleared. We finished our mains and 1 hour later a staff member asked if we wanted dessert. Thatā€™s a long period of time to ask customers if they would like to see a dessert menu. We opted for a plate of doughnuts to share as we were not convinced after mains that it would be any good. This was probably the highlight and tasted nice.

What I was feeling was the beautiful decor. Terrazzo stone floors, white marble tables, velvet blue lounge, fire place and a great looking bar. The vibe was good and perfect to catch up with friends but maybe they should ditch the food and stick to a bar that serves antipasto varieties.

Food was great and was quite busy yet still managed to get out food quickly. Quick walk from Richmond station and was happily surprised by the bill at the end, very reasonable for the quality of food.

Wow wow wow! Went to ms Frankie over the weekend and absolutely loved it. Their wine list is to die for and the food is amazing! So many yummy choices so we all ordered a pasta each and shared. The staff are so lovely and love the venue. Only thing I didnā€™t rate as much would be some of the tables are too close to each other but didnā€™t mind too much just was hard to get in and out of my seat. Well done guys, def recommend and will be coming back soon!

Great customer service on top of delicious food, porcini gnoochi was so good, needed a little salt but overall very tasty. The burrata board with olives was equally pleasurable so good we had two serving of house bread. Italian wine and rose to finish off this perfect meal

The place was fully booked, we came at peak hour but the staff found a way to seat us quickly. We are so lucky because we just had the best pasta, couldn't be happier!

Went here on Friday night with Vinh and we absolutely loved it! We had really great attentive service even though the restaurant was busy, I honestly donā€™t understand the bad reviews regarding the service. We ordered the prosciutto which came with a creamy mozzarella that melted in your mouth it was amazing !! We also ordered a gnocchi and spaghetti dish both were equally good and the sauce tasted just like Nonnaā€™s!! I will definitely be back :)

Came here with a friend in the afternoon for a coffee. Decided weā€™d also order a serving of fries as we werenā€™t that hungry, and upon hearing that we werenā€™t ordering any ā€œrealā€ food, our waitress rolled her eyes and snatched the menus away from us after taking our order. When she dropped our food and coffee at our table, she didnā€™t say a word to our ā€œthank youā€™sā€ and stormed off again. Not sure if we offended her by not ordering a proper meal? Haha. We didnā€™t even attempt to split the bill in case sheā€™d get angrier...pretty unpleasant.
The fries are great, in any case, and coffees are good too. Just not great service.

Came here for dinner the other night and left feeling so disappointed. Thought I would try this place out since Iā€™ve seen it trending on instagram. The menu is quite small, a lot of the entrees/sides are fried and flavourless. We ordered olives and they came out cold, would taste a lot nicer if they were warm . The pastas were the most disappointing bit. Itā€™s a pasta bar, itā€™s basically the entire menu, but out of the 5 different pastas that were ordered there was probably 1 which was okay , the gnocchi ragu and even that was kind of flavourless. Desserts, were ok. We got stuck at the table closest to the door, so basically froze our pants off every time the door opened. It just really wasnā€™t a pleasant dining experience.
Sarah
The food was up there and definitely has potential to hit the 5* score. What they lack in service (a bit scattered) they make up for with passion for their food. Looking forward to trying more of the menu!

Absolutely love Ms. Frankie - amazing food in a beautiful setting, with attentive service. Have been here quite a few times, and it's now my go-to place for pasta when in the city. Have tried almost all of the pastas and cannot fault them - soooo amazingly good!! Arancini are also a highlight!
Good Food Good Mood
Having seen Ms Frankie explode all over Instagram I suggested it for a catch up with friends. A pasta bar in Richmond what could go wrong? Upon entry I was absolutely loving the fit out. The obligatory trending neon sign, marble table tops and gold cutlery revealed a truly modern space. I also adored the bench style seating which allowed you to observe the pasta making behind the glass panelling. Great care has been taken with the concept but they couldnā€™t necessarily back it up.
We were placed on a makeshift cramped table and asked to be seated on a larger one. As a result we were informed it was only a 2 hour sitting which was completely fine, but there was no need for them to make us feel rushed at every stage of the evening.
Our entree came out and we had only ordered fries. Sadly their published menu on Zomato is now out of date which I really loathe (particularly when you only just opened I would assume the menu is current) because we had our hearts set on the potato pizza to start which was no longer available. So chips it was with Parmesan and truffle except when I tasted them I could detect no hint of either. Turns out theyā€™d brought us plain ones so back they went.
For mains we tried several dishes. Each was quite intense in its flavour therefore I think their sharing pan option would be a good idea and possibly better portion wise also.
The gnocchi was well past the point of being perfectly cooked but I thoroughly enjoyed the flavours of the blue cheese and walnut one. I didnā€™t order this personally as I thought it would be too bold for me but it was actually quite subtle (too subtle for he who ordered it!). I had the pesto spaghetti which was definitely al dente but a little oily as an unbalanced pesto can sometimes be. The gnocchi ragu was also not a bad dish but certainly nothing special.
When we got the bill we found we were charged for a dessert we didnā€™t order which the waitress had a bit of attitude about as we were paying. It was actually due to a bit of a language barrier with another waitress who thought we had ordered dessert when we were actually just discussing the dessert options (which were fairly limited). Overall another one of those style over substance spots. We must be pretty superficial in Melbourne though as it was absolutely thriving but perhaps only until the initial hype dies down

Caught up with friends over pasta here tonight at Ms Frankie just a stones throw away from Richmond train station in Cremorne street. With marble table tops and a wall of glass on the pasta prep area this venue was quite stylish and I give the venue top score on creating a welcoming pleasant environment. We ordered drinks to start off myself having a beer and others opting for the refreshing Frankie Spritz.

I should point out here that the menu we were looking at on Zomato is different to their current menu and so some of the selection we wanted (potato focaccia) were no longer available. Additionally some of the items on their current menu were not available too (Pumpkin ravioli).

We ordered a serve of the main gnocchi beef Ragu to share as an entree. This was a nicely cooked and probably my favourite dish of the night. For main I shared the gnocchi Gorgonzola and the pesto spaghetti. The gnocchi in the Gorgonzola dish was a little over cooked for my liking and the Gorgonzola was there but not as strong as I would have liked. Was a good tasting dish but didnā€™t pack the punch I was hoping for. The pesto spaghetti dish on the other hand delivered strong flavour and the pasta was well cooked.

Others at the table were left with their second choice due to items being unavailable on the menu. Could have been a good idea to talk us through any gaps in the menu before leaving us to order. I think most people enjoyed their pasta but we all felt the service tended to try and push us at some pace into the next course and out the door.

There were a few language barriers with our waiting staff member who misunderstood some of our order and thought we had asked for a dessert item when in fact we were just discussing the options of dessert. Similarly we ordered truffle and Parmesan fries which originally came out as plain fries.

Overall I felt that Ms Frankie came up a little short on what I would be expecting from a venue that looks as good as it does with a menu that is priced at the level that it was.

Having blown up on IG, I made sure I ticked this restaurant off my list. First impressions were beautiful aesthetic. Very IG worthy!

My 4 guest and I ordered two Ms Frankie sour (amazing), a bottle of wine, cheese and Salami board,
gnocchi ragu (average 3/5),
spaghetti marinara (below average1/5 ),
tortellini (average 3/5)
and spaghetti clam pesto (below average1/5 ) .

Being that Ms Frankie was a pasta bar... it was astonishing to my friends and I that 3/4 pasta dishes were uncooked. How is this possible... how can you undercook pasta? What was worse was when we returned it and received uncooked pasta again.

The manager did compensate us with two small arancini balls which were average. Was not worth my troubles. Overall because of the slow service and negative experience, I will not be coming back.

A bit underwhelmed by my Ms Frankie experience. Iā€™d heard such fantastic things about the pasta here but it didnā€™t really match expectations. I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese and felt that it needed a lot more flavour. I also unfortunately found a hair in my pasta. I really like the concept of Ms Frankie though and my fellow diners really loves the gnocchi so I plan to go back and give it another chance.
The City Lane
Ms Frankie is an Italian restaurant in Cremorne, just around the corner from Richmond station, that focuses on quality pasta along with a few other Italian favourites.
The Truth About Food
We didnā€™t have a reservation however, the manager looked at the booking sheet and was able to seat us which was great. We ordered some cocktails which were great but took way too long for only three tables being there at the time. We ordered entrees and then ordered the matriciana pasta (that was supposed to come with bread but came out after weā€™d finished) to share with a fennel and blood orange salad. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly however, the sauce left a lot to be desired. It lacked seasoning and flavour, it was disappointingly bland! The salad came with three tiny pieces of blood orange and it also lacked seasoning and acidity! One of the waitresses came to clear the table and started taking our plates however, the salad was still there and hadnā€™t been eaten. We were then told that the manager ā€œforgotā€ that this table was booked so they asked us to leave, pretty poor customer service in my opinion considering we spent $300.

I donā€™t get the negative reviews šŸ¤”. This place is awesome!! Friendly staff, nice venue and food was incredible. We all enjoyed the freshly made pasta and Iā€™m already booking my next visit back šŸ¤—

One mussel in a seafood pasta is absolutely ridiculous and at $35 they are kidding themselves. Ordered beers which never came and pretty average which is a shame cause it has good potential.

My partner took me here for dinner tonight and we have left super impressed.
The fit out of the restaurant is so lovely and the artwork through the big glass windows looks amazing.
House Pinot Grigio was delish!
Now the food- oh my goodness!! We had a couple of entreā€™s which were great but the Mariana pasta was the winner for me, it was the best Iā€™ve ever eaten and the perfect size. My partner had the seafood special pasta with scampi and Morton bay bugs and it was just as good!
Iā€™m not one for desert so we shared the Nutella sundae, AMAZING!! I honestly regret sharing..
such a beautiful place and the staff just topped our night off.
Canā€™t wait to return, hopefully when we can watch the pasta being made through the big glass windows. Will definitely be recommending this to everyone!! Have not found an Italian restaurant Iā€™ve like as much as this.
Thanks guys!!
